Thief is much more preferred in any fast run groups just because he supports and utilizes icebow better than the engi.

Berserker engie is weaker than Thief with ice bow, yes, but the difference isn’t noticeable to the human eye. A 9 second ice bow boss fight lasts 9.5 with berserker engie in place of thief, and thats being generous to the Thief. Whoop de doo.

I can’t wait for Ice Bow to be gone then we get to read all the threads about how useless Thief is as a class in PvE.

Thief is useless? Stealth is useless? high damage in single target is useless?

Thief has pretty much nothing that cannot be done by an engineer as well.

Oh, brilliant, does that mean we can finally do arah records with engineers blinking through walls?

If you’re planning on doing PvE, longbow is not the best idea.
Although it has some uses in niche situations, being the best ranged weapon a warrior has available, in normal combat its a DPS loss to swap away from GS to do a longbow rotation, and you also lose out on potential might generation for your party, since longbow doesn’t proc forceful greatsword.

If you end up in a party with a person whom you do not enjoy playing with because of how they play their character, you have a variety of mature responses to select from: 1) just make a quick and dignified exit by stating that you have to go while thanking them on the way out; 2) just finish the run, thank them for their time, and add them to your block list so that you know not to run with them again in the future; 3) or better yet, you could even make the effort to help them to improve their game by whispering them (don’t use public chat) and present them with your knowledge about the game in a respectful tone, making it clear that you are not trying to “tell” them how to play as people do not respond well to being “told” what to do (in this context).

Lastly, I think you need to keep in mind that many people simply don’t take video games as seriously as you clear do. Many are just logging on to mess around for a bit of fun, and could not care less if they are doing things in the most optimal manner possible. Also, keep in mind that if you are pugging, you may be playing with people who are just starting to learn the dungeon and thus, are not aware of the dungeon’s mechanics or may not be use to playing as part of a group. Even if their AP is high, it does not necessarily mean that they have a history of running dungeons. In addition, some players may have some form of person challenge that makes playing the game far more difficult for them than it is for you such as a vision impairment, motor deterioration, mental health issues, age, excreta. For example, I use to play with a guy that only had one arm. To summarize, you have to understand and accept that not everyone is going to be capable of, or have the motivation, to play the game at your skill level. No amount of raging will change this fact. Either learn to accept people for who they are and help them become better players in a respectful way, or just respectfully decline to play with them.

As much as I agree with this, I think there are some things that don’t apply to the OP’s situation.
If I join a party that simply states the path name and nothing else, I don’t care what builds people are running, if they are using potions or if they are blasting or not, because it was never a requirement for them to do so.
But the problem the OP, me and many others are dealing with is those exact people you describe joining LFGs that ask for experienced people (or possibly other demands written in a LFG advertisement), while those people are not.
Regardless of their situation, they didn’t respect the demands of the people in that group.

I honestly don’t understand why they would want to join such an LFG with the possibility of them being judged.
I recently made a guard that I’m not completely comfortable playing with yet, so I simply just don’t join any LFG that expects things from me, because I’m not certain if I can accomplish those things, and I respect the people that made that LFG’s demands.
Even if people put stupid things like AP requirements, or specifically looking for guards to oneshot lupi, or pulling mossman underwater, I just ignore them, because it is their right to do so, and I should respect their demands, even if I don’t support such things.

If people would just join or make LFGs that fit their own level of play, there would be a lot less conflicts, and no need for posts like this

Banners slow you down a lot tho, and you can easily do 2 blasts with warhorn and longbow, maybe even a third one with stomp if you really need it.
There is almost never a need for swiftness supply from a banner, a warrior with quick breathing and an ele spamming staff air 4 off cd will keep your team at permanent swiftness, and that isn’t even needed if statics are used.
If you are talking from an organised group point of view there is no need to carry banners other than them not being off CD for the next boss, and pugs wont even pick up your banner in the first place

And the getting stuck in combat is a bad excuse, just learn the range of your blasts and know not to use them when there is kitten that will reveal you near

Banners don’t slow a necro down at all. I am not saying this is a tactic you should use commonly. But say 2 friends in teamspeak join a pug. If one is war, and one is necro there is viability there. In fact banners speed a necro up via banner 4 (although not much).

Taking quick breathing means you sacrifice empowered. Granted this is probably only 3 to 5% dps loss. Unless your going to be trait swapping while running. In a pug you get pulled into combat unexpectedly.

Ele spamming air 4 is good. But remember it has a very small range. A class like necro who may get a few steps behind the ele, and then boom, no swiftness for the necro.

Getting stuck in combat is a bad excuse. But it is a real occurrence in a pug. Maybe a ranger forgot to put pet passive, or maybe the thief dropped black powder in a bad spot. Hell, somewhere in this forum we recently talked about how dredge die and leave a hit box behind. Somehow, sometimes players get put in combat. Drop banner + banner 5 are 2 blasts you can always use safely.

Well in absolute perfectly optimized situations it might provide a slight mobility bonus, but I don’t think the OP was referring to tactically using banners for mobility, but rather wasting them to blast and then just letting them stand there while you run.
In my hundredths, if not thousands of pug runs I have never seen someone use a banner for mobility, but I have seen lots of warriors randomly throwing a banner down in a smoke/static field and then having them on cooldown at the boss

this discussion was suppose to be more efficient and to improve new/vets that still not familiar with fields,tactics,and professions roles in dungeons fractels…

Well, of course we ‘ruined’ it. It’s really difficult to take anyone seriously who doesn’t attempt to make use of proper grammar/spelling. At this point we have no idea if you’re just being lazy or trolling, and that’s distracting enough to derail the entire purpose of the thread.

If you’re wanting us to make an effort helping you in reaching out to others who are less familiar with game mechanics it’s not at all unreasonable to ask for some effort on your part when it comes to the format of your thread. At the very least, you’ll have more people who take you more seriously or even read the entirety of your posts.

So someone that lives in a country where it isn’t common to speak English isn’t allowed to post on these forums?
I’m not even a native English speaker myself and I can understand his posts perfectly fine.

Why not put dps numbers out with all the metabuilds while having a couple buddies put all the expected buffs on you, that one would expect in a coordinated fractal group. So the only difference would be the damage potential of the builds and not which class has access to which personal modifiers.

The problem is that this completely changes per encounter, depending on hitbox size, having to dodge attacks, boss moving, etc.
We already did this on target golems, but that in no way gives a realistic representation of a build performing in an actual fractal/dungeon scenario

Where can I see that up to date golem data? Or is it top secret?

It’s easier to work backwards then start with nothing. If you have baselines in perfect situation, then you can eliminate certain damage from rotations to ballpark from their for individual encounters.

1. ele – 23s
2. warrior – 38s
3. engi – 45 seconds
4. mesmer – 45 seconds (stop censoring stupid things anet)
5. thief – 47s
6. guardian – 49s
7. necro – 50s
8. ranger – 54s

This is based on “killing” the indestructible golem 4 times in a row.
Keep in mind that this is against a target that doesn’t move nor attack, so things like mesmer come out way higher than in an actual scenario

Guardian and ranger higher DPS than warrior wat?
And as far as I know sinister engi is only higher dps than power engi on bosses with very high toughness.
On bosses with larger hitboxes, or fights that are under 15 seconds ele is BY FAR the highest dps.

I don’t think picking personal dps builds for every class, but a support build for warrior is fair, since warrior is easily amongs the top 4, if not top 3 personal DPS classes atm.

May I ask where you’ve taken these values from? were they recorded against a target golem or against actual encounters, and if actual encounters, which encounters?
There was a forum post about this a while ago where we tested it against pvp target golems and the dps rankings came out like this:

3. engi
4. mesmer (because target golems dont kill phantasms)
5. thief
6. guardian
7. ranger
8. necro

one criticism. Blasting with banners is a legit strategy.

Warhorn 5 > warhorn 4 > drop banner > banner 5 > banner 3. 3 blasts instead of 2, more swiftness for the group, and more importantly, unlike lb 3, banner 5 will never put you in combat, and you won’t accidentally get stuck without a greatsword.

Also, if there is a class which lacks blasts, such as mesmer/gaurd/necro you can drop the banner, and they can use the banner 5 blast instead. Give it to a necro for best results, as they don’t have much in terms of group swiftness either.

There’s a difference between poor AI and purposely disabling all mechanics a boss has by bringing him to a place he shouldn’t be.
Mossman AI is fine, its the people that exploit him that make his AI bad.

Imo Anet should at least give the people that perform this act a 24 hour suspension, as a warning to others to not do it.
That, or fix the problem, but kitten actually fixing bugs, right?

Emm… disabling AI? Like, hacking Anet servers or smth? You run to him, attack, run back. While doing all those actions you are staying inside level, exactly where you have all rights to be by level design. Not on some bugged rock, tree, or outside of map. If boss not attacking you like he should – this is encounter designer fault, not player. Maybe he forgot to write evade code, maybe he missed a string and disabled underwater part of the encounter, maybe something else – but player have nothing to do with it. End of story.
If someone don’t like that – fell free to not use it, but stop lying about “exploits” and “cheats”.

You’re purposely using a known bug multiple times to be able to fight the boss without him utilizing his programmed mechanics, therefore you are exploiting.
You can discuss if its banable or not, but its a fact that its an exploit, because I highly doubt anet would implement an encounter in their self proclaimed “high end pve content” that does no attacks at all and allows you to afk it as if it were a target golem.

How would this even prevent stacking?
Most melee weapons have a 300 cleave range, you can just stand behind someone in a corner and still hit mobs.

The way you (and many pugs) play the game is just wrong.
There is no reason to pull bosses to corners, you can just fight them on top, but many people fail to understand that.
Going to a corner is only a good strategy when there are a lot of mobs spread out, that way you can pull them together by LoSing and cleave all of them.

Don’t blame anet for making stacking possible, blame dumb people that don’t know how to play the game efficiently

Him having poor AI doesn’t make it not an exploit to abuse the issues with his design. In fact that’s pretty much the definition of exploit, to use your knowledge of somethings weaknesses to your benefit.

Poor AI is an exploit now? Oh, so everyone should be banned for corner pulling (poor AI is too stupid to keep distance), for PbAOE stacking (poor AI is too stupid to go out), for projectile reflects (poor AI is too stupid to avoid WoR or wait it out), for stealth (this is a big one, you avoiding fight completely!) and even for dodge (poor AI is too stupid to keep track on energy).
Oh my, so much exploits!

I just did AC p2 with a friend…. and idk if it was a bug or if it happens like this every time….. but the Champ Breeder that comes during the trap/graveling event did not take any damage from any of the pulled chain traps.

Either the breeder got bugged in this specific instance…. or the breeder isn’t taking damage from the traps.

It never takes damage from traps, only the small ones do

One of the few places I could see lack of DPS getting you killed is maybe on Lupi

Frost, Andal The Thug, Spider Queen, Colossus Rumblus (thanks to amazing NPC), Vahid, and probably a lot more.
There’s a lot of bosses that have mechanics that are difficult to evade over longer spans of time, or adds that can be painful.
The faster you kill a boss, the less attacks he can perform, the less chance you die.

I remember being in a high-end raid guild in another MMORPG called Runes of Magic.
The game was based around a hard trinity, and bosses would simply oneshot DPS classes without a tank holding aggro or a healer/support protecting them.
So we basically just took 25 rogues and mages, and killed bosses before they could even perform 1 attack (“zerk meta” isn’t a GW2 only thing after all)

I think you spelled ‘use your credit card to buy keys from the gemstore’ wrong.

Seriously though, unless they increased the drop rate dramatically (won’t happen – they want you to spend money), playing pve won’t get you much either.

I do a dungeon tour every day and I think I drop a key about every week, maybe every 2 weeks.
Its RNG, but the droprate isn’t that low that you have to buy gems to be able to get keys.
I have 4 claim tickets in my bank and I never bought a single gem

A lot of the stuff is closed off by really high gates that cant be goated over, unlike the gates in the normal TA path

Last time I was there I was able to still actually get to the places so there should be a way ( don’t remember where been a long time ).

EDIT: Just checked it out and you can just get on the branches above the bee place and drop down ( if I’m understanding you correctly ). If your NA and still need help you can just send a whisper if you see me on.

I can get to the bee place no problem, but after the bees where you go to Vevina there’s a huge gate

Ranger has a little bit lower DPS, but brings frost spirit and spotter to buff the entire party.

Underwater safespotting and this are not mutually exclusive fixes. Both should be done.

Why? It juts makes you certain classes that have a lot of AoE potential to solo him now. That’s the only thing that changes with this change. Why is that good?

You shouldn’t be soloing group content to begin with. It’s a fun challenge and all, but it’s testament to how inferior the PvE in this game is when you don’t require a coordinated group doing multiple tasks to defeat “top end content”.

And so by fixing this bug it somehow changes that? The change did nothing but make you get a class that has a lot of AoE potential. Nothing else. That’s it. So my question is, why is that A GOOD change? Why should they make it so that only people with a lot of AoE can solo it when dungeons already have tons and tons of bugs?

For there to be a change there has to be a reason as to why change is needed.

Better question yet, why is it so important for you to solo it to begin with?

Why is it more important for Anet to fix something that only affect soloing, something only a small part of the player base does, than to fix an exploit that affects everybody and thousands of people abuse on a daily basis?

Hi,

I don’t mind doing the dungeons that are around, but I’d like to do them more than one way.

Here’s a fix.

Remove subject words like: OS, Meta, Metazerker, Zerker, Berzerker, Berserker, and etc from being possible to post in the group advertisement listing.

Words that would be allowable: Guard, Thief, Necro, and etc.. ie only class names. This way we can actually play the game.

You built this game so we could play different variations of the classes. Why reward players for breaking your game?

Why do you need to ruin other peoples experiences just to benefit your own?

Cause we try to play without meta-Zerker how we always wanted, and the meta-zerker lovers like you join our group hi-jack it, kick us out, and we have to start over; in dungeon or during prep on the world maps!

I find zerker boring, I have a full set of it (exo+ascended for now), I already did all my dungeons for the AP, so i have different needs than people running it for just money.

I for one am after trash loot such as cores/lodes cause my MF of at least 400% boosted allows them to drop quite often. So I want to kill everything also I want to take long low levels and new players at times to help them experience the game the way they want to experience it. Having people crashing LFGs to troll is not needed and harassment!

You may say form a guild, and we are, but even with 500 maxed out (in the future) ,that’s only 500 out of maybe 1000s or 100s of thousands that feel this way or are new to GW 2. LFG is going to have to be used regardless.

I’m on the OP’s side on this not only from personal experience, but I’m the helpful person that goes out of one’s way to help the inexperienced rather than, “Do as I say!” -lemmings style and mindlessly follow the meta way of doing things and wearing gear they have no business in without understanding it fully or anything much about GW 2 either to begin with, and we all have seen that before too.

So because you want to play how you want, we can’t play how we want?

If you want to kill all mobs, make an LFG stating you want to kill all mobs.
There’s probably gonna be people that join without reading and expect you to skip everything, but the exact same thing goes for people not reading and joining zerk groups expecting to clear every mob.
I would even dare to say it happens more with anti-meta people annoying people that prefer to do dungeons fast, since I used to play ranger and only do casual runs, and I barely got people not respecting my LFG, opposed to people not respecting my zerk LFGs daily now

The only fix for this is to add filters to the LFG tool, so you can actually play with the group of people that have the same playstyle as you

You can use lightning flash while channeling churning earth and teleport to your opponent, if you time this right you can make it hit just as you teleport for huge burst damage.
Its also useful when someone is downed to prevent their teammates from ressing.
Churning Earth is a pretty useful skill in pvp if you know how to use it, but it takes some skill, and stupid oponents, to pull off

But if we assume stupid opponents, then a lot of our crappy skills(in PvP) are suddenly usable, like using Glyph of Storms on-point to stack Burning or letting us land Deep Freeze >.>

If you use the lightning flash technique its pretty difficult for an opponent to anticipate a dodge, especially when they don’t play ele themself and don’t know that its possible to move the channel with you when you blink

You can always count it down(most good players know how long it takes to channel) so at best you’re just making them waste a dodge or just gonna eat a CC.

Lets be honest tho, how many actual good pvp players are you gonna face in an average unranked queue.
Most people are just gonna walk out of the AoE circle because it has a 3 second channel, so no need to waste a dodge.
You can abuse that by lightning flashing right on top of them.
On my celestial build lightning flash crits for around 2500 and churning earth around 5000-7500, now imagine that on a purely offensive orientated build, that hurts.

By your reasoning good players can dodge any animation and count down any channel, but in reality people aren’t gonna dodge everything you throw at them

See, you should never consider bad players when talking about skills, because those same players that don’t dodge Churning Earth are also the ones that die to other dumb stuff and constantly whine about it instead of learning. They’re the same people dying to random crap builds, the same people that never rotate, the same people blindly blaming the team and not themselves for going far every single life and constantly dying against a competent team.

I’m not terribly great at PvP, but the people I fight against will never let me cast Churning Earth, let alone land it. So shouldn’t we consider these good players that actually know what they’re doing?

I guess I just face really stupid people then.
I wouldn’t call myself good at pvp at all, since I pretty much only play pve, and when I do play pvp I mostly play warrior, I only use ele when there is a daily for it or when I queue with friends.
But I use the lightning flash + churning earth combination pretty often, and pretty much always land it.
Its great when people are kiting/running away, in courtyard to deal massive damage to multiple people, or when I play with my thief friend I use it from stealth, which combined with his backstab, oneshots even heavy armor classes and tanky builds

It’s not good for PvE either. It’s only use right now is pre-stacking, which isn’t really necessary as it’s mostly used by organized groups just to squeeze in extra damage before they can get their perma-25 stacks going.

Not every skill has to have a use in combat.

This is probably the most hilarious thing I’ve heard all day. A combat skill which doesn’t have a use in combat. Wonderful.

I doubt Churning Earth was made to be just for blasting things with pre-combat, otherwise they would’ve just made it an instacast to save you having to wait.

I’m not a huge supporter of lightning flash ‘fixing’ Churning Earth either. Abilities on weapons shouldn’t need an utility to be usable.

Not every skill on a weapon is purely used for damage.
Take savage leap for example, savage leap is a DPS loss opposed to the sword autoattack, but its used to move around quickly, therefore its still useful.

Churning Earth has enough uses in combat, you just have to learn how to use it

Its also useful when someone is downed to prevent their teammates from ressing.

Yea, those are all ELEMENTALIST weapon skills.

Read your post wrong I guess, my bad.
Can’t think of any other classes with skills that are completely useless in combat (staff guard maybe?), but those classes don’t have 40 skills available on their weapons.
Elementalist weapon skills aren’t only made for offensive uses, thats why there are 40 of them

Why would you care about a fire field to place your banners in when elementalists already place that fire field for you?
Berserker is simply not powerful enough to replace arms or tactics in a group setting, only use for it is soloing dungeons atm.
Anet should add traits to the specialization that make it actually useful, because the only good PvE orientated trait atm is the ferocity boost

And you don’t even use it in organised groups, in organised groups other people blast your firefields as well so a simple dragons tooth + phoenix is usually enough, especially if there is a second ele.
Its useful for prestacking 25 might in a solo setting, and I don’t see a reason why it should be changed, you have 19 other skills that you can use if you don’t like it

Conjure weapons are very useful in PvE.
Churning earth can be used as part of a might prestacking rotation.

Please give ele weapon swap

Eles should have a weapon swap button — but it should only work while out of combat. That would help streamline us between encounters without giving us utterly ridiculous in-combat power.

You can already do this by just equipping different weapons.
I don’t really see the difference between prestacking might and pressing weapon swap to go to your staff, or prestacking might and equiping your staff to go to staff
