I’d say around 130,000 concurrent users at prime time.
And Anet have sold 3.5mill+ copies worldwide. That’s ~3.7% of the total sales that actually play? Someone please tell me I have my figures wrong.
Well played Anet.
/rollinginit
edit: I read ‘concurrent users’, which means not everyone that plays. Allow for maybe 10% of the total population that bought a copy. Still…
Usually for mmorpg with subscription, only around 10% of the people logs on at the same time. For example 500,000 subscriber usually means 50,000 concurrent user.
No body plays 24 hours right?
You dont’ need to grind anything. Just play the game normally. Most people can make 10 gold easily by just playing the game.
In 2 month you can have your precursor by just playing the game.
Yes please, I’m so tired of having to level the alts over and over.
so roughly how much gold would it take to buy all the mats to level up to 80?
Doesn’t matter, I would be playing EVE if I wanted a clicking simulator or Microsoft Excel.
I’m all for lvl 80 scrolls too, and I don’t like crafting in this game either.
curious about a gold estimate for mats to do some gem/gold rates and conversions, so do you have a rough idea on cost?
I think about 130 gold to get every crafting profession to 400. Which will get you to level56. If you have a birthday booster that’ll give you free lvl20. You should be able to refine 4 level without spending much by leveling most profession from 400-425.
You can also spend 800$ real money on black lion chest. That might give you enough tome of knowledge to get to lvl80. Or 600$ if you have a birthday booster.
It’s already there. Buy enough black lion key and you can get enough Tome of Knowledge.
Thanks for supporting the cashshop
RNG and grind are two of those necessary evils in MMO games… they’re an easy way to make content repeatable, and content in an MMO pretty much has to be repeatable because there is no way a company can make content as fast as players can consume it.
I think players know that and understand that; the issue tends to be the degree and scale of RNG and grind.
I love farming and grinding. But you have to be able to OBTAIN these items, not farm gold to buy them because RNG is soooooo bad that there’s no other way… If I could go out and say have a 50% chance to get 1 (ONE) of the 250 (TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY) of a single PART of… ugh, you get the idea… If I could realistically farm these fragments, sure… But kitten buying them all… zzzz.
If you love farming and grinding I am going to wonder about you for a bit. Repeating the same process over and over is repetitive and boring no matter the rewards involved. If that is your fun is repeating the process just to obtain a reward I just got to wonder.
I am wondering so much I don’t know what to say but that is some carrot chasing. The only time I repeat the process is when I am trying to increase my skill at that task, such as jumping puzzles.
If I remember correctly there was a psychological test done on animals for this.
Farming can be relaxing but ONLY if it feels rewarding. How in the world are you going to “wonder about me” feeling okay with SOME level of grinding/farming, when you’re the one defending the grind in GW2, the same grind that I (someone who even CAN get behind grinding) feels is too much. Sounds like you need to be worrying about yourself… This ascended armor very much is a carrot chase. Once Legendary armor comes out, you’ll have another long run for the carrot. And guess what, it’ll be just as if not more grindy than this one. The problem isn’t that there Is a grind, its that it’s so much based on gold grinding and not farming the actual materials you need. They can’t up the drop rates because it would hurt the economy, thus yes. This game IS economy driven, and it is a very-very bad thing.
As I said before I don’t grind in this game cause there isn’t a need to grind. Your creating your own grind. Your trying to change the game to match your grinding gameplay which in the long run would hurt the core of the game. If you stop trying to force a grind into a game that does not want or need it than the game becomes fun. Why are you even trying to grind? Legendaries are a long term PvE goal as stated by Anet. The issue is that people are trying to force Long term goals into short-term time frames.
That’s incorrect. Getting ascended armor IS a grind. Just because you chose to not partake in it or care enough to shoot for it until it falls upon you doesn’t make it not a grind. For example you could play a Korean MMO that requires you to kill mobs for 3 years to go from level 1 to max level. You don’t care if you ever hit max, so you just play every once in a while and kill stuff. It’s still a grind, you just don’t so much CARE about reaching the goal. A grind is a grind, whether you are hardcore about it or not.
Like I said earlier my goal is to have full ascended on all 10 of my characters. I have a goal. Where your incorrect is the grind aspect. I do many different things and hardly ever repeat content. At this moment of time I can afford to make 1 set of full ascended armour for my warrior. I choose not to at this time cause I want to gain most of the materials myself without relying on the TP and not farming for them.
Hell the only thing I grind is map completion on my characters but that is wide grind as it encompasses the entire game.
I thought my goal of 40 map completion on 40 character is ridiculous.
But after seeing how high standard you set for yourself(acquiring 250,000 silk without using the TP). It makes me believe my goal is possible. Your my idol!
Yeah, exactly. These numbers are ridiculous. And that’s just one of the materials needed overall..
I said most did not say all. Plus I have a large stock pile of silk. I been stock piling silk for over a year. So 1 year of silk is already in my possession (can’t say how much atm cause i am not at home). There is also other materials needed.
Silk also has the highest salvage rate other than leather in the game. Which means you can get a ton of it from salvaging drops (which FOTM gives a lot of).
In all fairness, I’m just saying there is a TP for a reason.
I’m just making a joke. Not really involve in this grind rng argument.

It depend how tedious the precursor crafting is. No one knows.
It’s probably really tedious.
No one is going to switch to other set just because of 10% reduce effective.
“In most games, you go out and you have really fun tasks occasionally that you get to do and the rest of the game is this boring grind to get to the fun stuff. I swong a sword. I swong a sword again. Hey! I swong it again and that’s great. We just don’t want players to grind in Guild Wars 2. No one enjoys that, no one finds it fun, we want to change the way that people view combat.”
Anet must find their own game horribly boring as what they described as no fun is what most of their game is made of.
I don’t think they lied. You don’t need to grind to play any aspect of the game.
The problem is this game just don’t have thousands of hours of “fun content”. (actually no games have).
I use the word “fun” as symbolic of non-repetitive content here. So please don’t respond you have thousands of hours of play time and still ahving fun.
(edited by laokoko.7403)
So then it might look like a grind but looking over the complete collection every mini requires a different approach meaning it is not so much a grind anymore in total but more farming.
I think Devata point out exactly what I’m trying to say.
While other mmorpg make you do repetitive things. At least they give you new maps to farm every 100 hours, new dungeon to play after you done it 50 times. New daily to do after a couple of month.
1 year later in GW2, I’m still doing the same dungeon I done last year, I’m still farming in the same zone, the daily the same everyday.
Grant the main reason is this game “is designed for casuals”, so Anet made all the content present to you right after you reach lvl80.
But I find that as a problem for a “grinder”, since grinding is more boring in this game compare to other. I have new things to look for if I grind in other games, new dungeon, new area, new daily. But in this game, there is no reward for grinding. You can play everything right after you reached lvl80.
To me it’s really the context.
If you look around, everyone is doing the same thing everyday.
Why do you have 10 characters?
5 races
2 genders per race
so 10 charactersWould have stopped at 8 since there are only 8 classes but wanted to have a full set.
None of my characters are mules.Exactly. I have 8 level80 with full map completion and personal story done. And a total of 13 level80.
If this game actually have an endgame to play, people won’t have that many level80. Since this game have no endgame, people end up doing AC or COF or fractal everyday which is the same thing they did 1 year ago.
The guy above your post said it “And add in the fact that raids and battlegrounds offer an actual, FUN gearing process and compare it to the tedious crafting grind here. Guess who wins?”
This game is in fact very casual. But when you try to play it hardcore you wind up doing the same thing everyday. “same daily, same dungeon, same farming”.
Agree on your last point.
GW2 endgame however from what i seen is do what you want type of end game where the ultimate goal is to have fun which is different from previous MMORPGs. This is causing many of the issues since most people are coming from games where the goal is set in place long before they even started playing. Creating their own goals rather than goals placed for them.
I don’t even know what goals you are talking about. There are nothing to do.
There are no content casual players can’t do. If I already can do every content as a casual players, why would I want to play hardcore.
You make your own goals so I can’t help you there. I have my own goals made.
I don’t have any goals. All the goals are completed 1 years ago. It is so casual, I completed all my goals 1 year ago.
To me it’s really the context.

Why do you have 10 characters?
I just don’t understand why every episode of Pokemon have to be about Team Rocket trying to steal Pikachu.
After watching 820 episode of Pokemon, I tell myself I hope Team Rocket die already.
Why am I talking about Pokemon? Because that’s what I felt about Scarlet right now.
I hope people stop complaining. Just see what Anet did to karma and silk.
I remember the time when people complain about how useless karma and silk is.
pretty sure you can’t get the recipe any more it’s account bound from a previous event. you can still buy the rune from trading post though.
ya i mean if you play a lot, there are other things to do beside monthly.
For people that play only a few. daily and monthly are pretty much the only few things they could do.
Hearts were never meant to be quests. They were meant to slow people down so they could find the quests, which are dynamic events. Do you realize most hearts can be filled without doing ANYTHING they ask for. That is you do an event in the area, and the heart itself gets filled. That’s because the heart isn’t the meat of the game.
Dynamic events are.
I think you might be missing the point. Why are they still there? I don’t want to be running errands and working for NPCs I just want to play and have fun…
I didn’t miss your point, you missed mine.
When the game first was in beta, they didn’t have hearts. They didn’t exist. They were added to fill a need. People were running through areas, and not finding events. They weren’t even participating in events.
One dev tells a story about watching a person run past a burning house and he asked, why didn’t you go in there and the person said, because I didn’t have a quest to go inside.
But since you can ignore hearts, most of them, and fill them by doing the events in the area, it’s not a problem if you want adventure.
Some people need them and that’s why they’re there.
Fair point, but why can’t quests be more like they are in say Skyrim? Why do they have to be boring chores?
They could be. That’s why you get personal story in GW2.
It’s easier to fit the whole game to 1 player(without instance) than 1 million other player.
Skyrim could destroy a whole city just for 1 player. They can’t if there are 1 million other players.
Doesn’t have to be exactly like Skyrim, i just meant the side quests in Skyrim were more interesting then the generic ones we have in MMORPGs. To say that MMORPGs need this crap is a kind of short sited and a cop out, don’t you think?
Of course. But if you want those you can just go play single player game. MMORPG need to focus on grouping part, economy, playing with other.
As good as skyrim is I still only have 100 playing hours. And I have over 3000 in GW2. Sure, there are people with thousands of playing hours in skyrim too, but that’s the exception. Majority of people playing skyrim have far less playing hour compare to an mmorpg. That’s not the focus in mmorpg.
Sure I get the it could be better part.

The stats combination is the same. But one focus more on power? and the other focus more on crit chance.
Kind of like soldier and sentinel gear. Same stats combo. But the primary stats is difference.

sorry. I think something to do with crafting then. You can craft exotic jewel with the orb but not the crest.

Maybe the logic is don’t put pve content in pvp area.
Why do you want to wvw with people that don’t even want to be there?
Someone said Teq have a kill rate of 3% base on API. Stop blaming the people’s server.
Try to join those organized group. That’s your best chance to take world boss down.
You could just give every class the ability to spec into either tank/heal/dps.
Say a banner warrior could be a healer. Or a necro could use pet to tank etc.
do you loss money opening all those moldy bag?
just take your time opening those moldy bag and resell.
And you can just buy those from the trading post.
You start by finding the best way to “farm gold”

I was so disappointed GW2 dont’ have hybrid class. But at least I can play a hybrid class on the forum.
Does anyone know if any PvE content is being added? I’m not big in to the wvw thing.
Just some interesting facts:
I far as I know, there is a limit of 36 character slot.
And at level 20, you get 1 exp bar per champ. It reduces to 0.7 bar at level 30, i think.
I think I have 39 character slot. If you mean as in how many character you can have in an account. I believe many people said they have more.
I went to test at lvl23. I get 5.4% of a level killing oak., so that is 0.54 bar.
I’m sorry Laokoko, I’ve lost you. What Human healing skill and Norn running are you mentioning?
human have a skill prayer of dwayna. I’m not saying big deal. I’m saying it is a different skill compare to the other guardian healing. I remember one of the old pve players use prayer of dwayna so he don’t have to spend 10 traits to get signet of resolve to 32 second.
Norn have a charge skill I think if you charge in to a wall it’ll do massive damage so some people like to use the bug. You can also run faster while harvesting. One of the animal skill can make you run very fast for a short period of time.
Beside the traits, the rest is up to you. You can decide on your own. I dont’ think the trait skill is that big a deal though. Just saying it is something people can consider.
The good thing with human is the human heal is actually useful. Which make you more flexible. I can put my trait points else where without getting the trait which reduce signet healing time.
Norn get a super running which is good for bugging out and do good damage for a while(is it fixed). Or running faster for harvesting.
I’m just teasing you.
Good thing most of the people(including me) dont’ care that much about achievement.
Quite honestly, I dont’ think people are griefing you on purpose. The chance let’s say 5×5=25 people all dodged the attack isn’t high.
I think Anet just put those achievement, because they are running of ideas. They have to add some achievement for the events.
Reminds me when Vayne says people’s way of playing is affecting others.
So back to Vayne, I’m sorry stop bothering other people. You’ll way of playing is bothering other people.
Actually my way of playing is trying to support the community. When someone is trolling, they’re not supporting the community.
I’m asking Anet to make events less trollable… and make the game more fun for players like me. I’m sure taking the “random” elements out of getting achievements won’t ruin the game for more people than leaving them in.
They are trolling you because they are a bad player that can’t dodge. Or better yet, they just don’t care about the achievement?
You know maybe this event would be better if it is “instanced”. Cough Cough.
You know everytime the wvw map completion topic come up. Someone would say to find a group of like minded people to get the poi. Maybe you should find a group of like minded people that want to do the achievement together.
Reminds me when Vayne says people’s way of playing is affecting others.
So back to Vayne, I’m sorry stop bothering other people. You’ll way of playing is bothering other people.
My suggestion on the theif class is use “sword pistol” for multiple enemy “dagger dagger” for single enemy or moving faster.
Try to get the signet which move faster as soon as possible it’ll save you some time.
if you have trouble killign enemy just switch to sword pistol and spam the blinding skill “I believe it is the 5 skill”.
I can’t remember the last time a new players actually complain about the queensdale train.
I think the people complaining about queensdale train isn’t even newbie.
The majority of the complaint I heard is about the lack of people in the other zones. At least newbies have people to play with if that’s what they choose now.
Three days ago there was a post on reddit about it. Not complaining about the champ train. A guy complaining that he was bored with Guild Wars 2, because there was nothing to do, because all anyone did was run around in circles.
I kind of have the same problem running out things to do. But that’s what 3000+ hours of game time to do you.
I dont’ know how many of those train followers are actually new players. I thought people are smart enough to make their own mind what to do.
But there are many players know what the game have to offer. But they choose to follow the train because that’s something they want to do.
Quite honestly, it’s just grinding. Weather it’s grinding dungeon, grinding harvesting, grinding champ train, it’s all the same to me. And many people probably felt the same.
I can visit the support page now. thank you.
Hate to break this to you folks but the real “farmers” are not in the champ trains, they are in SE p1 farming the crap out of it. Those people in the trains are in fact, normal players who just want to get stuffs without faffing around for 6 hours and getting jack.
All I keep hearing is is jealousy and envy that some players are having fun and getting rewarded for doing so. There is no real reason to break up the players in QD other than spite.
From what I’ve heard Queensdale champ train was for karma farming. And I thought I saw a thread in the dungeon subforum that alluded to dungeons not rewording karma.
So they could be farmers. Just not loot or money farmers.
at 80, the QD champs give 10k(ish) xp and 200(ish) karma.
200 Karma
a round of 5 champs excluding spider but including wasp gives 1000(ish) karma.
hardly a major karma farm.
But how long and how many people are needed for those events vs those at higher levels? How likely are the events to succeed? How likely are they to glitch out?
It’s a karma/hour rate, how much risk is involved, and the chances of success that make the QD train the spot to go to for karma.
I can’t recall how much karma fractal gives. I think teq gives 20k. There isn’t even much people doing teq and you get like 100 times more karma.
Try to actually check the level of people farming there. I doubt many of them are actually lvl80.
And even if that’s the best way to farm karma. I’d say 5000 champion for a legendary or something like 2500 champion to get a set of ascended armor is bad enough.
Karma per hour with a high level of success? I seem to recall Teq not spawning very often or having a very reliable success rate unless you manage to get to the main server or a good overflow (the latter is much harder).
Now I’m not saying that ANet should just let the train remain. It’s just nerfing the train will not solve the problem that caused the train to form in the first place. And it will just be a circle if they nerf farm spots. Nerf enough other stuff because the farmers go there and the farmers will eventually be back in Queensdale.
oh good lord. if someone want to kill 5000 champ for a legendary weapon let them. It’s only 150+ hours of farming. Just for the karma! That is presume no one is kill stealing oak!
So ANet should sit back and not change things and not attempt to have people spread out in the world?
I do not a problem with the train. I have a problem with the reason the train exists. That is the problem I want fixed. What happens to the train after that gets fixed I do not care.
Have you seen the world before karma train appeared? It’s pretty empty too. You just think stopping the train will help when it won’t change anything.
I don’t do the QD train, so I really don’t care. But think of it this way. Stopping 20 people doing the train is like adding 1 person to each of the 20 maps. That is assuming all of them arn’t doing dungeon or wvw. It won’t change anything.

I actually wrote it to show the guy is right. Tequal is dead in many server. I didn’t say there isn’t many tequal kill happening.
I was talking about populations, considering how frequently he is killed on larger servers (where there are more people) then he’s not exactly dead even if many servers don’t do it, particularly since guesting makes “my server doesn’t do X” irrelevant.
well I don’t know about TTS. But many of the kills might be from TTS. So I’m not sure many server actually do them. Maybe TTS just happened to guest there at that time.
Out of the 5 kills I’d say a few of them actually are from small server.
I think beside BG. I’m not sure any server actually regularly do them, beside TTS doing them. If you know any server regularly do them(not because of TTS) let me know.
And I’m not implying anything. Only thing I imply is if you really want to do those open world raid. Try joining a raiding guild.

5 out of 24. right after reset. Not sure what this prove.
And it is kind of hard to tell which server is doable. Unless you join a teq raiding guild.
5 of the most populated servers and a handful of overflows.

And I’m mainly just telling people if you really want to do it so badly. Join a raiding guild. Or find friend on the few top server who can guest you.

^ I think there are 24 US server. Only 2 main server did the last Tequal. Nothing wrong with what he says.
If you really want to kill Teq. Join a guild which do them. It’s not hard. The problem is I dont’ think most people cares.
That’s because the last Tequatl event was during working (and school) hours on a weekday. No surprise at all that turnout was low.
Wait until primetime and check again.

^ exactly you can’t do it because you have 20 good players and 80 bad players. If you get rid of those 80 bad players or teach them into good players you might have a chance.
anything wrong with what I said?
^ The most important part about any raid is to kick the bad players out.
If you are not dedicated enough to take a few minutes to register to a raiding guild, you are probably not dedicated enough(aka one of the bad players).
If you actually join a dedicated raiding group in which everyone cares. They’ll have the stats, consumable, everything ready.

If the watchwork pick bonus replace the bonus of getting another gem. say 0 chance of getting bonus gem.
Does that mean watchwork pick actually sucks(makes you less money)? if sprocket price stay at what it is now.
Just saying it.
