Perhaps the only RP-oriented guild on the server
Main Character: Farathnor (sylvari ranger) 1 of 22
yeah, that always annoyed me… i understand why they went for it, but we should at least get the choice of whether we want it on or not
whil Charr definitely have a military bend to them (in fact, they are almost entirely military based from what i have seen) they are smart enough to know there are other means to victory… and other ways to define victory as well.
not to mention that after seeing what cooperation can do for them, the races of tyria will probably find it easier to work together, especially if a new outside threat arises
so yeah, a social reform of the world of tyria would not be out of the question. as long as the asura don’t go for the whole world domination thing. waypoints and gates are too much of an advantage for any society
I’d be all for nudity if it made sense (and it does in some cases i guess?) but it would create too many problems for the game and the company so it’s probably not worthy
and yeah, less dancing elves on tables (not that i’d say no to that if it happened to me in rl, but…)
i agree 100% ..not having a second set of weapons available in combat i can understand, the 4 attunements already give eles a wide range of available skills… but i want my free space :/
i wouldn’t say engineers are quite there yet though (even if you only use kits)
but yeah, limit weapon swapping to out-of-combat if you must, we need those extra weapon slots
of course knowing the asura, that trombone probably is a multidimensional mellodic transmutator with intra-fractal synchronisation (MMT-IFS 5000, pattent pending)
but yeah, back on topic. some weapons and races would benefit from alternate sheath positions
…and now i got the mental image of an Asura marching into battle with a war-trombone
ok, i’ll give you that… unless your warhorn is a trombone, it would be pointless to have it on your back and not on the belt/hip… but most other weapons would actually look better imo
as long as the effect is subtle, i’d like that very much… when i’m swinging around a sword with 20% chances of bursting into flame, i want at least a faint orange/red glow somewhere along the blade or even an appropriate glowing engraving
but yeah, keyword here being "subtle’
pretty much all weapons should be strapped on the back, unless you are wearing a (visible) backpack or something to that effect
i’m with Oglaf and Cactuar…
while this is relevant to you and your friends, rudysoup, it has nothing to do with the Personal Story, or even your characters from an IC point of view
Warrior and Guardian would be my first choices, but pretty much any profession can find a way to use them creatively.
as for Engineers, i always thought maces and hammers made more sense as melee weapons for them
of course my dream is that all professions can use all weapons, with different skills for each combo
+1 for linux client from me
currently playing GW2 on WINE (PlayOnLinux specifically) on Ubuntu 12.10
…more specifically on a second X server running e17, but yeah, that’s more technical than most people care about
i think the performance would be somewhat improved if the game was native (steam-powered or otherwise)
What in the heck am I reading? I’ve played GW1 since its release and it has been the only game that I’ve spent a ridiculous amount of hours on. I’ve went through just about everything and the only thing I haven’t done (and regret not doing at this point) is killing Dhuum and getting that chest.
Anyways, I really am confused about your interpretations of GW1. For starters, the way I saw it, the game was very specific in builds. You either ran a specific build or you were neglected from groups for high-end farms – period. Hell, this even applied to just about anything. It was pathetic.
The entire endgame was nothing but a drive to see who could be the richest of them all. Who had the most geared characters with the 1mil bank and 100k stored on each toon, plus the 1k+ ectos and yada-yada ambraces. That was all the motivation – loot. That’s what I hated about it. Luckily I had friends and a guild, which is pretty much the only thing making me want to sign on after completing it all.
Guild Wars 2 took what I loved about GW1, the environment and sense of adventure! The exploration and discovery! Yes! Even after getting 100% map completion, the game is so kitten big that going back to areas I haven’t been in awhile still brings that sense of adventure. It’s so lively and beautiful, it’s far from getting old.
Then again, I don’t play just for loot… so I guess my opinion is irrelevant. =P Come on peeps, where’s your sense of adventure? Didn’t you ever have those childhood days where you could get completely lost in games like ‘The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time’ or some FFVII? Just by comparison on graphics and content, GW2 is enormous and yet you fly by it without batting an eyelash.
pretty much on the same boat here… while i DO think GW2 has issues (not even counting bugs among them) it simply is fun to explore the world they created (enjoying the rest of the content along the way and helping others that require assistance)
i do hope they had more titles for us though (i miss Cartographer and i never gave up on that Legendary Defender of Ascalon)
i could have sworn i have used “preview” in TP, even if just for stuff my char could use… could be mistaken though, i’ve seen that complain too many times for everyone else to be wrong
huh..
even though my keyboard sometimes betrays me, JPs are among the most fun aspects of this game. the rewards are not always up to par, but when my Sylvari ranger first completed Morgan’s Leap and got some loot AND a pet spider for his trouble, the feeling was awesome…
just as awesome was the extended vista+jp combo in the middle of a priori/dredge siege (i think in Dredgehaunt), especially since said Sylvari is of the priori. the reward at the end didn’t really matter, though it would be nice if i got something i could even use profession-wise (no, heavy armour is definitely not for rangers)
EDIT: I absolutely LOATHE time-based JPs however, with vanishing platforms and the like. the game puts my computer to strain as it is, even minor lagging is enough to make me fail the puzzle
as far as probability goes, I’d say any of the Racial Sympathy choices has next to zero chances of ever becoming playable, unless they completely change that part of the game.
I doubt we’ll ever see playable Skritt, Grawl, Hylek, Ogres or Quaggan
and that’s fine, because i don’t think that’s what this thread is about
regarding Mira, I was just watching the gf play her Norn Ranger, and a wounded Mira is in the Home instance, despite the fact the character in question just hit level 15 and has only been to the areas adjuscent to the Foothills.
is it possible that this happened because she was in the same party as a char who has probably gone through Claw Island?
you know Gaudrath… that would indeed make for an awesome final fight against Zhaitan. now i wish they went that way with it :/
given what we know of the EDs, Jormag is the only one that shows “active” intelligence, seducing people left and right with promises of power and conquest. unless the other EDs display similar, the Sons of Svanir may just consider them “dragons” instead of Dragons
for a more subtle take on the Priori, Blue Tint works
what exactly are the vigil colours though? seem kinda brown-ish, but there are too many variations
yesterday my main char killed Zhaitan (first time for me) and given how much I like Trahearne (I don’t) and all the people raving about him in the forums (mostly for good reason) I made sure to notice how people reacted to the whole thing in the aftermath celebrations
…i have to say it did not go quite as expected. the whole thing actually made me feel as if my char was in fact treated as the hero of the story. from the lowest npc soldier/guard, to members of Destiny’s Edge and Marshal Saladbowl Carrier himself, all the credit was given to my character.
was it always that way or is it something they fixed?
during one sylvari quest you have to hold Risen back while some chick prepares the turret seeds. that’s one of the two ways you get plant turrets in the game, the other being Take Root
the Pale Tree blossoms in waves and each new wave is clearly not as limited in numbers as the Firstborn were. new Sylvari (humanoid or canine) seem to be created constantly, though learning the exact rate would be nice
Tybalt can’t become Risen because of what Mander said, Sieran can’t become Risen because she’s Sylvari and Forgal can’t become Risen because he’d just stare corruption off of himself
in short, it’s all an attempt to freak you out
polearm using heavy armour class (to complete the 3×3)? yes please …not sure about the armour angle though
I like the idea of a new bow, or even letting rangers use rifles . like your suggested skill spread too… will probably need balancing, but it seems fun
I always try to rp when playing, unless i’m with an “all-business” group, like in dungeons… even then, my main is a wisecracking sylvari so the /s comments are meant to be taken ic
i try not to break character even when playing spider-man to get to “that last vista” on the map, or when charging amidst the risen priestesses of lyssa to reach the skill point and commune with it before they gank me (thanks wolf for the fear howl and aggro magnet)
most of the time, people react in at least partly-rp-ish ways
I don’t care how many new Races or Professions are added in the game, as long as the number matches. i just want to play one char per race, each with different profession, without having to skip any
Did anyone ever try it with a dungeon run with everyone being hybrid and no expert role? That is, everyone DPSs, everyone watches out for themselves and everyone else, everyone pulls the aggro off comrades who need help, and everyone heals when they need it.
that’s how things usually happen whenever i group with others, either in party (mostly for dungeons) or in passing (out exploring)
most of the time i don’t even know what class someone is till they use a signature move or trait. i don’t care if you are guardian, warrior or mesmer.. .the question is, can you add something to the group? if yes, you can be a tap dancing moa bird for all i care
i wouldn’t say that is corruption as much as madness, shock and most likely a healthy dose of PTSD for the poor sylvari in question
the Stag does appear in the home instance, but it doesn’t even get a “Greet” bubble
Trahearne would be salvageable (pun intended) as a Marshal if he was not as inept when it comes to combat (perhaps the game’s fault more than his) and tactics.
other than his knowledge of Risen related stuff and Orrian history, he has nothing to offer to the Pact and those are things he could easily offer as an advisor. it would make much more sense for Destiny’s Edge to actually lead the Pact.
when he takes credit for stuff we did however… he crosses the line
i have a male norn mesmer as well, Raven shaman and all
that’s not the only case where NPCs forget you… remember the two Sylvari chicks from the mirror storyline? nope, you never helped them, it was all big marshal T, you never went to Orr with them while Trahearne was sitting on his kitten next to the Pale Tree
not to mention all the NPCs in various spots that forget your Race or even which Faction you joined… every time my main sees a Priori explorer, he wonders if they finally got the memo about him joining
and I think I know why the gods have been silent… there is a very good chance Dhuum showed up again, so the gods all got ready to face the new threat, each in their shiny new armour and whatnot
…and then Kormir pulled a Leeroy
the profession that seems to fit my playstyle most is Ranger… has been since GW1, but now they make it viable for melee as well, something I could never do in GW1 (don’t even remember if rangers could go melee… i should log in again to check)
a toggle for pets would be nice, yeah… without being triggered by damage like the stow function
that said, limp and all, my pet has saved my ranger more times than i can count
ugh, enough with the “holy trinity of mmo” …seriously guys. my company’s name has “trinity” in it and i’m seriously considering changing it now.
as Kaiyanwan said, all the tools are there if you want to play trinity, use them
i’d say it’s a little of column A and a little of column B. technically, Lion’s Arch is still Krytan territory and should fall under the juristiction of the queen, currently however the city is quite autonomous and is ruled by the Captains Council.
in the Human Noble personal story, a resident of Lion’s Arch states that the queen has no authority over him, but he will gladly testify in favour of our side if summoned properly. this indicates that the separation between Kryta and LA is at the very least semi-official.
It makes sense for Jennah to treat them as allies instead of subjects right now, whether or not there is a plan to violently or peacefully “reattach” Lion’s Arch to the Krytan kingdom once the threat of the Elder Dragons is gone.
regarding Lionguard however… they serve Lion’s Arch. right now this means following whatever the CC orders them to do, while perhaps aiding Krytans and others as is convenient.
completely different experiences for different players it seems… i found that some professions can be quite durable even against multiple opponents several levels higher, all it takes is the right weapon/skill combo
hell, with my ranger i solo-ed whole battles while eating a sandwich (granted, pet had to be switched in and out a few times)
huh… you learn new stuff every day… apparently GW2 PvE is horrible and needs to change. also Trinity needs to “come back”. yeah.
No.
granted, the charr and human (to a lesser extent) steampunk-ish technology of an engineer is relatively primitive compared to asuran magitech, i find that it suits the asura however, simply due to their racial/cultural predisposition for tinkering with stuff
just adding my voice to those saying Trahearne.. well, no way to say it politely, he sucks :P
my main is a Sylvari and he wanted nothing more than to kick Trahearne off the airship right into Zhaitan’s lap
he needs to turn into a villain, or become a permanent fixure of Orr to restore the land. at least in that case, he’ll have done something worthy of respect
I’d say Kodan too, but they are kind of redundant with the Norn around
Disclaimer: Sorry if there has already been a topic like this, a quick search revealed nada.
A couple of days ago I read a thread in this forum regarding the validity of norn thieves. This, sparked a conversation between my gf and I, regarding races and professions. We both agree that any race has a number of valid IC reasons to be any profession, but some races just “click” better with certain professions. We decided to pick 2 professions for each race (with a third as runner up), then pick 2+1 races for each profession. Our list is the following:
Race and Professions:
Profession and Races:
The choices above were based on feel, mood, theme and lore. I’m very curious to see how you guys match the Races and Professions
i’m confused now… I thought Grenth’s familial ties to Dwayna was known even in GW1 …and from every piece of lore I have seen, it’s not a battle between “good” and “evil” or anything like that. Grenth is largely a benevolent god (still not quite clear why he allows undead and if a possible return by Dhuum would stop Zhaitan) and Dwayna obviously is one as well.
interesting discussion so far… nobody asked, but here are my thoughts on the matter:
1. Regarding the Risen: it would make no sense for them to just drop (really) dead the second Zhaitan was killed. their continued existence after (whatever “after” means for you) he is gone, is perfectly acceptable lore-wise.
2. Regarding the identity of the Commander: yes, it IS in fact a contradiction if one takes things at face value, one that could actually be avoided. when I play the personal quests (either as protagonist or as guest) and major events, I look at it this way:
there is only one timeline. things start when you are born (for sylvari) or “gratuate” (for the rest), you run around helping folk, uncovering secrets, exploring, while also tagging along the kids from Destiny’s Edge. finally, your merry band of do-gooders goes to smack Zhaitan to oblivion… and you go back to the world to clean up the remaining mess (unless you head for some WvW fun in the Mists).
so, who is the Commander? well, everyone and nobody. all PCs are of equal rank within the Pact, with whoever is better suited taking point (being protagonist) at each moment. Personal Storylines run parallel and there is nothing to say that the PCs didn’t bring some friends along for them.
same here, can’t login to the game… had similar issues during Lost Shores, but i sort of expected that due to the load, not sure if related
EDIT: to anyone asking if this is a regional thing, doubtful… i’m in Greece. hope it is fixed in 3h when i wake up
and just for the record, running the game under Ubuntu 12.10, in Win7-WINE
