I mean, OP’s not wrong. Power builds need 3 stats to do damage because they were designed to be bursty (with low sustain) and condi only needs 1 or 2 because they were supposed to wear down their opponents and have enough sustain to do so.

But since Anet got rid of all the good defensive condi amulets (cele, settler) and introduced condition stacking thanks to PvE this kind of got reversed: condi builds now burst while power can go bunker (druid, scrapper, ele, to name a few).

Sadly this game is 100% PvE now, don’t even think they’ll do something about it.

I saw a Ventari Rev believing to be immortal running mid get stomped under 4 seconds to 3 players (normal focus scenario).

Getting bursted by 3 people isn’t the best way to determine if a build is healthy for the game or not..

The knockback is indeed cancer. The build’s 10 times stronger than decap engi was, if that build had to be removed from the game then the logical step would be to gt rid of this too.

Of course if that happens Ventari is back to useless. Only a complete overhaul can fix that legend and revenant in general.

Could not be the best way to determine if a build is healthy or not but the time-to-die can surely determine if a build is OP at the point of nerf.
Ventari Revenants die fast when focused, players should know how to deal with, bringing them to team fights and not trying to solo them on a point.

That’s still only one scenario. Ventari’s main strength right now is how good it is as just going around the map decapping everything. There won’t be 3 people waiting at every single cap who have all CDs, and if 2-3 people would have to be assigned to do nothing but deal with the rev then that’s a pretty telling sing of being broken.

Most bunker builds should hardly ever die in 1v1, but that’s all they can do – survive. Ventari is unkillable in 1v1 and does more than that, technically it’s winning most 1v1s, just not by killing, instead through exploiting how conquest works.

Conquest's Design Needs Fixing!

Capture Points Design

  • Mid points should all be around Graveyard size. Side points shouldn’t be Graveyard big, but larger than they are currently. This will make putting AoE’s on point less powerful because you can actually avoid them.

That’s way oversized, but something like Capricorn middle would be nice.

  • The changes above would allow for the return of more tanky ammys because one player could no longer perma deny the capture from 2 other players.

Quite the opposite, actually. With more room to kite and stand out of AoE it’d become much much easier to survive on point.

I mean, they put Rytccat in prison and just left it at that…. Didn’t even talk about it in the final LW chapter. He’s probably going sit in prison, channelling his inner Riot Grrl through the mists and come out all Kalla’ed up and ready to revolt.

Most likely wishful thinking but in a gamescom interview MO was asked what happened to dervishes from GW1 and he smiled saying “we’ll have to see for ourseleves” or something.

Renegade is bland / super lacklustre and only going to be used in PvE (even that’s best case scenario), what if we’ll get another elite spec?

All new elite specs fit the lore of the region, except Kalla who’s from the northern corner of another continent belonging to a race that’s never been to Elona, plus you know, rev has the least amount of weapon skills and such.. maybe they’ll surprise us with something?

You’re missing the whole point of elite specializations from Anet’s POV: it allows them to expand the game without having to do exponentially more work with each expansion.

Currently they have to balance 1 elite spec and how it interacts with 5 other trait lines/various skills.

When they release the next one they still only have to balance it with the 5 other core trait lines and skills.

There are no more “big plays”, any strategical thinking was killed off with HoT. It’s just skill spam.

Which is why this would be an absolutely perfect opportunity to do something.. The elite specs are looking great, but I’m not sure if conquest will be enough to keep people around. Anet needs to capitalize on the new builds and influx of new players with a new gamemode to play.

Nobody cares if it isn’t perfectly balanced, nothing can be worse than stronghold and everything is better than conquest.

HoT won’t become F2P which is a good sign. What that means is they still want to sell HoT so they can’t have the current elite specs be overshadowed entirely by the new ones.

I mentioned this in the AMA, may as well repeat it here. For a multitude of reasons, balance being just one, we don’t have any plans on doing a 2v2 (or 3v3) queue.

We’ve been talking about doing special tournaments on occasion. 2v2 would be one option for a special tournament.

First of all, thank you for responding. I can only guess what those reasons are:

Balance (confirmed)
While conquest is a 5v5 mode, fights rarely exceed 3v3 which is why I don’t think this’d make a big difference at all when it comes to balance. 2v2 might cause some trouble, but I think 3v3 is the sweetspot that should work.

Splitting the playerbase
True, this could be a problem. But I’ve been saying something from day one: if you try so desperately to not split the community on the long run you won’t have anything to split.

Operating both a conquest and arena (3v3?) que might be too taxing on the population, but throwing 3v3 ATs should not be an issue. An annihilation match would go for maybe 3 minutes at worst and the entire tournament could be over in an hour. Half the participants will drop out in minutes anyways, which means it wouldn’t drain the population away for long.

E-sport?
Wild guess, but if you guys still have plans for e-sports then you probably want it to be conquest. Actually, a 3v3 isn’t a bad choice either:

  • Action goes on only at 1 place, not 3-4 like an average conquest match
    *Thanks to the lack of capture points the AoE spam becomes much more spread out so spectators would finally get to see something instead of one gigantic clusterkitten.
  • Smaller teams fit the smaller population well, so we’d get to see more teams.

But first let’s make the game fun and enjoyable again instead of shooting for the stars.

Conquest dying out?
Without a 24/7 3v3 queue this obviously wouldn’t happen, so it’s irrelevant.

I’ve noticed something recently, even in upper platinum: some people just play for kills and cba to rotate. This is because they Q for PvP to do PvP, not to outrotate enemies and care about tactics. 3v3 ATs would let them satisfy such needs and who knows, maybe they’d start playing conquest for the conquest and 3v3 for pure PvP, improving match quality.

A queue’s probably not worth it at this point, you’re right. But regular 3v3 ATs? Can’t think of a single reason why that’d be a bad idea.

I agree to add 2:2 and 3:3 modes. But classes are not balaced for that. It will lead to some ranting that combination XY is overpowered. I main ele and i can imagine what happes if i pair with an engi … It leads to counter combinations as well.

Try to make something better for rev than Shiro/Glint, you just can’t. People think there’d be a drastic change in builds but that’s not true. It’d have a slightly different meta and maybe 1-2 new builds, that’s really not the end of the world from a balance standpoint and we need that kind of shakeup.

Counters will always exist in every game ever. But if you hide the enemy team’s comp and don’t allow for profession changing once the Qpop is accepted then this is not that big of a deal.

And counters are needed or else everyone will just play the exact same comp.

Anet added a 2v2 map, and they are in general easier to produce as these maps are much smaller and have no real objectives.

Over the last year we got visible rating and a solid division system (let’s not discuss matchmaking for now), automated tournaments, new maps, and a lot of randomness was removed from combat thanks to the sigil reworks. These were all great changes.

Yet nobody’s hyped. At all. That’s because the game is incredibly stale. We were playing conquest for 5 years. It doesn’t matter how many reworks the rating sytsem or matchmaking gets or how good AT rewards are, because it feels like playing the same thing over and over again for 5 years.

People burned out and the slow pace of balance patches doesn’t help at all. You want PvP to stand any chance at maintaining a population you have to give us diversity. Look at overwatch, just in 1 year Blizzard added 1v1, 3v3, a dozen brawl formats, completely customizable PvP rules in private rooms, and many more.

Now compare that to 5 years of conquest. I love conquest, but at this point even I don’t want to play this anymore.

Adding 2v2s was the best idea you ever had.. and then you immediately butchered it. Nobody’s going to play it in custom arenas. NOBODY. AT ALL.

Please just have at least two 2v2 or 3v3 tournaments a week using the AT format. It’d mean SO MUCH to the community. You could do it in off-season too to test the waters and keep people playing more.

Sure, add some new rules if you have to, like reducing healing effectiveness after a while or after 3 minutes activate a capture point at the middle or whatever.

You already have all the pieces, please, please do something with it.

It’s pretty! I suppose the condi transfer and fear could be helpful along with the chill if trait ed for reduced damage. Regen (especially with minions)

Greatsword gives you chill access, a pull, area boonrip + blind, cleave, and has better life force generation than staff.

Greatsword is like reaper shroud but worse. 5/5 staff skills build life force, 4/5 are unblockable, and skills #3-5 can do some serious pressure. It’s the swiss army knife of necro builds.

Ronan was the one who found the seed that would later birth the Pale Tree and by extension an entire race, yet it’s always “Ventari this Ventari that” with little to no mention of Ronan.

As a soldier who took the seed and guarded it until his death he could be like a patron saint to them and deserves more attention than he’s currently getting.

What’s the top chunk of the crash report details? The part after “—> Crash <—”.

Nothing, the client just crashes and that generic grey little window pops up where we can submit the details of the problem.

It happens if someone tries to go to the character selection screen before leaving the map after the match finished.

Its good that the daily tourneys dont reward much. If they did the real good teams would just steamroll through them and it would be hard for you average team to ever get a good placement.

It’s actually the opposite. It’s safe to say that right now the 1-2 remaining top teams are going to win the next few monthlies with no real competition, which means smaller teams only get to benefit from, well, the smaller rewards.

With daily tournament rewards being 100% garbage, there is no incentive for new teams to even try.

If dailies had better rewards new teams would have a reason to keep getting better and beat other new teams, eventually learning more and more about the game to the point where they can be worthy challengers at a monthly.

Currently the chance of that happening is 0 because the devs don’t know kitten about PvP.

Death of daily rooms

Maybe finally they are coming to their senses. Daily rooms are the afk farms of PvP, if they are taking countermeasures in PvE then it makes sense for them to finally roo them out in PvP too.

It was years overdue.

In Overwatch you can get permabanned for doing what these people were doing for years. It’s finally time for Anet to take their game seriously if they want players to care, but I fear they are too late.

Was about to make a thread about this, agreed. They are way too close to each other AND they are on both sides of the road, very close to it. It’s easy to get in combat just by walking down the road when someone is fighting the NPCs.

+1, it’s a garbage incentive to play. This is the 2nd time in GW2 history they are trying to make people group up and compete as a team, they need to try harder than this.

I actually like the llamas just because I was obsessed with mini pets in gw1 & still am in gw2, although they hold not the same vanity as gw1 did.

I played GW1 as well and actually cared about mini Ghostly, but it made sense thematically. I just don’t see how llamas fit in and why should I care.

Ghostly also had a cool unique model that one could notice from miles away (glowy and stuff) – but a 20something re-skin of a kittenty llama? I’ve lost track of what llama comes from where and couldn’t tell the difference between them even if I cared.

It’s just some generic crap and insulting at this point.

Why do people want 2v2 in the rotation? The game isn’t balanced for that. But I’m sure 2v2 will be a blast with Mesmer/Engie comps fighting each other until the timer reaches zero.

With conquest we don’t get a chance to create builds that have real synergy with each other as we can’t assume they are always going to be in the same fight.

But in 2v2 on the other hand that’s exactly what’d happen – we get to craft comps, not just individual builds. That’s new and exciting! Most fights in conquest are in the 2v2-3v3 range already so it wouldn’t be such a big balance leap.

2v2s are also a quick PvP fix – short ques, short matches, pure PvP. Not everyone wants to care about capping points and outrotating enemies when they decide to do some PvP, and no, hotjoin isn’t good enough.

If it’s hotjoin only they shouldn’t even add it because nobody is going to care.

On the minimap (and the actual map) Lion is on the left and Dragon on the right.
But on the scoreboard at the middle top of the screen Dragon is on the left and Lion on the right.

Been like this since release and it’s really annoying/confusing. Please fix it.

Season 6 : Skill based or gind based system?

A little bit of both. The system itself is skill based, but there aren’t enough players for it to work, creating matches with an MMR range of 500-600 which can span 3 divisions, making any claim of skill meaningless because a lot of players are getting way higher than they should.

To make sure the current players play as much as possible they’re enforcing 120 games per season of this stale boring meta, which means if someone got fed up after 80 games with a rating of 1.9k, he won’t get any rewards at all, but a tryhard gold with 1.6k might land in the top 250 and get a title.

There has to be a lower limit to prevent people with 10 matches getting into the top 250 but 120 is absurd. Instead of forcing us to grind PvP, how about making the game more fun with regular balance patches and meta shifts instead of these limitations?

For the record subscription in WoW can be bought by gold, so technically it can be free. Furthermore, other blizzard games can be bought from WoW gold too including expansions making them cost “nothing”, but this arguement never made sense or had any relevance in the first place.

This may be my inner fanboy speaking (Or the 5k hours cough cough) but the game is definitely worth 60$.

Playing through all 4 campaigns will probably take you at least 100hrs. (150-200 if doing some side quests) And that is with one character only, no hardmode, no titles, no friends to play elite content and dungeons, no farming for some nice looking gear and no PvP (okay this one is basically non existant these days)

That being said though I really wouldn’t mind them putting it on discount to get some new players into it who maybe haven’t seen it yet. And it’s not like goldsellers or bots could get any worse…

I’m with you on that, but still. The game is indeed a decade old and might not get any content updates in the future plus there is no trial – it’s a blind investment that doesn’t sound all that appealing despite the game itself being awesome.

I honestly wouldn’t care if these changes were scrapped. They just create more unneeded confusion between PvE and PvP, and reduce options overall. The fact that condi builds get indirectly buffed doesn’t help either.

Condi builds aren’t really buffed though. The only builds that would ever want a duration sigil over a application sigil are burn builds, and burn builds already have a duration sigil.

Outside of burn builds, condi Mesmer is the only class I can think of that might want the new duration sigils. All other condi builds will probably end up using the weapon swap sigils.

He didn’t mention condi duration sigils so idk what you’re talking about. Power builds rely a lot more on sigils for damage (air/blood) than condi builds do, by removing them Anet’ll tip the scale towards condi.

2) These are major overhauls which would require a reason for Anet to do them and PvP is already a goner – it’s not good for anything other than retain bored PvE/WvW players and luring them in with rewards. If pvp is already a goner then there’s no reason for them to not do this. If it screws it up more then it doesn’t matter and if it helps then they are on their way to fixing their problems.

You don’t seem to understand the situation. Maybe these changes would help but, a lot of these would take quite some effort and collaboration with the “skills” team. And by “quite some” I mean a metric kittenton.

They symply aren’t going to go through all that trouble for a lost cause. The devs are also way too proud to admit mistakes and by doing these changes they’d acknowledge HoT being a trainwreck.

You do realize Anet buffed healing power scaling for quite a few professions, right? Cele bunker meta would be back in an instant, stronger than ever.

I’m actually having more fun this season than last. Found a new build that’s not half bad, moving up with a steady win percentage.

Well pretty much everyone quit so it’s like playing hotjoin so everything is viable.

i was replying to the poster above who thinks Stronghold is PVE. I think Conquest is good, and stronghold offers a change of pace and strategy.

Stronghold is PvE though? Don’t get me wrong, you can PvP in the mode but it’s centric focus is killing NPCs.

GW1 GvG in a nutshell everyone.

I prefer Stronghold only because there is much more diversity in what people bring. But I also don’t hate Conquest like I used to and do play it.

GW1 GvG was nothing like stronghold. You had to kill the lord to win, true, but also had to wipe the enemy team to do so. Stronghold is a PvE race where you can ignore all the enemy players as long as you are keeping doorbreakers alive and safe from guards.

You see more diversity in stronghold because it’s a super casual gamemode for unranked and the ~r10 people who play it don’t bother bringing what’s best they just bring random stuff. There is an optimal way of playing stronghold with 2 druids, 1 tempest, 1 rev, and 1 something else preferably a nec. This brings enough healing/cleansing/stealth to get to lord under 3 minutes and win while doing enough damage to kill lord.

It’s a joke of a gamemode.

If Anet didn’t care for more than 4 years we should all just come to terms with Ats not happening, ever.

It definitely should be nerfed, but let’s not mess up a core weapon set if the problem comes from the elite spec. If PI is OP then nerf PI, not headsot. Maybe give the effect a 5-7s cd? Or -50% damage, rev staff style – CC shouldn’t be the primary source of damage for anything.
