I still feel like I’m just getting wrecked, and since you have clones and phantasms to be taking the hits for you, why melee at all?

Exactly!! The illusions are disposable. Let them take the hits.

I leveled my mesmer using Staff/GS also. Since, I have experimented with the other weapons. But I really like the staff. Any clones I make while using the staff cause condition damage, and that really adds up. Also it is much easier to survive using staff.

For a while, I had been using sword-pistol as my second weapon set, but I just think that the mesmer is far too fragile for melee. Yesterday, I went back to using GS as my second weapon. I still mostly use the staff, but I have the GS when I need power, or when all my illusion making skills are on cooldown, and I will switch to GS to get out those illusions.

I tried it out in Verdant Brinks, including a couple of events, and it seemed to work pretty darn well. So for now, I am sticking with Staff/GS.

Are raids good or bad for MMOs

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: redcomyn.4651

redcomyn.4651

The Anet programmers are gamers, hardcore gamers. Of course, they are biased toward the viewpoints of the hardcore gamer customers. That explains what is going on.

On the face of it, I have no problem with raids. I have no interest in them and no interest in crafting legendaries. But what some have already said earlier, it is the resources being used to create them that is the problem.

But there is no point in arguing this. The financial results will win in the end, no matter what. That is; reality always wins, no matter what your opinion is.

If you take away the damage in pvp, you are also taking away the damage in pve, which would make it totally useless, and nobody would use reaper in pve anymore.

I would. Decimate Defenses is my favorite trait from the whole reaper traitline. Deathly Chill is just some extra damage, but doesn’t come close to what I do with constant crits.
Valkyrie Armor, berserker/valkyrie trinkets, and berserker weapons (cuz I don’t need as much precision thanks to that trait, and I hit almost 100% crit real fast).

Maybe I need to check that one out, then.

Mastery points, ugh [Merged]

Many of the mastery points require going through jumping puzzles. I hate jumping puzzles, also not very good at them. Some of the points I can’t get to no matter how many times I try. The same with hero points. A couple of HP’s in Verdant Brink are suppose to be soloable, but I can’t get to them, even though I saw others succeed. I fail every single time. I really, really hate jumping puzzles.

What's the worry with buffing greatsword?

in Necromancer

Posted by: redcomyn.4651

redcomyn.4651

You guys aren’t making much sense. The greatsword needs high damage because it is very slow. Right now, it seems that the dps is too low, because the damage isn’t high enough to account for the slow swings.

The whole point of the reaper is to be a frontline meleer.

Then again, I only have the first 2 specialization skills, and not real likely to ever to be able to fully fill it out. Too many of the HP spots aren’t soloable.

How to Play STAFF?

in Mesmer

redcomyn.4651

I rather enjoy using the staff, myself. I think it is fun. I have played only a little of HoT so far, I don’t particular like it, but I survive much better using the staff than using any other weapons. I did use sword/pistol as my second weapon set, but I was usually using the staff. I am also using 2 illusion type utilities. My goal is to keep 3 illusions out as close to 100% of the time as possible. While using staff, the illusions are also using staff and they do cause good condi damage, even if only lousy direct damage.

Perhaps you can do it in only 2 hours, but I bet you already knew where everything was. I haven’t a clue where anything is. I haven’t done much, yet, but I still have no idea where any of the HP’s are. At least the first time, it will take a considerable amount of time to get them. How to get from point A to point B is very confusing, assuming you even know where point B is.

Do you regret pre-purchasing HoT?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Yes! I hate jumping, I hate the lack soloability for at least some of the masteries, I hate that I have to go through much, if not most of the HoT content before getting the new trait lines. I played the first weekend and haven’t been back since.

As far as I can see, there is no longer any future in this game for me. I will be keeping my eye on this hoping that things will change, but I highly doubt that it will. For the foreseeable future, I am done with this game. If a year from now I still haven’t gotten back into the game, I will just delete my characters and delete the game. Just another game stolen by the elitests. Bitter much? Maybe a little.

I think it is time for me to take an extended break from this game. Maybe things will get better sometime in the future.

There aren’t enough of them to get 400 points. In fact, I saw on the wiki that there is only 213 of them. Nearly all of those were used to get the regular traits. That would mean that you would have to get 300 to 400 hero points in the Maguuma Jungle. In other words, you would just about have to complete it before opening any elite specializations. They made a big deal about the elite specializations, and I won’t be able to get any of them for months, or longer considering I have a life outside of this game.

Are condition mesmers no longer viable?

in Mesmer

redcomyn.4651

Whether changing the rules makes people angry or not depends on why it is done, I think. If it is done merely for the mythical balance, then many people will be unhappy. If it is done occasionally for the sake of keeping things fresh and exciting, I think most people would see it as a generally positive thing. Unfortunately, the overwhelming majority of times they make changes, is for the first reason.

I just play pve. I see all these balance changes done for pvp, and it almost always has a weakening effect in pve. Maybe not by much, but they accumulate over time. The difference between the mesmer today and the mesmer of 3 years ago is immense. Today’s mesmer would just be a small speed bump for the mesmer of 3 years ago. As a pve player, this is frustrating for me.

Trying to balance pvp between the classes is a losing game. No one will ever be happy about the balance, no matter how hard or how often Anet tries. So why bother? Constantly changing the rules just makes everybody angry.

Are condition mesmers no longer viable?

in Mesmer

One problem with that scenario. Mesmers asking for a “reasonable” nerf has never stopped the oblivion nerfs. About a month after the Anet nerf, which the mesmers rightfully complain about, these same mesmers will go right back to asking for more nerfs. It is a constant refrain no matter how badly Anet hit the mesmer.

I will grant the mesmer nerf beggars are all pvp type people. Unfortunately, it negatively impacts the pve mesmer. In pve, the mesmer is substandard compared to the other classes due to pvp balancing. As bad as the ranger is, as low damaged as the necromancer is, the mesmer is worse.

Mercurias, if you or anyone else comes up with a build that can dish out sufficient damage as a druid, I will most likely at least try it out.

Something else to keep in mind is that the druid will not be wanted by anyone in the core game or open world pve. From what I am hearing, it’s only use is in raids. If this turns out to be correct, then druid use will be greatly limited.

Well, we will see how it goes. Let us hope it is better than that.

I’m actually a roleplayer (go ahead, your mockery only nourishes my black heart), and the Druid spec is something that works so perfectly with my ranger character that I’m a little curious if the devs have been watching me RP.

Gameplay-wise, I always was a little surprised how much simplicity there is to Ranger. It’s a very easy class to pick up and learn, and much of the tricky stuff you can do later revolves around controlling the pet (e.g. making your bear kite enemies while you nuke them with longbow). Adding healing and a little control to the mix is a great way to make Ranger stand out.

I’m especially looking forward to the staff. You actually hold the thing like you hit someone with it rather than simply leaning on the thing while waving your hand, and the abilities look useful and flavorful. Glyphs don’t necessarily impress me as a full-bar proposition, but that’s all fine given that most of them have short recharge and have some interesting synergies. I cant wait to use glyph of tides with traps and combo fields.

There is nothing wrong with being a roleplayer. If you like roleplaying a healer, great. You will like playing a druid. But I suspect that after playing it awhile, and you find out just how badly you are rewarded for it and how little XP you receive for it (unless Anet changes it), I think you will start to get frustrated.

Perhaps Anet is holding back a reward and XP change as a surprise for us since they haven’t said anything about it, yet. I’m not holding my breath, though.

Toxicity in game modes

Why havnt you bought HoT yet?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: redcomyn.4651

redcomyn.4651

My problem is that they still won’t separate pvp balancing from pve balancing. They keep balancing for pvp which is geared for relatively small health enemies (other players). In pve, the enemies have massive amounts of health. They are not the same. Anet won’t change that stance, so I am iffy whether I will buy HoT or not.

Also, only 4 areas? And I am hearing that soloers will have it pretty rough in this because the npc difficulty is way up. Combining that with the constant nerfing of our characters in pve because of pvp balancing, I am seriously questioning whether I want it.

What's Wrong With Being A Healer?

in Ranger

Posted by: redcomyn.4651

redcomyn.4651

If you are going to be a good healer, you will need to wear armor and weapons that support that, then your dps/condi will be mediocre. If you want to dps/condi, you will need to wear armor and weapons for that, and then your healing will be mediocre. You could mix the armor and weapon types, but then you will be somewhat mediocre in both.

It doesn’t look particularly promising to me, still we need to see how it actually plays out in game before getting overly upset about this. It may turn out a lot better than it would seem to. I definitely intend to at least try it out and make it work for me. It would be silly not to try.

in Ranger

Posted by: redcomyn.4651

redcomyn.4651

Many people here have said that being a healer is good, and you give reasons. But what not a single one of you have answered is the lack of credit you get in big events. That credit gets silver or gold achievement for that event and it effects how much loot you get. You don’t get credit for healing, and we have no indication that that is going to change. Why don’t you guys try to justify being a healer given that situation? Who the heck will continue being a healer when they don’t get anything out of it?

What's Wrong With Being A Healer?

in Ranger

Posted by: redcomyn.4651

redcomyn.4651

The biggest problem with being just a healer is that you don’t get any credit. You can heal those around you for an entire fight but just get the bronze credit because you caused little damage. Perhaps Anet will change that in HoT, although we haven’t heard anything to indicate that. But if they do, then healer may be worth while for some people, however I have absolutely no desire to be a healer. That is just boring.

Conditions Everywhere

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: redcomyn.4651

redcomyn.4651

The OP is right, conditions are ott at the moment rivalling direct damage, which I don’t think should be the case for something that is a passive application with a supposed attritional effect. This is the worse case of passive play in the game atm and encourages easy and lazy gameplay. Cover the entire ground in oversized aoes condition fields (wells, traps etc.) and just walk away. Anet have no clue how to balance this game at all. All the applications of multiple conditions with one skill, especially transfer conditions and convert boons to conditions need to be looked at. To me this a ridiculous situation which Anet just makes worse with each balance pass.

Condi damage is not passive. It is every bit as active as direct damage. All damage is done by hitting the other guy with the damage being spread over time instead of immediate. You obviously have a bias against condi damage.

1) We saw between 2 and 6% of the expansion map and we can already said that you can do kitten in solo in the expansion?

2) It’s a MMO. The whole point of that type of game is to play with other people. There is a WHOLE other type of game if you like GW2 but only want to play solo. It’s a single player RPG and most of those have better story and gameplay than GW2.

That is tiresome nonsense. MMO is playing with others around, it doesn’t mean grouping with them. Just because you like doing it doesn’t mean everybody does.

If I can’t play in HoT solo, I will be quitting this game. I refuse to be forced to group with others, having to hang around waiting for a group to form, etc.

As a matter of fact, this thread has convinced me to hold off, entirely, on buying HoT until I find out how soloable it is.
