I definitely agree with OP on his point.
The fact that this trait works so badly with mentioned skill has been getting on my nerves for a long time now. Oh well but I guess Anet just decided a long time ago that Wars won’t really have anything worthy apart from our boring passive abilities…
P.S Also have to mention that Blade Trail with this trait would also make a very viable option, but the way it works is just too bad.

Well boycotting the game in the state that Anet left it for this week is the best message to send to Anet, altho I’m quite sure they don’t really care.
They never really cared about WvW feedback before, they didn’t even bother to fix one simple exploit for the whole week. So why bother playing?
Even the week before Golem Rush began (as soon as it was announced) I quit GW2 until… well until I feel like coming back, if I ever do. But reading how they were even too lazy to fix the golem buff exploit on player characters, watching a few well made state of WvW videos, reading some good posts about how out of touch Anet is with their WvW playerbase and knowing how they don’t really care about it AT ALL, after two weeks i still feel no urge to log back in and I’m just fine with that.
I went for another playthrough of Divinity: Original Sin. After that I will go for another playthrough of Pillars of Eternity, still haven’t had the time to go for Withcer 3, so yeah. I’ve got plenty to do.
Brilliant post OP, I just hope at least one Anet employee takes the time to read it, altho it should actually be written on a golden wall right at the entrance to the Anet building…
I’m 100% WvW player, I haven’t done anything else in the game for over a year now. I’m basically disgusted by PvE, if I want competitive sPvP there are better choices out there.
But the way Anet is treating WvW and it’s playerbase basically made me stop logging into WvW too. This stupid Golem Rush event just pushed it way too far.
What a way to ruin it all. And there I was believing for 3 years, that they would get their kitten together, but it all went downhill ever since the release… :S
Good thing I haven’t preordered HoT yet, it would feel a waste right now.
I have always been saying that Warriors should be able to pick up an arrowcart and they would also get a whole trait line with bonuses to arrowcart weapon. Then they could simply walk onto a wall and proceed to exterminate!
Like so: https://youtu.be/nrahTQfHP_o?t=9s
So… When the majority of WvW players feel like siege golems shouldn’t even exist, Anet decides to do this:
World vs. World
Hop into World vs. World between July 17 and July 24 to experience our newest special event, Golem Rush, where siege golems are better, faster, and stronger!
During the special event, all golems will be supercharged and have the following effects:
All siege golems in WvW no longer require supply to construct.
All siege golems in WvW will deal 100% additional damage to other golems and players.
All siege golems in WvW will move at 100% additional movement speed.
Basically I’m speechless. Cya next week, maybe…
The lag since stabi update has gone out of control, the game has become unplayable, guilds are loosing patience and will no longer raid.
I will soon loose patience also and stop logging in, because WvW cannot be enjoyed as it is.
Well it may, but it’s definitely not for sure. Berserker’s Stance is a stance after all and stances do not necessarily “follow” the boon rules.
They made a boon that behaves like that, because they simply wanted an option where people could give condi immunity to other players and for that I guess you need a boon…
The way I see it stances are kind of a warrior’s unique thing and they shouldn’t tie them up into boons in the first place, because if they keep doing that, well then you basically loose the whole point of what stance is supposed to be and you can just call all that a boon.
Even balanced stance and dolyak shouldn’t give stability based on stability boon, but rather a stability effect, just like quickness effect per se.
So if Anet is going down that road and just turning all stances into boons, then I ask myself what’s the point of stances in the first place…
Slightly off topic, but still: I just wish that the beta warrior design is the one we had – spend adrenaline on various stances, that would let you choose from playing offensively or defensively.
Ok here’s a quote from Anet staff:
Don’t worry, Point of No Return does *not mean that you won’t be able to update & Return to playing #GW2. Hang in there briefly! ~RB2*
I get the same problem.
Just so you know you’re not alone… It usually helps
+1
Facts. I’ve been saying that “play how you want” died at the moment when the new Trait System was introduced. Worst call I have seen in MMORPGs in many years.
But what bothers me the most about all this, that there’s people there in Anet that keep making terrible calls for the game, that most people really dislike and even when the community makes a thread with 3400 replies and 160 000 views about how bad a certain change is, Anet refuses to do anything except adding more designs that ruin the game even further.
:S
(edited by samo.1054)
TBH my experience with the new system is rather positive. I’m from EU server, mostly playing on EU peak time, so the queues are really short.
My W/L ratio is 50% which is about something that the match-making supposedly wanted to achieve. Of course I don’t like that there’s a chance of being matched up against a premade of 3+ players, but I haven’t noticed that being a major problem for now. It could be in the future tho…
For now the match-making seems much more consistent than the previous soloQ, where I could go from a 10 win streak to a 15 loss streak and that happened to me regularly…
Endgame is whatever you make of it.
To me endgame in GW2 is:
1. Raiding WvW with my guild, have all the GWEN classes ready to roll for it.
2. Mastering all the classes in SPvP (which may actually take A LOT of time).
3. Just doing some other random stuff with the guild or on my own.
So in short, GW2 endgame to me is definitely not grind. It’s simply doing what I feel like doing the most at any given moment I’m online.
Dunno why people take games as some sort of job that they have to do? Yeah, that’s when it turns into a grind…
Unranked play should never have any possibility of a solo player meeting a premade of any size.
Yes I know almost all other MMORPGs also do that, but that’s why PvP is bad in those MMORPGs.
TBH the system foro soloQing i liked the most already exists in Guild Wars 1 Random Arena. That system with a fix that minimizes sync entering success and you’ve got a perfect solo arena imho…
How? How is this still being left unfixed?
Seven months. Three thousands posts, almost entirely negative. 138,000 views.
Clearly because Anet knows better what we enjoy, than we do ourselves… :S
I have two level 80 alts now, fully equiped, both with about 5 traits that I just randomly got while playing. Those two characters will never have traits if this system stays in place.
I won’t spend 100+ hours farming them and I can’t really afford them, even if I was willing to pay for them… Which I am not.
I’m giving you guys a suggestion right here: Every time Anet posts something about Guild Wars 2 either on Facebook, reddit,… whatever, we copy-paste the link to this thread as an answer to whatever they posted. We all keep doing that until we get some serious answers from game designers in here. End this bullkitten!
(edited by samo.1054)
Please Anet, tell us you plan on doing something with this. A simple account unlock for all classes upon doing this once would be good enough for all of us, because then we’d all know we only have to do this ONCE.
Just wanted to repost this quote on PAGE 58. Such a simple solution to this trait mess.
Not good enough. I don’t want to be forced to do any of that stuff. If I only look at stuff that I have to do for T1 traits I just hold my head thinking: “Sooo much boring, annoying kitten!”
I’ve gone through PvE maps once, I don’t mind doing the personal story, but my character with highest map exploration is 61%, I don’t want to touch those maps any more. They are boring, a waste of time, Anet made them that way and now they’re forcing us to play them or spend abnormal amount of gold and skill points. kitten that.
Trait system back to what it was before or a system that doesn’t take more than 5 minutes to unlock any single trait. Similar to caping skill point.
(edited by samo.1054)
6+ months, 57 pages of people trying to tell Anet that their new system is bad, Anet still silent, ignoring, ignorant.
Quite amazing. Actually I’m starting to get this feeling, that Anet decided that they aren’t doing anything about this new system. Argument: <Insert blah blah blah, due to technical limitations of our game.> period. That’s how they usually do it.
And whoever made the call about it was like: “Ignore this, they will get used to this new system or get bored of whining about it.”
No, no Anet – People HAVE quit because of this trait system, people ARE QUITTING right now and people WILL BE QUITTING in the future.
Bah, why do I even bother… It’s not like you care. This thread is a perfect example of a game’s community having a monologue, hoping that the other side hears them out…
First of all, I like this game.
But it’s becoming increasingly obvious that Anet are going to have to step up their game… Step up big time. I’m talking expansion big. Without it, they’ve doomed their own game – that’s one simple fact.
Just a thought – If Anet (or NCsoft) continue to treat GW2 the way they did until now, there’s more chance that in 5 years time, WoW will still be alive and kicking, while GW2 pretty much dead… and at that point in time, WoW will be a 15 year-old game.
People responsible for development and funding of GW2 should consider, because obviously they’re doing something wrong. After 2 years, good and strong MMOs grow stronger. GW2 is going weak.
No meaningful additions to the game for a long long time now, it feels like they have like 2 developers and one half-drunk lead designer working on the game… The only thing they are doing is adding and changing things that no one asked for, and those changes usually end up annoying the majority of their players (enter april trait system change, enter september NPE, enter the recent change to currency exchange in TP… I really could go on forever here). And oh boy, let’s wait till they implement the “no white swords” in WvW. There’s going to be tons of rage… and for a good reason.
They better announce something big (and I already defined “big” in this post) after the season 2 ends, or it’s the beginning of the end. Slow but painful ending. Especially painful for those of us that want this game to unleash it’s full potential.
(edited by samo.1054)
I’m afraid this will only encourage servers to blob even more, which means large servers win again… Pair that with “no white swords” change and what you get is huge blobs running around PvDing every keep and tower.
It’s not even bad you only need 5 wins to get to top 100. I had a winning streak of 9 a few days back and I went from 95% to 97%.. And being out of the ladder is basically a hellhole you can’t crawl out of. The type of players that I’m getting there is making my head hurt while I’m watching them play… And it’s not like I can carry 4 of such players, so it’s basically a lottery.
Yesterday’s result in SoloQ: 1 win 11 losses, 4 games 4v5, 5 games on Skyhammer.
Loads of fun…
6 months of community being in complete agreement, that the new trait system is complete kitten. I mean seriously GW2 community has not seen such an unified opinion on any other feature in game… yet we see 6 months of Anet completely ignoring this terrible issue. Honestly, I am lost for words… I can’t really begin to understand why Anet is treating this the way they are.
The attitude Anet is showing here on this matter is on par with terrible, ignorant South Korean MMORPG developers. Did you really want to be in that company Anet?!
You used to be so much better…
you know what made warrior viable? healing signet, cleansing ire, berserker stance, miss two of these and you are a dead horse, you know what happened when these things did not exist? warrior was the free point class, no team wanted, in tpvp if you see a warrior in 10 matches, you are lucky
This. This exactly. And it’s a shame that warrior is basically reduced to 3 of the same utility skills, we all know which ones, there’s very little variety in that. And as Simon says, miss any of the things he mentioned and you get a meh build.
As much as I respect Anet for making classes and their mechanics quite different and playing each class unique, they’ve done a good job with Mesmer, Ele, Engi and Guardian. Not so good with necro, bad with warrior and ranger.
I’ve always imagined that Warrior should also have F1-F4 skills available on adrenaline, not only 1 attack and those skills would be more utility-orientated.
Warrior is pigeonholed when it comes to builds because of the way it was designed. It could be such a fun class if they made F1-F4 skills based on adrenaline for him, letting the warrior choose to either play offensively or defensively via those skills (much like mesmer). It would open up new build variants, but most importantly, make warrior a more active class to play, not just popping strong passive utilities.
Active and effective = fun.
Passive = boring.
Anyway, what I’m suggesting here would demand quite a class redesign and that’s not going to happen…
The leader boards are working as intended, The only problem is that is a simple win/lose without taking into account your personal contributions. It would work fine for dueling ranks but when your success also depends on what the 4 other team mates are doing it will never be accurate.
Also the match making is all kinds of messed up. You’ll get lucky and have a decent comp with similarly skills players for a few matches then all of a sudden you get paired with likes of 2 levelup bearbows and a nub D/D BS spamming thief for 5 games in a row.
Your ranking is also affected by 4v5s and AFKS so all in all, they don’t mean a kitten things. It’s almost as bad as the in game RNG. If you are lucky and get good teams your rank goes up.
Basically this. 2 weeks ago I had a run in a few days where I felt like it became impossible for me to get a decent team. My teammates were on the level that you can see in hotjoin, it was so ridiculous, I was left speechless… The win loss ratio must have been something like 5/25. Then a week later in a span of 3 days I did 9 consecutive wins and 1 loss… It’s all really random. Especially for people that are out of top 1000. It’s a hole that you can’t crawl out of, because most of the time you will get people on your team that are just completely clueless. But this is something that you have to take for granted when doing soloQ, and the sooner you stop raging about it the better…
Don’t take this ladder too seriously, altho nice numbers are sometimes nice to watch
(edited by samo.1054)
I’m afraid that No-exp might be the choice that Anet went for. Why am I afraid? Because I like the game and I see myself playing it for quite some more time. This time, however, would be greatly expanded if Anet decided for an expansion. It would bring so much life into the game, so many returning and new players.
If Anet decided to go without an expansion, they’ve ultimately doomed their own game 5 years beforehand. Such a bad call and such a shame.
And a Quiz question here:
Why do you think WoW is still the strongest MMORPG on the market, even tho it’s 10 years old?
Geez, no idea, but I do know, that the game is having it’s fifth big expansion coming out in november!
Step it up Anet, for your own sake…
Don’t be too sad, you’re an Asura anyway… It’s not like anyone can see what you’re wearing…
To me that is an issue with this game; where the players are the ones making the game fun, not the game itself. Once players start leaving, where’s the fun in the game?
Um lol… Isn’t that the case with every MMO – people making the game fun? TBH I wouldn’t want to play any MMORPG alone.
Don’t cry about EotM. I intend to level 2 more alts when they fix the trait system, and I would much rather do it in EotM than the PvE maps. Unless I can farm enough Tomes of Knowledge…
EotM is awesome
People should QQ less about everything…
The problem is that those same tards usually also fail. Altho I really dislike to see my teammates rush far at start, I don’t mind it so much, if they actually succeed.
2 days ago in Niflhel before the round started I told my team that I’m going Keep… No one said anything, so I said to myself: “Ok, let’s hope they play this out better than communicate”.
Nope, the round started, I’m checking what my teammates are going for… They all passed Mine, so I went Mine, and the four of them went directly to Svanir. Yes, all four of them on Svanir. After they killed Svanir, they went Keep and got wiped, while I was defending Mine against 2 people…
So basically after those 30 seconds I just gave up on that game. Before the game ended I saw so much stupidity from those same people in my team, I could write a 350 page Tragic book about it…
I’m no pro player, all I expect from my team is some common sense. If everyone in your team has some common sense you could win most of the matches in SoloQ… But common sense is a superpower nowadays, we all know that by now, right.
Yes, I absolutely agree with both of you – right now they have to tread carefully on this matter, but still step in the direction that the community is showing them and trusting their guts at the same time.
Any way you look at this tho, it’s quite clear that current system is unacceptable for the big majority of us. It’s like an abortion of all the alts that we ever wanted to make. :P
And let’s not even talk about how this system effects new players. It’s pure torture.
(edited by samo.1054)
All these Warriors clinging to the only Burst skill left that doesn’t require any intelligent targeting / placement. I hope they add a single target requirement to Combustive Shot and let it be affected by Aegis and Blocks.
Yes, because Combustive Shot is the only skill in the game that doesn’t require any intelligent action.
Everything else is fine and very intelligence intensive. I often get headaches after playing GW2, because it’s so thought intensive… I’ve also grown a huge forehead because of it. I’m getting monsterbrain.
Well that’s great news, I hope they use this as a motivation to work harder and better than ever
So many well well-written posts here… Seriously, can Anet just for once admit that what they did was wrong and listen to the people here?!?!
Great stuff!
Bottom line is that all classes in GW2 have annoying stuff and some kind of iWin button IF you don’t know how to handle it well. That’s why this game is hard for new players when it comes to PvP and unfortunately many give up…
GW2 does have a future, but it’s all up to Anet how this future will be. I could be very bright, or it could be a couple of more years of loosing players.
Basically Anet have to step up their game. Players that already left and existing players basically want an official game update… the kind of update that they were making in GW1 with factions, nightfall and EoTN. When you have such updates coming out for your MMORPG, each of those update is actually a mini game relaunch – if you managed to convince the public that the update carries enough new features. And I know Anet could bring A TON of people back to the game if they just already announced and made an official update.
The update model that Anet has chosen is bad for the game I think. It never creates the feeling of big changes and it never hypes up the public. That is what MMORPGs need to survive and to keep their player base.
Anet has to realize that and act on it while there’s still time. Otherwise the future of GW2 is shorter and not as bright and all blame falls either on Anet (bad plans?) or NCSoft (for not giving enough funds).
Players are still out there, waiting for something to make them log in again…
a smaller cone on fan of arrows might actually be a buff however, let’s complain about it being too wide as if that makes it OP.
You’re right
Fierce blow has incredible uptime of weakness unlike all those other skills. 75% uptime untraited, ungeared is alot more then 25%, 20%, 30%,25%, 16% uptime. The necromancer has at least with 3 of them to reach the same uptime then Firece Blow
Are you seriously calling that an argument?!
Point #1
Noone ever said that all classes will be equaly effective at applying different conditions. If your argument is that necro is not as good at applying weakness as warrior is (which is a false argument anyway), then I can complaing that Warrior does not have access to poison and fear as strong as Necromancer.
Point #2
Please do take a look at the ways that necro can apply weakness and compare that to Fierce blow. Then cosider how Fierce blow can be countered and how for example Enfeebling blood can be canceled and countered.
Fierce blow – slow melee attack with countless means to avoid it. Number of targets 3.
Enfeebling blood – 900 range, 240 AoE, Number of targets 5. It also applies bleeding.
Point #3
Your talking about that weakness uptime on Fierce Blow as if every warrior will ALWAYS hit you with his fierce blow and that warrior will also ALWAYS use fierce blow on you on cooldown. It seems to me that scenario is only possible if you’re standing still and doing nothing while fighting him… Don’t stand still.
This topic is beyond ridiculous and you guys are pulling arguments out of your kitten , mixing apples and oranges.
All I can do is hope that Anet doesn’t take topics like this too seriously, because then the whiners such as you are the ones we should blame for crap balance, overnerfing and overbuffing.
What’s the next Warrior QQ thread? Fan of Arrows too wide? This kitten is getting out of control. l2p issues imo.
(edited by samo.1054)
Saying some1 to l2p, is totally valid point. If youre right. And youre double wrong.
1) 2x dodges – 4x hammer skillz – 1x bow skill – 1x everytime youre 130 range + X energyi sigil = _ ??
If you’re going to paint such a biased picture then I’m just going to say stunbreaker, kiting, chill, criple, BLIND added to all those evades. I’m sure your class can do some of that, right?
Seriously, stop overexagerating just to make your point at any possible cost.
You should roll a warrior and learn a thing or two about them. It’s basically my main, but it’s also the class I find the easiest to play against when I’m on other classes.
Gaile, the easiest (from the player view) way to fix this would be to make it so if you have already got characters with traits unlocked, make them, at the appropriate level, be account unlocks. Then, the new players get introduced properly, and the existing players get the traits the way they are used to. Is this not feasable?
If not, then make either an npc where you can buy scrolls of knowledge (for skill unlocking) for a small amount of karma, or give us enough skill points, early enough, to unlock the utilities and skills as we want them.
This is basically all the feedback you need. Accountwide trait unlocks seem completely viable solution if your only concern was new player experience Anet…
Also I think that this new trait system actually slows down the learning of the trait system, because for new players traits are so hard to obtain, there’s plenty of them running around wtih lvl 70 characters and only like 5 traits unlocked. These poor guys hardly know anything about the trait system. In the old system we got those traits, we could start improvising with our character much earlier, slowly learning the synergies we wanted to get from our traits. Now these guys have those 5 random traits unlocked and they basically can’t do anything useful with that… Not good. And the wholse system is annoying for existing players too.
I’m happy you at least took out the map completions. Or so it seems… I’ll have to check that. Anyhow I still think this trait system is way to annoying to start a new alt. Simple as that. And as I’ve said many times – If I was a new player right now, I would quit this game withing a week – all thanks to this torturous trait system.
(edited by samo.1054)
I’ve been exclusively playing Mesmer, War and Engi since release. The three classes play much differently, that’s a good thing and yes Engi and Mesmer are mechanically more intensive, but when I see people running around yelling how their class demands a “BETTER PLAYER” than some other class I just burst into laughter.
Don’t worry boys, this is just a game, it’s not rocket science, anyone can be good at any class as long as they like playing the game, the class and spend a lot of time to practice.
And if anyone thinks there’s a faceroll class out there, then by all means, go ahead roll that class and win a tournament with it.
I’ve been gaming online for 15 years now, and it’s so funny when I see people complaining about others running “cheese builds”, but when they rolled the same cheese build, they were just bad at it.
And since this is a GW forum I can give you an example: remember GW1 and rawr? How everyone complained about their rawr spike and how cheesy it is, yet everyone that tried the “rawrway” just couldn’t measure up to them and rawr continuously ended up being the montly tournament winners. I always found that funny as hell…
I went from tallest, to shortest and back to tallest.
I like my character to stand out in the crowd
It especially makes sense to make the tallest character possible if you’re happy with your character looks. I mean … I couldn’t roll an asura, because it really doesn’t matter what you wear, no one can see those little tiny details anyway. All asuras look the same to me, the only difference I can notice is their heads and hair.
It’s different with Charr and Norn…
Is this OP serious?
Just bumping this thread, because it has to stay up there until Anet realizes that the new trait system makes new character experience beyond terrible.
Nice catch OP, I was just wondering about that yesterday because I was getting suspicious about it, but didn’t have the time to test it…
Hope this gets noted and fixed soon.
My engineer I made to try the NPE is now level 59, nearly 60. How many traits does it have? A free +1 from me if you guess right!
But Anet isn’t listening, they don’t care, or they’d have acted by now. Nothing will change.
Pretty much same here. Level 57 engi made about a month ago. It’s got 3 traits. Got 2 from doing zone completions, then I just gave up. Pointless, boring and very very painful.
And yeah sadly, I agree. Nothing will change, I know them well enough by now, to know that they will never admit they did something wrong and revert. They might make some micro adjustments just so they could say “hey guys look, we listened, we fixed it”, but basically everything will remain the same steaming pile of kitten.
(edited by samo.1054)
What are you guys talking about?! Anet is well known for not taking the whack-a-mole approach to balancing GW2.
Ohwait, 3 nerfs to one mechanic in a single balance pass? Nevermind I said anything…
Every day this trait system exists in GW2 is a day when Anet could keep a new player, but they don’t.
And week by week their old players slowly quit instead of maybe creating a new character, but they refuse to, because of the torturous trait system. Honestly, no matter how hard I try to understand, I just can’t, whatever the game designers were thinking when coming up with this idea… I can’t.
It’s like replacing the wheels on a car from round ones to triangular expecting that gas consumption would go down and drivers (customers) would find it fun to drive… for whatever reason. Seriously Anet, stop introducing random changes that no one wants and listen to what your community ACTUALLY REALLY wants.
All I have to say.
No.
Siege disablers are fine, stop crying, move on, nothing to see here.
