$400 GW2 Computer, is it possible?

SolarNova,
I do understand that your trying to help, but you have given your opinion multiple times and many people don’t fully agree. I respect your opinion, but please leave room for others to give theirs too. I think the OP is wise enough to weigh each post.

I have been building computersystems for over 20 years and have worked in the IT for just as many years. Besides that I have to live on a very tight budget. It is very much possible to have a pc for 400 bucks that run GW2. Yes it isn’t optimum. But you can play on max if not in big zergs (and you can always play on medium).

I do have a few bugs that are irritating, (dissappeared characters when loading in sometimes, without being able to control it is the worse, but that only last for like 15 seconds and only when loading into towns). As I said I live on a tight budget and would love to have an advancer rig. But it works and I am enjoying the game in all it’s beauty.

As for the OP not being able to build it himself. I’m not sure if this exist around the world, but the store where I buy my parts ( I’m dutch, but I go to a german store) builds the rig or changes existing rigs for 25 euro (so 30 USD).

I have a 400 bucks system and I can run on high almost all the time. Only in WvWvW zergs or in big DE’s like dragonfights I need to turn the settings down.

Where to fight monsters for exp lvl 10-20?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

This is the method I usually follow.

There are 5 starting area’s. One for each race. So I start by getting like you to level 10-ish and find out i am fighting too high enemy’s. I then go to my home town and explore it (find all points of interests, waypoints and vista’s). then I take the portal to Lion’s arch (big pink glowing thing). on arrival take note of the other portals. each lead to a different starting area. I then explore lion’s arch just as my home town and all other home towns. I am then roughly level 12,5.

Then I leave one of the other home towns to one of the starter area’s and explore that too. by the time I finish that I’m lvl 15 (or propably more) and I go to my own starter area and finish that. Then you are above lvl 20 and can do a level 15-25 zone.

From then on always keep in mind that for each level area you have several options. If like me, you dislike watching where you go, make sure that you are always above level.

Engineer or Ranger

in Players Helping Players

mercury ranique.2170

As you might see there are a lot of ranger lovers out here :P
So my task to tell you otherwise

The ranger is on itself a very nice class but imo too boring uninteresting and unchallenging. The roles a ranger can play is limited and in the end game it’S basicly an ok class.

Are engineer the special ops inthe game. There isn’t a job we can’t do. Yes almost any job can be done by someone else, but not as many are represented in one profession. This however comes with a price. You have to learn and find out every role. It isn’t as simple to just pull out another kit and go. You need to play each kit alot to fully understands it’s power and possibility’s.

So wanna have a challenging and diverse profession?? Go Engineer

heavy armor texture qeustion

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

1: use different kind of dyes. Black isn’t a colour, just an absense of light. So on computerscreens black is often a very dark looking colour. Most of the time it’s blue, making it blueish in special lightings. Same goes for GW2. Abyss is a good alternative and actually looks blacker.

2: use a heavy armor with no flat surface. the texture of the armor is import for the eventual colour of the dye. in the end most heavy armor’S are metallig, and so are the dyes.

3: the only other solution is to use a system as textmod to change the graphics. keep in mind this only changes it for yourself, not how others see you.

Dynamic levelling adjustment

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

The dynamic leveling adjustment wasn’t made to create a big difference in the system as a whole. I am sorry you disliked the game but thats how it is made and personally I agree. BTW, you gear is lowered as well and so are all stats on it. The mayor differenc is that you have access to all gear pieces and get the higher stats still cause your max level gear is perfgect or near perfect cause you can keep it forever. (where your leveling gear is likely to be green or lower).

The changes made in this update where done to fix some real issues where high level players where ruining the experience for low level players.

Just an example the help farmer Diah renown heart (level 2 heart in Queensdale, where you have to stump wurmholes and kills the wurms). There is also an event going on there from time to time, level 80 engineers came there and did the event for their daily achievement, no problem. But afterwards they left their turrets in place (not on purpose) and quickly waypointed to the next event. The turrets where for those reguarly wurms a one bullet kill, making it impossible for the lvl 2 players trying to do the heart to even participate in the fight and making the heart harder. This is just an example of many issues.

So the update was done to fix these issues, not to fix the game to your personal liking. I am sorry you don’t like the game as it is after level 80. Many others however do.

I’m not trying to have a sales story, but you might want to check the what to do at level 80 sticky. There are some good alternatives to do at level 80 in it.

Trahearne leading against all dragons?

mercury ranique.2170

Hmmmm, beside trahearne himself (to whom I don’t have much affection) I was wondering the other day. I have played soo many games but only GW2 has such a big discussion bout the more prominent NPC’s (besides maybe Lydia in skyrim, but you can always fus ro dah her off a mountain). So I was wodnering why that is. The most logical answer would be is that Arenanet is very bad at making likeable npc’s. Then I realised that it might be something else. The NPC’s from other games are neutral, non flavoured uninterested characters. They do what they have to do but thats it. Arenanet did on purpose made a world that feels alive. They put personal touch and flavour all over the game and it is what in my opinion makes the game so great. NPC’s like Rurik, Trahearne, Togo and Sieran have a personality with weaknesses, disadvantages, but also colour and flexibility. This is part of the personality Arenanet puts in the whole world, but also means there will be people that dislike them.

New Profession of future Expansions

in Lore

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

I believe ANet said in a past interview that they were not looking at any additional professions, but that new races were a possibility.

Haha, I’ve seen people quote Anet as having set the exact opposite… who knows anymore.

To my mind, if they release Cantha then a profession like the ritualist has to come with it because that profession is so deeply tied in with that culture. The Assassin is basically covered by Thief.

And with Elona I don’t think the Paragons would be around anymore because they were closely tied with the Sunspears, an organization that was largely destroyed by Palawa Joko. However, I could easily see the Dervish coming into play, but it would most likely be an adventurer profession. Which in that case the Paragon might have to come into play to round it out a little more. And with a Ritualist also in tow, that would make the balance 4-4-3, which would be back where we started… haha.

who is saying that paragon’s are tied to the sunspears?? just one of many paragon’s not tied to the sunspears: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Awakened_Cavalier

Same goes for dervish, sin and rit.

The thing is that I think Konig is right, lore will be less important then game mechanic. Anet doesn’t want skillsets go out of control like they did in gw1 and most things can be controlled by new weapons.

Pls reconsider

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

Dear Anet, please reconsider where you are going with dungeons.

my group of friends isnt a hardcore group of players, we are rather casual. We like to play the game with the professions we want and we used to like dungeons. First of all we where never good at dungeons. We never made a lot of money due to the huge repaircosts, but in the end we liked them.

Now it is useless: yesterday we tried Twilight arbor upper path, but just couldn’t kill the first spiderboss (cant look up the name, cause wiki is down atm). So eventually we had to give up and we decided to do honour of the waves storymode. At the boss with the turrets in the hallway we had the same problem. Just couldn’t get him down.

Personally I find it totally nonsense to block waypoint travel in combat. Now clearly only people using specifick professions and/or very skilled players can do it. I know people wanted dungeons to be more challenging, but do that as an option then. e.g. double rewards if youdo a hardmode version.

Beside domain of anguish a team of any players (beside a recommendation for a tank and two monks) could finish any dungeon/elite area in the game. Ok it took us 4-5 hours to kill Dhuum but we killed him in the end.

All you did is ruined an essential part of the game for us. We would like to get a legendairy weapon. We dont mind if it takes us two years, but all your doing is making that unreachable.

So thanx a lot for ruining my gaming experience. I will see how long the other aspects of the game can hold my interest, but you pushed an enthousiastic player a good way to the exit and dont return point.

How do you do various parts of your daily?? found any tricks to speed things up? Just a few things I found out so far.

1: daily crafter: combine it with daily gatherer, refine some orr or wood.
2: combat healer: jestar falls in metrica province is a good place. the golem’s there can be ressed and they die in seconds.
as an alternative you can do it at beetletun waterworks. lure a skale to the fisherman, they die quickly. kill the skale and res.
3: veteran killer: kill veteran boar’s roudn the hunting lodge in Queensdale. Also if you do the gathering farm spot outside beetletun, there is a passive veteran bull that you can agro and kill.
4: dodging: I prefer using ettin’s. with a bit of timing you can easily dodge almost every attack.

a: always be ahead of level. Personally I don’tr wanna watch whereI’m going so except for starter zones, I never enter a zone for e.g. level 15-25 before I’m level 25.

b: if you die a lot, you prolly need to dodge more. with dodging and moving while fighting you can avoid a lot of damage.

c: Understand that almost every zone has a challenging part. mostly the highest level part of it.

d: last of all, a level per hour is considered very normal

water, wind, fire and 'earth'?

in Lore

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

the problem with continent’s is the size. When is a landmass a continent and when is it an island?

It leads to a lot of debates among scientists.

Just a few examples.
Eurasia is clearly a continent, but what bout africa. It is connected to the same Eurasia continent by a landmass bout 100 miles wide. So shouldn’t it be the afro-eurasian continent??

the same goes for northern and southern america. the landmass connecting them is only 40 miles wide. Should this be considered two continents or one??

Asia and America are only separated from eachother by 50 miles of shallow sea. So why is it called separated continents??

Reality is that continents are mostly political and cultural borders and not geographical borders. So back to Tyria. I think Konig is right that technicly Elona is on the same continent as Tyria. But if you look at this map http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:Tyria.jpg you see a big inland sea, it is very possible the crystal sea was much further inland then just the desert almost splitting the continent in two like Africa and Eurasia are separated.

Furthermore, If you look at Cantha one could argue if it is a continent or an island.

GW1 to GW2 Currency

in Lore

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

There was a recent thread about this. There, I explained that in GW1, copper and silver coins existed.

Similarly, GW2 does still have platinum coins for money.

We, as players, just have no access to it.

So while something may happen as Ratphink speculates, the changes would be minor. This is primarily a mechanical change between the games.

The only real question is… why does 1,000 gold in GW2 (it’s possible to have 5 or 6 digits worth of gold in the bank currently) not turn into 1 platinum?

What a ridiculous question.
All the Platinum in Tyria is presently locked in Xunlai chests, therefore there is nothing to convert gold into.

Actually this might be a viable explanation. The xunlai order’s headquarters is in Kaineng and also there is the golden masterchest. We also know the chest system is out of order. The only chest we know of can’t be used due to the lack of a xunlaiagent.

What if the current administration in Cantha took control over the xunlai, preventing access to all the riches in the world, leaving only the pocketmoney available in Tyria (continent)

unless they come with totally new entity’s I see two possible combinations to explain flame and ice.

1: jormag against the flame legion

somehow I think the already weakend flamelegion doesnt stand a change against jormag, so I suspect and am hoping on a struggle for power between jormag and primordus. off course not between themself but between their minions.

Still bugged events

in Dynamic Events

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

I have to respectfully disagree with the tone your taking. Although I agree every bugged event is one too many but there roughly 40 events per zone. with 25 zones that makes 1000 event’s. maybe 50 of them are regurly bugged.

Besides that a lot of people claim certain event’s are bugged while they are actually not bugged. for example the shadow behemoth. The trigger is still an enigma, the only thing we know for sure is that if the pack bull is standing alone outside the monestary, it is bugged. since the last update that isn’t happening on my server. and though not witnessed by myself, according to gw temple it has been happening again since then. The pack bull wasn’t bugged from the beginning of the game either.

The problem is that half of the so claimed bug is actually cause by people screwing up pre-events. The beauty of the event system is that it isn’t black and white and you never know whats going to happen. I am doingmy daily always in Queensdale. And though some events are done often I also am surprised sometimes bout e.g. gathering dead grape vines, or capturing mini moa’s.

The down site of this system is that you have many different triggers and things are a lot harder to control. I know where you are coming from and absolutly not saying your wrong, but I also see this as a result of the brave approuch Anet has in this game.

-edit- Just to add, in the last two days, people have reported the shadow behemoth event on your server (fort aspenwood) 4 times to guildwarstemple.com . So it seems it isn’t bugged out on your server at the moment. keep in mind it might have occured more often but people just didnt reported it.

New to Game; Recommend a class?

mercury ranique.2170

first off all, professions and game mechanics are very different. First off al due to the agro system. (Tanks can’t tank cause the agro won’t stay on them and there is no dedicated healer class. just some class that also can heal buff others a bit).

So best is to try different classes.

Warrior: heavy armor, specialised in melee-attacks (though pretty good in ranged attacks too), loads of health, high dps. Easy to play and master

Guardian: heavy armor, but lower health compared to the warrior. use buffs and debuffs on self and others. is very usefull in groups (organised party’s or just random encounters)

Thief: medium armor. low health. using stealth and high and quick dps to have a quick hit and run playstyle.

Ranger: medium armor, ranged (though also can be played as melee), using a pet as a tank. doing nice damage and can holds itself pretty well. easy to play and master.

engineer: medium armor, using specialised toolkits to fill in very specilised roles, like healer, dps, aoe-dps, conditioner. Very versatile and my personal favourite. though rather difficult to master.

Necromancer: light armor. uses conditions and minions (companion’s). very nice and stable class. remember to put your minions up in time and you will do great.

Mesmer: light armor. uses aoe-effects and clones itself to confuse the enemy and win the fights.

Elementalist: light armor, very low health, very high dps. Kill ’mquick or be killed quickly. Difficult to master but very fun to play.

polish: 40 million native speakers
Dutch: 23 million native speakers (30 million if you also count the related language Afrikaans).
Greek: 13 million speakers
Czech: 12 million native speakers
Portuguese: 10 million native speakers on the european continent, and 215 million world wide, making it a very commercial interesting option.
The scandinavian languages.

In other words. A lot of potential candidates.

So wether your looking for a group to clear e.g. cursed shores. Or just need help with your personal story. You can now use www.gw2lfg.com. Just fill in ‘other’ and explain whatyou want to do in the comments.

water, wind, fire and 'earth'?

I always like to follow Roger MacBride Allen’s explaination in his Star Wars novels (the corellian trilogy). He might have taken it from others, but it was when reading him that I first saw the concept.

For any sentient being they use a name for their sun that always translates to the human word for sun. So the inhabitants of the Corellian system doesn’t call their sun Corel, but just sun. The same goes for planets. An inhabitant of say the planet Europe will call his planet earth in their tongue.

So…. Back to Tyria, and make this a lore speculated explaination.
The ground (soil and rocks) in Tyrian tongue (new Krytan) is called Tyria I suspect, just like the continent they are living on and the whole planet. The game however is translated to use, prolly through a mystical connection through the myst, that connects all worlds, and therefor is also the way we connect to the world of Tyria. In this translation when the term Tyria is used as a name it is not translated cause you dont translate names, but where it is used as a term it is translated to in this case earth.

Movement speed in combat state

in Players Helping Players

Yes, but keep in mind that your general movement speed isa slower in combat.

Cause the gameis made out of pixels and not real world, distance and speed is measured in unit’s per second. (u/s)

Out of combat you normally move with a speed of 300 u/s. So 25% extra means 375 u/s.

In combat you move with 210 u/s. So there the 25% extra means a speed of 262.5 u/s

need help getting back into the game

First off all. There is no endgame!
If your playing to reach endgame, then realise there isn’t any.
Having said that, I must say that dungeon’s are a lot easier whenyou reach lvl 80 (even if downscaled to level 30).

The best advise I can give you is to try other things
a: do dynamic events and daily tasks
b: check your achievements tab and see wich one you can work on
c: crafting
d: World versus World. Though a level 80 can do better there, if you join one of the big zerg’s you can be rather successfull.

World Completion Tripping Me Up

You are right that the WvWmaps can be the hardest maps in the game. But even on the lousiest server (keep in mind your paired with other lousy servers) it is very doable if you take the time (im still doing malchor leap, and taking my time cause I don’t want tobe in your situation, I do the last two when I’ve finished WvW maps). The trick is to use the rotation. I check the maps daily (keep in mind you only have to be in one to watch them all) and almost everyday I can get one or two points. After a rotation it is frenzy, allowing me to cover a whole new corner of all 4 maps. I got myself 3 maps completed and am waiting for the last map to rotate to get the last 20%.. All in all it took me bout 3-4 hours spread over bout 2 months. So the trick is patience.

Are Necromancers that bad?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

no they are not that bad. It is a common rul for fora like these to magnify the bad. A lot of people are udner the impression that if they complain real hard someone would give a kitten and actually change things.

It’s ok to use a forum to make up your mind, but do understand the negatives are magnified.

"PVE" Monthly?

I did disagree with Anet bout the monthly pve to include wvw invader kills. WvW is in my opinion a hybrid between pve and pvp. but killing invaders is actually what the pvp-part of that hybrid is.

Best CMS for Guild Website?

I would say to use something simple like phpBB. Though it is a bit high demanding on the designer site to make anything out of the box of it’s core (a forum). It makes it for the content editor rather easy cause you only need one account for everything

How often does Shadow Behemoth event loop?

in Players Helping Players

the trigger and loop of the shadow behemoth is still an enigma. The main reason is that it gets bugged very easily making it hard to understand wich pre-event’s trigger it, and what triggers the pre-events.
