my thoughts :
bunker/support mesmer – nicely done with support and boonshare. can handle 1v2 on point. but does ele can share 2 boons and auras and cleanse better now?!
power shatter mesmer – does it really need chorno and wells?
powerlock mesmer – more suitable with chorno imo. but can it enter the pvp arena mid high lvl? i just wish
condi shatter mesmer – chorno doesnt really suit condi shatter. slow with confusion doest work well. but still this build works but do you really want to take condi chorno into pvp (same as condi shatter before)
the problem is with us
so much time we spend as d/p with stealth kiting than with staff with no stealth we dont know how to handle ….
with my p/p build which i took 2 months b4 the release i train alot without stealth and now i manage it just fine with bound
maybe we will see more s/d comeback along side the d/p meta (i dont think d/p need DD)
but staff atm need adjustment for gamestyle

I have been discussing this matter with fellow thieves of my guild (wvw).
In a WvW focus party context we agreed that the meta d/p + shortbow with DA/TR/SA won’t change much, except maybe for gear (adding some vitality to compensate the guard’s buffs loss).
The Shadow Arts Traits are too much of a must have, for quick stealth rez, Shadow Embrace obviously, the damage mitigation, and regen.
Trickery is on the same spot, the augmented INI pool, Stun on F1, and F1 cooldown reduction are mandatory.
Deadly Arts, synergize extremely well with Trickery, with Mug, and Improvisation.
In the end, I don’t see any room to put the new elite spec DD.
Even if it may give good mobility and little sustain, it won’t come as handy as Shadow Arts in terms of condi cleanse, regen, and survivability.Feel free to contradict though.
regarding condi removal i had so far with DD easy time to cleanse condition
my only problem was condi necro if he used signet on me which cover all conditions
mesmer stack mainly 2 condi torment and confusion so just 1 withraw remove them both
guard burning just dodge remove it
ele the same
ranger the same with bleed and poison
but if i cough in condi burst than i need to use all my dodge evade to cleanse them all
but so far DD works for me
i just want to be par with every other class cause atm regardig dmg and defnese ability we defenetly not par
i like the idea when i steal suddenly i have sr or ss ready up or trap.
25% cd wont give it and thief must has some quick skill activation so now i have to w8 few more seconds. but maybe works better with skill inherent reduce cd trait like signet and tricks ….
also only recharge 1 skill slot wont do that but i rather see 1 skill recharge than none and w8ing

Hey there, I loved your video, it’s great! I have an honest question, though. The Bound dodge is clearly superior to the other two dodges, but being a condi-based Thief (who hasn’t played much PvP), I’m tempted to take the Lotus dodge instead, for a bit of extra damage, kiting ability, and Blinding Bolts combo. Do you think the Lotus can be better than Bound in some situations?
for condi p/p i cant say i would recommend it for pvp atm. but you can try it p/p with trap and trapper runes which gives you stealth
your low armor and hp makes yo so vulnerable for cc and burst dmg

But thief isn’t supposed to be about ranged play – why else have shadowstep teleports to the opponent and high mobility?
We’re a highly mobile (lulz) class that darts in and out hitting hard and fast, using blind and stealth to disorientate and exasperate. It may not quite work like that in reality all the time, but that’s the base idea. The staff plays into this (from what I hear, yet to get the Daredevil specialisation yet) with lots of evasive actions.
I don’t want to see thieves standing at 1200 distance plinking away with short bow/pistols so I really don’t want to see a range increase.
ATM thief has hard time melee in tpvp also diversity in play style
Like guard has range longbow
Good thief plays longer in his Sb than burst fast in melee
With all the aoe wells traps we can’t do kitten
ANET common do so with SB and pistols
every other class has better dmg than us and also they got better range
now as we cant go melee with all the traps ,well, aoe, chill, stealth you probably see by now that we needs you to hear us (at least me)
sure more buff (or nerf to others) are needed but start with this pls
you are loosing the thief community slowly but surely
also few tips with Daredevile you should consider:
weakening strikes – when enemy weaken you take 20% less dmg from him/ or you get protection for 3 sec
evasive empourment – when dodge you do 10% more dmg and take 10% less dmg for 2 sec
driven fortitude – when evade you heal and take 10% less dmg for 2 sec
rickoshet – bring it back as a baseline with pistols
sb+pp range 1200
this will give thie thief short windows of defense with 10%-30% less dmg for 2-3 sec

Not a problem. I am never going to be a high tier pvp player nor do I have an organized team to play with so even if it is not meta as long as it is enjoyable and I have a fighting chance then I am happy.
so far this build with DD gave me the most wins (higher the d/p) as i hardly in melee range . but if i get focused i am dead

so this is my concept i am working around and would love to get feedback as i tried this only few times and it worked 50% of the time.
the concept is to use as much as possible the AA stealth attack to KD
to get stealth i use trap runes with 2 traps and 1 heal trait traps and SA line so steal is stealth. so basicaly i got 5 stealth abilities which can be rotated
my problems: every class has some stability spamming . rev when dodging, ele when using his attunment, ranger, warrior, mesmer if traited, necro with RS
so i need someone to remove it b4 i burst. or to w8 till it wear off.
also thief atm too squishy with all the dmg around and aoe so melee attack is very dangerous. thus i tough maybe to go soldier and to be some sort of point holder or cc helper also with weakness and blind. but than my dmg drops down drasticaly.
but maybe the hard cc may be too needed so it can be viable?

you are right. ranger and engi got huge dmg mitigation. protection 33% . rune of scrapper 7% more toughness etc..

just take axe off hand and you have another gap closer common
the problem now as i see for thief is they cant handle the pressure in pvp from melee cause all the traps , aoe, chill, etc.. guards, necro, ranger, mesmer have
which is why i have more easy time with p/p but than again why not to role other class and contribute better…

your main weakness is hard cc and condi bomb as your condi cleanse comes from evades and dodges this is why you have lots of endurance gain

Build is bad, opponents are bad, you are bad.
Don’t take it personally, thief & daredevil are both in a bad spot. But this video contributes to nothing of significance in terms of high-end pvp gameplay or the viability of thief in the pvp scene.
you know how many vids i see out there which makes me think the enemies are bad. all the wvw duels pretty much against bad players. and why? cuase thief in a bad spot.
i just try to take the p/p and clean of the dust of it. and it works.
i duel against my friends who were +500 rank and i consider good players. and it works and sometimes it just dont.for high end i state p/p wont make it there and probably/maybe thief either.

we are cool. i also saw his video and its seems more wvw build variant 1v1 dueling. dash wont save you in team fight ….. and the ability to stealth and sneak with perma blind is priceless . also his dmg mostly came from d/p and not p/p

The buffed vigor beats the steal in the long run, IMO. Escapists absolution + unhindered extended dodge animation is godlike condi clear. Have a ranger rapid fire you and he’ll cleanse all of the condis for you. Don’t forget condi mesmer and their cheesy crap finally screws themselves over. The mesmer+the clones will make sure they negate their own condi application. Burn guard drops his whole burst and then smites, the smite will easily cleanse everything you need.
For daze, you’ve got access to headshot if absolutely necessary (interrupting DH barrage, true shot/reaper gravedigger etc).
You’ll never really enjoy that initiative damage boost since you’re constantly burning it up. Again, if you want damage, 10% damage boost when target has condi applied to them and another 20% with executioner (hell, improv is also great if you feel like the damage isn’t necessary).
As far as I can see, the only realistic bonus trick gives that acro or DA don’t offer is the 3 initiative, but experienced thieves don’t burst all of their initiative in one go unless they’re sure it’ll take the target down.
you do know that evade cleanse only 1 condi every 1 sec. so you cant cleanse all condi on one evade…
i do think that bound is much better cause of the blind and the ability to stealth so enemy has to retarget you. had 1v1 versus ele and ranger on contesting point and didnt die until they did 2v1 and than i just disengage. while with dash seem more roaming wvw ability with p/p

wvw sure even better than pvp as you get higher dmg modifier and also work nice with zerg as you pew pew from range
I find daredevil incredibly useful. I have been able to beat most builds with it, the hardest matchup being scrapper. If you don’t think that the staff is a good burst weapon, just try user #2 -> steal and watch their hp go from 100% to 30%. Its about as mutch damage as backstab, only you don’t need to be in stealth or behind them.
Escapist’s Absolution + Dash combined with 5 dodges (3+heal) is the best condi removal thief has probably ever had, and I find Dash gives greater survivability than D/P stealth.
IMO, arenanet did a great job with daredevil. The only people don’t realize this is because is doesn’t match their preconceived notions.
you mean in pvp? as its hard to play 1v1 as a thief without loosing time just doing 1v1.
i hoped for staff to be more unique weapon instead of just dmg as d/p . maybe its too soon to tell after i play with it more
I still haven`t lost a game on my thief since the expansion. I`ve only won 3 times though…. Either way unless there was an MMR reset, Daredevil seems strong. I’ve been player a zerker build (13k hp with wurm runes) and barely die. It is very fast paced and fun. I actually won my last game paired with another thief. We only won by 8 points and kills at the end, it was beautiful come back (we decapped everything and killed our way from a 30 points behind).
I think if you like Thief, you will probably enjoy the daredevil. If you felt Thief was underwhelming, you probably won’t feel very different now. The Daredevil is every bit as twitch focused as the Thief. You need to be on the ball all the time and one mistake can kill you. But it feels a little like playing old school Vindictus at times on my old Lann.
Fast paced and has strengths. I think the daredevil elite spec is wonderfully done; one of the more balanced elites. It doesn’t feel stronger per se than normal traitlines, but it is specialized and works really well for what it does. I am so excited for the sniper elite spec coming next (fingers crossed)
this is the problem ppl facing now with DD compare to others elite spec.
DD seem balance. with good condi cleanse while attacking so can go without SA, nice dodges abilities so can go without ACRO,
but what unique it brings to the thief?. none. as other saud befoe just another dodge (or 2 with steal)
necro got great dmg in melee and nice soft cc aoe. can play condi with burning, minions master with rise etc…
mesmer can play now bunker support and powerblock and the bect concept for elite IMO
ranger – havent play it but i heard ppl like it alot both power spec and support spec
ele – also nice conpet which is bugged atm but can go without water line with shouts and rune which cleanse condi etc..
also every other class got dmg buffed while thief stay the same. why? cause of stealth
d/p will be the meta for long time
you wont see much interupt builds like s/p in pvp
i love the thief and hope anet will adress its problems soon or else all thief will go revenant….

I think the problem you saying is with the staff and not the trait line
I find the trait line as an alternative to shadow art
My dp thief handle it well and also PP
With staff I theory craft more control build than dmg
i have better build
taking more video material for it so it will be up soon
and yes bound trait is much better it team fight imo atm

the only problem i found with my thief is that itst hard to play with when my ping goes above 110 while with other class which are more forgiving you still can
what i have found funny is that p/p thief is hard counter to thus build

but basically every other range class dmg is hard-counter to trap ranger

first of all why you wanna do 1v1
The official GW2 Thief WikiThieves are expert in the shadow arts. They utilize stealth and shadowstepping to surprise and to get close to their target. They’re deadly in one-on-one combat using their agility, acrobatic fighting style, and the ability to steal to overcome their enemies.
Don’t play support guardian, your only role is to remove conditions and heal people in team fights.
Don’t play pewpew ranger, your only role is to snipe people that are unaware of you being there.
Don’t play engineer, your only role is to run around being tanky and holding off people.
Don’t play mesmer, your only role is to burst.
Don’t play warrior, your only role is to go rampage and throw rocks.
Garbage viewpoint. All of the aforementioned classes have a spec that allows them to play in a manner other than the one you listed, and all of the classes you mentioned do not include “running away” or “utility” as their strong suit.
You’ve missed the point in an effort to be snarky. Try again.
Bad thieves are bad in pvp because they concentrate more on being in team fights and 1v1ing classes, instead of roaming to +1 and rotating the map to backcap nodes. If you don’t like that class, talk to your dev on Daredevil, surely some one must have talked about expanding the Thief role.

speaking of wvw point of view. thief are deady 1v1 and sometime 1v2. but take this on pvp where you should also contest,res,stomp, decap, cap etc and have timer above your head… it just waist of time. if no times was than everone would go pu condi mesmer

when playing in premade i am loosing sometimes and playing against premade i am winning sometimes

first of all why you wanna do 1v1 when you can teleport so fast between point to help your team in 3v2 or 4v3 and secure few kills while decaping and releave some pressure from your team.

also regarding 1v1. good thief can handle 1v1 versus almost any class if time is on hand. d/p with stealth kite few hits here and there stealth again and repeate when enemy skills are on cd can yiled a win for you. but again loosing time.

1v3 as condi mesmer. down 1 dd ele, and put 2 enemy below 25% hp so when help came it was fast kill.
4v5 win as we were the blue team while i though we are red and scream to my team how can we loosing in a 5v4

range attack of any kind will kill any necro
necro doesnt have range weapon – staff
so thief with SB and burst at the right moment with blind spamming can counter it
ranger LB etc..the main idea for the necro is they are good point holder with DS second health pool. so if help comes in time it will be hard for you to take them
if you going melee than go warrior with lots of cc. but other than that dont or spam blind
