If we start going towards this new feature that everyone can pick how their characters behave, it will take another 2 years before we see anything, if we ever see anything.

Well, congrats to everyone who complained about this minor and completely unimportant detail. Seriously, job well done.

I wonder if we’d say that the removal of these animations SPOILS IT ALL in the living story, would we get the animations back?

I have experienced “content worth an expansion” during the 2 years i’ve played but temporary content that is gone does not count. The same way as holidays that we go to never happened because we came back home.

Thanks Gaile for taking the time and effort and ask the animation team lead about this. I’ve serious problems processing the answer though.

  • Almost every patch that came out introduced some bug (sometimes more bugs) that were so serious that people were wondering how this could slip by the gametesters or QA.
  • The mesmer community (i main a mesmer) had a list of 40+ bugs out of which some 20 were actually gamebreaking in the way that skills did not activate, phantasms were “kicking dirt” instead of attacking, etc…. but it has been prioritized as not so important, instead we got some tooltip fixes (still important but more important than skills not working?)
  • Is the “bug” about the character yawning in the background REALLY that bad that it had to be removed?
  • How much time does an average human female spend in a LS2 cinematic and how much in town, waiting for world bosses, trading, and so on being idle?
  • If this has already been prioritized kitten insanely important that it just HAD to be removed so as not to break the cinematics, why does it have to be evaluated again and prioritized again? Isn’t it already established that it’s very important?

I don’t know why but i am still hoping it will be fixed and soon (not Soon™ but actually soon). Until then i have to say, i’m very disappointed with this whole approach, and i guess the adventurers and warriors can be happy about having their “look to the side, repeat, repeat, repeat” not-sexualized, politically correct, teen-approved idling.

“Strong, muscular men are a male power fantasy and not a female sexual fantasy.” – Really? So women generally want weak and unimpressive men?

Besides, when did it become standard that only men fantasize about women but women don’t fantasize about men? How does that even work? Is that not unfair and sexist towards men?

“Most” female armor does not serve any fantasies anyway as a bigger percentage is quite decent, unrevealing. Now nobody uses it but that’s another thing.

Back during the Scarlett LS the big hubbub was regarding this stretching animation being done during the scene where Kasmeer was talking to Marjory about her sister being dead. THAT was certainly inappropriate. I also, personally, don’t like ALL of the sexualization of my characters in GW2. My characters are warriors or adventurers and I think its silly for them to perform certain animations.

IMO, they should have 2 different sets of female animations: sexy / girly animations vs more athletic / adventurer animations. And people should be able to toggle the animations they prefer for their characters. To be fair, they could have two for males also

If they did that, the devs could choose the idle animations for their NPCs also. Sexy women in town could have the sexy animations, warrior women and the NPCs we interact with in serious circumstances could have the others.

So adventurers and warriors do not stretch… Also, what’s up with this sexualization thing? If men are displayed as strong, muscular and powerful is that not the same kind of sexualization? Why not have stick figures run around and poke each other with Twilight or Bolt to be 100% politically correct and don’t give teenagers the wrong idea about human beings having sex. Ever. Since that would totally ruin them for life.

How about… no? You can get these skins in dungeons or via the pvp tracks (you get armor and weapon chests too so the tracks are not that bad for this purpose).
It’s like torture? Then don’t do it to yourself and do something else.
You want the title/achievement? Then you have your options, use them and get it.

Can you stop crying about an elite which actually can be dodged (mesmer wasted the elite and has to deal with insane cooldown while you pressed one key). It can be blocked by some random aegis. If somehow you managed to not notice the sound and animation, you can still roll your face on the keyboard and hope to win (it’s all you must be doing anyway).

The “gemstore garbage” outfit is pretty amazing.

Your opinion.

I really wanted the animations to be fixed in this patch; is it still on the radar?

Edit: I’m tired of having to argue with this company to get back things that are removed. Town clothing, Gem/Gold custom conversions, and now animations.

Just like “garbage” was your opinion and pretty irrelevant too like you pointed out so why bring it up in the first place?
And the animations won’t be fixed, i bet someday someone at arenanet sat down to play the game for the first time and saw the animations. Then thought to themselves: “This is not appropriate, it has to be removed, what if 13 years olds see this?” Then it was gone “due to a bug”, and it will be classified a bug until everybody who cares about these animations is either gone or tired of asking for it. New players who have never seen them will not ask for them. Problem solved.

Note how every holiday is the same. Don’t people do the same “copy-pasted” things around Halloween, Christmas, New Year, etc?
I haven’t heard 90 years old people complain about having seen the same christmas every year for as long as they remember.

Because when they reach 90 they have dementia and cannot remember the past 90.

Because holidays are not meant to be all new but traditions and those are by definition repeating things that have gone before.

We should be more concerned about where we will be 1 year from now.
I mean any of us can drop dead at any moment! During the next year we could:

  • be victims of accidents
  • reckless drivers
  • high blood pressure
  • ozone layer failing
  • methane gas escaping
  • global warming
  • local conflicts
  • global conflicts
  • tax collectors
  • hurricanes, typhoons
  • lawsuits
  • etc….

I don’t foresee a bright future, maybe we should realize it’s all going downward and act accordingly.

The “gemstore garbage” outfit is pretty amazing, this thread is about the animations not coming back.
If it’s still classified as a “bug” then an arenanet dev should speak up and tell us when it’s going to be fixed. If it’s not a bug but intentional then tell us that so we are not left in the dark anymore.

And yes, you have to focus the engineer down just like you have to focus a necro or it’ll turn the team fight into a graveyard.

I will never understand people who play mmo’s based on some kind of checklist. It’s a game, if you like the game and find things to do in said game, it’s good for you. If you and the game don’t “click”, it does not matter if it has everything on your checklist, you won’t spend time in it.
On the other hand people will forgive a lot if they find a certain game enjoyable.
Thus new mmo launches don’t matter much.

The original debate was about whether or not you are a scumbag for playing PU.
You are, you will be very useless for your own team and rather pesky but not quite dangerous for the enemy.
Granted, you will still be able to cap points that are left completely undefended with the same speed that any other mesmer spec would.

“Yes, some new skills will overshadow others, and some will not be used at all. How is that any different than GW2 now, besides the point that GW2 has hardly produced anything new?”

How are 100 skills out of you would never touch 90 better than 10 that you actually use? It’s basically the same like you said. So you would prefer quantity over quality in skills but not armor?

If GW1 is soooo much better then GW2 why aren’t you playing that instead?

Anet abandoned GW1 like 7 years ago, and who’s to say that we aren’t still playing GW1? It only reflects positively on the game that it can go so long without any new content and still have so many loyal players… whereas GW2 has gone only 2 years with hardly any new (permanent) content and it doesn’t look like it could ever last another five in this state.

GW2 doesn’t even have basic functions that GW1 did, and there is no reason whatsoever to argue against many of the suggestions of “just do what you did for GW1”. Trait/skill templates, more skills, more classes, more interesting mechanics, more good skins (not clipping/stretching messes), more maps, more game modes, more PvE-PvP skill splits, more interesting enemies, more content… those are a few suggestions that you cannot possibly argue against.

Then there’s a lot more suggestions of “just do what GW1 did”, which could be argued against (make more challenging/complex skills/content, but that might “confuse new players”).

More skills = lots of duplicates, most skills weren’t even used. Ever.
Not clipping/stretching meshes? Are you for real? GW1 is a clipping nightmare.
More maps… yeah, more interesting or memorable? Nah. The larger areas like Crystal Desert or the Desolation were memorable but each map by itself?
More interesting enemies? I will agree with that. The groups were usually well-designed to use builds that synergize.
Templates? I fully agree.

One thing though, everyone who played GW1 should take off their 2" thick pink glasses and look at these games more objectively. I don’t mean list numbers but forget the whole "GW1 was better because… (i was younger, happier, etc….)

Also any level of fractals should not take 3 hours.

@Rebound: Ok, here’s what i did (i’ve crafted 4 legendaries so far, Twilight was sold because i don’t like the legendary gs skins)

Do the dailies, 5 events (usually world bosses that are active when i log on)
Do a daily fractals with the guild. Mostly between 21-50 depending on which guildies can join.
Do a dungeon or two also if there are guildies who are interested. I’ve stopped pugging a long time ago, it’s just not fun.
If noone wants to do dungeons, i do pvp because i actually enjoy it. Note that pvp isn’t known for the insane amount of gold you get for it.

I have a max. material storage stack size of 500 so every time i reach that, i upgrade t5 to t6 (might not be the best financially but i don’t care).
Salvage rares, sometimes do the orrian temple events. I tend to forget these.

@Rebound: Like i wrote before you can get that legendary without grinding. Now if you actively avoid doing things that give you gold in return then that’s a different scenario. But people who played 5000 hours in 2 years cannot claim they are not able to get their legendary.

You can actually get enough money way faster than 2 years even without said grind.

Well, that’s correct. I got The Bifrost by playing normally and grinding gold to buy the precursor, but it wasn’t pleasant at all since I like itemization, and the acquisition feels crappy.

There is also a big difference in how you accumulate that gold. If you do dungeons because you feel like “i want to buy the legend so i have to farm” then you probably won’t enjoy making it.

On the other hand you could just go do things with guildies, friends, stab people in wvw, whatever you fancy doing then some day realize you are actually able to craft a legendary without much effort.

The whole system is completely BS! There should have been NEVER a market for Precursors. Instead they should be a long term goal that rewards you with an account bound precursor. This could be implemented with a background story and fits perfectly with the scavenger hunt that was told to be in the game about 2 years ago. Also why the kitten are Legendaries even tradable?

The system is broken, and it is be cause to make $$$. There are a lot of players that pay for all the mats and precursors for their legendaries.

Because legendaries are one of the driving force of the economy and a massive goldsink.

The current system is not fair since it’s random, therefore it cannot be fair.

Actually, random is completely fair. Every single person has the exact same chance, making it the definition of fair.

People don’t like fair though. They say they do, but what they really mean when they say that is “I want a system whereby I get what I want and other people do not”.

You’re right about everybody having the same chance and that being fair. I meant that it’s not fair if someone gets 1-2 precursors in a day while others get nothing in 5000 hours. But then again, it’s a gamble, use it at your own risk.

Cool…make it 800 laureals is that better now?

But why? You can get that legendary done – without farming insanely – with the system we have now. Most people here wrote they played 5000 hours some even with zero afk. It’s really hard not to accumulate enough gold for any precursor in that time. So the system right now is working, it’s just not fair (not when someone throws 4 rare swords into the forge and gets zap on first try).
