If you guys are so much into open world pvp, why don’t you spend your time in wvw?

WvW isn’t open world PvP, it is much more structured, much more zergy and frankly the playerbase is much less “PvP” than you get in a PvP MMO or on a PvP server, as far as “open world” PvP goes it is a pretty poor substitute.

And how many people in an average megaserver map are “PvP” compared to any WvW borderland?

People are irrational creatures. I’ve seen many leave for various bad choices made by Anet over the years. Starting with the introduction of ascended gear. And Anet is really bad at judging the community response to things. Remember the gemstore debacle when you could buy only set amount of gems and no custom exchange (for gold)?

or some post by A-Net dev specifically stated that the whole “zerker meta” is a result of an overall design flaw within the game.

the design flaw is that zerker builds can evade damage with skilled use of dodge roll, not lack of trinity

Being skilled is a flaw?

Yes, because apparently it takes skill to stand in damage and live through it by having toughness or being healed by some druid spamming heals on you. Watching the boss and aoe circles and dodging… that’s a flaw.

I love people who kitten on trinity who clearly have never played a trinity based game or frankly any other MMO besides GW2.

Who said i did not play a trinity based game? I did my fair share of tanking, healing, dpsing. It’s actually not any better.

Well, the community obviously wants trinity, and people just don’t actually take the effort to think. Most people who complain about the stacking/zerk/dps/whatever keyword meta have never been in a dungeon anyway. They don’t know that you can do dungeons with your special snowflake build and have fun doing it. If you want to do a dungeon just by using retaliation to kill enemies, go for it.

Just because the most optimal way is a different one you should not be upset and do it your way.

There will always be A META.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: kolompi.1287

kolompi.1287

There may always be another meta, but maybe not so pervasive a meta. In Guild Wars 1 the meta for DOA was different from the meta for the Underworld. There wasn’t 1 meta for PvE stop.

In Guild Wars 1 you could solo most “high-end” pve content using SF and consumables. Pretty hard pve eh?

Besides, this whole meta argument is really unnecessary. The meta is merely the most optimal way of doing things. Nobody really forces you to use it. All the people hating on the berserker’s stats are hating on something they don’t understand.

Now the question is if it is wise to drive away thousands of players who had been around for ages while desperately looking for a way to reinvent the game.

Can we get mirror blade back to the normal bounces now that PU is being handled?

The excellent combat system in GW2 (in my opinion) has been left unused for very long time already in PvE, because “Full-Berserker-DPS-PassiveDefense” is superior over builds with more utility and variable team play.

I would like to point out that there is an error in your matrix there.

Full berserker DPS only works because of active defenses, not passive. Passive defenses are things that allow you to survive without your input. Full berserker DPS has no stats in passive defenses.

Time to separate agony resistance from armor

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: kolompi.1287

kolompi.1287

I think HOTS should be a good time to separate agony resistance from ascended armor set. I would like to see agony resistance become an account-wide stat just like magic find.

My reason for agony resistance being a bad thing tied to armor:
1. GW2 is advertised as a no-grind for stats game. However, to progress in fotm, you have to make ascended armors which are quite costly. And the ability to craft ascended armor has no correlation with one’s ability to do fractals.

2. Anet wants every profession to be versatile. However, with AR tied to armor, one has to stick to one set of armor which greatly limits build variety. If you want to switch from power to condie, you have to craft a complete new set of ascended armor. This is not fun.

3. I am also forced to run with limited professions. Heavy/medium/light gear type can only be shared among three professions.

4. Ascended armor is end-game gear. Being forced to put on AR in the infusion slot makes me feel awkward. Just in order to do fractals, I won’t be able to put other types of infusion in the slot.

With the new fractal line in the mastery system, I think there should be no problem for Anet to separate the AR progression from the gear progression.

Ok, you wanted to counter-argument 1-4. Let’s see.

1) The stat increase is 5%, you do not use ascended armour for stats. You don’t need to craft any ascended armour at all to progress in fractals. You can do level 49 fractals with 55AR from trinkets and your backpack. Furthermore you can get 70AR on trinkets, backpack. If you do not want to use AR on those and want the 30 from the armour, well that’s a choice you will have to make (omg, you have to decide…)

2) Anet does not really want every profession to be anything. You may want to have different stats for certain different encounters in which case you can either make more sets of ascended or just put enough AR on trinkets, backpack and have multiple exotic sets.

3) You’re not forced to run with limited professions. In fact you only need one light, one medium and one heavy set. Or you could – once again – have a fractals running set of trinkets which give you 70AR and equip your alts in exotics.

4) You don’t have to put AR on anything. Actually if that is your concern, acquire a set of backpack, trinkets, rings that you use exclusively for fractals. Load these up with 70AR worth of infusions. Store them in your bank. Build your chars for wvw, pve, whatever you want to. Then before you go into fractals, replace the 6 pieces of gear on your character of choice and rock on.

Voice acting is important for sure, but this is not a movie we are talking about where voice acting is half of the experience. Multi-million companies or not, they shouldn’t have to pay royalties to voice actors for games.

Like some have stated here, that money is better spent on programmers, visual and audio artists who make all the graphics (models, textures, effects) and sounds (ty for the farthorn and too bad you already changed it).

Quite frankly, there is a lot of awful voice acting in games but how often are you bothered by programming bugs, skills not working properly weird terrain anomalies, glitching textures, disconnecting and lags and how often by that cutscene that had bad voice acting?

You are not forced outside your preferred style of play. Fractals is PvE content and therefore it is listed as PvE daily. You already get your free items for just logging in. Don’t you think you should actually “achieve” getting the 10 achievement points?

Besides, the Dungeon crowd relentlessly harps on ANet for making PVE too easy… Well then, there is nothing like facing player controlled Mordrem to wipe that Zerker armor off your toon.

That would be awesome. See the party over there stacking might before a fight? Drop null field or well of corruption on them, then blind, then smack them to bits. Hah.

That’d be way too much fun. Sad that we won’t ever be able to do that.

Why not release SAB as a game for mobile devices? This would be a perfect solution for everyone. You wouldn’t have to worry about its impact on the game (GW2) but everybody who is enthusiastic about SAB could play it 24/7 on their mobile device (phone, tablet, whatever).

This could also bring new people into GW2 perhaps. People who meet the mobile game could be curious about where this came from.

You could add an option to import your GW2 char into this little game and play it with that one.

Anyways, make it happen.

An interesting idea, a completely impractical idea that doesn’t make sense, but an interesting one. Rather than fixing the problem with SAB in this game engine you would have them create a completely different game, from scratch, on a completely different platform. Every single thing, from level design to textures would have to be completely redone for this.

There is no way to port anything about GW2, nor SAB, such that it could just work on a mobile device. This is so much more work that it’s still. It would also be effectively impossible to do anything more than a side scroller, due to limitations in the controls and media. This removes the most endearing aspect of SAB which is the idea of being inside the platformer yourself rather than playing it on the screen.

Yes, thanks for saying exactly the same as i did. I would have them do that. And what the heck are you talking about being inside the platformer rather than playing it on the screen… what? It’s a 3D platformer, there is nothing about you being in it any more than that.

Pu mesmers in WvW need a change

in Mesmer

Posted by: kolompi.1287

kolompi.1287

But the biggest point is this: Roaming just doesn’t matter that much. I enjoy it, it sounds like you enjoy it, but we make pretty minimal impact to the overall WvW “score.” I can circle a borderland capping camps, even solo a tower here or there if I’m on a low tier and it’s an off-time. I can do something similar in EB. But at the end of the day, anything I do can be near-immediately undone by one or two enemies doing the exact same thing, likely in half the time.

This is simply not true.

I am mostly a WvWvW, playing on Desolation, EU rank 1 server. Roaming matters to score at least as much as blobbing does. You can deny enemy its supplies by sniping the dolyaks, upgrade camps (effectively draining them to close to zero supplies before larger enemy group flips them back), place supply traps, contest enemy keeps or even try to capture them on your own. I play like that pretty much every day and several people on my server have called me “MVP” = Most Valuable Player on the map.

Several times I have been on map where I solo flipped every tower and camp which our side owns. You do the flipping 2-3 minutes before the tick and you hold it for the tick.
You can also flip a keep with just 2 players.

And this has happened during busy prime time where there can be roughly up to 70-80 enemy players on each enemy side (a total of 140-160 enemies on the same map). Our side might have a zerg of their own, but they are doing gvg or having open field fights. Nevertheless it is roaming guys who matter the most when it comes to score.

Back to topic:
PU mesmers need a change. They have too much survivability and escapes compared to the amount of dps they can dish out. Either take shave off DPS or the reduce amount of stealth and increase the cooldown of blink.

I have often been roaming for 1 h and encounter almost solely just enemy mesmers. If almost the entire roaming player population is using just one profession, it tells that the balance is a bad joke and Arenanet should do something about it.

Playing PU mesmer doesn’t require much any skill. It is a very forgiving build, which can easily handle 2-4 enemy players alone, unless they are built to take down mesmers.

You seem like an experienced person. If you think that you will encounter a certain class in roaming, why don’t you do something crazy and come up with a build that makes it easy to beat that class? If you truly want to stay and fight that condi PU cancer, then at least be prepared. Otherwise what are you complaining about? That your average roaming build cannot hold against this rubbish troll build for troll people?

Condi PU is basically annoying and nothing else. But so are most other roaming builds because a good roaming build has to be able to sustain itself, win fights where it has a chance to win and escape from fights it cannot win. Otherwise it’s not a roaming build.

On the other hand people who feel like the game they are playing is buggy, full of cheaters, etc. or they have been killed by the 123rd guy using the same build that everyone knows is brokenly OP; these people are more likely to look for a way to fix what they think is wrong.
