Update your graphics card drivers.
Possibilities:
1. Defective X1900 due to component failure (not surprising considering the age).
2. Overheating X1900 GPU. Is the fan spinning?
3. Inadequate or failing power supply
I am re-downloading this game onto a new computer i have, whenever i start up the client it crashes without even surpassing 1% of the update. It downloads about 300 MBs then crashes and each time i start it over it seems as if the crashing window gets smaller. I just want this game to update already so i can play. Please if anyone could help let me know !

You have malware (toobar?) that’s crashing the game.
It would be a good idea to run a scan with Malwarebytes’ Antimalware (free), available here:
This game uses DirectX 9, so that will have no effect.
Sounds like you have the Nvidia 3D drivers installed. Try uninstalling them from the Control Panel.
Running Windows 10 here – no issues at all with GW2.
Your GPU-Z screen shows its only running in 8x mode. Is it installed in the PCI-E slot closest to the CPU? That’s generally the full speed x16 slot, though some manufacturers are making the x16 the 2nd PCI-E slot to give the GPU more room between the CPU heatsink+fan.
It’s because he’s running two GPUs in SLI, so the 8X is OK.

Dell typically uses the cheapest power supply they can (I doubt that it can actually even handle the 460 watts) and pre-built PC’s often come with power supplies that are barely up to task.
There’s a good chance the issue is your power supply if it simply can’t handle the power required of it.
AdAware is crashing the game. You should uninstall it or disable it from running at start up.

Hey Everyone,
So I keep getting atimagsys crashes, the most recent one being video_tdr_failure. But unfortunately have had other types of crashes with this card. It’s a brand new computer and the card doesn’t fail unless I am playing gw2. I have researched forums and although there are many possible solutions nothing seems to work.
Here are the specs.
i7 4760
16gb ddr3 ram
2 tb hd
amd radeon r9 270 2gb
win 8.1So long and short what GPUs have you had success with that have more stable drivers or have worked with gw2?
Thanks!
What power supply do you have?
Make sure your CPU isn’t overheating or overclocked.
Check your CPU/GPU temperatures.
Also, I’m not sure why you (or anyone) would use ‘subsample’ AND High-res character textures at the same time.

Looks like the “My Privacy Tools SecureNet Service” is crashing the game. You may need to uninstall it or disable it from running at start up.
Well, there’s something that may help you, depending on the manufacturer of your sound card (if it’s onboard).
I happen to have Conexant audio on my motherboard and I’ve found the drivers to be garbage (it’s the same on my laptop). With the Conexant drivers installed, I occasionally had strange audio issues in GW2 (sound drops our for several seconds, etc.).
My final solution was to uninstall the Conexant audio drivers and let Windows 7 use the Windows drivers instead. Everything works fine now and I never have sound issues with any program or game.
So; if you happen to have Conexant audio – you could try uninstalling the Conexant drivers and software.
Good luck.
I use Ccleaner all the time and have never had this issue.
There is no subscription fee for Windows 10.
I have a dual-boot setup using Windows 7 and Linux Mint. I haven’t tried running Guild Wars 2 yet on Linux, but I suspect it will work without too much trouble. I don’t see A-net providing any support for Linux in the future.
Keep in mind that Wine is actually like a virtual machine, so games may require a bit more power to get decent performance.
You may find some useful information here:
AdAware is causing the crash:
Module: LavasoftTcpService.dll <—- module causing the crash
I recommend that you uninstall it or disable it from running at startup.
I transferred servers a while back using gems. I think it was 1600 gems, but I don’t remember for sure.
My main problem now is having no display
Edit: monitor is getting display. I had to use a DVI port on my graphics card. Weird that none of my MOBO ports would work?
I’m pretty sure that the HDMI port won’t work without drivers, which means you won’t get a picture until Windows boots.
Re-seat your GPU. Also, make sure it’s in a PCIe 16 slot (the one closest to the CPU).
a) We need the tracert from your PC to the GW2 servers.
b) The only solution (other than network errors on your end) would be to contact 1) your ISP and 2) the administrator of the failing network node(s). I cannot fix this. Anet cannot fix this. It isn’t a problem with the game servers and if it was, Anet would know before anyone here – they monitor their servers.
c) I have no way of knowing what [internet] network nodes or ISPs could be having problems at any given time.
Try the game without the GPU overclock.
Phatt Dude.7538 -
Sorry, but I find your suspicions ludicrous. You, as a former tech support person, should know that sometimes various nodes on the internet have problems and that there is nothing the end user or A-net can do to fix them.
The problem lies with that particular peer network, which is why we often ask for Tracerts in order to pinpoint the failing node.
That looks normal to me.
Is the date and time correct on your relative’s computer?
My advice is to not upgrade an OS until it has been out for a year.
But, to each his/her own.
Was the power supply replaced?
“This looks like some software bug in GW2 :/”
Nope. Even if GW2 used 100% of your GPU’s resources and pegged the processor at 100% – it still shouldn’t overheat. Personally, I would replace the thermal grease on your graphics card processor.
You’re Ignoring the fact they’ve stated other games run the GPU at cool. Guild wars should not be using more GPU resources than Witcher on Ultra as stated by the OP. I’m not assuming you said this, but If the processor maxes out, the GPU will not take the rest of the load, they both have individual properties, while the CPU focuses on rendering files while the GPU processes its memory to display graphics.
No, I’m simply stating how the hardware is designed to operate. If an engineer designs a video card that cannot sustain 100% load conditions for extended usage without overheating, that engineer should lose his job. It would bad design.
I’m not stating anything about the load that GW2 places on your GPU (which will vary depending on your system) – because it is irrelevant when it comes to temperature.
The fact is, that if your GPU is overheating under any software conditions; either the hardware has a defect or it was improperly designed in the first place.
It really is that simple.

Looks like Ad-aware is crashing the game. I recommend uninstalling it or disabling it from running at start-up.
“I’m in the same boat. I watched my GPU temps climb to overheating once I turned on GW2. After the patch today my CPU started going this while playing GW2. GPU temps climb to red.
What did they change?"
If you’re overheating, it’s a hardware issue. You should be able to run your CPU with all cores maxed to 100% for hours without overheating, with your GPU running at 100% usage at the same time.
If you aren’t able to do that, there’s a problem with the cooling system.
Overheating is always a hardware problem.
If you have mouse pointer trails enabled – disable them.
Your high ping starts at:
cdnetworks-gw.ip4.gtt.net
That is where the problem is and it occurs before A-net’s servers. There is nothing A-net can do to fix this.
Unacceptable Performance GW2 needs optimized!

OK, I tried it with the frame limiter off with my normal settings and got 83 FPS where you were. With your settings I got 68 FPS.
So yeah, I say to try dropping your graphics settings a bit and overclocking your CPU.

I would say to drop your graphics settings a little bit; although I do think that you should be getting FPS that’s a least on par with my GTX460 (10% overclock).
The first picture below, I turned up my settings at the same place you were and am getting 63 FPS (my CPU is an i5-3330 @ 3Ghz) with vsync off.
In the second picture, I switched to my normal graphics settings, which made no difference in FPS at that location (but would in a crowd). I turned vsync back on – I hate screen tearing.
Edited to add: I forgot to try it with the frame limiter off -doh.
Even if you have DirectX 11, you must install DirectX9 because it is separate.
It is here:

The solution is really easy. I’m sure you can figure it out.
I suspect that he is asking too much of his CPU and network card (due to changes in the game or the way Netflix streams video). He may also simply be running out of bandwidth, which SirSquishy’s question will reveal.
If he can stream video on another device and play the game on his PC without issue; that rules out the bandwidth problem. If he only has issues doing both on the same PC, it’s likely that the CPU/NIC can’t keep up with the demand.
I’m not saying he shouldn’t seek a solution, although I was being a bit facetious with my first post. I’m saying that this may not have a solution due to the current state of how the game works and how Netflix works.
I think that’s a fair assessment of the issue here.
It’s the internet, sometimes internet nodes (routers) have issues. If you are streaming in HD, you are creating a whole lot of work for your NIC (network card). Your CPU has to process all of that AND the video you’re streaming.
It’s also possible you have malware or trojans on your system adding to the bandwidth utilization. Did you even check for malware? Have you even tried disabling unneeded start-up programs that may be using even more bandwidth? Have you checked with your ISP to see if they are having issues?
The point is, there are a whole lot of things that can be causing issues. I’m really not sure why you would want to stream movies while playing this game though, when, at best, it may cause lag or disconnects. I have noticed this while playing GW2 and downloading files at the same time. The game is a bit laggy when I do that, but it works.
This really seems pretty normal to me considering the fact that you are streaming video at the same time. What has changed? The game has changed and may be requiring the CPU to process more network data. Netflix may have changed how they stream videos.
Personally, I would not try and stream video at the same time as playing an online game because I’m aware of the issues it can cause. There are probably things out of your control that have changed. You may not be able to resolve this. That’s why I said what I said.
Your GPU is running at 1X instead of 16X.
Try removing and re-seating it (do this a couple of times).
Solution:
Don’t stream Netflix while playing the game.
Yeah – I think the HDD in my laptop may be having problems (Toshiba). It has started the random beeping and occasional “click” sound, although Defraggler and Windows show that the drive is healthy.
I’m not too concerned because it was a used HDD to begin with and I don’t play GW2 on it. My “fix” was to turn off the PC speaker – for now. Guess I’ll replace the drive when it fails. I won’t lose anything because I have good backups.
Frequent Black Screen and Crashes Only in GW2

Your video card is defective – that’s the only cause for graphics artifacts. It’s definitely a hardware issue (well, it could be a power supply problem as well, but that doesn’t usually cause artifacts – it just crashes).
Nope, no issues here. It’s probably a bad internet node router.
Maybe your overlay is causing problems with the game. Try GW2 without the overlay.
The downloaded components will be replacing files. After it is finished replacing those files, your total game folder size will be approximately 20 Gig.
Don’t overclock if it makes your system unstable.
By definition, overclocking is running components at specifications they are not designed to run at. Sure, it often works, but it may result in worse performance and/or crashes.
Alienware tends to be overpriced. I would recommend building a system as sirsquishy.8531 said.
