Swamp Fractal.

this is actually pretty hilarious. so one of the easiest fractals, u just want to remove it from low lvls because noobs cant be expected to listen and they always screw it up? tell me its not the wisps part they fail at lol. next you’ll be complaining that underwater fractal is too hard coz the jellyfish boss is too hard, he kills ur entire group and throws them into the lightning cages. heres an idea why not try a more challenging lvl than 1-5.. where you’ll find groups that have at least some idea wat to do :p

Eles r pretty nice but you also need a lotta skill to pull one off. Trust me I have an ele and when I was first learning it, usually downed all the time and when I wasn’t would be struggling to survive. Probably not the best fit for him judging from his post lol.. nah bro if you want heavy then go heavy. Dont worry abt magic thats not always best, though it can be quite flashy at times. Warrior or guardian ftw.. most noobs go warrior since thats kinda brainless. I’d recommend the same :P

Why can't I see some nerfs in patch notes?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

you can’t expect them to list every little change in the patch notes :p they listed the major ones anyway. For instance another unlisted minor bug fix was with omnom ghost, its no longer glitchy as kitten. I agree they sort of blindsided us with that cof p1 change, that was a bit uncalled for. At worst you’ll see more player casualties as they race for that room and then realize its closed.. then again i never use that room so its all meh for me. Just lots more ppl joining me to camp my spot… hehe :P

Survival mechanics of professions

This might be a shot in the dark but I’m pretty sure all classes are capable of perma endurance bro. Just need sigil of energy and some vigor (or endurance regen food). And if you think your thief is squishy u should try ele :P For class suggestion, whenever I see ‘PvE’, ‘survivability’, and ‘bigger margin error’ all in one post its always warrior. Highest health of all classes thats something even guards cant boast. For instance we were jumping around in dredge fractal in my group, a fall almost killed me but i survived, even in zerk gear.. however my engi buddy wasn’t so lucky. Basically warrior is one of the only classes you can afford to screw up a lot and still remain standing. Guardians, yes you got more blocks but you also have to use your prot/regen etc. and if you forgot to then BOOM insta-down.

Staying alive in dungeon speed-clears

in Elementalist

Posted by: nagr.1593

nagr.1593

The first issue is running past mobs. I see Warriors and Guardians doing it with ease, hardly losing any health and fantastic mobility, but as I try to stay close to them my health simply runs out. If I eat even 1 CC/cripple I’m dead. ~11k health is basically 1-2 hits from any elite mob, what am I supposed to do??

Second issue is corner-zerging bosses. Again, my health simply vanishes to standard boss/AoE attacks. I summon FGS and go butter-nuts with that crazy awesome damage, next thing I know I’m downed and being a burden on the group. Currently I run S/F for dungeons, focus offhand is great for survivability.

People may say “well dodge”, except that the heavy classes barely seem to even NEED to dodge and I don’t have infinite stamina, it’s just a matter of time before I get hit and insta-killed.

What to do

“For the things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing them.”

The above is a quote by Aristotle, meaning sometimes practice is the best solution. After you try hard and fail a lot, eventually you won’t fail so much once you understand what to do. I main a warrior and even in full zerk its easier for me to survive in dungeons. However switching to an ele you realize just how squishy they are. I run same gear on my ele, full zerk with scholars and similar traits. When I started out I used to down/die a lot and was basically of no use. However just like any other class you need to understand which skills to designate as your ‘panic’ button. With a warrior in some cases you might be forced to take invul/stability skills. Eles have that in-built into their weapon skill set instead (with focus). Currently I run S/F for dungeons, focus offhand is great for survivability. Also while warriors have more ‘convenient’ mobility, eles do have better (with FGS).

For trash running through mobs: always take stability/invuln, condi-removal and stun-breaks, any class. If I’m expecting to get hit by mobs I use focus earth 2 and 5, 4 to remove any condis. I also take Signet of Air for speed bonus if needed. For general survivability I use Fire 3 for vigor, Water 3 for heal, Air 4 to reflect projectiles (you have to learn which attacks to use this for though). Also blinds/stuns when you can use them and you usually won’t have to dodge those. I almost always have Arcane Shield just in case, Armor of Earth too sometimes (like for the spider boss in AC or Alpha in P1). FGS is very nice for corner-stacking too but sometimes you will have to drop it and use invuln or something, or unstack for a short while to avoid being downed. The mechanics of FGS is similar to warrior GS, you can use 3 to evade plus it has a fast cd. I’m still semi-experienced but this is what I use atm, downed occasionally but not as much as I used to be. Hope this helps

Besides i dunno how u would have fun running the wisps, i always manage to fall into all the traps ever set and get so much cripple and bleed stacks on me. Basically i’m not the best guy to run wisps and if i have the chance to sit out i will :P

Warrior stats vs Guardian?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: nagr.1593

nagr.1593

Warriors have the highest health pool of all classes so don’t even try to compare there. For fair comparison also remove all your traits/gear and don’t forget skills..if you have signets on warrior or activate FGJ etc. you’ll have higher numbers. Though I see stat comparison kinda pointless. Bottom line, in the long run zerker guard will outdps a zerker warrior.

Theres no ‘new hawtness’ with scholars I dunno what u mean but its been this way for months. The argument is that as long as you can stay above 90% health ~25% of the time, scholars is better than ruby. Even when you’re not getting that 10% bonus from scholars, ruby is only slightly better. Thus generally scholars>ruby and u dont even need to do any math

In general to ‘burst’ something means to output high dmg in a short interval. For instance warrior hundred blades—numbers like 42k in 3.5sec. Warriors are very good at burst dps which is probably why they have a wiki entry for ‘burst’ which also means to expend all adren in a single blow (F1 for us usually).

best way to obtain luck?

in Players Helping Players

nagr.1593

I bought the gem kit with money so it wasn’t gold problem. It has unlimited uses and costs 3 c/use. Each blue or green (3s10c to 3s50c) I salvage nets me around 2 or 3 times amount of either silk, linen or gossamers. These mats are very valuable on the trading post, plus about 3,000 points of luck. Even if I don’t get profit from re-selling mats, my good magic find does improve my loots in dungeons or world boss farming.

This may not be applied to the OP case, but I find it costs less in amount of gold investment.

either troll or noob I don’t know.. more in fractions of copper. which is hardly anything.. hardly in terms of ‘gold’. I prefer Basic over Crude kits simply because it has more charges, as an example it costs 3.52c per use compared to salvage-o-matic’s 3s cost. Plus both have same return rate of any salvaged goods, luck..so I dunno why u would list that. Only benefit/difference of that would really be the infinite uses. though with say a personal merchant that means easy-access to salvage kits as well. plus its tons more useful, if u can afford it.

I just use regular mouse (Logitech $15 wired one) and keyboard. A word of advice don’t get one of those fancy ergonomic pseudo-gaming keyboards (I tried one) because its actually very clunky and hard to get used to since they omit one or more keys that should be more easy-access..if u know what i mean. It’s probably more of a personal issue but my point is you don’t need a gaming mouse etc. I use the default bound keys, AWSD to move, tab to switch targets, ` to wep swap. I use keys 1-5 for wep skills and mouse-click my utility skills (yes I am aware thats kinda noobish :\). When on my ele switching attunements is somewhat tricky so I’ve been thinking about mapping these (i.e. F1-4) to Ctrl+QWER. You could try something similar. And when its a question of what class to pick to understand the game mechanics, the answer is almost always warrior. Many consider them the most easy to play class. solid defense, mash-1-key-to-win, brainless maneuvers.. so on. Just kidding about that last part btw :p

What are the best ways to level up?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: nagr.1593

nagr.1593

Once u have a lv80, its actually really easy to level an alt. Find a fast dungeon, since they all give 75% exp upon completion (more at lower lvls). Then switch to your alt near the end to get the exp. This is the method I used when map exploration got a bit tedious for me. Its like turning on ‘easy mode’ for lvling. Don’t be a total scrub though; map exploration, hearts, and events are still a good idea. I wish I could say it wasn’t boring as kitten but I’d be lying through my teeth. Just make a goal, say 20% more towards map completion, then take a break, then same thing again. Heck if it’s gonna be a chore, at least make it a useful one—two birds with one stone and all.

PVE build

in Warrior

Posted by: nagr.1593

nagr.1593

Try swapping out s/s for GS. its simply better, both for mobility and overall DPS. The mechanics of the GS are simple but the 2 main things u should be aware of:
1. GS 3 can be used as both an extra evade and to escape.
2. GS 5 can be used as both a gap closer and to escape (with auto-target off)

Now for ur 2nd wep set, in the case of open-world PvE u could try switching it out to either longbow or axe/x. Hammer is a good choice for CC but u also need to kill mobs fast. If u cant manage that, axe AoE cleave is more useful. With axe I tend to run sword/mace/wh/shield offhand (basically any offhand) depending on what is best for the situation. With mace offhand, u get knockdown. With sword/shield offhand, u get blocks with different mechanics. WH is good for granting swiftness and vigor, and removing movement-impairing condis like cripple and immobilize. Once you become experienced enough you’ll want to experiment with the zerk build that was posted, thats good for anything PvE if u know how to use it.

Skillwise, for solo PvE u can try out either Surge or HS for heal skills—both have their uses. FGJ/SoR is always useful, Endure Pain for when u need direct-damage invuln. Condi removals, either Shake it Off! or SoS will work. Banners are not ideal for open-world PvE since you’ll be running around a lot, go signets instead.

Alt leveling

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: nagr.1593

nagr.1593

fastest way is probably by alt switching at end of dungeons. i dunno if that still works, but that was one way i lvled my ele to 80, besides exploration and hearts when i could. If u can run ur alt to fireheart, u can run through cof p1 on ur 80 and switch out when the endboss is almost dead. u get 75% exp this way, more at lower lvls. its fast, so u can get 3lvls per day in under an hour. but again ull need to do hearts/exploration when u can, as its not much faster than doing it the normal way. Its only at higher levels (60+) that u start to notice a difference. though u would need a lv80 if u plan to lvl an alt this way.

I think everyone agrees that map completion is a guaranteed waste of time..lol. Even if your having fun it still manages to feel mostly like a chore. And frankly I’m not sure there’s much they can do about that. As someone trying for world completion on a 2nd char, I agree exploration and hearts are in equal measure demanding. However I feel theres slight room for improvement, mainly how they could make it less time-consuming to discover the same regions again and again on each char. Say you discovered a WP on one char, you could port to that WP on another char that doesn’t have it discovered. However this could be an exponential cost..so the 1st one would cost like 10s, the next one 1g. Basically anything to make it feel less tedious to getting completion multiple times would be a welcome impovement.

Dungeons

in Players Helping Players

nagr.1593

I have plenty of experience in all typical roles (tank, heals, dps).

1) If I randomly join a dungeon should I announce that I am new to the dungeon (and dungeons in general), or just “follow the crowd”?

2) Will my support/defense oriented spec be welcome?

3) What are the typical time commitments for a dungeon?

4) Any other advice is welcome.

1) For CoF and CoE all paths, def announce your new. reason is these paths have mechanics that entire group needs to be experienced with and if you decide to hold ur breath then you’ll waste a lot of time and probly contribute to a group wipe. in other paths like TA/Arah..nah dont say anythin. reason is you’ll probly down alot in those dungs anyway since your new.

2) Most people alrdy told u but classes in GW2 r all be built around self-heal+DPS, at least in regards to dungeons and group content. theres no tanks in game, you can maybe tank mobs for a few secs but try for any longer and ull die. dont try to heal ur group except when they’re all stacking, boons r most useful then. basically wat im sayin is go full zerk for DPS if u can, looking at ur build ur runes/sigils r kinda crap (no offense) and will probly result in longer than ideal dungeon run times. Though if not full zerk i’d recommend knight at a minimum, until u get the hang of it.

3) depends on 2 things rly, how long u want it to take and how much u suck at it. for the 1st thing if you try to skip all the mobs u can and how much personal DPS your bringing., you can optimize ur run time. for the 2nd its basically an experience check, whether u know the boss fights etc. In general though typical run times is ~15min with a decent group. Arah is the exception, as a tougher dung with all newbie pugs guaranteed multiple wipes, upwards of 30min.

Still worst skill ever, got me killed at least as much as it saved me.
Today’s QQ is about the skill still sending in your last target direction even though u removed target before use, that’s right , right when u r trying to get away.
Just make the stupid thing ground targeted like whirlwind, its not like its hitting anything anyhow.

rather than posting clueless rants like this which only serves to underscore how u have no idea how this game works, why not try fiddling around with ur settings. try disabling auto-targetting like previous posters have mentioned. Rush is nothing special, just similar to other classes’ skills where by default if u have no target selected it’ll select the closest one, but u can override this..and even suggesting Rush not be single-target aynmore shows u have no idea how its meant to be used :P

on a side note Rush still does need to be fixed, though for a diff reason. in fighting Vet Risen Giants for instance, it still bugs out and dosnt work like its meant to. they were supposed to ‘fix’ this many patches ago but still hasnt entirely been.. clearly its an unresolved collision issue.

Nerf mobility

in Warrior

Posted by: nagr.1593

nagr.1593

Ele’s have one mobile skill with off hand dagger (so only D/D or S/D Eles get it). its range is less then rush and it is a 40 second recharge if it misses the target (20 if it hits, but kind of defeats the purpose of a disengage).

as an Ele in WvW though, I have yet to fully disengage from a warrior with a greatsword, and I have had more than a few run away from me.

I am not joining the nerf the warrior mobility bandwagon (as it would be boring for warriors to be kited to death). However, in the current state something on the warrior has to give.

your are aware right, ele mobility is vastly superior to warrior mobility..u have no reason to call for a nerf when other equally skilled classes have waay more options to disengage (thief etc). comparing RTL to Rush etc. is kinda pointless since your not looking at the big picture. With conjured weps (i.e. FGS) eles have access to much greater disengagement than warriors, tho with shorter string attached. compare the range/CD of FGS skills 3 and 4 to war GS skills to realize that just because some classes r granted the convenience of mobility in cases where it matters (i.e. WvW) obviously doesnt mean their class has greater overall mobility.

The gear differs based on which build you use. I have a full set of assasins/scholars, and full set of zerk/scholars, so I just switch out pieces of armor based on what build I’m running atm. My third set is assassins/might durations; I haven’t bothered to get a zerk/might duration set, since I only use might durations while pug’ing.

thats what i was trying to avoid, didn’t want to waste gold on 2x scholars set since I’m tryin to save up.. but i guess it cant be helped. might duration might actually be a good idea and i’ll check it out when i can.

I will try out S/F and see how that works for me. i actually didnt see the vid you had posted, i guess my only problem with scepter was that its hard to position tooth unless you have a target to use it on (you did a good job showing how to do that too). And yes, I’m using the ‘best build’ based on what I think my group would need..just that I’m surprised there are so many builds since I’m used to playing my war which only has one meta build

cof1 controller

nagr.1593

Ah..gating on cof p1. i can help since ive done this countless number of times. especially when i used to farm the path a few months ago, got help with rotations as well. Ive heard a number of variations, the pros back in the day gave tips to target the controller when the gate opens, use GS 4 → 5 as a gap-closer. Pop stability to prevent his pull, frenzy for quickness at the same time (or was it at the start?) GS 2 → 3 followed by axe F1 if you need it (most times you wont, with this rotation).

IMO the above approach is actually more complicated. the one i use is admittedly maybe a half-second slower, but a little simpler. Pop SoR/FGJ/Surge (for adren) before the gate opens, run up to it and pop stability/frenzy at the same time, GS 2 → 3 → swap to axe → F1 → axe auto (if needed). Here’s a vid to show. Its actually very very easy. http://youtu.be/WZY-jFtHurg?t=5m3s

I still feel cast bar implementation wuld be like turnin easy mode on. 100% effective cast bars would also mean 100% chance of dodgin evrything, btw. aka noobs would not need to learn dungs to be pro if they just looked at cast bars that told them when the next hit was comin. I believe the current system is fine, just need to take some time to undrstand dung/class mechanics if ever u happen to down. I agree with some bosses its kinda hard to tell when their next attk is lookin at their animations, with all the clutter/aoe spams from groups around them. Malrona/Leurent in TA are examples of this. Only mob i feel would absolutely need a cast bar is that Champ Frost wolf at the start of COE (is that its name?) because of his AoE that one-shots parties that stack, every 30sec or so. its hard to even tell when hes gonna use it next coz theres no animation/tell at all.

nagr.1593

this is not a bug (at least i dont think it is). happens to me all the time also, the way i fix it is by runnin around a bit. why are you camping the same spot for an hour anyway? This tends to happen alot in open-world PvE, where u are continuously drawing aggro from mobs. and if you have a habit of running rather than killing them all, you’ll probably get stuck in combat. So like I said u either have 3 options:
1. move around
2. suicide and take a WP
3. log out to char select → log back in

This is not limited to open-world only, though. a prime example of this in dungeons is in CoF P2, the lava part where you draw aggro from a lotta mobs and if someone else in your group also runs it at same time you can glitch it so youll remain stuck in combat even when your not. to fix it you do any of the 3 things i listed above.

Bad players play War. Good ones play guard

nagr.1593

On my warrior, I’m complete glass (PVE/dungeon), if I miss a Dodge, I either die 1-2 hits, or I survive and hope my heal is available.

On my guardian, also complete glass for same reasons, If I miss a dodge aegis usually gets it. Or I have protection up so its not a big hit. If the above aren’t true I probably get downed in 1-2 hits. But if not I can refresh aegis, go into invul mode to refresh virtues, pop shouts, spam blinds, use blocks…. Yeah, guardians are way easier to play IMHO. I play both classes in PVE/dungeon only and I have to say warriors are harder to play correctly, they have less margin for errors.

It is why guardians are turning into the ultimate PUG class in my experience.

so what does this prove..? other than that you know how to play one class moderately well but not the other. I run full glass on both my war and guard (for PvE), downed more often on my guard coz of a lower health pool.. granted that i do main my war. I’ll also admit that guards do have a slightly easier time staying alive (their blinds/blocks/prot etc.) But not that hard to stay alive on war either.. if you use evades on GS as well as Endure Pain etc. when/if you need it (comparable to guards invul anyway). Also a friendly tip, I find Surge better for dungs as i do take the occasional huge hits which HS cant outheal.

I recently lvled my ele to 80 and looking at the PvE guides on forums it seems conflicting views (maybe coz of the new patch?).. anyway I had a few things i was wondering about.. 1st which is the best mainhand/offhand wep in terms of dmg+utilities? when i say utilities I guess i would include combo fields. I am currently using D/F but I have heard dagger or scepter mainhand, focus or dagger offhand.. kinda confused. imo I can see S/D being useful to stack might easier, however with focus i think better utilities. is there an obvious choice or can i just wing it? I’m mostly using LH auto for everything so i dont think it would really matter.

My other question was about my gear/trait setup. In an organized group i think i have it down, however in cases when im pugging i won’t be able to use my crit food (too costly for me). So should I be lookin at assassins or zerker armor? I have all zerker trinkets atm. my traits are 10/10/25/25/0 looking at the meta thread (my 2nd choice 30/10/10/20/0 which i might switch out to later).

Skipping enemies

Posted by: nagr.1593

nagr.1593

I seriously wish that people would take the 1 – 2 extra minutes to clear an area instead of rushing through and about 75% of the time losing a minimum of one person on the way and having to wait until they can respawn and catch up.

Its more like 10mins min, with a decent group you’ll also be looking at multiple wipes if you actually decide to fight the mobs. In the case of the run after the Malrona boss, you’ll be looking at multiple spider mobs all with paralysis, in which stability/stun-break doesn’t help at all. In the case of the huge run in fwd path, all mobs have a Knight with devestating KD attks. You will see an example of this in the compulsory mob all groups r expected to clear before engaging Leurent, if u ever fight the Knight dude on open ground without stacking at all can expect at least 1 person downed. So no, you will actually waste more time if u decide to fight all the trash mobs that anet probably intended u to skip anyway. I would rather take 1-2 dead and probly a rage-quit than clearing the mobs and having the entire group wipe countless times as well as the run taking 2x as long. btw, a friendly tip you dont have to wait for every single member before a boss encounter. If the majority of your group makes it and the others cant run it on their own, your not obligated to wait for them..you can go ahead with it and clear a new WP for them to spawn at. I’ve beat Fyonna easily with 2-3 others. You dont need full group for everything, just makes it a little faster (and easier).

So what is this thread really for..? other than promoting those idiot pugs that ask me to stack so they can clear the hounds at the start of TA. Not a fan, by the way.

Is warrior the best for PvE?

in Players Helping Players

nagr.1593

It depends how you play the class, really. Both wars/guards are capable of sustaining heavy abuse. Wars being more forgiving and yes, harder to screw up even if you have little to no clue what your doin. Which is why most people who are new tend to roll a warrior. As I have both a war and a guard I can say I find both fun to play, both in the hands of a competent player can achieve a lot. As I main my war I obv find it more fun, but really once you use the metas for a while, rotations become..well, rotations. If you find one class boring you will likely find the other boring as well, as they are both remarkably similar combat-wise. Though sadly as it is now anything a war can do, a guard can usually do better. I’ll use an example of rotations, while I can stack slightly more vuln on my war I can also achieve this on my guard, in addition to applying blindness and partywide regen at the same time. So yeah, kinda sucks. Only thing we have to fall back on I guess are our big numbers that really don’t mean much i.e. a 47k hit on HB. Factoring in cast time and all though, that’s actually less DPS than a similarly-geared guard (from what I’ve been told at least).

To sum up I’ll list pros/cons of each.

guard:
+excellent group support
+higher DPS than wars (if correctly traited)
+more blocks/heals → slightly higher survivability
+great for pulls in dungeons
+more useful support-wise when stacking (consecrations, reflects, etc.)
-lower health pool → less forgiving in general
-not as much mobility
-less might/fury uptime
-terrible DPS support (except staff for might-stacking)

war:
+excellent DPS support
+reliable burst DPS (in a group of wars most of whom are noobs, expect high DPS)
+blocks/evades/invulns if correctly used → high survivability
+highest health pool of all classes →most forgiving, can take a couple huge hits and still remain standing
+more might/fury uptime
+excellent mobility
-less overall DPS
-less access to blocks/heals etc.
-terrible group support (except for warbanner)

Healing skill comparation

Healing signet when you’re taking periodic dmg that isn’t much of a big deal, like condis or when there is a long, drawn-out fight. Also use it when you can’t be bothered to use a heal skill like say you’re just focused on DPSing. Surge is great for 2 reasons, first it offers a huge burst heal which is great if you like to melee and frequently lose huge chunks of your HP, second it lets you insta-regain your adren if you wasted it on evis or something. I can tell you in most dungs I run I tend to use Surge most often, don’t have problems with it at all.

omg beat me to it..but ya u should try some of the easier dungs. AC P3 or COF1 which is the fastest path with decent group (10min). and speedruns.. you can join if u want who cares, long as you know the path and are pretty sure you wont screw it up. I’m pretty sure most of those who join for ‘speed run zerker only!!’ posts have sub-par gear anyway. Like those noobs who used to join for cof P1 speedruns a few months ago and ping their carrion set with dolyak runes. only thing is now u wont get insta-kicked even if u have terribad gear so..why not join groups like that. and don’t even say you have greens gear, why should you.. why should they care? nowadays its like an affront if they ask u to ping your gear. Besides, I’d take a greens PVT lv67 who knows the path and listens to directions over a garbage 10k AP full zerk kitten who charges into stuff with a YOLO attitude and gets the entire group wiped on the COE P1 console part because they have no idea what they’re doin and just won’t admit it, because they’re soo much more pro than you..

I was confused by your post are u asking which of ur 3 classes u should main or need help picking a new class? If it is the former the only advice I can offer you is to not get fooled or misled by huge numbers (aka hunred blades). It is so easy to think a warrior 42k HB is awesome but to forget to factor in csat time (3.5sec). In this case it would be 12k DPS. I think someone did the math and figured out warrior avg DPS is around 10k, guards are actually higher DPS (like 12k i think ??). So believe it or not, a full zerk guard will output more DPS than a full zerk war. just because big numbers are flashy don’t get sucked into this ‘omg warriors r OP’ mentality that most people do. As I have both a war and guard I can tell you that I use my war more because its my main, and obv i’m more comfortable with it. But my guard is even more useful in most cases with dungs. Insane group support and utilities, my war is still better at bursting and DPS but thats just how our class works.

your right, I’m partly a hypocrite as well :P as I still use axe/axe to stack BL when there are trash mobs that die pretty easily and I’m not concerned overmuch with DPS. Still though, for boss fights and when it actually matters.. axe/axe would be kinda useless.

- greatsword/axe&axe warrior

Please stop implying that axe/axe is a good weapon set for warrior.. its not. Last I checked axe was still considered one of the worst offhands for warriors. Also, GS and axe mainhand both have AoE cleaves, albeit at melee range. They are still perfect for dungeon content since you’ll be stacking most often.

- warrior I prefer defense over HP. It’s just low-maintenance.

I wonder if you’ve ever played a warrior or you’re just adding ‘warrior’ to everything on the list just to stress a point. Warriors have the highest base HP of all classes, though their defense is also on par. The statement u listed would be true mainly for guards, which are a solid alternative to warriors. They are more wanted in dungeon groups because of their versatility in that they can switch from DPS to providing boons (heals/reflects etc.) Warrior boons are also group-oriented but more to boost the group DPS (banners, shouts, etc.). In group settings and for short fights, warriors are best, otherwise guards. However solo-wise warriors will still out-DPS guards simply because of the nature of their skills.

In the end it is a question of what fits your play-style. Playing a guard requires more skill and effort if you want to succeed at it. You would have to play smart knowing when and where to drop reflects/heals/protection etc. so that your group can benefit best from it. Playing a warrior in dungeons in sadly not that difficult, but still very satisfying (some say boring). Most times you stack, spam bursts and stack vulns, plant banners and just DPS. Other times you can bunker down with your shield/invul skills if you need to. Its really less work with a warrior but both classes have roughly the same survivability, long as you know how to use them right.

like previous posters have suggested u can try soloing/duoing open-world champs. the higher lvl ones in Orr especially are the most challenging imo, though definitely doable. Once you hit lv80 u will unlock the highest lvl (Orr) areas, CS is probly the most unforgiving area in-game and where you’ll want to roam around. I have dealt with a few champs in this area and some of the tougher ones I’d rank in terms of difficulty are:
1. Risen Baron/Baroness
2. Risen Archmage
3. Risen Giant

You can see my Baron solo vid here to get an idea of what to expect. Though I do fail alot, for that reason u can probably do a better job as a guard. You will also, once you hit 80, be able to try dungeons/fractals for the first time (use the new LFG tool which is quite handy) and that if nothing else will solve the problem of lack of ‘challenging’ content.

Dungeons too difficult for lows and newbies!

Suggestion of ‘multi-paths’..lol. Just seems another way of wasting time.

Are you serious? Have you never played a real dungeon outside of GW2? There is a vast wealth of games out there with elaborate dungeons that have tons of branching paths, and they are a ton of fun. Demons Souls, Zelda, Skyrim, Fall Out, DnD Online, GW1.

Of that list I have played Skyrim and Fallout 3, they are immensely fun and probably rank among the best console experiences I’ve ever had (but then whose isn’t it?). Though trying to compare them to an MMORPG is like comparing apples to oranges, as they were single-player only.. so of course the world would be more vast and open, and the dungeons more interactive and dpendent on ur choices. You could spend a lot of time trudging around and exploring the dungs because u werent worried about wasting anyone elses time, like u are in the GW2 dungeon system. If there were multi-paths like the one in AC you suggested.. with the current speed-run group mentality if ur group decides to go one way and you feel like taking the other route, you can expect an insta-kick. Besides this would only make it more confusing.. pugs would generally take a few mins deciding which way to go, if they got split up they’d most certainly wipe, and if 1 path was easier they’d take it and rarely use the other one. like they currently do now. As people have said there r a few dungs now that feel like an open-world.. Arah for instance, and look how much of a nightmare that is for most groups. if anything the personal story has the multi-path choices you mean, but then again its single-player so this can be expected. In conclusion, multi-paths would be a bad idea. would only lead to more tears and rage-quitting. I’ll use my example again of pugs wasting my time by clearing the dogs at start of TA. and btw this is the only route available for exp..so yes multi-path = waste of time.

People still complaining about armor repairs..? Lol. I had a noob in a pug for CoF p1 ask our group for some coin cauise he couldnt spare enough to repair his gear (said he was broke). I told him that if he could wait like 5min he could get the silver he needed to repair from completion reward, but he wouldnt have none of it. Anyway..I feel the repair cost/mechanics is fine as it is.. but may be biased as I can afford most anything. Teaches u not to fail so much imo. I still fail tons, especially when trying to run around open-world PvE myself..but u dont see me complaining.

Completely missing the point. This isn’t about the cost of the armor repairs. It’s about the game punishing new players harshly, and then taking their lunch money too. It sucks the fun right out of the experience. The developers learned their lesson when they designed Fractals, by not making everything an insta-kill. That was a good design change.

I still feel GW2 is more lenient than other MMOs when it comes to repair/revival fees..from what I remember in WoW you had to waste a couple min by running back to your body before you could revive. Paying a couple silver isnt a bad tradeoff for an insta-revive.. besides with the how loot/reward system currently works, even if your poor as dirt you should still be able to afford to repair, though u might cry about it a little.

I agree as far as lowbie dungs go, AC isnt exactly a lv35 dungeon like its advertised to be. With a decent group of 80s who know what they’re doin, AC is usually a piece of cake. However for someone new and starting out in dungeons, AC exp isnt exactly the best experience. I agree there should be a dung specifically for lowbies, probably for those around lv15, maybe a swamp-esque cave setting in Caledon or something. It would make for a more interesting and less-stressful experience at the least.

Also I agree this thing about noticing cues and knowing when to stack/unstack is still an issue with most players. you wouldnt believe how many groups in CoE ive had where they stay stacked at the ice elementals even after seeing those ice wave things shoot out, and proceed to all get downed. or fighting the icebrood wolf champ, they all stay stacked on top of him and not move at all, and are all simultaneously downed when he pops his aoe. I feel the main reason for stacking is cause most pugs can’t be expected to do it otherwise.

@Agony I appreciate constructive criticism, usually don’t get much tbh :P

I never thought about binding those skills to more convenient keys, thats not a bad idea. Yah i realized I kinda did camp a/m for too long but I guess I was trying to make sure I had the final hit on the axe auto chain. I try not to interrupt axe auto too much also, after I get the final hit in (like 3x dmg) I try to reapply vuln with 2 and 4. I’ll admit that I messed up once or twice. GS 5 also failed this fight I had to be careful not to use Rush cause this was one of the rare instances where it bugged out (you can see this happen at like 2:15, part of which I edited out). I also tried out Insta Ground targeting like once, I wasn’t able to get the hang of it since I’m so used to just using it normally, with delay and all. I still use it this way for Alpha fights also, where timing is crucial. I dunno.. I guess I’m just used to it. I realize mouse clicking skills and using normal targeting is kidna noob, but ive been doin it this way for months :o

thnx for your suggestions, I will try to use them and see if they work out for me.

Roles and purposes of classes in a group

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

nagr.1593

The warrior deals much more damage than any other class. No tank is needed, everyone can dodge. Why pick anything else other than a warrior to deal damage?

This is not really true. When soloing, maybe true since we can self-stack might/fury so quickly and sustain it for a long time. But in group settings we just provide boons so that others can DPS better. This includes banners and of course our measly 3 stacks of might (thats really all it is). Guards and eles stack more might than us tbh. It is simply because we are able to stack more personal might/fury (SoR) that our dps is higher. In an ideal setting where all classes in the group had access to 25 might/fury, they’d all do roughly the same dmg. Heres a well-thought out post to support this claim (its from the dude I used to get my build advice from, so u can trust him):
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Arah-is-easy-Do-not-be-afraid-to-do-them/first#post3331966

A guardian brings the most support, reflects, and healing with the least amount of effort and gives the group every boon except one (swiftness) in the game reliably. Why use any other support other than a guardian?

The mesmer brings the one thing a guardian does not to the table. Swiftness through timewarp. This is the only reason you bring them, otherwise you put another guardian in that spot. Why bring anything else?

I think you meant partywise quickness, cause both wars/guards can provide partywide swiftness. And both wars/thieves are capable of self-induced quickness. But yes, well-timed TW+Feedback are two of the hallmarks of a good mesmer. Though it does suck when you see so many of them misuse it or dont use them at all, when it could be useful.

A thief lets us skip stuff. So we swap to one temporarily, but then swap back to our guardian/mez/wars for the rest of the dungeon.

Thieves have their uses. I used to hate hate fighting a thief one-on-one in WvW when I was starting out but thats another story. Specifically for CM, their SR is probably most useful in that dung, as well as Arah/TA where trash runs are prominent. There not bad for COF P1 either. When I used to farm it with a zerk group (mes/war/thief) we had a thief with a literally half-second gate time. She used to output more dmg than any of the 3 wars in our group.

So where does that leave all the other classes? Where are their purposes?

Eles are quite useful for there conjured weps, especially itheir FGS and ice bows for AC burrows. They are also useful for staff clearing blossom fields in TA and generally their DPS is top-notch from what I’ve heard. Their mobility is also on-par or succeeds that of warriors.

Trouble with the P3 Burrows event..? Why not learn the correct order:
http://bit.ly/AC-burrows

Its only half a DPS check, other half its like a test question on which your expected to answer with something you memorized. for me its been a few months before I had a PuG group that wiped on this part. As long as I remember to give partywide swiftness, run a solid power build and lead my groups in the correct order, I rarely report any problems. This is probably the easiest part of P3 imo I dunno how people encounter any trouble with this.

Suggestion of ‘multi-paths’..lol. Just seems another way of wasting time. Most pugs die and die horribly on the famed trash run of TA forward path (well.. rarely does everyone in the group make it without any deaths). Like those pugs that waste my time by actually clearing those dogs at the start of the dung (yes, I insta-leave those). Multi-paths would be..a disaster I feel. introduce more ways to fail = expect more tears shed/tantrums thrown

Also if you want a jumping puzzle design for dungeons..u shuld try fractals. just saying..though I would also like to see some sort of crossover to dungeon content if possible. It would make them more fun and yes..more diverse. I think the new TA Aether path if anything is something along the veins of what you mean. though the only downside to this I can see is that speed run groups would kick anyone that fails jumps etc. Also you could expect alot more mes portals going up :\

People still complaining about armor repairs..? Lol. I had a noob in a pug for CoF p1 ask our group for some coin cauise he couldnt spare enough to repair his gear (said he was broke).
