LOS? done in several times at other encounters and regular play.

Where exactly do you need to los the boss in order not to wipe (exluding glitching her)?

Burn to avoid adds? you can avoid this and still kill the boss.

You burn him to avoid his 1 minute long stun

Stability and Invul on Lupi only works for his dome and to be honest, I barely use those, you can dodge it or just let it hit you and survive if you are not glass. Boss fight won’t be lost if you dont use that and still are basic playing mechanics.

You can’t dodge it with normal dodge and if you’re glass it will kill you.

Project Reflection is also something players do regular in other bosses, Grawl fractal last boss to reflect the agony attack is just an example, Orr turrets, etc… though I understand what you mean with that on the Jotun boss. Yes, this one also has a specific mechanic, but how long and stressfull is to gather 10 crystals and face him while you alt tab and watch youtube videos?

Grawl boss doesn’t require reflection, same as those turrets.

Stuns I’ve doing this since AC, when I was low lvl close to game release I used to run this dungeon with my friends and even there, we used to stun the mobs that summons more and more critters, actually I didn’t even used any stun on Kogra and just fought all his Gorilas aournd the southern pilars using LOS to gather them and AOE. Not hard at all.

On my first arah trip I killed all the adds by kiting around, doesn’t mean it’s indended.

Yet something you want to preserve for a minority by not being honest with this fight.

Em, you seem to completely miss the point. I carried a lot of bads there, I honestly don’t care who got it and how (you can also buy it). What I don’t want is yet another faceroll boss added to collection because average gamer can’t start to think once in a while.

Exotic Level 80 armor is not the same as, lets say, Soldier armor. Toughness and Vit are for survival. Alpha is not for the ’zerker sets.

I’ve been running a 0/30/20/20/0 build for quite some time now. I use it for PvE mainly. Sword/Torch and Scepter/Focus. Works great with heal on crit food and it feels like its the highest damage output out of all our weapon sets. GSword isn’t far behind though. I like the build because I can switch to GSword/Staff or what not easily with a trait change. I also wanted to try something other than AH or Monks and I was quite happy. Problem is that it relies on food in PvE. If they ever nerf the Omnom Pie this build will lose a big part of its survivability.

Tests showed GS has the most dps unless you make a comparison with traits more suited for 1h sword.

Wonder if GL would be possible to kill on a Necro? You would have to go 30 in Soul Reaping for stability (which is a lot of wasted points if your a Cond spec) to get out of dome.

Problem is Necro is only class without a skill that makes you immune to damage, making the random shots pretty hard to get past.

If you lack endurance, you might consider getting a food with +40% endurance recharge rate.

Shield is better in places with a lots of projectiles (lupi, uncategorized fractals, etc) while focus is a bit more offensive – shield of wrath deals a lot of damage.

I play Knight’s with Emerald Orbs and TBH I feel pretty invincible and very supportive when I play it right, but not so strong. Which is ok, because I made a guardian for support and survivability with decent damage. In my opinion, AH is currently the most popular build for guardians for a reason, because it let’s them really excel.

When I want to run into a battle on a glass cannon/Berserker build, I’ll do it on my warrior where that playstyle is more effective (in my experience). I probably won’t change my warrior build to support/shouts with Cleric’s gear for the same reason as above, I won’t be able to do that as well as I do it on my guardian.

Just my opinion, some will disagree and may be right depending on how they play.

Where’s the fun in playing invincible build, isn’t it like playing with god mode on? ;p

I fail to see how adding more and more penalties when attempting to get the already laughable “rewards” for ones time and effort – couple that with the fact that some accounts/toons have inherently bad RNG and you get players sick and tired of beeing cheated out of the time invested in the game

I agree that majority sucks and that posts asking for reszerg or asking for nerfs to COF 2 are a proof of that. But this fight still has something wrong…

Lets agree that the majority sucks, and people asking for a nerf to Lupicus are wrong because learning how to dodge and being endurance eficient is a basic player skill that is trained during your whole GW2 career. Lupicus being one of the hard/fun bosses where you apply what you learned. In Dwayna you have to do something else, herding mobs… you NEVER herd anything in the game before, and all of a sudden, after hours of running a dungeon, probably wipeing before and already ready to be done with it,.. you have to herd 5! sincronized with a second player and under extreme parameters, not only you have to do it during a boss fight but also you must do it in perfect time.

It’s the same deal with other arah bosses. Did you have to los any boss (Alphard), keep him burning (Shoggroth), use stability/invuln to avoid unavoidable attack (Lupi), use projectile reflection (Jotun), stun him so he won’t spawn adds (Kogra), there are many examples of bosses with unique mechanics which you haven’t had to utilise before.

This is why I repeat over and over that the fight its not fun and push players to run only with certain group composition and wear only certain gear/skill. Because you can’t exceed at something you never did before, and having Dwayna as the last boss in the longest dungeon in game only makes it worst (at this point you don’t wanna stand there for hours trying and trying again). You will need the best DPS available to compensate for any second lost on sparks.

Repeating this yet another time, you don’t need a certain group composistion. I’ve done it 20+ times with all kinds of group compositions including 2 necros.

Now, I can take the elitist position since I already got my tittle and say “its fine, l2p” but honestly, I don’t think it is. And I don’t think that going through what I have to go through is playing better the game. It felt quite the opposite of learning to play, it was unlearning GW2 and going back to run in syncro and smash buttons.

What I meant by “gratz” was rather sarcastic, that title has same prestige as Combat Healer.

Several posts are not opened because its hard. It’s because people think its not right.

I’m at the office atm and can’t make you a draw but try to follow me (sry, english is my second language)

I get aggro of the 3 northern sparks (cave entrance) and run toward the statue where 5 circles are located. I pass though circle 1 to let the first spark hit its spot BUT the space between one circle and the other is smaller than the Spark auto attack range so I have to move a few steps farther to compensate that distance (something you surely do as well automatically but its hard to explain). At this point sometimes the sparks move farther, like if I did 3 steps, the spark moved 5 and dodge the circle.

One weird thing that happened twice (very rare) was the spark “reseting” and going back to its original position. It was weird the whole party was “What the…!?”

I’m telling you, the challenge here is herding sparks, which results in DPS race cause you run against time.

This is where you are wrong. The fight is extremely easy. Hard thing is trusting that the spark AI will behave good and enter on those circles in the ridiculously short time you have to do it. Put those together, you have a dps race against a wall.

Sparks do beahve better now, but still dodge the circle many times and for players like me with an average of 300+ ping its even worst. Why not make the circles a bit bigger? I mean,… its really the latest challenge of the game to herd mobs?

Funny how elitist still think this is challenge because others don’t want to endure this pain.

How do sparks dodge those circles? You aggro them and run past those circles most of the time.

This is a challenge, otherwise you wouldn’t see couple of threads about Simin on the 3 last pages of this subforum.

Our Zeal traits are so poor it’s hardly imaginable. +5%dmg with GS while warriors have +10% plus a spear. Our grandmaster Zeal traits shouldn’t even be master, they’re so bad. Give me better Zeal/Radiance trait, playing with AH is just too boring but there’s no reason to go for 30 Zeal and 30 Radiance unless you run with 1h weapon.

2 zerker wars and 1 zerker thief is not a wack setup loflux. That’s a pretty DPS focused party. Heck, i would say it’s even more effective than having 4 warriors which are sonic boon / knight specced.

Again, let’s stop acting like 4 zerkers = the standard or normal way of playing. 4 zerker warriors is actually the most effective and optimal setup in a lot of dungeons. You can’t expect most people to have this kind of gear. I’m running CoF daily now for some berserker gear and with only 3 pieces and a different trait setup, i alrdy notice that the difference is huge compared to the sonic boon build.

I personally think that the gear/dps check is a lame gamepaly element tho. But i alrdy said that so i leave it at that. The dungeon designers can do whatever they want ofc. i’m done with it anyways. Most dungeons show no challenge and the only one that does a bit, has a dps/gear check for the lulz.

It’s 3 people against 5 with a timewarp. And he said they were dps traited/geared. And what the kitten is that sonic boon build?

All of them were running with a DPS build, actually.

That’s a really bad dps build you had there. 2 warriors plus 1 thief can kill her without even running sparks after 4-1 and without timewarp.

Before any nerfs are done, I would like to see these bugs fixed. First, the sparks will often pass right through circles or sit inside a circle and not activate. And then you have the bug where she will stealth every 5-10 seconds. sparks are placed under 15 seconds usually. I’m not sure which groups can dps fast enough when she goes into stealth almost instantly. If these are not fixed then this fight is more about luck and dps than skill/coordination.

We were breaking even with 4 warriors and 1 mesmer (mesmer using tears). It took us 3 timewarps to finally take her down. The sparks seem to be ok now, it’s just the stealth timer that is unfair to non-DPS groups. Increase the timer as well as make Dwayna hurt some more because her threat is non-existent at the moment.

3 timewarps with 4 wars and 1 mesmer? Did you have tanks?

Its a good start. Dungeons feel a bit more polished and less zergy, but I think they still have a long way to go. Fractals are amazing.

It’s my hope that eventually regular dungeons are brought into line with Fractals in terms of balance and scaling difficulty/rewards.

Fractals are far from being amazing. Some classes’ survivability depends on things that some creatures are immune to, how’s that good balance?

Seems like your guardian doesn’t even know about a weapon called a shield. Shield of avenger is rather bad because of its unpredictability. And phase 2 is easier than phase 3 so I really don’t understand your concerns.

That’s a total non sense answer.

Dungeons are beaten because players know the events and strategies unique to that dungeon. Running other easier dungeons would do NOTHING to teach new players on how to beat the dungeon they want to go to.

And frankly, it’s not a simple matter of improving skills, people just simply refuse to realize that fact.

Some people will be bad no matter what happens, and if they solely bare the burden of that I wouldn’t have a problem with it.

The problem is when you have BAD players the whole team suffers, while previously a bad player is an annoyance now you basically have to waste time to kick them and find someone else or fail the instance.

Harder dungeons have bosses with more difficult mechanics, it’s rather simple. Check Kholer → Alphard. Dodging Kholer’s pull is a piece of cake for most of the playerbase, dodging Alphard’s pulls is rather a rare occurance.

I think people are confusing some of the issues here.

Skilled play should be more rewarding than non-skilled play.

Specifically in dungeons this means skilled players completing hard encounters, managing to complete instances quicker than non skilled players etc.

The problem with the new system is that it punishes non skilled play to such a degree that instead of a mistake costing say 5 minutes of a team’s time, one mistake can easily add 30 minutes or more to a dungeon or even cause a team not to complete the instance.

This has a knock on effect that the vast majority of more experienced players will look to only play with people of equal experience. If you had a choice, would you let a level 35 or a level 80 play with your group in Ascalon Catacombs? Or someone with green gear instead of exotics? How about engineers, rangers and necros compared to warriors, guardians and mesmers?

Without a safety net for newer players to experience dungeons and learn encounters the risk is splitting the community into dungeon runners, and non dungeoners. Most sane people don’t want to see content dumbed down, made brain dead or just plain skippable. However I feel this is too much of a swing, there are a few good suggestions in this thread.

So yes difficult dungeons are fine, just make them accessible. (Hard / Easy modes, make all dungeons lvl 80 to not encourage exclusion of lower levels in PuGs)

If a team wipes now, it usually means that they kittened up. Instead of rushing as fast as possible from waypoint to the boss, they should rethink their strategy. How did I die? What did kill me? How can I prevent it? Is that utility/weapon really need here? You should ask those questions instead of m->click on wp->rush to the boss->profit->I’m pro and this game is no-brain.

Is thinking the thing that separates skilled and non-skilled play? I thought that’s the thing that separates humans and animals.

There were even a couple times that she’d only appear for about 10 seconds and heal 20% of her hp.

I’ve seen a lot of videos of this fight, and when Simin appears for a short duration it’s always because the group took too long to put the sparks. If the group takes 50 seconds to put the sparks, then yes Simin only shows for 10 seconds.

He’s right about that. I’ve done that path 20+ times and sometimes Simin stealths after 10s even if you put sparks in ~10s.

You won’t hit lupi for 20k+ with 100b, more like 15k, he got more defense than other bosses.

You were responding to a guy saying Alpha is impossible when I was told yesterday by a friend that he is now almost faceroll. Doing path 1 in 13 minutes is almost similiar to CoF1 and I don’t see people asking to nerf that path.

You don’t need to complete that path, there are 3 others. Should we have all 4 paths with faceroll difficulty level? How would you encourage above average players to do them when all bosses require autoattack turned on and occasional dodge out of red circle? Do we really want to have steady, stable and low difficulty level in all dungeon because some people can’t step up their game? I joined a lot of pugs, stucked at Simin, and there’s a reason why they can’t do it.

This is an A++ post and says it all. The developers just formalized the split between the elitists who would really appreciate the challenge and deserve a special reward for choosing it and the majority who are now finding it even more difficult to get in a group and get to finish the first boss because kicking a downed player is now easier than giving a quick lesson.

You have 8 dungeons to choose from. If you have troubles with completing the almost hardest of them, maybe you should practice running easier dungeons. Once you improve your skills, then you should start running CoE/Arah. Zerg rushing bosses was never a valid tactic, it’s similiar situation when anet fixes exploits and suddenly you can’t beat the boss.

They fixed the dodge-bug but before 28th patch usually you had to turn autoattack off.

The person I know is trying to do this on thief, a proffession widely considered 2nd tier. I’m looking forward to his success since it won’t be kiting festival but rather face-to-face fight

The one thing that drove me nuts about this encounter (which I still haven’t beaten) is that the whole dungeon requires you to pick a pretty defensive setup (for obvious reasons). Then all of a sudden you get to Simin and you need basically maximum dps output to get past it. Since you cannot change your traits on the fly, and most people don’t have several gear sets on them, this makes the encounter extremely challenging for most groups, especially pug groups.
As mentionted above, one slight miss-step in pathing the sparks and it basically resets the fight. I can’t count the number of times we got her down to less than <25% hp, only to have her heal completely because we couldn’t get the last spark to get in the kitten circle.

How this dungeon requires defensive setup? It’s more than doable with glass cannons.

Use mobility skills to get sparks faster, don’t just run. I’ve seen groups picking as runners the worst possible choices.

Oh, you can 14k+ WW? Did not know, I’ve only seen 11-12. I was speaking of Mighty Blow.

Not on lupi (high defence) but it’s doable on other bosses, unlike Mighty blow that hits very rarely for 9k with same setup.

anyone have any bosses they would like this guy to attempt to solo with scepter again?

Scepter DPS is on par with other classes weapons i don’t know why people like to complain about it.

They complain because it took him 39 minutes while warrior can do it in about 8-9 (post patch). Though you should check his equipment/traits first, it’s rather tanky. With full zerker, like in Wethospu’s vid you can do it in ~20 minutes, only twice as slower.

I still don’t get it. Heavy armour proffesions get 7% less damage than medium and 15% less than light armour proffessions. It certainly doesn’t make them invincible.

Robert, as it was said in the previous post, sparks are not the only problem.

Simin mechanic is out of this game. Regular players have no idea what to do, even when you explain to them and show them graphics… this fight is still out of this game as it is unique in everything you have to do.

No other boss in any other dungeon require you to herd anything. No other boss in the game has a dps check as this one. No other boss in this game goes uses timers in this way. No other boss requires a specific location, dance, syncronization to be done. Not even Lupicus.

This sum together makes the boss a huge pain for the vast majority of the player base since they are not used to, and don’t know how to deal with a fight like this. Also, don’t forget that to reach her, you need to run 1-3 hours depending on how good the group is since some trash pulls are very hard and there are a lot of bosses in this path. Many groups skip mobs but others preffer to kill all in their way. (different story if Simin were the second boss in the dungeon, players wouldn’t be so stressed and tired and might put more effort into it).

Like I said, all together makes this fight something else rather than what people plays at GW2.

It is doable, by certain groups, certain party composition with certain builds (lol at that group mentioning 2 necros with blue, greens… I dare them put them 2 on Simin dps and the warrior and guardian on tears/spark duty, lol) and this irritates most players.

Simin fight beats your willing to play before it beats your character, as the fight its not even hard, you can’t die at her but man you don’t want to log ever again for at least a few days after this event.

Yes, please, do make yet another boss that requires nothing except setting autoattack on and going for cup of team.

Btw, we had one of that necro on simin and other guy was throwing tears when it was deemed as necessary. Explaining mechanics in simple words usually does a thing or two.

The heal is too strong I think. Try QA testing it with 5 Rangers. Pretty much should be impossible then.

I would try doing it but I have no ranger nor do I know 4 other rangers. In fact, I know 0 rangers.

Of course not. They let you come back to the fight when you’re dead, so your team doesn’t have to die before you can respawn there. And so the boss doesn’t heal itself.

But that was before.

And how that makes bosses harder than Green Moa?

Arah is the one I’m concerned about. Lupi generally takes the most time, and I will admit that sometimes our run is saved with one person kiting Lupi until the rest of us run back. For the time being, I don’t think I will take new people on my farming runs.

If you had to resort to that “tactic”, I wouldn’t call your adventures “farming runs”.

For similiar reason, you can’t use waypoints in dungeons when your party is in combat even if you’re not defeated, right?

Crucible of Eternity is now impossible, pathetic update ….. path 1, if someone die, it’s over.

2)spawn 3 in random area inside cave within Xrange of statue (3 seems a fair number because if 3 runners are needed they still shouldn’t mess each others spark agro).

That would actually make it harder for uncoordinated pugs without voip.

or OR !! you could go do ac or any other dungeon where bosses are MEAND TO LET YOU LEARN!!! how to freaking dodge -.-
you are not suppose to try out lupi if you can’t even dodge correctly at kholar…… … .. this exploit crap have made the community into noobish no skill whiners -.- fgs

Don’t listen to him, don’t use dodges, you might be banned for exploiting.
