New pets don’t work…

Not much of anything on this “new” traitline “works” since healing wasn’t the direction that Ranger needed to go to make us a viable and welcome team member.

We will still be shunned.

We will still not bring anything “better” to the table – and I have been told that so much even after this beta weekend that true or not, the players believe it is true so I will come to pass regardless of the “intent” of the new traits.

What a waste.

Rangers are very good for WvW. they have good range burst. Also their pets taunt for shut down CC in zerg vs zerg.

Also they have nice traps for conditions. Warhorn is great support for zerg.

No idea what you talking. Cant help if your team’s leadership lack innovation.

With all the new changes, again, Rangers are “not doing it better” on at least one skill or needed mechanic that others don’t bring more of.

Rangers still have not been given the respect that they had in the very first Beta where Rangers were as powerful as any other character and people ran from them.

Sorry, Rangers getting Druid, seeing Druid in action against more than one person, I can say we aren’t getting what we asked for and Rangers still will not be honored enough to be “wanted” in parties in dungeons, fractals OR where needed most, WvW.

"Please don't fix the Bristleback" campaign!

So, the Bristleback is bugged when overgrown with Signet of the Wild. It grows to Godzilla proportions, which is hilarious, and looks absolutely epic.

Let’s hear the voices to please please please not fixing this, let us keep our Champion Siege Bristleback!

Come on rangers, let’s have your voices heard!

Now if Health in WvW would just match or surpass PvE we’d have a chance even in small units against bigger numbers…

Just look at a spider’s health in PvE, it makes one want to cry.

TS is a disaster for many – thumbing of noses at devs and anet’s abuse rules in general are being ignored by not being aware of, and in control of, voice communications.

Even console games which have much less memory but far more graphics can handle a voice stream, which is a very small ding on bandwidth – it’s just aonther sound so I’d like a switch turn off music or any sounds necessary to have voice capability.

Anet? Please, move MMOs forward where they should be.

Give us voice capability soon.

What's Wrong With Being A Healer?

In almost every game I can I play some character that at least has a way to heal allies. I usually favour honest to goodness healers if the game has them. I just find it satisfying to watch the tide of a fight turn as I give my team such a ridiculous advantage with the amount of effective health they have thanks to me. I also love the feeling (and the praise) I get when I punt someone out of danger and juuussst save them from what surely would have been their doom.

So please explain, why do so many people find it so much less satisfying bringing health bars up than they do tearing them down? As a healer main I just don’t get it. :/

In this game I suppose the merits of being a healer is that everybody else can spec far more offensively and use their blasts for might generation instead of healing. Having someone to heal the entire team lets everyone else focus on entirely on DPS. If healers turn out good, and needed, maybe that’d be the meta. One healer to allow everyone else to do their own thing.

Edit: It seems that my question isn’t coming through clearly. I’m not asking why people don’t like the Druid, or why people don’t go for healing in GW2 specifically. I want to know what it is about the healer playstyle that so many people don’t like in a lot of different games. When you say “I don’t like playing a healer” what don’t you like? Why isn’t it as fun as any other role to you personally? Hope this clears things up.

I suppose its all a matter of what you consider help. Verbally abusing the moderators on the very boards they moderate might be the problem.

As one who has been abused by moderators in email, I can well understand why someone would “go off” after working so darn hard while not seeing improvements but seeing additions that are just as problem ridden.

Any asura rangers out there?

I am so conflicted on race choice, on one side asura long bow animations and others rock and look allot more alive and less static but I do have mixed feelings on greatsword animations vs humanoids. However I cannot seem to get into the race including my character, they are egotistical and the fact rangers are connected to nature by theme.

Then on my sylvari the longbow animations are static and way less lively but the others look good.

How did some of you make sense having an asura ranger?

doing fractals lvl 50 (warr, guard, necro, two rangers). The whole run went very smoothly (swamp, cliffside, dredge) but my fellow ranger was expressing his surprise that things went so smoothly “consdering there are two rangers” (his words). Kept sucking up other players kitten that way a couple of times more. Had to bite my tongue to keep quiet. The thought never occurred to him that things might go smoothly just because there were two capable rangers in party. Some fellow rangers seem to be under the impression that they should be grateful to be accepted in a party. Have some pride, for god’s sake.

I agree, the same can be said for WvW and PvP – In PvE no one blinks twice when I am up and they are downed.

Ok guys, seems like someone is crying for a stealth counter. How about:
group up with/play an engineer (Lock On works wonder vs stealth)
group up with/play a ranger (revealed debuff available)
droping a anti stealth trap (ok you need some supplys for it)
or wait for HoT and
group up with/play a dragonhunter (revealed available on trap)
group up with/play a scrapper (reveal on elite)

or wait even more, dev’s already confirmed antistealth will be available to any class, engie was only the first who get it

PS: if this is not an option to you, how about playing a CC/condi havy build, most Condi-PU Mesmers have no access to stability and lack condition removal beside the torch trait. Know your oponent, and know how to exploit his weaknes is key in GW2

PPS: still not an option to you? treat him as a cele D/D ele, and call some friends to get rid of him. (The ones who know what they are doing, not the ones who faceroll to the floor)

Wait, did you say “group up”?

You are talking to many who are forced by bad game design to roam alone much of the time.

Many servers don’t have many on at the same time – many are alone on maps.

So your “group up” strategy may work during busy times and on busy servers, but it won’t work on even a T1 server if no one is there.

I read a lot of cr*p on this forum about people arguing that conditions aren’t too powerful and so on. And some of them do make some good points, i.e some players take next to no condi removal then moan, which is fair enough, but I’m not a player who has ever followed the meta, I craft my own builds, to do 3 of the following, removal conditions well, negate power damage if possible, and also deal enough damage to win fights. I currently play thief, so when I saw all these conditions like confusion and burning getting huge buffs, I knew I needed to compensate for that, so I did. My build can and does removal a lot of conditions, and against the none stealth condi classes, (engi, necro, sometimes ranger) as long as I play to my capabilities I can win the fight. But you put me against a class with stealth (mesmer and thief for example) there is literally nothing I can do to win, believe me, I’ve looked at in every single way of going about the fight, and it’s literally impossible to win.

I’m not a person to just shout out accusations toward a class without doing some research however, so I made myself a condition mesmer yesterday, and found someone who would be willing to fight me in OS… I found a Staff ele, it was a regular 1v1 but with a twist, I used my nose to press the skills on my keyboard, that’s right my nose. For the majority of the fight I did nothing but press 2 and 3, I think I pressed 4 once on scepter/torch and I won the fight; without even going below 50% health, I didn’t dodge once, I didn’t use my heal, nor any utilities and I still won.

Now I ask ANET, why is it you let a class have so much? Stealth, multiple blocks, invunerablity, mobility and a damage source that not only ticks while he sits inside stealth, a damage source so high that is hits like a full zerker thief, but is tankier than a full soldiers guardian… Confusion first of all, should be counterable, it shouldn’t do a like 5k base damage, sure keep that in pve by all means, but not in WvW. On a side bar, burning is also a huge problem at the moment.

Okay, on to condi thief, I haven’t touched condi thief, I’d feel too dirty switching my beautiful thief to condi, but I’ve played a lot against it, and it gets a lot of what condi mesmer does, other than the blocks and invuns, but they get damage negated through stealth, I was fighting a condi thief yesterday, and he literally put me from 100% to 25% within using two skills, which would be fair enough, I mean zerk thief can do the same, but the difference again is, he’s not even close to as squishy as a zerk thief. I’m starting to think you should make soldiers do zerk damage and just remove precision and ferocity entirely, because what’s the point when dire can do the damage of a zerk thief and be just as tanky and a guardian?

I’m sure there will be people on here who will turn around and question my skill, go ahead, but I’ve been playing this game for 2 and a half years and a lot of that time spent has been spent on me learning every class and how to counter and play against them to the best of my ability, I’m not one of those power meta nuts who doesn’t take countering condi into account, I do… with every single class I have.

In conclusion, I strong feel that burning and confusion need to be brought down to a fair state within WvW, also I believe that it would be in Anets best interests to nerf condi mesmer and thief, so they dont ruin the game any further. A way of doing this would be, for example; if say the conditions are ticking over 2-3k combined, if they then enter stealth they get revealed instantly. Sorta like how throw gunk works with thief.

Remember anet, WvWer are the ones who usually end up buying more gems, please take a day away from HoT to make WvW game mode more enjoyable for everyone.

Also before anyone tries to point this out, no I don’t run a full zerk thief, i have about 3 pieces zerker now.

People can scream and be upset that one on ones are just ruined…

…but when you have 40+ enemy coming at you and you are one or up to five people, you can FERGET evern trying to run – stuns, stealth, locks, and the unlimited hits one can take but we can only “give” five with our best AoE, and Anet can’t see that there is a major and easily fixed inequity here?

Why can a zerg hit everyone?

Why can’t the fight be a bit more even by saying a player can’t be hit by any more than five?

Being hit by an insane amount of conditions before one can even allow fingers to turn and run, is bad enough but the thing is? It shouldn’t be this way in the first place – ergo the zerg.

Take away the unequal hitting – that only five hits per player, the rest are just throwing nothing and getting nothing for their efforts.

Also, release the cast times, when is a game ever going to allow real skill to show and allow us to use our natural reactions to cast rather than an arbitrary number when we are being hit by 40+ or just three when we are alone…

Give us a chance.

Come on, this is the most important part of GW2 and it is certainly the most neglected in so many ways.

When I experienced the no audio it always happened when my character was facing away of the one talking, or they were too far away.
Are you using headphones by any chance?

We are not talking about random conversations, we’re talking about cut scenes with us in them – and most of the conversation isn’t heard but still mouthed.

Even in the beginning in making a new character it happens, and it has nothing to do with headphones or no headphones, it has to do with an update that broke the sync module for voices.

I just wanted to provide an update for you all. We’ve been investigating the cause of VO failing to play under certain circumstances, and we think we’ve fixed it in our development environment. We’re now planning some tests to verify if the fix worked. I don’t have an ETA on when a patch would be deployed but I wanted you to know that we’re closer to a resolution. Thanks for your patience and for reporting the issue.

So even putting in tickets for this and other issues is not garnering help nor even a response in my case – and from what I read around the net and on reddit, I am not the only one.

[Suggestions] Remove Edge of the Mists

I’m sure people have suggested this before, but hadn’t seen it so here it is.

World Vs World right now has become something really, well, what’d I’d call almost ridiculous. I’m a GW1 Vet(Played in it’s alpha even in Pre-searing!) and even played in the GW2 very early betas. When I saw footage, and played World vs World originally I was in awe, the idea of this in a Guild Wars game was really great, and exactly what I wanted.

When playing it there were many problems as I’m sure many of you know, originally arrow carts were ridiculous, there was still a zerg, but it was FUN. Our group of 5-8 could go around, build trebuchets, or what have you, seige the side of castles and open up holes for our zerg while also contributing to taking supply camps, small towers etc.

With Edge of the mists this was Killed. Player count in WvW which you used to have to Queue up to every map for (Which was good) was decimated by people farming in the new map. The new map just consists of the zerg running around and farming events, and has nothing to do with world combat. This takes completely from WvW total players, and if these people do want to zerg it would at least be 100% better (With the changes coming in HOT) to have these people in the normal maps. This will in turn push some of the zerg, off of it, and back into the defense, etc to make the WVW experience much better.

TLDR: One thing WvW misses right now is Players. Sorting this would make the combat a lot better.

Second point I think is Autoloot, If this were real life — yes, stopping to loot things and ‘Pick them up’ would make a lot of sense, but when people aren’t smart enough to go back to get their gear AFTER the fight, what happens is it causes both the zerg, and normal people to either:
A. Spam f while in combat
B. Stop mid chase to loot

Both of these are bad for the overall for the WvW experience I think, and I really hope for the first one at least this gets considered for the HOT release, because if not WvW will likely stay empty other than the zerg.

This WvW siphon is hard for lower servers but impossible at the top three.

EOTM was never a good idea.

Join me in the Silverwastes, I will show you fun that we’d not want taken from us as players who can show what real teamwork can do.

This is the event to teach how to progress through events, and if done correctly you get quite a bit of things you need for every aspect of the game.

They finally found a way to buy that Pre-Cursor you have sitting in the TP if you just abandon EOTM, come to WvW for raids and ask that Anet keep the Silverwastes as a permanent feature of Guild Wars 2.

I will teach anyone who thinks that they are having fun in EOTM that they really aren’t, well, I am sure there may be a few who don’t like being able to make gold and get to ascended with all characters without massive pain again, finally.

Yep, the fun finally is back in events, but it certainly isn’t in EOTM.

Come back to WvW, your server needs you.

Come to the Silverwastes with empty bags and MF food.

Is it possible to beat a mesmer as a ranger?

I disagree that it makes sense. You still need to go on the offensive for it to be offensive. You are not winning by merely defending. Therefore any offense is a better offense than defense.

Plus, you cannot have both be true at the same time. If someone purely defends and someone purely attacks, both cannot have the best offense.

At first reading this I thought I was confused. After reading it twice more I realized it was you who was confused.

You cannot say the best offense is a good defense if in order to win, you need to also go on the offense. Whereas you can say that the best defense is a good offense because you already won with your offense.

Defending is about repelling an offensive. If going on the offensive to exploit the aggressor’s lack of defense, you are still being defensive. If you manage to put the aggressor on the defensive, and they ofcoarse have no reasonable defense cause they put everything into offense, they lost.

The best defense is a good offense, is both fallacy and truth. Condi bunker vs glass cannon.

If you need an example where what I said is true then go back to gw1 Fort Aspenwood-Kurzick side. If you just try to turtle forever you maybe will win barely. But if people go out and take the cap points you will win most of the time. Doesn’t matter how aggressive kurzick side is, they are still the defender.

I could explain to you further but I’m not a teacher in the art of war. Actually there is a book I think called just that lols.

I always play on the Kurzick side and I noticed that if we have more than two healers (be it monk or ritualist), the chances are higher. They can hold the last gate by keeping the juggernaut alive. Things would look great for Kurzick side if they have one protection monk and one healing monk.

Do people still play FA/JQ/AB? I went there recently and no one was in any of those maps. They show up on the days/weeks for the quests?

Is it possible to beat a mesmer as a ranger?

Like the title says, is it possible to beat a skilled condi mesmer that knows how to clone/etc with a ranger?

If so, can someone give me a quick guide or some tips on how to beat one?

Yes!

It’s easy, but it’s work. Easy as in it’s easy to make sure you aren’t hitting a clone.

Kiting is key, don’t stand still! Rooted tools will probably mean you are close to or dead.

You find his real “self” – look for the buffs, the clones can’t have them – once I know which I am cycling for, tab becomes my best friend.

Do I win every time?

Nope, but it’s not every single time.

Condi clear galore is necessary so you have to trait and use the clears.. and I am not glass…

I’ve had a few ask for my build; no one can figure out how I play it so it makes me frustrated that my gain can’t be easily duplicated – it’s work, it’s fun, but it’s not godmode.

GW2 Graphics are a Hot Mess

I read the entire post and still my reply is:

The visual clues aren’t just in the character’s animations, they are in the very things you complain about. These flashes, whooshes, and whatnot ARE the visual queues of your opponent’s attack.

Look, if you don’t like it, there is a very simple solution already in the game for you: lower your graphics settings.

It doesn’t matter what the graphics are set to – and many of us have better machines and very fast connections.

You must not be playing on tier 1 wvw or a boss map or mordremoth much – because all of those things have nothing to do with “graphics levels” at all, it’s just a mishmash of things that just don’t work – separately or in combination.

It seems you didn’t bother to read the postings, you skimmed them and pronounced all of us idiots.

Not even close.

The game has serious issues which are about to be compounded by even more problems without a single one from over three years of postings and begging have done nothing to get most of them fixed.

My pet has half the life it does in pve? Want to know why Rangers are at a great disadvantage? That’s just one – and there are many more mechanics that don’t work.

You can’t get 50% health back by “lowering graphics” and you can’t make the UI work when it just isn’t.

DDOS attacks at the same time on TS should tell Anet that their game is being popped from outside sources but hey, let’s not use some intelligent computer forensics, just blame the players, Anet has plenty more where we came from.

It’s disrespect bordering on malfeasance to allow a game to have so many errors, errors that would not be accepted in any console game or arcade game – and we paid much more than we did for those so why do we have to go without logical fixes for broken mechanics for over three years?

GW2 Graphics are a Hot Mess

Attention grabbing title. This is intended as constructive feedback.

tl:dr Sensory overload is a core design problem that affects gameplay and gates content, not just an inconvenience.

So today I finally figured out the source of my love/hate relationship with GW2. I’ve always felt that this was a great game hiding underneath a layer of obtuse, “almost there” game mechanics. I said it had no depth, no counterplay. People tell me I just didn’t see it; the counterplay was in the timing, the positioning, reading your opponent. I just couldn’t see it.

Literally, as it turns out.

To understand this discovery, I will tell a story. I was discussing Ranger builds with a guildy of mine, and he invited me to a duel to see how I used mine. Now I don’t pvp often, and expected to lose, but what happened was simply infuriating. He dodged everything. He had perfect timing. I couldn’t understand it.

When I asked him how he did it, he told me: “I read your character animations.”

Now, dear reader, if you’ve made it this far without stopping and making a L2P post, you may be wondering why the kitten this is a revelation.

The reason is this: I can’t see the characters, much less their animations. I have long assumed that this is the normal way people experience the game. The one person I know IRL that also plays says the same thing (and neither of us has vision problems). As a result, I assumed that other people simply were more familiar with the animations or something. The situation above made me realize that there is a real, physical difference in how I experience the game vs how my guildy does.

I can see my own character, and the circle on the ground that tells me where the target is, but that’s it. All I see at the target location is a blob of movement and color. There are so many particle effects, so many whirly swoosh effects (aka, movement lines), so many overlays and transparencies and animations that the target is completely obscured.

I can no more learn to read the animations then I can learn to read a book with it’s pages glued shut. The information is simply not there to me.

This is not a rant; this is me describing a PHYSICAL difference in the way my guildy and I see things. What to him is a competitive game of precise timing and positioning, is to me a mass of meaningless colors. I’ve been playing GW2 for 3 years. It’s not a matter of learning the animations; I’ve played Ranger extensively, I was facing a fellow Ranger, I KNOW these animations. I just can’t see them. At all. It’s a matter of sensory input and how GW2 completely overwhelms it.

Since then I’ve done a bit of careful analysis of the graphics to identify the main culprits. Anet, please fix these, preferably by making the UI and graphics elements more customizable. If you can’t, fire your artists and get new ones. This is a basic accessibility problem, no different then people who ask for a colorblind mode.

Culprits, in Order:

1. Floating Damage Popups: I’ve been tuning these out for so long I barely noticed them until I did my careful study of the UI. These kitten ed floating numbers actually completely block everything behind them. Crits in particular, with their red Adam West like “Wham!” background are completely opaque. They are moving, brightly colored attention grabbers, and block everything behind them. They are evil. I had learned to tune them out, but in the process tuned out everything near them, including the target. They are pure, unmitigated evil. Let us turn them off.

2. “Motion Lines”: This appear on dodges, certain skills, projectiles, and the Swiftness boon effect. Consider what they really are: graphical elements moving in OTHER directions from the character model. Remember, although rendered in 3d, monitors themselves are 2d. When graphical elements on the same location of the screen are moving in opposite direction, it can be nearly impossible to tell. Eyes (the physical, actually existing, goo-filled things that most of us have in our face) are notoriously easy to fool, and these motion lines are pretty good at it. No wonder I can’t tell what way people are dodging; the graphics are showing movement in all directions at once because of these lines swirling all over the place. Tone them down, big time.

3. Particle Effects: OMG. So many of these, it’s disgusting. This is an old problem, and one that’s never been addressed. Since it’s been discussed elsewhere (since Beta, in fact), I won’t do it here.

4. Animated Indicators: For example, the “Vulnerability” indicator that pops up when Vuln is applied. It’s a semi-transparent shield that pops up, floats above the target, then cracks into many pieces and fades away. Why waste so much movement and flash on simple debuff icons? Save that “sensory overload budget” for the actual combat target.

Contributing Factors: Just for reference, cuz these can’t really be changed, but by comparing GW2 to other games I identified them as problems. (notably, Wildstar, which is so easy to read I was doing it instinctively before I even knew what the different telegraph patterns meant)
-Pacing. Every autoattack chain, skill, action takes a different unit of time or multiple thereof. There’s no “beat” to combat like there is in other games.
-Multiple Races: Multiple animations. The same actions often look nothing alike on different characters.
-Too Much Bling: Armor, weapons, etc. So distracting. Please let us use “Standard Enemy Models” in all PVP modes.

I have had it with “not working skills” that are hit by mouse click of by keystroke anywhere from three to twelve times without going off when they used to have a lot better “response” is quite the game changer when it’s not happening to others in wvw and pvp – pve I can mitigate and have much less of the issue because my pet has twice the health as in wvw.

Voices are all off – not just the missing sequences and half of the voiced cut scenes, no, it’s much worse, I am still hearing, after this was supposedly fixed, other voices that aren’t mine, can’t be anyone elses because I am alone and I am not human, norn nor a necro (all of the emotes that come to mind over the past 24 hours alone…).

No, the game is losing integrity – and thereby the game scores are changed – some players can’t “play” since their skills aren’t going off – it makes the other side in godmode and is totally unfair to all to whom this awful thing happens.

As a last thing – Anet did a horrid job of “play like you want” with “Pirate Ship” and other “meta” in wvw.

PvP has its own godmode metas too, heck help the person trying to get a daily if all are wearing the same meta builds.

Dailies on lower maps where events are thin are a nightmare.

But then again I can always go back to the original complaint that is older than almost every single thing that has not been fixed, not even spoken of being fixed – the venerable f2 (f3-f4) not working – ever in some sessions.

Oh and now pets don’t attack many things, walls I get, but mordremoth vines make pets just stand there and do nothing… like they do in some pvp games, like they do in some sessions of wvw… not attacking – not moving – jerking forward but not doing a thing.

Hundreds of dollars some of us over three years and you’re still playing the “really it’s not our fault” game with very loyal customers who love the game but wish you would pay more attention to its innards before going on with “new” content that, if beta was any indication will be a true nightmare for many on top of the aforementioned ad infinitum bugs, skills not going off, voicing you paid so much for not being played, getting stuck in walls, boulders, and not being able to HIT a supervisor in a camp even when you are standing on top of him because it’s blocked but the VIEW you present of the camp is NOT topographical AT ALL – even in a tower, a straight tower, one is blocked from hitting the supervisor by an invisible force – only the correct “angle” will hit him when this happens.

And and and and, players are tired of being told these things are fixed when they truly are not.

It is impacting scores, game-play (especially in pve in the new events) and our ability to recruit to guilds and WvW.

Lupicus is still soloable, but now you need good rng or you get killed by e.g. invisible projectiles (I get hit by them very often, sometimes even while dodging or blocking – but that is probably just me lagging – Lupicus is not very lag friendly boss) or when he does shadowstep and aoe spam at the same time while he is invisible… pretty much fun in Arah
but still in groups, it can be done pretty easily with reflects and without cheesy OS

Pet Standing Not Attacking Not Moving

I am really tired of this.

First it was mainly in WvW, but over time it has also been seen in PvE and PvP:

Our pets aren’t attacking – they are just standing there like they are stuck, they try to move, they try to animate, but they are stuck.

Why are characters, not just Rangers, not given the attention they need not to become corrupted and not be able to do “what is intended” in a game that garners millions of dollars a month for the game-maker?

Pets are told to kill – they don’t move.

Pets are told to use their f2 ability – nothing happens.

Pets are told to attack a character or person in-game, they attack or don’t attack that person – attack the wrong person.

Hello? Anyone home?

Pet mechanics are broken – not just f2, all of the pet mechanics are broken when you can’t get it to attack a single thing in any game mode.

It’s so darn intermittent it has to be written into the pet!

If you type “/wiki worldboss” in game it will bring up a list of world boss timers. You still have to alt tab back in, but it does cut down on time a little.

Dynamic Matchup Suggestion

Alright this is just an idea because honest i’m getting bored of having the same matchup for over a month. So here’s an idea create a dynamic matchmaking system for WvW meaning say your server in the bronze tier you will be randomly matched up with any server in that Tier, if your server is in the Silver Tier your server will be randomly matched up with any server in that Tier, same goes with Gold Tier you will be randomly matched up with those in Gold Tier. Note That Tier you would fall in would from hence forth determine your matchup sorta like how WvW tournaments worked.

I and many others had a better idea:

Match the number of people, not the number of servers:

Ergo, for example:

Jade Quarry VERSUS four to xxx servers until they are matched in WvW participation size.

The combinations are endless, the game would be refreshed and JQ would sink like a proverbial stone as a new and better dynamic is introduced.

Good servers working together would be able to win prizes through cooperation – wow what a concept.

MMOs were meant to have more than just “three” or “two” per “side”, and the reality of what should be instead of what is stale and unworkable and unfair to every server below number 1.

We need real battles, and real alliances – and one server or three servers or six servers against one another, the combinations would be more than fun and you’d learn more cooperating rather than sniping your own players because you can’t get a single response to any call-outs on many servers…

Fun would be increased and a new interest for WvW would bloom…

Ah the possibilities…

I, like many, like you, are sick and tired of the ancient-ness of no timers for beloved events.

We are the game – we bought the darn expansion months ahead of time and for our trouble you give us a game that is buggy, doesn’t have the least of tools to be able to manage one’s time in-game and then treat us like the enemy when we ask for simple things that many other games allow outside the game but few have inside – which is where they are needed.

Stop the backwards thinking and move MMOs forward; we’re not asking for godmode (that some have in pvp which is so devastating when trying to do a daily with uneven teams, WvW that is destroyed by hackers and bugs and too few per map, too few per team -I think it should be 25 to any team in WvW-)

We’re asking for pvE only change – a logical progression that should have been built into every single MMO since the ability to have it was available to programmers.

It’s your game, but we are the players who pay so much for so little in-game control that will help many not to waste time on bad timers and lost opportunities to get dailies done as efficiently as possible and then move on to more important things – like raising children and working for a living.

A correct timer for World Bosses – it’s not much to ask.

Why Do Pets Have Much More Health in PVE?

no just pets i think , this was done Ages and ages ago before the WvW seasons last year.

due to pets dying in 1 hit vs World bosses and some champs for fractals and dungeons they added bonus health to pets to help them survive.

WvW stayed the same as they wanted this to be more even to the Spvp health levels of pets.

Couldn’t they strike a happy medium between the two for WvW though considering WvW has more and stronger build variation than PvP?

Totally, absolutely, unequivocally, no.

Pets should have the same high health they have in PvE.

Why?

Ok, let’s go with your premise PvP, that means everyone in WvW will be stripped of trinkets, skills, buffs and anything that can help in a large group.

Nope, doesn’t work.

Pet’s need to:

Grow up

Become stronger with training

Never have less health than the day we find them.

AND not have Anet lower it in PvE, which is what I know they would do if they looked at it, so our pets would be totally useless in PvE as well as WvW and PvP.

Some of those new upgrades do look like kitten. Wtkitten is with the banners? As if broken mesmers and miau wasn’t enough, now we have all of these random things branching out into bizarre game play. There’s no correlation anymore and WvW has become the blender for whatever the miaumiau they want to toss in. Dinosaurs, spirit banners, element towers, magi tech siege, broken classes that can kitten well permanent invis, .. what even in the kitten is going on?

Many who aren’t here and who don’t frequent the forums certainly agree.

New player question

Not F2P player, played back when the game first came out but didnt make it very far, returned recently.

Not a troll question at all, but there seems to be a lot of dislike for rangers, mostly around using longbow only with a bear pet.

Im still only level 20, but my main question is whats wrong with using a bow exclusively, it is a ranger class is it not? I guess the bear pet is a tanking pet, so people in dungeons may not like it, but why switch to melee weaps in dungeons and not just stick to bows?

I always use a bow in fractals (short dungeons with a kick), pve, pvp and wvw, but I don’t hear many complaints these days with those I am with because I am not your average Ranger, I am not zerker and I do help the team with buffs and revives/rezzes more than any other team member.

Yes, it’s still a bit touchy out here for some “Bear/Bow” Rangers, but the builds are far more diverse now than before except for pvp where mesmers tear everyone apart with their permastealth and incredible uneven builds, but hey, we’re great in pve and I believe, truly amazing in WvW when built right.

Do I use a bear in WvW? No.

Do I use one in pve? No.

Do I use one in pvp? No.

But I have and I did but now my play style has changed, the pet didn’t.

Play the way you want.

Find out if you are more power or condition “based” and then find your build by going to places like youtube and metabattle – your build can start there and become all yours with just some practice in pvp and a lot of roaming in wvw.

Pve? You won’t have to worry much about that – you are a stronger character than most in pve and your pet has twice the health as the other two, very neglected and very sadly managed wvw. (i.e three years of pets being at half health, three years of bugs that have been recorded and reported and still not enough on “teams” but hey, we get a guild hall that many won’t use not being in guilds.)

Be a Ranger – then play the other characters and see how fast your Ranger really did level – the easiest to level and one of the most fun to play because you aren’t alone, your pet, albeit very hobbled from the time you tame it, becomes your friend, companion, and your healer.

Rangers are fun, but we are also of more utility than most give us credit for – ergo some servers have “Ranger Night” in WvW or PvE – those nights are epic just – plain – epic.

Thats why I think adding Rune of Mercy to Allies’ Aid might be good since it would make it even faster and add 400 toughness and give extra health.

But adding Search & Rescue would probably be a waste. However, he would have to test it out. The tooltip doesn’t say what the cooldown on Allies’ Aid is. Adding Search & Rescue could still be amazing, especially with Resounding Timbre lowering the cooldown and having Rune of Mercy. Likely overkill, but possibly amazing.

But it might work best in small scale WvW.

Second: Resounding Timbre reduce the cooldown of Allies Aid, which is nothing else than Search and Rescue as a trait. You also get regeneration and swiftness.

About the build: Support alone is not enough. Your damage is to low and this way this build will be carried by your teammates. You need some balance between sustain, support and damage.

I`m running this build for some weeks, using resounding timbre to share swiftness. You will deal more damage while get access to the same support your build is providing for your teammates right now.

1. Support

Heal as one with 12 s boonduration and 16 seconds cd is more than enough to offer 75% boon uptime. There is not need for a second shout if you only focus on boonsharing.
It also provide weakness, vigor, immobilize, cripple, fear and taunt to support your team by reducing incoming damage and slowing the enemys movement. If an allie goes into downstate just use petswap next to him, use f2 taunt to interupt the stomp and then start to heal your allie.

2. Sustain

Great access to dodges and conditionremoves. Your Hp-Pool is not so high, but Heal as One can heal about 50% of your Health-pool, which helps you to stay above 90% hp. While above 90% hp you reduce incoming damage by 33%, combined with oakheart salve and protection(companions defense, protective ward) you reduce even more of the incoming damage. I dont know if you can just add all together. If you can stack the damagereduction it would mean, that you can have up to 71% additional damagereduction(, but im not sure with this).

3. Damage

After this patch the conditiondamage was really buffed. Sunspirit provide up to 10 stacks of burning every 5 (or 6) seconds, if you have three allies around. But notice that a teammate without conditiondamage also apply only low damage burningstacks. Rest of this build is a usal survival condition ranger build with a/d and s/t.

In PvE and in WvW, Search and Rescue is an amazing skill that:

Adds to the value of Rangers as a team-member

Adds to the wins of pvp, pve and wvw in many ways.

Search and rescue and Allies aid

The build is pretty bad.
It’s goal is to help people back from downed state.
Nothing helps them stay alive, though.

So you will basically stay a CC banner at fights trying to get people up, without dealing damage, decapping or any other important mechanic.
At the end of the day, Guardian who will lock all enemies out will definitely stay better protector and objective controller.

The game of 500-100 lose was a nice demonstration of how useless the build is. If your team does everything right – there won’t be anyone to revive back up.

I have to agree, it’s a grind, especially when the recipes must be looked up on the net and some of them aren’t easily found even then.

We don’t get mats for the levels we need – not even for the levels we are – left with tens of thousands of spikes, and other useless materials that gain us nothing and wouldn’t even be “found” if we were killing enemies while gathering.

Drops for any many kinds of materials just don’t fit what we are “expected” to be able to accomplish – and therein lies the truth, Anet doesn’t want you to be able to craft easily – otherwise their little cash store would have many fewer people buying gold to try to get to the magic 500 to make what costs even more – and more gold.

The drops are abysmal – regardless of whether you are crafting to 400 or need to craft to 500 for ascended materials.

Help with a small group WvW build

what classes are also going to be in your group? I mostly solo or small group roam (LB/sw+d or LB/GS) and the biggest problem I have is that when our group of mostly warriors / guardians comes up on another group, as a ranger I am the first one the enemies want to focus. So how glassy I could go is limited because the perceived toughness of my team mates classes makes me look like the easier kill (which is fine, I can play to that). If there aren’t eles, thieves or mesmers in you group, you should really consider not being too fragile (fragile in our group situation is less than 18k HP / 2600 armor), or running either a good amount of stun breakers (so you can actually use that GS block) or an immunity like SoS or Protect Me.

Neither of the builds posted are going to survive alone against a condition based class, but the one Ashfiend put up at least has a damage immunity and a full condi clear, which are things you should really consider. Being too easy to kill makes you a team liability.

Personally, I think the coolest thing you can do for a 5 man team is to bring stuff to the table that only you can do for your team as a Ranger. Primarily, that means Sic ’Em for killing mesmers, thieves, and Entangle, both for saving your own hide and for setting up kills for the group.

I’d recommend something like this:

It still isn’t going to beat a good condi player 1v1 either, but it brings a lot to your teammates that is generally Ranger specific, so they will notice what you are adding to their comp:

  • You are bringing 3 on demand removals, one of which is a full clear with condition to boon conversion (Lyssa+Elite skill).
  • You are bringing Quickness stomps and lots of burst via QZ and Zephyrs Speed
  • Your pet cc’s (fear, and either chill or immobilize from second canine) are going to actually hit the target thanks to Zyphers Speed
  • Your own aoe CC with entangle. Your melee groupmates will love you for this.
  • Sic ‘em: Engineers barely exist and those that do don’t run reveal. Until HoT, its a Ranger who is going to reveal that enemy thief or mesmer long enough to get the kill.
  • Group swiftness and regen tied to your heal. Every little bit of team swiftness helps. I use this on cd when running around with my team.

What you lose by not taking MM:
Not much. MM really isn’t that great for wvw unless you need to have piercing arrows for the zerg (valuable) or you are running some glasscannon maul burst spec (high risk / high reward). You can make up the lost automatic opening strike crit with intell sigil on GS, which lasts long enough for both of your quick-draw Mauls. The guarantee that both mauls are critting makes the loss of the 25% opening strike damage bonus a wash.

The gear i picked out is mostly exotic or easy to acquire ascended jewelry since thats where you said you were starting.

I think this build works best by really getting the most out of quickdraw. Really try hard to maximize your weapon swaps and learn utilize the power of quick drawn double burst or double stealth / cc / mobility. Call target on an enemy that has just come out of stealth, and hit them with Sic’em right before their normal 3sec reveal wears off. Use Entangle, it does so much to set your group up for a win when placed well. Same with petswap + canine shouts: chilling, fearing or immobilizing multiple enemies for your group is clutch.

You also have two wrong family sigils on this build – can’t have two 50% crit sigils on the same weapon.

I have to wonder why so many make this mistake when it clearly says you can’t benefit from both.

Help with a small group WvW build

If you are in a 5 man, I would be setting up traits for more damage and group support than for roaming. Something like this will allow you to give your party perma regen/swiftness as well as 50% uptime on Fury and clear a condi bomb from them. You have to swap your pet immediately after using SoR though or it will melt. Because you have your mates with you, I think you can play a little more glassy so won’t need soldiers gear, a little more vit and toughness is probably all you need like in the build I linked. So you really get quite a bit of the same as your warrior, just different ways of doing it.

You have 1500 range with the LB, so you should be able to stick with your mates majority of the time, but stop closing on foes once you hit 1500, allowing them to move forward in front of you, so you are essentially backlining and focusing their called targets with RF, SoTW and “SotP!” with Remorseless. Save and use Taunt on the called target, but make sure they know you will so they can save their burst for then. You don’t really need to stay right away from the fight, get in there with the GS once you have burst with the LB so you can swap back to it for a double RF off Quick Draw to really ruin someone’s day.

Well, that is how I played with my mates when we roamed WvW, last time I could play.

The build you posted, like many, are wrong – you can’t put two similar sigils on the same weapon (in this case 50% on critical).

Please let us know which other sigil should be there.

[Serious Note] Pet Sharing mechanics

Let’s start from the obvious.

~ Our pets are not perfect but can be useful at situations.
~ It separates amazing rangers from the bad ones.

But I feel absurd to see my pet a burden. We all know the cap of most abilities. It is 5.
By knowing this – we all know that our pet is a burden. Or better said: an Anchor.

  • Our pet is supposed to be a straight 30% of our DPS (DPS pets like cats and birds) but when it comes to boons and damage boosts, our pet is not affected at all.
    But what is worse, ANet believes the pet to be a worthy object in this game. They believe it so much that they designed 2 mechanics in the game specifically to weigh us down to promote pets.

Axe 1 and Nature’s Vengeance. The boon the most used Spirit provides is absolute rubbish, I dare to say. Some others, too. The only useful might be Sun and Stone, but that’s not the point here. I remember them saying:

I mean this ideology is extremely wrong. Pets are supposed to be our core mechanic we should be proud of. We are not fine with abilities that are useless for us and party just so that our pet can catch up to us. Plus if that is the reason – it could have been made in terms of “gives our pet permanent 3 might” of any kind. MDG system comes to mind.

I believe I speak for all of us when I say that I don’t want my party to be shortened of buffs because of our pets and that “30% of our DPS” should be 30% of our DPS even full buffed to stay on par with other classes that do not suffer from split DPS pattern (we have lower coefficients because of this).

Furthermore, I believe Nature’s Vengeance and Axe Ricochet ability needs their might duration set for longer period of time, so that the Ranger and other team members can profit from it.
In reality, Might from Frost Spirit is roughly 0,7% DPS increase (a laugh – just like internal cooldown on Frost Spirit back then), and Might from Axe has no value on it’s own – since if you want to set your conditions up (3-5 abilities), all your might stacks will fall and you need 3 seconds to get them back up – wasting half of the durations.

If Rangers are supposed to play with a pet worth it’s place, the pet needs to behave as a part of us – not as a separate person. In terms of scaling with buffs as well as not stealing our party members boons or triggering mobs at PvE skipping.*

I’d like other rangers to share their feeling on this topic. Feel free to discuss to your heart’s content.

If the pet’s health was the same in wvw as it is in pve, that would be a start, but anet doesn’t care one whit that the health is halved in wvw… makes no sense whatsoever.

It’s bad enough when our skills don’t work at all, there is skill lag in WvW and skills go off far too late, but when it’s Anet who stops the pets from receiving boons but can have conditions applied (!), it’s not an even match.

Add even more misery to pain, pets are almost always playing “catch up” to their masters rather than being at their side no matter what unless attacking.

And let’s put it all on the line – pets should not be able to attack creatures they would be trained NOT TO such as MOAS and even RATS without a command, blowing MANY skills instead of attacking HUMANS and THEIR pets.

Anet isn’t fixing a thing in Ranger, this just adds to the many skills that do not work as intended or don’t work at all in WvW.

Since you are clearly not aware, allow me to explain the joke.

“Soon” with the trademark symbol is a jibe at ANet for taking longer than expected to do things or never doing them and never supplying a timeframe for fixes or releases. The trademark symbol implies that it is their standard operating procedure and therefore endemic.

The sarcasm was lost on me because, dear Heimskarl Ashfiend, I can’t READ the TM symbol on my screen at all.

Sorry, but sarcasm in text needs to be larger or at least have a smiley face.

Its not bugged, the ability doesn’t require line of sight, it just requires you to be able to target a person or object.

Yeah, and I really don’t understand why some skill don’t need LOS….
Like the line with the staf on the guardian… Swiftnes need LOS, but not the ligne….

Each skill should use LOS all the time. And the camera should be change each time you take siege (like treb). The best way to fix ac (except for cheater who need to be ban) is to lock the camera when you are on siege.

Uneven and not all the same “parameters” to all characters makes for a very lopsided fight in many cases.

Example: LOS for barrage (Ranger) doesn’t account for elevation NOR angle – how can it miss if it’s going up and over? It does… Every. Single. Time. What a waste of a skill that should work as well as Meteor Showeror any other aoe that must be angled up or down.

Looking at scores this week it seems t3 is the only balanced tier atm. GJ on making that happen. Hope you guys can keep it that way. Now if some other guilds want to balance some other tiers please don’t stack on SF anymore. :P

With all the QQing with BlakGate in Tier 2, and with JadeQuarry and YakBend doubling teaming TarnishCoast in Tier 1, I’d like point out that Maguuma/StormIsle/CrystalDesert is the best place for close battles.

If your looking for good GvG and fights, please transfer to one of the servers in Tier 3. Please come. I’m glad I don’t transfer to JadeQuarry when I had the chance. Maguuma has taught me what true Guild Wars 2 players should be like!

The double-teaming in tier1 isn’t JQ and YB… It’s TC and JQ and they have no reason not to be attacking each other with their numbers.

They forced a large server down by double-teaming – now they will bounce YB out because of?

Too bad WvW can’t just be two servers or more than three, this double-teaming isn’t fighting – it’s bullying without a chance.

WvW is supposed to be about having a chance to win – with skill. Skill doesn’t enter into WvW at all on most servers, it’s all numbers and nothing more.

Glad i m not alone here, and yes…sounds really broken in this patch.

I m mainly use my warrior and arming a Predator rifle playing around for fun, all my lovely shooting sounds was broken/ ignore? during intense fight…As counted in my head, every five shooting attack .only one attack sound was being heard from my client side, which is quite frustrating as it is.

Hopefully Anet Devs or sound engineer would look after in this issues?

Add PAIN to this list of sound/voice/cutscenes not working.

There is an annoying, vibrating buzzing sound – it has been reported before but now it’s far more frequent and most can hear it now – it is skill dependent on my end.

It’s painful when one has headphones on and it doesn’t have to be loud at all.

It happens when I set off my warhorn and a few other skills.

This is either a very bad change or a very bad bug, whichever it is, it hurts and needs to stop.

Please limit free accounts to EOTM. It is one of the easiest ways to control them trolling WvW. Otherwise you will need to restrict supply carry, commander tags, upgrades etc for them in WvW which will be more complicated. Restriction to EOTM only will entice them to purchase the game more if they like WvW and want to help their server ‘win’. Level to 60 before WvW is not a restriction at all for serious trollers.

None of us are dumb enough to believe there aren’t.

If you are going to negate the fact that this would open the door to thousands of immediate spies which can and will change scores, If you are ok with that, then you are not a WvW’er at all.

We’ve had it with imbalances in WvW and the hacking, and the lies, they aren’t protecting WvW at all – never have and seemingly, never will.

It’s bad enough that Anet has ignored their real end game for PvP and PvE – WvW deserves a lot better than it has been given and has not seen the promises made come to fruition in most cases.

I posted some days ago about a hunter’s shot bugg, but they moved my post and no one will look at it anymore I guess. Some people reacted some obvious things about hunter’s shot, but I’m clearly talking about a bug and not something I overseen/missed/didn’t know.

As you see in the picture, the only skill I use is hunter’s shot. the last hunter’s shot I used I got a crit and an air sigil proc. But that has nothing to do why I got revealed, Directly after shooting hunter’s shot I started to jump, and I got revealed.

Now this does not happen if I get stealth from mesmer/thief it only happens with hunter’s shot.

If you want more survivability using a glass stat there is wilderness survival and/or nature magic. Ranger already has decent base hp so covering lack of toughness with the protection boon is efficient.

That’s just not true unless you are in PvE – pets have HALF the health in WvW than they do in PvE, how is that “decent”?

Same goes for many in WvW – the stats are truncated by Anet – all characters need a higher health pool – not just Rangers – WvW is insanely wrong when it comes to health pool.
