Main Character: Farathnor (sylvari ranger) 1 of 22
If you’re talking about Town Clothes, speak to one of the Black Lion traders. they’ll fix you up. (It sucks what they did with them, but there it is)
If, however, you lost armour skins and outfits, that’s most likely a bug and you should send a ticket.
Fun stuff… grab a drink and come join the club
I would be quite interested to know if you solved the issue and how. This keeps happening to me now.
Edit: after downloading the whole game again, it’s still crashing whenever i try to escape the character selection screen, no matter which map it is loading. At least the error message now is different…
“NvAPI_Mosaic_GetDisplayViewportsByResolution failed with -1”

Norn care about their legend, not necessarily strength/weakness. If a norn thinks they can make a legend by having the most impressive and/or rare outfits, you can be sure they’ll hunt down any and all clothes that can help them achieve that goal.
I’d say the same for most greatswords, swords and pistols, actually. I understand it’s generally nice for a weapon to be visible even on an asura, but some of those designs are… meh
Same thing happens to me constantly now… and I have more than enough memory for the game, it worked fine till yesterday
Edit: trying to see if running the game with -repair will solve the issue…
Edit some more: …nope. a resounding nope, in fact
(edited by smekras.8203)
All my norn chars have their respective transform equipped. In some cases, it is used to switch things up in the heat of combat, in others it just compliments the skillset used.
Gotta agree on the sylvari summons and the human “avatars” though. Seen them used rarely and mostly for flavour, not actual utility.
Not really a question for me. Already have written one char for each race/profession combo, with half of them realised in game so far, so I’ll simply end up having five revenants.
not sure when it was added precisely, but i remember getting char slots pretty early on…
I concur. as long as pre-orders lead to lower quality in games, we should be done with them.
there have been hints of the white mantle being around since launch actually, mostly in the human lands, so yeah… chances are it’s mursaat
I remember reading the current limit is 48 slots per account, which is enough to have one per race per profession. still, I’d rather have HoT come with 1 or 2 free slots
All in all, the last couple of patches left me with something of a mixed aftertaste…
On the positive side of things, the story progressed some and more was revealed about Caithe (and why she may have taken the egg) as well as the past of all sylvari. New areas, new jumping puzzle, new loot, fun stuff.
Playing as Caithe was a mixed bag in itself. While I DO enjoy trying a different build every now and then (I have 20 chars as it is), I was mildly annoyed that GW2 departed from the honoured GW1 tradition of NPCs having skills accessible to players.
What nearly ruined the experience for me, however, was the lore inconsistencies introduced and the fact I was not allowed to play my own character. Ok, so Caithe has been carrying an idiot ball twice the size of an asura’s ego (sorry, the in-love excuse only explains so much) but why the hell did my character act the way he did when I was NOT playing as Caithe?
…it’s almost as if the game is a RPG only in the most superficial sense…
Vayne, I believe I did specifically say I have a problem with the changes in levelgating regarding some things, not that they were levelgated at all (read my second post for it). But you conveniently ignored that to defend Anet… as usual.
I would prefer having a greyed-out list of available recipes in the crafting interface so that we know if there is a recipe we have not unlocked yet.
I should have used “levelgating” instead of timegating… and i refer to anything from using vistas/skillpoints/whatever to the major shift in when and how things like weapon swap, profession mechanics and skill slots become available

I’ve been playing the game since about a couple of months after launch (if not earlier) and i have created about 25 chars for it, though the first 7 were deleted once I “mapped” the game out and saw what it had to offer (had to redesign them cause i am a perfectionist and I think makeover kits were not available, among other things). I still lament the loss of karma and unique skins (no account wallet or wardrobe back then) but not the time spent exploring the game’s world and mechanics.
Fast forward to now, in the aftermath of the NPE changes. I created my 18th character, an asura ranger, then used a 20-scroll to bump him up a few levels. Doing so, got me stuck right in the middle of the NPE, without the advantage of the speedier leveling from 1 to 15 and all the rewards it offers.
Once that char hit 35 and I got him a set of cultural armour, I decided to make a chain of throwaway characters to unlock some of the starting gear that was still locked in my wardrobe. With the last of them, I decided to not delete outright but actually play a bit to see what the NPE was meant to be like for a brand new character/player.
What follows is a rough compilation of my thoughts on the changes brought by the latest feature patch (as well as two bits regarding the april one). I will not address known (to me) bugs like goggles not working or PS chapters being out of order, just the stuff that -presumably- works as intended:
The awesome:
The good:
The indifferent:
The bad:
The abysmal:
…and still no Guild Halls. Ah well, we’ll get them eventually (I’m an optimist, can’t you tell?)…
EDIT: fixed the error spotted below, added one major change I forgot
(edited by smekras.8203)
It would require some map tweaking around Vistas and Jumping Puzzles, but I fully support slippery ice.
Things might get a tad trickier if they decide to add proper convection (in regards to heat transfer) though…
Finished the encounter on my first try with my sylvari ranger. Mixed exotic gear, sword/axe + longbow, full signets + spirit fire wolf, hawk and lynx as pets. Took me about ten minutes, mostly due to missing one or two dodges and bumping into an orb of fiery doom once or twice.
And I had the game on mute, as I was listening to a debate on youtube at the time. So yeah…
yup, that was why i brought them up. canon-wise, all player sylvari are connected to the Pale Tree and the Dream
The ragtag squad seemed fairly competent for my run too, they dealt with the minor threats while we players tackled the big problems.
so far i’m inclined to agree with Invictus. the sylvari that have gone nuts (corrupted?) have been ones that were in proximity with mordy (or at least the maguuma wastes area) AND isolated from the pale tree.
due to design or omission, player sylvari are not feeling any bad influence during their time there, at least not to the point of being affected
I went through the new map and story last night, with a new guildie (we’re an rp-oriented guild). I went in with my main, a sylvari ranger of the durmand priori, who is the one that has experienced the first season.
I have to admit I was pretty impressed by what I experienced. I don’t think the first chapter was without flaws, but I think anet has finally got their mojo back and better things are ahead.
My main gripe with the living journal? it doesn’t give access to Season 1 chapters. that’s all.
DISCLAIMER 1: The change suggested in the following post is meant for PvE only. Any of the three areas of the game that belong in the Mists, are not considered PvE for the purpose of this post and should not be affected in any way.
DISCLAIMER 2: I searched the forums for a similar topic but google did not ping anything similar, so here it is. If there is an appropriate thread, move the discussion there.
As they are now, racial skills are rarely chosen by players because they were designed to be sub-par compared to the profession skills and when a racial skill is chosen, it is mostly done by sacrificing a skill that would be more beneficial.
What I suggest is that the racial skills are treated like the secondary skills present in the various professions, “occupying” the quick slots from F5 to F10. This will allow them to be always present if unlocked by the player, freeing the utility slots to be used by the normal profession skills.
or they could just change the current system to cost a charge only when first using a skin on a specific item and have all subsequent uses of the skin -on that item- free of charge
don’t worry, you’ll come back as a soulbound blue item your profession can’t use
in-game lore codex? …that kind of reminds me of Dragon Age…
which is actually a good thing. make it happen
Ooooh, i like this one, i remember having it in some other MMOs and it did help quite a bit with immersion.
At the very least, it will make it easier for me to keep my chars’ bios straight …it’s kinda getting hard with 17 down and 23 to come.
I’m sure they can find some way to make Warriors stand out, even if every profession can use any weapon in the end.
Staves as melee weapons and spears on land are my first two picks for new additions.
roughly speaking? about 15 euros per month since launch. most of it went to buy char slots for me and the gf, a set of infinite tools, bank expansion and some skins she wanted for her account
…wow …just wow. after all the comments and criticisms on the game in general and the latest patch in particular, this is what they choose to do?
stupid move. and i was hoping to get some of those skins as soon as i had the tickets for them. i guess people like me are not the intended market for them though, only those that will spend gems to risk the BLC RNG
I’m with videoboy on this one… get rid of the kits, give us a NPC we can pay for changes. it makes sense for RP-ers as well as the rest of you.
New professions are unlikely, but many of us still hope they eventually add a third Soldier-class profession.
As for races, at least tengu are a MUST.
Pretty much that. I’d love to have a third Soldier option, simply because I am OCD-ish about such things (though as others said I have no clue what niche it would fill) but it is not really necessary.
I’d also like to see the tengu as a playable option in the future, even though the 40 race/profession combinations we currently have will keep me busy for a while longer. I currently only have 17 of my 40 written characters.
I suppose i should rephrase my comment then. we have all the options available, from what is available for each armour weight in game, as in… no profession is barred from any armour available to its general type (Scholar, Explorer, Soldier)
I do agree with you that we could use more options and more varied looks.
i love that idea… would make some of the headgear skins all the more useful
…I don’t think “Living World” is supposed to be the title in the same way “Prophecies” was. that looked more like a simple logo for the site recounting the living story so far
why make it exclusive anything? i say give us everything but take from us nothing.
make all skins available through pvp, pve or wvwvw
I wish there was an option to hide from the gemstore stuff you have already bought and are no longer applicable to you. The deluxe edition upgrade is one such item.
I’m with Evans on this one. There is no real need for profession-specific skins. We have all the options available to pick and choose precisely how we want our characters to look like (though i have to admit, I’m surprised hoods have not caught on with sylvari in their cultural gear).
i’d love that. nothing like going out of your way to help someone only to have them go poof at the last moment
Unfortunately i have to agree with darth lama. regarding transmutation costs and trait gain rate …with one minor objection
it’s not that hot for level 80s either.
I hope they do keep and enhance underwater combat, if for no other reason than for the fact i think Kraitskin is one of the few legendaries that doesn’t look bad.
The most succinct answer is what Seabreeze said but pretty much everything said above is true. When people ask me why I have multiple characters of the same profession, I point out that each of them is unique in both personality and build (down to what weapons, traits and skills they prefer).
I did not have a chance to test my RP luck since the megaserver rollout but I personally find people who mock RP-ers slightly less annoying than RP-ers that completely ignore chunks of the setting the game presents. “Tweaking” the fact you’re the only Commander of the Pact is one thing, saying you’re the lovechild of Rytlock and Eir who became a cyborg Asura that went back in time to lord over the humans of ancient Elona is not.
I like that idea
and it makes sense for both RP-ers and the rest
I would like saved sets of looks that you can switch to easily. I would like to change my looks with my mood or what I’m doing with out the barrier of using up charges or having to recreate a look I had. I like Lotro’s system of having sets that you switch between.
I would be ok with having to transmute the first time you make your look but after that I would like to freely switch between the looks.
haven’t played LotRO so i can’t comment on that but i am all for the second suggestion. it would pretty much disperse all my objections about the wardrobe
GW2 is not without its shortcomings (and, mind you, some of them are -really- bad) but what it does well, it does -really- well.
so far it’s 65%-35% in favour for me, hopefully it will only get better.
have to admit though… i do not feel very optimistic about the things i do not like.
same problem here, just happened
edit: seems to have unlocked the cinematic again if i go back near the entrance of the instance, which resets the “speak to gixx” objective
(edited by smekras.8203)
want that as well. nothing like a poorly thought out or accidental guild name with tons of influence on it
I think there should be enough room to change the drop down menu into 4 icons.
Save the mice, one less click a day!
no idea why it isn’t like that already
i’d be surprised if it uses more than 1, really…
