Anet does the best they can. You can’t blame them for hardware that can’t handle all the data coming in. Servers have limitations and so does your mind.
Hang on sec!!
They developed this game and then sold it…You don’t sell something that your own kitten hardware can’t handle.
If you bought a house that was built on dodgy foundations and started to subside would you say “Well the builders did the best they could”?.
Lol precisely! A mass PvP mode that cannot handle the player cap doing…mass PvP. Yeah, this is totally reasonable.
Because it was a one week event, it deserves no comment? There were a number of exploits and buggy deployment and noting these events could be valuable information for the next time they plan something of the sort. There are certain things that I don’t want to see happen again. So I reject the notion that this topic is restrained to a single week.
Anyhow, a brief note about the event itself, a description, or something about what they perceived as results. Otherwise, why bother?
People have asked for comments on all content from gem store purchases to the next living story event, after all.
The opposite applies to your question if you ask me. Why does it “deserve” a comment? With all of the bias demand, and the ridiculously rude way multiple poster find a way to make threads around twisting every comment in every post they make here, What do you want them to say?
For that matter, what would saying anything change?
Because they’re in the business of people pleasing and many people were everything but pleased. Clamming up does nothing to improve an already battered relationship. Plus it’s one of the only “events” WvWvW has gotten in a long time IIRC so why not at least acknowledge the people using your product. It’s called PR. It can go a long way.
I feel mislead by this title >.>. With the problems plaguing WvWvW, I find this to be a “meh” feature that still won’t allow me to care who wins the match. What else ya got?
Is lordkrall still arguing semantics about only versus predominantly?
LOL…yes <sigh>
Nobody can “only” play WvWvW for a couple reasons:
- You can’t go from character selection directly into WvWvW so just on that technicality alone
- WvWvW gold gains are so abysmal that players are forced to PvE or RMT (legit or otherwise)
- Some do go to sPvP because well..its some kinda PvP after all
I’m sure there are many who only want to play WvWvW but can’t (me!). You’d have to you know, communicate with the playerbase because pie charts can’t tell you that.
….snip
If you don’t want us in your game then say so and we will find something else to do with our free time.
No because then you’ll take your gem shop money with you and there will be less streams and Youtube videos that resonate with other potential GW2 players and their soft, plump wallets.
ANet keeps listening to the PvE players and buffed conditions for some reason when it should’ve been hard nerfed instead.
As much as I hate what happened and is happening to roaming and WvWvW in general, I don’t see a fix for the combat system unless WvWvW gets separate (and well developed!) rules from PvE. Even then, with the open nature of the maps and varying fight sizes, creating any semblance of balance will still probably be out of reach. I guess that they wanted to give PvEers something other than a zerker meta, as if the issue wasn’t that the PvE is shallow and predictable but nope more condi stacks and stuff!
I like this change – I didn’t sell out my friends and server mates to transfer to a stacked server. without being able to buy off players from low tier servers how are you tier one blobbers going to compete with people who play wvw for more than just shineys. players who win even when outnumbered, without allies. how are you going to keep your troops morale up when you start getting facestomped by players who get things done with far far less people. give the guys on low tiers a little manpower and you guys are gonna be toast. no wonder you’re complaining. lets see the “skill” of tier one players when their tactics and strategies have to be completely reevaluated because they can’t just blob everything to death. not to mention you filled your ranks with people motivated by greed and self service. when the going gets tough will they stick around??
funny how the tier one guys look “down” on lower tier servers – those lower tier loyalist have more grit in one roamer than the entirety of your mega blobs. you should continue to cry cry cry without being able to buy your population anet pretty much signed your death certificate. that’s the crux of your issue – those of you complaining. what NOW
You have such a bizarre and bitter image of higher tier players. Some people transfer up because their guild mates/friends matter more than some vague server team score and also because of the timezone they play. But you’d rather apply a catch all label such as “blobbers” and “bandwagoners.” People allowed themselves to be “bought” (this gets thrown around way too much IMO) because they wanted to leave your server. For a patriot, acknowledging that probably stings and that goes back to my first sentence.
P.S
Since we’re throwing out anecdotes and opinions, I know players who’ve went on lower tier vacations and stomped others there 3v1. I’ve seen lower tier guild raids that would absolutely get destroyed by higher tier havoc groups. And I’ve seen it in reverse. With the rate at which players transfer around, I’m surprised people are still buying into this ridiculous stereotype. And yes everything, and I mean everything in GW2 can be blobbed to death, Anet made sure of that.
Demolish that cramped sPvP mess in the middle of the map and bring back the Quaggans.
1. Dodge. Dodge. Dodge.
2. If mesmer, use moa on thieves.
3. If not a mesmer or thief, use stealth traps.
4. Channelled spell skills will continue to target the mes/thief even while invis. Use them.
5. Dodge.
Wait what? What Mes/Thief is going to allow you to sit there and plant stealth traps? :x
I think you’re ridiculous. I’ll buy an extra copy to make up for you. A week “in gaming” is nothing. There’s life outside of video games. I had a blast.
Well buy 5 more copies then! But if I’m being honest, my desire to play has been diminishing for months and from what I’ve seen of the WvWvW aspect of the expansion, it looks rather unimpressive.
It wasn’t golem week per se, I think it’s fine to do something silly and fun, however, after the WvWvW player/dev relationship was left to sour over the span of a couple years, I think this was a bad move and it sums up the callous way the mode has generally been handled.
Probably the most fun I had during this entire event.. So many golems went BOOM!!
Woah that looks like a blast!
It was fun till they decided they were not going to take our keep and gave up
Because you know… Dragonbrand.
/snicker
Yeah…it’s a bit much at the moment. The burst on my Mes is kinda crazy. That’s something I liked about the original GW, the fights were better paced and you could reason your moves more. Right now the fights are over really really fast.
—original post—
I gotta say, the opening message is condescending. There have been numerous threads since launch filled with constructive feedback. People have spent time participating in CDIs and even waiting around for other CDIs that were supposed to happen but never did. Do you really think you’re the first to think of this approach? The answer is no. You’re essentially asking people to keep bowing their heads with hat in hand and make requests of those who are quite content to ignore them. That tends to get you a token here and there with little meaningful change. Kinda like what we’ve been getting so far!
And here’s the thing. In a world saturated with electronic entertainment, people still care enough about this mode to be frustrated and continually voice their opinion. Even at its height when community organized GvGs were getting more attention than sponsored sPvP events, Anet still didn’t capitalize on it. Even when you have commanders queuing maps and hordes of people running around, nope still clawing at that MOBA pie. People getting mad about the neglect in comparison with other modes is understandable. I think its dismissive to label this as just being “negative.” Still, I doubt we’re such a scary bunch, I’m quicker to believe we haven’t heard much about big WvWvW changes since launch simply because their business model makes WvWvW a low priority.
“Show Anet how valuable WvWvW players are.”
What do you think the people who stream raids, roaming and those who edit together great videos that manage to make WvWvW (a mode riddled with problems) look fun are doing? The players themselves have put so much in place for WvWvW, things like voice communications for the various servers and even sites for current scoring and match up trash talk, GvGs and some have created add ons for objective timers/live maps etc. The raw materials and passion were there for an eSports scene, it just needed fostering. They tossed aside many teams of 15 and 20 to focus on teams of 5, lol, talk about a missed opportunity. At this moment Runescape has 5x more viewers on Twitch TV. Rune—->scape. But even as far as GW2 goes, most times I’ve seen, the channel with most views is raiding in WvWvW. I’ll see what HoT brings to WvWvW and the GvG scene but I’m not pre-ordering.
Free for all unless in same party or guild! Think of it as compensation for Golem Rush Week :P
I kinda feel like WvWvW players at this point are like a married man’s mistress who still believes he’ll leave his wife even though they just bought a new house. Make some other arrangements folks. :P
@OP:
lol. If someone decides NOT to buy a game due to a 1 week event, I think they are just making an excuse instead of playing with you.
Or maybe a red flag got raised that the people in charge will continuously do dumb stuff like this so they’d rather not spend their money?
yup, or just put my server JQ in tier 3/5/6/8 (for example), but yeah, modify the glicko ratings xD
Do you want to tick 600+ all the time and have nothing to do? …
Pretty sure that JQ would be more than happy with that.
You…you’re pretty alright.
So, one specific person on Server A has figured out that that he can easily sweep Server B in the early morning hours, as in 2am-7am EST, and that person happens to be a commander on Server A. This one specific person also happens to stay awake for three days straight at the end of every week, ensuring that everything we work for early in the week is for nothing. This person often build golems and sits on them until our dead time to make it as easy as possible.
I’m not saying competition is bad, but to flip the score on the last day because no one is on…that’s pretty kittenty and demoralizing for everyone that tried. Our server is full, and even if it wasn’t, it’s not like an EU or Asian guild is just going to decide to come to Server B for coverage during this time frame.
inb4 tears
inb4 anything non-constructiveSo what can you do?
Nothing to cope with really. Express a brief moment of pity for the guy who’s butt is probably slowly becoming a part of his chair. Play something else. Read a book. Do something with somebody. Go see a terrible movie. Anything.
Either buy the ridiculously priced upgrade extractors from the gem shop or toss the gear. And that ladies and gentlemen is why badge gear is garbage.
Roaming is pretty bad at the moment. Waaaaay too much overall damage rolling out right now. Finding decent fights was hard enough, now whatever you find is over a lot faster. It’s pathetically boring.
Once expansion hit in and guild halls start to roll, are we gonna be able to play WvW properly?
To enter battlegrounds fight and kill any guys with red names over their heads, to capture and defend towers and keeps, to use siege and roam around, to be organized in small or big groups, to have your guild go out and play WvW to defend place we claimed with any means necessary, without any judgement.
To do all that without having bunch of “veterans” “guilds” “guild leaders” “pro mad skillz (watch me on twitch) roamers” bashing at you, cursing you and telling you not to do all that because you add up in 1vs1, interrupt their duels, gvg’s, scrimms, because you are danger that server might win matchup and rise up in rank, _________________________ type in all other stupid reasons.
Once upon a time WvW was place where u played with your team, helped you team, played for win, where u fought and killed reds with your team members. Now all i see is WvW turning into personal battlegrounds for individuals where team players are liability.
I just hope that people who dont want to play wvw can take thier duels, gvg’s, scrimms to some other place like guild hall arenas and leave wvw to those that want to play it like it was meant to.
And please rename this http://www.gw2wvw.net/ to http://www.gw2gvg.net/ ty bye
Give you what back? You fooled yourself into believing it was “yours” to begin with.
I actually didn’t see any mention of GvG, of any kind. Just some “Combat Arena”, kind of like we already have in Obsidian Sanctum; is that what everyone’s talking about? We will now be able to have informal, private Death-Matches, with no scoring, no leaderboards, no spectator mode… is that what we’re calling GvG now? We can already do that in WvW, I thought… I guess with Guild Halls, we won’t have to be in the same Tier as the guilds we fight against. Is that all the GvG support we get for $50, tho? I don’t get why anyone is excited about this, tbh.

I can understand how server stacking can cause lopsided matches but Wvw tournmaent in NA at least was incredibly enjoyable – Specially T1.
All 3 servers fought extremely hard and the victor was not decided until the very last week.
Wat?
…..
Well to be honest, you’re on ET, which is arguably in the poorest shape of all the low tier servers.
Check during EU prime. Get that autoclicker up and running or your friend is gonna have a bad time.
Because of the absence of these features for so long I think the WvW community now looks at the difficulty of managing these as one of the things that separates the skillful from the newer player in WvW and not something lacking in the game.
I don’t think having a few people only look at the map as something that is skillful but as a boring thing someone is required to do. Why do people need to even be dedicated to looking at the map? Because the devs have neglected that aspect and you guys seem to be complacent with having a few people just stare at a map for several hours. That sounds like kitten work to me, not something “skillful” players do. Please, can someone indulge me with how “skillful” it is to look at a map and relay information?
It’s not skillful. Just like in real life, some pretty kitteny stuff becomes normal or even respectable if it sticks around long enough. These kinds of “boring” activities are part of “winning” in WvWvW. I’m afraid this is just the beginning of your annoyance my friend lol.
There is no raid UI because there is no traditional class trinity and actual raid content. In PvE and often in WvWvW, large fights devolve into balling up on a commander tag and rolling over anything with a red nameplate then collecting loot – the mechanics encourage this low effort approach. GW2’s combat is designed with small, MOBA style fights in mind (sPvP) and the grouping options reflect that, even though people have been asking for a better commander HUD and more functionality for some time now.
Basically nothing.
And that is exactly why its a cheesy tactic which should be fixed. I can understand any commander who gives up on commanding because of this sniping.
Me too. That is why sniping is an excellent strategy. Not only do you win fights, but you also demotivate the enemy. That is how wars are won.
“Demotivate”? So you don’t have anything to fight? Lol terrific!
Honestly, it’s a matter of sportsmanship. While there are steps to deal with pin snipe, it’s a shame when blobs use it on smaller teams.
Whats the focus of WvW?
Some say it’s the commanders.
I see what you did there. :P
I’m on Maguuma, and I’m considering transferring to JQ. Fights were fun on my server, but with the new match, it completely changed everything. Night time runs are non-existent now. The SBI server has such a large presence at the time I play, that they own all four maps. I see other Maguuma players trying to fight, and then I see 50 enemy attackers just run over them from the side. Someone said in chat that they call that a K Train.
I researching other servers, I found that JQ has a good size night force that I could enjoy. I was talking to some JQ players on voice chat, they said that TC and BG double team them, so it’s no fun.
My question is why do people hate JQ so much? I don’t know if it’s fair to have two other servers gang up on you.
1. Our guild just came down to Mag from BG because unfortunately T1 has congealed into stagnant stew of blob or nothing, doesn’t matter if you’re raiding or just trying to roam. JQ does the same thing you’re complaining about, just on a larger scale.
2. Everybody thinks they’re getting double teamed as soon as a group takes an opportunity to sneak in some PvDoor for PPT. Actual 2v1ing comes with a price (looking at you S2 T1 NA).
…
We look for points, not fights. Pure fights are for PVP
….
O.k now I hate your server too and I’m not even in EU.
Why even bother with NA! Just come over the pond to EU, we’ll show you a good time.
We’ll teach you how to be a pirate! We’ll show you how many Ultimax Denominators we have! We’ll even show you how organised and extremely effective our night trains are!
Our national servers are the true kings of PPT over here in EU. Germans have siege warfare downpat. The french are the best PPT’ers in the world. And the international servers are filled to the brim with the most hardcore kitten PK overlords!
We trump NA anyday. If I say so myself.
:^)
That right there is probably the more sure fire way not to have someone give you a chance lol :P
Probably playing in a dead timezone or on a dead server in general or your server runs tagless guild groups?
its quite widely rumored that BG and JQ have guilds with access to both servers and they decide who gets 1st place every week.
Is this true? because it seems like TC only gets first if BG and JQ allows it.
at least thats what the rumor says.
T1 NA has become a pretty incestuous place. Servers being full means it’s going to stay that way. Yay game health!
How does one balance in any way a realm vs realm vs realm mode that spans multiple maps with 24/7 vulnerable objectives and week long scoring played by a global community with a range of personal schedules and playstyles? You can’t.
You mean the expansion with no release date? Yeahh…lets take stuff away from players til whenever that launches. Game will be in tip top shape til then. No worries, sounds good.
I suppose we ignore the fact that these changes are coming with the very same expansion as well…?
I stand corrected! I think I’ve revealed how super excited ™ and involved I am with this expansion!
Why are we assuming that there won’t be new abilities added?
I’m sure there will be in HoT for the new siege weapon, at least.
You mean the expansion with no release date? Yeahh…lets take stuff away from players til whenever that launches. Game will be in tip top shape til then. No worries, sounds good.
Do you guys remember the whole month that new ideas were tested out?
The question is, does Anet remember?
Pepperidge Farm remembers.
Removed. Colin confirmed on Reddit:
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/36qzdj/upgrading_world_vs_world_upgrades/crgccbpSo Colin is spending more time answering questions on reddit than the official forums… Pathetic.
I have to admit… that is kind of sad. This is the official guild Wars 2 Forums, not reddit. This question was asked here over 2 hours ago. Yet the first place the Devs find out there was even a question is on another site… LOL
Probably because it is far easier to answer a reddit question on a phone or tablet while doing other work thing instead of constantly checking your PC in sub-forums on the GW2 website.
Wait, you have to be on a PC to use these forums efficiently? Wut?
This is a no fun..I mean no salt zone. Thanks
Aaaand thats why I think borderland roaming beats EGB roaming any day. It’s just that late night EBG is the only map with action.
Wait, people care about spies still? Yikes.
Worried about the future of WvW? worry about the future of the game. People aren’t playing wvw because anet destroyed it. Server transfers, lag, utility skill changes, there is no future here.
You forgot to mention cmdrs tagging up drunk screwing up maps, Any organized WvW goes though TS which has kitten berating you for any mistake or blaming you for all of them.
Like I play GW2 to listen to some pimply faced elitist kitten on me for playing a video game, I think there enough crow to eat in real life never mind some wanbe videogame hero.
Lastly I started playing and have tried to play this game for WvW only but it full of hacks, bots. afkers, elite punks, drama to the lama its actually not fun to play anymore.
Flame on don’t care, Iv’e heard enough crap from my server to know its full of lousy people, not play skill, just ignorant, self entitled ……. you get the rest.
FA server sucks stay away.
I gotta be honest, that rant was a little random and tiny bit weird.
Link server location to IP in WvW. As it stands with all the $10 sales on the game we are seeing a lot of spies in WvW. This is annoying because you have people from the other server on your side sabotaging siege, doing false call outs, reporting positions etc. With the current design, all it takes is 1 alt account to be able to troll any server you are playing against and there isn’t really any way to report players doing this. Anet should make it so server is IP bound so that any account logging in from an IP has to play on the same server. It would really help WvW as a whole not having to worry about spies from other servers ruining our gameplay.
No.
1. Some people do legitimately play on multiple servers
2. Trolls don’t actually have to be from another server.
Oh official forums you never fail me, don’t ever change
If FC is dead it is because people betrayed their server and left, that is not for me. I have been on FC since I transferred from EU Gunnar’s Hold 3-4 months into playing the game. I have no desire to play for anyone else but the Ferg.
But you just admitted to “betraying” Gunnar’s Hold haha.
I think we need to see incentivized WvW so that servers can look to their communities to participate in WvW for a more balanced population presence.
Weekly rewards for 1st-3rd place, and these rewards should be substantial and worthwhile.
Have you met Seasons? Substantial rewards without addressing coverage wars would have the same stacking results.
In all honesty, expect more of the same for WvWvW. We’ll get non content like Seasons and a fresh coat of paint on a crumbling house like this new map! Most players won’t weather WvWvW core design flaws (I don’t blame them) so there’s a need for a big infusion of new blood now and then. I suspect if any game comes along with fluid combat and open world PvP, WvWvW would collapse.
Uhhhh…ok. It’s been a weird day.
Well that’s kind of the point, balance changes are made with sPvP in mind. WvWvW is the gutter where it all ends up!
