How free is this game…..when you say buy bags, will i be able to use ingame gold and not micro transactions??

There is no content blocked behind a pay wall. Once you have the game, you can do everything in it. Game gold can be used for anything you want. The pay store (buy gems with money, spend gems on items) holds cosmetic and convenience things, but nothing even vaguely pay-to-win.

What’s more: you can buy gems with game gold. They are expensive, yes, but once you’ve been around a while you’ll be able to get things you want that way.

False. If you did not unlock the living story chapters when they were free you have to buy them with gems.

What is this “living story chapters” about??

They progress the story of GW2 leading up to the release of the expansion. So if you care about the story at all then they’re somewhat important to get.

Although you’ll be missing a good chunk of story that happened before they put in the chapter system. Which kind of sucks but nothing can be done about it.

They’re 200 gems each I think? And there is 7 of them iirc.

My advice for you is to enjoy exploring the world. Don’t bother about your character’s gears just yet, just buy those cheapest blues/green gears as you level. Start doing dungeons and gearing up exotics/aesthetics when you’re level 80.

As a new player, go explore and appreciate all the beautiful scenery of every zone. It’s awesome design you know. Complete the zone you are in. Enjoy and don’t let others bother you. Play as you like it.

Visit wiki.guildwars2.com if you need infos. It’s all in there.

Actually that’s bad advice. He shouldn’t be spending any money on gear initially. Buy gear from karma/heart vendors. It’s more or less free if you consistently do hearts and events. Which he should because it’s the fastest way to level outside of zerging wvw maps or crafting, which he won’t be able to do yet.

by them time very many people would reach that many achievement points

The first people are already getting close…it’s not impossible, I used to bullseye womprats in my T-16 back home…they’re not much bigger than 2 meters.

https://leaderboards.guildwars2.com/en/na/achievements

there will probably be another more prestigious armor skin.

That’s the point. Or would you rather they wait until people achieve all the things until they make more things to achieve?

The point was that they would like 1 full set of the armor rather than working on both. I think they implemented this poorly. It’s gonna take most of us longer than 1 presidential term to unlock a set of armor for a game? No thanks.

Making them into full sets was probably an after thought and since at the time some players had already gotten enough achievement points to pass where they start getting the other set it would be a pain to redo the order. So they just made the chest and pants higher.

Are we supposed to care if something is easy or hard for them to do? Because I don’t.

It’s a lazy and poor design decision and that’s what it actually is. Still to this day they could change it if they wanted to and it wouldn’t affect 99% of the people playing the game.

New Balthazar Weapons

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Great sword looks alright, the blade is nice, but they should have made the cross guard a little larger and curved upward, the pommel should have had the balthazar hound head on it in some form, to keep with the theme.

The Hammer is alright. Nothing to go crazy over but better than the other stuff.

The shield is too small, which makes me sad, could have been better looking as a kite shield and not some little oval.

The rest of the weapons are uninspired frankly. The bows look terrible. The sword, terrible, the axe and staff, terrible.

Agree with the shield being too small. On a max size Charr and Norn it looks so awkward.

If I had to guess I would say it probably won’t be out before August but much more likely the end of the year and maybe even early next year.

They did say we’d get a beta test for it before release and they haven’t even said when that is going to be.

We have had one stress-test and one open beta though. Yes, there will be more, but we have seen them already.
We also know that we will get the first specialization information next week (and it will not be Druid) so the information flow might start to speed up.

I would guess we will have a couple of betas in May and then some open ones during the summer, with release in August (unless something major turns up).

I’ve just read the changes they envision for warriors… This is just insane… I was already not bad at all with a warrior, with that I’ll be no less than invincible, both in physical damage and condition damage builds… If it wasn’t on Dulfy, I’d have called many fakes already, some things look incredibly overpowered…

I still have to study other classes to see if the class balance is preserved, but yes, warriors will receive a major buff

You have to remember that all of that stuff is still in early testing. It’s extremely likely a lot of it will be toned down by a fair amount or end up being completely different.

I wouldn’t get too excited until the changes are live.

If that’s true and our new adrenaline mechanic is gonna be a taunt then we need access to protection. Maybe the first warrior specialization will finally give us access to it?

New Party Kicking Mechanic is Unfair!

My friend and I started Arah P2, legitimately duo-ing to see how far we can get.
We got to Lupi and then realized we needed help.
We posted LFG asking for experienced players as in 3k ap or more.
We wanted to finish up because it was near 2am pacific and we shouldn’t have stayed up that late anyway.
3 people join, 2 ele & 1 necro all under 3k ap, I let them know that I really don’t feel up to teaching the run this late at night and can they bring heavy armored classes…
Instead I get voted up for kick by the 3 new people who are apparently friends…
My friend didn’t say anything so they kept him, they died on the way to Lupi (the way point is up, but they’re just so inexperienced that they think they have to run to Lupi from the beginning)
Anyway my friend mentions the fact that they should know to use the way point and they kick him also.
A couple of minutes we notice them standing just outside the dungeon, so I confront them, they say oh yea we just left, sorry for kicking you, want to do the path from the beginning with us….
So my instance I worked so hard for is just lost, because I have no way of holding it.
This is so incredibly unfair, if party kick was still the old way, my friend and I would have kicked them before it got that far, but because there was not 3 of us, we had no rights as dungeon starters ANET PLEASE FIX THIS INJUSTICE!!

The first issue here is that you think only players of a certain arbitrary ap amount are experienced.

Berserker Meta Discussion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: fellyn.5083

fellyn.5083

The “berserker meta” isn’t the the problem. It’s how the enemies work in the game coupled with the fact that bosses are going to get kill you in 1 hit most of the time now matter what kind of gear you’re using.

Make enemies attack faster but for less damage. This way damage mitigation is more effective and punishes people using berserker armor more than someone using Knights.

Bosses need to have less hp but have more varied mechanics to them instead of them relying on large hp pools and big hits. Which is just an artificial difficulty anyways and can be abused quite easily (see stacking in 1 spot and stacking might to burst them down instantly).

That coupled with the defiant mechanic means that you can’t use cc reliably or at all, removing an entire game mechanic and play style from boss fights and makes them dumbed down at the same time. Defiant works the exact opposite of how it should and really is the bane of pve. This mechanic has to go before we ever talk about directly touching the stats on berserker gear (again).

And last but not least people will just gravitate to what is considered the next best. It would be pointless to change stat sets without adjusting any of the above first.

Are warriors as bad as other classes say?

in Warrior

Posted by: fellyn.5083

fellyn.5083

If this truthfully is the case, why would they allow the class to be so bad and not give it buffs?

Because it has been overpowered in pvp for approximately 1 year and as we all know the devs balance mostly for pvp. It’s in a decent spot there atm and it has always been a good profession for WvW. I don’t really care about PVE anymore and therefore I am not gonna comment about it.

Don’t like. It was more like 6-8 months where it was just really strong. Not over powered.

A given. The only question that really needed to be answered was how viable they will be for small guilds.

I shouldn’t have to leave my guild of close personal friends to join a large guild because it will take 100x longer to build a guild hall otherwise.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Another voice crying in the wilderness. The game needs new stuff to do. This does not have to come with a level cap increase. All a level cap increase would do is make people re-do all their max level gear, and make down-leveling even more OP than it already is.

And all the people I talk to in-game don’t want a level cap increase. See what I did there?

Yeah I’m sure the few people you’ve talk to about it represents the majority.

Anyways, Anet has said in the past that they will raise the level cap if they decide they need to, likely in a future expansion.

But at the rate they’re going we’ll never get an expansion so no need to worry.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Wouldn’t capes interfere with any weapons stowed on the back? There were no weapons stowed on the back of characters in GW1, if memory serves me.

Maybe players wouldn’t care about that, though, but it might look odd to see weapons poking through the material of capes.

I’m neither for nor against capes; personally, I rarely wore mine in GW1, and would probably never wear one in this game.

With all the other clipping and errors in this game (that will never get fixed I’m sure) I think that no one who still plays the game would care about this except some particularly anal designer. It CANNOT be the reason we do not have capes it is just so utterly stupid.

I was thinking the same thing. Especially considering all the huge oversized backpacks they just put into the game that obscure armor and cover up weapons.

No, which makes the complaining even less valid as there is always a potential to get one, whereas the nickel is never going to be yours.

And again, the reason the chance is so low is because you are expected to be opening bags for the next year. The design goal was not for everyone to have the mini by the end of the week.

Do you actually believe what you’re saying?

I picked Radiant gear set.. And after seeing the full set with legs and chest i kinda wish i had picked Hellfire. After adding new parts of the set I think it would be fair if we could re-pick the gear we want coz for me the Radiant chest and legs are not for me.

I wanna get that option to change set!

Another thing i wanna agree with are the fact that i soon will get Hellfire hands and not next part of that set i got now. Why the mix

Repicking would be very hard to program, since you get it unlocked in your wardrobe and also have it transmuted on who knows how many equipment pieces. I dont think anet has any way to remove items from your wardrobe or automatically remove skins from items at this time.

Are we supposed to be concerned with what’s hard to program or not? Since they added the complete set after the majority of people already chose multiple pieces it’s only fair to let us repick and keep the previous items we unlocked.

I don’t care how hard something is for them to fix, I only care that they implemented it so poorly to begin with. It’s their problem to fix, no matter if it takes 1 day or 1 year.

Please show us where anet said these are supposed to be long term reward. I’m pretty sure you can’t because they haven’t ever said anything like it.

I’m sure the fact they have high AP requirements isn’t proof enough…

The only thing it’s proof of is the order in which they were added to the game.

I think I spent less time on getting all of the Dry Top achieves + all achievements of the 4 episodes, than on the marionette achievements alone.
It takes only like 1-2 hours (depends a bit on your jumping skills I guess) to collect all the coins on dry top with dulfys guide and replaying all the story instances for the achievements also barely took any effort and mostly completly effortless in a full group.

Marionette, like the Six Minutes to Knightfall, was one of the very few exceptions. Exceptions don’t make rules.

All previous achievements were much easier. But still gave a lot more AP than typical achievements.

I suspect that, come the end of Season 2, we’ll be getting new ‘very time consuming/challenging’ achievements. if you look at the S2 achievements in the Story Journal tab, they reward more and more as the story went on.

It depends on how big the expansion is.

If it’s only 1 new area and of similar size to season 1 living story (which would be disappointing) then yeah, 5000 ap.

But if it’s an expansion comparable in size to ones they made for GW1 then15000 to 20000 ap or more would not seem unrealistic. Those expansions added content in equal size to the prophecies, so basically an entire new game tacked onto it.

We also have to consider that the amount of ap being given out for new achievements has been trending downward since the end of season one. In season one the average achievement gave 5 points. With some giving 50 points and some times more.

GW1 didn’t have an expansion until Eye of the North. Factions and Nightfall were stand-alone campaigns. Basically, they were their own game. Not an expansion.

I’m well aware of that. I’m using the term expansion in a general sense, mostly because GW2 won’t and can’t be getting stand alone campaigns like GW1 did. The design of the game rules that out.

I suspect it’s because ANet thinks that they gave out too many AP during LS1. The amounts they gave out during LS2 are closer to what they feel is now appropriate.

They also don’t want to create the impression that high AP is something that’s only for the rich. If Legendaries gave, say, 25 AP each, then it could open up ANet to accusations that the rich are getting preferred treatment. That’s why the various Black Lion collections give out such a piddly amount of AP.

I don’t think that’s the case at all. I think they’re using it as a way to get people to play more by feeding on obsessive compulsive tendencies and/or addictions.

Because the more people play the more likely they are to spend money.

And also they’ve shown time and time again shown that they clearly don’t think things through one day to the next. This armor set being given out at completely arbitrary ap tiers is example enough of that.

A true expansion better add more than 5000 ap in one go. It should double what’s currently available.

Something else that needs to be done is extend currently available achievements like the ones to kill certain types of mobs. Why do they have such low caps when there are wvw ones that are impossible to get in any amount of time? I always thought that was really strange design choice.

The same goes for the weapon type achievements.

Arent expansions usually smaller than the base game? So I am doubtful that it would double the amount of available AP

And over the 2 years i have been playing i only got 4 precursors.

It is NOT EVEN CLOSE. Precursors are way, WAY, WAY, more rare.

Its easy to get a god darn Gwynefrydd, just spend less time complaining more ingame doing 1h of Lab, 1h of Maize Balm farm, rinse n repeat.

Wow.

Seriously.

Yeah, you only need to open 2million+ bags. You’re not helping your argument at all.

You guys are crying a river making up numbers now? This is EXACTLY why i suggested instead of making senseless noise, if you wanted to make your point more accurate to record the amount of bags opened and make a GD spreadsheet on Google docs to document the drop rate.

So far it seems way closer to 100k, as i said my first one was EXTREMELY unlucky if you can actually read, and the 2nd one was indeed around 100k.

But hey i will leave you at your tantrums and just hope that someday you do put in some thought on getting what you want.

Did you not claim it took you over 1 million bags before you got your first one? Because I’m pretty sure that was you.

Because statistics work with a pool of ONE recorded occurence with no deviation.

GG.

I will give you that I misread the post where you said you got your second one. But it still took you over 1.3m bags to get 2. If your claims a true, a feat that is impossible for the majority of the player base.

I’m not sure how you can, with a straight face, say that it’s “okay” as it is. In fact it feels more like you’re trolling than anything else. Saying anyone who disagrees with the insane rng on an account bound mini pet is crying and the like. Because I’m honestly pretty indifferent to the entire thing. But I have friends who do want them, but they have pesky things like school and work to deal with instead of being able to play video games for 6+ hours a day.

In fact the more you post about them more you sound like a brat.

But it’s all good, you’ve got 2. Everyone else who doesn’t have time to play 6+ hours a day to farm bags just has to deal with it.

I think a scavenger hunt type quest (like some of the recent backpieces) for the Legs and or Chest that opens up once you obtain the Boots of a set wouldn’t be a horrible idea.

Maybe only allow ONE set to be obtained like that (and the other would require to current AP levels). I can’t blame them for having some insane reward incentive to keep AP “enthusiasts” in the game….

That’s all good and well but the only reason they are in the order they are in is because that is the order in which they were added to the game.

And my motives are something like: I think it’s extremely silly that we’re nowhere near a single full set of these armors being accessible to even one player at the very top of the achievement totem pole. And I feel the design of making you go through both sets to get one complete is a sloppy remnant of slow implementation that would probably have been examined already (who knows, maybe it has) were it not for the numerous other more pressing issues that they’re dealing with.

Would the same argument be occurring if the only reward involved was a title?

I began GW1 over a year after it’s launch. It took me a full year to reach the first tier of GWAMM. Getting any more max titles seemed so impossibly far off I pretty much wrote them off. It surprised me, later on, how fast I ended up earning the additional titles to reach the tier I have today.

My point is that more content will come. ArenaNet seem to have learned their lesson about temporary content, meaning all this new LS is permanent, and the achievement points will be there to be gained ad infinitum. I think you underestimate how quickly AP will end up being gained, even by casual players. If players cannot get past the “I want it now” train of thought, perhaps they should go off for a couple of years, come back when most players are on 45k AP, and scoop up all the new achievement points then. The problem is, there will just be a new tier of rewards which will undoubtedly annoy them even more!

I’m not so much “pro-exclusivity” as I am “pro-marker of achievement”. A title is nice and all, but that feeling of finally earning your first full set of Radiant/Hellfire gear and walking around LA in it for a day will be supreme. After that it can be consigned to the Wardrobe as those skins are not particularly my taste anyway.

You need to re-examine your argument, or at least read what people are talking about. No one is asking for it right now. They’re simply asking for it to reorganized in an order that makes sense.

You also have to realize that there is an entire year and a half of ap new players cannot get ever again that all the people at the top of the ap leaderboards got. Which puts these sets even further out of reach for new players. And not only that but new achievements on average are giving less ap as well.

They weren’t just added to the game files. They were added to the game. And no one is saying they need to be accessible immediately, just that they need to be accessible at all.
