Is there a permanent version of royal Terrace?
But in GW2, the difference is it’s more profitable to play the TP than the other aspect of the game. There is only 1000 other mmorpg out there, I would say it is one of the few similar to Diablo(before they cancel the auction house), you are much better sitting infront of the TP and neglecting the other part of the game if you want to be rich.
I still don’t understand why that’s a problem. As long as you don’t need to be rich to play the game, who cares? If you don’t have fun messing with the TP, play the parts of the game that are fun, and forget about being virtually rich.
I do think there could be a lot more diverse and “cool” items for players to earn by playing instead of buy with gold.
I think it’s the part where if I want say a legendary weapon or ascended armor, I would be better of playing the TP than the actual game.
In other game if you want a shiny weapon you actual go out and do dungeon and pvp.
That being said, you still need a starting money if you want to play the TP in GW2.
I don’t even play the game any more. I probably login 1 hour a month and I make more money than some people who play a couple hours a day everyday.
They need to nerf berserker more if they want people to actually use other gears for pve.
There’s only like 1000 mmorpg out there. I think in most of them, the TP plays a big roll.
So in other games, you need to rely on the TP also.
Nobody cares about PvE where no one cares if youre exotic or ascended.
With this attitude, why should anyone care about your problem?
I care about pve. I dont’ care about pvp at all. That being said, I’m not even sure if berserker is nerfed for wvw or spvp.
^ Maybe he spend too much time arguing about the definition of terms and forget to talk about the context of the topic is about.
For example he keeps talking about players setting the price on precursor in a topic called if precursor is too expensive. The topic is about if precursor is too expensive, it is not about players set the price and not Anet.
I don’t know why he keep talking about different topic. If he want to talk about different topic he could creat a new post.
Some one should put up a dps comparison to show the difference.
I would gladly bet you are actually selling your assets to other flippers, without realizing it.
I raise you and admit that I even bought stuff from myself once in a while, while buying up the supply of an item to a certain price level and not realizing i still had some open listings in that range.
And if flippers are overwhelmingly selling to themselves, it amounts to speculation if the foundation is made up of speculators. The flippers at the top are making gold off of the speculators at the bottom, who themselves made gold off of market fluctuation. Speculation is transitive.
But all this is missing the point. For all I know or care, speculation is fantastically health for the game’s economy. My question was this: how is a speculation-driven economy good for the game? Why should speculation be a mandatory aspect of the game? Why favor that for a system where dungeon runs and minimal farming are all you need?
If a Flipper sells to a Speculator, that doesn’t mean the Flipper is now a Speculator.
As for the second paragraph, a “free market” is good for the game. Speculation is a part of that market, and it’s not mandatory by any means.
I dont’ know why you care so much about definition. Like you are a english teacher or something.
I presume the topic is about why investing is such a big part of this game. And how the market fluctuate so much.
I think the problem is pve is easy enough, that’s why everone is wearing berserker. Making the game easier wont’ help.
I don’t know why anyone would want to swap to other stats. Even with the 10% nerf, berserker is still the goto set for pve.
I havn’t played for a couple of month. But when I used to play, it is really easy to form a group. Just make a group called “anyone welcome” and it’s filled in minutes.
The only problem is the group is usually bad that the dungeon take a few hours. Compare to a group of lvl80 pros.
The problem isn’t finding a group. The problem is finding a group which can do it fast.
I think it’s the part where market fluctuate so much in this game.
You have speculation in other game, but the market just don’t fluctuate that much.
why does it even matter? You still are going to wear berserker for doing map completion or dungeon etc.
Because the pve game is so easy. It is pointless to wear anything other than berserker.
If you intend to do your map completion I suggest do the wvw part as soon as possible. Dont’ wait to start it after you finish the pve maps.
If there is a website or app which show captured point, it should be as easy as checking it a couple time a day. The main thing is patient.
Maybe legendary armor can fix some of the silk sinks. It will require a precursor right?
I have the personal merchant express. I was never able to let my allies use my merchant.
But I havn’t played for 3 month so…
OP, do you think if I start a new thread asking for a free Gift of Sunrise because I don’t want to run AC, Anet will give it to me?
I havn’t played for a few month so I dont’ know how much wvw changed.
The point is I can get 500 AC token in 3 days or maybe even 1 days by just playing a couple hours a day.
But even if I play 24 hours a day for 2 month, I “might” still not get wvw map completion. It’s one of the things that rely on luck.
I have 15 gift of exploration stack in my bank.
It was quite frustrated for me. But I think it is much easier now since the map start to rotate. I think even if your luck is terrible you should be able to get all of it in 2 month.
I kind of is waiting for new black lion weapon to be release. They usually sit at 50gold and steady go up in price. I’m not sure when the last time new black lion weapon is release. I spend all of my gold on hallowean weapons before. Made a bunch of money from selling material, and is hoping for new black lion weapon to come out.
I have a couple of thsouand gold stock up. Is there any event item worth stocking up?
Since I barely play the game any more. If I invest in material it’ll fluctuate in price.
God forbid, 30 minutes of crafting to get to 500. Woe is you.
Nothing to do with crafting—that part is easy.
It’s the grind, the time gating, the cost, the time getting everything that slows down the process. The Time and cost to get to 500.
Made one and working on a second, but it’s not my focus—it’ll happen.
I think it’s the part where everyone is complaining about crafting.
But clicking a few buttons barely taken any time. It’s the collection of material and gold which is tedious.
I havn’t done the ascended armor. But my experience with ascended weapon, is beside the 500 gold used and the enourmous amount of time farming world event and dungeon. THe actual crafting part barely takes any time.
There is nothing wrong with orr. It is the same in other area. Beside maybe the champ farm in 2 zones.
There is just nothing to do in orr beside a few event for ascended material and map completion.
no they said about 400k at headstart. Most likely that is the peak. Because they already presold million of copies.
If you want 400k steady concurrent user, you’ll need 4 million players. I dont’ even think GW2 sold that many copies. And I dont’ think GW2 have 100% retention rate after 1 year.
Is it actually confirmed that said concurrency is actually from right after release though?
I honestly don’t know. I think that is coming from the first year anniversiry infographic. I think they have numbers posted for china website, I can’t remember the number.
But if you check the record in 2012, the number seems to match since that’s what they said at that time. At head start they have 400k simultaneous online player.
I just do map completion. I think I got all 8 character to 100% map completion before I quit this game.
The fastest way is obviously crafting. But if you intend to finish your map completion, you might as well do it the same time you are lvling.
Final Fantasy XIV, the reproposition of one of the biggest fail in MMO’s recent history, managed to get almost 400K concurrent users online not even a week after release…
I still don’t understand why ANet was boasting so much…The bolded part is very important here.
And since it is apparently common knowledge wouldn’t that mean they are boasting as well?
I dont’ think Anet is boasting it, they are saying the exact samething. the 460k concurrent is right after release. Not only that, the company boasting new data is the china company, which isn’t technically Anet. Anet pretty much kept quite all this time about user data.
All the server says very now….3 months ago not all of them are like that. I do believe we have more players now then before.
Maybe they just change it so people like you will believe it.
Don’t get me wrong I think GW2 is doing well to market standard. I just don’t think the word “very high” actually mean something. I’ll probably even call it manipulation.
People like to jump on the backwagon. If Anet dont’ name their server very high, they’ll get bash on public gaming forum. Which I dont’ think really mean anything. They never release any public info.
And u know all this because u work for them….? Yea that’s what i thought u don’t. Maybe that’s what people like u would do when your game fails.
I actually really like GW2. And I think it is doing well.
My belief is the server population isn’t dynamically changed. It is manually changed. Because a while ago, I notice a bunch of server population all changed at the same time. If it is dynamically changed by actual server population, that is unlikely to happen.
That’s not entirely correct. The server population seems to change dynamically (or at least i haven’t seen anything that would imply otherwise). The sudden changes of population levels across the servers are not a result of population change, though, but of Anet adjusting population caps. Which they do. Frequently.
Of course, as a consequence of such adjustments, we simply cannot compare server populations between once and now. After all, today’s high population may be actually lower that low population half a year ago.
I think that’s the point. Very high could mean 10k a few month ago. And they can change that to 7k now. Which means that’s quite pointless.
I remember a bunch of server changed population from very high to high and medium instantly. That is right after someone showed a video of a server with no one doing dynamic event at peak time. And after a while all the medium and high server changed to very high again instantly. I really don’t think it mean anything.
Infact they should actually change some of the server population from very high to high or medium to disguish the population difference. But for PR reason, they won’t do it.

^ I think that’s probably more to do with the buy 2 play nature. The reason why I say GW2 is doing pretty well is because at least they are doing better than the other mmorpg company.
Which is quite surprising to me. The other f2p/subscription hybrid games isn’t making as much money. And I’m quite surprise GW2 cashshop is even generating money compare to the other pay 2 win games.
(edited by laokoko.7403)
NCsoft do release their financial report. I doubt COH even made the list of games that make money on the report before they got shut down. They are probably put into a category of “the other games” on their financial report.
I’d say GW2 is doing pretty good by its sales figure. I’m not sure on revenue because I don’t know how much the cost of maintain is. Need to wait for Q4 report.
And ya, NCsoft does have a history of axing games.

I have 1100 and Ihavn’t played in a few month.
You can probably change skill point to cash with promotion.
Now don’t get me wrong. I have no idea if GW2’s population increase or decrease in the past 3 month. I just think it is too hard to tell. And I have no matrix to indicate that.
All the server says very now….3 months ago not all of them are like that. I do believe we have more players now then before.

I’m not bashing GW2. I’m just telling you the reality of how internet marketing and PR works. I currently work for a company which sells weight loss product. And I’d go on internet and post good review and bash other competitor’s product. That is the reality of what is happening in the real world.
You have to understand it isn’t just a game to the people working at Anet, it is a job to them.

^I don’t even know how you guys estimate the numbers. It’s unrealistic to estimate unless you work in Anet.
But if you check on games that actually published number of concurrent users (for example Eve).
You’ll notice only about 1/10 of the people subscribe actually logs on at the same time.
So 460k is very unrealistic. First of all, you need to presume GW2 sold like 4.5 million copies. Not only that 100% of those players still logon every month.
Like someone said before 460k is most likely number pulled during release.
I think someone mentioned a full berserker set difference is about 14% compare to exotic.
But the trinket and maybe a weapon shouldn’t be too hard to get to at least close some gap.
I think the difference is GW2 advertise itself as this “non grindy game”.
The other mmorpg never advertise it that way.
Not to mention many former GW1 player bought GW2 because they thought there were be any power creep. Apparently there are at least some.
I don’t think that many people will be outrageous if this is another game forum. It’s just so they believed Anet won’t ever release any new tier which apparently they did.
Everybody for whom ascended is not a grind. Help me get full ascended for all my 8 alts, you are having fun grinding anyway.
Or give me yours, you don’t need it anyway as you are such a good players that can constantly dodge everything in white gear.
I can’t even imagine having a full set of top gear on 8 alts in any other mmorpg.
Maybe that’s why wow players joke about GW2’s endgame being making alt.
they are probably always interested. They just don’t have the money to buy it before.
I rushed to finish my ascended weapon in a few days. A bunch of my guidie want ascended weapon also. They just don’t have the money to do it as fast as me.
Real life money comes out of thin air too. A central bank purchase financial asset, send out loans, interest rates affect the money supply.
But I get it, GW2 generate much more money and try to make them disappear using tax.
(edited by laokoko.7403)
It’s both possible. But just because some rushers finish their set. Dont’ mean there isn’t a bunch of non rusher just getting started. Or people have alts.
I think the fluctuation of items is way over the top due to “event limit item” and “over focus on (gathering material) crafting/legendary”.
There are other mmorpg out there, but item fluctuate way more in GW2 compare to other online RPG games.
I don’t think they’ll release the number till GW2 start selling in China.
So it look good on PR how GW2 continues to sell well.
Except a lvl80 soldier doesn’t become similar to a level 35 defense character. All stats from PVT scale well so you get lots of extra.
Maybe people like to QQ how lvl80 berseker is too OPed in lower level content but no one ever complain about lvl80 soldier.
They nerfed lvl80 characters because too many people complained that either “lvl80 character is too easy in low level zones” or “lvl80 character is too much better than low level character”.
I dont’ see too many point on opening up new zones. If people are already complaining about empy zones. Making it bigger will just make it worse.
I think Anet some what realize it is hard to keep people playing if they don’t reward something. Not everyone care about cosmetic
More over Anet is trying to sell GW2 in asia. I suppose a power creep of some kind is needed.
I dont’ think it take long to acquire ascended gear. At least not for me. If I dont’ have the time to play mmorpg, I simply dont’ play it. Which I don’t right now.
The whole point of downscaling is to make sure a lvl80 player have the same power as a low level player.
Low level armor only have 2 stats. That’s why a huge chunk of crit damage is taken out to even the play field.
If you check the other armor with 3 stats. Similar things happened. I don’t see anything wrong with it.
Unfortunately that’s not correct.
Here are stats for a completely naked, untraited level 80 guardian with 1 ascended amulet on.Soldier amulet:
LA
1042 power
1001 vitality
1001 tough
916 precision (4% crit)
0% crit damageKessex
196 power
188 vitality
188 tough
172 precision (4% crit)
0% crit damageZerker amulet:
LA
1042 power
916 vitality
916 tough
1001 precision (8% crit)
9% crit damageKessex
196 power
172 vitality
172 tough
188 precision (8% crit)
2% crit damageIn all cases apart from the crit damage… the downscaling was to 18.8% of the original stats.
With the soldier amulet your average bonus damage went from being +2% in LA to +2% in Kessex. (No change).
With the zerker amulet your average bonus damage went from being +4.72% in LA to +4.16% in Kessex. (My zerker gear gave me a bigger boost in LA than it does in Kessex).
Scale that up to a full gearset and you see the loss in damage caused by incorrect scaling of crit damage.
You forgot the point. The point of downscaling is to make a lvl80 character at the same power as a low level character.
So a lvl80 berserker became similar to a lvl35 dps character.
And a lvl80 soldier became similar to a lvl35 defense character.
You are looking at the tiny picture instead of big picture. None of the low level gear even have crit damage. So it is compensated differently.
If you think a lvl35 dps character suck compare to a lvl35 defense character. Maybe you should complain about that instead. I’m not sure that is even the case.
(edited by laokoko.7403)
I dont’ know but you could turn 100 gold into 1000 gold if you invest in the right stuff.
I’m sitting at 2000 gold. and maybe another 1500 gold worth of things.
I wish I havn’t sold things like monocle etc. those things went up in price.
I stopped playing and came back and all my stuff raise in price. I guess I should come back in a few years and maybe all my stuff will become priceless.
I have a bunch of those. I don’t get why people want it. Quite useless. All the sigil and rune it make is quite useless isn’kitten I thought they nerfed the rune.
