The biggest problem I see with AI controled entities is that they completely cludge up the battlefield. This game as it is has a lot of problems with skill animations, Asuras that are just way too small as it is … and when you have a MM necro, spirit ranger and mesmer in opposing team all in the mid point fighting against you, you just ask yourself “what the kitten is this kitten?”

It’s as simple as that… I would have to take a screenshot and stare at it for 10 seconds just to find the kittening player I wanted to target… Does that not seem wrong?

So this game pretty much boils down to complete chaos and mindless AoE spam right now… And if some people don’t find that bothering, that’s fine, I’m happy for them. But this IS what turns great many players away from GW2 sPvP.

I totally agree here. If they want the spvp to expand they have to put in some automated tournaments such as what we have in GW1. And some nice rewards at least for monthly tournaments…

It’s what people want, it’s what the game needs, there’s absolutely no reason not to have it. When there’s daily and monthly tournaments with nice rewards, you’ll see people absolutely rushing into spvp…

Funny thing about it tho is that I still think Warrior is pretty useless in tpvp. It’s my main class, but if I really want to feel useful for my team, a Warrior doesn’t even come close to what an Engi can do for his team. So I keep rolling engi… If I care about winning.

Warrior doesn’t bring much to the table for his team imo. At least not in SoloQ. That may not be the case for some pre-made teams that know exactly why they are bringing Warrior… But then again Team Blacklisted might still be the only strong team running one…

Also what I would like to add to OPs CC in GW1.

In GW1 if you used a knock-down skill on a knock-downed foe you wasted your skill. No such punishment for spam here. You can just spam your kitten and it will stack or take on the effect of the last used CC. So yeah, you don’t need the brain here in this pvp. Just faceroll over your CC skills and you’re good to go.

Conditions didn’t stack in duration or intensity either. You had to spread poison/bleeding over all enemy team for the maximum effect. Here? Who the kitten cares about changing targets! Focus someone and stack the kitten out of him!!! 25 bleeding, 25 confusion, 25 vulnerbility and 6 seconds of continuous Fear chain YEAH!

Seriously there’s just way too much of mindless spam in this game right now. And AI should also be removed from arenas.

But it won’t happen.

Getting matched up against guys i totally don’t want, like 5-6 times in a ROW.

Yesterday i got a guy in my team like 10 times (at least).

Which actually means that the system has some consistence, that’s the good news. The bad news is, that it obviously doesn’t have enough people to work with, that’s why you keep getting matched-up with the same people…

I guess we have to stay patient and hope for the best. I still like playing soloque… I did not like queing up solo in the old system however, so to me personally, this is a step forward.

nr.1 and nr.85 not being in the same tier is very relative to the pool of players playing the game. If the ladder has 10 000 people on it, I would say that #1 and #85 are in pretty much in the same tier.

Further on, you’re talking like there is always all the 4000 people playing the game at any given moment, so the matchmaking system has all of them at it’s disposal to compose best possible balanced matches. Of course that’s not the case…

One can’t claim that the system is ignoring the ranking for the sake of matchmaking, maybe the matchmaking is just making the best of the given situation. The pool of players isn’t always very rich.

I play soloque in the late evenings and my match-ups are very decent usually.

I don’t care about progression and leveling in pvp, I play pvp because it’s fun.

Your leveling curve for “other MMOs” is also completely wrong. You made it an exponential function, which means that the rate is increasing, which is not common experience. Instead you should use a logarithmic function – ln(x). In my experience the rate decreases over time in all MMOs. Just as it does in GW2.

I find it quite astonishing how unacceptable the idea that someone might be playing better than YOU is for some people. It really hurts them. A lot.

How many more soloque QQ threads are children going to make on this forum? Some of them are even so mad, they can’t climb that ladder, they just want to delete the ladder altogether!! Seems like that in case they don’t like the ladder, the simple solution of ignoring it doesn’t work for some people… Huh?

11-0 or whatever-0 score is possible to make. I have even made 6-0 with my Engi and I’m no Pro player. There’s fact 1.

And I have this seriously wild suggestion for you – Forget about the ladder and enjoy the game. How about that? Insane idea, I know, but it works for me. I find this SoloQue 1 billion times more enjoyable than what we had before… You know, playing against premades and such?

And I’ve got this feeling if you guys just took it little easier and chill out a bit, use your superpowers to convince yourself, that this ladder is not the point of your life… you might enjoy soloque too!

TeamQ needs to have a substantially higher reward than SoloQ than hot-joins, to get the populations shifting. Its silly that you can gain the most rank/glory from farming hot joins. It should be completely the opposite + other things.

This. Not that I care about it, I always have and always will play PvP for fun only, I don’t need rewards to keep playing good pvp for years. But that’s doesn’t seem to be the case with people, and come to think of it – Hot Join, if Anet insist on it’s existance (altho if it was up to me, I would never implement it into the game at all… ever… because it’s terrible…) should offer only a fraction of glory rewards that you can get in Team Tournaments. And also people should only get access to certain cool-looking skins from SoloQ and TeamQ. That way you motivate people to play the pvp the way it’s meant to be played in this game and that they play to win AS A TEAM, play on a high level and keep wanting to improve themselves.

I’ve played 30 games, won 16.
Played 11 games on Engineer, won 8.
The rest 19 played on Warrior, won 8.

So I guess your W/L ratio could be pretty high with some luck and if you rolled that stupid broken spirit ranger for example…

But I don’t really care about the ladder. If I cared about it I wouldn’t be playing with useless Warrior. But it is kinda funny, that so many people do play Warrior on SoloQ atm, even though I still find the warrior useless most of the time…

The difference between wars and eles is that eles need to spec for survival, so they lose a lot of damage. wars just naturally have survival, and if specced for survival can go a lot further with that. or they could run damage specs and be as tanky as an ele specced into survival while doing 10x more damage.

Honestly not much that Anet can do about it. If they put some sort of “afk timer” into the game, people that refuse to play will just run around inside their own spawn. Yeah i’ve seen loads of such jerks. Started raging at his team and decided he would be better of running around inside his spawn than come out and help his team. The funny thing is that some of those games were easily winnable if not for that kitten that though he knows better than his team.

Face it, there’s kittens everywhere, in RL AND in games, and sometimes there isn’t much you can do about it. Maybe if you Fraps that person doing nothing… But then someone at Anet would have to go through those videos and decide on punishment… And that’s not going to happen.

So stop crying about it and move on, it happens to everyone at some point… And by the way, I haven’t yet played a game where AFKers would be punished, which just proves that it’s a very hard thing to do right.

Loot right now in WvW isn’t even worth mentioning, it’s so pathetic I’m starting to feel it’s useless to even press the loot button.

I can’t understand why they would nerf the WvW loot, it makes no sense to me whatsoever. I would love to hear the reasoning for this nerf from Anet staff. I mean seriously, as if WvW loot was any good before, but now… One would prolly have to play for 2 weeks to be able to afford 1 single armor piece with marks of honor…

This better be a joke.

I mean if this is the way they want to break the big zergs up that’s fine with me, but then they could at least say it and make it official…

Yep, Hot-Join was the most counter-productive feature Anet could come up with when it comes to building their pvp community, and whoever came up with the idea of Hot-join (epsecially 8v8) has NO IDEA whatsoever about how pvp community has to be built and trained. I pointed that fact out time and time and time again when the game was released, SoloQue should be on the number one priority list long before the game was even released. Hot-join was a cancer to the pvp community, it offered nothing even remotely similar to whatever the pvp in this game is supposed to be like.

The glory farm mentality is horrendous, especially because this is a team based game. There should be nothing such as individual player scores that convert into glory. There were no stats at the end of the game in GW1, the only thing that mattered is which team won, and that’s how it should be.

You know… There’s is no “I” in “Team”.

P.S. But of course, the glory farm play style wouldn’t be a problem if people weren’t kittens. But nowadays you pretty much have to face the fact that people in majority are extremely stupid and selfish (MMORPG players especially), so you have to design the game with that in mind.

I think Anet is definitely overdoing it with all the mini games. I mean it started really nicely in GW1 – wintersday, canthan new year, halloween. Just a couple of times a year you had those mini games to take a break from intense pvp. I never was much of a pve player in GW1, but we all went there and did a few runs of mini games when there was the celebration.

It also started off ok in GW2, I liked running a few minigames of halloween and stuff… But now? Every 2 weeks 2 new mini games. I’m getting sick of them, and if they just stop putting them into the game I will still be sick of them until Halloween comes out this year. I may just skip those too. As I said – Overdone, and it took away the uniqueness of the events mentioned above.

Second – Does anyone still remember the original story of GW2? Well I think they should continue working on it. Right now it’s all about festivals, jubilees, characters that are trying to be funny and cheerful. No sense Tyria needs saving from anyone really, it’s all party all the way. Some serious grown up content is what this game needs, with deep story that makes one think and ponder a bit when the story ends… Some twists, drama and tragedy, build a character that everyone loves and kill him at the end of the story… you know, stuff like that…

Most of the story writing in this game seems to be done for 12 year olds. However that doesn’t apply to every aspect of the game. Artist (and those that manifest their ideas into the digital form) for example are making an exceptional job and they outshine any other MMORPG by lightyears. So hats of to Daniel Dociu, his team and everyone involved.

I don’t see why I would really care about the ladder. But ok, I guess that’s me. But it seems to me that people spend more time checking out the ladder than enjoying/playing the game. Why do you torture yourselves?

Anyway I logged in yesterday, did about 5 or 6 Solo Arenas, had way more fun than with old “join solo” 1-round tournaments that matched me up against premades most of the time, so yeah,… I had fun. I don’t even know what my W/L ratio is, I don’t care.
I can spend 1000s of hours playing PvP games without anyone handing me out shiny rewards and without seeing my name on top of some pointless ladder… Because pvp is fun. Played Quake series for over a decade, people still play it nowadays… No rewards there, no ladder really. Imagine that, why would anyone wanna play it, huh?

P.S: Oh and by the way, the ladder is only 2 days old…

Ah just as I predicted prior Solo que release, people are QQing because they get teamed up with noobs. BoooHooo, this is soloque where you get teamed up with randoms. That’s what soloque does, it’s what it stands for. Deal with it. Do you think you’re the only one that has his rank tanked by inexperienced and/or selfish players that don’t want to listen to simple directions? Well GUESS AGAIN! Everyone has to deal with it, so stop being childish. Seriously that’s the only word I can use right now.

I played Random Arena in GW1 for years, got to gladiator rank 7. There was no match-up system that would take care that you get teamed up with other similar ranked players, no system, that would take care that you face a team with similar ranks as your team has, no system that would take care that class distribution is fair… no one cried about all that stuff. There are good games with good players, and there are bad games with bad players. It happens to everyone, now seriously stop crying and deal with it.

If Anet put in all the filters that you guys want on this forum right now:

1. rank filter
2. class distribution filter
3. no more than 2 of the same class in 1 team filter
4. no people of the same guild in one team filter
.
.
.

It would make for the most complex match-up system ever kittening created and que times would be 1 week long. The only important point up there is #4, everything else is NOT.

Funny thing, my server (Far Shiverpeaks) just got 1st place in our WvW match-up before the 2 week update came. Today we are on the second place with 5k+ points behind 1st and only about 1,5k points ahead of 3rd. Pretty much lost more than 11k points compared to current leading world since the content update came… :/

Like I said somewhere, we lack couple of crucial game modes.
That includes:
- unranked 5v5 for people trying to get good as a team, or mentor friends/guildies through tournament mechanics/tactics, already mentioned by Phantaram in this board
-ranked premade 5v5 only, for most competitive players
-TDM slaughter, for both, people keen on killing and those trying to learn the combat mechanics with a chosen party size (2v2,3v3,5v5 whatever)

No 1v1 mode though – if this game even tries to be balanced for 1v1 matchups it will fail a big time.

@up I’d be the last person to care about the ladder, but ever since its the ONLY form of comparison, besides general consideration of someone being good/known/skilled/whatnot, I have to admit it slightly matters. Now if you let it be affected by random factors like beating 4+1’s it will mean even less.
And may I remind you, that most of people (I knew) decided to drop out from competitive format back in november/october 2012 due to no real goal in pvp (no ladder, no promised custom arenas to practise, just free tournaments and no ability to scrim, etc).

-your 1st bullet can be achieved in Custom Arenas. That is after all how top guilds do it. They get a sparing partner to play with in CA.

-TA will eventually become “competitive 5v5 only” even if it allows smaller teams to enter. Again I can’t see why care so much if smaller teams decide to enter, they are only putting themselves at a disadvantage, but it’s OK to give them an option to do that if so they decide.

And last but not least, tournaments is where real competitive team should shine. GW1 had monthly tournaments, and after those were introduced, no one really cared about the ladder anymore. I hope Anet still has plans on something like that in GW2.

-With some expansion of Custom Arena customization this too could be achieved.

The way I see it, Anet only has to expand the options in CA and start doing some automated monthly tournaments like in GW1 and everything would be covered.

Now don’t get me wrong I’m no GW2 fanboy that thinks everything is fine here. If you look at my posting history you’ll see I’ve done my share of ranting on these forums. But the way I see it here, a lot of people are crying about supposedly missing things, that aren’t actually missing anymore, or aren’t a real problem anymore…

P.S: If they added everything you mentioned above as it’s own independent pvp arena/format it would fracture the community even further, which would destroy the game, the queues for any arena would be just too long.

Well single players qing up for Team Arena won’t cause any deviations on ladder, I think there’s no doubt about that. The occurrence itself won’t hinder your serious competitive experience in tPvP either, I can assure you that too. I don’t consider allowing solo players to join TA is pleasing carebears at all. It’s merely allowing a 4 man team that queued up to play together in TA with another random player. All 5 of them are actually in a disadvantage by playing that way. As I said – solo player is much better off qing in SA than in TA, so I can’t see how 4+1 would affect anyone else but those involved.

And why care so much about the godkitten ladder in the first place? I’m shocked at how seriously people here take this ladder. If Anet just removed it 95% of QQ-ing would stop and they would all live happily ever after.

You’re judging the whole ladder based on some theoretical 4+1 scenario that will hardly ever, EVER happen? AND it will only happen when there’s 4+1 people up for it! So it’s their choice they play that way, why do you even care how people decide to play their game?! Great objective and constructive criticism we’ve got here.

Actually most of the time random teams don’t discuss strategy (at least not for now). So if at start of the match you DO make some plans, and people actually follow that plan (that’s the hard part) you chances of winning improve a lot.

But I gave up on trying to organize my random team a long time ago, because there’s always an ignorant kitten that can’t read and does stuff his own way (which is usually the most stupid stuff he could do). So it’s all just a waste of my energy…

It’s about the single person, who will be trying to get carried. It’s about people willing to participate, without making sure they are either commited or skilled enough not to be a burden.
It’s about low ambitious people, who’ll want to get easy glory/wins%/whatever by taking a chance of akitten through the match that 4-man premade will win.

Force these people to go solo-que or find the kitten team, each way benefits both him (getting good) and the community that gets more people into the teamplay, possibly causing more TEAMS to form and compete.

So yeah, try leaving a loaded gun next to an insane person and see how he uses this option…

1. If there’s a single person that wants to get carried by a 4 man premade, there has to be a 4 man premade that decided they are OK with chances of getting that kind of a solo player, because they just queued up as a 4 man team…

2. Chances of that single person actually being carried to win by a 4-man team in team arena are very very slim, most of the time he would loose, and he would be much better of in solo arena…

So still, you’re making a HUUUGEEE problem out of something that isn’t a problem at all, and will never be a problem.

I knew posts like this would pop up as soon as SoloQ was released. What did you guys expect from soloq? Perfect teams with perfect compositions with perfect players that know exactly what they’re supposed to be doing?

Hey by all means, if you have an idea of how to achieve that for solo que I’m sure we would all like to hear it, including A-net. Adjust your expectations to reality and stop crying or just stop playing. Solo que is always like this, always has been and always will be. Worrying about dropping your rank also – your problem. I don’t care about my rank. All I care about is that I know, when I join a solo que that I won’t play against premades. That’s what soloque offers, that’s what it’s supposed to offer, and I’m satisfied with it.

So now you don’t like the fact that a 4 man premade can join the team arena and get a random person, and you would rather see that a 4 man premade can’t even join the TA?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but that’s how I understand what’s written above…

And if I understand correctly, blaming Anet for that is simply silly. If someone wants to join TA with a 4 man team, they will be aware of their chances of getting an inexperienced player, hence from that moment on it’s their decision they want to do it that way.

And I’m pretty sure this particular scenario won’t even be a problem. A team of 4 will always find the 5th player in the Mists if they desire a well organised team, and if they don’t look for one, well then they just don’t care enough to be bothered by a random noob anyway…

Leave the options open, it’s up to players how they use those options…

Well there’s going to be matches when your team has a better comp and when opposing team has better comp. So yeah, you’re going to have some of that, so prepare for it, it’s solo que.

I already feel that a lot of people expect the world to change now with solo que, many people seem to have this idea in the back of their mind that their team comps will always be fair. They won’t be, but at least you won’t be going up against premades. So if what you said about RA in GW1 bothered you, it will bother you here. The only difference is that there is no such important class in GW2 team comp as monk might have been in GW1. Although I’ve had many 20+ win streaks in GW1 without a monk in my team… Just people that knew what they’re doing.

I have one concern regarding the solo Q… Invading roles were way more rewarding than bunkers, so do you think that we will have people willing to play bunkers? Or will we have teams made of 5 berserkers?

I wouldn’t be concerned about that, also I can’t see why invading roles would be more rewarding. The most rewarding is that your team actually wins. I guess the rewards won’t change, so for winning you get 200 glory + the glory for your game + chest. Only looking glory-wise you can hardly ever sum up 300 points in a lost game…

I think (and hope) people will want to win in Solo Q, which means, that if they realise there isn’t enough bunkers, they will roll Guardian…

Anyway people should be aware that doing solo Q you will hardly ever have a perfect team comp, so keep that in mind when you press that “Join Solo” button…

Que with 1 or 2 of your buddies and check roster when it appears and disband if your not with them.

The roster will be hidden in Solo Q so this doesn’t happen.

Altho I’m still a bit afraid we might see teams of 2 people of the same guild in the same team… Chances for that of course depend on how many people will que and how the system works?

Does it wait a certain time interval, take the players it got in that interval and randomly puts them into the team, or are teams composed in real time as players sign-up (which would lead to sync entering…)?

Stealth – Working as intented!!!

On a serious note, well played man. Seriously, well played.

Funny thing tho – I’ve played many, many MMORPGs. The big majority of those RPGs had an Assassin class that had stealth and I was always saying to my friends: “Dudes stealth is the most kittened mechanic one can put into an MMORPG with pvp, it’s broken and it should never be there!”, and then I continued: “I mean look at GW1, no stealth there, Anet knows what they are doing, they know what is cheesy, and it’s the best spvp on MMORPG market!”

Now the funny part: Anet releases GW2 where stealth just broke new ground of cheesiness! In no other game could you perma stealth. In other MMORPGs stealth was usually available for like 10- seconds out of 60, when you attacked you lost stealth, when you took damage you lost stealth, there were classes that could unstealth you with their skill, when you were in stealth you walked 25-33% slower. None of that in GW2, perma stealth with no drawbacks all the way! You can even kittening stealth your whole team, YES!!!!

Seriously Anet, is what you see on that video the game you imagined would be fun and balanced?

I just wish this question answered by one of Anet staff, the one that designed the classes, preferably.

OMG did I just read a thread where people are stating that mace/shield GS sword has no counter? Please tell me I did not!

Are we sure we’re talking about the same game here? GW2? mace/shield GS has no counter in GW2?? Well kind sir if that is what you think you should either:

a) Uninstall the game
b) L2P (as much as I had that three letter abbreviation because it’s overused lately, but it just applies here, it really does)

Had I not lost all hope in humanity a long time ago, I would have lost it right now for sure.

Just 2 days ago I had a team in SoloQQ where 3 of my teammates caped Mine together while there was no one there. All 3 of them just stood there until Mine was full cap. When Mine was full cap they together went to kill Svanir. While they were killing Svanir, the enemy started caping Mine again. When my superduper Teammates killed Svanir they all headed towards mid, ignoring the cap on Mine. Mid however was safe because I was defending it and no one was there.

So… yeah… How do you refrain yourself from throwing insults at people playing like that? I couldn’t understand how they could play so stupid!!!! I bet if I was playing with a group of pigeons they could make better calls.

Anyway yeah… That’s soloq for you, but still… It’s way better than hotjoin however. At least in Hot-join I don’t mind people playing just to farm glory (as stupid as I find it). But when people play like that in SoloQ it makes my blood boil…

I won’t comment on the nerf itself if it’s good or if it’s bad, if it was needed or not, because at this point, that’s not the case.

I think this hot-fix happened because the PAX tournament is here, and the only dominant class in tpvp right now was Necro. Anet doesn’t want streams where teams consist of 2 or even 3 necros, so they did what they thought was best. To be honest I would have done the same on their place. And I repeat, this isn’t as much about Dhuumfire being OP or not, it’s just about the fact that Necro is the current FOTM, has been for some time now, and they don’t want too many Necros on PAX. This nerf doesn’t make Necros useless however, claiming that would be just another community fuelled exaggeration… The kind of exaggeration we can see a lot on forums of competitive gaming.

Oh I just love it, when people start dismissing auto-approach and auto-turn with arguments like: “No skill bro, YO!”

Seriously? Turning your camera around to face your enemy is what you label as “Skill”?

Let me tell you something. GW1 had auto-turn AND auto-approach, and guess what? Playing GvG was in skill terms in my opinion way more demanding. Because there was LOADS of other stuff you had to watch out for. Enemy splits, enemy flagger, counting down enemy blind, guardian, aegis, shield of absorption cooldowns, bodyblocking, every enemy had a skill progression bar when you targeted him, so when you saw him casting something you could interrupt it. The SKILL was in observing what your enemy does and reacting to it accordingly. That’s what real skill is in RPG. Not turning your character around. lol.

So no, Auto-turn does not eliminate skill and turning your character in the direction of your enemy does not demand skill. In a tactically demanding game auto-turn is a convenience that allows you to focus on other tactical aspects of the game. And in a tactical game only tactical aspects count as skill, as far as I’m concerned. If you want skill in turning your character play Quake. But saying that you need SKILL in order to turn your character where you want to shoot your arrow in GW2 must be the sorriest excuse for the term “skill” I have ever heard.

Sure they can remove all the auto-turns, but then they should as well just add FPS style controls with crosshair at the center of your screen and be done with it.

Don’t forget this is still an RPG and RPGs always had a certain amount of mechanical stuff automated so you could focus on tactical element of the game. And if anything in GW2 I wish the tactical element strengthened, not the action element of combat.

I love FPS games and I love RPG games, but I’m becoming fed up with cheap mixtures of both genres, because those games usually just pill off the best of both genres and you end up with a dumbed down mixture of both. Aiming for motorically kittened and a shallow RPG element.

Going for the monster kill is a risk and it should be. That’s why top teams rarely go for monster kills unless the game is really close towards the end.

It’s also risky to go for the lord on Legacy, all secondary objectives have to have some kind of risk/reward, that’s the point of competitive pvp.

I just love how stupid can people act sometimes on FoN. 2-3 people rush the monster, no one even bothers too look behind for enemies before they attack it, and then they cry that their points were stolen. Seriously? This isn’t PvE.

The only cheap thing about it here is thiefs and their stealth. But stealth is another issue that is being discussed over many threads on this forum…

CC Warrior is ONLY a viable build, nothing more than that. The counters and risk vs rewards to it are soooo high, if anyone has problems naming at least a few then there’s something terribly wrong with your play style.

CC Warrior will still get melted and CCd by AoEs in big fights, there you really have to be careful not to overextend and how you pick your targets. So how do you pick your targets? Pick the kittening Engi or Necro spamming nades from 1500, marks from 1200, chase them down, try to kill them. IT IS A COUNTER PLAY, finally!!! Finally you can really punish careless people spamming AoE from the safe distance.

And “someone” here in this topic is acting as if Warrior can just barge into the fight and start chain stunning anyone on sight. I mean lol… get a grip.
