if it’s a stress test then the whole idea of that is to invite as many players as possible, only inviting a small group doesn’t stress the server as much as it should.
But inviting potentially millions of people is also completely pointless, since all that would do would be the make the vast majority of people sit around in the lobby for the duration of the test.
While they indeed need many people, they also need to control the exact amount of people that can potentially join. And unless they stop pre-purchase again, that can’t really happen.
a stress test isn’t “let’s invite only the X players that play this mode”, a stress test is “let’s invite a sh*tload of players to stress the servers”.
what you are saying is that only that small group should join, resulting in an underpopulated server, the exact thing a stress test should never ever have.
beta test=play the game
stress test=pump the servers full of players regardless of activity.
yet another thing they could have done from release but never did, it already exists in GW1…….
i have not bought it but you only need to ask your self this, did you get a code send to you?
if you did then your friend can just make a new account and apply the code, if not then i think you need to coop with your friend to get it right, make a new account and buy it through that account for instance.
EDIT: does your friend already have GW2 or not?
if it’s a stress test then the whole idea of that is to invite as many players as possible, only inviting a small group doesn’t stress the server as much as it should.
so dungeons, fractals, champions, sPvP, legendaries, etc… are made for solo players….
seriously, the fast majority is made for grouping, only the exploring part and specific instances are made for solo players and that’s it.Dungeons and Fractals are only the only part on that list that is not solo-player things. And even then solo players can complete rather many of them. Champions can be soloed, and even if they can’t you don’t have to group up in order to complete them since they are open world there are usually people around after all.
sPvP can easily be joined solo and the only part of legendaries that have anything that requires grouping in the slightest would be dungeons, and those tokens can be gotten via sPvP, which can be done solo.
now you’re searching an excuse, they CAN be soloed but it’s not MADE to solo.
just because ppl go out of their ways to solo group oriented things doesn’t make it a solo thing, it’s group oriented regardless how you look at it.
GW1 is an MMO just like GW2, it’s a different form but an MMO nonetheless.
also, there is no reason to make everything for groups while screwing over solo players, just like they do with pretty much everything. No, GW1 is a COORPG not an MMORPG.
Pretty much everything screwing over solo players? Really?
The vast majority of the game can be done without ever grouping up.
so dungeons, fractals, champions, sPvP, legendaries, etc… are made for solo players….
seriously, the fast majority is made for grouping, only the exploring part and specific instances are made for solo players and that’s it.
i just recently made a norn and i got though just fine, that was 3 day’s ago and AFAIK there has bin no patch since then….
so basically PvE skills with quests attached…like they already did in GW1 EotN….
i should never have to defend my GH just to keep it, that’s why GW1 is superior in this for miles on end.
you can play GvG but it doesn’t cost you your GH, it’s just a loss like every other TDM game.We have no information about how these supposed defend events will work.
It is of course also worth pointing out that the game is an MMO (as opposed to GW1). There is no reason why everything in the whole game should be catered to solo-players.
GW1 is an MMO just like GW2, it’s a different form but an MMO nonetheless.
also, there is no reason to make everything for groups while screwing over solo players, just like they do with pretty much everything.
GW2 will also give you the option to make a guild and have a Guild Hall on your own.
You might need help to claim your guild hall, but nothing stops you from getting friends to help you with it. Heck, you probably don’t even need to be there yourself if you just give leadership to one of the friends while they clear the Hall.
i should never have to defend my GH just to keep it, that’s why GW1 is superior in this for miles on end.
you can play GvG but it doesn’t cost you your GH, it’s just a loss like every other TDM game.
GW1 gives you the option to make a guild and have a GH on your own, it’s BS to force group guilding and BS to exclude solo guilds from GH’s.
if they do, they will show how much they let a part of their own 10+ years fans drop like a brick, how little they care for them and how low they have sunk.
i don’t really “like” any of them but the norn one with the childhood rival is quite enjoyable.
they thing is, the floppy part is good but not on such a big area, they should keep it on the edge feathers while keeping the rest stiff.
IMO Subordinates in general are not broken:-
- Ranger pets work fine (sometimes a greater degree of control would be nice)
- Mesmer illusions seem to work fine
- Elemental elementals work ok but perhaps could do with some buffing perhaps
- Necromancer minions seem to work ok (or at least as well as they did in the original GW)
- Other non-profession specific summons seem to do what they say on the tin but perhaps could do with a bit of buffing
All summons, minions, illusions are notionally primarily time limited attack multipliers and that is their intended purpose AFAIK. Given this, the current level of control of them is probably fine (assuming they only attack what the summoner targets or in self defence – c/f the original GW IIRC).
If specific support skills do not appear to be working as expected then there could be bugs for those specific skills but I have not noted any such problems myself yet.
minions in GW1 work allot better, they attack any and all hostile enemy close enough to attack, GW2 minions attack when they have the time in between searching for the player and standing still.
sure, Anet changed minions so they don’t attack any and all and don’t have an aggro range unless they attack but apparently they never thought of a player attacking the enemy, so while they were fixing the aggression of minions they also broke their willingness to attack.

if you look at this from a core standpoint, the original dev of GW comes from blizzard, for what i see he has bin looking way to much to how blizzard does it’s pricing.
how do i get to that conclusion?
at first GW1 was $50,- or €45,-, that was for the chapters.
the expansion was $40,- or €35,-, a fair price for an expansion.
now they wanted to release GW2, since then they already did one thing that is influenced from blizzard, making euro prices the same as dollar prices regardless of price differences. (even when including VAT the difference is bigger then you think)
now look at the price of LS chapters, together it’s 1600 gems which is 20,-
so the price of almost a full expansion go’s in to a small storyline that doesn’t really add anything really, just some reused areas ruined to fit their S2;LS and rewards that are barely worth the trouble.
now they show the price of HoT, the same price you pay for a WoW expansion, yet another blizzard influenced price tag.
i say, Anet needs to stop showing their blizzard part and show their Anet side again, it’s getting way to obvious right now….
There are crackpot theories posted every day.
Then there is this garbage.
Thank you for saying I am garbage. When it really happens, I hope you will eat it.
Anyways, it is just my concerns ok. If you think it is garbage, cool. Fine with me as long as I get to say what I want to say. Garbage or not.
He did not call you garbage.
I hope some PC Sylvari do turn, as we get closer to Mordremoth. It would make sense AND will be fun.
“will be” and “want it to be” are two different things, you might like it but i would want to avoid that like the plague….
my own, NPC’s are so dull in this game that i can think of better lore for characters….
what is the fun in PvP?
you kill players but why, did he kill your mom or something?
or you get killed, why do they want to ruin the fun?
i see PvE as the only RPG part of the game, it has a story with a world to explore in.
i can argue the bad sides on how Anet did it but that’s beside the point, it’s more about what there is to do VS what use there is to play that mode.
for how i see it.
PvP = pointlessly killing other players
WvW = open world TDM
PvE = explore a world full of story and lore.
i think you ppl are losing sight on the real issue here……
Why don’t you remind us what that is instead of just saying so. And who you mean by “you ppl” as there are two who are engaging in a back and forth that has gone past the realm of relevant (the back and forth on whether one can tolerate an intolerant person).
it’s not about tolerance here, that’s actually the off-topic part, it’s about one group bullying the other.
meta players joining non-meta player groups and bully them for it and vise versa.
i think you ppl are losing sight on the real issue here……
and they wonder why i like parties to be leader = ruler….
when you make a party and meta’s get in regardless of description, it’s a kick or leave right away.
of the party creator is also the leader of the party meta’s can at least not ruin a party buy kicking the creator in the progress, they can leave whenever they want.
Considering I am new to the franchise, I want to see Elona as well as Cantha.
But I want to see Cantha more as I happen to like both Chinese and Japanese culture. The only reason I could see Anet not wanting to explore Cantha within Guild Wars 2 is because most western cultures distastefully BLEND all of the Asian cultures into one. And if Anet was to do that with GW2, it would offend the Chinese playerbase.
Asians hate that. (The blending of their culture with Japanese culture). And I don’t blame them. You shouldn’t lump in distinct cultures into one. That happens with the Black/African American community. For another comparison, it’s like making an American Cowboy with a British accent and mannerisms. It’s blending two different cultures that aren’t exactly the same. Sure, Americans and most Eurpoeans would just laugh off such a character or even a setting, but that is not the case with Eastern culture.
But back on topic. Most Western games with Asian themes blend together Japanese and Chinese cultures and both sides (more China then Japan) take offense to that. That deters sales and sours the relationship between companies. But that doesn’t mean Western companies have to be afraid to use Eastern cultures in their works. They just have to do it right. Blizzard did it correct with Mists of Pandaria; they just had to remodel some of the Pandaren culture to reflect Chinese culture and not blend it in altogether making a mess.
So yeah. I don’t think that issue is holding back a Cantha expansion as much as people believe. Thus the only other issue is time and resources. I don’t want expansions to be pumped out too often as I want GW2 as a whole to have a long shelf life. So we’ll just have to wait and see. But the demand is there.
the problem is that cantha already exists in GW1, changing it just because of political problems will make cantha a different place.
it’s ether cantha as we know it (which is mixed in to one culture) or no cantha at all.
…..does no one think of NCsoft con…….
- Lack of transparency (a PTS would be a huge first step)
- General thoughts on balance (specifically your thoughts, so we can engage in a constructive discussion)
- A roadmap (again, more of a “this is what we want to do” / “this is what we see for the future” kinda deal would be awesome!)Arenanet used to be better in those areas, but then the community ruined it.
The best example of this are the 2013 blog post where Arenanet shared the plans about what they WANTED to do in the future, the result was the community started to whine when some of the things was postponed or even cancelled. After that Arenanet have been more careful about what they reveal of their plans.
Anet has bin doing this for 10+ years, it’s more Anet that changed for the worse.
they used to be open, play around with the community and even do in-game events them selves.
better yet, they used to make a video about the upcoming expansion with explanation of what to expect, this gave the community peace of mind.
the current Anet is so closed down, we never get a proper preview and big changes are explained in the worst of ways.
they released 2 feature packs and failed horribly, they never explained any of them fully and changed so much without asking the players first of what they think of the change.
their communication towards players is horrible, even in the 5+ years after EotN they communicated better then 6 months after the release of GW2
you can blame the community but it starts with Anet, closing down isn’t the solution, communicating properly is key to success.
what would be nice is a queen jenna costume, it can already be done but they need to adjust it for charrs.
oh and it has to be a royal suit for male, not another tuxedo.
GW2 is the opposite of GW1, to explain:
GW1 necro’s – one of the most powerful forces on the battlefield
GW2 necro’s – not welcome anywhere and underpowered in every way
GW1 warriors – pretty much useless
GW2 warriors – one of the most powerful forces on the battlefield
it’s as if Anet wanted to flip all of the professions to make the less popular ones more useful but at the same time make all the good one useless.
ask your self this, how is it that shiro is in GW2 in a sense but cantha isn’t…..
Ehm how about Malyx then?
malyx is a demon in a demon realm, shiro was an actual human living in cantha, big difference.
ask your self this, how is it that shiro is in GW2 in a sense but cantha isn’t…..
i ones wanted to make a dwarf by taking a human, choose the most beefed up body and choose a long beard.
all i can make is a gnome with the choices we have, hardly the customization i expected from what Anet said to provide.
it’s actually not so problematic, we have eles that can heat up the metal to it’s melting point and warriors to cut it in to handleable pieces.
they could even expand the town with metal walls and an armory for the vigil, sort of like a post to keep the peace.
in the mean time, the land returns to a grass field, the asura could even help to plant trees.
slightly off-topic but gotta know, does win 10 have an option to work just like win 7 or is it a tablet OS like win 8?
Its much more like win 7 than tablet for me
here are some screen shots
http://www.neowin.net/news/gallery-windows-10-build-10166
OMG…i hate the start screen…..what kind of idiot has designed that, it’s more an apple screen then a start screen of windows….
slightly off-topic but gotta know, does win 10 have an option to work just like win 7 or is it a tablet OS like win 8?
i would like to try but it doesn’t have to be ASAP, maybe a small weekend to stress test the servers, that way ppl can see what they can expect if they buy HoT.
IMO this LA is like an oversized playground for kids, it doesn’t even look like a hub let alone a city.
try to say that after a long day’s work, stiff hands and then clicking your butt off to get a character to lvl 80, let’s see how long it takes till you cry like a baby because of the pain.
the idea of info is nice for new players but vets don’t give one single crap, they just want the character to lvl 80 and that’s it.
Are you saying that people have literally cried like a baby from the pain of all of the clicking, or are you saying it sarcastically, meaning you don’t think the clicking is a big deal.
I legitimately can’t tell if you honestly think the clicking to 80 is so bad it is physically painful or if you are being facetious.
i say that as something serious, it hurts, if you want you can borrow my hands for a bit to feel the pain.
i do heavy labor, this also means that at times i get pushed to a certain limit.
this clicking is a nightmare to me, it’s like getting hit by a metal bar harder and harder on my knuckles.

To play with the new weapons for current professions will be more additional character slots. No one will want to change skills and traits all the time.
Wow. Judge the value of HoT however you want, but the above is bloody ridiculous.
How do you figure? Who would want to keep switching out traits and skills on their character all the time? For instance changing between a dual sword warrior and changing it into a hammer warrior. Two completely different builds and traits and possibly armor. With the new weapons being added and it changing the professions drastically, switching out skills and traits between two different builds became that much more tedious.
in GW1 you have builds with 5 different armor sets and 5 different weapon sets, not to mention the amount of work to change hero armors and weapons.
it’s a cake walk in GW2, really.
“i will find you and i will kill you”
grands 20% more precision, all enemies in earshot are granted vulnerability.
i would like just one thing, no screens at all.
i know i leveled up, i don’t care one single bit about the “info” they give, i don’t care about the rewards.
all i care about is leveling the kitten character, the screens are doing nothing more then getting on my nerves.
it is bad enough we have it with renown hearts, something that can easily be auto-accepted since it gives you nothing more then points, now we also have it with levels.
it’s as if Anet loves to go against the stream, the worst thing you can do to a player during gameplay is to spam them with messages…….and that’s exactly what they do.
Anet has disregarded beta players warnings for GW2, they will do the same with HoT.
it will be released this summer and to top it all up, way to early filled with must-fix bugs.

Dear Anet,
So you would like me to purchase your new expansion. Hmm lets take a look here. The base one offers me no real incentive, the second one offers me some incentive, but not at that price. That last one, well lets just say it leaves me feeling quite sore around my rectal area. So do you really want to sell me your expansion or just have me go back to playing other games?
Oh you do want to to try and actually sell it to me. Well here is how you do it. Start it out at $35 for the HoT expansion (by itself). Now throw in one of those character slots so I can actually try out that new class you spent so much time developing. Hmm maybe I need a shiny useless title, but lets be honest I have plenty, so no thanks. Maybe some sort of celebration booster, just a thought don’t really care either way.
So lets see what we have.
$35 expansion [X]
Character Slot [X]
Some sort of extra gimmick [X]
Everyone walking away happy [X]Congratulations you just sold your first expansion. We’ll be here in another year to make sure you follow the same formula.
~voidwarranty~
First I was like “are you serious…” and then I was like:
i have that all the time, the reason why i try to not use sarcasm, it tents to go over their head way to often….
it’s old news but still, it would actually be nice to explore EVERYTHING instead of just the small dome in rate sum and selected ground areas.
i like the GW1 version more, it’s the right size and everything is on the right place.
why does GW2 need to have so many things bigger yet ending up with empty spaces…….
i used to play the necro, till they ruined wells.
before the downgrade however, i was always the first to kill and the last to survive……and ppl still call it the worst profession…..
that’s full equip shown and yes, i would love it.
i have this in skyrim and it really is allot more natural, i never liked the whole “let’s pop a weapon out of nowhere”thing.

all they were thinking of are ether ppl who are used to blizzard pricing on expansions and new players, ppl who know better and still remember Anet 1.0 see this as a ridicules price.
i see Anet in a simple way, GW1 had Anet 1.0, a company that thrives on improving the game and giving everyone the chance to play the game regardless on who (s)he is and what payrole they have.
GW2 has Anet 2.0, a money hungry company that makes fluff with a huge paywall, they don’t care about players and have no heart on improving the game.
so the question is more, do they really want to continue as 2.0 or do they get the hint and take a step back to go more in the direction of 1.0?
If you behave in chat like you do here .. maybe no wonder if the people are not
that friendly to you,
if ppl are simply nice in general he would not have to post a thread like this, the simply fact that this community is filled with rude power mongers gives reason to his reaction.
well, that’s how they milk out money…..making junk and dressing it up with more crap, it’s the lipstick on a pig all over again…
it does depend on your resolution, i use 1920X1080 and my SS are HQ
