So… what changes are coming? What is a bug? What is only declared as a bug because the players don’t like it and noone wants to admit that it was a mistake?
I don’t recall seeing that. Granted, my viewpoint is different, but I really think I see a bug called a bug and a change called a change.
Chris or one of our designers is your better source for info on this. But my impression is that we don’t “sugar coat” actual changes by dressing them up in a bug suit.
That is correct Gaile.

Hello everyone. I am proud to announce that I am the newest adopted member of “Light of Honor [Lite]” on my beloved Sorrows Furnace. We may not be the largest server, but that does not preclude us from being the best server (biasedly speaking).
Everybody that hates the NPE is going to take over the discussion after all the fixes have been released I believe. You’re going to see multiple posts by the same people that hate it, and it’s going to seem like a lot more people dislike the new changes, when in reality, it’s just those same people that really want to make their point across. And not that there is anything wrong with posting more than once, it is a discussion after all, but you get my point.
I mean you can see the evidence of it now, with people complaining in one thread over the subject, and then having some of those same people from that thread start up new threads on pretty much the same topic.
I do agree that some minor changes need to happen, but hopefully Anet doesn’t give in to the pressure and make a complete 180 to the NPE, because I believe some of these changes are good for the game.
So I can’t wait to chime in when all the fixes are done. Should be interesting.
I agree with you about this. I think it’s premature to gauge how NPE will play at the current time, because we do know changes are coming.
And yes, you do see some forum members making the same points again and again. That truly is not helpful to the review and discussion, in that the devs would prefer a focused, clear, concise statement rather than realizing “Wait, it’s that same person, saying the same thing for the 19th time.”

Hi guys, I’ve identified the bug that’s causing this. I’m really sorry this didn’t get fixed sooner.
Bug Fixes:
- Fixed a bug that occasionally caused the Content Direction System to direct players to higher-level zones when a more appropriate zone was nearby.
- Fixed a bug that would occasionally direct players using alternate characters towards the dodge tutorial before level 4.
- Diving goggles now unlock on an account-wide basis rather than a per-character basis.
- Fixed a bug that occasionally unlocked collection items incorrectly.
- Fixed the text in the options menu for the Content Direction System.
- Fixed a bug that prevented some accounts from having vistas now unlock on an account-wide basis rather than a per-character basis.
- Skill challenges now unlock on an account-wide basis rather than a per-character basis as originally intended.
- Utility slot skills 2 and 3 now unlock at levels 17 and 19, respectively.
- The elite slot skill now unlocks at level 31.
- Elementalist F4 commands, mesmer F3 commands, and guardian F3 commands now unlock at level 17.
- Mesmer F4 commands and engineer F4 commands now unlock at level 19.
- Skill Challenges are now visible at level 13 instead of level 15.
Hi all, just a quick note on this: Behellagh is correct. Updates like this are just part of that team’s normal schedule.
Different teams do different things, so it’s not a matter of “We can work on the Black Lion Trading Company or we can work on something else, but not both”. The update today is just Evon Gnashblade’s team doing their thing.
(Speaking of, did you catch the end of today’s update? There is a different free item in the promotions tab of the BLTC every day this week, so don’t forget to get yours.)
Chap might reply to this. I play a warrior (PVT Shout Heal) and to be honest and quite happy with the changes. He knows more than I about balance however so i will bring it up with him tomorrow morning.
ChrisSo did anything come of this discussion?
See, Chris… PVT Shout build is probably near the top of LEAST impacted Warrior builds, as a result of this adrenaline nerf.
Running around spamming Shouts and swinging a hammer, as you hurl yourself into Zergs, is still fine after this adrenal change. And as a PVT shout heal warrior, I’d tend to suspect you’re zerging it up quite a bit in WvW, because… well honestly, that’s all they’re really good at. PvP it’s a fairly meh build, Guards/Eles/Engies bunker better.
You’ll never “miss” with your earthshakers in a crowd of 15 people. And Soldier runes wipe condi’s fast as anything. You can even trait to gain almost a bar of adrenaline per shout.
So, try a roaming build or competitive PvP build.
See how the adrenaline loss-on-miss feels versus an experienced player who can reliably avoid your bursts 75% of the time.
See how that 75% miss ruins your condi-clearing from Cleansing Ire, leaving you up to your ears in condis. You’ll quickly understand why warriors feel LOCKED into Longbows combustive shot.
Hey what’s up man.
Before this change, it was the case that the Warrior Dogged/Cleansing specs were able to pretty much just spam their burst skills and remove condies. We had a lot of players (on forums and in person, talking to them at Gamescom) talking about how they wanted to have more play/skill to this, and they also wanted (if they were players who played AGAINST this type of Warrior) to have more counter-play.
This change means that Warriors need to be thinking ahead to their condition cleanse, as they will no longer be able to get them without risk. It also means that missing a burst skill can hurt the Warrior more than it did before, so even if you’re not running Cleansing, an opponent making you miss your burst skill can be a really big, really impactful moment in a fight.
This change means that some Warrior specs will need to shift/adjust, and you’ll need to do more “setting up” of your burst skill (to give it a higher chance to land) if you’re relying on Cleansing for condie clears.

Hi,
I’m joining in a few days late, but it looks like I’ll be hopping on the wagon with [TUNE] of Yak’s Bend.
Hey everyone!
I’m GM Aurora and I’m here to give a brief overview about guild banks and the challenges they present from a customer support point of view. I won’t go into too much detail about our internal policies, but you should have a fair grasp about this topic after reading my post.
Guild banks are quite problematic for our team (even more so after the recent guild chapter merge). The biggest reason is that guild bank restorations could have a potentially huge economic impact. Imagine there are a number of highly valuable items in a bank, they get stolen, and we then restore the bank. Those items are now being duplicated and the economy takes a plunge because of it. Doing it once may not be very critical, but doing it over and over will have adverse effects on the prices of goods in the trading post, currency exchange, and so on.
So, with that said, how can you make your guild bank more secure? There are several things you can do. For starters, avoid putting items into the bank that are highly valuable. The other obvious thing to do is to not invite players into the guild that you don’t know or feel comfortable with. Now, this is all easier said than done and I understand and empathize with all of you, but it will minimize the potential to lose valuable items. The one thing that is often overlooked and that is probably the most important step to securing the guild bank is that guild leaders can set the rank permissions so that not everyone can take items out of the guild bank. This prevents a lot of misuse of the guild bank and will also make sure that items are safe until needed for guild events, guild missions or any other purpose you have in mind for them. And even if you’re not a guild leader or officer, you can help keep your bank secure by keeping your account secure! See this Knowledge Base article for more tips on account security.
Finally, all this is subject to change at any time because we are always working on improving the resources that are available to us. I’m not going to say that we will never restore guild banks, nor will I promise that we’ll be able to do it in the future, but I hope this post helps everyone to understand a little bit why we are currently not restoring guild banks.
Just wanted to pop in to say that we’re investigating this. It’s too early for me to say when we expect to roll out a fix, but we have folks looking at the issue.

Hi Jerus,
I had asked that someone update in the thread but that doesn’t seem to have happened. I will get on it again.
Chris
Appreciate it, and all you’re doing lately.
Thank you very much and thanks for reminding me.
Chris
If we’re actually going to have a thread discussing the NPE, can it actually be full of constructive criticism and suggestions instead of just rage and hyperbole? This thread looks like it’s already going south, so I hope this won’t be the place to talk about it.
That would indeed be great.

As has been detailed many times we will not be disclosing work in progress. I don’t know how to make this any clearer. As uncomfortable as this may be this is the reality.
Chris
Chris, I feel the need to point out one thing here. The person you replied to, he wasn’t saying we want to dig in when things are still in design phase.
A major point of the post was, “If you had let us in on the extent of the changes just a week before they were implemented, you could have gotten a lot of the feedback you have now, but two weeks earlier”.
I think that’s a major point there. By that point in time, nothing would (or at least should) have been a “work in progress”. It would have been “ready to deploy”. Just giving us that small look into something that “we’re preparing to push out in just a few days” would have helped substantially for both your side, and for ours.
Ah ok well I didn’t get that sorry Ohoni and thanks Shadow. Let me have a think and I will give you both my opinion. As i am sure you are aware this idea comes with a similar set of issues to.
Chris

I don’t think Chris made this thread with the purpose of driving away paying customers…
That wasn’t one of the goals no (-:
Chris
Note we want to make the fixes and then have a focused discussion about the system (Probably here)
We really want to hear what you think once the system/content is functioning as designed.
Chris
Again, waiting until it’s “functioning as designed” before having the discussion about it just pushes back the point where solutions can be reached. If you’d have discussed these changes with us months ago we could have hashed them out before the patch, and we wouldn’t be in this mess. Let’s say it takes another week to get things “functioning as designed,” and then we spend another couple weeks debating the changes, that’s weeks wasted when you could be working on fixing them now.
You guys already know which elements of the current game are bugs and which are features, so instead of waiting until the bugs have been removed, why not just TELL use which elements are not intended and which are, and we can discuss the issue from there?
This is the core about what we mean when we say we want communication. We don’t want to wait until things are implemented and then discuss them, we want in on the design process BEFORE you waste the time and effort implementing systems that we never wanted in the first place. Think of how many manhours you guys wasted working on these NGE systems that are dead on arrival with the players! How many other great systems could those developers have been working on instead in that time?
As has been detailed many times we will not be disclosing work in progress. I don’t know how to make this any clearer. As uncomfortable as this may be this is the reality.
Chris
P.S: If you want to discuss potential future features and systems then you are welcome to partake in the CDI.

From my experience playing a new character:
1. Unlocking skills all at once per weapon was more confusing for me, and more boring. Previously fights didnt feel like grind because I was unlocking skills along the way, and I had more time with one skill to feel what it did. Now I get a bunch at once and am slowed down by having to read every tool tip over and over and I don’t remember what each skill does as well.
2. Not gaining skill points each level… even with the big message saying i’m being rewarded and that i’ve “unlocked” things (many things arent locked to begin with) I dont feel each level is giving me progress toward new abilities.
3. The level up menu gives vague, incomplete information and if I want it off the screen quickly there’s no way for me to figure out later what it was telling me. It takes up the whole screen so if you impulse click on it in combat there’s no time to hover your mouse or click the things it wants you to. In my opinion a true tutorial in controlled instances would be better than these obtrusive, only half-informative, and easily missed pop ups.
4. Some world-building dialogue/heart quest options have been removed (the inquest no longer try to recruit you, no golem chess, you can’t feed bear cubs or play as a sylvan hound). What drew me to gw2 was its world, characters, visuals. These charming details help it stand out from the “kill 45 crawfish to proceed” competitors. Their absence is missed.
5. I am seriously not looking forward to buying/unlocking all of my traits.

What happened to the “plan” posted 5 days ago (here)?
Hi there,
As a follow-up to Colin’s post, we want you to know that we’re busy working on fixing bugs in the New Player Experience system. We’re also using this opportunity to make a few changes to its design to take into account the feedback we’ve been reading. We’re aiming to deploy the fixes early next week.
As Colin explained (make sure to read this post and that one if you haven’t!), this is a complex, “big picture” system that has a lot of components. We want it to benefit all players and improve your game experience overall.
We understand that this is an important topic for the community and appreciate that players have been talking about it. We’ve been triaging bug reports, developing fixes for them and discussing what design changes we will bring to you next week. We’ll continue to both work on the next updates and read the feedback from the community on this topic!
Thank you
Or was that simply a “calming ruse” . . . ?
Sorry Cindas I don’t understand. What do you mean what happened to the plan? There is no change to the plan.

Hi, my name is Gavian and I am the head of production for ArenaNet and I am also a Mac user. I am enjoying the discussion of various development methedologies, and that is something I could talk about endlessly, but I wanted to drop in and let you know what we are doing on the Mac.
Our current focus, like what we are doing right now, is reproducing Mac specific bugs and issues we see reported on the forums and working towards fixes. I will say that it is heartening to see everyone here helping each other out and it helps us out as well.
As has been pointed out, we do have a Mac specific client, it just happens to be using Cider.
We will try and post more to keep you in the loop about issues we had addressed that are Mac specific.
As a side note, for development methedology we use a number of different approaches, depends what the team make up is and what we are trying to accomplish.
Thanks!
Thanks for the update, Gavian. I have a couple of questions if you’re still around.
Are you guys working on the issue where the game crashes from running out of memory at large events as this guy shows here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/mac/Client-Crash/first#post4360855
https://dviw3bl0enbyw.cloudfront.net/uploads/forum_attachment/file/165825/GW2_MacBETA_OOM.png
This is sort of a big deal since the client consistently crashes in large scale events and, with megaservers, that is almost every world boss. Also, it makes wvw impossible to enjoy. Thanks!
We are still looking into this – we are actively trying to recreate it in a bunch of different ways. I know it is annoying.
Hi Gaile,
Lovely to see you (-:
I am going to link this thread to the ‘communicating with you thread’ so the folks there can see the info you posted and get a better idea about some of the changes we are making to improve the communication with our community.

So were these the only parts that were considered to be bugs?
besides the ones already fixed of course.
Nah. That’s what the “other aspects are being considered” means. The team is open to suggestions. From what I understand, this should not be considered a final list.
Thanks for asking.

The devs have been reviewing your feedback on the New Player Experience. While some bug fixes have already been made, the team will be making other updates in the future to address:
- Plot holes and story inconsistencies that may have been introduced with story realignment
- Replacing the missing profession mechanics UI for the Ranger and Mesmer professions
- Investigating issues that prevent players from retaining some skills (heal, utility, and elite) that they had previously unlocked
- Addressing an issue with bundles that prematurely unlocked utility and elite skills
Other aspects of the NPE are being examined, and your constructive feedback is welcome and appreciated.

Getting a bit off topic ladies and gentlemen.
Hi Chris,
Some of us have been facing stuttering/spiking FPS issues since the Sept patch. Wonder if you could look into it and let us know if it’s something on your side that can be fixed? Or if it’s a graphics card compatibility thing? Unchecking Hi-Res Textures doesnt resolve it.
We are definately looking into these. I am very happy they are posted in the tech support section, makes it a lot easier to round up the info. Thanks!
This is actually a separate bug from the one that was fixed in the feature pack. Investigating this issue, but I can’t offer an ETA on a fix.

Hey everyone!
Just wanted to introduce myself. I’m a server programmer here at ArenaNet and am excited to be part of the Adopt-A-Dev program for the WvW fall tournament.
I will be running with the League of Tyrian Adventurers [LoTA] on Kaineng. While Kaineng isn’t in the top tier, it is my home. I’ve been with it since starting the game and I feel a sense of allegiance towards it – so I hope I can help in some small way.
Regardless, this will be a lot of fun. If you see me in game, I am usually the big Charr Engineer named Vox Machinum. Say hi if you see me.

There’s a bug where the default is to put in a low buy order instead of buying one of the currently available ones. We’re working on that (and this is why).
Your pending purchases are listed in ‘my transactions’.. you’re not waiting for a specific seller.. You’re waiting for any seller who likes your price. Instant purchases are a higher cost.
If you want your item immediately you can cancel your order from the ‘My Transactions’ page. Collect your funds again. and return to the buy page. This time click on one of the current sellers before hitting buy. (sorry for the temporary extra step)
Corporal Jantzen is voiced by the very talented Gregg Berger http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0074185/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1
We’re working on getting those current listings displayed again so you can manage outstanding trades. Sorry for the wait.
Handling extremely long histories without losing performance is on our list for possible future improvements.

Any word from Leah and her team regarding the problem I mentioned before?
And it’s good to know that you’ll be well.
Hi Malk,
I have asked them to post an update but they are super busy. So if they don’t today I will swing by and then update on their behalf. I have been forwarding yours and others info to them and they have been using it. So thank you very much.

- Improve the LFG system so that it sends a alert to guild members that a guild member is looking for a group.
- Changing the guild roster UI to better reflect guild leaders/officers.
- An option for people to show the server-time and the local time together.
- In guild-chat also show the account-name. [account-name] | [Character-name]
- Mailing to multiple people (in the guild) at once. Rank based or just multiple names at ones or multiple ranks at once. And not being suppressed.
- Setting notes per member and also having the option for multiple notes with view premission based on ranks.
- In the guild-roster being able to select / filter multiple people, manually or with criteria (like how much influence earned or rank or online-time or last online and so on and so on).
And then being able to do something with that selection. Like mail all of them or change rank or set a note for those members and so on.- Seeing guild-members on the mini-map with (orange) dots.
- Chat-channel based on ranks.
There where many suggestions about the chat.- Having a MotD that pops up in the chat when a member log in but also a second message that has more information (and the MotD possible links to) and being able to set times to the MotD.
- In the chat showing if a member joins or logs out or reach level 80 and maybe some other information.
- On calendars Having the ability also for members to create events where other members can sign up to. When setting up an event you can set requirements like profession, race, level and maybe a max number of participators for an event.
- Exporting a list of all members including character names and information to a file.
- In the Api have the option to export real-time information to see what guild has claimed what WvW camps / towers / keeps / castle. But maybe also other information in the future.
- Members should be able to stack in the guild-bank without having to first take it to there inventory.
- Transfer influence from one guild to another guild.
- Exporting mails to a file.
- Being able to set a welcome mail for new members and the option to add items from a stack saved somewhere.
- Build queue management: (automation or timers)
- Guild commander tag (like showing the guild emblem but rank based)
- Build mission activation Better permission and logging for this. / Detailed guild mission interaction history.
- Guild Name changes and associated costs
- Guild World Transfers
- Being able to view what your Guild has claimed in WvW.
- Guild alerts, or guild mass communication.
- Social section inside the guild panel.
- Improve the upgrade interface.
- Add a “build queue queue.”
- Create better metrics to evaluate guild participation
- Make it easier to tell who has joined or left the guild when reviewing roster history.
- Claiming PvE Zones – similar to JQ and FA in GW1
- Calendar in guild-hall
- Being able to send a recruit message in map chat but only show it to people on the same server however possible over multiple map instances.
- Guild Wars introduction
- Guild Store – An extra tab in the Guild Bank where members can buy things donated to the guild for prices set by the guild leadership.
- Guild Zones.
- A competition system in which Guilds, and associations of Guilds, compete each other for certain goals, missions and objectives both in WvWvW and PvE maps.
- Recruiting in the world with billboards that link you to a UI. http://tinyurl.com/q6xwavh
- W:ET like Guild battles
- Allow gw1 style guild guesting
- Guild Recruitement through banners
- Change to Influence, instead of only adding for the guild you are currently representing have it add for all the guilds that you are a part of.
I did not start at page 1 (started at the permission discussion) so I might be missing a few but this should be most suggestions having double filtered out as much as possible. Missing any? Add them
Hi Dev,
Thanks a lot for the additionals. When i get back in tomorrow or later today I will format the list. You to will be getting some goodies. We really appreciate it.
To Everyone,
I am still under the weather and will not be back in until later today or tomorrow. It looks like there are still a lot of proposals (I am reading the thread when i am not sleeping). So this is the plan: tomorrow evening I will reformat the summaries and then post it and then we can have a day of discussion. I will then put forward a CDI team proposal and then we can move onto Phase 2: Guild Halls.
Many thanks for some awesome proposals and discussion and sorry for not being more active over the past day.
Chris
Hi All,
Thanks for all your kind messages, I should be up and about tomorrow.
I have cleaned down my inbox now. So i will get your messages. Eye, Guhracie etc how about Thursday?
I have asked for someone to post an update on the Story Steps and we should be deploying more fixes to NPE soon thus allowing us to have a more meaningful discussion.
Thanks for all the updates and thoughts. And FYI I have been reading this forum and the CDI when i haven’t been asleep.
Chris
YES success ! I was running GW2 day before the update no problems SOMETHING in that download changed NVIDIA to 16 bit instead of 32 bit that it was originally!
Thank you for that pointer! Taking note.
And glad it appears to be working for most of you.
/v2/commerce/prices is what we show in search results on the TP and totally usable for places where absolutely up-to-the-minute data isn’t necessary.
/v2/commerce/listings is closer to being live data, but is also more expensive for us to retrieve. It may end up getting a longer cache time on it to avoid problems on the backend.
I have a TP website and we use commerce/prices to update all the items.
I realize that they can’t be live, but going from 1 minute to 5 minutes is a huge difference when prices can change very quickly.
If it is stuck at 5 minutes, then I would switch back to using commerce/listings which seems to put a heavier load on the server as it takes longer to complete.
The cache times on those two APIs come from different places. /v2/commerce/listings I control, /v2/commerce/prices I do not.
That said, if /v2/commerce/listings starts stressing the commerce systems too much we’ll increase the cache time on the API frontends. Live data’s no good if folks are taking down the commerce servers to get it!
Try to use the right API for the data you need, basically.
Due to some guild issues. I am now repping Nobleese Oblige [Nob] on Eredon Terrace. Thank you for hosting me!
I’ve received an /extra/ 100g now, I believe. What do I do with it? I don’t want to cheat the system.
Sawnic, I checked your account and the amount is correct. Shopping trip!

I just got a mail saying ‘this mail has a replacement item for one of your characters (or another one, wich you might need to log onto)’.
I logged on all 5 pre-patch commander tag owning characters, the 200g refund, did not come true. The Email is empty (no item or money to accept). Since emails are account boudn, I doubt this however makes a difference, wich character you log into.
The blank mail would have been followed by another mail that contained the gold. Sorry about the blank mail that may have caused confusion.
