Perhaps the only RP-oriented guild on the server
Main Character: Farathnor (sylvari ranger) 1 of 22
I manage to play GW2 on WINE, with a GTX 295 (nouveau driver) running the show but, understandably, the fps are subpar (still manageable) and the environmental shaders are all messed up (which makes shiverpeaks or corrupted areas so much fun)
while Wayland is probably going to make things a lot better for me, i really hope they reconsider making a native linux client. there’s nothing i can think of that cannot be translated from Direct X to proper OpenGL
here’s to hoping valve’s involvement with linux is going to urge more companies to throw us more than a bone…
A
i enjoy LA as it is (minus the lag and all the people just standing there) but change is usually a good thing and i can’t wait to see what they do for LA v2.1
You forgot, ‘Long monologue during the Thaumanova fractal where we sit with our thumbs up our collective kitten while she exposes her latest mischievous plan and nary one of us thinks about putting a bullet in her brain case’.
killing her fractal self would have little to no impact on her outside the fractal. if i understand the mists correctly, that’s not scarlet, just a recreation of her
The line that struck me the most was when Marjory suggests the idea that the Dream was put in place more to shield the sylvari from something and when Scarlet had that barrier stripped, she saw something that spoke to her from the other side and has been speaking to her, pulling her, tempting her from the darkness [Pretty much the same language they use in the hints].
Vorpp: I surmise she was directly exposed to a part of her own psyche that had been carefully walled off. Perhaps for her own protection?
Vorpp: We’d need to do far more extensive study of the sylvari Dream before I could draw any more-detailed conclusions.
While Vorpp’s comment implies the Dream in general may be what walled off part of Ceara’s psyche, this doesn’t mean he is correct or even that the Dream is acting as a shield for the minds of all sylvari.
The Death Penalty from GW1 is one of the features i’d prefer if they remained exclusive to GW1. I still play GW1 almost daily, if only to add more HoM rewards to GW2, and I am definitely not missing that part of the game.
..at all.
yet another issue is that the dragons don’t see each other as friendly to begin with
the TP interface could use a redesign in my opinion. aside from the fonts issue, there really is no reason for almost everything else to be so “touch friendly”
reducing the item box even in half would make for a much better list and would allow twice as many items without the need for scrolling
…and to think i got on the forums to say that my resource nodes had vanished… i even went up the stairs and around looking for them, not realising they were placed all the way to the back.
what bothers me most about their placement is how it makes no kitten sense at all. the only “node” i can think of that is placed in a logical location is the krait obelisk in the sylvari home instance (and maybe in the asura one)
“Thump thump, time to jump”
when i first saw that i thought that scarlet planned to use the do-not-touch towers to somehow trigger a massive scale earthquake, or similar world-shattering chain of events. if tyria as a planet has a similar structure to earth, the fire references may simply have to do with magma instead of primordus (especially since we’re told no dragons were harmed in the making of scarlet’s story)
I tend to base my sylvaris’ skin colour on the “official” colour of each profession, or at least one close to it…
so yeah, there are definitely some of the warm colours among the 8
…that explains a few things…
i have used the merchant npc a few times in dungeon and the whole party flocked around it for the services offered… except for the last couple of times. now i understand why
yeah, “you changed it, now it sucks” …meh
This weekend I was walking to some places for the sake of it, then I entered the The Dead End in DR and I just found out that there is a new dialog among Rox, Braham, Marjory and Kasmeer and a quite enjoyable one.
thanks for reminding me… is that still there? i wanted to check the new quips out
They say that the Asurans built them and that they’re real features of the world but I prefer to think of them as just there for gameplay convenience. It removes questions about why the Pact doesn’t just waypoint straight from their headquarters to an uncontested waypoint in the Cursed Shore (Like the one outside Arah for instance).
the Pact doesn’t waypoint outside of Arah because, as others have explained in other threads, the maps are slices of time as well as space. whenever you get to that waypoint, is when it is available, not before.
sort of like how a Thief does?
sorudo… how do waypoints destroy immersion and don’t allow true RP-ing?
waypoints and asura gates are actual IC things, not some OoC convenience for the players. if you want proof of that, just listen to some NPCs or follow the offensive in the Orr maps
as a programmer, i can honestly say that claiming that they can’t fix this only proves one of two things:
1. they’re lying and are too lazy to make the changes necessary (and no idea why they were not in to begin with)
2. they suck even more than i do at designing/programming, in which case they should have never been hired by anet
not trying to be rude or insulting, but sometimes the facts speak for themselves
from what i understood, WPs cannot transfer large items/creatures, they are only meant for personal transportation. for anything bigger than a norn, you get the asura gates.
and we never really die in the game, we are simply knocked out. you can argue that as adventurers of some special status, we get a failsafe locking us to the nearest waypoint (or whichever we choose)
plenty of similar threads already, on topic however i agree with 1-3, 4 is unnecessary but could be in and 5 is a bad idea in my opinion
such an option for elementalists and engineers would be welcome, yes. as long as it only works when out of combat.
to those that’ll say it still gives them an unfair advantage, if someone has to go out of combat to switch weapons, the time needed is not all that shorter than manually equipping it. this is a QoL change
why don’t the escort events make sense? we know that waypoints are for personal transportation only, you can’t teleport a caravan with them, that’s what gates are for. asura need to make money somehow
Sylvari were originally designed far closer to “forest elves” but that was changed before the game was launched. you can still see traces of the old design in the armour some of the Caledon sylvari wear, which is cloth/leather/metal but with obvious plant motiffs.
It would be nice to have those as options for those sylvari that want to “blend in” a bit more with the other races but still remain “cultural” in look. The real problem however is that most armour in the game (including armour from the “sylvari” dungeon, TA) sits far better on a human.
when it comes down to it, mesmers have the skills of a “performer” whether that is illusion, music or flashy displays of magical ability.
case in point: “The Prestige” (torch skill)
15 chars made so far, 25 more to go. yes, i have written one char for each profession per race
so far, i’ve got all my sylvari done, 3 of the humans, 2 of the norn, 1 of the asura and 1 of the charr
just 2 of those are at 80, two at 21, the rest at 20
Arcane as fifth “element” is the only possible option, not that it is actually needed, but if they were to add another element that’s the only one i’d accept
…unless of course every elementalist gets a free Leeloominaï Lekatariba Lamina-Tchaï Ekbat De Sebat (yeah, had to look her full name up) …then i’m good
many players end up transmuting those starting unique items anyway, so let’s be done with soulbound altogether. accountbound… ok, sure. let’s keep that
“Broham” …ahahahahaha. if it was a typo, it’s a glorious one
well, they all look more …plain, if their icon is any indication, nothing as elaborate as Rox’ Quiver… but, it beats having none at all
wish they gave us racial quivers though…
we suck at a range of 1500 if properly specced?
is the character you tried this with a light armour user? (aka Scholar, aka Mesmer, Necromancer or Elementalist)
during one of the asura personal stories, a big deal is made about teleportation without the need of a waypoint or gate.
these things are also supposed to be fairly expensive too, for tourists and merchants
8/10 for a solid name, Setun, here are mine:
Freyr Frostmane – Elementalist
Brokk Valdisson – Engineer
Agni Stormhammer – Guardian
Loki Ravenclaw – Mesmer
Runi Boneseer – Necromancer
Erik Longfang – Ranger
Tyr Shadowbane – Thief
Einnarr Stenson – Warrior
the dwarves are extinct only in the sense there’s only one of them above ground. the rest are underground fighting a losing battle against primordus’ destroyers
one small issue at first glance. we know that Scarlett only thinks she understands the Eternal Alchemy
@SaltyDave
where did you get the idea that sylvari do not use technology at all?
if anything, their natural curiosity makes them excellent scientist or engineer material. Scarlett is only an exception in the sense of who she studied under and what she was allowed to learn because of it.
since sylvari can even grow their “clothes” shedding them when no longer wanted, i believe it is entirely possible for a sylvari to do the same with their hair
about a week ago i joined a TA pug trying to get the last needed blooms to finish my ranger’s armour set. i had connection problems, something about which i had warned the party about (the lag made me run into a wall a couple of times, activating all the nice explodey venom spores and killing me in the process. no team mates were hurt). after two consecutive lag spikes, the asura guardian of the party left the dungeon with a parting comment:
“why is it always the rangers….”
i felt like skritt. angry, frustrated, guilty even that i enjoyed the class. of course it only lasted for a second and thankfully my network problems got fixed soon after. the guardian was replaced immediately and we continued the run, then did another, all without issue.
for the record, i’m running HS, 3 signets and MW, with 1hS+Ax/LB and hawk/lynx as pets on land. i also frequently go into melee and walk away unscathed, often after reviving downed players. i’m far from the best ranger around, but i am also far from the worst
i’m not saying comments like the above do not fall on the ranger players to a large degree, but it would help loads if the game itself did not punish us for the profession we enjoy playing
The problem is that they do not consider TA armour to be in the same category as cultural one. I’m not sure if it is intended, with TA armour being something even sylvari get to wear (instead of grow) or if it is a bug and TA armour should work like cultural when worn by a sylvari.
On a semi-related issue, anyone else has problems with dye preview on sylvari (TA and cultural) armour? It works just fine for everything else, including other cultural and dungeon sets.
This reads like an automated response based on whatever error category you picked for the bug report actually. I have my doubts on whether or not an actual human saw your ticket at the time.
i was all aquiver about rox’ quiver too, but then i discovered there are 5 or so ascended quivers. i may not give one skritt behind about ascended armour, but i am making one of these for certain (as soon as i find that vial of mist thingy)
who said it’s just one? her appearance changes all the time
…they’re probably an army like the Joo Dees
i’m on a first gen i7 (Nehalem or whatever the codename was), with 6gb of ram and a GTX295 gpu. i also run the game under WINE, since i’m on linux (Fedora 20). my default resolution is 1680×1050.
barring the times when the game crawls into a stop for no apparent reason*, i can play at max settings (culling set at lowest though) with no problem, getting 20-35fps. it’s not perfect, but i get the same fps even if i play on lowest settings… and i prefer to experience the game in all its beauty
*to anyone saying that WINE/Linux may be the reason, i can play StarCraft 2 at max settings without an issue and at some point i had a bug that got 300+ Marauders on screen with very little slow down (the train heist mission)
if that happens, can we just nuke Orr from orbit and be done with it? it sounds like a silly place
it’s not? what other quiver is there and how do i get it??? (add a few more question marks for emphasis)
edit: huh, turns out there are several ascended items that have the appearance of a quiver and they can be crafted. i’m cool with that
(edited by smekras.8203)
Rox’s quiver has to return, at the very least, since it’s the only quiver available to us
Because I’ve written a full bio for one character per profession per race (to a total of 5×8) and i want to see them all fleshed out in game. so far only one of my asura has made it in, but he’s definitely the next one to get to 80 now that i’m done with my second.
something about a warrior asura in the Order of Whispers says “fun and potentionally challenging rp” to me
i’d like to see the level cap being raised to 100, but that’s just cause i’m ocd and it’s a nice round number. there’s really no need to raise the level cap at all.
on Teq; given that we’ve been told Zhaitan is dead, the most likely option is 2, as Konig said
keep in mind the peacemakers can draw members of any profession, so you are pretty much free to pick any class and it will still work. it just so happens that the ones you see as npcs have such weapons
people are too used to how other MMOs do it. there really is no need for mounts in the game. a minor clarification though, just because horses are not -shown- in the game, doesn’t mean they don’t exist. the devs have said that we only get to see a small percentage of the actual wildlife, to avoid being flooded with critters.
Happy new year to everyone and may 2014 make GW2 the game we all hoped it would be (continue the good stuff, remove the bad, etc).
Also, may this be a better year for every other aspect of life, cause… 2013 sucked rusted skritt shinnies.
some norns do have rides… but they tend to get drunk and lose them… and the rides actually belong to the charr, but yeah…
new professions and races in the gem store? …that may be the one thing that could kill GW2 for me beyond any hope of revival.
and i say that as someone who has spent a good deal of rl money on gems
