with survival build it would be buff as you got 2 more conditions cleanse and fury and add rune which give more boons like migh every 48 seconds
guessing traps build 2,6,6,0,0 and survival build 2,0,6,6,0
armor i am guessing mix rabid, healing power

i am new to a ranger
the main idea is to stack fast up to 20 stacks of bleeding covered with few more conditions like vulnerability, poison, chill, burning so the enemy wont have time to react
work nice 1v1 against condi engi, thief and mesmer
my main problem are d/x thieves stealth game and meditation guardian
and i cant handle 1v2
do ranger even can handle 1v2?
is it any good for wvw roaming and group play?
try it out and you’ll be amazed
in some cases power p/d even easier than s/d or d/p but in some its harder
melee would be the easiest as you just shadow shot for 3-5k dmg and put you on safe spot
but you must master your cnd
try 2,6,6,0,0 build first (like basic d/d) and after a while if you want to do more dmg than d/p or d/d go 6,6,2,0,0

i would think of a staff like ninja as unique weapon and more as aoe defense weapon
all attacks cleave with 300 range
AA chain
aa1 hit on the body 500 dmg base
aa2 hit and push back foes 150 range 500 dmg base
aa3 throw your staff on your foe for 700 dmg
aa stealth hit your enemies on the head and stun them if in 130 range, or vulnerable them for 5 stacks for 5 seconds
skill 2 hit your foes in the legs to cripple them for 3 seconds for 1k dmg and if your enemy vulnerable your dmg is doubled , 3 ini
skill 3 swirl your staff while reflect projectile for 3 seconds, 4 ini, and when activate hit your foes for 2k dmg, 1 ini
skill 4 smash the ground with your staff and create smoke field (blast finisher) and stealth, 6 ini
skill 5 block attacks around your area for 2 seconds, 6 ini points
so thief will have mid range aoe weapon and could help the group with stealth, blocks as both heavy ini so cant be spammable
and also have nice cleave weapon with average dmg with skill 1 and 2
traps as for now dont do anything
ambush – in duel its nice in venom share only
needle trap – immobilize and poison which cleans easily so you used 30 sec utility for nothing
tripwire – kd for 3 sec and then what
shadow trap – used rarely in pvp for fast moving in map
but thief need stealth, dodges, evades, blinds and combo or spike dmg which traps dont give them at all.
so maybe give traps more ability which can help the thief
traps must be radius area like ranger
2 traps should be condition base and 2 power base (like venoms do) or
2 traps stealth base and 2 traps boon/blind base
and lower cd as 30/24 seconds the thief gonna be dead without any good resource
thats why thief mainly use ss and sr and the 2 main utilities
so tripwire should do kd and 3k dmg (for 3 seconds as you want the aoe effect) – could be good in power base build for more spike dmg and to help keep distance while doing so
needle trap should get more conditions but shorter time like 1 torment, 1 burning, 1 confusion for 3 seconds and 3 seconds pulse for short aoe condi burst (so ppl will invest in 100% duration) and maybe be useful in wvw and pvp controlling areas and it wont be op as ppl can see red circle
ambush – give stealth to you when activate it and when trigger it and your enemies blinded also pulses for 3 seconds – could be good in the hands of p/p which has no means to stealth. and other setup wont use it as they need more power and ss/sr
if you want pd go power you’ll be amazed

Anet you see thieves community even in traps thread talk about venoms
so pls do something about it or delete it
as the new change in trait and pistol
here are some example of leeching abilities (was discussed in other forum)
most will say the trait change 5%-8% isnt worth it (i might agree as you see i dont use it in this vid) also as sole minor buff to your hp
but all in all leech abilities can work nice even with d/x as now it hits 2 target
there are few more build options

i try it few time against warrior meta builds and didnt work for me at all, but against other builds and classes 50% success (i need more practice with this set)
i think you miss the point here
its not supposed to work as regen (i.e over time) rather as burst heal (semi heal skill)
i will try to show it on video soon with testing builds i have done around this idea

like
1. we can use traps from range
2. lower cd as we need more defense ability so 3 sec kd in 24 icd won’t be much. so i can kd/immobilize every 10 seconds then wow some mean of defense tool.
3. traps does higher dmg (i mean much much higher to take as skill)
4. larger area of effect (circle and 240r )
5. more defense ability like smoke, fire, water for more combos (with p/p can be very nice)

1v1 you dont need thief guild and no venom share as pd alone can kill easily but yes it so much fun to down ppl in 3 seconds while eating while talking to your wife while changing diaper to your baby
not so much as you cant stealth in tpvp
your conditions take too much time to pressure
guardian/ele/necro can hold till his friend come and kill you
but its nice easy going build or if you team wants you as venom share you can allow them to do splits more easy but need coordination. you share venom go to far try to cap it or harass go again to help in 3v3 situation share again and all over again

with one unload i can get back almost 3k health alongside with this trait…To get 3k health back with this trait, you would need to do 37,500 damage, all crit.
Please tell me how you did 37,500 damage with 1 unload, because I’d love to run that spec.
Or were you taking into account SOM, food, and a dozen other factors? You know, things that Aren’t IP.
IP is garbage – your reliance on mixing its heals up into a bunch of other effects to make it look halfway decent only further proves my point.
You know when executioner is good? When it’s slotted. Sure, you can make it better with might stacks, food, vulnerability on your target and so on, but it’s good enough to be taken on its own merit. It doesn’t need crutches to seem halfway decent

1 unload does 4 hit from 8 crit hits for 4000 dmg so with this trait its 5% 200 health
som 125*8=1000
sigil of leeching 975 health
sigil of blood 450 so can be 1 crit as it has 5 sec cd
rune of vampirism – 15% chance with unload very food chance to proc 975
after heal skill use another 975
food 325 with 1 sec cd may proc 2 times so 650
assassin reward trait 420 health (not must)
total health gain from 1 unload = 4670 so 3k very possible if some hits miss
but again you lose power and 5% to 8% is only 120 more health which is too low to be GM trait
but if you take it with food only it can regen you for 400 shps if you crit
but i agree thief are not warrior so anet must not do this compareness as thief needs burst heal effect and not over time effect
lets say if you crit you get 50% hp back and 10 seconds cd more suitable to the thief gameplay (warrior can go health gain over time but thief has no time as he must burst fast and stealth)

as if you need health regen so before you use your health skill you do small fast burst and get back 800-1200 health which is nice as it 25% from regular heal skill
No SB, so where’s the mobility? I mean, in a close environment of max 5 players, I can’t see how this build would justify the presence of such a thief instead of other classes/builds when we drop the mobility down.
Edit: the 7 slot is still empty; reserved for SoS maybe?

few tips in wvw:
run dollies – take withdraw with rune of the centaur and thrill of the crime => perma swiftness while stealthing them with stealth abilities SR and other combos
flip camps easily with condi base and caltrops
tag keeps and tower easily so you enemy will rotate the map or split forces
perma stealth and hide with mesmer inside keeps
most important be a pain in the kitten for the ele and necro in group fight
now with the buff coming up to the power p/p and p/d venom share group play :
p/p power build 0,6,0,4,4 signet of malice steal food and gm trait you can heal 2.8k every unload and with ricochet

pd venom share group play OP dmg burst to 5 allies so group up with 2 power necros 2 power engi and buff them up with venoms and they will be killing machine while you can harass easily between cd
so it seems to me anet want the thief to be more group oriented than solo as they nerf the abilities to hit harder while buffing the abilities to gain health or give more to the group
so again more nich build style
p/p could be more viable in group play but 900 to 1050 isnt that much if melee train run you over, thus maybe 1200 as any other classes have would be good
group build available:
power p/p with various healing ability each unload can heal 2.8k (in wvw mainly cause food) but deal less dmg without executioner
condi p/x with full venom share stronger than ever (maybe in pvp area too?!)

i use balthazar from the start and use withdraw in the beginning to push my enemy to use cleanse earlier thus my seconds burst is free kill and if he push me i can dodge and stealth till 15 seconds pass and all over again
i once kill d/p thief just with withdraw and burning and AA alone (he probably wasn’t too good but was funny as he didnt know what to do with the 6 seconds burning |)
chill also great against melee classes like warrior, dd ele etc as they wouldnt be able to hit you

the 2,6,0,0,6 made for cnd bs and hs spamming for great dmg above the d/p which has no cnd
but you can do 1vx with it as its hard for you to stealth and get the benefit of it
with team is great as you can burst and stealth to your next target
in wvw in raid i use it to down ppl fast 1 by 1 and look for the enemies below 50% hp
still maybe in 1v1 its good as you have the time to handle the fight (as you can see 3 min fights 1v1) for me its boring if the fight is over 1 min and against thief who is perma stealth d/p . but this is me
i like to take more risk and go with more power and crit
even in tpvp i took an ele in 2 seconds that my teammates was amazed how i did it
but in 1v2 against 2 hambow warriors i couldnt do a thing till my team came to help.
and as i can see the cnd spamming and the right time to hit is the key to win and not the gear you wear.

Because P/D gets to make use of 6 out of 8 of celestial’s stats, Power, Condition Damage, Precision, Ferocity, Toughness and Vitality. For a full set that is about 3000 attribute points being put to work, versus about 2600 for a set of regular 3-stat gear.
but again does a thief can allow himself to be with average attribute points
like mediocre power/condition which is basically no burst at all
sure i can kill bad players but against the meta builds and some variant you probably wont
really fun to watch
but i dont think its the build rather the player
i also used to run some variant with p/p 0,6,0,4,4 or 0,6,0,2,6 with life steal sigil and runes and food for more life steal
ints nice in 1v1 and gave me some nice result as ppl dont use to fight in so many blinds
but for me i yield about 50-60% winning.

its also depends on your playstyle
if you more stealthy thief than you wont do sustain dmg much often so you would be better with sigil which give burst like air+fire (air will do 1.2-1.5k, fire 0.9-1k)
if you more AA player who knows when to dodge and hit again you should benefit more with constant dmg umplifier like force
i prefer air+fire and sometime blood on my second weapon set
p/d with celestial – why ? pistol is the worst dmg in the thief hands combine with celestial making it worst. i would take carrion or even full power build as his play style changed from burst to kite
i changed to power p/d and its so useful wepaon set versus ele/mes/engi/ranger/thief
even some warrior builds as you can burst from range and be safe
also if you closly look from thief players videos in the last year you will notice how anet change the thief play style from bursty player to kite player
go 6,2,6,0,0 meditation build full condi (pvp carrion, wvw dire) you will do great 1v1 and some 1v2 and also in group fight
try d/p as defense weapon set .also you can do nice combo with blind shadow strike and shadow shot bp+hs +sneak etc
all the above rune suggestion are great it all depends on your style
i like balthazar – new condition which no one expect you to do which buff your dmg around 1k dps
grenth – also used it few times. great against melee class as p/d keep you in safe distance while you can pew pew them to death. also good in gorup fight for aoe chill like mention above
krait – the most common but for me doesnt give any edge. same conditions every 45 sec which i can proc even without the runes. but give more duration to our AA bleeding. so for me not so usefull like the above runes
torment – another good runes which buff you duration mainly
carrion v dire – you wont benefit enough from the power as you do with toughness
the pistol dmg is the lowest so even with 2k power you wont do much dmg
it might work in pvp and some duels in wvw but if you get stun by hammer warrior you will go down faster than with dire armor
i might go with 0,0,4,4,6 for more condi cleanse blind and bit more toughness
also play what ever suit you
after you master it you will know how to kill one
i used torment and it could be fun to cause 11 stacks of in fast but as it is same condition it can be cleanse much easier than new condition like burning and also burning does much higher dmg
dont forget that p/d thieves can down ppl in 5 seconds if they already used their cleanse skills so having 10 sec of torment might be useless
and yes the price is to high for it

if you dual roaming you must improve your target decision
1 d/d ele – they do nice dmg and its aoe
2 thief they do most burst
3 uplevel as they are easy to down fast
4 ranger also easy target and necro
5 guardian and warrior easy but longer to kill
6 mesmer the most annoying to kill
also call your target for fast dual burst. dont work alone . as you saw you could down faster if you target the same enemy
use cnd on one enemy and bs on the other to confuse them and force them using dodge and utilities
i remember the time thief could take 1v5 and win…..

d/d have hard time
s/d boring for both
you can go commander as all class commander usually dont do lot of dmg rather have to stay alive longer to give command
so aim for 3k armor and higher vitality with full pvt for power dmg or dire for condition dmg (pvt much better)

high power so your dmg will be nice
high armor and vitality
good utilities than benefit your team with you (i know ppl dont like traps but give it a try as its group build and not solo)
you basically using SB for blast and poison area pressure and s/p to secure a location when there are down enemies
your venoms which you sharing at the right time can immobilize and stun 5 enemies fast and with traps which unblockable can further help you to control the area around you as commander and give 10% more dmg so your team dmg will be higher
you shouldn’t use SS SR as team must follow you so basically any thief escape utilities isnt for you as commander
and you are not lootbag if your team has 2 guardian and warrior and ele who know the job
dont forget to use PW when burst as it evade skill so while not taking dmg you are doing some (it like the guardian block ability and warrior immunity for dmg)

i started as d/d and even when it got shift to d/p
sb is by far the most commonly used as stated above – good range dmg (sometimes higher than p/d)
s/d is again melee weapon and if you get used to it too much it can be hard to play d/d as you might lose too many ini (at least i am)
lately i started working around p/d build and i find it best with d/p because of #3 combos and not the perma stealth which i hate
every time i see d/p and i get them below 50% the use #5 #2 and start trolling so i back away from boredom
i use SR combo if i am sure i gonna for the kill from range 1v1 (below 25%hp)

i would love to see also how to play a thief in pvp area even with pugs tpvp
i main problem is when i go far and i get 2v1 against meta build and its very hard to win and control the point as thief so what should i do etc…

@Geiir – tested the dmg with your new trait idea – it is bit higher if you manage your ini right above 5 and also you get bit more condition dmg so your actual tick is higher with 5 bleed stack its more 400 dps for 4 seconds
and the food is good idea too!
