So the ability to do exactly what people have been demanding since release does not matter because people don’t want to do it in that specific game-mode?
Why could one question then?
Do they want gear and such to actually matter, since they prefer to do it in WvW (without the major part of Guild Lord)?
Is it actual GW1 GvG they want, as they always seems to claim, or is it something else?
~snip~
….the flexibility offered by WvWvW….
You did read my comment. Right? As for your second question, there’s two years worth of suggestions/demands/pleas of what the community wanted out of GvGs in GW 2 (so check that out if you care to). What they got was a sectioned off corner of a jumping puzzle map to face opponents limited by their current WvWvW match. But hey, this CDI might be it! Stay positive lordkrall.
This is part of the population imbalance solution :P
If enough people sit around in towers, servers with lesser population might, might look better on the scoreboard. No need to actually revamp anything major!
I have never claimed that it was groundbreaking. I simply showed that it is fully possible to get almost an exact replica of the GvG mode from Guild Wars 1 in this game right now.
Let’s not play word games and put words into people’s mouths(and dodge the rest of my comment apparently). My point is that if these players found sPvP to be more attractive than the flexibility offered by WvWvW then GvGs would have taken off there, doubt you would have been the one to think of it now.
And while people wait for GvG there is always the ability to create your own (that mimics GW1s version quite well).
1: Put score-limit on max (1000 points)
2: Put time-limit on max (30 minutes)
3: Put only Legacy of the Foefire in the queue
4: End the match when one team kills the other teams Guild Lord
5: GW1 GvG emulation complete.
Err this isn’t exactly some ground breaking suggestion.
“And while people wait for GvG …”
It’s been two years and quite frankly this comment demonstrates exactly why a lot of the competitive people got bored and or frustrated and ditched this game(and most likely for good).
stuff
Disclaimer. These are my opinions. I don’t pretend to speak for anyone but myself.
“It punishes commanders who are diligently watching the mini-map and trying to make intelligent decisions based on what the map tells them”
Instead, the OP wants to punish commanders who are excellent leaders and able to organize effective scouts from a disciplined player base …
…..
I stopped reading there.
/facepalm
Why are there so many 98 year old crusties on these forums. Everyone should be open to small changes here and there just to see how things play out and what we can learn from them. Will trying out one week of no white swords really kill everyone and their families? Will the world be set ablaze? Will we all instantly be impregnated? One or two weeks. Give it a try. Then give feedback.
I agree, but I fear that the players will make this a self-fulfilling prophecy – that for two weeks they will refuse to even try. We’ll see, but I am still confident they will be proven foolish in their cynicism. I expect full and frank apologies from each and every one of you afterwards!
I laughed reading this. The whole idea of “trials periods” for features is funny seeing as how they’ve had so many people playing and testing their game for over two years who’ve provided commonly themed paragraphs of thoughts and suggestions and Anet has just carried on doing their own thing while tossing out dead end CDI threads and canned corporate responses. Nah, but this is the one, this time, now that the mode has declined to within an inch of it’s life it’ll be different! Pinky swear!
To all the people saying “It gives small groups a chance to take towers”. Really? Is that what you want? To kill a door and a few NPCs then pat yourselves on the back? Whether it’s helping small teams or zergs(and it will) it’s still promoting PvDoor. Your 5 man group flips and empty tower and the zerg steamrolls it back 5 minutes later, not even in GW2’s meager scheme of things did your actions matter, gg.
@ OP
I like how you’re signing like you’re speaking for WvWvW players. Stop telling people how they should find their fun as they have zero obligation to you. You died in a video game big whoop.
I see a pattern here. Anet announces a really dumb feature. Players rage. Anet retracts plans and offers scraps. Players rejoice that Anet listens and thinks the scraps are a banquet. All is well until staleness becomes apparent again. Less people play. Rinse and repeat.
Transferring for a change of scenery delays the inevitable, the game is broken. I’m sure many contacts lists are greying out these days thanks to Season 3 and the release of another hyped MMO.
…
Keep in mind I’m discussing players leaving for the purpose of finding a better WvW environment, not leaving for the desire to play with friends,….
Then my situation is an intersection of these. I joined my (former)guild on BP after they came from NSP, we decided on a then T2 TC because we raided late and were stuck in PvDoor matches, raids got boring and short. Transferring had to happen, some buff wouldn’t have made us stay when all we wanted was fun and regular fights. It’s been months since I kept track of who wins the week, I’ve met new people and learned new things, I’m not here to be some quasi-celebrity so I don’t feel like I’ve lost anything, actually I feel like I’ve gained. If I couldn’t transfer, I would’ve been done with GW2 sooner, I don’t care enough about an arbitrary thing such as the performance of game server to make such sacrifices for it. Yes, whether it’s a trickle or a mass departure, transfers can hit PPT a blow but since I don’t use PPT as a gauge for a good time, I’m inclined to be in favor of transfers because it keeps people playing—wherever they decide to play.
Probably because people would QQ about not being on the top server…
Because they don’t stop to think that if they join a lower tier server, that they could be the change that boosts it to the top.
Quite frankly, people don’t care about being competitive when it comes to PPT. They seem to only care about the “easy wins” – that is, the server that pulls ahead by 50k points on the weekends.
But hey, with how people are being raised today – ie, getting a medal for just participating in RL – I can’t say I’m surprised. It’s created a generation of entitled feeling bums who hitch rides on the coattails of others.
A hint of bitterness and a lot assumptions there. Yes, people go where the grass is greener, it’s not some kind of “kids these days!” thing, the game designers know this too. Some people might like the small server experience and that’s fine, while others would prefer to hop in whenever they want and plug into a whatever activity because there are people to be found pretty much around the clock or specifically in their timezone, so let’s not demonize said people. PPT as we know it was never competitive and Anet decided it was a good idea to attach rewards to it. I don’t think it’s reasonable to jab at random people’s upbringing instead of criticizing the game’s poor design and management.
SFR were fighting with Vizunah for top EU spot for ages while still a medium populated server.
My head is out of the sand… you need to stop qq and making excuses for losing.
Lawl at this.
Logged into the game maybe 4 times in the past month to dead maps from a complete blowout, I’ve been more active in this subforum(which has decreased a lot). Seasons might enchant some new PvE blood at the cost of annoying and burning out vets but they too will probably sour once they realize what WvWvW is. I think the seasons suck on a massive level, I was barely hanging on after S2 and this season(plus the commander tag debacle and just the weak patch in general) just finished the job.
Why does it have to be positive? Especially given the sorry state of the game.
This whole thread …what?
Loot scaling according to participation? Good luck with that. I can bet money that the majority of the people left playing WvWvW don’t care about loot, or they wouldn’t keep playing the mode with the poorest compensation in the entire game(they can just go to EotM for exp/loot farming). It’s mostly other players keeping players here and most of the people I know who left are not coming back in any meaningful capacity(hint~ it wasn’t the loot that turned them away) and people are leaving together. Also, it’s probably too late to try to spread an already thin population to all these servers(not that things still couldn’t get lopsided anyway). Anet blew their chance.
What are you talking about? You came in second last week. You beat SBI so you get the more difficult match.
Yes but we still get YB. If we are to get a difficult match, that’s fine by me. But I’d rather it be against another server.
What’s wrong with YB?
I don’t attack uplevels(If you’re about fights, then there’s nothing in that for you), other than that its on. I sometimes just down them and keep moving if they actually fight back and really try even though they clearly have clue what they’re doing. The ones who insist on running? No mercy, especially the ones who get brave only when their allies show up.
Enemy map completionists are still that, enemies. The WvWvW anonymity probably furthers the “othering” of people beyond the typical internet state but I don’t think WvWvW should be a place where you can just jump, wave then get safe passage.
Honestly, I think they should have put more vistas and PoIs in WvWvW just none in towers and keeps. That way its still doable on a personal level while being “at risk” for PvP.
Oooookay, its easy to see the usual B.S. people post to explain why they lose. It can’t be theirs of course. I do know that playing smart will beat mindless. I read some guy insist that a 5 man sieged equiped keep can’t be held against 70 zerg. Maybe, maybe not. I can testify that one of my guildies in YB held off a 30+ zerg w/ 6 golems BY HERSELF. Yepper, she had an AC and a treb. They died. (you wanna say I lie? I will give your name to her. She will chew you a new one) YB wins cause we play smart. We learn and teach what we learn to the rest of our server. I will not say a high pop isn’t an advantage. Even then you can make them bleed. and get bags at your feet while using a siege engine. In other words guys learn to use the weapons you have and NEVER give up anything without a fight! Good Luck on your season.
Emphasis mine.
Yes I know, if siege weapons were food, YB could end world hunger.
But seriously though, I understand, YB does hold PPT but I remember just wanting the matchups to end. It was just pugs on loads and loads of siege. Roaming and guild raids were dead in the water. Don’t get me wrong, defense is good. Going apekitten with siege to the point where you keep PPT high enough to continue being matched against realms with enough of a population to make you turtle in even further then bore and annoy them into leaving your stuff alone? Not so much.
They could make unique golem models….
Gem shop siege skins has been suggested a while ago, a good long time ago. Commander tag skins, all kinds of cosmetic stuff.
Other than WvWvW, I don’t find anything else in GW2 enjoyable. I used to buy gems quite a bit but that has come to an end. My roaming account on BG has been catching dust(we are now playing AA), I log off my TC GvG/Raid account as soon as I know there are no GvGs. Hubby’s two accounts are also catching dust. It’s become depressing to log in.
There are those among us who’d like to believe that since these Anet employees are now on their roster and voice comms that somehow after two years they’re the special snowflakes that are in the loop about all the great and wonderful things in the pipes for WvWvW. GW2’s combat is great, hands down and I’d love to eat crow if it receives steady, well planned and executed updates(major changes, not another 3 tag colors in a year) but I have a pretty good idea what’s in store for WvWvW.
I’m sorry but if you’re one of these season “let’s take shifts commanding, no GvGs until we’re ahead in PPT” try hards then you’re part of the reason why Anet can cuddle up to their stupid metrics, pat themselves on the back and keep releasing these lame seasons as if they were content. The rewards are kitten and its the same horribly imbalanced game. What’s your excuse for giving a kitten.
Ok great, TC is comprised of superior players than T2. You guys are better and it’s not the fact that Mag is a completely dead server and FA doesn’t have any non NA primetime coverage at all. You’re up by 600 points per tick because you guys are just better.
I never said we had superior players, so please quit putting words into my post; I find that quite rude. Even uplevels can put siege disrupters on rams/cats, and as I have said you only need a small presence even if off hours to defend what you have (at very least your keeps). The only thing lacking is the will to hold what is yours. Either way I will be spending my week in PvE getting a few ’cheves because nothing bores me more that an enemy unwilling to show up.
That is what you implied. Going on about being in comms, walking yaks and what the players choose to do is very much talking about them personally and not whatever characters they happen to be on. No T2 server has the coverage to take on any T1 server. At this point it’s like you’re trying to con people into showing up to a no fun, no win situation to entertain you.
I uploaded this pic in another thread recently, we were ticking 620 at like 1am pacific. How many uplevels tossing anti siege grenades you think died defending that?
People complain when they get the same matchup over and over again against servers as close to their strength as possible. Now they complain when the variety they asked for gives them blowout matches.
Never ending cycle.
So pretty much….
It’s entirely the player base that made these matchups exist.
If people understood that you are supposed to loose objectives and loose fights from time to time, ET would on occasion face blackgate and stale matchups would be no more.
Can’t tell if serious. The only time you’re supposed to “lose” any objective is if the enemy can take it. Losing to massage your enemy into keep playing is a sign that something is very wrong.
First night on a non-OS map since season 3 started and this is what I found. Reset night. Waypoints going up in enemy BLs. Are you guys having fun?
It’s not that siege on walls gets destroyed easily, everything on walls get destroyed easily. Many player weapon AoEs can coat the entire surface while a six inch lip causes LoS issues for people trying to attack from the walls. It’s stupid and it’s always been stupid.
Yes. Pvp in the normal Pve maps all the way.
I’ve been playing LineageII for the longest times myself now. The pvp system of that game is brilliant in so many ways. The only problem that would need to get addressed first is pk’ing low-level guys.
Thats no fun and ruins the game, much like rifting ruined AION even though the concept of it was awesome.
Flagging yourself for PvP similarly to Lineage II was what I had it mind and not a situation where you could accidentaly AoE someome to death during a boss fight. I would be like the PvE maps with the option to PvP.
Aion’s rifting system was great. At the time when I left, what ruined rifting was the 80 percent defense boost against rifters because people complained about being killed by geared characters their level(instead of banding together or calling one of those bored level capped players who patrol lower level zones). It pretty much guaranteed safe PvE and untouched bots on most maps. But quests still sent unsuspecting levelers through rifts to kill enemies. I don’t know what they were thinking.
Not holding out hope for any worthwhile GW2 PvP development outside of sPvP, which I don’t play. And at this point, I don’t think there are enough PvP focused players still interested in GW2 to support such a mode.
I think we can all agree that if ANET would remove downstate and/or rally mechanic then guilds probably wouldn’t care as much.
Too true. Killing an uplevel pug should not rally 5 – 10 people or whatever it is. Someone said anyone who hit the person will get back up… Keep it to just banners, multiple skills, and rub rubs… isn’t that enough?
Yes, if you so much as sneeze on someone and they die during that “in combat” session, you rally.
GW2’s combat was not designed with WvWvW in mind. In PvE, rallying makes for an easy going, forgiving experience, it’s a non issue when fighting NPCs with scripted behavior. In sPvP, since the teams are so small, it can add an intense layer to a skirmish(eSports!). In big WvWvW fights, it serves as an additional advantage to having more numbers(a 5 target AoE limit makes things worse).
simply because incompetent people tend to stack on already stacked servers with looking for ‘better fights’ excuses.
human nature i guess
Or some people want to play on servers that have activity outside of a narrow time window?
Anyways, GW2 will continue to get these ridiculous seasons because it’s the cheapest “content” Anet will muster.
Combat is balanced around sPvP and PvE, WvWvW is the dumping ground for the fallout of those design choices. See perplexity, dire, ascended gear and consumables. Then there’s the 5 target AoE limit. It means nothing in PvE when it’s 40 people hitting a boss and a few adds or in sPvP small teams but in WvWvW…well yeah people have been complaining about that for a while. WvWvW is a tacked on activity.
I mostly stopped playing WvW due to some seriously toxic commanders, screaming on TS/ vent at people, demanding others get on TS/Vent all while at the same time kicking others off TS/Vent, belittling people on map chat, untagging and demanding the zerg follow them untagged, then crying at the players when they don’t follow,
Commanders who now only run tagless in WvW or only with there guilds, or who sit on TS/Vent in there own little channel with there buddies,
And you think EOTM is killing WvW, you so far wrong its not even funny, EotM is a nice break, where you get 1 or maybe 2 people tag up, run around and cap ( sure K train ) but with ZERO drama,
Also ive seen some T1 guilds running around EotM recently as a guild group, no doubt tagless,
I used to love running in WvW with the massive battles on T1 etc, but it gets boring listening to a commander who is just hostile towards everyone, or commanders that do a lot of talking then only run tagless with there buddies, then cry that WvW is dead, all this ends up with people leaving and not bothering to return.
You should also be very careful about what you wish for, as if Anet decide to nerf karma etc by 80% in eotm and leave it alone in WvW, where do you think all them ppl are going to go K train, you will be back on here after such an update crying that there is an 100 person Q because the PvE’rs are K Training in your BL, if you don’t play EOTM don’t worry about it, I play WvW and EotM and I can tell you its far from EotM doing the damage to WvW.
Seems like the main issue is that your playstyle involves falling in behind any random large group of people to cap stuff and that’s not really possible when pug commanders get upset or when players decide to WvWvW with guildmates only. Tag up often or join a WvWvW guild.
It’s not really a guild raid if you have an open public tag. Some guilds prefer to run alone, they would rather fight with smaller more organised numbers, than massive unorganized messes. Then fighting is killing enemy players that could have done something else, it’s not like these guilds you speak of just sit afk in spawn. You don’t have to have everybody on the map flock to one tag.
^ This. Some people want to put the builds they crafted, the communication and tactics they practiced to the test as a unit and would prefer not having every uplevel and player running terrible PvE builds glob onto them just to counter cheever blobs.
I don’t understand this. Why not just play as normal players and join guilds? Announcing it just makes you into a target for all the built up frustration at how the game mode has been handled(I can bet money you will be quickly made to feel uncomfortable and end up bowing out). I know new games are coming out and you now need to appear involved but I can’t fathom what will come out of this.
What’s really going to stop Omegas? Just have someone fling a siege grenade at the cannons until they go down.
Get a necro with spectral wall, stalk the orange swords and troll people off ledges in EotM.
Warrior banner is still used in guild raids, zerg fights and GvGs, bannering dead NPCs was only a fraction of it’s use.
And yes Plague>Tornado. Everyday all day.
I would like to swap out an elite for a utility but since the patch, my lowbies on my alt account have to wait til level 40 instead of 30 before I can even get one so yay!
Eh I don’t think it’s the extra colors, I think it’s because of a patch release period. Right now they’re a vanity item and people are tagging up just because. When account bound colors become normal in a month or two then we’ll see how handy they are.
I like the idea of defining the tag colors. However, what color does what should strictly be at the discretion of the server. That way when an enemy sees a colored tag he thinks: Is that a tower busting zerg? Or just a large interferance zerg? Wait, small group with a yellow tag. Scout? or havoc?
It has been my experience that enemies cannot see each other’s commander tags.
Good point. Although I never really looked for a tag, when trying to stay alive in a zerg battle. Either way, it should be server specific instead of a standard.
On a side note, it doesn’t matter if you’re ranged or melee, it’s a major boon to know where the commander/driver is at all times on the battlefield so you can position yourself according to your function. If not then the front line becomes scattered, the sqishies explode and that’s probably a wipe.
They’re annoying not necessarily because of the damage, it’s the range in addition to that and the fact that projectiles can still hit even if technically out of range. A decently timed reflection skill and some retal upkeep will kitten them though. Guardian wall of reflections are going to be mandatory til the Ranger trend blows over in a few weeks when they realize the class is a one trick pony.
Sorry guys, purple is of the official ktrain color.
It’s now unlocked at level 22. Seriously, what was the point in that?! lol
The good fights are those which last hours on end, without either side bannering the lord non stop.
…
Yeah…and they often happen because the lord kept getting bannered…
… (Players will have to watch objectives closer to avoid waiting until swords pop to respond.)
Sounds like fun!
The anti-siege grenades are game breaking and annoying.
Shouldn’t be there in the first place but on top of that it’s AoE. It’s a terrible, terrible idea.Tried to get a keep, literally the rams for a few hits and were disabled 95% of the time until destroyed. …..
…
Oh God, this made me lol. I was kittened off that the level requirement for Ele earth attunement unlock was increased(to who really knows) but this strangely made me laugh. I pretty much knew the anti siege grenades were a baaaad idea but hey, esports!
The “No bannering” change isn’t a good change. I’m sorry that there are people on servers with 6 people trying to take keeps but whats good for the goose isn’t necessarily good for the gander. Medium ground would have been to give the lord some kind of rez sickness;less and less hp each banner(3 times?) until it dies and there’s a cooldown 10 min cooldown when it can be bannered again, but it still can be manually rezzed. Even then, banners were not the problem, Warriors were. Necros and Eles could “banner” but they couldn’t just face roll and be immune to everything while doing so. This isn’t going to make people want to sit around more and watch structures. There will probably be less and less people who give a kitten but the charts and metrics will look great when all the PvE AP hunters drop in for S3 so it’s a success!
I think it’s unlocked at level 30(I never found any mention of the new level requirement). I’m only guessing, my lowbie(level 38) on my main account has it. I’ve been playing this game since beta and I don’t understand this change at all. People aren’t dummies, after you select an *Element*alist and gotten through unlocking air attunement, why would anyone be confused or overwhelmed by an earth option? I play primarily WvWvW and it’s bad enough I get the shaft with the revamped trait system but now I don’t even have magnetic aura to keep all these kittening Rangers off me, even if for a short while. Two steps forward and three steps back, the story of GW2.
Yeah it’s pretty much “cleave until dead” right now. I’m still wasting time instinctively stomping.
Thanks, I checked the class notes and not the leveling guide. Another decision by Anet that leaves me scratching my head. Great.
I know I had it when I was grinding levels in EotM last night. I have all the staff and dagger skills unlocked and now the option to switch to earth attunement is just not there. I didn’t see anything in the notes about that so I’m taking it as unintentional.
