Perhaps the only RP-oriented guild on the server
Main Character: Farathnor (sylvari ranger) 1 of 22
No race is perfect in the GW2 universe. Even the sylvari that seem to be all noble and stuff at first glance have their darker side …and that’s without even falling into Nightmare.
bump from me
something has to be done about the hobosacks and cultural skins seem to be the best idea so far
I’m fairly sure there is an Ash legion shield. My gf’s engineer got all 3 legion shields from hearts in the charr starting zone.
As others said, guardians and warriors already cover that niche. I still think it’d be better if engineers were heavy and we got a new medium armour profession instead
Not commenting on your suggestions for the fight itself, but why would Trahearne be there? His Wyld Hunt was to cleanse Orr and that takes place shortly before the fight with Zhaitan. By the time Destiny’s Edge and the PCs go against the elder dragon, Trahearne has his hands full making sure the cleansing is going as planned.
they really should bring the quiver back… or they should make profession-specific back items for all , restricted only by looks rather than function.
so far i’ve seen the quiver for rangers (archers in general, really) the slickpack for engineers and the antitoxin injector (again for engineers, maybe more elixirr based)
did i miss any?
almost wish they could switch the LB skills between rangers and warriors, then at least we’d have something that can do some damage
Just adding my voice to those saying “job well done”. Watching the tower go boom was all kinds of awesome and there’s still fallout to deal with throughout kessex hills.
no skin off my back, directly at least, though i have to admit that this was the only flame-themed armour skin that made sense even remotely
the gf on the other hand… she was about to get this for her human elementalist, pretty much because it looked like the T3 cultural. had to listen to her whine about this for about an hour…
the golems costing money is annoying, true… not as annoying as not having a golem at the top though
i was lucky enough to find my “missing” obelisk in Caledon, when i was nearby for an offshoot event. i know for a fact that i had already transcribed it yesterday, but i am not complaining since i finally managed to finish the ToN meta
Smooth Penguin, some people don’t have the time needed to go over each obelisk again. if there was a checklist in the achievement description, it would save us all a lot of trouble, even if the location of each obelisk was revealed -after- you had transcribed it
stuck at 23/24 here too… and yeah, got interrupted during one of them. apparently redoing the skittenly caused it to be marked as completed but didn’t increase the counter
given where some of these shards are, it’s very annoying
i like the mechanic. the implementation could be improved, but i enjoyed it thoroughly when i impaled toxic guard #234 with a scarecrow finisher
and as a bonus, i got the halloween stomp achievement too!
on topic: i got the feeling they are lovers too. if they’re not, kasmeer most likely wants them to be
off topic: i don’t think one can put a sexuality label on sylvari, at least not in the way it would work for a rl human
@AndrewSX:
far be it from me to defend Scarlet, but unless i remember her story wrong, she studied engineering in all three colleges and she thinks she saw the Eternal Alchemy
studying three different approaches to the same field and being a few leaves short of a salad is not exactly lore-breaking. it is however a bit lore-stretching in the case of the three colleges accepting her even for a single field. on the other hand… asuras do have quite the ego. each college probably did it to outdo the ones before
that said, while scarlet might have been a somewhat interest concept, the execution so far has been lackluster
pretty much what Dustfinger said, but if you want a rough match-up between professions and spirits, this is what I came up back when I designed my characters (I don’t fully remember the reasons for each match)
Bear: Elementalist, Guardian
Raven: Engineer, Necromancer
Snow Leopard: Mesmer, Thief
Wolf: Ranger, Warrior
of all the theories that have graced this forum, i think this may be the one i like the most… (well, this and the one about “dragon” just being short for “dragon-like entity”)
some nice suggestions there. on the Claustrophobia thing… well, all i’ll say is that i have never been creeped out more in my life than the first time i dived into the uncharted waters surrounding Orr and found the abyss staring back at me
mounts? not really needed, would end up looking rather silly
if they add a new mini-game (aka activity) involving those sexy charr vehicles however… i’m all for it
on the 100 skritt vs 100 asura bit, i agree with Tuomir. 100 skritt may or may not be smarter than any individual asura (and most likely less than 100 of them together) but they are far more likely to put that brainpower to use on a common goal and path to it, while the asura will most likely let their egos get the better of them
the possible clipping issues alone are enough for me to say we don’t really need them
why? one of my most memorable moments in gw2 was partying with an enemy thief in order to finish one of the jumping puzzles.
as soon as we were done, we bowed to each other, saluted… then went back to trying to kill one another with extreme prejudice
yeah, an option for colourblind people would be nice, but i use tabs to keep chat clean. right now i have Map, Combat, Tactical (for parties, squads, teams, whatnot) and Limited (guild/whisper)
thinking of adding one just for /s and emotes though
just putting this out there. if Scarlet is narcissistic, then any failures are not her fault and they are part of a huge conspiracy that proves she is right and her work is even more important than she believed till now
i’ve met people like that in real life. not cool Dave, not cool
I was just invited into [Lore] (after this thread started, mind you) and it’s a good thing to know there is some place I can go to when something lore-related is needed. Thanks for the invitation guys
@StevenMah
Two nights ago I was part of a “casual” PUG that did the new Aetherblade path of TA (if memory serves, all but me were inexperienced in it). We ended up clearing the dungeon, getting most of the achievements with relative ease (and far quicker than any of the “serious” groups i’d joined before …oh yeah, it took care of my dailies too). During the run we had the time to watch cutscenes (not that you can avoid them) discuss strategy and just joke around, sometimes IC and other times OoC. It was by far the most fun I ever had in GW2 and by the end of the run the running joke was “are we sure we’re casual?”
In the end, we had fun, got our rewards, made some money and enjoyed the game the way (I think) the game was meant to be enjoyed. Sometimes you just have to stop and smell the flowers I suppose
The worst part is that what you ask for is already in the game, at least in the case of sylvari. Several generic sylvari NPCs have custom armour that looks quite unique (and is probably a leftover from their original concept, before the more-plant-like idea took root)
yes please, we need more JPs! no time-based vanishng stuff though, those suck
as a sidenote: vizier and tribulation have been the two most memorable and fun for me
there was a thread about the Sons of Svanir. can’t find it now but the basic idea was that while they abide by hoelbrak’s rules, it is in norn culture to tolerate them
ghostbore technology just multiplies the time necessary for ghosts to reform. recently watched the relevant PS parts
girlfriend is going to kill me if i don’t ask
where is that in game? (even if not available, that blows out of the water pretty much every piece of light armour they have released so far)
Next class will probably be a heavy armour class to balance out the rest.
Currently:
2 Heavy
3 Medium
3 Light
pretty much this, though if you ask me Engineer should be a heavy profession and a new medium profession should be added (maybe even a samurai-like one, especially if the tengu become playable)
a real lost opportunity there… rather disappointing
almost wish i knew of them before i helped found a guild
I can’t really say those pics showed me exactly how “bad” and “ugly” the new armour sets are. maybe if i actually see them in game i’ll recoil in fear, but just from those pics they look pretty ascended to me
it does however raise an interesting question… are we ever going to get ascended level armour from dungeons or cultural armoursmiths? i think we should (cultural especially)
when trying to decide which legendary i wanted for my ranger, Bolt was my final choice precisely because of its appearance and particle effects (and because rangers can’t use rifles yet). while the sword could use a couple of tweaks here and there, it’s a far cry from being ugly
not quite true Ellisande, the Nightmare Court wants to free both the “Dreamer” sylvari AND the Pale Tree from Ventari’s teachings, something they perceive as forced on them and a perversion of their true nature.
to do so, they use pain, suffering, anguish, shock and awe, basically whatever kicks Dreamers out of their comfort zone and creates bad experiences (and the memories that go with them) if that means walking around wearing someone’s skinsuit, so be it
the only times any of my higher level chars (especially my 80 ranger) has been downed in a low level zone, was when i was distracted arranging the inventory, dragged afk by rl stuff or wasn’t paying attention to what i was doing… so, i’m forced to say l2p
a server for us RP-ers, huh? …yeah, where do i sign? i think i’d probably end up guesting there most of the time, or guesting in my current server for guildies
i do think it is a US guild, but i could be wrong. either way, they’re a good bet if you’re looking for lore-savvy people
depends entirely on how you define that. as far as academic/arcane/historical knowledge goes, Priori wins hands down, no questions asked
on the other hand, the Order has several spies within the Priori and sometimes steals/copies their discoveries, plus they have had their hand in the political reality of the world for centuries now, so some history they know from personal involvement
let’s see, i have chars in all orders, so… let’s give this a go:
Durmand Priori: explorers, archaeologists, scholars… your run of the mill bookworms, with a few mad scientists and indiana jones/lara croft types tossed in for good measure. generally willing to unearth old knowledge despite the risks, generally the ones coming up with new ideas. if memory serves, they were founded by Durmand, a human, between GW1 and GW2
Order of Whispers: spymasters, keepers of ancient secrets, hidden defenders of the world, puppet masters. the oldest of the orders and the one most versed in politics and the “everyday” world of Tyria (not just the continent). Founded a long long time ago, on Elona, by humans, in order to hold back the forces of darkness
The Vigil: with as many tacticians and paladins as they have brutes and cannon fodder, they are an army that might even rival one of the charr legions in might (i’m sure others will correct my assumption if incorrect). they generally prefer the direct approach and the only order to be founded by a Charr, after her warband was Branded by Glint’s former boss
same happening here for both me and the gf. Europeans on NA server as well
partying works, but only the other person sees it normally. party chat still works as expected, but no speech bubbles for us
oh yeah, forgot to mention. i’m running GW2 with the following configuration:
1st gen i7, a GTX295 nvidia card, 6gb of ram, highest settings (except for culling, set to lowest) @ 1680×1050, running WINE 1.7.2 in three separate prefixes (normal for me, normal for the gf and patched for both when we need to use the BLTP)
we’re lucky to get 45fps on the char select screen and 20 in game
slight corrections:
Ascalon: what the others said, save for Ebonhawke, the last bastion of humanity there
Kryta: what the others said, but the old capital of Lion’s Arch was destroyed and rebuilt as a neutral city-state outside of human influence
where can one see the status of servers? and for that matter, where can one see which server is considered a RP one?
it’s been a while since i’ve played Nightfall, but somehow i don’t see (pun intended) Kormir approving of such a practice, not that her followers/priesthood would necessarily know that
still playing GW2 on linux under WINE, although i switched from Ubuntu to Fedora thanks to Canonical’s decision to practically fork the desktop. With Valve releasing their Steambox and pressuring Nvidia (well, not just them, but they did have a hand in it i bet) into release documentation for their drivers gaming in linux is becoming easier and easier.
now is a good time for a native linux GW2 client
Some would argue that the fact people still fiddle with GW1’s GUI means it was inadequate to begin with. In principle, whether it is a website, an application, a whole desktop environment or a game, as is the case here, the GUI must be “invisible” as an entity on its own, just there to provide specific functionality. Also, usually less is more, the more minimal the GUI is, the better it does what it should.
With that in mind, yes… I would very much like to change the GUI around. I went from a 1920×1200 to a 1680×1050 (and soon to 2x that) screen and the way the GUI was (even at small) just doesn’t work that well for the new setup.
