Now I didn’t reach r42 in sPvP by dying to thieves, so I fought back.
Everytime I hear the rank in SPvP as a measurement of skill, I laugh too.
Curious. If rank in sPvP is not a measure of skill in 1v1, then what is?
Wait…you admit that the thief is built for trolling and irritating people.
And then you ask why the thief hate?
I think you answered your own question.
I was in the JP yesterday and met a thief as I was going up to get one half of the key. I usually meet very polite players on the way who just go about their own business without needing to prove their manhood. So I assumed this guy was one of them too. Then he pops thieves guild and starts off hitting me with a heartseeker and managed to get a backstab off. By this time I was at half health and still just tried to ignore him, but he wouldn’t let me.
Now I didn’t reach r42 in sPvP by dying to thieves, so I fought back. And killed him. While he was downed, I placed a phantasmal defender on him to repel his attacks.
And then I laughed.
Oh yes, I laughed long and hard over that dead thief’s body. In my experience, it’s the thieves who really need to stroke their ego by ganking peaceful roamers.
So when they force me to teach them a lesson, I enjoy it. Often I can prevent them from running away by typing “lol” (not in WvW) or by using the laugh emote. It’s worked for me more often than with any other class.
Now why is that hmmm?
If you opt in for auto balance, you get the full win bonus, so it doesn’t matter from a glory point of view.
Also, I often deliberately switch sides to the losing team if my side already has all points capped. You can frequently get more rank points in a match by being on a losing team than on a winning one.
I’d like open world dueling so we can kill time while we wait for world bosses like dragons to spawn.
The whole community, just like me, had been waiting for ratings for long. When it first arrived, some were happy, some expected more (titles, rewards, observer mode and so on).
But now we got to the point where it is impossible to find a team for tPvP, even in Desolation, EU’s PvP server. Everyone claims not to care about his/her rating, but still too afraid to risk it, and never teams up with players not even if his core team is offline.
Since we only have rated tournaments, people keep disappearing into the catacombs of hotjoin. It takes more than 1 hour to make a pug team.
Another reason for this can be that you can look for an r40+ team, but nothing ensures they are good, since they can just come in straight from PvE and farm it in hotjoin, so players are afraid to group up with strangers. Ofc, nothing ensures that they are good even without hotjoin, but would be ways more relyable.
We seriously need an unrated tournament.
On the other hand, hotjoin. Conquest is the only gamemode where you can grind rank and still won’t learn anything. You won’t learn tactics, opponent classes’ mechanics and not even how to survive if you are just keep running from one circle to another, yet it is the most effective way of gaining PvP rank. Tournaments, where you must improve yourself to be good, could be a solution.
Hotjoin takes no skill, and makes PvP rank worth nothing.
Or the Heroes’ Ascent system for tournaments (or just bring back HA ), where you get your reward based on consecutive wins, therefore high rank=many consecutive wins=a good player. And not just time spent in hotjoin.
I beg to differ. Hotjoin requires a lot of skill since you do a lot of 1v1, learn a lot about your opponents and it’s always unpredictable. In fact, tPvP is where you can ride on the coattails of your team. I would much rather fight on the side of a person forged in the fire of hotjoin rather than someone who thought they were awesome because their teammates covered up their weaknesses.
Hotjoin is the end game of PvP in gw2.
I’m surprised more people are not doing this. The point of play is to maximize your returns. Not to have fun. The ideal is to have fun while maximizing your returns. Anything else is setting the system up for failure.
Agree. I also think “server pride” means nothing. Unless I personally benefit from WvW in some way, I don’t see a reason for playing.
Super suggestion. This just might make me play WvW more. Right now, I get nothing for the time I spend there. If I can show off my rank it could be a game changer.
No, it would just generate drama for people deciding who fights. Also doubt 20 people would agree to sit and watch, and let one guy play the game instead.
But, even if you found a way to make it work, I doubt Anet would implement something of the sort, it would be much more complicated than the bugs they are having troubles to fix already..
Maybe each server can have a designated champion for a while. Like I said, the details can be worked out to make it simpler and not complex. I just…want some more fun and skill based play rather than mindless zerging.
Maybe a 2v2 deathmatch? We can get creative!
No way. The motive for ranking, is to show off. What’s the use when others can’t see the rank you worked so hard for? Absurd idea. Why will I bother even playing if no one can see my rank?
I’ve been thinking about how to make WvW more than just a zerg fest with no skill. Large groups have huge lag, and the most you can do is spam AoEs, stability and hope for the best.
So here’s an idea. Have some mechanism where a defending tower/keep can challenge an invading zerg to single combat! They send their champion. You send yours. If the invader wins, they get the keep (not sure what happens to those inside), or the gates are broken. If the defending champion wins, the keep/tower is safe for a period of time from that server – say 15 minutes or something. Details can be worked out.
The option to challenge to single combat cannot be available every time since an entire world can be held by just a handful of people. Rather, this option should be bought using something that requires “in-world” work like badges or something. Maybe limit the time period too. Like I said, the details can be worked out.
The idea is to make it less zerg intensive and more fun. Spectators can stand around (temporarily unable to kill each other, or everyone gets the invulnerable buff) and watch the outcome of the fight. There’ll be cheering, advice, goading…whatever!
A lot will be need to be ironed out to make it balanced, but what do you think of tkittenential idea?
Today for the first time I spent a couple of hours with my guild and a larger team running around WvW. Got around 30 badges, and got WvW ranks as well.
But…I was bored out of my mind. In a zerg, there’s really no room for skill. Just spam your AoEs and hope they hit something. If you get focused, it’s most likely the end of the story. And with large numbers, the lag makes skilled play a joke. No way you can respond to anything in time. It essentially more or less comes down either to luck or to who has the initiative.
Now positioning is critical, yes. But there’s no scope for individual skill. The commander kept saying “Stay on me” as we went from one place to another either killing other zergs or getting killed ourselves. And when we respawn, the whole drama starts again.
I mean what’s the point of all this? Where’s the skilled play? Where’s the move and reflexive countermoves? I’m just another body. I’m under no illusions that my presence makes a huge difference to the zerg. I try and do my best, get retaliation up, share the boons with others, but…none of that takes skill.
It got to a point where I was just “Screw this, I’m outa here. Even farming PvE mobs is more fun than this. At least there I’m actually doing something”. Then I had to PvP a bit to get a my mind straightened out again.
So…how do the rest of you guys get entertained in WvW?
As a phantasm mesmer, I’ve met some real tanky minion masters whose health just doesn’t seem to drop and it gets back up really quickly. If you’re in a sort of closed space with them, it’s hasta la vista baby. My phantasms die so fast they don’t even seem to complete one attack!
Other soft counters are blinding thieves who constantly vanish and regenerate. They won’t kill me, but they stay in stealth for so long and vanish instantly and also blind me constantly and my summons get screwed up.
Now and then a well played guardian with blinds will keep staying on top me with teleports (and blinds) regardless of my efforts to get away. If the blinds are well timed, I have nothing.
Warriors…it’s surprising but a well played warrior will kill your phantasms as soon as they appear. And they have have immobilize, stuns, and cripples and charges. It all depends on whether or not I’m able to confuse them with stealth and getting distance. Distance = I win. If they stay on me = I lose. Not easy for the warrior but if they manage to keep their cool and stay on me it can be a tough and very irritating fight for me.
Having said that I still win most of my 1v1s. I don’t often meet good minion master, guardians, or warriors.
Having played a minion master necro myself, I have to say that I don’t fear phantasm mesmers. My health just doesn’t seem to drop. Plus I have good access to AOE conditions which I know the phantasm mesmer is susceptible too.
Is this yet another “let us collect badges in peace” thread?
NO, you will be shot on sight by the enemy; every time. Do you fix SPvP matches for wins?
WvW is PvP, and if an enemy sees you; you will be attacked. Given the low population in the JPs, I’m shocked that a veteran SPvP player is having problems.
Of course I’m not having problems. It’s just a waste of time. For everyone. I’ve noticed that I have to kill a lot of people to get even one badge. It’s just not worth it.
“I am a God at PvP in this game, you guys should just stop attacking me and let me JP farm my badges because I will easily kill you”
Pretty much. What’s wrong with this? Win win for everyone right?
I mainly sPvP and I got my Ransacker title (r41 or so) a few weeks back. My goal in WvW is to get badges via jumping puzzles since I never get enough by following zergs. I just want to go in, get my badges and get out. I want to be left alone. Though I sPvP, I have a full set of exotics with ascended trinkets, so I’m fully decked out.
I can pretty much handle any 1v1 that comes my way. I can’t prevent eles or thieves from disengaging but I won’t die to them. My hope is that if I display my ransacker title, people will have less motivation to attack me. If they do, I’ll kill them. If they don’t, I’ll just ignore.
Of course, none of this matters if a zerg hits me no matter how good a player one is. I even avoid 2v1s if I have a choice and never engage 3v1s if I can help it.
But in general, will you avoid engaging a high level pvp player alone in the jumping puzzle?
As thieves like to say so often to other people:
l2p.
Also, as they enjoy pointing out – the game is not balanced around 1v1s.
Get used to dying to phantasm mesmers if you’re a thief since they melt your face off as soon as you exit stealth. One of the best stealth counters I’ve ever seen. Working as intended.
The only reason I play a phantasm mesmer is to take thieves down easily. Best. Build. Ever.
Has anyone considered that the reason people like zergs is because they’re not confident they can stand up alone against others? I feel this is because of the flawed decision to ignore 1v1 balancing and focus on teamplay. As long as people are not confident of being able to defend themselves and take on others singly, they will always be afraid of zergs.
This is why roamers in WvW are usually thieves, mesmers and others who can hold their own.
Now I’m not saying that we shouldn’t have team play. That’s a no brainer. What I’m saying is that every class should be able to trait for 1v1 or team play if they choose. There must never be a class (like thieves) that specifically excel in 1v1s. It should all depend on the set up, gear and traits.
So a guardian should be able to trait for 1v1 play and be a match for any thief. The outcome will then depend on skill alone.
Give people the confidence to roam around solo and we’ll have less of a zerg problem.
Where are we talking about d/p?
PvE – no one cares
Spvp – I have no experience on thief in structured tourney, hot join, who cares
WvW – d/p is not the #1 troll, invisibility spam build. That belongs to any x/d build in WvW where zergs, noobs and the hordes of red and yellow NPCs do not dodge CnD.
You forget that hotjoin is the heart and soul of pvp in guild wars 2. You can get a lot more glory and rank points in hotjoin. It is by definition the end game in pvp.
Play for sPvP for fun and to be one of the best players. Video Games used to always be about this. Now they are all about Profit. The MMO industry preys upon losers who have no life and very little RL Friends. People that play just to show off or get Uber Shiny gear are people that have a hole in their life that they are trying to fill. It gives their pathetic life meaning and makes them feel special, something they are unable to attain elsewhere.
Play and have as much fun as you can. And try not to take for granted that you live in a place and have the means to play Guild Wars 2 or any Video Game. Billions of people in this world aren’t as fortunate as you and would give anything to be in your shoes.
These forums are not the place to give moral lectures and make judgement on why people play. We play for different reasons and all of them are valid.
You can show off your high rank and gear. I completely agree that you need something for play. For me, I enjoy displaying my Ransacker title and have people fear me. The whole idea is to show off.
Don’t listen to those who say “play for fun”. That’s not why we play an MMO. We play to show off and develop our characters. If we have “fun” along the way, that’s great. But it’s not enough by itself.
I like engaging in 1v1s, 2v2s and 3v3s while roaming. Anything more than that becomes luck based rather than skill. I’m an r41 in sPvP but now I need badges to get my legendary. Zergs are just too random and boring.
Any idea which server has the best small scale fights or dueling?
What does that have to do with Necromancers? Or Rangers? As far as I know, Mesmers and Thieves are the only ones with alot of stealth, or alot of clutter.
It’s a valid point. Sometimes necros or even rangers can get AoE stealthed. And rangers have a trait that stealths them on daze.
I main a mesmer myself and regularly use it to break target. I like doing it, but I can’t help but feel that I’m cheating a bit.
The point the OP is making is that the thief can afford to go full glass cannon and still escape from the worst possible situation. No punishment. And that’s the problem.
Bottom line: A thief only dies if their ego doesn’t permit them to run away.
I’d like hard mode in open world too. Currently there’s simply no challenge while roaming. I remember some bosses in GW1 hm were pretty kitten tough – especially that flame guy in EotN expansion. Needed careful pulling to kill him.
In contrast regular PvE in gw 2 is just too easy.
Cross posted from the sPvP forum. I wasn’t sure where to post it…
So I’m waiting for Tequatl or the Shatterer to show up along with a lot of other people. Wouldn’t it be a nice idea to give us something to do in the meantime? Being able to just challenge someone in the open world would be pretty kitten cool especially when you’re not doing anything but just sitting around no?
How bout…whenever a large enough group of people accumulate in one area, some interesting event occurs? Like say there’s a demon queen feeding on life force of warriors and the presence of so many causes her to appear. Imagine fighting her and Tequatl at the same time!
Just thoughts since I just get bored otherwise. Dueling would be pretty sweet.

Don’t listen to the nay-sayers, Engineers are awesome.
Mine’s a condi build and he’s an irascible little yordle. He just has so many cool tricks he can pull, such good condition application, so much support built into his kit by accident, such great CC. I run a P/P build with elixers and the Tool Kit and I love it. Which the Coated Bullets, I can mow down whole groups if I position myself properly. Then when I get in trouble, Gear Shield into an Elixer S and I’m safe as houses. If someone’s running away, use Magnet (Tool Kit #5) and suddenly they’re right in the middle of our zerg. Then I can pop Box of Nails (Tool Kit #2) and Glue Shot to cover our retreat.
Oh and did an Ele or Ranger just put down a water field? Supply Drop, AoE heal, plus a variety of useful things for the fight.
Is some Guardian or Ele causing us trouble? Let’s see how he likes a bunch of poison in the face. Oh, they cleansed my conditions? Like I care, I’ll just re-apply them immediately.
Got a bunch of people trying to res or stomp someone in the middle of a fight? Toss Elixer S, boom, easy peasy. Or heck, just Toss Elixer R, now you’re ressing someone (potentially 5 someones) with the easiest-to-use res skill in the game. You’re ressing someone while still running around and firing on your foes. Plus you still get a stunbreaker on your bar that refills your Endurance (and probably gives you might, since you probably took HGH), and you don’t even have to wait the usual 2-3 minutes after using a res skill to reslot.
Having trouble with conditions? Slot Elixer C, now you want to be hit by conditions just for all the tasty boons you’ll get.
There are just so many options available to the Engineer at all times. They can be tricky to play but it’s totally worth it. Gadgets do suck, Turrets still need some love, and there are (as with most professions) still a bunch of bugs that are preventing a lot of specs from working as well as they should, but I never regret taking my Engi into WvW. It’s certainly a different experience from playing my Mesmer but it’s still good.
EDIT: And keep in mind, I’m kinda weird for running Tool Kit. Most people go nades for super high, super long-range AoE DPS or Flamethrower for even nastier short-range DPS, and the other kits have their adherents as well. It just goes to show you how many ways there are of playing this profession, even when its potential is being gated by bugs. The trick is finding your favorite style.
Thanks for that. I’ll try to not give up on my engi just yet!
I just realized I have some 189 baubles and 1 bauble bubble in my inventory. Moto in Rata Sum no longer has the option to exchange them for anything. So I guess I’ll just destroy them now?
This phantasm build is awesome and I use it to have a 14-3 win/lose in spvp recently. Here are some questions. First is I find the 20% reduction of sword skill only works for sword #2, from 10 s to 8 s. But when we change weapon, we have 10 s cooldown. After using sword #2, we change weapon. And after 10 s we change back and sword #2 just finishes the cool down. So I prefer dodge/illusion here. Since more illusion means more regeneration possibility and confusing. For the runes I use runes of eagle since I prefer high crit chance. I have 57% of crit chance without fury. But I have no idea on what crit chance is enough for this build. Have you ever try the runes of eagle? With this build, only using one time of sword 2 and 2 blocks will almost finish a glass cannon class.
I’ve gotten too used to near perma swiftness with runes of the centaur. Can’t see myself going back now
Yes, Engi will get easier the more you play and get familiar with the mechanics. Instead of the stealth to drop aggro like you’ve gotten spoiled using, Engi have a ton of knockbacks, blinds, retreats, & immobilizes. So rather than dropping aggro, you maintain the fight but control it better. The nature of the Engi kits allows you to bring a multitude of tools. Engis are quite fantastic in PvP if you take the time to learn them and gain the familiarity you have with your mesmer. As well, they can bring some excellent team healing and utility, which is useful in PvE & WvW.
Playing an Engi has spoiled me. I miss my perma-swiftness, my blast finishers, my multiple heals, my no-CD kit swapping, and my control.
You give me hope! I shall try to persevere…
if ur a warrior/guardian u can just run by and ignore them…granted ur in the right build/good player. i just ignore them usually. even on my necro i just drop marks and stuff usually does it. the foolish thing to do is fight a good 1 v 1 class when ur not a good 1 v 1 class. just keep it moving.
I feel every class should be able to spec for 1v1s or teamfights as they choose. It’s not right for entire classes to be good at 1v1s or in groups. That’s what traits are for – to decide how you want to play. A warrior or a necro or an engi when specced right should be as good a 1v1 class as any thief and any thief should be as good a team player as a guardian if specced that way.
Having said that, if you do find a class that you like as much as mesmer let me know! I’m looking for an alt too. Tried Guardian but it’s just too…. guardiany.
Actually I’ve met some really good guardians who keep teleporting on top of me and blind and burn me. I’ve tried doing that myself with my guardian and it’s a pretty good shutdown for phantasm mesmers. Of course, it won’t work with the immortal build since the guardian will simply die of retal. But it’s still quite powerful solo and even in teams because of the AoE burns and control.
Not as good as the mesmer, but still fun. I absolutely refuse to play a thief though…
Pop my turret abilities and he gets perma-blinded, has like 10 seconds of burning, has 6+ stacks of bleed, Rocket Turret lands the first knockdown, I time the supply crate for the second stun, rocket turret knocks down a third time. All knockdowns in a row without him being able to act after eating the first one.
At this point the thief still has all the burning, bleeding, and now poison on him, is at 5% hp, and is stunned on his back while immobilized. Shadow Return, Hide in Shadows, runs away at half health with no conditions on him already out of combat.
Am I the only one that thinks its crazy how can someone apply such an amount of CC and conditions to leave the opponent without being able to act and at the same time complain that others are OP?
Really? He had it all set up beforehand and used his elite to stun. It’s sheer arrogance to go in when you see your opponent preparing their turrets and staking out the area and then complain that they’re “OP” when they reap the benefits of their preparations.
Hi Fellow Mesmers,
I wanted to talk about the Mesmer Downed Skills,
Well, let’s review each skill and see why it is broken:
1) Mind Blast – Puts confustion on the target. Arenanet has made confusion practically useless and officially turned the Mesmer to one of the bleeder classes in the game.
2) Deception – creates a downed clone and teleport the mesmer 12.567 inches away. Seriously??? if the rouges can teleport up to 600 feet, why can’t we!!!!
3) Phantasmal Rouge – Creates a useless illusion that practically does nothing. also on a long cool down. How to fix them:
Well, let’s say that the first thing Arenanet should look at is comparing the mesmer downed skills across the board with all the other classes. they are clearly outdated and unbalanced.
My suggestions are:
Skill # 1 – Change confusion to bleed. At least we can do some dps if we are bleeder mesmers.
Skill # 2 – Creates two clones that attack the target and as long the clones are alive, the mesmer is invisible.
Skill # 3 – Teleport the mesmer to a random location within a radius of 600 feet and create a Phantasmal of Regeneration that heals the mesmer for 928 health per second and as long as the illusion is alive the mesmer is invisible.I honestly don’t think this is OP because the illusions can be killed and the mesmer will be exposed. Also, players can blow their aoes and kill us. So it’s balanced. These kind of skills will increase our chance to survive and rally.
Let me know your thoughts. Just don’t scream OP like a little girl. Explain your reason!!!
Dude…are you insane? I play a mesmer almost exclusively, but this is just obscenely overpowered.
Ever since I reached r40 on my immortal or phantasm mesmer, I’ve wanted to try something else. I’ve played guardians, necros, and most recently an engineer. And…after a while I simply have to get back on my mes to clear my head again.
I’m spoiled. Is it that I’ve played mesmer for so long that everything feels natural to me, or do other classes really have it that tough? Various classes have their strengths. Necros with their conditions and fears, guardians with their boons, burning and teleports and engis with…well I’m not sure exactly what the engi specializes in.
But my mesmer…oh I can just breeze through people. 1v1, 2v1 (never 3 though and I never willingly attack 2 players at full health. I may be a decent player, but I’m not arrogant ), and a little bit of stealth and a teleport….sigh.
Please someone tell me that as I play my engi more it’s gonna get easier. That the moves will feel more natural. That I’ll become as powerful with the other classes…
I will won’t I?
I’d suggest Sir Koroshi’s build to start. Adjust from there. It can handle thieves very well. You can swap bomb for grenades. Perma-swiftness via Speed Kits trait.
Thanks, let me play around with this one
I just got my Ransacker title on my phantasm mesmer and I want a change to make it more fun. But in sPvP, I simply have to be good 1v1. It’s ok to help out the team now and then, but my ego simply won’t let me be happy if I’m not good at dueling. Especially against thieves. Somehow I appreciate a good battle with any other class, but for me to like a build, it simply has to be able to take on any kind of thief one on one.
I wanted to try an engineer and everyone talks about the “HGH” build, so I watched the videos etc and rolled one and it’s not bad. Certainly a lot of team support and if there’s a big fight going on you can definitely contribute a lot.
But in 1v1s, the grenades are a bit too inaccurate and against a pistol thief who moves around a lot never staying in the same place and continuously it becomes tough to hit them. Now if experienced engis on this forum can assure me that it’s only a question of skill and that I’ll become good eventually (I have a lot of patience) then I’ll stick with this build. But I’m open to other options too.
Also, I feel the HGH build lacks good mobility – just the one elixir B to give me 10 seconds of swiftness on a 40 second CD…a bit tough to rack up the points in hotjoin.
So…I want to ask you experienced guys – what’s the engineer build that’s great in 1v1s and has decent swiftness uptime? When I say 1v1s, I mean specially against thieves. I’ve become too used to eating thieves for lunch on my mesmer for me to go back to being afraid of their sneaky bursts.
Any help would be appreciated. And if you tell me that an HGH build is the best, then I’ll stick with it and become good.
Thanks in advance for the help!
A profession that does little outside pestering the enemy and pwning in 1v1’s
Lol. Pestering and pwning in 1v1s gives far more satisfaction and is much more rewarding than taking some impersonal tower or keep.
1v1s are what really matter from an emotional point of view. Group play is overrated.
I keep hearing that people have an insane number of badges of honor. I normally just get them from jumping puzzles, but I decided to try the other way today. I was just soloing some camps, killing guards etc to get WvW rank points when I met a friendly zerg of around 15 people so I decided to join them.
We spent around an hour capturing keeps, towers, supply camps etc. We killed quite a few enemy players and I got drops as well…but just 2 badges for the entire one hour. I made sure to tag as many of them as I could, and used a fair bit of AoE.
But…just 2 badges in an hour? Had I done the jps, I would have anywhere between 9 to 18 in half that time! Guaranteed! Even when I soloed some enemy players, I didn’t get badge drops off them so it’s not just a question of dealing enough damage.
What am I missing here? What strategies do other people use to amass so many badges? I’m surely doing something wrong…
Ah so the people who like rewards are 14 year old children.
Yes, if they only play for rewards. It’s okay to play “for fun” and be happy if there are additional rewards. But some people are really playing only if you give them some reward.
You haven’t explained why this is a bad thing. Sounds like merely a preference to me. Can you show that one way is better than the other?
You are under r10 i guess. And hotjoin kings are the worst ones who can’t be called PvP players.
Tournaments give better gear, gives rating and champion titles. You can be a hotjoin r30 and still play like an r5.
I’m r40. And 7k xp away from Ransacker.

you get that prestige with your own individual skill
And how does a person who passes by you know that you’re such an awesome player? The point is to show off. You can’t fight everyone on the planet and let them figure it out for themselves.
Am I missing something here?
Yes. You’re missing the fact that no one gives a flying kitten about rewards in PvP.
Without rewards, why would anyone play? And how else would you determine what is the “end game”?
You may say that people play “just for fun”, but that’s not true. Take away any and all rewards including drops, armor etc from an MMO and see what happens.
People will play to improve, to test their skill or to have fun. This is not PvE, so rewards are not needed. What are the rewards for winning a Dota game? What are the rewards for winning a Counter Strike game? Right, there is none.
Players who materialize PvP in any game, are either playing the wrong game, or playing the game wrong.
Lots of people here agree that PvP in GW1 was far superior to what we have here. And we had plenty of rewards. Chests for consecutive wins that had the possibility to drop awesome stuff, Zaishen keys using which you could open the zaishen chest for even more cool gear, a whole bunch of accomplishments and bragging rights.
“Fun” is nice, sure. But rewards are better.

How does one determine what the “end game” is? That activity which brings you the maximum rewards. In GW2 PvE, endgame was the Domain of Anguish, or the Fissure of Woe and stuff like that because the rewards were truly phenomenal.
I’ve played my share of tPvP, but after hundreds of wins and a whole bunch of tournaments tokens I realize that this is not the true endgame. The true endgame is hotjoin where I can get max glory and rank points.
Thanks to the matchmaking system of tPvP, you always have a 50% chance of winning the same 200 glory boost at the end. So on an average you net just 100 glory bonus per match, which is…pretty pathetic I’m sure you’ll agree.
In hotjoin on the other hand, I can consistently get 200+ per match and often pass 300. It seems to me that hotjoin is the true endgame of GW2 PvP.
Which is why I find it so absurd that there are some people who think that it’s all about tPvP. In my opinion, all builds, strategies etc should only revolve around hotjoin since it’s the real end game and nets you the most rewards.
Am I missing something here?
Occasionally I’ll troll with it but I never consider it to be a serious build since it’s rarely viable for sPvP aside from hot joins and niche teams.
I think hotjoins are the heart and soul of sPvP. You can get far more rank points with it than anywhere else. Hotjoin is by definition the highest tier of PvP you can aspire to in GW2.
I don’t mind the warriors’s high burst damage because I can see it coming and can respond accordingly.
