Angel McCoy Interview

in Lore

Posted by: zao.2710

zao.2710

And let’s also not forget that the interview basically tells us that all GW1 PCs and half of the NPCs from EN and on were effectively geniuses in magic given how many secondary professions there were. Unless somehow magic became harder to learn, yet easier to access (which itself is contradictory).

Well, IMO, this actually has some sense to it. Before the dragons awoke, people were more powerfull, as there was more magic flowing. They could master more than one discipline, because of all the extra juice. Now, when magic is weaker, perhaps mastering more than one arcane is not possible. That would mean, that it’s not necessarily harder to learn, but that the individuals simply can’t achieve power levels from 250 years ago. I agree however that it kinda looks like a theory made in hurry to explain some game design changes.

What does a lack of dragons mean for magic?

in Lore

Posted by: zao.2710

zao.2710

In my opinion the gradual rise of magic power in Tyria is already visible. Perhaps not purely lore-wise, but in the form of player development. We received ascended items, legendaries, and we already know that more will come, and that the crafting, which is purely magic-driven, will also be expanded. We ARE getting much stronger, and we are the part of the lore.
It was actually the first thing I thought after reading the interview about the Elder Dragons being the natural regulator of magic in Tyria. It’s an amazing tool for the developers to support the introduction of new, more powerful features for players, and actually that it is already being implemented.

The set is:
Head & Shoulders (lol) – Feathered crafted
Chest – Winged crafted
Legs, hands and boots – Citadel of Flames

Painted pitch and gold

zao.2710

I agree. The point is that necromancers would like some more legendaries, so that the whole struggle and quest of making them would actually make sense in terms of maintaining the dark and gloomy feel about this particular profession. Bifrost, as well as Meteorlogicus (the legendary scepter) might I add, do not fit that well.
Of course dark and gloomy is not a mandatory, go-to necro look, but most people rolling necromancers seem to like it this way, and I am one of them.

I want to enjoy my ROAD to the Legendary

in Crafting

zao.2710

Just as the other people stated in this topic, the way I see it, is that you don’t have to get a legendary weapon. It’s not required. If you think the amount of collecting, grinding or whatnot is too much, then simply you are not entitled to receive a legendary item. Simple as that. I guess it’s an issue of the mindset developed while playing other MMO’s, where legendary items were common (Shadowmourne anyone?)

I agree however that perhaps you should be awarded with something more than the weapon itself. Something epic. Also, creation of certain parts, as well as the whole final product could be conducted in some special location, accessible only for people owning required items, or achievments. The vision of bringing all those hard earned items to Lions Arch and just, you know, like
“- Hey Zom, here ’ya go mate, I brought you all these things.
– Oh, thanks. Here, take this for your effort.
- Thanks, bye.”
Kinda takes away the pleasure from this moment.

Other idea would be to connect the creation of ingredients with instanced stories. I would feel then that the game actually responds and notices that I’m trying to do something big.

What made you think you made the wrong choices?

I choose exactly the same type of items as you, but I put more emphasis on the condition damage over power. Of course if you take too much beating, you can always try to mix some toughness and vitality, but personally I don’t feel the need to get those stats at all.

If you feel weak or underperfoming, my suggestion is to change your traits into a more balanced mix of curses and blood magic with emphasis on curses.
You also use a lot of wells, therefore I would suggest changing axe+focus for a staff, because marks combo with wells. Investment in Curses trait line would also help you as you get targeted wells.

Plus, my personal thought – I just dont like flesh golem. I roll with Plague elite, as it basically gives you third life bar and is super useful in AOE-multiple foe combat.

I go with condition/supportive build with staff/S+D and switch my skills accordingly to the oncoming challenge.

Necro’s are quite good kiters and pullers, and we are very usefull especially in fights where you have to place the boss in specific place like keeping Vassar away from Ralena in AC or pulling Brangoire to the middle of the room in TA. You can do all of this with Spectral Grasp.

Other than that i often rotate between Signet of Spite+Epidemic+Well Of Suffering; For boss fights I switch to Well Of Darkness + WoS+Well Of Power, or for example Spectral Grasp as mentioned above. Signet of Undeath can also be a tide breaker on particulary difficult fights.

I usually take consume conditions for healing purposes and ALWAYS Plague elite, as the AOE condition (blind!) spam is extremely usefull when facing multiple mobs.
I am also a designated resurrector with trait spawning well of blood on successfull ressurection.

jagged horror trait discussion

in Necromancer

Posted by: zao.2710

zao.2710

It is a prime example of traits not synergizing well with each other and skills.
My 2 cents:
- health degen should be smaller

- cooldown can remain, but the horror’s spawn should be triggered by a factor happening mid-fight, such as crit
OR
- cooldown can be lowered, but there should be a possibility to maintain horrors and spawn multiple at once during large fight after every kill

In both cases the death nova trait would finally be usefull and jagged horros would have bigger presence in fights.

Yeah, this migt be the case. I kinda feel that necro does not have enought thought process put into it. It seems that they just thought “OK, lets make an undead raising mage and be done with it.” Traits not working properly or not synergizing well with skills are a good example.
Now, the unfortunate output is that the class is somewhat lacking other classes versatility, especially in sPVP.
Now don’t get me wrong – I have an excellent time in PvE (altough I dropped minion master in favour of conditionmancer, I just couldn’t bear the stupidity of minions). I just believe that there is more into this class that we currently can use.

Nekromancers “trademarks” is supposed to be undead minions.
And not only they look “sigh could be a LOT cooler” Exspecially considering how totally amazing some pet animations and textures are.
But also they are quite weak. Even if 4 minion is attacking my target they eather die quite fast or wont even get hurt. The “sacrefice” skills for them are a joke to. I keep forgetting them.

Another problem of them is : They TAKE YOUR UTILITY slots. Why do i have to waste all my possible utlity skills to be what i am supposed to be?

What I think is that minions could be turned to another F-ability like the engi’s kits or ranger pets. Perhaps some down scaling would be necessary, but generally that would leave the utility slots opened, and more builds would be possible.

I kinda understand how you feel. Necromancer was my favourite, and most played character in Guild Wars. I didn’t even think twice when I decided what to roll in GW2.

The first dissapointment was the look of necromancer – in Guild Wars necro’s were hunched, skinny and pale, with clawy hands and dark markings on their skin – it was the complete look of a necromancer. In GW2 I produced a well built gentleman, who does not look dark or mysterious at all.
Furthermore, what bothers me is the voicing and animations. I sound like a kitten Jolly Golly with all those funny remarks my toon makes on different occasions. I am also charming and lovable and there isn’t really a way to make me more rugged or laid back or whatever, you get the point. Also the spell animations are kinda caster – genric. The hover-jump style of casting from GW was really cool and fitted the Necromancer perfectly in my opinon. I would like to see something similar, and however strange this may sound, it would actually be cool to see that casting some of the spells is hurting my necro. You know, he bleeds, weakens and poisons himself, and he just pops that spells like nothing happened.

The looks and AI of minions are another small thorns – We have either chickens, two type of whiptail devourers, WoW Voidwalker ripoff and mr. giant chicken aka flesh golem. Oh and a flesh wurm, but I don’t know anyone who uses that. I just don’t understand why the minions couldn’t look like those in the original guild wars. And be bigger. And actually attack things when they should.
I remember the sweet times in Guild Wars when the amount of minions was only limited by your ability to heal them. In GW2 reality it would be overpowered to the max, but I would like to see the minion master and his minions receive some tweaks and hugs from Anet.

It was before the TP was functional so I believe I overpaid sorely. Then again after finishing 100% of another location I had 120+ butter and 23 scraps of cotton, so I believe something must be done with the scaling.
