Mode Specific Achievement Chests

Achievement Chests are great! I love that I now get rewarded for achievement points instead of just having bragging rights…however, (you knew that was coming), I don’t do PvP or WvW. I tried it with a friend, it’s not for me. And yet, I keep getting rewarded with PvP rewards. I finish my personal story (all PvE), but I get PvP rewards; all of my achievement points are from PvE, but I get PvP rewards. Please stop – I would really like to get rewarded with something I’ll use.

I understand wanting to reward PvP players as well, so give us a choice. At the end of several personal story missions we were able to choose a reward that best suited us, do that with the achievement chests as well. Let us choose if we want the box with the PvP rewards in them, or if we’d like a chest with just PvE rewards.

What ever you do, please stop forcing PvP stuff on PvE players; we’re getting shafted with these rewards. Where a PvP player will find everything useful and shiny (because they also PvE), a PvE player will see garbage. What am I going to do with blueprints? I can’t sell them or trade them to a WvWer. Oh look, I got PvP specific armor…I’ll just hop over to the mists and deposit this in my PvP locker, never to be seen again…

I’m begging you, please, give me things I will use. Your entire player base doesn’t PvP, please stop thinking that it does.

Thanks!

You presume PVP’ers also PVE, while nothing could be further from the truth. Many PVP’ers and WvW’ers never, ever play PVE.

Secondly, you’re forgetting the most obvious option: having to choose between 3 rewards, one for each type of play. That’s how other games do it. Instead, you get a reward for EACH. Neither cuts into other rewards. Isn’t that better than only getting PVE rewards?
Did you really expect 5 gold if the PVP components weren’t there? If so, I pity you. Nothing can satisfy such entitled, spoiled people.

In WoW I never, ever played the content of second and further patches, because they relied on being max level and a certain amount of tier. I usually didn’t have the required gear to play the content, so the patch effectively never happened.

I’m happy you can enjoy these improvements allowing you to enjoy the newest content.

it is not crappy, but rather well done for a MMORPG environment. That being said, they are completely overdoing it. This is the second LS in a row that relies heavily on jumping puzzles and other Super Mario stuff. While these things are nice for a change in small dosages, atm, I cannot say we are really playing a rpg type of game. Anet, please no more jp hell in upcoming LS for a while.

Let’s just say that A.net does what wowon’t.

BotFW is the best update thus far, and the most fun I’ve had in an online game ever.

But sure, I’m a massive commander Keen fan and an old-time mario addict. I couldn’t be more happy with this MMO based around the spacebar.

One of the recurrent requests for GW1 was jumping. A.net took that request to heart and made it the core feature of this game. I’m loving it.

I know this reads as sarcasm, but it isn’t. I’m genuinely happy with the path this game takes. It takes more skill to complete the Bazaar Achievements than it takes to kill <generic raid boss #42 >

AP farm begins.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

marnick.4305

Well, due to the big lag I have only with World Champion Bosses and WvW I simply cannot play those parts even if I would love to. So, I cannot have any AP reward at all. Be happy with your Achievement Points

But… what about all the AP points you get for doing pretty much anything?

I find simply don’t fair that I will never reach a certain AP in a strickly time even if I would because of lag. Many players also cannot do the automatic jump in the new race because they fall before (and so cannot do the achievement).
Lag is present, Anet should care of those who doesnt live in the center on NY

Unfortunately, having a laggy connection means MMOs will not give you an optimal experience. The box clearly states broadband is required. Either invest in a higher quality connection, move continents or accept that US/EU MMOs probably won’t be your thing.

Last option is to beg A.net for korean server that hopefully have less latency in Oceania with a dedicated server down-under.

Zero – The O in MMO stands for you need a decent connection to the internet. It’s like you’re complaining about how quiet the opera is with earplugs in, or acting confused as to why it’s so hard to pedal your bike with flat tires.

Unfortunately that’s the cold, hard truth. A stable, low-latency and decent broadband connection is almost required to play an MMO. Most even have it on the box. If you can’t have good internet, MMOs are not part of your gaming palette.

WoW became popular mostly because it was the first decent MMO right when broadband became mainstream. There were other factors, but if it released a year earlier or two years later, it wouldn’t have been the current mastodon.

30 Days to make 1 armor set.

It definitely keeps you logging in every day to charge your quartz crystals. ANet is very clever when it comes down to these things. When the time comes for Ascended armor sets that can be crafted it’s almost guaranteed that it would take at least this long.

People have referred to this strategy as time gating. You basically reduce the grind required and at the same time you put everyone, regardless of how much time they have, on an even playing field.

As a casual, I totally support this game design. Logging in 10 minutes to charge quartz and do dailies … I can do that every day. Log in to raid for hours on end … could do that maybe once a month. Yea

Back when I was 16 I’d have agreed with you. Now I’m 26 and realize that Disney has the coolest movies ever, mario is awesome and gritty games are boring, shallow excuses for “games”. Nudity nor swearing have anything to do with maturity. One day you’ll grow and realize that too.

I don’t care about “maturity” if the gameplay is good. The new content in GW2 is awesome, better than anything I played with an 18+ label on it. This game doesn’t belong on consoles because this game is mature.

ArenaNet cannot figure out the difference between build diversity and playstyle diversity, I need to school them in video game combat design 101.

Celestial gear takes a full 40 days to make 2 weapons and 6 armors. A timegate, way to step backwards, just limit dungeon tokens and crafting completely if that is the mindset.

I cannot care for this new area, weapons or armors.

What class best for +all Stats armor

I cannot stress this enough, and I truly mean no offense when I say it, but Divinity Runes are for bad players who can’t make up their mind on what they want and/or are unwilling to change armor sets to adjust for a situation.

No offense taken. I simply don’t want to be good in my hobbies. That’s what I do during the day already.
In videogames, fun is far more important, and oftentimes gimping yourself leads to more fun. I have more fun wiping with silly builds than stress about the perfect speedrun.

If I’d really put the effort in videogames, which I put into my family and job, I’d be #5 sPVP. But why would I? Got an awesome job and beautiful fiancée. My hobbies are the place where I can kitten around and not worry about the perfect numbers. That’s a choice and I proudly stand by it.

I don’t understand what is so taxing about getting one, maybe two specialised armour sets (full berserker and … something else) and then just swapping depending on the situation. You’re not choosing to be bad, it’s just laziness since it takes like 3 seconds to swap all your gear.

Depends on your definition of lazy. I’d much rather have fun doing the content I want to do, than farm out another set because I changed my build. Celestial allows me to not worry about my stats anymore. Is that laziness? Maybe. Lack of care may be a better term.

Pistol shield, merely because I like the shield control so much. Given I often go into dungeons with elixir gun and healing turret, the +healing isn’t wasted either. I literally use every stat on celestial. Even the little MF counts in the long run.

You too can be invited to this test krewe. Be a positive, non-trolling member of the community and created objective, constructive and non-trolling threads. Keep your head cool at all times in the forums and in-game. One day you might get a PM with attached Non Disclosure Agreement inviting you to the Test Krewe.

^ Lie

I never, ever lie. It’s bad practice and doesn’t work on the long run. Furthermore I’m not smart enough to remember all my lies, the truth is so much easier to remember. But you could call it an opinion you don’t agree with.

Also a bad philosophy in General and the main reason things are so bugged and exploitable still. IoW: If all you do is invite the sheep/mice of the game, all you’ll get is meager casual testing and meek feedback at best. Anet’s problem since 2005 has always been that’s it AFRAID to work with a team of Rivals. And they’ve always built everything around Cronyism. Once it even got them in hot water over a scandal involving preferential treatment to non-employees in their shiverpeak themed Guild.

Do you need any tinfoil?

It wasn’t quite CCP-tier of corruption… but their history shows they have no respect for people who think differently from them and they avoid as much as they can; anyone who doesn’t suck up to them all the time and tell them everything’s sunshine & lemondrops. (this also caused a huge falling out between them and Guru — which I was actually relieved by to be honest, but I digress).

And yet guru hosts the state of the game, openly questioning devs in their face. The facts clearly speak against you.

Though there’s also the problem highlighted by past Test Krewe members who eventually quit from the first one they built. Infact It just so happened to be the main reason I DIDN’T join the Krewe when I had the opportunity: IE: that they would only use them for a very narrow line of bug-catching (mostly UI/graphic) and ignore them completely on major exploits and game-breaking imbalances on skill functions & Utility.

I have a hard time believing you refused to join and be proud of it. Occam’s razer demands you were never invited at all. The rest is just a figment of your imagination.

YOU CAN’T IGNORE TESTERS ON BALANCE/ABUSE ISSUES and still call it “Testing”.

Of course not. But let’s just look at the actual facts, latest blog post:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/introducing-the-new-skyhammer-pvp-map/

“We’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback from our playtesters,” Bearce says. “Pretty much as soon as we threw this in for testing, our internal playtesters said, ‘This has to go on Live.’”
Claypool adds, “People who have played this map already have been more excited about playing PvP.

Emphasis mine. You’re wrong. I take a.net’s words over yours any day of the week if you don’t mind.

Yea the LFG tool will have the most impact of any addition that has thus far been made to the game. But their priorities are…questionable. The tool will be best implemented if it also includes methods to advertise for open world pve/wvw groups and not just dungeons. If Anet actually cares about the “Living World”, this is what they needed months ago.

Creating something which already exists, usually is a very low priority.

GW2lfg.com works fine and there’s absolutely no reason to put excess resources in replacing it. Maybe if it can be done in spare time, sure. I wouldn’t mind such a tool in-game but I understand why it isn’t and shouldn’t be a priority.

Divinity Rune vs Celestial

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: marnick.4305

marnick.4305

So they are introducing Celestial armor in tomorrow’s patch. Celestial is an all stats combo, something previously only found on Ascended accessories or trinkets (or in divinity runes, which cost an outrageous 8 to 9 gold)

It takes a 125 quartz to make one piece of of the new armor and it takes 5 days to refine those 125 quartz pieces so in total it would take 750 quartz pieces and 25 days to make a full suit. That’s a sizable amount of time to make a suit of armor but its nice to have an option because before if you wanted armor with all stat combos you had to spend about 54 gold

So if your like me and wanted a zerker suit of armor with all stat combos for runes you can switch it up and go all stat combo armor and then use ruby orbs to get the zerker stats. I guess this post is sort of a public service announcement to let you know that if you like all stat combo gear, you dont have to get screwed over by the trading post to get it

So how about celestial armor with divinity runes?

PTRs are hands down the best tried and true way of testing anything. “Don’t fix what ain’t broke” comes to mind in the argument against the OP. Time and time again with patch updates that include major changes to classes bugs still exist in each patch that they’ve claimed are gone, some of which stayed for months with no one listening to the complaints in the class forums about these bugs still being there.

Yeah I’d say it’s time for a PTR.

No offense man but PTRs have been tried and been shown to be completely ineffective time and time again. It’s a worthless waste of resources. The following happens on test servers:
- let’s raid orgrimmar (crashing test server hence no testing)
- let’s find exploits and keep them hidden for world firsts (hence no testing)
- let’s whine about justified nerfs (hence no positive testing)
- let’s check out profession X at max level (hence no testing)

End effect, almost no real testing and with a very high noise-to-signal ratio. Couple that with extensive exploit gathering. It is simply not worth it.

A.net actually has players testing in a group that can be constructive, objective and silent. There’s no reason to invite every troll and his mother to the test krewe.

You too can be invited to this test krewe. Be a positive, non-trolling member of the community and created objective, constructive and non-trolling threads. Keep your head cool at all times in the forums and in-game. One day you might get a PM with attached Non Disclosure Agreement inviting you to the Test Krewe.

And none of what you said explains how it’s been the most effective system in testing and thus used by 90% of the games out there still to this day. If it were so ineffective than no one would use it. *Please stop posting nonsense, even with all of the negatives, the majority of the testers are legit testers and report on the problems in the ui the combat and the mechanisms of the games update. *It’s not like what we’re seeing in this title where they made claims about items being fixed and then have to go back and find all of the various groups of things they missed in the type of testing they use, as opposed to only finding 2 maybe at max 3 things wrong in the PTR testing system because of the ample reporting and free testing provided.

1/ can you back up that claim, because i’ve never, ever seen a single legit tester on PTRs in the time I played WoW. The PTR forums were full of vitiol without meaningful discussion about the content (let alone bug hunting). Even if there was a speck of meaningful testing, it’d be lost in all the noise. That’s personal experience though.

2/ stop posting nonsense, right back at ya.

Would love some new merchandising. Pins, t-shirts, lunch boxes, …

No plushies though, I want Charrlie to remain “special”.

The funny part about this is I was given an infraction from posting about this very same thing and my post removed, can we say double standards.

Probably because you violated forum rules that made constructive discussion impossible. If I remember correctly, you violently claimed you reported all those people. Obviously, that style isn’t acceptable. Both threads being about the Obsidian Sanctum is not relevant to the infraction, nor is it double standards. This thread is a little more civilized. Please keep it so.

Just to clear any doubts.

Nothing violent in said post, I still have the infraction notice with post quoted by moderator that I could PM to you.

Sure feel free.

Why did you let him scam you?

A fool and his money are easily parted. If someone offers himself to me, for me to take his money, I’d be stupid not to accept it.

well I can see no advantage to gameplay really… Instead of creating something like npc-driven expeditions to dragon encounters from different zones where players act in a story-arc and experience the game in a cohesive environment, waypoints are abused to get to those encounters without any context at all. The battles are overrun with players and most of those see the encounter as loot-pinata instead of a threat to Tyria.

I mean: waypoints were introduced to make it easy to play with your friends, not to skip content constantly.

Not really. Waypoints were introduced to make it easy to play the content you want, which means skipping content you don’t want to play. If that means skipping things to get to the dragon events you want to play … so be it.

It’s very, very unfortunate that you’re handicapped, however that means you can’t do some content. Unfortunately this is a harder content patch, based around dexterity. You can’t complete it because you’re physically not able. That said, you’re not able to complete an Ironman triathlon either. Kitten happens. I feel bad for you but nothing can change that.

We all have things we can and can’t do. Colourblind people can’t do anything based on red circles, and you’d be surprised how many people are red-green colourblind.

Time for living stories to last 2+ months at a time, which currently means 4 stories would run at the same time. Seems to be that way with Dragon Bash.

Agree. Got a single ticket and sold the rest. Heard mixed reports on the rich coffers but imho the discounted 5 should have a guaranteed ticket. That’d make it perfect.

Now to put all old tickets in Black Lion Chests.

There are living orrians. Well their decendents at least. They are the origional inhabitants of kryta. As far as ones still living well beyond the several hundred years. There was one in Guild Wars 1. I don’t remember if he died in it or not though. But even then he was very old. He might have just died from old age.

He was so incredibly old, he was actually a lich, and the players killed him.

the reason behind APIs

Because players often know what players want, therefor things like the extended experience are better left to the playerbase. By doing so it’s also left out of the game, so all the negatives that come with WoW-style add-ons are avoided while all the positives are in.

As for second screens … I’ve got 4 monitors so I’ve got plenty of screen estate for apps and websites, and it’s rare to find a gamer without either a smartphone or tablet (I’m of of those though :p).

So basically … because they can.

Yes I have more than you, I did more than you. Why on earth should the fruits of my effort be erased to accommodate your desire? I am here for myself , and the reward of my effort cannot have any effect upon the reward of your efforts.

If you desire help, ask me. By helping you, I may enrich us both, that is of value.

If you cause the destruction of what is mine, you impoverish us both. After all, why would I help any who destroy what I value?

This is my stance on the issue.

My stance is that your selfish desires are not valid grounds to limit my enjoyment of the game by putting rewards out of reach for people with responsibilities. That’s effectively what you’re asking for and that effectively means impoverishing me.

My stance is that the game should accommodate for people with a job and other types of real life obligations, in so far that this game can be a hobby instead of a second job.

Don’t take that objectivist egocentrical non-sense in the game. People are impoverished through egoism. Altruism usually helps both forward. I don’t need your pity and you don’t get mine. I’m very willing to impoverish you if not doing so comes at the cost of impoverishing myself.

Account Bound Precursors via Achiev Points

in Suggestions

I believe a better way to acquire precursors needs to be implemented, one relying less on rng but to just straight up get one from achievement points feels too easy.

I would go for a massive scavenger hunt type thing where you had to gather a bunch of different resources throughout the game and maybe having one component needed to get your precursor in a non rng way would come from achievement points (perhaps you could get one of those components every 3000-4000 achievement points you got). Otherwise it would cheapen the whole process of getting a legendary if it was too easy to get the components.

I agree. Perhaps a method where you gather all sorts of components from around the world to sell which would get you this mystical object called gold which you can use to purchase this precursor. I think the price should be somewhere between 200-1000 of these magical golds. That sounds like a good system.

Kinda worked in all other games. Sometimes wonder why it doesn’t in GW2. In WoW Vanilla, the most elusive items were based around extremely expensive RNG drops (Quel’Serrar, Chromatic hide of the beast, …)

5% of players have more than 5000 I believe, it’s still rather much cause a lot of people get their first legendary when they are around 3000.

I currently have 5300 AP and almost at the point where I can buy a precursor. That will be the first step, although I don’t expect much trouble with the rest.
