And if you only wvw, kittened to be you. Since you can’t make money from wvw.
I’m going to call your bluff. I’ve made money at WvW before, just not at off-peak hours. All you have to do is not spend it on Golems getting blown up in ill-advises uses and not bankrolling upgrades for places which aren’t getting defended.
Also, sell everything.
I barely WvW. Havn’t even played the game for a few month so I don’t know how much things changed.
I mean WvW make much less money than PvE. At least it is like that before.
I don’t know but if veterans are leaving and you actually “expand the map”. The zone probably looks even more dead.
I think Anet just try to shift people from zone to zone and event to event. So more people will fit and group themself in to an area.
I quit this game a while ago. So I’m not sure about ascended armor.
But the way I see it. A full set of ascended gear probably cost about 700 gold at most.
That is probably 140 hours of pve playing. And if anyone dont’ have 140 hours of game time they probably shouldn’t be playing mmorpg.
And if you only wvw, kittened to be you. Since you can’t make money from wvw. But any pve player shouldn’t have a problem making enough money for a set of ascended gear. I think there should be more ways to acquire ascended gear for wvw player.
The whole point of downscaling is to make sure a lvl80 player have the same power as a low level player.
Low level armor only have 2 stats. That’s why a huge chunk of crit damage is taken out to even the play field.
If you check the other armor with 3 stats. Similar things happened. I don’t see anything wrong with it.
I don’t think anyone know the numbers unless Anet publish it.
And even if the number published, it is usually misleading numbers. For example xxx number of players, but they never describe when the number is recorded. They said 465,000 concurrent player, but they never say when that number is recorded.
I can honestly say the open zone is quite empty, with exception of a few server.
Most of the time you can help yourself by guesting though.
I think the game is easy enough you really can play with any class.
but that dont’ stop the fact warrior is a much “easier” class to play.
On a bright side, at least thief is a good harvester. I know I purposely made a few thief for harvesting.
Usually when I join a pug and see a warrior I’ll be happy because in my mind I’ll tell myself any dufus can play a warrior. I can’t say the same thing about thief, eventhough I seen some pretty good thief before.
I havn’t play for a few month. Quite supprising to see the market change.
Wonder if I should bother installing GW2 just to sell the silk scrap.
I can’t remember how many world completion I have. Since I quit this game for a while.
I think warrior is a good starting class to learn. But I dont’ think the difference is important. I probably can finish my world completion even faster on rogue. Just because it have great mobility.
The biggest trick is actually learn to use consumable. Try to check for utility item you can buy, that’ll make map completion much easier. For example seed turret or sky kit.
I live in Taiwan. I blame the government for high housing price.
Since if they just raise the tax like they did for Korea, the price won’t rise like that.
There are many mmorpg out there. And I can say plently of them have much better economy compare to this game.
Worse of all, Anet probably want the economy to be this way. So people’ll get the urge to buy gold.
(edited by laokoko.7403)
You can test it with a lvl80 and a low level down scaled character. The difference is really small.
The problem is most low level just don’t know how to play, either the game or their class.
If your doing the more popular dungeon, you shouldn’t have a problem finding a low level party. The problem is those party is usually painfully slow. People don’t know where to go.
Many times the dungeon start of with people dont’ even know where the dungeon is.
They’re talking about the accumulation in and of itself. This is also down to time-gated recipes and ascended stuff coming from very specific places, such as dragonite ore and dark matter.
So people are not complaining about crafting. People are complaining about doing dungeon, wvw, champ farming, world boss?
If people are complainig about that. Why are they asking about alternate way of getting ascended gear. You “ARE” getting ascended gear from wvw, farming, dungeon.
Spend the next 3 weeks in WvW then tell us how much dragonite you have accumulated. The problem with the way things are set up now, Anet is forcing you to play content you don’t enjoy in order to create these pieces of kitten in a reasonable time frame. I just spent the last 2 days just farming meta events and temples (wihich I find boring as hell) with my 3 alt and I still need to farm them for another 2-3 days inorder to get enough ascended mats to craft my armor and weapons. After that is done I have to wait another couple weeks inorder to craft all the time gated pieces (I’m looking at you Bolts of Damask). Anyone who find that enjoyable needs to get their head checked.
Exactly. Your problem is not with crafting (beside the time gated material which you can probably purchase from the AH anyway).
Your problem is you don’t want to farm temple which don’t have anything to do with crafting.
The time it takes to craft is negligible compare to “gathering the material”.
So stop blaming crafting. But blame the grind for doing “dungeon, wvw, world boss, chest farming, gold farming, champ farming”

I dont’ know why people keep talking about crafting.
Ascended gear is so tough to get not because “crafting is hard”. But because gathering the gold and material and gold is hard.
If you don’t want to spend the enourmous amount or hours in dungeon, farming, wvw, world boss farming just say it.
But please stop the excuse about clicking a few button “crafting” actually takes any time.
I can’t believe Anet forced us to take 1 minutes of our life to click a few button to craft gear. That is so wrong.
Not to mention how painful it is to spend 1 or 2 hours of our life maxing our crafting.
And don’t get me started on legendary weapon. I can’t believe Anet forced us to spend 1 second of our life to click a button to craft our legendary weapon.
I rather compalin about that 1 second instead of the few hundred hours that is required to gather the material for crafting ascended gear or legendary.
2 hours to max crafting? Stopped reading there.
I know right? If people can reach lvl80 in less than 3 hours before the 500 patch craft. It shouldn’t be too hard to max 1 craft in 2 hours.
The only difficult desicion. Is if you want to fast track since you can save 25 level of gold from 450-475. And again, what’s so difficult on clicking a button once a day.
I can’t believe Anet forced us to take 1 minutes of our life to click a few button to craft gear. That is so wrong.

Until you realize that you still need to do the time gated stuff to level up your crafting skills high enough to actually make the ascended equipment in the first place. Whether or not you can purchase the time gated mats off of the trading post you still have to get a crafting skill to a high enough level to actually make the ascended gear. And since the Ascended Gear is bound to you, you can’t simply have someone else craft it for you.
I’m pretty sure I can get to 500 crafting in a few hours if I have money. And if I dont’ it’ll take alot more than a few hours.
You still need to do “something” yourself, but with money it is much easier right?
pay 2 win means using real money to gain an advantage.
NOTHING IN THE GEM SHOP GIVES YOU AN ADVANTAGE OVER PLAYERS NOT BUYING/TRADING GOLD FOR GEMS.
In essence gw2 is not pay 2 win.
You can get everything in this game that would give you an “advantage” by buying it for the most part (ascended sort of excluded because you can’t by ascended pieces but the materials for it and because of the trinkets).
Seriously people need to learn what p2w means again.
The advantage is you don’t need to spend a few hundred hours doing something you dont’ want to look pretty.
I’m supprised that many people care that much about cosmetic. If you actually played the game, you know many people do right? Eventhough I dont’ and I can never understand why people care about cosmetic.
wow some people here really want to make gw2 look like it’s pay to win.
If you don’t know what pay to win looks like clearly you haven’t played/seen Diablo 3.. where you can literally use your credit card to become the most powerful being in the game while in gw2 even if you buy all your armor all your legendary weapons all your +30 AR whatever I will probably still be better than you with 10 AR
just saying~
That’s the thing, you dont’ care about beauty contest. And apparently many people do.
There really isn’t much difference between GW2 and “the other pay2win” game except you buy power in other game, and in this game you buy cosmetic.
Most of those p2w games, you dont’ have to pay to win too. You just need to play the game like a full time job. Since most of them have a cash to gem conversion system like in GW2. So anything from gem store can be bought with in game cash.
^ I played a bunch of other mmorpg. GW2 is doing exactly the same thing other cash shop company is doing. It is Pay 2 Win.
But on a scale of 0-10. It only get a scale1. Since other game studio is much much worse.
After playing a bunch of mmorpg what I realize is when the game matured, the conversion rates are usually related to real life income.
Everyone value things differently.
I dont’ care about gold, so it’s not p2w for me.
People who dont’ want to spend hundred of hours farming for fancy looking gear may think it is p2w.
So my conclusion is it is p2w. “But” it’s probably the least p2w cash shop mmorpg out there.
You are not unlucky. Your friend is just lucky.
and playing since beta don’t mean you actually play alot everyday.
and playing everyday dont’ mean you farm everyday.
If you do farm a few thousand hours you should have enough money even if you are unlucky.
And it’s not so much about Anet want to make money. It’s about why price is high now but not before.
Hm?
I am quite sure that everything in the gemstore costs exactly the same as it did back at release.
But the exchange rate is different. That is why people are complaining.
An item that take say 4 hours to farm would take much much longer. since the exchange rate goes up so much.
You don’t hear many people complain about gem rate before when exchange is cheap right?
People like to call that inflation. But of course John Smith will come out and say inflation have nothing to do with it.
(edited by laokoko.7403)
Regardless if the topic is about entitlement. It does take “much longer” to acquire gemstore item now compare to before.
And there you have it. Your argument boils down to “I can’t get gemstore items fast enough.” Here’s the thing. The gemstore items are:
1. Entirely cosmetic – You don’t NEED them to play the game
2. Meant to create revenue for A.NetIf there was no gem-gold exchange at all (Which is how things are in the majority of games with cash shops), that would still be fair. Here, A.Net has given you a way to get gemstore items even if you’re not spending real dollars, and you’re complaining that you’re not getting enough of it fast enough.
To illustrate your situation, I shall direct you to a story: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6Dc1ZBJB3U
I hope you arn’t talking to me, because all I said was people are complaining. I didn’t say I was complaining.
And it’s not so much about Anet want to make money. It’s about why price is high now but not before.
I was just presenting different points of view that people might actually be trying to talk about. If it’s just about acquiring items easier or cheaper, then the argument turns to the road of “entitlement”.
So yeah… just trying to steer the people to the right direction that the conversation should be headed.
Regardless if the topic is about entitlement. It does take “much longer” to acquire gemstore item now compare to before.
The forum is never about making people think you are right. But it is about expressing yourself. I can express myself, but that don’t mean you need to agree with me.
I dont’ think John Smith want you to know a small portion of people hold all the wealth.
It’s to ANet’s advantage to have a high gold-to-gem conversion because:
1. It suppresses gold farming by providing a better value to Players trying to buy gold
2. Reduces the ability to buy gems using in-game gold which results in more players buying gems with RL money.I imagine there’s some ceiling where it starts to become disadvantageous. Example: If you get 1,000,000 gold for a 100 gems then nobody would need to continue to buy gems to get gold because you get so much gold in the conversion. However if such a ridiculous conversion was in place then the economy would probably be in a horrible state due to inflation.
By then, it would have cost 1,300,000 Gold to get 100 Gems. But that hypothetical situation won’t happen, because there is a finite amount of Gems in the pot, and thus there is a ceiling as to how high the exchange rates get. I’m not sure how close we are to getting to that point, as no player knows how many Gems were put into the pot from day 1.
That’s why I never get what you are talking about. The guy is discussing the “best rates” to maximize Anet’s profit. For example a legendary cost 1500 gold. If exchange is high it does motivate people to buy gem to convert. But at the same time Anet could potentially make less money because the guy need to spend less real life cash to buy a legendary.
And you spend too much time emphasizing players set the price. Which is true. But the difficulty to acquire item have an influence on price too. Take for example, the government can’t set the price of american stock. That’s set by the buyer and seller. But the price of stock do go up or down depend of QE and interest rates which is controled by the government.
A house where I live is 2 to 3 times more expensive than house in other country. Because the house/land tax you need to pay is really low relative to the standard. If government have the guts to raise tax, the house price will burst. Obviously the price is set by buyer and seller. But the governemnt does have a influence on the housing price.
(edited by laokoko.7403)
To me, regulation means control. Anet’s formula is static since day one. The exchange rates are determined by the movement of the Gems and Gold in the pot.
If the conversation is about Anet making things cheaper for people, then we’re moving into the realm of “entitlement”. If the conversation is about who can effectively determine rates, it would be the players. It’s all self adjusting, as when the exchange rates get too wacky, the opposite exchanges will be made to bring down the rates.
That’s why I use the sentence “the supply of gem store item or motivation to convert gem to gold is regulated”.
It’s like the last topic. You spend all the time talking about economic. When really the complaint is about “skins and gear take way too long to acquire for some people”.
People are complaining it take much longer to get gemstore item with gold now. Since the exchange rate are much higher than before.
No one is even discussing the things you are discussing. Oh player set the price. People are not discussing about the price but the difficulty to acquire items.
One of the problem is the gem exchange system. While you may pay big buck for other game. You might not do it in this game since there is the gem exchange system.
They want to sell the dye for an unresaonable high price. But they know no one will buy it. So they put in RNG for those sucker who put in the cash.
They can just sell the dye directly and make decent profit. But obviously you think their make more money with the RNG chest, so there’s nothing more to say.
Or at least they could have put in the rate of items, which they obviously wouldn’t because less people will buy it if they know the true rate.
(edited by laokoko.7403)
If you are casual, you probably arn’t lvl80 yet. there are many thing to do.
It would make sense to steer the consumer towards the gem store to purchase gems and convert them to gold.
They dont’ necessary need to do that. Because they can just sell gemstore item(skins, black lion key) directly.
I played a bunch of game with this type of gem conversion. Usually they do try to steer customer to purchase gem to convert to gold.
But since GW2 have no power creed, or over abundance of convenient item, it is hard to convince people to buy gem to trade for gold.
Thus having a high gem price is probably best for Anet’s interest so people are more motivated to buy gemstore item with real cash.
If you are the type that want to change stat on the fly. You probably want to change your sigil too. That’s why legendary isn’t even that useful.
Just carry a bunch of weapon. Much cheaper and more useful.
challenging content will most likely have a fail rate. And people arn’t happy they can’t get the whatever reward they want like what happened to the last few event.
^ You’ll spend another essay of text telling people how player control and set the price.
I remind you I use the word regulate. I didn’t use the word control or set. Since you are really sensitive to the wording. Or maybe I should use the sentence the supply of gem store item or motivation to convert gem to gold is regulated.
It’s like people like using the word manipulate or investing on this forum. Eventhough they are techincally the same thing.
Like I said on another topic. People arn’t discussing weather price should be self regulated by whatever economic model. People are discussing weather or not Anet should step in to make gem price cheaper so it is easier for people to get gem store item without over farming or spending real cash.
(edited by laokoko.7403)
I won’t pay 3000 gold for a permanent hair license.
But I’ll pay more for a hair license than eternity.
Why would I want a sword which have such large particle effect you can’t even see anything.
I would rather have a hair license to change my appearance. if that really is the last hair license out there. I think it’s worth more than eternity.
I honestly can’t find too much reason to convert gem to gold. Since I can’t find any use of gold. That is probably one of the problem because people simply arn’t converting gem to gold.
So that keep the gem price high. So Anet probably loss out on making money from people converting gem to gold. On the other hand, if gem price is high. More people will be inclined to spend real cash instead of farming gold for cashshop item.
It works to make more money for the game studio. It dont’ work to make the player happy.
It probably is regulated. It just dont’ mean it is regulated to be cheaper.
I havn’t login for a very long time. For real life issue. And was wondering if it is still possible to get the candy corn node(for your home instance). And if it is easy to get.
Making items collectable would definately boost sells. Some times it cause burn out too since people just give up.
Anet is probably trying to say buy more gem. Because no one is buying gem, so the price went up.
Probably need to check the NCSOFT Q3 financial report to see if that’s true.
It’s possible to invest(manipulate) the gem price. The problem is the buy and sell price tax is so large. You are probably better of invest(manipulate) other item.
^ It have everything to do with supply and demand.
Some people were expecting grinning shield to come back again this Hallowean, which it didn’t. So some people either snatch it for 400 gold or some seller take their sell down.
The exotic mini price go up or down depend on weather Anet introduce new source of mini which can be mystic forge for exotic mini. When Anet introduce the supply, the price went down. When Anet cut it down. It went back up. The price went up in 1 day because Anet “fix” or stopped their supply.
You can’t expect people not to invest(or manipulate whatever you call it) when they expect item price to go up. That’s the basis of capitalism. That’s why communism failed even though it supposely to work great on paper. They failed to account for human natural. Being selfish is part of evolution and how species survive.
The only way to stop it is if Anet supposely did some regulation to hinder flipping, like some other people suggested.
People understand mmo is a business. That’s why they want Anet to change their price to 1$ intead of 10$, since they wont’ pay anything more than 1$.
Me on the other hand think Anet should sell item for 25cent, because 1$ is way too much. Who would pay those kind of cash since I won’t.
It’s true that people want freebies. Everyone would be happy with free stuff. But these people who don’t understand how business work, also don’t understand as to why wanting handouts is a bad thing in the big picture of things.
It’s called being self centered. I dont’ think anyone care about how the business works. They only care about themself. ‘’ Since I’ll only buy skins for 1$, Anet should listen to me and set the price to 1$ ’’
Or ‘’ Since I’m a customer, everything I said is over other customer ’’
(edited by laokoko.7403)
I didn’t read the thing. But obviously they should have a positive say about GW2 microstransaction.
If people played those other f2p mmorpg, they’ll know what I mean.
Can be sum up to Anet want to make money. Players(whiners) want to get items for cheap or near free.
But if they place 1 2 or 3 euros stuff me and not only me will buy more than one stuff wich cost 10 euro… is not a problem for me spend 2 euro today for a skin another 2 tomorrow for 20 black lion keys etc etc tbe problems is not to spend money but how to spend if they didnt change anything i dont think i will buy anything… i prefear to spend 50 euros for 50 things that 20 for 2… and like i told i m not the only one
You are not the center of the universe. Just because you won’t do it other people “might” do it.
Not saying you are wrong. But there need to be 10 people like you and only 1 person to buy it for 10$.
Pretty much every cash shop game use the GW2 model they have. With similar price.
There are games which use your model, but they usually dont’ have gem exchange system. I can just do a single dungeon to make 1$ worth of gold.
just saying~
