It depends on your shout build specifics. The more boon uptime you have, the less you can care about saving shouts for the right moment. I have Pure of Voice and 6 in virtue trait line on my wvw bunker. I spam my shouts and save virtue of resolve and courage for oh crap moments.

I only have two problems:

  1. #1 doesn’t tilt to target. This is extremely dumb.
  2. #2 actually hits hard for a low cooldown weapon skill, but it’s unreliable because of the dumb bug that hasn’t been fixed since forever.

This is still a perspective from a Hybrid Bunker/DPS/Support WvW-er. I would use staff occasionally if these two problems didn’t exist.

Blind and Block vs. Protection have their own pros and cons. Blind and Block are good in a situation where you can see enemy’s movement. This happens in 1v1 to a small team fight. Protection however, helps you dive into an enemy zerg where you can’t really predict what each of the enemies is going to do. If you have huge retaliation up-time and damage, protection is much desired. This is the reason I love protection more than blind and block.

Protection is an up-time based boon, that means there is no problem using shield #4 on top of hold the line. It doesn’t make sense to say save yourselves’s protection becomes futile because we already have protection from hold the line. Same thing with just because we already have a lot of blinds and blocks, it doesn’t mean focus #4 and #5 suddenly become terrible.

Shield #4 is the only weapon skill that provide on-demand protection. Sure with hammer you can get 100% protection up-time, but at what cost? I don’t know about you, but AA-ing hammer all the way and bound by its symbol’s AoE sound terrible to me.

You see, it’s not as simple as 0% or 67%, or hammer is better than shield #4, or shield #4 is futile when we have hold the line, etc etc. If you can’t use shield, it doesn’t mean it’s not viable.

I don’t mind Anet caving in to reduce shield skill cooldowns, since everyone including guardians who know how to use shield is enjoying the buff. However, I would be upset if Anet replace protection with block / aegis. That’s just dumb..

Maybe remove the #4 protection duration reduction from PvP? I think it’ll help PvPers.

I would like an explanation for this, please. Otherwise my thought is below:

I hope there aren’t a lot of guardians have this kind of mentality. When shout was shining, people complained about meditation. Now that meditation is shining, people complain about shout. When does it end then? The thoughts are better spent on other aspects of guardian that haven’t shined at all.

Remember that shout gives you more diversed build options than meditation. It’s nice to not be forced to spend 6 trait points in Valor just for meditation and left with terrible minor traits.

Have you ever thought that maybe shout is not your cup of tea and you prefer meditation? It doesn’t mean shout is under-powered and meditation is the only viable guardian’s build.

I’m fine with the last three suggestions. But I don’t see the reasons why the rest should happen. I mean, an elite that depends on utility skills? We already have a healing skill that relies on traits, and IMO is terrible.

Well you saw recently very good buff to retreat skill so Dev’s think that shouts are not that strong, we may see some other buffs to shouts.

Can you explain the logic of that, please? What I understand is you think if a skill is underpowered, every other skill in its category is automatically underpowered? Where does it end?

Retreat’s buff was long overdue, and it needed the buff; but that doesn’t mean the rest of shout skills are not viable.

I’ve been running this build since the day they buffed rune of the pack. The difference is I now use berserker’s trinkets instead of knight’s. I am happy with my build, so I wouldn’t say your plan is not viable.

I also considered +20% boon duration food, but then -40% condition duration is just too hard to ignore in WvW.

For your question, unfortunately, I have never paid attention to it so I can’t answer it. Maybe I could test it later today after work.

I don’t play sPvP, but may I ask which particular shout build you are comparing meditation build to? “SY!” duration is cut by half in sPvP, which I think is a huge down side of running shout build in sPvP.

From my WvW point of view, I still prefer my shout build than my meditation, even though I really love the pokeball guardian build.

I posted this a few months ago. Be aware that you don’t have AH nor Monk’s Focus in that build (probably the reason why not a lot of people showed interest in that build) . If you are new to guardian and still struggle with survivability, I suggest trying AH or Med build first.

Using a med build, you can be a pokeball guardian: Start casting Ring of Warding, then teleport before the casting duration ends.

Aegis+ protection is better than just protection.

And candy + ice cream is better than just candy. I’m sure everyone gets that. However, some guardians here want to replace the protection. AFAIK, shield #4 is still the only weapon skill that can provide on-demand protection.

And in pve, aegis> protection.

Is that so? I haven’t been to PvE for a long time and never once used shield for it. Like I asked earlier, could you explain that please?

Also, is it a good idea to balance a weapon from PvE point of view?

Can anyone explain why 8 seconds of Aegis (traited & untraited) is better than 4 seconds of Protection? I’m kinda surprised the argument came from a guardian, to be honest.

I support adding a daze to #4. The skill cooldowns are fairly long (they are skill #4 and #5), but they are reasonable if you use the cooldown trait. I do think the trait could be moved to Adept, instead of Master level. Other than that, it’s already a good defensive weapon.

I would get mixed soldier / knight for trinkets and armor. The rest like sigils and runes should be based on your play style. Like, do you want more damage, or survivability?

A lot of people play Guardian because it’s easy and fun. So IMO, you’re just being silly. If you have fun with it, why should you care about everyone else? At least you can still be one of the better guardians.

Funny i would guess if a player thinks as guardians the healing class he his gona get really desapointed.

Care to explain why? Does it get two-shot like your 30k-HP guardian? I’m sure this isn’t one of your toxic discouragements to new guardians, right?

AoE Stun is probably too powerful for an additional effect to the only weapon skill in the game that gives on-demand Protection (AoE too!). Daze maybe?

Zerg setup that I used last year: link. I think it works well to introduce some of the Guardian’s potentials, such as AH, “OH CRAP!” AoE damage mitigation, Vigorous Precision, and Blind spam. If you feel you need more defense, use hammer instead of GS and use Empowering Might to boost AH healing.

The other potential that is not included is “OH CRAP!” AoE condition removals. This build has -65% condition duration on you -- It’s awesome, but sometimes not enough.

The truth is, you have to find your own play style. But I think this build is a good start if you want to be as un-killable as possible.

Writ makes hammer symbol last 4 seconds, despite the fact that the autoattack rotation is only 2 seconds.

Last time I remember, it only adds 1 second to Hammer Symbol. It was 50% duration increase rather than flat 2 seconds increase.

Don’t warriors need 20 for that GS trait?

Like I said, the problem is not on the might duration — even if it has no internal cooldown, I would still use it when it has only 1s AoE might. It’s already one of the best AH booster traits even with 1s cooldown. When I was running AH build, I avoided that trait because it is so strong (unless I’m fighting 40+ man zerg), and picked two-handed mastery instead.

Could you explain the potential build diversity that would come up?

Removing Empowering Might’s CD has been requested a lot of times, but that’s not gonna happen.

Let’s compare the healing effect to this food. Empowering Might is stronger (100% chance to proc on crit and 25 more HP heal). In the early days of GW2, that food did not have 1s internal cooldown, and everyone in WvW was using it because it was so good. Anet realized it was OP so they added the internal cool down.

This is not a bug, as part of the April 15th patch if you want to keep your stacks in water you must add the same sigil to your underwater weapon to keep your stacks. I believe this was mention int he April 15th patch notes. However, Anet may change their mind on this later.

The change was applied on the May patch. Can you give us the link where it was mentioned in the April patch notes?

Vitality means nothing when there’s 40 people dropping damage on top of you.

This is actually the reason to get vitality. Sustaining and tanking are different and it’s true that Healing Power is useful for sustaining. However, you gave an example of tanking, not sustaining.

I guess it’s related to the individual’s game play. When you see a 40-man zerg ball, do you face it or roll out of it? VIT for the former and Healing Power for the latter. Mind that you can’t always rely on rolling out with CC’s from enemies.

Yes you are missing something. I currently have Eternity (Blood Lust) (Battle). Now say I go into water, or even get feared into Water I lose my stacks entirely because I simply don’t have a 10 gold Sigil on my UW(Under Water) Weapons. So now for example Say I buy into this hideous update and confirm it isn’t a bug, and I purchase 1 Bloodlust rune and place it on my Spear. Two weeks Later, Anet replies. “It was a bug”. Now I have a problem as I wasted 10g on a Sigil that I don’t even need. So I remove that sigil and replace my old sigil onto my spear. Now it gets a little more complicated and I know you don’t understand but let’s try. I myself have several weapon sets. And I would hope others do aswell. For example my PTV set. Lets say I replace that Sigil aswell for Toughness Stacks. All of a sudden that’s a take back too. The list goes on and on, And howabout for my Ranger? Should I replace it’s Sigils too? Do you understand xFireize.6318? What if Somebody else who has 5+ characters? And each runs Bloodlust?

Oooooh you meant legendary and ascended land weapons. I thought they were related but it turned out they aren’t at all. You just had to say it so it seemed more expensive. That makes sense now.

Weapon: Foefire’s Essence
Issue: It’s missing one of its glowing effects when sheathed. The attachments are a comparison between Power (that has the effect) and Essence, respectively. The missing glowing effect is fine when Essense is unsheathed.

Paying to avoid some silly inconvenience that shouldn’t be there in the first place is a common fraud. So I’m sure it’s a bug, otherwise Anet is being a big kitten.

Wow really? It’s a bug then. No patch note about it and it really looks too dumb to be an exploit fix. I guess we’ll have to wait for the official response.
