About a month ago I faced a guy running this in WvW(Something close to this at least). It`s ridiculous and very OP. There are no counter to that. I just avoided him after. I think everyone on my server passed the word to simply avoid him. I had a chat with him and he told me it was getting boring.

This has to be nerfed or changed TBH.

And that is exactly what you’re supposed to do. When they get no action maybe they’ll try not running such a lame build.

I only dont like how mesmers got more stealth then thieves. Condi mesmers are in stealth 80% of the time, put conditions on you and bam they are gone in stealth.

Have you encountered a ghost Thief at all? The ones who slather on conditions while never leaving stealth? Anyway, the PU nerf and reveal only makes it harder for glassy Mesmers, condi PU is still faceroll. But its not just because of stealth, it’s a combination of that and the blinks, blocks, blinds, toughness, the silly changes to some of the conditions – confusion being a prime example, perplexity runes, the mere existence of torment in a action based combat system like GW2 etc etc. The list can go on but it’s not just stealth (as annoying as it can be).

Wonder if ANet would change the Weekly Reset to an every 3 Hour Reset?

This would do nothing to discourage the Population Imbalance of Server Stacking…which could be the source behind Night Capping problems.

I still firmly believe the base WvW Map Mechanic needs to be changed.

However, it would provide a band aid response to people crying foul on Night Capping by changing the feedback timeframe on who is winning & loosing from a Weekly period…to 3 hours.

People finding their whole map flipped…can feel better knowing that they’re starting a New Timeframe on who is winning…so it makes sense to start all over again & recap things from scratch.

There…problem solved.

The problem with that IMO is that it would water down WvW to just being a longer sPvP match. As it is now, “winning” may not matter to much but you can still feel the result, the excitement of working toward it. If we had 8 matches everyday, I think so many people would just go “meh this is lost, I’ll afk to the next round”. At least now we dont see that until thursday/friday, heh. This would be a fine hybrid gamemode idea between WvW and sPvP though (say 50vs50vs50 1 hour fights on a map the size of a zone).

Perhaps you’re speaking for yourself? I don’t know who wins our matchup each week and its been that way for me through various tiers for many, many months. If Anet rotated one PvE map each week and enabled PvP on it, I’d likely never set foot in WvWvW.

As topic says. BETA testing has no place in WvW. Use the new BL tests to test WvW for beta characters. BETA characters are unbalanced and have no place in WvW matchups.

I disagree. If anything, seeing the new specs in a typical WvWvW setting can offer a wealth of information for developers. And also for players, especially with the release so close. I’m inclined to believe the same people wanting to keep the beta content separate from WvWvW would still be the ones complaining about the new class/specs upon release because the real issue is that they have no clue how to fight them and have only delayed the frustration of working through that.

Actually read my previous comment about the diversity of conditions and how they can shut opponents down in addition to the applicant having the option of being extremely tanky. Being tanky in it of itself is not the problem. You say the game is “flooded” with anti condi tools, the thing is, all of them will cost you, chiefly your burst output. Currently, conditions ignore armor and the protection boon and vulnerability has been changed to accommodate condition damage as well. And with “cover conditions”, 1vXs being more likely than 1v1s, the fast and high damage some conditions can crank out (looking at you burning) and the afflicted being tasked with the usual watching of their opponent(s) also now having to watch their ever frequent debuffs and gauge whether or not to burn a cleanse ends up throwing the trade offs out of balance in favor of tanky condition builds in small fights. You can’t speak about payoff without assessing risk and that risk is hardly worth it if you’re not landing hits, it goes back to my statement about condition diversity.

While you’re “spamming attacks and crossing your fingers for a crit” you risk your health dropping fast since you actually have to give up defense to get worthwhile output that people can’t just out heal or walk away from. Conditions don’t just do damage over time, they can effectively shut down opponent’s ability to perform even basic actions which means even more damage mitigation in favor of someone who can already run pretty tanky. It’s less engaging because there is more cushion for mistakes.

Agree with tongku – pugs seem afterthought in this system.

The other issue – if you aren’t fighting with the same people for some greater goal of the group at large, what are you even fighting for? It seems that the “just for the fights” people bore more quickly when they realize there is no greater purpose and the fights are essentially the same thing over and over……

Funny you should say that, in the original GW launched in 2005 players fought other players there for guild pride and bragging rights for far longer than GW2 has been live.


The entire server concept is prior generation thinking that wasn’t even in GW. The fact they pulled it out of PvE is proof of what a colossally bad idea it is. EotM nor sPvP adheres to this architecture.

As has been discussed in dozens of former threads, a Guild Alliance system would be vastly superior to the existing server system. Each match guilds would be grouped together with preference towards their alliances and they would face two other such groups with the selection engine having some preference to guild alliances that are at war with each other. Unaligned players/guilds (mercenaries) would fill in on matches to help achieve a better balance.

Each reset the system would shuffle the matchups around. The same system would weigh typical guild play hours into its matching system so as to create a better (not perfect) off hour presence in each matchup.

Generally, it’s people who keep people playing MMOs because content runs out fast (see the Living Story debacle and Anet changing their original tune of “no expansions”). I’m all for a guild alliance system. Your system will include pugs, they just won’t be catered to like the bulk of this game already does.

Condition builds are still inferior for PvE because well…GW2 PvE is dead easy and predictable so going full glass cannon and blowing everything up quickly isn’t risky. Zero reason to bunker up and “outlast” an NPC unless you really, really want to play that way and I’m kind of bummed out that Anet doesn’t look into that instead of making these changes that kitten up small WvWvW fights.

Changing the AoE cap only makes sense if they can significantly reduce the number of AoE skills. Unfortunately ANet created entire classes/builds that output far too much AoE and rely on it for its core damage. Most damage in an MMO should be targeted or positional (helps the performance of the gaming engine, less lag and vastly easier to balance). If this were the case, AoE could truly be AoE without limits which would have the desired effect against stacking.

Unfortunately that ship has sailed so to balance small scale AoE delivery with large scale AoE delivery we land on caps. I would wager if they could do it all again, AoE skills would be a fraction of what they are today and likely something each class has limited access to on fairly large cool downs.

I get what you’re saying about too much AoE, specially those of the circular variety. Line and cone AoEs require a bit more thought and you can’t easily just blanket the ground with them. The problem is compounded by no diminishing returns on hard CC and an extremely forgiving rally system tbh. In the end, GW2’s combat scales up really poorly (which is why I rarely enjoy blobby fights).

Obviously this is taking an idea to the logical absurd extreme.

Maybe on the other hand it is time to have a map with an SMC on point cap A and another SMC on point cap B and all your skills are removed. You can only use siege to attack and defend. Then players can show off their commander siege skills.

See how this works? Not constructive at all, is it?

I was giving my opinion, using siege is apart of wvw, whether taking/defending objectives to open field fights. If it’s been 3 years and people still cannot accept that having a problem with siege in wvw is fundamentally silly, unless it is troll siege ofc, than maybe it is time for those people to either try pvp or try a different mmo, as clearly their perception of what wvw should be in their opinion, and what it actually is are very different.

Yes siege weapons are a part of WvWvW and personally that’s not what I take issue with. It’s that people overuse them because they can. See pic below. Does that seem like a fun time for an opposing team (if you do stuff like this, don’t complain if no one wants to deal with that and there are less people for you to play with). Player weapon skills are also part of WvWvW but learning how to make the most of those becomes a less attractive option for some when they could just sit in relative safety and hit like a truck.

Ahhh please don’t QQ about condi being too strong. I don’t run condition builds often, but it’s true that against some specs, conditions are too strong. But what about builds that are made for condi clearing? Maybe it’s time we redefined the meta.

The same is true of SPvP. Meta defines there, but when me and a friend ran a double burn guard spec, it was countered hard by 1 single shout condi removal guardian on enemy side.

What people need to do in roaming is accept that some specs will always beat others, so they need to adapt.

  • The people who still care will adjust, the people not having fun playing like that will just ditch the scene or even the game.
  • Condition builds are not a huge issue in sPvP like they are in small man WvWvW fights for fairly obvious reasons (stat combos/sigils/food/runes).

a few days ago I ran into a zerker ranger that was so incredibly, and I do mean incredibly stupid i will be laughing about it long after condis are gone and i am gone from this game.

this guy let me get 2 phantasms and a clone out, then sat there with 6 stacks of confusion, then right as i put my feedback on him he decided to literally sit in it and pop all his CDs on his LB.

can you guess the outcome ? are you by any chance that ranger ?

In WvWvW , confusion (coupled with torment) helps to make it so a player is punished regardless if they choose to be a sitting duck or not.

So does every other condition. List one condition that doesn’t punish a player “regardless if they choose to be a sitting duck or not”…….

anet always had cheap and easy builds in their game.

So does every other multiclass game that ever existed. Disingenuously posting in an effort to apply Anet has made some unique error sure doesn’t strike me as a particularly intelligent way to go about inspiring them to take your suggestions into consideration.

One punishes you more for using a skill the other for even moving but they both do damage regardless and are both applied often. That’s what I meant by being a sitting duck. Moving and using skills are basic components of combat and other conditions do not have these kittened if you do, slightly less kittened if you don’t type rules.

You could say the same for pretty much any condi build that doesn’t have it’s defensive skills off CD. Condition builds being non applicable in zerg fighting is not a Mesmer issue, I don’t think there is a bunch of zerging condi Warriors high fiving each other and laughing at Mesmers trying in vain to land a few paltry stacks of confusion and torment on an enemy zerg’s regroup. We’re talking small scale fights here. And I’ve picked off plenty zerglings in big fights on my non-cheese (because it’s boring as kitten) Mesmer, pick a role and build for it. Simple.

Confusion was ok a long time ago. Then it got nerfed by a whopping 50%. Then no one used it. Confusion was always crap in PvE. Now, it’s actually in a good place. If you’re too stupid to see that you have 10 stacks of confusion, maybe you shouldn’t do 100 blades or Barage. Same thing with retaliation. Pay attention. Burning and bleeding still does more than the passive ticks of of confusion, so I just don’t understand what everyone is complaining about.

This becomes quite difficult when you run into multiple players who spam conditions, confusion being prevalent among them, which I find to be very common these days. Confusion ticking regardless just adds to the pile of condi madness.

Many duelers will say no interrupting because it is not an honorable thing to do.

But…they are enemies!

what are the situations when you will consider interrupting a duel?

Usually I will interrupt if:

1) they are dueling alone and the enemy is low life then I will help to burst and kill the enemy.

Usually I won’t interrupt if:

1) there are other enemies watching who might attack me if I interrupt.

I’m sorry, you must have mistakenly written on the wrong topic. This is not “Are there other exits from spawn.” I mentioned that in the body already and yes anyone who plays WvW knows about them.

The topic here is increasing the range and effectiveness of the Legendary Defenders. And limiting or removing another servers ability to drop siege on the path from spawn to the keep. It would remove a nasty part of the game that adds absolutely nothing positive.

And what would that change? People would just spawn camp a little further back. Quit relying on npc’s to carry you, if you are so outnumbered that you can’t push out on 1 map, even with the help of razer, you have 3 other maps to choose from and each of them have 3 exits.

Oh lord you really missed the whole purpose of this thread, please read whats being discussed or don’t comment. This thread, in case you missed it, is about increasing the effectiveness and range of Legendary Defenders thus eliminating the BS act of spawn camping.

It’s not about how many exits there are from spawn. It’s not about bringing the fights to spawn because someone is too lazy to run the map. And FYI you don’t really get bags when spawn camped. Don’t tell me you do either. It’s not about NPCs carrying anyone or the need for them to do so. People play GW2 and go into WvW because it’s a great game and trolls at spawn was not what the Devs had in mind. Otherwise why would they block siege from being placed in spawn or why would they place Legendary Defenders at the gates who can one shot you?

Best comment yet was having Siegerazer blast out the front of spawn and wreck anything in his path. Add that the Legendary Defenders have increased range and bye bye trolls spawn camping.

Has nothing to do with PVE. But has everything to do with making a better experience and game. If you think PVE is a Legendary blasting some kitten spawn camper or Siegerazer clearing a path then you need to see what PVE is all about, that’s not it. Just like Wvw is not about being trebbed and sieged in your spawn regardless of how many exits.

He does have a point though. In the end it comes down to simply waiting for a weaker force to leave the safe haven, whatever size said haven may be. Also, legendary defenders defaulting to ranger class reach will likely allow cowardice on the spawner’s side and will be abused. It all comes back to the participation imbalance that is at the core of WvWvW.

There is no such thing as spawn camping when you have 3 total exit point.
If one spawn exit camped then use the other two exit points I really dont see the problem here.

Yes there is very much such a thing as spawn camping. What are you going to do if you manage to get through one of the other exits? They’ve already busted up your forces either by sheer numbers and or skill and now they’re literally already standing around waiting for you to try something so they can do it again lol.

With WvWvW’s core design, allowing actual rewards and “status” means rewarding coverage and anything linked to Wxp and capping is rewarding ktrainers, including EotM.

If they don’t rework WvWvW then new skins, leaderboards etc (including the new map) will be like slapping a new coat of paint on a house with a crumbling foundation and busted plumbing.

It might be because I’m on TC and I’m not involved in the hardcore WvW community… but I’ve always been on TC and it used to be that WvW was a more popular activity.

I took a break from the game for a while. Before my break I remember TC had huge zergs all the time. You could find action really fast if you went to WvW.

Nowadays it seems so barren. The zergs are smaller, usually a hardcore guild group. There’s less actual fighting than I remember. There’s a lot more capping stuff behind each others backs.

So overall it just seems like WvW is far less popular than it used to be. The only reason I can think of for that is that it’s not really that fun of a game mode.

I think the problem is that the game mode doesn’t create engaging or meaningful fights organically. Most professions are too good at escaping small fights, and zergs usually don’t actually fight, they just cap stuff. A victory is meaningless anyway because people just insta-respawn and go back to capping objectives.

I don’t know if it can be fixed, but to me it’s more of an issue than tier stagnation. I don’t understand why people care so much when the game mode itself isn’t even good.

I don’t play nearly as much as I used to because some of the changes to the combat system made large and small fights kinda crappy most of the time. WvWvW itself is poorly designed (24/7 conquest mode doesn’t work) and I made my peace with that and stopped caring about PPT a while ago. GW2’s combat is pretty nice and fluid, that and the people I played with kept me logging in. They also don’t play as much anymore.

What are the higher tier servers like in WvW?

So how did the higher tier servers originally get so much activity compared to the lower tier servers? Were they the original servers in GW2 and the others got added later (with occasional guilds changing servers mixing things up)? Or they were slightly better or the same at the start and people gravitated there as they had slightly more action (as I started without knowing / understanding the game and went in FC as my friends were there)?

The simple answer is ‘by chance’. There was no way for people to spread out at launch. You basically picked a server that had an awesome name or one that your community had decided was “your” server (in EU we had a lot of discussion about which server which country would pick as their unofficial home. FSP, for example, got a lot of Scandinavians and Dutchies). So what happened is that naturally the populations got imbalanced right from the start and some servers never really got off the ground. It was anyone’s guess how stacked a server was that early.

The second major problem was one that very recently got fixed: The distinction between pve and wvw in world population. As I said above, at launch people joined server based on community, not balance. This, of couse, also applied to pve. So what happened is that while some servers got a high wvw population, others saw a massive pve one. This made servers near or totally full all thanks to pve, so no matter how much people wanted to join or transfer to it for wvw, they simply couldn’t!

As time has moved on and the general population of the game has declined, people have started to congregate more and more on fewer and fewer servers, leaving those unfortunate lower ones to basically bleed out. That leaves us pretty much where we are today.

With that said, this is not a good time to judge the state of servers. The expansion is upon us and we’re in a sort of limbo where people are taking breaks as they wait for a release, and we have no idea what will happen when it does release. The recent change to how server population is calculated is the obvious first step in a plan by Anet to create a more balanced playing field in anticipation for the likely population boom following the release of HoT. New and returning players have no other choice but to populate the lower servers, boosting their population, while the ‘full’ status prevents the top servers from getting stacked even further.

You forgot “Seasons” and free transfers. Also, new players might not have a choice other than to play WvWvW on currently low pop servers but WvWvW’s lopsided nature will no doubt chase many away rather quickly unless major changes are made (new map won’t work miracles).

In favor of the larger group:

  • Rally system
  • AoE cap
  • New condi mechanics
  • No diminishing returns on hard CC
    * Stability
  • Hard ressing

Having a larger force is already a huge advantage in itself and then the game gives you more leeway for sloppy play simply based on these mechanics/limitations. I can imagine hard ressing in combat is great when you’re zerging people down but when you often find yourself outnumbered by a large margin and actually having to tighten up coordination, it’s a PITA.

Why Do Pets Have Much More Health in PVE?

no just pets i think , this was done Ages and ages ago before the WvW seasons last year.

due to pets dying in 1 hit vs World bosses and some champs for fractals and dungeons they added bonus health to pets to help them survive.

WvW stayed the same as they wanted this to be more even to the Spvp health levels of pets.

Couldn’t they strike a happy medium between the two for WvW though considering WvW has more and stronger build variation than PvP?

It should be the same because WvWvW uses PvE rules, plain and simple. Not only are WvWvW players encountering more build variation but also varying enemy group sizes. But that would make too much sense. I mean if Anet is going to start nit picking at WvWvW combat, then there are some other things to look at as well (rally system, stability etc).

People have asked for this for some time now and it would be nice as I enjoy small man fights. Bombing the resser isn’t always an option because you’re outnumbered and his buddies are all trying to kill you and sometimes you just have to kite a bit. Then poof~ the guy who managed to fully die even though they outnumbered you is back in the fight! Too many GW2 mechanics provide crutches for the larger group.

I think roaming is on it’s way out. This is just my opinion.

  • Condi builds are common and I can see why. My problem is that, win or lose, they generally don’t provide a fun fight
  • Too many pile on ponies that turn somewhat even fights into lopsided disappointments
  • More overall damage output so now whenever you do actually find a fight, its over pretty fast. Hardly worth the running around to find them.

Make use of the GvG guolds occupying the enemy, gather up a group as small as five, and flip stuff. Take advantage of your newly occupied enemies. It’s win-win for all. Don’t force anyone to play a certain way, have respect both ways, and before you know it, you have a cohesive team where everyone is happy.

In small scale WvWvW fights, yeah condition builds can be pretty strong (PU condi Mes is just gross). Anyway, there are a wide range of conditions and they add up to shut down or punish players from even doing basic actions, which means they’ll be taking damage while having trouble dealing it, essentially taking one of the the P’s out of PvP. Toughness and Vitality help with surviving direct damage, conditions ignore toughness and in the current state of things, some condition builds aren’t far behind power builds at the speed that they can kill, condi burst is real. Torment and confusion doing damage regardless (which is soooo stupid) and vulnerability now affecting condition damage, increased stacks and not to mention what’s going on with burning. Some of the stat combinations, consumables, sigils and runes available in PvE and thus WvWvW don’t help the situation either.

no. The problem isnt conditions. The problem lies in the fact that the majority of players are stuck in the ‘power’ syndrome, where they try to squeeze every single once of power dmg out of their spec. To do this, they sacrifice condi-clear.

Its their own fault they don’t bring condi-clear. This is why you do not see an uproar in spvp, as folks there will bring condi-clear…

TBH when I first heard I was a bit annoyed, I figured they would just make it easier to obtain rather then throw it out. Over time I’ve become impartial, If everyone has it, its not an advantage or a boost, if no one has it, its the same thing as everyone having it.

The only part of me that kind of cares is that it really is the only 2 lines that really gave something that imo was worth while if you were not someone who likes to siege.

There’s 0 chance the populations will end up balanced if you leave it to the player themselves with no hard rules to enforce balance.

You do realize that the core design of WvWvW is self sabotaging, right? An international gaming community playing an open world conquest mode that’s 24/7 scoring for a week on not one but four different maps will never be balanced. Ever. And if I couldn’t play with my friends, then that’s pretty good reason to not play the game and I wouldn’t ask them to come down to a server that’s dead when we play.


There could have been large scale conquest/deathmatch arenas for various sized groups, instead we have people crying about pug communities as if people aren’t transferring/taking breaks/outright quitting and impacting the servers anyway, population is fluid, sorry it’s just what it is.

Instanced arenas for pug and pre-made large scale combat (conquest/death match/whatever) could have worked. Ditch the anonymous names for enemies and you’ll see familiar faces and new ones too, right now it doesn’t stop trash talk, it just lumps players under a banner of “other”. There would still be community and team pride and melee trains/ ranged bombs/roamers/scouts/pick teams and now you can get worthwhile rewards and even have leaderboards because the teams are <gasp> balanced! They could have rotated one PvE map every week that had PvP enabled (don’t like PvP, don’t go to the map, there are a dozen more to choose from), so people can roam and brawl and fight over bosses that have special skin drops, whatever just no ridiculous scoreboard.

My experiences have been GvG guilds that have no interest in WvW at all just fights and duelers, so many duelers often 10-30 people grouped up for duels. They sit outside Stonemist and have been trolling players actually trying to play WvW, like yesterday we had a thief and a elementalist who kept attacking the groups trying to skirt around Stonemist, and thus start a WvW players and dueler battles over and over. We keep asking them to politely move away so this stops happening, it’s a win win if they move, they don’t get disturbed and we don’t get trolled, but they generally just reply “Go bleep yourself!” Guildwars 2 has such a terrible community, but I guess that’s true for the internet in general.

This happens on every server, those duels usually start off with 2 players and someone watching, then more watch until the fight is over, then people take turns of dueling before moving off again to WvW.

We ask zerglings nicely not to interfere and to move past or have a turn themselves but they can’t resist that inconsiderate rapid fire or burst for attempts at a lootbag, as you said though “Guildwars 2 has such a terrible community, but I guess that’s true for the internet in general.”
