wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.
Did they say the new path was permanent?.. If that’s the case, big plus for Anet..
is the stuff to get the awards difficult to do? in a scale of 10 where tequatl is 9 where are they?
They’re not particularly difficult to get… but they will be time consuming. Getting the first few points is easy (you get 3 points just for linking accounts), but if you plan on getting all the rewards (30 points) expect several months of solid GW1 gameplay.
If I had the money, I’d be crafting the foefire weapons for my guardian right now, to transmute over the 2-5g exotics..
You can level up in any area up to 80, but it’ll always be more efficient going to areas near your actual level.
XP gained from events and killing mobs does scale, but you’ll still get a little bit more XP from level apropiate areas. Coin rewards don’t scale as much, and you won’t get as good loot, since when in a lower level area you have a chance of getting gear for your own level as loot, or for the area level, and the gathering and crafting loot you get will be based on the area level, so you won’t get high level materials.
That said, if you’re in a low level area where lots of events are going in (for example, Queensdale by following the champion train) you will level up quicker than in an apropiate level area but with very few events happening.
As everyone already said, don’t rely on dropped exotics to gear up, they’re really not that frequent at all (playing since release and still consider a pleasant surprise when one drops) and chances are if you happen to get one exotic to drop, it won’t be the type (light, medium, heavy) or with the stat distribution you’re looking for (which is why most people just toss them into the TP when they get one). There are lots of other ways to gear up with exotics without relying on the TP.
1.- Crafting. Check the guides on http://gw2crafts.net/ , leveling a crafting profesion to 400 (when you can start craftinc exotics) looks expensive, but if you’ve been gathering and playing to 80 you probably already have enough materials to level up at least one of them (tailoring, leatherworking or armorcrafting, depending on your profession). This is another source of exotics on the TP, btw…
2.- Dungeons. In my experience it’s easier to get exotic drops from dungeons than in the open world, but not by much. But each dungeon run will get you a little over 60 tokens, each piece of exotic armor costs between 180 to 330 tokens. Just check which dungeon armor vendor has the stats (and looks, each has unique skins) you want and go for it.
3.- Temple armor. The temples in orr give sell exotic armor for 40k karma a piece. Check this guide to see which temples sell the stats you want for each armor piece:
http://dulfy.net/2012/09/08/gw2-templegod-karma-armor-sets/
and this website to see which temples are open on which server (you can guest over to purchase the armor you want):
http://www.gw2state.com/temples.html
4.- WvW. When playing WvW you get badges of honor from kills, and also you can get lots of them from achievement chests every 500 achievement points. There are vendors inside WvW that sell exotic armor with different stat combinations for badges of honor and a bit of coin (you’d need 950 badges + little over 5g to get a full exotic set this way). Be aware, though, that you can also use badges of honor to purchase ascended accesories, the laurel vendor inside WvW sells the same accesories the ones on main cities sell, but for 10 laurels less + 250 badges of honor.
And of course you can also combine them all, maybe buying the cheapest pieces off dungeon merchants (head, gloves, feet), other pieces from temples, others from WvW and so on.

I’d like to join. I’ll send you a mail or whisper in game, but I won’t be able to get into the game until late tonight, so using this to try to get an early spot, just in case..
EDIT: the toons have at 80: DPS/support guardian (fully exotic/ascended except weapon), zerker warrior, condition mesmer (both fully exotic and some ascended), flamethrower engineer (exotic gear with a couple of rare accesories)

Did you finish the living story achievements?. The status message went away for me when I finished them and got the back wings, not sure if that’s how it’s supposed to work or whether it’s a bug.
Chances are not gonna happen in the foreseeable future.
SteamOS is linux based, GW2 engine seems to be very windows dependant for the time being. The mac version, for example, is basically a tweaked version of the windows client running trough cider (http://transgaming.com/cider), so basically it’s like releasing a linux version by making it sure it runs under wine and bundling it with the game… which is really the one way I can see GW2 running on steamOS (according to wine’s appDB GW2 does run in wine, but slower than under windows… which seems to mostly echo the OSX users experience).
Personally I disagree. I’ve done several fights, mostly in overflow, including two that were actually organized and had a TS server set up (most I’ve gotten it is just below 50%)…. and LOVED it so far.
Adding a proper raid system also brings some uglyness that I’m happy aren’t part of GW2, IMHO (we need 40 people, don’t mind if you’re not experienced/this class/this build, and so on), and goes against the general idea that “anyone can participate”, in my personal experience it ends up dividing the population on raiders and not raiders. It’s much better in the open world, at least in the context of GW2 (wouldn’t work in other raid centric games, though). It’s much easier to jump in when you hear “guild X or team Y are coordinating to kill tequatl” than it is to try a PUG in a regular raid system (at least in my experience).
Also, maybe I am lucky, but I’ve had mostly positive experiences of the fight so far. Granted, there are always negative comments (wouldn’t be the internet without them) but so far on every attempt I’ve made the ones with a positive attitude outweights them by far, thinking of strategies for the next time, joking around and things like that. Lots of people keep talking about how it’s fracturing the community… personally I feel quite the oposite. Thanks to it I’ve met and added to friends list commanders that were good at what they were doing, people from other servers I had fun playing with, friendly guilds and things like that I wouldn’t have met otherwise, and positively would have never met if it was a traditional instanced raid content.
Is it perfect?.. of course, not… far from it… waaay far. There are lots of issues with the fight as it is, problems with overflows, getting people together, getting good people on turret control (actually I made a thread elsewere suggesting a system to allow you to build 6 more turrets like you do sieges on WvW, with blueprints obtained in other events around the area like the krait attack to the lab), some (turrets, for example) I hope will be fixed, others (overflows) I do believe will tend to fix themselves over time as people move on to other things… but it’s the first attempt at very hard group content, I expect (and hope) for it to get refined in the future, and see more hard content added with the lessons learnt from this one, both good and bad ones.
Oh man. Okay let me be 100% clear for those people who are trying to find holes in a simple question:
Since the release of the Tequatl Rising patch, on how many servers (including all of their overflows) has Tequatl been defeated?
You all know what I meant.
Overflows is harder to know, since they’re multi server. At least I know I joined one overflow that had killed him before (several people were still there for the next attempt, I don’t know how it went, had to leave before it happened) and had people from at least 4 different servers on it.
I’ve always felt (and even made posts about it on the beta forums before release) that the AFK timer is way too long, specially considering WvW queues and now with events like these. Personally I feel that the AFK kick timer should be made much shorter if you’re on a WvW map or on a spot where an event like this happens, something like the time you’re given in sanctum sprint sounds good enough for this.
According to this thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/tequatl/Servers-that-have-beaten-Tequatl-add-yours/page/2 (possibly outdated, I went trough it adding servers to the list)
this is the list of servers that have beaten it so far:
NA
Blackgate
Tarnished Coast
Eredon Terrace
Sanctum of Rall
Jade Quarry
Stormbluff Isle
Darkhaven
Yak’s Bend
Gate of Madness
Crystal Desert
Fort Aspenwood
Dragonbrand
Ehmry Bay
EU
Aurora Glade
Desolation
Vabbi
Elona Reach
Seafarer’s Rest
Piken Square
Fissure of Woe
Gunnar’s Hold
Riverside
Gandara
Seafarer’s Rest
Far Shiverpeaks
Underworld
Baruch Bay (ES)
Vizunah Square (FR)
Augury Rock (FR)
Abaddon’s Mouth (DE)
Plus a few multi servers overflows.
I’ll start off by saying that I really like the new tequatl fight, even if I haven’t managed to kill it yet (50% is lowest we’ve managed to get it on any attempt I’ve been in so far), even if I do think it could use a few adjustments here and there, and I’d like to see some more of it instead of being nerfed, just throwing some ideas about what could be changed about it.
First thing about the fight… turrets, something needs to be done with it. Part of the difficulty of the fight comes from the overreliance of them. Turret doesn’t remove hardened scakitten ne wall comes in, you can’t kill him in time. If they don’t cleanse the poison fields, or buff the zerg, there won’t be enough DPS to kill him on time. And if someone has to go AFK or just decides to troll by grabbing a turret and not doing anything, there’s nothing you can do about it (reporting isn’t really an option since you really can’t know whether they’re griefing or just had to go AFK for whatever unexpected reason). One way I’d try to fix it is by adding more of them, or maybe even turret creation points where you could create extra turrets like you do with siege engines on WvW. Maybe even add the blueprints as rewards from some related events (maybe the krait attacking the lab are trying to steal them and you need to prevent it to get a blueprint as a reward), so that guilds or group of organized players could set up their own turrets and put their own people manning them just in case the regular ones aren’t doing their job.
About revamping other bosses, I don’t think that everyone should be up to tequatl difficulty. The way I’d do it is to have sort of tiers for them. Tier 1 would be the easy loot piñata ones, the low level bosses (fire elemental, frozen maw, and so on). Tier 2 a little bit harder, about every other boss in the game. I think the golem mark II is a good standard of difficulty for these. And Tier 3 the big elite ones, the three dragon champions that IMHO should be as hard as tequatl is right now, both for the gameplay and because of lore (they’re supposed to be the champions of the biggest baddies of the world). That way there’s something for everyone. Those that want an easy get in – get loot – get out boss have the T1 ones, those that wans a little bit of challenge have the T2 ones, and the ones that want big epic and more hardcore fights have the big 3 ones.
Two things would be needed for them to not be just abandoned, though, first, rewards should be much better. I’d say a much higher chance of getting an ascended weapon (I’d say 1/50 at most), plus I’d add a one per day token dropping from them, which you could use at a vendor to get a piece of ascended gear like you do with dungeons once you have enough of them (all of it once per day per account, though). The general idea is that these fights should be MUCH more rewarding than the regular loot piñata bosses, so there would be an incentive for the extra effort.
The other thing I think they’d need, scheduled times for them to appear so that organized groups could be formed. For example, Tequatl usually has a 2 hours timer + 30 minutes spawning window… make it so that instead of that, he spawns every set hour on schedule so that groups could be formed to fight him, at different hours every day so that people with diferent playing times can still get to him. For example, let’s say that today the spawning window begins at 1:00, 4:00, 7:00, 10:00 (and so on), tomorrow they should be at 2:00, 5:00, 7:00… and moving them forward one hour each day. That way it gives organized guilds and groups time to get there and get organized, and even schedule specific days and times to kill him. Once all three dragon champions are revamped and on the same difficulty (and rewards) level make it so that their spawning times are evenly spaced (for example, at 1:00, the spawning window for tequatl begins.. at 2:00, the shatterer ones begins… at 3:00, the claw of jormag one… at 4:00, tequatl again).
What does everyone think? Discuss away.
Would also open Anet to a huge legal nightmare. The fact that you can’t trade gems with other players or convert them back to money in any way prevents them from being legally considered a virtual currency.
Depending on jurisdiction, of course, if it were to be allowed, then gems (and everything you can convert to and from gems like gold) could start to be considered taxable income, and that’s without going into all the complexities of international trade and currency exchange.
Just as an example, here in Venezuela there’s a very strict currency exchange control, basically any foreign currency you bring into the country in any way should be sold to the central bank as an specific rate… which of course creates a black market where foreign currency is sold at about 7 times the official price. A system like this would allow me, for example, to bypass the system by buying gems at the official rate, sell them for real money, then use that money for the black market… the game would be blocked here really fast.
Doesn’t seem to be one for the time being (at least directly for the iphone, I guess you can access websites that offer that service with it).
You can see a list of websites and apps using the API here, may want to keep an eye on it:
Also many people have it but haven’t realized it yet (you have to open Y and then go to the LFG tab). Watching at it last night seemed like there were few groups forming, but watching it for a little while seemed that groups were filling (and dissapearing) rather quickly, so that might also be the cause.
Hope not. Personally I’d like an upgrade to the frequency of ascended weapons dropping, but hopefully no nerf.
The way I’d do it:
- Limited to 1 character up to level 15 and the starter areas of each race plus main cities.
- Make a trial server with a free one time server transfer when the game is purchased, and/or block trial characters from chat (/s and /m) to prevent spamming (they could see the chat, just not participate on it). /w only to those that have added you to their friends list or whispered you first.
- Trial characters blocked from using TP, bank, guild bank and mail (to prevent trial used for botting and transfer materials and/or gold).
- Trial characters limited to 1g total.
- Blocked from WvW (otherwise trial characters could be used to spy on enemy servers) and sPvP matches, but I’d allow them to enter the heart of the mysts so they could explore how their character would be at level 80.
(edited by locoman.1974)
I have 4 level 80’s so far… and love each of them.
Sylvari Guardian: My main, really like it so far. Build is hybrid DPS/support.
Norn Mesmer: Build as condition damage.
Asura Warrior: Zerker, I just love the little guy swinging the huge sword..
Charr engineer: This one wasn’t love at first sight. I was going to delete the char (didn’t mainly because I wanted one char on each armor profession, and engineer was the one that seemed the best for me out of the medium armor ones), but then decided to give it a more serious go, used the level to 20 scroll on it, leveled a bit during the invasions, and now I really like it. I’m using a flamethrower build on it.
Now I’m debating what profession to start next. I have a human necro that’s mostly just a bank char, and an empty character slot that was an impulse purchase when they were in a sale (I’ve converted gold to gems several times now so I have some extra gems around), so I’m torn between that one, or an elementalist.
I’m not particularly attracted to thief and ranger, but mostly because of experiences with other MMOs, never been much for pet or rogue style classes, but I may try them in the future.
Thanks for all of the clarifications, guys!
I had figured that they were mixed server, but what makes me more curious about it is when there is a large portion of one particular server in an overflow. Such as a lot of TC players, or in the case yesterday, one of our TC players was in an overflow with a lot of BG people. I’m just curious how it gets grouped that way, but I suppose it really is just random.
Thanks again!
I’m guessing that the overflow system takes home server into account. Also, some big organized guilds are using overflows as a way to play together, by joining all into one overflow when they find one that isn’t too full.
Also the overflow system takes parties into account (if you join a full map while in a party, it’ll send all party members to the same overflow), maybe it does the same with commander squads.
So, what’s your sugestion?
Allow everyone in a single map with so much lag that you couldn’t probably get even a single autoattack off, not to mention all the stuff you need to do just to stay alive?
Remove overflows and anyone that tries to get in just gets a “sorry, zone is full, do you want to queue or go somewhere else?”
Kick everyone from main map from time to time so you might have the chance to enter into the main map (and be kicked sometime later back into overflows)?
Basically this is how it works.
Each zone has a soft and hard cap. When one zone hits the soft cap for the first time on any server, an overflow of that zone is created. Every player trying to enter into that zone from every server (within the same area, EU or NA) goes into that overflow, so you’ll find people from different servers in the same overflow.
When the soft cap of the overflow is reached, a new overflow is created and people trying to zone in (again, from every server) are directed to that new overflow. Repeat as many times as necesary with as many overflows as they’re needed to fit everyone.
Each zone and overflow also has a hard cap, which is a bit higher than the soft cap (we don’t know exact numbers). This is so that if you want to join your friends/guild on the main server map, or on a specific overflow you can just party with them, and join in their map. However, that’s where the hard cap goes into effect, once it’s reached (the zone is really full), then if you try to join them you’ll get a “map is full” error. If that happens then they can either try to join your map, or the entire party leaves the map and zones back in, the game will either create a new overflow or accomodate all of you in one that still has space.
And the reason that you’re seeing so many overflows with tequatl, for example, is that there are LOTS of people trying to do it, and also most people stay after the fight is done discussing new strategies and so they don’t lose their spot for the next fight, specially if a previous attempt was somehow succesful, like it happened last night on Yak’s Bend, one attempt got him down to 5% on main map, and everyone stayed for the next fight discussing new strategies and killed it on the next try.

Levels don’t matter when transmuting skins, if you wanted you could grab a level 80 exotic, transmute it to a level 1 white piece of gear and wear it in a character fresh out of the tutorial.
The only limitation is that if any of the items you’re using for the transmutation is level 80, you’ll beed to use a transmutation crystal instead of a stone.
Every time I’ve gone to a tequatl fight it has been uncontested until I went there. Maybe they keep it that way so that people can join the fight, but once you get into event range becomes contested for you.
Well, we don’t really know whether tequatl can be killed by 70 coordinated players that know the fight… because he scales to how many players are there, for all we know if there are only 70 players he might scale to be killed by those 70 players… I guess we might find out when the novelty wears off and only the dedicated dragon killers go there for the fight.
With regards to 2, I guess it’s a mixture of “they see the posts (or at least someone sees them and forwards the concerns to the devs) but are too busy to say anything” and “they just don’t have anything to say”.
With the probable exception of Colin and other high ups in the company, I doubt any dev has the whole picture when it comes to the game. Maybe a requested feature was done on one dev’s side, but something else is holding it out (maybe the art isn’t ready), or maybe bugs were found and are holding them out, or even if they’re just working on other stuff.
Which also leads us to the other side of the coin… us. Devs work is taken as gospel, so they must be VERY careful about what they say… a dev saying something like “we have that on the list but we feel X or Y has higher priority right now” suddenly turns into “ANET DOESN’T CARE ABOUT X!!!”, a “we’re looking at it” (which goes with the bigger picture part, maybe it was something talked about in a meeting but a technical or logistical issue made them discard it, for example, or save it for future patches) turns a few weeks (or even days) later into “ANET LIED TO US, THEY PROMIXED X AND NOTHING YET!!!”.
BTW, it’s not only the mods and devs that delete threads and topics, if someone opens a topic and later decides to delete the first post, the entire threads ends up deleted.

Change it to what?
To something that a bunch of random people with limited communication, can actually accomplish.
Something like (taking a deep breath) the shadow behemoth, fire elemental, jungle wurm, frozen maw, shatterer, claw of jormag, golem mark II, temple of dwayna, temple of lyssa, temple of melandru, foulbear chieftain, ulgoth the modniir, the dredge commisar, taidha covington, the fire shaman, the megadestroyer, the eye of zaithan, the karka queen, scarlet and tons of champions all over the world (phew)….
This is something new, it’s the only non dungeon hard boss fight in the game, and by now (a day after it was released) it has been killed by at least 4 servers that I know of (if he had remained unkilled 2 weeks from release, I’d agree to a nerf). Personally I’d rather them leave it like it is, that way everyone, from the ones looking for a challenge to the ones looking for easy loot, have stuff to do.
What I’d change, though, is to give it a better way to summon it other than every X hours, something like a series of group events you could start at anytime, so that guilds can organize specific times to attempt it.
And actually, my sugestion would be to revant the three dragon champions (and maybe the megadestroyer) to be as hard as this, with better rewards (maybe a much higher chance to drop ascended gear) but leaving the rest of the non elder dragon related bosses as they are now. I’d say that the golem mark II, as it is right now, is a good example of how hard an open world boss should be, excluding the ones that are supposed to be elder dragon champions.

when I check the timestamp i see elonareach killing him before desolation?
this screens are taken from:
http://de.twitch.tv/letubleed/b/463255969
http://nl.twitch.tv/qufi/b/463252332even if you calculate it with the time difference of one hour
Elona-Event failed. We would have needed maybe 5 more seconds. The try afterwards was horrible…
But you can see in the screen that the player got the achievement “Makellose Verteidigung” which is german for “Flawless Defense” where you need to kill the dragon.
I know ^^ (ich bin auf Elona). Wouldn’t be the first achievement that’s bugged. Officially the event failed and we were kind of disappointed, because we first thought that we had killed the kitten with 0:00 left.
Maybe the conditions (bleeding, burning and so on) were still ticking after the timer ended so he died from those after the event failed.
Also in frostgorge sound, around the norn camp near the entrance (there’s a grawl camp nearby as well), several veteran oakhearts and a veteran crab spawn nearby.
At this point I’m going to go ahead and say that overflow is far worse than the server queues I had to deal with back in other MMOs. It’s really ruining the game.
I don’t know… TBH even if it was like before, where I wouldn’t get the event if I landed in overflow, I’d much rather be playing than staring at a login window with a “you’re XXX out of YYY” sign.
I personally thing it’s a step in the right direction. It’s one single very hard fight for those that want a big challenge, and for those that just want the easy loots, well, you still have (taking a deep breath) claw of jormag, shatterer, golem mark II, fire elemental, fire shaman, shadow behemoth, megadestroyer (which just got new upgraded loot this patch, BTW), jungle wurm, temples of balthazar, dwayna, lyssa, grenth and melandru, the foulbear chieftain, ulgoth, the dredge commisar, taidha covington, eye of zaithan, the karka queen and scarlet’s invasions (phew), not to mention the champion trains in frostgorge sound, queensdale and others, and the champion farming during the invasions… those are way more than enough to keep you busy and with plenty of loot unless you do play 12 hours a day..
Personally I’m glad they’re actually adding harder content and, more important IMHO, failable content that only rewards success.
Personally I like the changes. Out of the bosses I did get to try last night.
Tequatl: Enough said about this one… I’m loving this fight even if I’ve never managed to get him to 75% yet.
Maw: No big changed that I could see other than the fight being longer now, which is a plus in my book… at least gets me enough time to actually zone when a guildie calls out that it’s starting, and guessing it’ll also give better chance to actual low levels to get credit.
FE: No big changed that I saw, but seems it’s a little harder judging by the amount of dead people on it.
Golem: Great change. I love this fight now and how you actually have to pay attention and move out of the electric fields, If anything, I’d say this should be the example to follow on open world boss fights.
PAX guys (who never ever did the dragon before, and didn’t know a crap about him), easely got Tequatl down to 50/40/25% health (3 different teams).
My (overflow sadly) server never gotten him lower then 90% hp. Never. And everyone at least focused on something, nobody was standing still or suiciding himself.
on PAX Arenanet reduced his health by 25% from time to time so they could show off what happens in the different stages.
People that are actually on that server should take priority over guests. Guests should get kicked off server if its full, to make room for people on that server.
Waiting between events doesn’t work. I sat on map for hours and never got back to BG after all the crashes started.
Don’t say “use join party in map” either, its not working. Most people get some sort of “network error”.
One question… how do you know for sure that you’re getting into overflow because of people guesting and not because there are lots of people from your own server filling the map?
Not even ONCE was I able to be with my own server (Tarnished Coast) for Tequatl.
Not even once in all the time I spent in overflow was there even the option to travel to the main server.
I hope something can be done about this soon.
What do you sugest as an alternative?.
Not going into overflow isn’t really an option, we already have people complaining about lag with the overflows in place, removing them would mean even more people and more lag in big fights like these. At least now going to overflow doesn’t mean missing the fight at all.
No they don’t?
I’m fairly certain they drop as prefix-boxes which allow you to pick any weapon type of that prefix stats.
Ah, got it wrong then…
To be fair, ascended weapons have the whole concept of different looks for different stats going for them.
If the ascended Tequatl weapons indeed have a new stat combo (preferably giver) then the new look is completely justified.
Dropped ascended allow you to select the stats combo when you get them, I’m guessing this one will allow you to do that as well.
And personally if that’s the case, I’d be against it… getting an ascended weapon as a drop is hard enough to also give a high chance that the one you get is useless for your current build.
SAB achievements will remain until sept. 30
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/sab-bts/End-Date
And as for the patch, it’ll be live sometime today, but usually with patches we don’t know exactly the time until the in-game notice that it’ll restart in 1 hour to apply the patch… and then restart 5 minutes later..
…If that is actually the new GS, then Anet did a really poor job and just added a black cloud on top of an existing skin.
Wouldn’t be the first time:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/0/08/Champion%27s_Greatsword.jpg
Just to put the first two examples I found. And well, it works for them… everyone keeps raving about Cobalt, for example, when it’s basically what you described, added a cloud of particles over an existing skin.
Yay. A cobalt with a recolored particle effect.
You do know that cobalt is just a recolored ebonblade with some extra particle effects, right?…
In any case, it’d be a recolored ascended sword with extra particle effects..
From watching the previews.
There’s tequatl himself, self explanatory.
Two new things to him, he gains hardened scales which stack, if they stack too high he’ll create the bone walls and you will have to destroy them before getting to him again (while the time still ticks away), and applies poison to the ground, which doesn’t dissipate on its own and will kill you if you stand on it too long, as he keeps casting it there’s less space to stand on. The hylek turrets have abilities to remove the poison and remove stacks of hardened scales on Tequatl and undead will spawn to attack them, you will have to have people manning the turrets and people defending them, you can’t ignore them as you do now.
There’s also the megalaser, from time to time it’ll shoot Tequatl stunning him, when it does he’ll take more damage. Most likely you can’t kill him in time without that extra damage, so you have to defend the megalaser as well (more undead attacking it, can’t ignore it either like you do now).
From time to time he’ll fly up for about a minute and a half (timer stops when it happens), hordes of undead will show up and try to destroy the turrets and megalaser when he does, you have to stop them.
So I’d say yes, there will be lots of things to fight other than the big guy himself.
Also some new abilities, he’ll summon a tidal wave that gets higher the lower his health is. At first you’ll be able to jump them, but after a while you’ll have to use jump pads to jump over it. He’ll also teleport a random player to an underwater area, you have to swim out quick or you’ll die there. All nearby waypoints will be contested when the fight begins, so it’s important to stay alive and resurrect players. They estimate it’ll take you at least a minute or running from the nearest waypoint to get back.
And one thing… you can already get full gold participation on all 3 dragon events without touching the dragons (I usually do just that on my conditions heavy mesmer), just by killing everything else they spawn, so I’m guessing it’ll be the same in this one.
The magic 8 ball says:
“Better not tell you now”
I’d probably have over 200g if I had never spent anything (I’ve converted gold to gems several times now to get things like transmutation crystals, a new char slot, primeval armor and other stuff).
Most of that gold have come so far from world bosses, killing them salvaging the rares I get and selling the sigil/runes and globs of ecto that come from it. Also invasions resulted in a bit of extra gold last month (never really got good enough at gauntlet to do any of the farms). Gold just slooooowly comes around by playing, and I rarely spend it.
It’s an open world boss in a level 65 area, so I’m guessing you should to be 65 and up. Of course, since it is indeed an open world fight, nothing stops you from going there at a lower level.
As far as events go, at least in the tequatl fight that’s being revamped tomorrow they’re planning on making them work like in invasions, if you zone in within 10 minutes of the event starting you get into an overflow that has the event as well. I’m guessing they plan to eventually do this for all other bosses.
And for the ori run, I understand they also spawn on overflows, don’t they?
One question… how much is it the actual song quality, and how much is it nostalgia?
I listened to those songs, for example, and while I do agree they’re very nice songs, can’t say I felt anything special about them in the first place, most likely because I never played those games. Now put me some mechwarrior 2 or wing commander music, for example, and while if they’re analyzed they might be inferior to the ones you linked, but I’m hooked to them, mainly because of the emotions tied to those songs.
For example, watch this video:
Unless you’re latinamerican and about 35+ years old, BTW, that music (and the video itself) won’t do anything for you… but for me I start listening and get goosebumps all the way until it ends.
A few others that have a simmilar effect (just because you got me into a youtube rampage!!!)

And some non game ones:

And BTW… I still like to crank the music up when doing the claw of jormag, even if I’ve done it lots of times:

Human T2 and T3 or the Caduceus Manor armor would go well with it, IMHO, another option, if you have GW1, would be the icelord’s diadem (though it’s blue and undieable) but you’ll need 24 HoM points to get it, not something you’re likely to do quickly unless you already played GW1 for a while:
If it is sellable it will be 1000 gold. You will have to do teq 100000 times to get a .001 chance of getting it. Save your gold!
Not to mention that to get the chance to get it, you have to actually kill tequatl… and from the looks of it, he’ll no longer be just a get in – get loot – get out loot piñata
Do you own GW1?…. If you do, then you have one of the campaigns. The only expansion pack was Eye of the North, the other three are campaigns that each function as its own standalone game (Eye of the North needs at least one of those).
And yes, to get HoM rewards you need to at least own the game for the first 3 points (I think you can get away with just the game for those, not entirely sure), and have Eye of the North for any further points since you need to visit the hall of monuments to get more points and you can’t without the expansion.
