It’s good vs teams stacking cele eles/engis/warriors. But if the enemy has a thief/mes/nec your rampage will be shortlived because of the boonstrips. If you want a real gamechanger take res banner.

So, I tested MM out some in pvp, and it wrecks face. The only people who were able to actually beat me 2v1 were spamming AoEs. It also let me solo Svanir, the chieftain, and the lord that are set up for practice in the heart of the mists. And somehow this is a weak build? I get it’s not the zerker meta so many people love so much, but it deals respectable damage and my actual character becomes ludicrously hard to actually kill due to constant lifesteal granted by my minions healing me. I think Brown Fang Thump has posted the most accurate information thus far – they require a considerable amount of micromanaging, but if you can deal with that it’s a powerhouse of a build.

Are you sure you tested it in PvP? Practice mode does not count. While you are able to take 1v1s with minimal effort on the lower ratings of the ladder, it’s probably the most useless among the AI builds when it comes to teamfights. It’s a good build for beginners who want to pick up the class, but once you get used to DS and your weapon skills you should move on to another build.

Also: “zerker meta” – that’s PvE, I hope you know that :P

BBway started off as assassin/warrior as warrior didnt have the energy to pull the full chain off. Then backbreaker got nerfed then people ran full radiant with +5e daggers.

So I’ve seen the “butcher with dagger” theory and actually something like that might happen.

Backbreaker was a W/A build (warrior main profession assassin secondary) for PvP in GW1. You stunned your enemy with Hammer’s Backbreaker and then switched to your dual dagger set and 100-0’d your enemy while CC’d. This concept fits both GW2’s combat of having 2 weapon sets and warrior’s short CD weapon swaps. It would be pretty cool I think :P

I have only google around a bit and D/P use to be the kitten according to old videos I found, some youtube stuff on people getting one shorted.
I’ve played rogue in wow for 10 years so that’s why this class is appealing. But maybe it is as you say personal preference what wp to use.

I was hoping for a standard cookie cutter armor setup that could work for pvp,wvw and pve so I could save some gold. I have not even decided if should go the crit route or something ells.

Still an issue. 6PM CET is when the lag starts and that’s when I have to stop playing every day.. and no it’s not me, 10/10 people in the match had lag issues.

This is already a thing in the dye panel – you can right click a dye to add it to favorites which makes it easier to find the dyes you use the most. Having something like this for the PvP build menu would be a great addition to the game imo – I have no idea how build template developement is going or if it’s even happening, but adding something like this would be relatively easy yet important for people who switch between builds a lot.

That mine cart is like 50% transparent when it comes to projectiles. You can’t walk through it, but you can shoot through. Yesterday I had a downed 1v1 going on and the mine cart was between us yet we were able to throw dirt/rocks at each other. And it’s not like projectiles were only going through the edge of the object but rather the middle of the cart.

It is a class, not a race. They will not get their own starting area.

Paragons and dervishes back in gw1 was also classes and If you played prop/faction earlier then they had different starting area than rest of classes you had :P

That’s not entirely true. Every nightfall character had the same starting area. Paragons and dervishes were exclusive to Elona so obviously they won’t start in pre-searing Ascalon. But you could create an already existing profession in nightfall and have the same starting area as the new profs.

They did not have an own starting area because they were added later or because they were “special” but because of the new continent coming with the expansion.

People port around, I have 1 sec skill delay atleast and i get ported around aswell. All this while my ping is 35 ms.

Same issue, every single day, and it’s mostly a prime-time thing. I was looking forward to the expansion, but if Eu servers go ham now, what will happen later?

I´ve been there once, just because i was interested in the outcome of it. thb it´s really not worth it and much more relevant: it´s extremly boring and you don´t feel rewarded at all.
It´s like hitting a puppet and expecting to get 100xp each hit.
But hey, if you´re into that, why not, bore yourself and complain about GW2 being boring in the forum later…

Rank is a factor in matchmaking. By farming rank via match manipulation, they’ll mess up matchmaking once they go ranked.

Besides it’s illegal and those players should be banned.

Stronghold GvG?

Think about it for a bit. Let’s say it’s 8v8. Doesn’t matter how many secondary objectives will make the teams split, in the end most matches will end with both teams in a lord room (unless occassionally a split push of 1-2 players steal the show).

So there you are, 16 players in a room, plus the lord and the NPCs defending the lord, plus the NPCs hired by capturing objectives. And no healers. Do you really want a chaotic spam fest of ~30? That’s everything just not decent PvP, rather PvE/WvW.

Don’t forget if they make it 6v6 or 8v8 and the guild decides to go Conquest for a bit – who will you leave out? In GW1 team formats for pvp were 8v8 and 4v4 so it was perfect. And before someone says ‘then make it 10v10’ read my 2nd paragraph again.

1) Opens up now possiblities to survive fights by using teleport spots (such as the roof on Khylo, upper-keep on Forest, bridges on Temple and so on, most classes won’t be able to follow you).
2) Life force. As you can no longer stack LF before the match, some necs tend to use it at the beginning of the game to gain some life force and become less of a free kill with a brief access to DS.

Imo the key of winning is corrupting Vigor as soon as the mesmer gains it (with either path of corruption of Corrupt Boons – the mesmer will mainly have might and vigor, corruption them inflicts weakness and bleeding). This is a huge blow to them.

To mitigate the danger of PoC try to bodyblock Dark Path with a clone whenever the nec enters DS – while Dark path is homing (and does that very well), it does not pierce so if you’re close enough to your clone you can save yourself. If you have staff, you can make your phase retreat clone tank it.

So 8 months till the next balance patch?

We were talking about Conquest builds in the other topic, not roaming. I don’t really play WvW anymore, that’s not my department on the site.

We had that build under Conquest too, but there it was archived because it was inferior to other med zerker builds.

For WvW, you can be more selfish and have access to anti condition food, that’s why there’s place for 1v1 builds (even with poor condi cleansing) in the roaming section but not that much under conquest (unless that can contest points and is unique enough).

Atm WvW Roaming’s the weak link of the site I’d say (because it’s incomplete), that’s where we get the least contributors so feel free to help out :P

Cons: (compared to engi/ranger):

  • Worse mobility
  • No access to vigor (or any form of faster endurance regeneration)/protection
  • Less access to conditions (a lot)
  • Worse CC options
  • Brings nothing to the team except for basic class mechanics of 2 supportive virtues, and every other guard spec does that better
  • Deals less damage/dies faster in teamfights
  • Lack of conditions to cover burn with

Cons (compared to med zerker)

  • Slower
  • Less AoE damage
  • Less sustain (lack of vigor, protection, and it has worse condi cleansing)
  • Less party utility

Pros:

  • More burning, I guess?

If the med zerker wouldn’t exist I’d (maybe) rate it 4, because it’s not a bad build. The problem is, it has the same skill bar but it’s worse in basically everything, which makes it an inferior copy of the build. I know it’s supposed to be a “hybrid”, but the only conditions you have that a zerker does not comes solely from your sigils.

As an example I could bring up the Dhuumfire build. At some point this build was meta/great, but it’s identical to the terrormancer build which is a lot more popular in this meta so we archived Dhuumfire, removing it from the main page.

Every build under the Good category has something significant that the class’ builds in Great/Meta don’t. If consecration or signet or whatever condi guard becomes a thing then it’ll have something to offer that other guard specs don’t, but until that day it’s just a less effective meditation build.

Another thing is, conquest holds back many builds. In a 1v1 or 2v2 this build would have an easier time because many of the cons would be irrelevant.

We do not delete builds, so if something significant change happens to the gamemode variety or the spec itself, we can just dust it off, and reset ratings for a fresh start, so even if it does not make it to Good now that does not mean it won’t make it at some point in the future :P

Just thought I’d drop a comment here: a new voting system is coming, you’ll actually have to do a brief reasoning where you explain the rating you’re about to give – so throwing 5 stars at a build simply because someone’s obsessed with it won’t be considered a valid reason thus the vote will be invalid.

Dantes is working on a voting policy too, this is not finished yet but already gives a guideline.

With this we’ll be closer to the voting system of the old GWPvX wiki.

This build’s a 3 (Mediocore) at best according to the future policy I’ve linked. You also have to keep in mind that builds are rated based on existing gamemodes (Conquest and at some point Stronghold), just because something’s good at 1v1s does not always mean it’s recommended for the given gamemode.

That’s a bit of an overreaction. We’re talking about a spec that was stacked in teams even at the highest tiers more often than hambow was, and can do everything fairly well. A nerf was definitely needed, I’m not even sure if it was enough.

Other professions get buffs we get fixes 2 years late.

Necromancer “mobility buff” was about reducing cast time of a warhorn skill by 0.5 seconds.

Ranger greatsword leap is still broken and locks you in place 80% of times if not used on flat terrain, which is a lot worse than Rush was.

Don’t act like other classes got better changes.

Turret engi is a highly immobile spec, organized teams can easily outrotate them and cele rifle is overall more useful, that’s why you don’t see them in higher ratings.

But that does not change the fact that it takes 0 skill and can 1v1 lot better players while holding the node. When we’re strictly talking about combat, turret engi is imba. Even people in this topic are telling that some builds have no chance vs a turret engi (which is called being a hardcounter), yet the same people claim it’s fine.

And how does the Engi even access these places without using rocket boots or similar himself?

There is a skill called jump shot.

And Coglin, you describe the totally pve part of turret engis who put all turrets on point, don’t chain CC and have the wrong traits.

Unranked is for people who have the intention to learn the gamemode.

Hotjoin is for PvE people who farm reward tracks and daily achies.

So try to tell the newbies how they should play (politely), and if they tell that they do not care, then direct them to hotjoin.

There is a site called metabattle that works in a similar way to GWPvX, that should help you out I guess.

PvE revolves around stacking offensive buffs and killing the enemy before they kill you. You can do the content with any gear and build it just takes longer, that’s why everyone’s trying to go for the highest possible direct dmg output (conditions aren’t considered viable in dungeons unless you’re soloing). There is an expansion coming and Arenanet’s talking about adding harder PvE content, so we’ll see what’ll change.

In PvP you have more variety with various viable direct dmg, condition and bunker/support builds.

Don’t come here complaining about that “this is not the GvG you wanted”. Guess what, you’re not the target audience here. GvG was a PvP gamemode in GW1, and it’ll be a PvP thing in GW2. I don’t see the problem here, you get your own share of content too.

PvP desperately needed guild content.
Most guild updates are PvE related, but there are a fair amount of things for WvW in the Art of War branch. You can even claim a land on the borderlands! What can a guild currently offer for PvP players? An influence boost for Pvp activities which you can spend on.. more influence boosts? Even our leaderboards are individualistic. This expansion can finally encourage players to create PvP guilds.

GvG was a great success in GW1, what WvW players call ‘GvG’ is just a simple zerg clash.

But our guild has more than 5 members, we want 15v15!
Could you please think about the issues for a while? Just to name a few:

  • Combat is balanced around 5v5.
  • Smaller guilds would never have the chance to try the gamemode, alienating the majority of the playerbase. Besides, you want to convince me that guilds in this game have exactly 15 members so with that roster size the entire guild could fight together?
  • As someone who played a lot of GW1’s 8v8 formats, having eight people online at the same time for a long period of time was really hard for any guild I’ve been in. We often had to take 1-2 subs despite the fact that our guild size was never below 20-30 members. 5 is an ideal party size for PvP.
  • Fewer teams = less competition. This also means less teams will be near your rating level resulting at longer/dead ques. With a 15v15, ques could be dead for ~20 hours of the day, easily.

We don’t know exactly how things will work. Maybe multiple guild teams can enter the que contributing towards a shared guild rating so nobody’s left out.
Or people could just simply realize the fact that you can be in 5 guilds at the same time so if you’re not in the main roster of your main guild, you can just make another one solely for GvG purposes.

Yes guys, turret engi is balanced or even sucks, it’s very hard and skill based, l2p issue etc..

2 of those players on the blue team never played engi before (they had no idea what their skills do). In the end we lost because of a lord rush. It was ROM’s premade, but not the main oRNG roster. We weren’t on TS and they even countercomped by bringing 2 Focus eles (with swirling winds) at the start. After the 3cap denshee rolled engi.

Turret engi has a very low skill floor, obviously. However if you were paired with them that means you must be at a similar level? Since the system recognizes new classes as “new to PvP”.

Also, warriors should have been able to get rid of the turrets no problem. Then watch them all get stomped because of AGE LONG cooldowns.

Sorry, YOU my friend, need to learn to play vs a turret Engi.

If I can do it with a Rabid dual kit condi engi, then you can too.
ESPECIALLY with Power builds.

Only thumper turret is placed on the cap point so you can’t cleave them down, other 2 are on distant, hard to reach places often only accessible by skills like jump shot. Gl killing them with warrior or anything. You either aim for me or the turrets. Going for me? I have enough CC to win the duel (in case you are extremely dangerous and activated stability, I can kite away from the point, wait until it runs out, and then use my CCs to fullcap the node)

Going for turrets? I wish you luck. They are immune to conditions/crit hits and repair themselves, so there goes your entire longbow set as a warrior. And if you want to attack them with a melee weapon I hope you’re kitten good at jumping puzzles and willing to sacrifice minutes of the match while the point is ticking for me.

A sub gamemode where you do the same thing with different secondary objective? It’s like calling Temple of the Silent Storm a different gamemode. I’d say it’s the Hotjoin of WvW.

You can see Colin tried to avoid calling it GvG not to upset some WvW players, but as long as Stronghold’s the only gamemode with a guild ladder, it’s pretty much GvG.

That is your opinion which is largely based off inexperience of gw2 gvg, And honestly your apple example makes no sense in this context. Gw1 ranger/mesmer have very little in common with gw2’s. Should we not call them something else then? After all as ranger main in gw1 im shamed by the one in gw2

people that gvg dont care what its called but it is in fact a guild vs a guild in a planned organized setting with set rules that govern the entire “gamemode”. It stems from a large portion of the wvw community desiring a way to test themselves against opposing guilds in a wvw format. This has never been provided because it is direct opposition and would detract from the attempts to create spvp into the esport it was hoped to be.

They have even been forced to create their own websites to support this mode (which is largely an unregulated cesspool of personalities). Yet given the player drive and desire more game modes are created for spvp instead which only further reinforces the feeling of a misunderstood and abandoned community.

1) Stop calling it GvG.
2) You don’t understand what I’m talking about I guess. GW1 mesmer is different from GW2 mesmer. But it’s officially called mesmer. While GvG does not officially exist in GW2 yet, some wvw players did started calling deathmatch their GvG, and now Anet’s adding GvG based on GW1’s.

An example: gw2 does not have a dervish. Let’s say I make a necro build and name it “the dervish”. Some friends of mine acknowledge my build as an unofficial class, the dervish. Then Anet announces to add dervish which is similar to the GW1 one – then I freak out that it’s not even close to what I made.

WvW was never meant to have sub-gamemodes. WvW is WvW.

In GW1 guilds could buy guild hall upgrades with gold. This included merchant, bank, etc, so think of it as a hub you can travel to for free, any time and use the services there. It’s also a nice place to chill and form a party before going to somewhere.

Stronghold == GW1 GvG

So, GvG/Stronghold is not Zerg vs Zerg.

Teams of the discussion:

  • WvW players who call their 20v20 zergfests ‘GvG’ and demand a gamemode for it and are disappointed that they won’t be able to zerg in the official GvG gamemode of gw2.
  • GW1 players who remember what GvG actually means and welcome the gamemode.
  • GW2 PvP players who understand that 5v5 is a good size for PvP.

PvP in GW1 was just as accessible, but you had to buy the expansion if you wanted the new skills and I think it’s fair. Also, expect a price drop for the core game once the expansion hits.

Staff is good for every area of the game, but not with the same traits/stats. Having a zerker staff ele on your team in Pvp is like fighting a 4v5. With celestial however it’s pretty decent. If you want to see some working options for staff for every gamemode this might help.

This. The gem market would crash. If they make that move say goodbye to the gemstore because there is no way anyone will be able to afford a gemstore armor set without months of heavy grinding.

Your right because no one can afford to spend money on the game. They have to use in game gold……..

So let’s say you can buy the expansion with gold (so without spending IRL money) – you wanna tell me people won’t go for it? They will, until gem prices are so out of control only people with thousands of gold will be able to afford to buy anything from there. 90%+ of players will no longer be able to get gemstore items without buying gems for money.

This would be the MMO with the most grind on the market.

This. The gem market would crash. If they make that move say goodbye to the gemstore because there is no way anyone will be able to afford a gemstore armor set without months of heavy grinding.

Quick recap. GW1 had a very popular official gamemode called GvG – an 8v8 battle where guilds competed at automated tournaments / on a ladder.

GW2 – there is no such gamemode. WvW zerglings banded together and created an autoattack spamming zergfest and labeled this abomination as ‘GvG’.

Present day – ArenaNet announces a promising official GvG gamemode. Zerglings complain about how this is ‘not the GvG they wanted’. Topmosts kek.

Anet made the right decision and invested into something that takes a brain and personal skill instead of a brainless spamfest for ~100 people per region who could keep the ques alive for 1-2 hours a day. If they made it 20v20, mostly PvE guilds (and some WvW) could participate and the majority of the playerbase would never have a chance to experience this gamemode.
