Because these are the forums, in short. Most of the positive people are probably in-game, too busy enjoying it to bother with the negativity and criticism the forums bring.
(Not that I’m condemning criticism of course. As long as it’s constructive, negative feedback can be a good thing for the Devs to take on board.)
Do we really need a new playable race?
I don’t think we need a new playable race. ArenaNet would need to do a completely new Personal Story arc, possibley tied into the old one, all for very little benefit since class skills would be the same as other races.
What I think would appease the ‘New Playable Race’ crowd as a compromise, would be the use of certain tonics to be usable with your weapons, and for them to last longer than they do.

just imagine how much easier it would be to farm nodes if we could change ip at will :o
We used to be able to do that via guesting before megaservers came into force. You can still do it with a bit of luck via guesting, but it’s kind of a gamble, since you could guest two servers and and up in the same /ip.
Are you in windowed mode by any chance? If so, click once on your desktop, then click back into the game, and it might work. This sometimes happens for Mac Beta anyway, and clicking out and back into game during windowed mode usually corrects it.
I’m sorry for your condition, but the symptoms sound more like the symptoms of motion sickness, than a fear of heights, in which, you shouldn’t really be playing 3-Dimensional games anyway.
I’d personally rather there be at least some distinctions between classes, and the most visual way of doing it is through their armour. That, and the fact I don’t want to play a game where people are running around wearing mixed armour like the example below.
At least with outfits, there’s a way for one class to look somewhat like another class, but let’s remember that outfits are single, set pieces.

To be honest, we shouldn’t really be relying on manual taxis to do content in the first place.
Salvage white-green crap, deposit the results. When the results start NOT depositing, go to a bank and sell a stack. White-green items almost NEVER sell for an amount worth the time to list them. You’re better off salvaging them and selling the materials.
I agree with this too. Even the higher level, light armour greens that sell for over 3 silver, you can pretty much make that with the fabrics that come from salvaging anyway.
The price of most items on the TP more or less reflect the price of their base parts.
The way I see it, it’s built into the mechanics of the game.
Anyway, it wouldn’t be very lucrative because there is an anti farming code that reduces loot if you repeatedly kill the same mob type I think.
How long after you start does it kick in though?
Obviously, this is being done on the scale it is for a reason. They’re getting something. Besides, something when they’d normally not be getting anything is an improvement over nothing, right? I mean, it’s not like they’re having to do anything, they’re off tending to something else.
And it’s not just about getting loot from mobs. It’s about getting loot from events as well since Map Bonus Rewards came into place. An Unidentified Dye here.. a Watchwork Sprocket there. A few T6 Mats. It all adds up what they might get whilst they’re asleep or doing their dishes. It’s still more loot for nothing than what a genuine player would get.
This, plus the fact they might upscale events for genuine players too, is the reason I think ArenaNet need to reconsider this position.
I also agree that the /em range is too wide. It never used to be as wide, but it’s probably been as wide as it is now for longer than when it wasn’t.
Luckily it doesn’t affect my RP as much, since my guild tends to RP in PvE areas more than cities, or sometimes in Salma District (when doing a Level 80 RP mission
). But when I do like to do relaxed RP in Divinity’s Reach, sometimes I do get overwhelmed by emotes from further away than necessary.

Whilst doing map completion today, I’ve run into numerous AFK farmers. A lot more that I have ever seen with this character, than I have seen with probably all the other 17 characters I’ve done map completion with put together, or near enough.
All in various maps, since the announcement made by Michael. One particular instance was worrying. In the picture below, there are five AFK farmers at [Stentor Cannonade] POI, Straits of Devastation. All AFK, during a heavy assault event by risen forces. Two of them I ended up struggling to revive before I realised they were AFK farmers, as I was switching between fighting and reviving.
There were four rangers, and one elementalist. All of which are upscaling the event in question, with just myself as the real player fighting against the risen. If this behaviour is going to be allowed, it will be detrimental especially towards events, as well as lower the value of the overall economy over a longer period of time, if more and more players start doing this.
The time and place this happened (if it’s important) was around 00:30 BST, megaserver /ip 206.127.146.105:0 on EU servers.
Sadly, I’ve seen this in other areas, too.. though that screenshot you’ve got captures the ambience of the gaming environment we’ve seen lately quite nicely. Well done, Penelope. Perhaps that’ll show those in charge that such “allowed behaviors” are a detriment to those attempting to actually play the game, and this allowed “function” of game mechanics should be reviewed.
I returned to [Stentor Cannonade] this morning at 11:00 BST, and four out of the five AFK farmers were still there, some of them in a slightly different position to pictured. There was also an additional two AFK farmers there.

I will ask about this one. Sorry we didn’t see it earlier.
Any Update?
It’s not on the Bug Tracker yet
To further expand on the OP’s question though, as I don’t know myself. Can P4F members use the forums?
I enjoy doing map completion too much to endorse this idea, sorry.
Cheers. You too! raises glass
Hello players of GW2 I quit the game 2 days after it went f2p for the following reasons:
1: F2P players, I can’t explain how much I hate f2p-ers. More gold spamers the “I can’t do that cuz am f2p” etc. And the most annoying part for me is the childishness…. The pay to play sets a somewhat a barrier for kids to play games sure their parents can pay for it and so on but it is never the less a barrier Ive played a lot of games f2p and p2p and i found the p2p community to be more mature.
2: The game became to grindy.. I have full asc set weps armor trinkets rings for 3 classes (no legendary wep) but after I read the patch notes for the up date that legy armor and trinkets would be added made me lose it.. I want to play the game for its challenge and competitiveness not who has better gear. (Again I know that legy doesn’t give a big advantage)
3: the economy is down. U know why
why am I considering coming back
1 I have some free time on my hands and am bored
and am picking between Diablo 3 and HoT
The favor is for Diablo 3 tho
Point 1: Gold Sellers are nothing to do with P4F players, at all. Gold sellers have been around since 2012, and in fact, I’ve been getting less not more gold sellers since this game became P4F. Your “hatred” for players you don’t know I suspect stems from the simple fact you think you’re above them just because you paid for something they get for free. I could be wrong though, but it’s a common occurrence among games or websites where there’s a shared paid & free community.
Point 2: The game is only a grind if you let it be. You don’t have to grind for anything to be honest, especially since you’ve already got full ascended gear. Most grind is about skins, and lets be honest. If they were easy to get, people would complain about most people having the same thing as everyone else. Anet can’t win either way.
Point 3: Is it?
On your reason coming back, but you’re not really you’re going to this Diablo game: why are you telling us then?
My Schedule if it’s done according to plan:
Monday
- Do some map completion
- Do some HoT content
Tuesday
- Gather Materials
- Guild RP
Wednesday
- Do more map completion
- Guild Missions and Quiz
Thursday
- More map completion (or HoT if in mood)
- Guild radio night.
Friday
- More map completion
- Guild RP alongside Radio night
Saturday
- Map Completion or HoT content
- General RP (rather than Guild RP) if I can
- Gather materials
Sunday
- Map completion
- Gather materials
- Guild RP alongside radio
The list on each day goes in order of time, from earliest in day to evenings.
Are you actually representing the guild in question? Need to open G and tick the box next to the Guild Name in the panel.
And I am still yet to meet somebody who supported Kiel…. after meeting hundreds of players…
I voted for Kiel.
For people who have zero clue how drops in this game works…
We do have a clue about how drops work, your argument has already been established. We’re talking about a U-Turn on ArenaNet policy here. And for whatever reason the Ranger/Necromancer AFK farmers are doing it, they are doing it for some benefit. Otherwise they wouldn’t be there!
My male Sylvari saying ‘You rarely see one of these’ when I receive some Bloodstone Dust…
That last bit, which I put in bold, is the difference between the two.
Going AFK for whatever reason and leaving the game running is one thing, but when you’re using a macro or bot program to make sure you don’t get kicked (and/or to heal/pick up loot/tag mobs etc.) then you’ve crossed the line into what Anet have always said is not allowed.
I always thought it was pretty clear myself, but I know this rule has caused confusion in the past. Taken all together it seems to me what everyone from Anet has said is this: If you start up just the game on it’s own, log into a character who is out in the world somewhere and then walk away that’s fine and whatever happens is allowed.
As soon as you add the use of another program, whether it’s a script or a macro you’ve set up on your keyboard or whatever to influence what happens while you’re away, whether it’s healing you ever so often, tagging mobs or simply moving around so you don’t get kicked by the AFK timer then you’ve crossed the line into what they have always said is not permitted behaviour – automating gameplay.
(And part of the reason the first one is allowed and the second is not is that they’ve put in functions, like diminishing returns and the AFK timer, to prevent players being able to take advantage of situations like this.)
“Going AFK for whatever reason” – the reason being that the player wants to leave the character there for hours on end, circumventing the auto-kick function (which must be there for at least some reason) so they can go to work, go to college, go to sleep, whatever. Then come back to the game and maybe, just maybe, they get a precursor drop.
Does this sound right to anyone? If so, perhaps ArenaNet might as well remove the auto-kick function altogether so players don’t even have to stick their heal skill on auto-attack.
There is now also a reddit post about this, and the word is spreading as if it really is ok – which if it really is ok then fair enough, but if it’s a mistake (everyone’s only human, so let’s not get out our pitchforks to the devs!) then it needs extinguishing quickly before more AFK Rangers and/or Necromancers come out of the woodwork!
https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/4ds2c1/afk_farming_with_minions_are_allowed_behavior/
Also, I take it if ranger AFK farming is allowed, that the necromancers in Dredgehaunt Cliffs using minions to farm for them whilst the players are asleep (like, 03:30 am UK time) that I have been reporting are allowed too?
That could be different. Time of day doesn’t really matter because they could be living in a different part of the world, and it could be the next day or earlier than it is where you are. But if they’re standing still for hours with the permanent minions out, then yeah, I’d call that odd behavior.
Of course a different timezone can be the case for anyone, but these particular ones are stood still for hours on end. In fact, earlier today I spotted two of the necromancers actually constantly using Staff Skill 1 repeatedly whilst stood still and were using the skill whether there were any enemies present or not!
This is allowed behavior; as it was designed to function that way.
This seems like an ArenaNet policy U-Turn to me, as I also remember what Just a flesh wound says:
This is new then. I’ve seen posts from people who were sanctioned for afk farming on a ranger and a Red post comment a long time ago, that afk farming wasn’t allowed.
Also, I take it if ranger AFK farming is allowed, that the necromancers in Dredgehaunt Cliffs using minions to farm for them whilst the players are asleep (like, 03:30 am UK time) that I have been reporting are allowed too?
Edit: Please re-consider this position!
I think the fastest way is to farm gold, buy gems and get the keys from the shop. Not very exciting but probably fastest.
If we’re going for speed, without considering cost, then surely the fastest way is to get one’s credit card out? :P
You can get them from Personal Story lines at level 10 once per week, or from the level 40 “Setting the Stage” and level 60 “Battle for Claw Island” as often as you’ve got characters.
There’s also certain PvP Reward Tracks you can get them from, such as the Jungle Rabbit one.
You also have about a 30% chance of getting one as a reward for 100% completing each PvE zone.
I’m addicted to this game, so I have to face facts. I’ll pay whatever it costs. /shrug.
Transmutation Charges.
The thing you can get 6 at a time for making a new character and walking around the 6 safe cities for a little while before deleting the character? The things the fall like rain if you SPvP? The stuff you get 3 of a month just for logging in?
No, really, I want to hear where you think you’re going with this argument. I mean, I know I get antsy when I have less than EIGHTY of them laying around.
Not arguing with anyone, just throwing it out there for people to talk about. But if you’d like me to expand I will.
For me, outfits are a nice little saver of transmutation charges. Means that I don’t have to spend time doing PvP reward tracks, or map six cities, or wait for when I get that bag of 3 charges. I can spend that time RPing or doing map completion, or doing HoT content.
I currently have 138 transmutation charges which I get for doing map completion, and I save them for levelling new characters. /shrug.
Transmutation Charges.
Let’s face it though, if people won more often than lost, the price of Ectoplasm would drop like a lead balloon, and people will have something new to be angry about.
I avoid any game content where players ask you to link your choice of gear. Linking gears can end in tears.
Unless it’s just to inquire for the looks, then that’s ok!
Have you got [The Undermarket] in the north west corner of the map, the cave where the Skritt took over? That’s the most common missed one in Lion’s Arch now.
I disagree with the OP too. If you buy a Dyson Vacuum Cleaner from a store at £200, and then six months later there’s a discount on that same model, you’re not entitled to a refund of the difference. And that’s real, not pretend money!!
Yeah if you’ve unlocked gliding on one character, who has been doing HoT quests for example, your newest character whom you’re levelling or mapping Central Tyria with from scratch can start gliding from level 2, as soon as they’re out of the first Personal Story instance.
Levelling in PvE the way ArenaNet intended is fun for me.
That’s offensive. A JOKE KILLED MY FATHER!
I’m sorry about that. Perhaps ArenaNet should have given a toggle to the joke first then. Or perhaps resetting your system’s clock to the day before April 1st might reset it, and bring back your father!
It’ll bring a load of people to the forums who can’t take a joke for one day.
Edit: Someone will write this on the forums tomorrow:
“You should have at least give us a toggle for this, so we players have A CHOICE "
(edited by penelopehannibal.8947)
3) Ideally it should be lore-appropriate.
As a Roleplayer, this is my Number 1 priority for naming my character. I can’t say all my characters are lore-friendly, since I was still learning the lore of the other races at the beginning of the game. For example, my first Sylvari is called Zinnia Thorn. But since learning the lore, I have more sylvari but with single-worded names.
Here’s a list of my characters’ names:
Asura
Memp
Mempfí
Spekka
Wintt
Charr
Hannibrawl
Glabe Hexblade
Misha Dreamseeker
Human
Tony Hannibal
Aria Hannibal
Penny Black
Rupert Bonny
Sarah Ceron
Slip Digby
Norn
Robyn Swift
Petre Stalborg
Livia Hjerte
Skritt
Skrittbags
Sylvari
Zinnia Thorn
Craenor
Griffae
Caerven
Cadwalger
Wynnach
I’d like to think I’ve done well for most of them being lore-relevant names. The names in italics are the ones I have used for RP at least once, though Aria Hannibal is my main RP character. Skrittbags is technically an Asura, but I never use him without a [Skritt Tonic] for RP
Yeah, as a guild leader I’m dead against 100% rep required myself. I mean, if you wish to enforce it for your guild, do so, but I prefer my guild mates to choose to rep my guild, not be forced to.
Also – I really love the irony of some of the guild adverts out there, such as saying:
“Are you looking for a guild ad that starts with a question? [Dis Gild] is a friendly, casual guild. Dungeons | Fractals | PvX | WvW | TS3 | PvP | Raids | 100% Rep. "
In my opinion, I don’t think you can label yourself as friendly or casual whilst enforcing 100% rep rule!
Sure, delete your thief if you want OP. Then go kicking yourself when a really great bug fix or balance fix that might one day happen.
In the meantime, I’m enjoying all five of my thieves, each for a different reason.
Did you do a company audit for Mike to come to this conclusion? Who said anything about the staff being rubbish at their job? I’m sure Mike didn’t at least!
Also, did you spot check the fire extinguishers to check they were still in date and the pins intact?
Piken Square!
When I was a new player to Guild Wars 1, I never anticipated at all that it was a GvG game. I just wanted a game where I can slash stuff with a sword in my spare time after work.
I’m beginning to wonder if there’d be as much of this ‘uproar’ had Mike O’Brien hadn’t announced the plans, and just went ahead with them anyway. At least they had the decency to tell us about it.
I want a Living Story, and for it to be longer than the previous one. Pretties can wait, we have enough pretties for now.
Have any of you run into this? In raids or dungeons, or maybe jumping puzzles etc.? Is there a way to filter it out? I don’t think you should let your 8 year old play.
How about we find a way to filter out kids like you instead?
