Bow rangers are underpowered. You can reflect, line of sight, block, CC the ranger, etc. If they are full zerk bow/gs after they burn their few seconds of imune they are dead.

I was on my thief when an engineer friend of mine challenged me for a duel… You can tell how this went…:( it was humiliating. I run the standard d/p trickery thief. Any tips on handling engineers in general? Turret engis are an exception. Was thinking who better to ask than engineers themselves.

Did you try p/d perplexity with thieves guild? Or a zerker build, force him to use supply crate, stealth reset the fight with no turrets open with thieves guild.

Thieves guild is almost insta win 1v1.

My idea to nerf both traits:

Make IP a adept trait but reduce the duration from 4s to a 2s burning. Put accelerant-packed turrets as a master.

Making accelerant-packed master again turret engi will lose the knock backs or will have to sacrifice the damage or boons from turrets.

IP going from 4s to 2s would reduce its dmg by 50%. Making meta cele engi and condi engis a bit weaker. Also been an adept trait would give other builds more viability.

Win win situation. Nerf cele/condi 2 kit engi and turret.

Another alternative would be keep IP as master but reduce duration to 2s and make it aoe.

Your IP changes are pretty much HUGE buffs. It would be a case of anet trying to nerf something but they are so incompetent that they actually buff it. Like with the thief initiative changes. It is pretty common they try to nerf stuff and actually buff it actually. As they over-complicate things.

The duration of IP is irrelevent. If you dont cleanse a 3-4s burn you will die anyway. So it wont be any change from the current 6s burn (with condi duration).

The only way to really nerf it would be to increase its icd to something like 30 seconds.

Really you are wrong. I know because when they made the same change to dhuumfire the effect was basically non existant.

It isnt like losing 1k dmg at all. And yes pretty much all builds do have condi clear that is so frequent.

And condi duration has never really been as good as condi damage except with respect to fear which is a CC. Condi duration is usually wasted because there is so much cleanse in the game and much of it is AoE too.

No you are wrong. 4s is still a short time for people to remove that burn. With so many other conditions covering it the chances are it will tick for almost full duration and rng may end up removing the others. If it was 2s the max possible dmg would be lower.

Also not everyone is a d/d ele with almost infinite condi removal. Engi, mesmer, etc may end up taking the entire burning duration.

ip used to be an adept. back then, every build splashed explosives for it. even at “only” 2 seconds its a ridiculous dps increase for an adept slot.

Well considering that all grenade engis put max points in that traitline and get a 4s burning it been adept or not wouldn’t be a problem.The problem is the duration. They are already maxing that traitline anyway.

The vast majority of Rangers and of Engineers that I encounter in WvW do NOT USE Sic em or Analyze. In fact I do not recall ever running into an engineer that uses analyze. Even my own ranger when in game rarely has sic em traited as stealth is just not that big a deal.

This means the effects of stealth are being vastly overstated by those in the con camp asking for yet more restrictions on the same. These two classes have decided they would rather trait other traits they deem more useful.

This is simply a matter of “I do not want to take these utilities”. The OP has no case.

-engi: basically any roaming build needs 2 kits (tool kit+grenade/bomb) leaving only 1 free slot that is normally used to have 1 stun breaker normally the only stun breaker in the entire build. Gadgets are underpowered and lack trait synergy. That is the reason almot no engi uses utility googles.

-ranger: sick them has high cooldown and is situational. Is also a shout, having little synergy with the builds.

Is the same issue as boon vs boon removal. Boons will work for you always, but boon removal will only be useful if the enemy has boons. For stealth it is even more situational, because among 8 classes only 2 are heavy stealth users.

They could make the healing be based on the healing power of the guy casting the field. Like what they did with venon share thief, the conditions from shared venons use the condition dmg from the thief and not from the players receiving the venons..

I really don’t actually. There is an amount of objectiveness to the lack of counter-ability of low cooldown instant attacks when the design philosophy of the game is to read your enemy and react. This is the deflective and hostile attitude I was talking about forever ago. I’m totally incredible now because I have a strong sense of knowing what I’m talking about, and I won’t “bend” because people are overly defensive of their class. There are a lot of people who didn’t want or think Dhuumfire needed to change, too. Same with the old Hambow, and so forth. That doesn’t mean suddenly opposition of those specs and specific abilities in question had to stop because someone said “no you’re wrong, its fine”. I have no REASON to “bend”. I know what I’m talking about because I do it myself. It’s incredibly potent and easy and in my OPINION far too much. I get angry when people instantly start with this “l2p I’m fine, you don’t know anything and you’re too demanding” junk. It has been proven time and time again all of these people who think they’re great aren’t actually that great and don’t have proper understanding of their classes when brought down to a reasonable level and decide to jump ship. I’m very willing to bend, if presented with arguments on why I’m wrong. I’ve had nothing but angry people tell me how wrong I am since I got here and how I need to learn to play, when I’m describing what I’m personally doing to other players… How can I even take people seriously when they don’t even display decent reading comprehension?

The op asked a engi nerf in the engis subforum. The great majority will just read nerf+engi and say no.

If this was posted in the spvp subforum the replies would be different. Just look at the several threads made asking a nerf to IP.

Clearly scepter does not need another blast finisher. Could get some improvement? Yes, but lack of blast finisher is not a problem for scepter.

Slick Shoes – Nerf the duration of the oil on the ground to 1s. This will make the skill do what it was originally intended to do.

Super Speed – Nerf this cooldown back to 45 seconds again.

Gear Shield – Nerf the cooldown to 30s.

Incendiary Powder – Nerf it.

Invigorating Speed – Nerf the cooldown to 10s.

I agree with 1,2 and 3. But I think invigorating speed is fine. Would rather see a nerf to the boon vigor itself. Similar to what they did too might.

Instead of 100% extra regen could be 50% or 75%. Would reduce the survivability of almost every meta build and make some traits and skills like signet of stamina more useful.

Shouldn’t be minor traits and so easily obtained. This is giving even direct dmg builds a lot of bleeding. We need something more generic as minor trait and maybe merge this condition on crit with other condi build traits.

Some skills that have multiple hits also shouldn’t apply bleed. Like ice bow #4. Maybe change that for vulnerability.

Spvp and WvW are much higher priority than dungeons balance. Stuff like making more stacks but reducing its durations would be a huge buff to condi roamers and builds like a fearmancer. Bleeding bursting faster equals less time for people to clear them before they do serious dmg.

Buffing condition coefficient is madness. I would reroll back to a fearmancer in spvp if that happens. P/d thieves and other perplexity builds would become god mode in roaming. Again the problem is not condis is the direct dmg. Maybe putting a cap at the maximung bouns you can get to direct dmg would help it. Make like a cap at 25-30. Or rework those flat %dmg traits into something more useful for spvp/wvw.

Instead of buffing condis we just need a nerf to direct dmg or make bosses more resistant to it. And less randon condi application on crit/hit from minor traits.

Staff ele has only 3: gust, unsteady ground and static field. All 3 are high cooldown. Gust wont land unless the enemy is almost melee range and the other 2 are ground target. In a lot of cases people can just walk around unsteady ground.

Will Bolts of Damask ever drop in price?

Hey guys, so I want opinions. I understand the reasons for bolts of damas being as expensive as they are, but do you think they’ll ever drop in price? The main reason I’m wondering is because I’m considering making a full set of ascended light armor eventually, so I’ve quit making zojjas insignias for profit and instead started saving all the spools of silk weaving thread I make daily while I decide how I want to go about this. If damask is likely going to stay steady in price, then I should just start making it now. If, however, damask will eventually fall in price, I should continue selling damask and just buy damask whenever it drops in price. Opinions?

I don’t see that happening, unless anet reverts the change and make 1 bolt of silk require 2 silk scraps like it used to be.

Is OP talking about bags or bag slots? Bags are fairly cheap and you can buy one with candy corn cobs for like 3-5g.

As for bag slots I agree that they should be account bound. Similar to what they did with the commander tag. Triple the gem price but make them account bound.

He’s talking about a bag, that is shared by all characters,, without the need to move stuff into bank -into next character.

Like a bank incorporated to the inventory. That actually would be a great quality of life improvement. But I guess it would stop people from buying multiple gem store items for multiple characters.

Excellent CC, excellent damage, excellent survivability, excellent mobility. Something seems off.

You keep the word “excellent” for things that are only “average”. Staff has excellent damage, moderately good CC, but the rest is pretty average. If staff has “excellent mobility” then what would you call a thief or warrior? “Ultra super duper excellent mobility of the extreme excellence”?

When I mentioned excellent mobility, I include the easily available swiftness. And explain to me if staff eles have moderately good CC, who has excellent CC?

Excelent dmg if people decide to sit on lava font and meteor shower. When that is not the case your dmg is very low. Excelent cc? Air has 2 on a long cooldown and gust almost never lands unless you are almost melee range.

I agree with OP. It should be a blast finisher.

There is some sort of ranger hate in all the game modes. Some people hate them in eotm and wvw because they are always knocking the boss back. Some people hate rangers in pve because the huge majority of the bear/bow campers. And some people hate rangers in spvp because zerker bow looks and spirit builds both look simple and have a low skill floor.

While in conquest mode stealth and 100% runaway is ok because that makes you lose the point in stronghold it will be broken. There will be probably nerfs to steath coming with stronghold.

I once tried to play a celestial necro. The biggest problem is that it doesn’t make enough use of healing power and if you try to atapt it for wvw roaming the lack of mobility kills the class.

Eles have: regen + heal on dodge (at water) + heal when attuning to water + soothing mist + dagger 5/staff3

Engis: heal on kit + healing turret + regen +very high block up time

war: healing signet + adrenal heal+ shouts + regen from dogged march

Necro has only: lackluster signet +regen +some weak healing traits. Necro also relies too much in DS bar regen, which is not affected by your healing power.

I lol everytime I see these posts, bottom line, learn how to fight a thief before you complain about their CLASS MECHANIC. Wanna know how to fight a thief? kitten them off mentally, just walk away from wherever they stealth and if they attack you AoE/burst them and if they run away let them! Eventually their patience will run thin and they will go HAM to try and kill you without dying which is when you open up a can of whoopass and drop them OR…..they say the heck with it, and go find another victim to toy with PROBLEM SOLVED.

Stealth is not a class mechanic. The stealth attacks with #1 and steal are. Engis, mesmers, rangers can also stealth. If using runes of infiltrator any class can stealth. Eles underwater have a smoke field that can be used to stealth.

Counter Strike 1.6, Age of Empires 2, heck, even Quake or EnemyT. , spaces in between MMO expansions, any CoD, popularity of MOBAs (despite only couple new skins or characters introduced from time to time).

I don’t think that either PvE or WvW will be ever “balanced” in this game. No roles, almost no unique bonuses, specific tactics that just work better than others, one-two gearsets and nerd-toxic parts of dungeon community. Too many variables. You introduce one new food, bam, kitten hits the fan and suddenly you broke the game.

Spvp right now is basically zerker or celestial for the great majority. WvW actually has more roles than conquest mode.

Don’t underestimate PvP community. PvPers are probably the most loyal and consistent community part of games. May not be the biggest in this game, but who knows, IF GvG ladders come live with Stronghold, it may change quite significantly.

Do you have anything to back up what you said? Probably not. I could say that any other community is the most loyal with no prof and would be as valid as your statement.

I don’t think stronghold will result in a nerf for cc in pve. Did you watch the stream? The guild lord had a defiance bar instead of defiance stacks. When the warrior used fear me it dropped from 100% to 20-25% maybe now different CCs will have a different impact in defiance.

I agree with op. Trying to merge moba with mmorpg is bad for the game.

The 2 game modes are contradicting each other. Mobas have basically 1 map, 1 game mode and 100% of the balance in done focusing that one mode. Mmorpgs in the other hand have much more game modes, such as dungeons, pve, diverse pvp modes, etc. Making the balance trying to be a moba is why the rest of the game has 0 balance.

Now we get a new map, stronghold. How are you going to balance it now? Some builds that don’t seem broken in conquest will be in stronghold due to no necessity to fight in nodes. Some builds that are good in conquest will be too weak in stronghold. How are you going to balanced it?

Open world content should never be too hard because you can’t really control who is on the map unless you bring massive numbers to force new overflows. I would rather see hard content inside instances.

Karma can be turned into linen scraps, cotton, etc. You also get gold at the end of the fractal.

Stronghold Will Ruin PvE Balance

I believe stronghold been taken in consideration to the future class balance will have a great side effect for wvw and pve.

Now we have a official spvp mode that does not consist of fight in a small node. Now it will be evident that some build/classes sucks when not fighting in a node. And some others are just too strong when having to stay in the node is not required.

Eles have 8k less hp than warrior/necros and 5k less than mesmer/engi/ranger. Eles also are light armor users. Makes sense to give them more evades and high protection uptime.

If something needs a nerf is the boon vigor itself. Note how basically every meta build has very high vigor uptime. Shoutbow, shatter mesmer, thief, 2kit engi, guardians, etc all have a lot of vigor uptime with almost 0 investment for it.

If you want to just make interclass comparisons lets first ask a nerf for a minor trait that reduces weapon swap cooldown from 10s to 5s. Or complain about a minor trait that reduces the cooldown of ilusions utilities and ilusion skills for all weapons ….

You can buy ascended rings with them. I think that is enough reward for fractals considering normal dungeons give you no ascended.

Fractal is already giving way too much rewards right now. You get free 20 slot bags, dozens of ascended rings, can buy obsidian sharts, one of the highest changes to get ascended chests and unique skins. Also get gold and karma.

Now let’s see normal dungeons: gold and tokens to buy exotics.

Why buff the rewards?
I don’t remember anet saying fractal should be the best reward in the game. It is working as intended.

I didn’t see cast bars. The only thing I notice was that instead of defience stacks the lord had a defience bar, that went from 100% to around 30% when the warrior used Fear Me.

At what time did you see a cast bar?

For those complaining about it using the same queue as conquest you can get your 5 votes and have a 50% chance or more to get the map.

You would need to always be a full team and also you wouldn’t always get the option to play Stronghold,

Strange you just suggested people to get 20 players in an organized custom arena but you can’t get 5 guys to vote in 1 map? Get 5 to vote together looks easier than what you suggested.
