Staff isn’t even remotely weak. Trying to use that as proof that Anet destroys builds doesn’t really do much for you.

normal, non-vet mobs on staff feel like epic boss fights.

The only time I have to kite longer than that is greatsword mesmer soloing world champion. (and soloing the world champ on the mesmer is sometimes FASTER)

I’d say it demonstrates it perfectly.

If the devs have three brain cells, they will swap the regen on soothing disruption to something else.

it nerfs 30 water cantrip builds of the following:

- no more access to regen outside of water attunement
- 3 fewer condition removals.

it’s a small tweak that will make a world of difference where it matters without gutting elementalist group utility.

boon strip builds will destroy D/D ele.

They’re dependent on boons and regen.

strip their boons and keep stripping them, whittle them down and they die.

There are a few professions that CAN build for boon strips, but most of them dont because it generally requires specialization in ONLY boon strips.

Still, boon strips utterly destroy D/D ele. (or any bunker for that matter)

Ok seriously.... (Divinity's Reach)

It is a voluntary Code that you agree to when you hit “accept”.

Have to stop you there.

That’s fine for commodities or close-substitutes, it’s no good for legislated monopolies such as copyrighted software.

Add to that the obvious aysmmetry of power and the fact that one party does not have the opportunity to negotiate, and this is why courts have ruled by a 2/3 margin against companies who present click-wrap agreements.

They already have essentially. You’re about 10 years too late for that one.

It is most definitely a massive cop-out.

Elementalists only show their attunement in barely-visible “bracelets” on their wrists, and in the buff bar, and that’s it.

Hmm…how about having the option to remove the backpack visual, but adding a spot in our buff bar (equal to ele’s attunement symbol?) We only have 6 kits including med kit—how hard could it be to add 6 new symbols that would appear on our buff bar when we equip that kit?

I feel it’s unlikely that devs are going to create a ton of new visual content that can only be accessed by one of the eight professions, and the (probably) least-represented one at that.

“a ton of new visual content”?

it’s a buff icon!

Ursan, I can’t speak for anyone else, but I see no expected values in the mf, for there to be we would need to be able to find the average amount of rares required to get a dusk, and I have yet to see such calculations for obvious reasons.

Every single time you put 4 rares into that mf the chance of getting precursors is exactly the same.

It is very much like playing the lottery in rl, a very small minority EVER wins.

while I agree at some point that gambling is your only option, I do not belive it is a viable option, and most definatly not a favourable one.

I’m not defending this “slot machine” system in any way whatsoever, but if you take courses in probability you learn that your probability of losing multiple independent trials in a row diminishes as you add new trials, eventually diminishing to an effective zero. The number of trials at which this becomes infinitesimal places an upper bound on the limit of a precursor, but only if you assume a rational market that is NOT risk-averse. (that assumption is simply faulty)

I direct suspicious parties to this blog post about probability in MMOS. The thing about probability is that some people seem lucky and some people seem unlucky, that’s actually chance at work. It’s easy to be tempted to read more into it when it happens to you, but the math will predict that streaks will happen.

Unfortunately, this is fundamentally wrong on many levels from a customer service point of view.

It’s quite easy to build floors and ceilings into the amount of “luck” someone gets, because month-long win streaks are game-breaking, and month-long loss streaks make people want to tell their friends to get other titles.

I’m not weighing in on this guy’s ban (For the record OP, as the leasee of my property, I have the right to call the cops to have you removed from my property for merely standing there – and so does ANET), but this is catching my eye…

And as a forum member said above, the “warning” to which other players have expressed an entitlement is already present: in the User Agreement and the Rules of Conduct, which every player views and accepts before playing the game. At the point they breach either of those things, then the outcome is forewarned in the Conduct Breaches and Outcomes document. All found here.

Is this the reason numerous state and federal courts have ruled click-wrap agreements invalid? Because people actually read these e-tomes?

That is absolutely hilarious to me.

Tune this weapon to be full condie — minimal power based damage.

Rifle:
30 degree cone spread on everything but auto attack to match pretty much every other ranged weapon for crowd management.

Hammer:
This weapon feels very slow. Speed it up and add some damage and cripple (even if you have to remove some stun/kd. People have stun-break and stability out the wazoo already, it’s not as if the cc “matters” when you can take a nap while it swings.

If you learn to play your D/D elementalist properly, and apply the same playstyle to your warrior, you will notice just HOW superior warrior is.

Axe/mace + (hammer or greatsword) warrior is a D/D ele with 50% more damage, 100% more hp, and better control.

Because you arnt supposed to play you D/D ele like you play your warrior. They are on 2 different levels.

Not true at all.. If you look at the warrior bunker traits and abilities, warriors depend on moving in for large bursts, then getting out and kiting during a regeneration phase to rinse and repeat.

It’s the exact same style as D/D ele.

ANet actually replied on this one months ago. I can’t find its link but I’m pretty sure they said it’d be impossible because it will be unfair to enemy players in sPvP or WvW if they don’t see what kind of kit we are using. Seeing what kits engineers are using can help them make strategies and right decisions when fighting against us.

In a sense, they have a point but if you think of it in a more general way, most people don’t even care about our kits. They’re like “Oh, an engineer! FOOOOOOOOD!”

But yes, I’d like to have the option of hiding our backpacks too if possible.

If that’s true, I think that is a cop out answer. It’s no different than any other class changing weapons or something. Engineer kits also change the weapon the character is holding. Having the backpack thing gone would not be anything different from any other profession.

It is most definitely a massive cop-out.

I’d like to see some much needed buffs to our actual weapon sets, and i’d like to see elixir based builds able to stack boons like water based eles (we should be able to hover at 10 might, and when putting out effort stack it to 25 – WITHOUT using a kit – if we were to go p/p elixir)

The biggest issue I have with this:

1 -it’s per account rather than per character.
Anyone who has more than one toon is given a big fat middle-finger by ANet.

2 – you have no real choice in what shows up on your dailies or monthlies. Don’t like them, tough.

3 – you have no way to do multiples on one toon or one account if you happen to have the time. At least in the other titles ANet scoffs at, you can do as many dailies as you want.

This is nothing but artificial kitten-blocking.

People have to realize that playing support in GW2 means doing both healing/buffing AND damage at the same time. There is no reason to do only one thing when you can do them both.

say that to the 20 pointer talent restorative mantras.

The heal happens on charge, not on release, which means you ONLY heal if you choose that.

Then ANET wonders why nobody does mantra healing builds.

Reading through this thread, I’ve seen very little actual evidence or logical argument supporting claims either for or against the occurrence of such a change (Though personally, I have no reason to believe ArenaNet would have reason to lie on the subject). Please familiarize yourselves with principles of logic and objective experimentation before making such claims. As a starting point, I suggest looking at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anecdotal_evidence and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confirmation_Bias.

Sample size: easily 500+ encounters.
Subjects: 50 guild members.
Time Period: 2.5 months

10-15 of these guildies (the same ones) ALWAYS received better loot wherever they went.
The rest ALWAYS received, at best, salvage trash.

If it were truly random chance, those 10-15 would have crap loot more than 3/4 of the time, they didn’t.
If it were truly random chance, the remainder would have good loot at least some of the time, they didn’t.

If the chance of dropping were truly random, rather than just “random in aggregate”, there would not be a vast, stickied thread of people who are vowing not to spend one dime in the gem shop until they fix this.

I’m sorry, but that is still anecdotal, and makes several fallacious assumptions. For one, you fail to provide any numeric support for your claims regarding loot. I realize this may not be possible in retrospect, but it does jeopardize the validity of the proposed evidence. I find the last point to be especially fallacious, as popular opinion does not define objective truth in any way. I rather doubt you spent any significant length of time reading the pages I linked. Additionally see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Correlation_does_not_imply_causation for further reasons for the assertions’ invalidity.

“Correlation Does Not Imply Causation”?

Are you serious?

Loot is “caused” by an algorithm and ONLY an algorithm.

If there’s a statistically significant pattern, such as 1% drop rates occurring EVERY loot (about 25% drop rate assuming 4 items per chest) for 500 loots in a row for a significant percentage of the populace, or a 1% drop NOT occurring at least once for every 200 items (this accounts for a VERY large standard deviation) looted in a sample of 2000, then yes, THE LOOT ALGORITHM is the cause.

I was responding specifically with that link to:

If the chance of dropping were truly random, rather than just “random in aggregate”, there would not be a vast, stickied thread of people who are vowing not to spend one dime in the gem shop until they fix this.

You seem to suggest that a large number of people perceiving a change is proof of such a change having occurred. In the absence of data to back this up, this is not the case. In response to the remainder post, statistically significant data is all well and good (although it would still only suggest a causation, scientifically, not prove one), but I still have yet to see such data. You may provide numbers, but I see no source for those numbers, and “If” seems to be the operative word. Perceived drop rates mean little or nothing. Without seeing specific data derived from properly controlled conditions, there is little or nothing that can be assumed.

There are threads about bad loot, about 8 of them per day in this forum, not counting the massive stickied one, and the one that was even more massive and not stickied.

There’s the numerical evidence, the drop rates over long periods of time for the two halves of this great divide which defy all statistical probability, the massive wealth gaps that have resulted from this.

If this evidence were converted to mass it would coalesce into a black hole and collapse the universe, but of course you will not believe it until you cross the event horizon and are turned into an atom-wide strand of spaghetti.

I suppose you think the economy is doing just fine because the quantifiable aspects, such as the dow and housing, are just peachy-keen too.

Perception Is Reality in customer service. Straight-up statistics is cold comfort to people who receive 1/100th what most people receive on a consistent basis for months.

OMG. Why didn’t I start with that class. I always played ranged mage type in mmos. When I started GW2 I picked Elemetalist because it sounded like a mage class. Boy was I wrong. However I stuck with it and learned to make it work. Sure my Ele is a beast , I tank 4 ppl all the time in WvW and pvp. But it just doesn’t feel right, I never felt like a mage .

After leveling my Mesmer to 80 I am totally in love. The mesmer is a ranged caster. The class just feels right. On top of that you can have more than 1 viable build “GASP” . So to my fellow mage type . Try a mesmer and don’t look back :P

I recently picked up my mesmer and was shocked at what a month of playing D/D did for my mesmer play.

Mesmers have so many long periods of invulnerability, evasions, etc.

I do a lot more damage in random rares on my mesmer than I did on my ele in exotics because I can ignore toughness and vitality, and still outlast anyone in a dungeon.

Least friendly MMO out there?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

plasmacutter.2709

There is a very big difference between unfriendly and least friendly.

WoW is unfriendly, it’s not helpful in any way shape or form. Tera has an even worse player base. Yes it’s in fact worse then wow.

GW2 is the least friendly. There really isn’t anything friendly about it. People don’t rez you because they want to, they’re trained from the begining to rez anything around them that is rezable. They don’t help you with mobs because they want to, they still get loot. They’re helping because most people are lazy and want easy xp/loot chances.

They don’t really help much at all. Very boring to me, being a fairly more social person in MMO’s.

That seems like a lot of effort made to attribute peoples actions to the worst of many possible motivations. I personally have gone well off my normal path with the express purpose of helping people in over their heads or resurrecting the defeated. Often times people will waypoint as I reach about 900 distance, which is very frustrating.

What?
MMO don’t magically turn bad people into good ones and vice versa, people is the same.
A bad person in GW2 will be a bad person in EVE and in Darkfall too.

Unless some games reward people for faking friendly behaviors, in that case yes.
But I’d take anyone of the kids in WvW that yell garbage over a cheesy person trying to be cool to me to get something.

Hey! I’m not “bad” i’m just naturally quiet.

If asked something, I give as specific and concise an answer as possible, I value other peoples’ time too much to do otherwise.

That said, the fundamentals of what you just stated are correct.

The internet is full of anti-social people, it’s the nature of anonymized communication. It frees the unscrupulous among us to do things they would never do in anyone’s actual presence because they would be subject to ostracism and likely substantive retribution.

I completely agree with this, AoE is a crutch that requires no skill.
AoE-ing a door just aiming at the floor requires no skill. They don’t have to decide who to targer and how to CC them to keep them from coming it. Attacking the door already does that.
Improve staff eles 1 vs 1 and necro staffs 1 vs 1 so they will be on par with others as well to make up for it.

Zerging a door in large numbers requires no skill.

AOE does severe damage to people acting exactly like a herd of lemmings, and who can’t be bothered to use dodge roll when they see the GIGANTIC RED CIRCLE on the ground..

So we’ve all heard about stealth patches , broken dr and rng , and yada yada yada things anet quickly dismissed , but playing the game says othwerwise.
But I was chatting with a buddy and he said something interesting. Maybe those that are blessed by the rng , that 1% of players, are not random. Is it possible to gain positive rng because you , let’s say , payed extra ? Deluxe edition , heavy gem shopper etc etc? This is a a quite frightening thought but more so because of it is actually possible .
Any thoughts ?
I whole-heartedly hope I’m wrong

Actually, I don’t see a better rate and I purchase gems. (well, I did, before the drop rates TANKED for me irreversibly, and dragons started consistently giving me whites and those rabid upgrade items)

I DO notice the drop rates are good consistently, for a consistent group of the same people, while they’re consistently bad for the same people.

RNG is “sticky”, and there seems to be no in-built counter-balance for long, bad streaks.

And all of those things that you think are impacting your drops are statistical noise; you’re seeing patterns where there are none.

Most other software houses, be they video games or otherwise, take action to prevent consistent good or bad streaks. Users don’t like it when they hit “random” on their playlist and somehow get a bunch of tracks by the same artist back to back.

No changes were made to loot in fractals what so ever, they will be covered in release notes if changes of that nature are made.

This is the same thing that was said of world loot after the 11/15 patch but I’ve received as many rares in the months since 11/15 as i’ve seen in the one week preceeding 11/15.

It seems like the “RNG” is “stuck”, because there are half the populace Consistently receiving amazing loot (2-3 ectos per dynamic event,5-6 per dungeon) while the remainder Consistently receive stacks of porous bones and blues.

Many others agree (thus the two threads with massive views and replies on this issue)

I’m telling you there’s a bug, and with this patch, it’s spread to fractals, so now the people who cloister themselves there are experiencing what the rest of us have been experiencing.

Maybe now it will get some attention?

Since Anet prefers balancing around PvP than PvE, and since warriors are lagging behind other classes in PvP, I’m gonna say all your choices are wrong. Anet will buff warriors.

Nice try at staging only anti-warrior answers though, we all love loaded questions, especially when all of the given choices are wrong.

In pve warriors are beyond over the top.

I once was out on my warrior wondering why the mobs I was slaughtering in 4’s and 5’s were hitting so freaking hard… I realized I was facing mobs 25% higher in level than me.

On ANY other profession this would be suicide, on a warrior it’s “farming”.

Anyone who plays D/D ele can pick up a warrior and be more tanky and do more burst than their D/D ele. I predict after ANet nerfs d/d eles, that they will all go to warrior and make the normal warrior community look like a parking lot full of tool sheds.

THAT is when warriors will be nerfed.

I’ve been working with this P/P build and am looking to add more might stacking to it while sacrificing a minimum in survival/support skills and little dirty tricks.

I’m hoping to get something that would be a more offensive conditions version of D/D ele in my dungeon crawling, and be similarly annoying to opponents in wvw.

current gear: rabid
current sigils: earth and corruption

Thoughts: I could swap out one elixir for a kit and the earth sigil for battle, but what should I use? or perhaps this is the wrong way to go? I’d prefer my kits remain situational rather than “always on”, but still would like to get my might stacks over a median of 5. (preferred would be a median of 10-13)

Scaling Change Gone Too Far?

The day before the patch I was playing on a lowbie warrior in metrica.

A warrior in AC gear came flying into my zone 3-shotting STRUCTURES.

From then on I got, at best, silver in all events until the guy left.

Yes, this was a necessary change.

I’ve heard of a few strange things happening at lower levels that might need a look, but it was definitely necessary.

DR bug.

wvw was full all night on sea of sorrows.

There’s definitely a bug with the loot. People are still playing the game, though, so much so that my guildies couldn’t get into WVW all night tonight.

Let me know when these “other” bunkers have a base HP of 10k and cloth armor.

And btw, you’re a flat-out liar. Guardian bunkers depend as much on boon duration as the eles, and they get swiftness too.

There’s a reason we have all this other stuff. A good solid burst will swat us like flies!

Mean while, in WvW a d/d ele tanks 15 people while killing 3 and gets away!. No need for nerfs. The ele is obviously working as intended. Moving on.

Guardians get more HP, armor, and CC than bunker eles , They don’t move as fast overall, but have more leaps pulls wards and stuns than bunker eles.

They tank more people and make entire groups more “bunker-ey” than bunker eles do.

meanwhile, they can spec for pure DPS and actually NOT die in 1.5 seconds like glass cannon eles do.

Clearly the one spec eles have left, that can be shut down by a couple immobs, boon strips, or focused ranged from 2 players is the one that’s in need of nerf.

I smell a very bad backstab thief in this one, who is simply peeved he doesn’t have a free kill from every profession.

Armor/Weapon...do you go for prestige or..

Guys the D/D bunker ele is next on the chopping block for nerfs. Devs have all but said it in the past twitch.tv interview. Bunker ele is on the “watch” list.

The problem has been stated here in this thread. Bunker builds usually lack in their ability to bring the fight to the target. In other words, their mobility is low.

The ele has WAY too much mobility for his survivability in bunker form. So their either going to have to tone down his survivability or tone down his mobility. One or the other, take your pick, something has to change.

Personally, I think his problems lie in the ability to self-combo his own fields. Most classes have a ton of starters and not a lot of finishers, or vice versa, but never both. Eles have nearly every type of AoE field starter in the game and the ability to blast finish multiple times (which is basically the most powerful finisher). This allows him to put up multiple boons for extremely long periods of time. No other class can really do this, nor should they be able to.

I think the main question here is: should we just refrain from nerfing the ele and first remove the ability of players to self-combo?

Let me know when these “other” bunkers have a base HP of 10k and cloth armor.

Would You Still Play if There was NO Loot?

Yes

So long as they designed the game around not having looted items, I’d be perfectly happy with that.

That said, I have the DR bug right now, AND their game is NOT designed around a zero loot scenario, so until they do, I want to have loot parity with other players again.

Graphics change? hmmmm...

Are MMO Gamers Too Heavily Rewarded?

I remember camping spots for days in Everquest, sometimes only to walk away with nothing.

You’ve ruined your own lands, you’ll not ruin mine!

Camping in Everquest was an enjoyable experience. You would kill a creature and have tine in between respawns to do other things. You could socialize with your guild or group, you could grab a drink, you could tab down and check the net. The whole experience was leisurely and relaxing.

Todays modern MMOs require you to be an energy drink consuming crack fiend. You have to hit the right combination of 17 buttons for 45 minutes straight or you fail and have to start over. The whole experience is awful and I firmly believe that most players that do dungeons do not enjoy them and only do them for the perspective loot. Which is why rewards have become so important because these games can no longer sell players on an enjoyable experience.

I have the DR bug.

I ran COE last night all 3 paths and enjoyed it immensely.

I got 2 blues from each chest and a stack of porous bones and whites from a couple of mobs.

Ectos, how many do you get a week?

My luck seems to be higher than other peoples. When i am playing GW2 for more then the daily i can get 20-30 ectoes a week.

That is lucky.

This question needs to be asked in two parts:

1 – Do you have the “Dr Bug”

2 – What is your ecto rate.

I have the DR bug. I see perhaps 5 a week if i’m lucky, most from the mystic forge.

DR bug.

My whole point is there is no such thing as DR bug. For some reason that I can only speculate on, ANET stealth nerfed loot drops and I say stealth because it was not in the patch notes but its obviously and clearly happening to EVERYONE except those few who are getting the lucky side of RNG.

But there is a DR bug (or perhaps a “consistent RNG bug”), becuase the people who get the lucky side of RNG have been, according to my observations, getting the lucky side of RNG CONSISTENLTY since the 11/15 patch

You (and some of your friends, the same ones) get porous bones by the stack and a couple of blues.

They (and some of their friends, the same ones) get an exotic, 4 lodestones, and 4 ectos worth of rares in the same time.

And no matter how many times you run with them, it’s always the same for each account – the “have lucks” get every loot amazing every time for months, the “have none” have stopped waypointing to dragons because it’s too expensive.

This is statistically impossible, which means there’s a bug.
