I believe path 1 AC could compare to CoF path1 but people drag it out. CoF p1 is a very sophisticed tactical run, with multiple skips.

In AC the following CAN be skipped but are commonly fought, if these were skipping like CoF, the run would be signifiicantly shorter. Not the same as CoF, but still a decent time.

Skippable:
1. Spider Queen
2. Gravelings in the Trap Hallway
3. Kholer
4. All the gravelings heading to the boss

Id guess Spider Queen adds about 5 mins. Gravelings add like 3 minutes. Kholer adds 5 minutes or more if fail and the mini-champ gravelings add like 2 minutes. All in all, these little bosses probaly take around the same time the actual path takes.

CoF is just more organized and pre-set. If it were randomly pugged, the times would be significantly longer. People will just pick a new dungeon if its nerfed, this is just the most convienent. However, I believe AC would still fall under peoples defintion of speed farming

Sophisticated run? Get me those mushrooms. CoF p1 can be done in 9 minutes without skipping anything. Spider Queen 5 minutes? Kholer 5 minutes? Please tell me you’re throwing arbitrary numbers. You kill lupicus faster.

Why bring a thief to dungeons

Really? I am not kidding – I would love to see a thief tank a champion or mobs. I have never seen a thief that outperforms the guardian in the role of tanking and dishing out damage. Perhaps the pro need to chime in on this.

I don’t know; I think there’s a reason why it’s always the guardian who volunteer to “tank” or “defend” something. Have you ever come across a situation or a group which ask the thief to “hey could you tank this kitten?”

Which champ needs “tanking”, because that only works on mobs? And whenever I see guardian “tanking” it itches me to kick him immediately. There’s a reason why I write “tank” instead of tank.

Well maybe I am wrong, but I have yet to team up with a thief who can tank as well as a guardian. Time to get my thief up. Unfortunately, even in the normal process of levelling up, the disparity between the survivability of thief and guardian is so apparent. I’ve never breezed through the content the like of guardian.

Pistol offhand makes tanking as thief a trivial task, and that’s with glass cannon build. Your “tanking” guardian needs a “tanking” gear.

Personally I’d like to see the differences between melee attacks and ranged attacks in general get tighter. For example on my Mesmer I do nearly twice the damage in melee with a 1h sword than I do with my 2h sword in the same time frame. That kind of disparity is absurd.

Unfortunately this likely has a base in the fact that WvW counts as PvE and suddenly upping ranged damage (or lowering melee) would create a huge imbalance class wise.

You can’t alt-tab as melee, that’s probably the reward for people not alt-tabbing during bosses fights.

If Dwayna was bested and it was on last boss I would easily pay 15g to get this done. Then they would nerf the fight and I would regret it lol.

This is all that stands between me and Dungeon Master. Im creating a zerk warrior for it.. A couple of times we got to 5% hp but then lost because she stealthed back up

I can’t grasp it. If she stealthed at 5% why haven’t you run sparks? Don’t try this bruteforce tactics that is doomed to fail for most groups (though I can’t graps it either how’s that possible).

Pugged it last night. Seriously, all it takes is good players, not even good team setup. Did it with only 2 warriors and the rest random classes.

All you need is 2 players with brains. I’ve done it with 0 warriors and with necros, rangers etc.

Well you dont have to WAIT for up to half an hour for the privilege of playing with bads and u dont have to keep hitting the refresh button for gw2lfg and alt tabbing hoping that u are fast enuff to get in in lf2m and lf1m groups.

I honestly doubt they would ever create fully automated dungeon finder.

Ok, you mean the new version. I was talking about the pre-patch one, when shield regenerated in 10-20 seconds… which meant three players had to stay on lasers all the time.
If it now really takes 30s… they may have nerfed a bit too much. A good boss must be a challenging one, else there is no satisfaction in deafeating it.

No, you were doing it in same exact way, it took 2-5 tries to kill him.

DPS is not the issue, we always took the health of the boss down!

(Although, you need to be fully geared up.)

Any team of experienced professions will kill this boss.

In my view, running the sparks is the issue.

I feel that this is a random event rather than based on the skill of the runners. The sparks will often not go into the receptors, and would rather seek out any nearby team member/pet(even outside a normal aggro range).

The success of the event, therefore depends on luck rather than skill.

I simply can’t see why any boss in GW2 should lead to a fail after 6 hours from an experienced (varied professions) 5 person team.

The spark mechanism is bugged. :x

I don’t even have fully exotic gear. Your teammates that aren’t running sparks go on the side, stick to some wall. That makes running sparks nothing more than a chore.

I think we just still lacked dps there I am sure that if the setup was 3xwarrior, 1 mesmer, 1 guardian we would have made it.
But I am not going to level alts or hire warriors that leave after dwayna just to do this.

I will wait for the dungeon redesign and pray for improvement.
it was the same drama in november and we lost 2 of our most active guild members on that boss after 8 hours of pure torture, they just burned out on the game when we did P4.

I’m sure those random groups searching for those proffesion keep saying same things after spending there some quality time. Out of curiosity, why did you list a guardian? Most guardians play with rather tankish setups. Why not a thief?

If you’re so fast, why couldn’t you kill her? You run sparks until she drops, you have about 1 minute for next spark run if she’s in so-called phase 2.

If you play on EU serv, stuck there and some people lost motivation, next time you could pm me if I’m not doing anything important and it’s not 0am. Though I warn, I might lose patience with people being completely clueless, that happened only once in about 20-30 runs.

I want to qualify that statement:
extremely difficult to find good or even remotely successfull groups.

I used gw2lfg.com only for finding fractal grps and before last patch, any highlvl fractal grp I found there was at least good enough to finish one fractal.
Since patch I couldnt find a single grp being able to finish one fractal lvl30+.

So I wouldnt really say gw2lfg.com is the answer to everything

Why haven’t you added people from those successful groups to your contact list? If a group fares well, chances are those people aren’t bad and you could play with them again.

I was in the same run as jelmew and we tried 4-1 and later we tried a 4-1-5 with timewarps like 4-1-warp-warp, 4-1-warp-5-warp, 4-1-5-warp-warp

it was 1 dagger necro, 2 classcannon thief’s, 2 greatsword mesmers.
1 of the mesmers(me) was tossing the tears piled up. we had no problems with those btw, ppl were instantly back up.
the 2 thiefs ran for the sparks

You must be either trolling me or we have different definition what’s glass cannon. Three glass cannons without timewarp can kill her. I’ve done this path with 3 super tanky guys (cnd mesmer, support guardian and tanky ranger) so the issue is not the lack of your damage, it’s your slow speed of getting sparks at right spots.

Sometimes I join teams stucked on Simin and what I see I would rather not comment but if a guardian can get 3 sparks faster than a thief only 2 and we were fighting near one of his this is something wrong.

Thanks to the original poster for his thoughtfull response. Me and my guildies had a similair experience. We we’re with 4 guildies and 1 pug. When arriving at dwayna, we knew we had a hard time coming. Boy, did we knew it would be so hard. First of all, the pug in our group wasn’t full exotic, no biggi for us normally, we don’t discriminate people on that. And he was kind of a beginner, but we didn’t mind. But when we got to dwayna, after two hours being stuck on the boss, we we’re forced to kick him, simply because his lack of gear and lack of knowledge, being more of a beginner. This really saddened us, that we had to do such things.

Furthermore, at that time, it was already late. So there were no more guardians or warriors in our guild online. Again, we thought, no biggie, we’ll just take another mesmer and be done with it. Again, problems occured. Since we we’re an unconventional team, 1necro/2thiefs/2mesmers, we didn’t pump out enough damage. We tried everyting, speccing into expensive food and undead potions, all possible tricks just to dps enough, chaining timewarp etc. In the end it was just void.

Now i’m sure it was because of our inexperience, but still a boss encounter shouldn’t be as bad as this. If all bosses in the game don’t require perfect skills, why should this one?

Yes, anet let me play how I want to, give me 10 legendaries because I want them for killing 10 green moas, “play like you want”.

Dungeons have always been about teamwork, compentent players, and being well geared.

4 good players can carry a crappy one; most times 2 good players can carry 3 cappy ones. It’s when the majority of the group doesn’t know how to play, is not geared, or just has stupid builds that things go belly up. And that’s when people graveyard rush. Those are the people complaining about the WP change.

Graveyarz zerg has nothing to do with teamwork and being competent. If your team dies it means you botched up and it’s time to reevaluate your previous attempt, not bruteforce again.

Need to kick this old school. Trash mobs need to not respawn and also mobs need to not drop aggro when you run away. Make people play the game and cut paths to the boss. This gets people working together and learn what the teams play style is before you are chucked in the deep end with a boss fight. Running back after your dead should be that simple, your team and killed the mobs so you can run there safely!!!!

As for not being able to WP when you die, I think it should stay. Make people look at what team mates are doing and help them. Everyone needs to help res and watch whats going on. There maybe no set healers in this game but it always seems its just 1 or 2 players that are trying to res, most times just 1.

Once again I’m gonna ask the person suggesting that, how would not dropping aggro work with stealth?

Would you still consider it a good change if , instead of killing it the first try, you would have wiped for two hours only on that boss? Not to mention it takes hours to find a party in this game. Would it still be a good change then?

It is a good change because it forces you to rethink. “Why did I die? How can I stop that from happening?” Using waypoint and rushing to him does nothing, it won’t teach you anything.

We did lupi successfully with 4 people (2 were from gw2lfg). One person dropped out beforehand and we couldn’t get a 5th since the patch was hitting and others had a different client version. The two pickups died during phase 2 and me and my elementalist friend proceeded to 2 man through phase 2 and 3.

That’s really nothing extraordinary.

Nothing changed, phase 3 is considered easier because his skills become more single targetted than in phase 2. But the guy he’s targetting doesn’t have easier time. Try solo him and phase 2 is just a filler before real fight, I even consider phase 1 harder than phase 2.

How are you not getting this? There are tons of enemies, and they all spam it. Your puny Condition Removals are not able to keep up.

When I fight 3 or more Green Moas they all spam daze, how can I cope with that? My 1 stun breaker is not enough.

I’m fairly certain that Lightning Reflexes and Signet of Renewal are ranger’s skills.

The main problem in the health pool is in phase 1, I think. Once you got timing for dodging the grub production or the 4 DPS / 1 on grub duty strategy, this phase is really too long and boring.

What? You do phase 1 in 20-30 seconds with dps setup and about 1 minute with more tanky group. What grub duty are you talking about?

- Destroyer, in its pre-18/01 patch incarnation, was basically dooming three players to eternal boredom and the last two to the same dodges again and again. I’m not sure now, but before patch was clearly the worst boss in CoE (no wonder few groups did p3…)

You’re doing it wrong. Thanks to the complains that he took long, he now takes about 15-30s to kill. Legendary boss, right.

How this dungeon requires defensive setup? It’s more than doable with glass cannons.

Use mobility skills to get sparks faster, don’t just run. I’ve seen groups picking as runners the worst possible choices.

So, a glass cannon ele with 916 vit and 916 toughness? You get one-shot by trash mobs.

I’m running d/d ele with 916 toughness and 1166 vitality (to get 25 minor water trait) and I have no issues to stay alive. In fact, mate and I trolled once a group of “experienced only” and killed lupi with 12 stacks of empower (just the two of us, rest was chearing on us from the floor).

I haven’t seen it to target clones etc. with infection. However, it may target them during phase 2 transition.

He infected ranger’s pet twice during a transition into phase 2 while doing two different paths. He ate those grubs immediately.

What poor design?

  • Mobs that die the moment they spawn to nearby NPCs
  • An epic, climactic battle that is not epic and anticlimactic
  • The complete inability to die from any ability the boss can throw at you
  • 30 seconds of spamming #2 being the only part of the fight you need to participate in

It’s also worth repeating that just because it’s story mode doesn’t mean it should be a complete faceroll. When you start to settle for less the end result is the dungeon content in WoW.

Are you kidding, or mostly DPS team cannot do it with 4-1 tactic, and a team with less DPS and not using the 4-1 can do?

I’ve tried to kill her with just Weth once. We lack a bit dps for that, we couldn’t get her below 10% but that was mostly because she was petrifying us. That was just the two people. Once we invited another guy we 3manned her. So yea, most of those dps team that people want to have are either very bad at dealing damage or they’re plainly lying about their spec.

Secondly, thing I repeat yet another time, the most important aspect of that fight is how perfect your spark runs are, you don’t need 5 people in full zerkers, you need 2 people that are able to run sparks as fast as possible.

No dungeon/path should be over 25 min.

Yes many mobs in there are kind of annoying… if you don’t LoS or have any projectile reflect skills.

With those 2 things the dungeon becomes the same as anything else, so generally depends on your classes just like many other things that can be either or annoying depending on your classes (which is usually some combination of guard/war/mesmer >_>).

But I could see how it could be annoying.

Problem is, you base your evaluation on your party that consists of so-called 1st tier proffesions only. You should at the very least try doing it with 2nd tier which should represent more average approach to dungeons.

I’ll restate the obvious: the fact it’s story mode does not excuse poor game design.

What poor design? I’m all for reducing difficulty of story mode which was suppose to be for average player while explorables should be made harder.

I have two sets of armor and builds for my guard. For PvE I run full berzerk gear / soldier runes with 30/20/0/20/0 (I can’t manage without shouts removing conditions, or I’d go ruby orbs). For WvW (and some dungeons) I run full cleric gear / boon duration runes with 0/0/10/30/30 (Chris’ “Healway” build). Two drastically different play styles that are both super effective at what they do and fun to play

Now I’m curious what specific traits you take because those grandmaster traits are really bad. You could try putting 10 points from Zeal into Honour line and take Pure of Voice if you don’t use Hold the Line which doesn’t work with it (surprisingly works with soldier’s runes though) and then take ruby orbs.

Joined with Wethospu some party that was stucked at simin for some time. It was condition damage mes, some ranger and a tanky support guardian. We both run sparks, considering we’re rather experienced there. It took us 3 or 4 spark runs to kill and I even botched last run of 2 sparks so we had troubles with putting last one on right spot. Oh, and we didn’t use 4-1.

No dungeon/path should be over 25 min.

Lol I’m sorry but CM is cheap! Yeah I watched Wethospu’s CM solo video but I could tell he just had a ‘blast’ soloing that thing (/sarcasm).

The mobs in there are cheap. I don’t care if your group is amazing but snipers that aggro at stupid ranges, archers that use distortion multiple times for multiple seconds, bombers that spam cluster bomb AoEs all over the place, bandits that heal their allies and are armed with stability, bandits that stack bleeds and poison on you dang near non-stop…

Funny though, I run CM alot.

Ah, I see your point but I don’t necessarily feel like god mode is turned on, since I have to be actively engaged in play to stay alive. Same with my D/D ele, I have a lot of potential survivability, but I do have to work to keep it.

I think many classes can get close to this feeling when played correctly. In fact, these are probably the classes that people say are broken, like stealth build thieves, etc. But I think that this is actually a really promising combat system that ANet has built. If they ever get all the classes to where D/D ele and guardian are now, and the players know their classes well, combat could get very interesting.

I bet you play fotm d/d ele with 0/10/0/30/30 with pvt armour plus clerics trinkets. The situation where you have to work to keep up your survivability is not even comparable with more aggressive builds. They offer better rewards (mobs are dead faster) with more risk (imho more fun).

I honestly doubt that ANet wants you to run such tanky builds. They had to decrease difficulty before the launch after all.

As a reference, atm I play on my guardian with 20/25/0/20/5 with full zerker everything and ruby orbs on my armour. If those grandmaster traits weren’t so bad (except maybe RHS) I would definitely get more points in zeal or radiance.

The moment i announce i’m a necro suddenly i’m not even worth of getting a reply from 90% of the groups trying p4.

I’ve completed every other dungeon path and been to simin twice and still most groups don’t even want me solely because i’m a necro. They don’t bother to ask if i know what we’ll be doing, as soon as the word “necro” comes around i’m done for.

And again, DPS check isn’t a good measure of difficulty as well as 1 hit kills and permanent stuns from P2 are a lousy excuses to force groups to waste time to clear a path.
Team coordination to get a task done is one thing but gear checks and mindless skill spam to ensure damage output is simply brainless.

The groups that are not willing to take you are probably going to brute force that encounter for few hours.

Don’t even try it… he still thinks that Simin requires skill,… look at his last reply to me. He didn’t catch what I meant with a unique mechanic a compared it with things/CC’s you regularly do ingame.

I understand what you say, my friend and I both play with our GFs so we go Warrior/Guardian more tanky support (pow/tough/vit with group buffs and defensive skils) and they go ele/ranger for range safer dps lol. It’s a pretty solid group and we could beat any boss/dungeon except Simin, go figure… can you imagine trying to make a group like this work there? Even if we PUG Balthazar priest from the meta event as our 5th we would still not be able to do it…

Point is, this boss breaks all GW2 group potential as it doesn’t need anything the game has to offer and only takes max dps and mob herding… Yeah, real skill here guys!

Think what? Oh, you mean get more DPS and learn to herd the sparks properly. But you see, the sparks thing is just a mechanical thing and the DPS is based on gear and profession. The latter only translates to more time spent (wasted?) on grind to get gear some people wouldn’t normally use outside that one encounter.

The more I watch this thread the more convinced I am that Simin doesn’t work right all the time. First time we fought her (only did p4 with guild pple) we had very support-oriented builds. All our efforts to gear up for maximum DPS yielded the exact same results, both in terms of seconds to bring her to a certain % and in terms of her life total. It was EXACTLY the same, no matter if the first time we had 2 support-spec’d people and the second we were many times for DPS-y.

Think on getting right weapons/utility. Like I’ve said before, I had done it with various compositions including necros with blue gear, rangers and engineers. If you can’t beat her maybe it’s time to rethink your current tactics.
