Once eles get nerfed condi ranger might become a thing. Ranger is viable unless you wan to play at ESL tournaments, so it shouldn’t hold you back. It’s just not the most optimal pick but has its moments.
What do you mean by maxing out btw? You can pvp from lvl 2, PvE gear and level doesn’t matter.
If you want “legendary” titles then tie them to the Legendary division once the league system’s in place. X wins in the legend divison = you get a title, like champ titles in GW1. That would actually set a decent long term goal.
How would you know if you have a high or low MMR? Is it based on game win ratio and/or personal match scores?
If ques take 5+ minutes just to throw you together with people who never played PvP before in order to balance out your MMR against a team of the same composition then you have a high MMR.
I hope it never comes back. Everything is more imporant than spending resources or even spare time on SAB.
Bunker guardian is one of the hardest ones imo. Yeah sure it has tons of sustain, but the hard part is to keep as much of your CDs for your allies as possible.
Shatter mesmer/thief is also kind of hard, but these are being carried by passive procs from traits and runes of vampirism atm.

What bothers me the most is that Anet is just trying to pretend this isn’t happening.
There has been 2 NA teams and 2 China teams in the past. Can there be 4 NA teams in the WTS? Is it simply who ever reaches a certain point threshold or is it top 4 teams period?
There are regional qualifiers. Each region’s winning team goes to WTS, except if the WTS is being hosted in your region, because then that region’s #2 team can also attend, that’s how you get the 4 teams. WTS 3 was in Germany that’s why there were 2 EU teams.
So someone in this thread mentioned multiple counters to a D/D ele.
Has he(or she) listed the builds that can hardcounter an ele yet?
Or was that just a lie?
That list is a joke. More than half of those builds are useless and couldn’t even beat a bad DD ele. There is no counter to DD ele, fighting on even terms itself is a miracle.
With cele nec maybe you can take the point, but the ele can always just decide to disengage and reset the fight or use its mobility to outrotate you.

Problem is DD ele is neither rock, paper or scissors it’s a kittening terminator.

Each year they do 1 massive thing:
- 2013 – dhuumfire/hambow/etc patch.
- 2014 – celestial buff, rune rework
- 2015 – specialization patch
Then, usually 6 months later they’ll do 1 massive balance patch. Then what’s still broken will remain broken until their next massive patch that changes everything yet again.
Don’t worry, if we are lucky, we’ll get a patch in 4-5 months. They said they’ll keep doing patches every 2nd week after the spec patch, well.. 0 real balance patches so far, only minor changes to 1 or 2 builds.

As the title says, this is a minority game mode yet it is holding the other 2 quite literally hostage balance wise.
After condi patch, necros and condi mesmers are still at bottom, only thing thats changed is burn burn eles and burn engis guards became viable but still underperforming.
I’ve heard that actually Sinister condi engi has the highest DPS in PvE atm. And with the change to fractals (higher levels will increase mob toughness) it’ll become even more viable.
There are plenty of things Anet could nerf/buff in pve or WvW that wouldn’t affect PvP at all. For instance Ice Bow is such a dominant part of the PvE meta that basically every build’s viability depends on how well they can utilise it. Nothing holds them back, except the QQ on the ele forum.
They could also balance WvW condi thief, perplexity etc, because that wouldn’t affect other gamemodes either.

They all used the builds found under the Meta category of Ranked Arena with the exception an engineer using a slightly modied version of Soldier Rifle, oRNG running a warrior and a guardian using this and this and TCG running a shoutbow
Another solution I’m really mad at is the carebear approach of “If you reach x score you don’t lose pips” – no. This is bad. Unless that score is ~490, this is a really horrible, non-competitive solution.
If you lost the match, you lost the match. Don’t sugarcoat it, make them lose those pips. This is infuriating. We are so close to finally have a working system, and then they would mess this up with this carebear approach.
Competitive or PvE casual, pick your target audience for PvP already because you can’t have both.

I wouldn’t put Vaans into the top 10. He might be good by WvW standards but WvW is just a larger version of hotjoin where the cap points have walls and you can access all kinda of imba pve runes/consumables etc.
What is your opinion about the Ascalon discussion?
I think the fact that people can be so passionate about Ascalon and both sides have their supporters for different reasons is amazing.
You’d think Anet would take this opportunity and expand this plot because it has so much potential. But no. Eversince the release of GW2, Anet demonized Ascalonian humans and gave the middlefinger to all of the GW1 fans. We even have events to destroy their statues, their legacy.. where can I do the same to the charr?
It’s a shame to see Anet destroy this part of the lore. I bet Rytlock will channel Rurik and undo the foefire too, freeing the land from those evil evil humans…
TL;DR Anet made this great debate into a onesided arguement by supporting the charr in every possible situation and hating on Ascalonians.

- Anet must either add more weapons because condi builds can’t even have a 2nd set, or remove CD from weapon swap (we have CD on legend swap, that should be enough). This way revenants can swap to the 2nd set for utility and then immediately switch back to main.
- Revenant needs ways to disengage. Basically every current teleport requires a target, can only work with line of sight, and if not then it’ll return you to where you started (Hammer 3). They just enter the fight, get focused and die atm – no teleports for disengage, no invuln, no stealth, nothing. Maybe the Jalis elite, if you can pull off a 2s+ channel that costs 50 energy while being focused, not going to happen.
Reposting Shadows is an evade and a disengage and it removes movement impairing effects. Unyielding Anguish is also a fantastic disengage since it creates a teleport wall that people can’t pass.
RS is slow, has a high energy cost and follows terrain + can’t escape things like Slick Shoes or Ring of Warding. You are right, UA is by far the best the revenant has, but suffers from the mostly the same issues as RS.
Revenant needs stealth on shiro or sword, imo. Maybe instead of immob on skill 4 after the block we should get stealth? Or both stealth + immob?

I can’t play a game without at least 1 person DC’ing in pvp, meanwhile 500-1k ping is normal, sometimes more.. I wish Anet noticed this issue.
Why not just buff everyone else up to the ele’s and mesmer level?
That’s called creating powercreep, which’s a very effective way to destroy a game. They need to draw a line somewhere, and if a build goes over it the build must be nerfed.

DD cele ele. By far the most OP spec in the game. It has great mobility, condi pressure, power pressure, sustain, party support, AoE cleave. It’s great at everyting, only thing it doesn’t have is stealth, but I guess it’s just a matter of time.
The proposed ele nerfs were great imo, listening to ele forum QQ was a huge mistake.

True, but they release the previous 3 elite specs in 3 consecutive weeks. If they take a break after 1 now then that’s very bad news regarding the release date imo.

But as for the screen shot…. its mainly the terrible stances of the models. Its subtle, but all off-hands are positioned to assume the character is using a Shield. This over pronounces the position of the left arm, and leaves the wrist in a bad position that holding anything remotely long puts it dangerously close to the person’s face.
They can’t even make the claim that its a good parry position; as even looking at it causes triggers a sympathetic spatial awareness warning. Not even the most claustrophobic jump puzzles in the game managed to cause that feeling.
Krysard is correct, there is currently not an active season running, so the leaderboards are frozen.
Is MMR affected by a ranked win or lose at this time period?
If warrior would be oneshotting teamfights with autoattacks from the other side of the map this guy would still be asking for buffs.

I am talking about 5v5 here, ranked, competitive pvp. The damage is just broken and abusive and if you don’t have your dodge up you’re done for, doesn’t matter what you play. There is so much more going on in 5v5 than just the engi you would have to dodge, so don’t compare it to 1v1, please.
Not to mention the downed cleave part. It kills the downed and everyone ressing him.
Specializations were implemented yesterday (without the flashy background though, that’ll come later this week) and we’ve got most of the builds covered already, at least on a concept level – we have some ideas based on our own predictions as well as some top players’ and plan to have at least 2 up to date builds for each profession for PvP within 24 hours of the patch’s launch.
Others already pointed out that builds will go through many changes before they reach a final state, so in the first couple of days most builds will be “v1.0” and the placements (good/great/trash) are far from final.
Skill tooltips will be updated right after we get to see the patch notes, traits will be more detailed towards the end of the week.
Also the more user contributions we get the faster we can sort things out. But before making an edit try to give a brief reasoning on the proper discussion page, by this we can eliminate counterproductive edits.
We’ll also wait 1-2 weeks before labeling anything as “meta” because “the meta is changing at an alarming rate” – Grouch 2015 :P

You mean last thief standing. Wait in stealth until others kill each other, and then backstab the winner. So much fun.
There are custom arenas and unranked queue for that.
That’s a lot of extra money. You have to buy the CA, then pay for it every day. If you want to test builds against friends/guildmates or have a 1v1 or 2v2 tournament with your guild the guild arena is a much better place for that than Forest.
As of now there is absolutely no reason for PvP guilds to own a GH and that’s sad.
In Custom Arenas you can set the gamemode and practice on tournament maps. Some people made it to be 1v1 arenas but that was never the intended way to use these.
Guild Arena is more like a combat practice platform.
GH isn’t Heart of the Mist so it is neither Conquest nor Stronghold. As you can already see in the video or heard or read from somewhere, GH is for PvE character.
The Arena is for WvWers and PvPers who want to train or just come up with new styles of play since you can put traps and other elements into the arena.
As the GH is basically a PvE zone, chances are the arena will require lvl 80 and PvE gear. So it’s not really for PvP players unless it is instanced within the instance.

I’m fairly certain that Greatsword Warriors plague hot-join.
Hotjoin is as far from real PvP as it can get, so that doesn’t count. Most of the players use PvE builds to get dailies there.
Making both PoC and Terror a Master trait is just horrible. It’s going to hurt condi necs a lot.. one of these should become GM.
Yes, the single most desired profession for any team since day 1 needs more buffs for sure..
Players shouldn’t be able to see the enemy team until the match starts. This way the teams could still refine their comps before the match starts (rerolling after seeing that you have 3 thieves for instance) but there wouldn’t be counter comping.
I believe this was discussed months ago and we got some dev responses but it was either forgotten or will be added by HoT. A little transparency would be nice so we don’t discuss redundant things.
My complaint is that it’s too zergy and heavily PvE oriented atm. I gave some radical suggestions in other topics, but I think there might be a lot easier way.
Make damage interrupt supply channeling but not hero channeling. I liked the way it currently works at first, but it is actually a huge problem. Running supply 24/7, spawning NPCs like there is no tomorrow is one of the greatest issues – if Anet makes it so that any form of damage can interrupt channels just like on Temple then people will actually have duels/teamfights for supply not to mention there will be less NPCs running around thus it’ll be less heavy on PvE.
Shiro = single target burst, mobility (teleports)
Glint = AoE/CC
These are the only things left as we already have 1 condi (Mallyx), 1 heal/support (Ventari) and 1 tank/support (Jalis).

Well there’s this one. The only difference between Mace/Shield and Mace/Sword is that with off-hand sword you have a better block and lot higher pressure but no CC.
