So, just to clarify, you’ll have to rank all over again from scratch all the way to dragon rank just to get the current one if you have not yet even received it? That’s a lot of work.

No. Noone said that. If you are rank 80, you’ll have all the HoT themed rank reward tracks unlocked. If you are rank 60, you’ll have them unlocked up until HoT-shark track. Then you can still climb your way to rank 80, unlocking all the remaining finishers (both current and new ones).

If you are r80, all you need to do is complete the new reward tracks to unlock the new finishers.

GH throphies from PvP?

So we know that it’s possible for PvE guild to earn statues by doing certain contents like beating raid bosses.

Will there be statues/trophies earned by doing PvP? Like reaching legend with your guild team and getting a trophy you can interact with to read the names of the people on the team and such. I think it would be cool and would give Pvp guilds a reason to have GHs now that we can’t use the arena :p

While I see where you’re coming from, let’s list some facts:

  • Thief is the best in slot for +1’ing and decapping eversince 2012 and one of the main reasons is shortbow. Now, why would you buff builds that are already #1? Nothing matches thief’s mobility. Every thief’s using shortbow, so whatever buffs you do to thief, you buff them in this role too. Creating a super mobile spec that can take 1v1s, hmm where have I seen that before?…

Not that they need to, because of the below:

Yes it’s squishy and can’t take 1v1s. But unless it gets nerfed in other areas, it absolutely shouldn’t be buffed.

Mesmer, lol, they lack any kind of movement speed boost and have to use utility skills with long CDs for mobility (thief = 0 sec cd shadowstep spam from shortbow) not to mention that just like thief they shouldn’t really 1v1 and have some pretty bad matchups.

Buff thieves so they don’t need shortbow? You mean, buff thieves without touching shortbow, so you’d give them more mobility and utility, while they can just choose to keep shortbow too because they have no reason not to?

Amazing ideas so far.

The thief community is the most ignorant one I’ve ever seen in any game, period.

While I see where you’re coming from, let’s list some facts:

  • Thief is the best in slot for +1’ing and decapping eversince 2012 and one of the main reasons is shortbow. Now, why would you buff builds that are already #1? Nothing matches thief’s mobility. Every thief’s using shortbow, so whatever buffs you do to thief, you buff them in this role too. Creating a super mobile spec that can take 1v1s, hmm where have I seen that before?…
  • Thief has access to the best stealth in the game especially with Shadow Arts, and makes it almost impossible to stomp allies while also giving them damage reduction to shield them from cleave. Just by pressing F next to a downed ally both of you will gain stealth, you don’t even need to use a skill. While counterplay’s being added, I’m sure it won’t be countered that often.
  • Steal. Instant cast, can be used while CC’d, it goes through any stacks of stability, and even interrupts at the same time, along with many many other important things on a ~20s CD.
  • Shortbow cleave and spam – skill #2 provides great downed cleave, skill #4 is a spammable AoE poison with no CD which is also great when there is a downed enemy around. Then you have skill #3 you can just spam while on low HP or immobilized.

And this isn’t the full list of thief’s strengths. Yes it’s squishy and can’t take 1v1s. But unless it gets nerfed in other areas, it absolutely shouldn’t be buffed.

Counterplay to D/D ele?

A DD ele dies when a DD ele wants to die. Even if you are winning the duel, he can always disengage and reset. Try not to 1v1 them until the expansion.

Cele nec being a counter is a huge huge misconception – yes it has better chances than other specs, but the RoF “nerf” made it harder for them to fight back and they obviously can’t chase down an ele who can just reset the fight anytime. If the ele plays it safe, he won’t die to necs.

Your best bet is applying chills when he leaves water.

The current ones will be the default rank finishers after HoT launch too. However at every 10 ranks you unlock a new HoT themed rank reward track – when you complete that track you’ll unlock a new HoT finisher like Hot dragon etc.

All current finishers will also be obtainable after expansion release.

I think the next generaton of specs or elite specs will bring new weapons, so my bet is on a Dervish spec invoking Varesh and getting a Scythe.

Could be about boon manipulation, like stripping boons from yourself and gaining unique power boosts based on which boons you removed. Like “your next attack deals x% more damage for each might stack removed from yourself”, or “remove stability from yourself and nearby foes”, etc.

I’m not sure where I’ve heard it, but i think it’s 10,000:1, conversion also has a CD and after a given period of time guilds won’t be able to convert any more influ.

The zoo meta was horrible in PvP. The turret meta was horrible too. We don’t need more AI in PvP.

I think there’s plenty of range between nuthin’ and 95% mitigation that could bring more variety to the current meager list of competitive builds. Saying things are “fine” right now is just cruelty to the abused and under used skills. Something that can move us back to a point between ‘horrible’ and ‘non-existent’.

Necro minions are being used.

I’m confident the balance team can pull the metrics and catch my drift .

No. There is no middle ground. AI builds take a lot less effort to make them work (basically close to no effort, judging by the past), the moment they become as good as any other build it’s not fine. AI carrying bad players against others way out of their league is not fine – spirit ranger, MM nec, turret engi have all been the focus of community outrage in the past.

Not every build deserves to be the same in terms of strength, in an ideal world hard builds are also the most effective ones and AI builds should be absolutely bottom tier.

Anet knew this in GW1, they nuked every single AI spec for Pvp by splitting the skills eventually making them useless. One can only hope they go back to their roots.

Don’t underestimate Hammer. Staff isn’t really super defensive set either, it’s more utility based. Good player with Hammer can really do a lot of burst and mess in teamfight, much more than Sword #3.

Excuse me, but you sound a bit like a person who watched a lot of streams and Phantaram playing and think you already know everything about Revenant. You don’t.

Didn’t watch too much of phantaram during betas, but I did play revenant whenever it was available, so I think I know something about it

Hammer is indeeed a very powerful weapon, but it’s best used in premades where you won’t really be forced out of your role and can rely on teammates for support.

I was mostly using sword/axe staff, staff allows me to go for more offensive stuff like the axe off-hand or even zerker amulet in some cases because of how well you can disengage with it especially combo’d with shiro.

I’m not against using hammer, I’m just saying that for a 2nd set you’ll need a staff, whatever your build is.

Sword set is for bursting, 2nd set should help you survive. Btw staff also has somewhat decent damage, skill 5 actually does more than decent dmg.

if you run marauder you take hammer. if you run something more tanky you take staff.

It’s like saying “thief shortbow is for condi builds only”.

All of PvE, any creature attacks.

What about conditions?

Also, pets in AOE in PvP is absolutely not fine. If there was a similar system, but 50% or so in PvP, that would be great.

Notice the lack of viability in Minions/Spirit Weapons/Rangers/Phant builds, all having a huge root in pet survivability?

I don’t mind them being killed, but they are way too weak to AOE spam in PvP just as well.

Also, with them less susceptible to AOE, there would be less risk of cheese-killing when a bar full of minions trigger Death Nova at once (because they’d die less often).

The last thing PvP needs is viable, or even top tier AI specs.

Sounds great Colin! Looking forward to the new guild content.

Howver, as for Guilds and Guild Halls – on behalf of the tPvP community I’m begging you, please add an option to make the Guild Arena use PvP gear. This is killing this feature for PvP guilds as there’s basically no reason for use to own a GH, or even if we get one and build an arena we couldn’t make good use of it.

The arena would be a crucial part of guild hosted minigames, 1v1 tournaments with custom terrains and so on, and the fact that PvP guilds won’t be able to use it is more than disappointing.

Imo Staff isn’t something you can replace, it’s a mandatory weapon because of its desfensive capabilities (block, evade, condi cleanse). Even that damage can be great with #5 not to mention how handy that instant CC is.

Taking it out would be a yolo move :P But we’ll see.

also i think ppl forget about reveal trap/mechanism which will be add soon

guardian can reveal, engi can ranger can. so more stealth will bring more reveal tactics to the game

also p/p thieves may use the trapper runes and gain stealth abilities

So far no reveal skill is being used neither in PvP nor WvW for a single reason – you have to sacrifice important skill for that – mostly survival one like stun break, condi removal etc.

If Anet won’t rework Revealed system and properly adjust it to current skills, then it’s a no go.

More and more engineers are taking the reveal trait in tools, also Heralds will get a reveal skill they can’t un-equip even if they want to, and it has ~20 sec cd.

You need 2 points to win the game. If they zerg in 3v1 or even 4v1, your team can outnumber them on 2 other points = you win.

Zerging is a very legit way to lose a game.

If you are talking about hotjoin, that’s not really PvP. Try unranked/ranked.

What people fail to realize is that the other 2 light armored classes, cele signet necro and shatter Mesmer, beat dd eles.

Cele nec is a 50/50 matchup for DD, and even then the nec can only kill the ele if the ele wants to die – he can just disengage anytime and the nec can’t chase him down, then give the ele a couple of seconds, he’ll reset and come back, after a while the ele shall outsustain the nec.

And there is a solid 1 out of 10 chance that a shatter mes can beat an equally skilled DD ele – and then, again, the ele can just run away with RTL/FGS/LF, reset, and will lose to this tactic faster than a nec.

I’ve played and gave my feedback already. The lack of LF gain on OH dagger is still there, they’ve reduced max LF gain from Feast of Corruption, Grasping Dead used to have 3 stacks of bleed anyway, Lingering Curse is even more trash, Terror doesn’t feel rewarding and strong enough, you still rely on corrupt and transfer, Dhuumfire is still wet with Life Blast, Master of Terror competes with Vital Persistence etc.

As for condi necro possibly being MM and a simple soldier d/WH would outshine anything a necro with scepter could just having a scepter means you are not bunker. Condi Reaper can’t use Spite losing uptime boons for Blighter’s Boon and damage pressure it also relies on CPC and inaccurate Whirl Bolts,MoC is competing with Terror and reaper barely has fear of it’s own. Deathly Chill competes with etc.

Just going dire makes you lose Plague Sending or Engi IP etc. This supposed godliness of condi dire gear is false I understand perplexity but that is more of mesmer issue.

This is the pvp forum, I’m not talking about dire gear,but condi nec in general, sorry if my previous comment was misleading.

You were trying to make an outdated condi nec work btw. Terrormancer is dead, you have to move on, you have to focus on boon corruption and signets, similar to cele nec. Also LC is the worst curses GM trait, you need WS.

I just really hope that the new 6/6’s healing is nowhere near Necro’s Signet of the Locust, that would potentially be even more OP on cele specs than the current bonus, healing up some players to ~50% HP immediately after the burst.

Hah, now you try to shift the argument in to semantics. Fine, so how much “plural” is enough for your argument? You got to decide that right? 50%? 80%? 20% population?

If you now decided to argue based on the population, then stop citing Phantaram and Wakkey for “ele too strong”. On one hand, arguing using what the people “can” do with Ele as a whole, and on the other hand ask for nerf using the number of Ele in high level tournament; that’s a shameful act that doesn’t benefit the balance of this game. You just try to cherry pick data to fit your confirmation bias.

If you think Ele has too much sustain, get your Fire Cele Ele in and duel with my Mesmer. Let’s see how much sustain you have.
Reviewed the list of threads cakeonroof posted. You and Saiyan were the biggest forum warriors claiming Ele were too strong because of burning. Now that Ele burning was needed, you switched to ask for healing nerfed. I’m pretty sure after that you will continue to ask for mobility nerf too, since you don’t seem to be able to deal with Ele no matter how easy it is to deal with them.

Are you implying that a DD ele should ever lose to a shatter mesmer in 1v1? lol?

In your opinion, when would something be worthy of a nerf? I think if a game has 8 classes, with at least 1 viable build for each class, yet roughly 40% of the tournament population consists of 1 build while ESL has to take steps against ele stacking then something’s not right.

Not to mention that this isn’t only a tournament problem, any slightly above average DD ele can hold his ground against top players.

Lets not confuse things here.

All the complaints are from SoloQ and what SoloQ players perceived in Unranked/Ranked PvP. Honestly, the change to RoF was still needed for these Solo QQing players but that’s my own opinion on the matter.

The competitive players in high tier pvp – Team vs Team or ESL / WTS tournaments, would tell you that it’s entirely Ele’s Sustains in Team fights that makes them OP. That 4 Ele comp didn’t win a tournament off of their damages alone. It was because of their incredible mobility to rotate the map and bunk a point.

Phantaram himself said that the Might stacking nerf was good enough but… he’s Phantaram. He doesn’t want his class to perform worse than it already is.

Pretty much this. If you 2v1 an ele and he disengages, you either keep chasing with 2 people which isn’t the best thing to do, or 1 of you will leave and the ele just resets itself in less than 10 seconds, then comes back and probably takes the 1v1 but at least it survives.

Phantaram’s a great player and such, but Abjured runs a double ele comp and each time ele was too OP they happened to win WTS, it’s not really his interest to get the right things nerfed especially with a 400k tournament coming up.

That is actually not correct.
Many people actually stated that burn damage was fine but sustain was the real culprit of ^2 state of elementalists.

Also the un-“balance” team employed at ANet did not really nerf RoF but created a skill that was a little bit more forgiving to bad players and much less forgiving to good players.

The only real nerf I can remember from the top of my head was the might stack via cantrips nerf.

Pretty much this, and it’s still possible to get 20-25 might stacks on ele it just takes slightly more effort (which is the same as pre-patch).

I downloaded game last night and figured i’d buy the expansion out of boredom. All I’ve been interested in was the small scale pvp and what is horrible is a player who hasn’t even played a full 24 hours still leads the team in points. I don’t see a reason why a level 3 should even be in a team composition of level 80’s let alone be on top of the board for those matches.

1) Personal score means nothing. It’s confusing, i know, but it really doesn’t matter at all.
2) PvE level doesn’t matter in PvP. Many top players play in lvl 2 characters because they have no reason to level them.
3) Hotjoin/practice mode/game browser/custom arenas, whatever they are called now, is not real PvP, those lvl 80s were likely PvE players farming daily achievements.

In general, play unranked and ranked.

there should be a hotjoin for only rank 1 – 30 players

ofc that still can make quite some difference between 1 and 30
but
it removes the TONS of mostly r70-80 players who really farm new unexperienced players in hotjoin nowadays
the high rank players stack on 1 team every match and just destroy the other team…

new players cant even really learn their class… since they get instakilled 90% of the time… they cant even learn to counter
and they dont even try to learn often because they stop with PvP after getting so demoralised by this bad system in Hotjoin

so i think this hotjoin for lowranked players only would be a nice thing
ofc veterans with alt accounts can still farm them but it would still reduce the amount of people who actually do that to new players a lot i think

In hotjoin you only learn how to cap a point with 5 people, never defend, fight builds that don’t exist not even in elohelljust zerg in a group, how to join the winning team, etc.

Hotjoin is the worst place you can go to if you want to learn the game. If you want to learn and escape this toxic hellhole then go unranked.

There is no “practice” until you fight with your guild hall’s arena for practice and learning.

Too bad the arena uses PvE gear so it can’t be used for PvP practicing. :/

But now you actually have to put some minimal effort into stacking might, so some of the baddies are rerolling from DD eles to burn guards that’s why you see more burn guard QQ threads than ele ones, but DD’s still the most broken thing in the game.

Might stacking was never an issue on DD/SD Eles. The might on cantrip nerf pretty much only affected staff builds …..

Burns overall should have been addressed because the damage they do is absurd. Not just the ele burns.

Staff builds used Earth/Water/Arcana and not Fire, so i don’t get your point unless you’re talking about hotjoin zerker staff eles which is irrelevant in balance discussions.

If they only do balance patches twice a year they better make it count imo, kitten small nerfs..

Well, the best way to nerf any OP class is to do so little by little. That way, you bring them down without wrecking the class. However, the risk is that you don’t nerf them enough and well…sometimes that happens.

The devs have a bad habit of nerfing with a hammer. I feel recently they have been more moderate, and I like that.

Elementalist is a mess to balance. They are top-tier everywhere (PvE, PvP, group and roaming WvW). But then suddenly they created a different PvE content and people fear that ele will be trash tier there…

They recently nerfed D/D ele while buffing scepter. D/D ele is still god-mode, scepter is still bad. But that’s the right direction, and considering how busy they are with HoT, you could not expect a more in-depth patch.

Except Anet is always too busy. When it’s not HoT they’ll find another excuse, just like they did in the last 3 years.

When you drop below 50% health, cast Signet of the Locust.
40-50s CD.

I like this idea.

That signet scales too well with healing power, could potentially become OP on bunker/cele specs with the expansion – it could instantly send you back to 100% HP.

2 things:

1. You missed out the fact that Apex played with 0 eles in the NA go4 and beat other teams with 2 eles besides Abjured.

2. I don’t see the point in complaining when HoT is just round the corner is is gonna screw the meta up, they obviously aren’t going to change anything before then.

With HoT, DD ele might become standard balance level, do you want to play a game like that? They need to nerf things not increase the powercreep just so some specs might beat currently broken specs.

Rune of Vampirism in its current state isn’t healthy for the game – it’s a passive jail free card every 60 seconds that can completely negate a coordinated burst of 3 players and even elite skills on 3 minute CD like Moa. The situation is so bad that sometimes ESL teams agree not to use it at live tournaments because it kills not just skillful play but the fun for both the players and viewers.

If it won’t get removed then at least it should be changed by moving the passive proc from 20% HP to 90% – this way it could still prevent players from being instakilled from stealth before the fight even begins, but it couldn’t negate big CDs or well executed burst in teamfights. Also increase CD to 90 seconds.

Thoughts?

Do not underestimate the nature of good-humored, player-regulated, extremely casual PvP. Those people who farm dailies in custom arenas and have a good time today may very well move on to unranked and ranked in the future.

Except what they are doing is not PvP – they just cap and decap a point with 8-10 people, if you draw your weapon you are banned.

These people aren’t a part of the PvP community because what they are doing is not PvP, it’s match manipulation. The chance of these people ever moving on to unranked/ranked is close to 0, and if they do, they will be more lost than someone who just started the game 1 hour ago.

Remove PvP dailies and rewards from Custom arenas.

So only ESL players will be present in HotM and that PvP thing.

Finally this thing will die and there will be a reason to delete it.
