removing the renown hearts would damage the game, in my opinion

not that I have seen, it usually just takes whatever colours your previous armour piece had, unless it has an additional colour slot (in which case, it probably does what you say). is there any way to apply Dye Remover?

that’s because Charr are largely pragmatic. they understand their ancestors simply did what they thought had to be done, using the means at their disposal.

as to why I don’t have a Charr… well, i’m getting there, just need to buy a few more char slots. got 8 of them planned, all with full bio and stuff. simply a matter of logistics

I know you can buy more slots, the problem is that the game only allows you to see 7 of them per “page” which is one too few even if you only have one char per profession.

A shame we can’t even mod details like that really…

not sure i’d go that far, but i certainly need more room for chars in the character selection screen. i think i had made a thread about it back in the day but never found the time to do that mockup i wanted… hmmm…

Resurrecting this thread since it is needed once more. Does anyone have the colour schemes of the various groups in Tyria? Not just the Orders, but as many of the smaller ones as possible. Specific dyes will be more than welcome of course.

it already is in the daily roster, or did they remove it?

i’ve yet to see someone run past a downed player…

I’d actually enjoy seeing how my characters handle the places i visit without me controlling them directly. Having them as henchmen in dungeons would be quite entertaining

pretty much yeah. while the option is not technically available, that’s how my gf and i play our ascalonian chars. after all they have seen, they believe in a united human kingdom however, even though they want ascalon restored as much as possible

They have not, it is just rather limited as to who gets the option to pick their character’s lineage.

If you go the “dead sister” way on personal story, Logan asks you for your family’s history. There, you get the option between Krytan, Canthan, Elonan and Ascalonian (no option for those rare Orrian families out there).

What they do -not- offer however, and I think they should, is for the character to have been born in either Lion’s Arch or Ebonhawke and growing up there before moving to DR for whatever reason.

Yes please… now if they added that for skins that you bought from the gemstone as well… might even make me buy more of those.

Pretty much what Tikky said. Player Characters should have been part of an elite force (within the larger one that is the Pact) that was formed to battle Zhaitan and the rest of the Elder Dragons. trying to make each PC unique and as if they were the only hero of the story failed on so many levels it’s not even funny.

haven’t the devs said that Zhaitan is really dead?

It is quite odd that she’s always barefoot, isn’kitten …is there some explanation for this in the books? I have not read them yet

As far as I know, they have specifically said the Dervish won’t be coming back, as the profession is too tied to the human gods. I have, however, found that you can get some of the feel of the Dervish (at least aesthetically) by using a staff as a Necromancer.

Sieran was just adorkable and is my favourite mentor (by a sliver), some however find her obnoxious.
Forgal is just awesome and kitten, though some find him stereotypical

First of all, nothing wrong with walls of text, sometimes they are absolutely necessary. You’ve obviously given this a lot of thought and for that alone, the effort is appreciated. I am writing this as I am reading through the post and will try to offer an alternate take on some of the suggestions you make. As a whole, I agree with you that the personal story needs reworking.

Issue 1: Trahearne’s Story
1. a) What you are suggesting would make perfect sense, save for one minor issue. Despite what the Personal Story may have us think (and I have issues with that in general) our character is not a unique snowflake, it’s just one of the many champions that arose to fight the Elder Dragons. There has to be a neutral party leading the war effort, so that future lore can safely deal with the events that took place. Destiny’s Edge as a group would work quite nicely, they are already respected in their cultures and known throughout Tyria.
1. b) Having the Orders suggest different ways to tackle problems is entirely desirable, no issues there and it would actually show just what each of them brings to the Pact, which… brings us to point number 2.
2. The Pact was formed for a specific purpose, dealing with the Elder Dragons. It stands to reason, that once, if ever, the Dragons are gone, the Pact will be deployed to deal with global threats of the same scale, which any individual Order would be unable to counter on their own. At no point in the Personal Story did I get the feeling the Orders were disbanded after the Pact was created.
3. Yes, yes, yes. No arguments there whatsoever. Trahearne would work beautifully as an expert in all things Orrian and/or Risen. He should be the Pact’s go-to guy for any information that can help.
4. A minor change in dialogue, but quite needed, if just to set the tone.

Issue 2: Disconnected Arcs
1. As much as I’d like to see the Order mentor come back for a final bash, I’m torn on this. I wish we had seen more of them, but I am not sure I want to risk their awesomeness by more exposure. Otherwise I agree, with the option of people from the other personal stories showing up as well, to show how interconnected the whole thing is.
2. No arguments there, would really be nice to show that.

Issue 3: Destiny’s Dungeons
No arguments whatsoever, beautifully said. I agree with every single point here.

Issue 4: Zhaitan’s Fall
Mo real arguments here either, except that we should fight Zhaitan on the ground -after- the whole airship thing (but without spamming 2).

Bonus Issue: Rewards
All sound like good ideas, no arguments here.

The change of appearance for sylvari depending on their experiences, emotions and surroundings (a combination of the above as I understood it) has been mentioned in various NPC dialogues that are in the game for at least a year now, some of it can even be found in the Grove.

I second that, would be nice to change the guild’s name without losing all the upgrades

since it is going to be abused though, perhaps the old name should be visible as well for a period of time after the change?

iFocus, you completely missed the point of what I said and i am fairly sure that it is not what the OP was saying either.

all I am arguing about is that light armour should look like light armour, medium armour like medium armour and heavy armour like heavy armour. you want heavy armour made of cloth and leather? ok, but show me why that warrior or guardian would pick that over a trusted and tried set of full plate.

on the other hand, i agree with you that there should be no limit to what type of armour or which weapons each profession can use (though i’d expect tweaks in order to make sure there are bonuses and drawbacks to each choice of armour type). rangers should be able to wear cloth, warriors should be able to don leather, no arguments there from me.

i spend tons of transmutation stones to get the armour and weapons just right for each of my 8 characters, i use specific colour schemes (based on guild, profession and order) and each piece reflects part of what the char is about. usually i keep about 10-15 slots of alternatives as well

fantasy or not, it would kinda ruin what realism there is.

on the other hand, they could make more armour skins that sort of look like the other two types but still remain firmly in one of them.

what they should do, is make skins bought from the gemstore unlocked in the character tab like some reward skins are

…Scepter, Focus, Staff, add a few teleport-like skills and weapon attacks and the Guardian is one of the most mobile classes out there (which is kinda surprising for someone walking around in full plate), with decent to good ranged and melee attacks (at least in my opinion)

both of them, if you want to get technical about it. they are destroyed so that the new one is made

If memory serves, you can get a couple from rewards (very rare, at best) but your best bet is the gemstore.

…and now that i’m done being an kitten , the answer is yes, but you need one of the blue transmutation stones to mess with level 80 items, regardless of what the other item is

Another level 80 ranger player here, using Longbow for ranged situations (mostly zergs and champs, the lag alone would kill me if i got closer), Sword/Dagger for up close and personal (including small groups) and Speargun for aquatic adventures (Piranhas are just cool).

It’s true that sometimes I do forget to dodge and/or F3 my pet out of harm’s way, most of the time however it is because I am distracted reviving people. Ranger pets can be quite squishy and that is a design flaw because I can lose half my damage output in one hit, but, more often than not, my pet (usually Wolf/Owl and Shark/Jelly) is keeping me alive far longer than I’d otherwise be.

S for U turn? thanks, but no thanks. WASD-based movement is a time honoured tradition and it works, even with minor modification across games

just putting this out there, if I am online and anyone asks for help with Arah Story Mode, 7 out of 10 times I will jump right in (the other 3 times I am just in for trading or checking something)

I’ve skimmed through the thread, giving most posts at least a passing glance, so apologies if I’m not really adding anything. I have 8 sylvari characters (one of each profession) and I’ll easily admit they can easily slide into Mary Sue territory if the writers are not careful.

On the other hand, the reason I find them quite awesome as a race is that are the perfect vessel through which one can explore what it means to be living in the world of Tyria. All the other races come with baggage that, sometimes, goes back thousands of years, with social and cultural ties that dictate their lives.

The sylvari do not have that, they only have a jumbled mass of pieced together memories, coloured heavily by emotion. They can be childlike in that they can be as naive and as cruel as kids often are, most of the time without even realising what exactly they are doing. The best part about being sylvari though? Exploration.

My first character was a sylvari ranger of the Durmand Priori, pretty much the perfect combination to explore the world of Tyria. Throughout my path to 100% map completion, from emerging from the Dream to heading into the Mists in hopes of bumping into Sieran’s spirit, I let the world of Tyria itself shape his opinions and personality.
Out of the pod, he was simply a blank slate with just an affinity for animals. but the further he got from the Pale Tree, things got darker and bloodier. At level 80, he’s a seasoned warrior that has seen enough suffering and death but never losing that child-like thirst for exploration.

In the end, the sylvari are simply a race trying to figure out who they are and where they fit in the world of Tyria… I just wish the writers did a better job at portraying that. Characters like Sieran, Gavin, Carys and Tegwen are credit to the race’s potential. Those like Trahearne and Scarlet… well, not so much, in either concept or execution.

A last note: If there is something about the Sylvari I’d like to see more, is characters that tread on the grey area between moral absolutes. We need more “noble” members of the Nightmare Court (or at least someone more subtle than the usual homicidal maniac) and more “evil” Dreamers.

it was a pain getting to some of the locations in time (entirely my fault, had forgotten i hadn’t gotten 100% map completion with the rebooted ranger) but once i managed to hit an invasion spot, it was crazy fun… and just plain crazy really.

explosions left and right, confused risen wondering why the player characters just mow them down on their way to the next pin, sad twisted clockworks getting impaled all over the place… and a ticking clock (my try managed to get Scarlet with less than 2 minutes to go, gf’s run about two hours later got her within the last 10 seconds)

well done, though a larger time window would be quite nice

not sure if it is the same issue but, for the last week or so, whenever I am in heavily populated areas my movement controls go out the window, the character starts running in circles and no matter which key I press, I see a combination of “wasd” in the chat window (usually something like “swwwwwwwww” or “wssssddddddddaaa”)

as long as chat input is active, the character just stands there but once the focus is back off? the merry-go-round begins anew. I am 99.9% certain it is not an issue with either my keyboard or mouse, since GW2 is the only application affected by this.

can we order about a dozen more of those golems? playing through that mission almost made up for losing the order mentor (not really, but almost… every kill was in their name)

the one where you attack the Mouth in its manor was another one for me… expected every step of it, but seeing the norn turn was… yeah :/

i think ANet has something against norn chicks

i could be wrong about this, but i am fairly sure the Charr Scholar (with the pet drake) found in the home instance is from the quest where the Pact is first formed and is supposed to act as marker that you are past that point (same as Mira acts as marker for Claw Island)

unfortunately, both seem to be glitched and appear even for newly made characters

It wouldn’t really make sense for it to be the Steam creatures. why would they base the Living Story on one of 3 possible options of one of the 5 possible options for a player character?

Before the reveal my guess was Jormag and Primordus being involved somehow (hadn’t found the merchant corpse yet)

no problem with crafting no longer giving xp once you hit 400, I do however have a problem with crafting NEW recipes no longer giving xp. if i figure out a combo i haven’t done before, i should get xp for it

and yeah, i’ve made my share of gold by crafting

bad mechanics can be fixed. i know that i’m having a lot more fun playing my ranger than any of my other 7 chars
