If there were a security breach of the type you mention, we’d have tens of thousands of tickets about this and probably a few hundred forum posts. The fact that we do not have those things points to an isolated, personal situation, perhaps with your computer system, your authentication set-up, your e-mail account, etc.
Please read this thread about e-mail transmittal/receipt problems:
I suggest that you create a ticket (or update an existing ticket if you previously received support in relation to this concern). Please allow our team to try to assist you with the matter. Click “Support” at the top of this page, and then fill out the form to get assistance. We want to help you with this.
The team asked you security questions back on Wednesday and you responded. But you created a new ticket today and that is going to slow the process for you.
The team will respond as quickly as they can. I think you will hear this evening.
But the problem isn’t your game account, it’s your e-mail account, so you need to secure that, it seems to me.
In the future, please do not create multiple tickets and please post follow-ups, after three days, in the Tickets for Review thread above.

Hey Guys,
A week ago we were ready to cut ranks. Last week, due to our discussion on the CDI thread, we decided to keep them.
Right now we are trying to determine in what form we are going to keep ranks and how they should be balanced so attaining the rank of dragon is something that you have a reasonable chance of achieving and not a quest that you pass on to your children and your children’s children.
Because we agree with most of you that ranks are too difficult to attain and because it was a very easy change for us we also decided to give players a bonus to players in Solo and Team Arenas.
I’m sorry you didn’t get a response sooner but we didn’t want to jump the gun and say yes or no to this thread. What you are asking isn’t something that we can just turn on so it would have to come in a build later if we decide to do it. At the moment we don’t have a plan to retroactively award points for wins but many of you have brought up some interesting reasons for it so it is something we will take into consideration when we are discussing how to adjust ranks.
Thanks again for your feedback.

I am having this issue recently, and I know why, as should you, the spoof and phishing e-mail were sent with your addresses as the source, I am really surprised you all have not changed your e-mail address down there at GW2 headquarters, that is the easiest way to get your e-mails through, since new e-mails will not yet be flagged as fraud. If you change your e-mail address often, even just adding a number to the end of it, it would help a lot with this problem.
Also, I am on here to check my in box here on this website, and it is empty, why would you not cc your messages here for us to pick up ? Why have you not e-mailed me also in game?
Now where on earth am I supposed to find my support ticket then since you do not e-mail me here, seem to have a blocked e-mail address with my mail server, and do not seem to have a place for me to look up my tickets ?
I think you’re not clear on e-mail “sender” information. Anyone can send an e-mail as just about anyone in the world. You could get an e-mail that appears to come from The Cat in the Hat or President Obama or Santa Claus, but that doesn’t mean it came from them. In fact, I’m pretty comfortable telling you that that mail did not come from any of those sources.
I can’t see where us changing our legitimate e-mail address would make a bit of difference, when the mails are not coming from us, but can be spoofed to appear to come from us no matter what the real sending address may be. And cycling through constantly changing e-mail addresses is a recipe for disaster!
You can verify the sender of an e-mail by checking its properties or the mail header. Our changing our outbound e-mail address won’t reduce the phishing attempts. Each of us who uses the Internet must protect ourselves by being diligent in checking e-mails and making sure they come from the source they show in the “From” or “Sender” field.
Hi Gail,
I am aware of how e-mails work, and am also aware of being able to change the way the senders address appears, I am a computer scientist/ programmer/ and web developer who runs a fairly large company devoted to the internet.
If you can not see how it would help, then I guess that explains why you have not done it. I was a bit upset when I wrote my post and I am aware it may have come through in my wording, it was not directed at you at all, just a frustration with the situation.
Just to let you know Outlook.com did not have you blocked by IP address, but by e-mail address, so by slightly changing your e-mail address now and then, it would have been sent to my junk box still, but not completely deleted from existence, as my spam filters were doing.
Thank you for your reply just the same, having added you to my safe senders list, e-mails are now coming through, but I will likely have to block you again soon as the phishers I am sure will return, and of course I do not blame you for their actions.
You may want to get your e-mail server’s IPs on some of the big e-mail white lists out there if possible, such as Certified Senders Alliance, The Spamhaus Project, and Certified email, it would eliminate this problem for most. Again no reason for not sending copies to in game e-mails or the e-mails here of the forum, it may be out of your job description to set things up, but it is far from impossible so long as you have a way to give ideas to people who do such things, there are also e-mail services that will send for you for a charge that are white listed, they can use your e-mail address also of course.
Peace to you, and all of your co workers, support has helped me now, and did it quickly and polity, I am thankful for the great service, and trying to help.
Thank you for this additional information — I found it very interesting indeed! What I don’t want us to do is have a revolving door of e-mail addresses. That just “smells funky” if you know what I mean. “Guild Wars 2 Team ABAA” or “Newest version of GW2 Team” just doesn’t have a veracity factor that I’d want our mails to have. But your insights are, as I said, quite interesting, and I will be sure to pass them along to the folks who would handle the core of our e-mail system.
(Just to set your mind at rest, the fact that I can’t see how it would help doesn’t explain why we haven’t done it. Believe me, I’m not in charge of e-mail configurations!
But I suspect you meant “you” in more of a company sense, and that’s why I’ll be sharing your thoughts with those who would make those decisions.)
Thanks.
The stream was cut short due to technical issues and has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Dec 17 at noon Pacific time.
hello
I would like to change my email address that is link to my account and to change my account name “MasterKJ”. Is that possible? If so, how?
Please contact Support (click Support at the top of this page) about changing your account name, which is your log-in (e-mail address). We do not make changes to or offer the ability to alter a Display Name (in your case MasterKJ).
A question to help direct the discussion a bit:
What are some of your favorite progression systems of all time in others? Be they horizontal, or vertical, just which ones really got you excited and were fun for you to continue to progress in?
For me, Final Fantasy Tactics is one I loved, where I was able to continue to unlock new jobs and advanced professions for my characters, as well as level up their abilities within those professions. It remains one of my all time favorite games, and one of my favorite systems of progression in any game. I’m also pretty darn fond of that Guild Wars game and skill collection.
Since this thread has already started out with people attacking each other, it is now closed. In the future, please stay respectful to one another when creating and posting in these threads.
If you have more information on this that would be greatly helpful.
Did you cast it right before you picked it up?
How were your skills locked? What was happening? etc.
Thanks!
Chris,
Before I really get into this CDI, I was wondering. Is there any info you can give us about the much-wanted Skin Wardrobe? I know I’ve watched an interview where Colin said that it was something ANet fel was really missing from the game.
- Is this an idea that is actually possible to add to the game?
- If so, is it something that would take a very long time to create?
- what are you personal thoughts on the idea?I realize that you may not be able to answer all of those questions, but would you be willing to address this desired addition in some way?
It is an idea that we are certainly very fond of (-:
Chris
Since this thread has denigrated into accusations of cheating, it is now closed.
We are going to change this to aoe around the target instantly underwater I think. We will let you guys know.
I’ll look into this, thanks!
You have only gained dishonor twice from AFK and twice from leaving in the past week. I speculate while you may have behaved like an AFK player, you did not actually get kicked by AFK detection. Could you describe how you ‘tested’ dishonor exactly?
Dishonor caps at 3.
Quick update to let you all know that I am keeping up to date on the thread and will do a summary and join the discussion tomorrow.
Chris
Got to scrim against some of these teams. Definitely a lot of high caliber teams here! Can’t wait to see who comes out on top!
Because people seem to be unable to get along with each other in this thread, it is now closed.
Really good start to this topic folks. Excellent discussion, and really good ideas.
I am blown away, thanks everyone you have made my day. I love the CDI and so far this is a really good example of how I imagine it should be.
Romo regarding your last post I am going to spend some time thinking about how you feel and get back to you if that’s ok?
Chris
Wow….so the plan to do a summary every 3 pages (-: Well i think i am going to try and do one everyday starting with tomorrow in regard to this topic. Some great ideas and conversation so far, and lots and lots of it. Keep it up.
Chris
Looking forward to this! Thanks for the reminder, Kensuda.
Good luck to all of the teams.
Fractal Progression Reset
As we were looking at the fractal reworks we wanted to change the relative values of how hard it was to work through the fractals, because of this we wanted to bring everyone to a common starting point. We knew this was going to be controversial but we really wanted everyone to be on an even play field and once we got the feedback about it we started looking into ways we could mitigate this risk. This is a common practice we do with all releases and risks and sometimes like with this one we were not able to do anything due to time constraints and tech. It’s wasn’t our goal to devalue peoples time and effort and when reworking stuff sometimes these types of tradeoffs happen. We wanted to create a new scaling paradigm that would give us more room in the future for adding fractals and we felt the current systems was harder to scale. Our original design was for players to go past 50 but this wasn’t able to happen in time.
The two main areas for discussion will be Horizontal and Vertical progression, however please understand that the commentary and ideation we are really looking for regarding vertical is around its accessibility in game.
I’m not sure I understand this bit; could you clarify?
Basically:
- How easy it is to attain the Ascended gear?
- Is the balance of acquisition of Ascended out of whack between different game-modes (i.e. Easier in PvE than WvW, easier in the open world than it’s intended game mode [Fractals])?
Couldn’t have said it better myself DaiBish. Thanks.
Chris

Hi,
To clarify I am looking forward to hearing the communities thoughts on speed of acquisition such as how long crafting time takes? or drop rates in fractals and other areas of the game etc.
I hope this adds some clarity.
Chris
The next game update is January 21, as mentioned by Colin, so you have until then to have fun in the Winterdsay event as well as complete any tasks for The Nightmare Ends. Hope that clarifies it.
Hello Fellow Collaborators,
Welcome to the last CDI topic of 2013. In this topic we will be discussing Character Progression. The CDI rules are as follows:
Rules
1: This initiative is all about discussion.
2: We will not be disclosing information pertaining to what is currently in development.
3: Anger and emotion will have less impact than intelligent discussion.
4: Together we will share and evolve design philosophies which will impact how we develop the game moving forward.
5: Aggression and disrespect to a fellow community member or developer will not be tolerated, and in the extreme could lead to the shutting down of the initiative.
6: The teams primary focus is work toward the development of GW2 and therefore posting of discussion and commentary may not be as frequent as you like. Please do understand that the initiative is taken very seriously by us all and that we will be reading the discussions and joining in as often as it is possible to do so.
We will be talking about both horizontal and vertical progression and I hope we can stay focused on what is in game now and what we would like to see in the future.
The two main areas for discussion will be Horizontal and Vertical progression, however please understand that the commentary and ideation we are really looking for regarding vertical is around its accessibility in game.
Finally please note this is not a competition either between yourselves or the developers in regard to one up man ship. The point of this Initiative is to work together to make the game better.
Note: We will disclose the ideas we do or don’t like as a group but we will not discuss schedules or timing around implementation. If there is still concern surrounding how seriously we take community collaboration then please do take the time to think about how much impact the community has had on the working of this game over the year.
Here is a summary by the Lost Witch:

CDI Dev post recap: part 2
CDI Dev post recap: part 3

From the Asset Kit web page:
ArenaNet is pleased to provide the Guild Wars 2 Asset Kit, a collection of visual assets related to the upcoming Guild Wars 2. This material is intended to help you communicate information about Guild Wars 2 and to create compelling content related to the game. If you’re looking for official GW2 visuals for your blog, fan site, website, magazine, publication, or project, these graphics are here for your use.
That kind of says it all, really.
The term ‘asset’ does not actually “usually” mean a “game component.” The term is used in a variety of fields to describe different components or materials. For example, in web design, the term ‘asset’ can be used to refer to images, text, media (video, audio), and so on.
We do not need two threads for the WvW season rewards topic.
As a heads up, you guys need to drop the :0 from the end of the IP address in order to run the commands listed above.

Hi George Steel,
Your system should definitely be able to handle Guild Wars 2 with higher framerates than that. I’d like for you to submit a support ticket and contact us directly so we can further assist you one on one with this problem and hopefully narrow down the cause.
Well I’d check your hardware first: make sure nothing is overheating, PSU is still good, etc. If you’ve got any sort of “factory overclocked hardware” like certain CPU’s will have a Turbo Boost feature or Nvidia Ti cards also have this, you may want to try disabling Turbo Boost and even underclocking the graphics card as both of these features have been known to trigger the black screen issue.
There’s a number of different things that you can try to troubleshoot this issue since there’s a number of different resolutions so we’ll start with this.
Also – wouldn’t hurt to try bypassing your router and connecting directly to your modem if you can. Seems certain routers and Guild Wars 2 don’t get along very well.

Hi DJezy,
Do you have any firewalls or security software enabled at all? That’s the usual culprit for a frozen launcher. Any other troubleshooting steps you want to provide that you’ve tried on your end would be helpful as well!
Hi Tivez – Are you experiencing two different issues here? You are getting the black screen in addition to a PC shutdown? There could be multiple issues here.

Hi pmnt,
Why don’t you send us a support ticket and we can help you out one on one? We might need to request some more info from you and go through a bit of troubleshooting that could get a bit lengthy for a forum thread.
We look forward to hearing from you!
Zelyhn, the fact of the matter is, you incited others to spam. It doesn’t matter where you incited to spam, be it our forums, our livestream, another player’s livestream or anywhere else on the internet. You told people on this forum to go to our livestream chat and spam, and for that you were punished and the punishment was well deserved.
You can argue subjectivity all you want. The only reason you weren’t infracted for similar actions is the past is simply because you didn’t get caught. The moderation team cannot read every single post on the forums. We rely heavily on user reports and what we are able to read in the course of the day. If you see an offending post and think “why didn’t he get infracted for that?” you should stop and report the post, not point out flaws in our moderation because you found a post that violates the code of conduct.
If you have to live in fear of being infracted over what you might post, you should take a good, hard look at your posting habits and what you consider acceptable. Then read over the Code of Conduct again and try and understand not just the letter of the law, but also the spirit of the law as well.
What you referred to as a subjective clause is the following:
Forum moderators have full discretion to address any behavior that they feel is inappropriate. Your membership and participation in these forums is a privilege and not a right. ArenaNet reserves the right to suspend or terminate your access to these forums and/or to the game itself at any time for reasons that include, but are not necessarily limited to, your failure to abide by this Code of Conduct.
This is in there precisely to allow us to take action against those in violation of the spirit of the Code of Conduct. We do not abuse this clause as an excuse to remove anything we want, we use it to keep the forums a respectful and constructive place for our players to interact with each other and our staff.

Glad to hear you got it worked out! This is pretty common with a number of different games. More than likely you may simply need to re-add permissions to any security software or Firewalls that you have that you have running to allow the client.
Thanks for these updates, and for the system specs that two of you e-mailed me. We will use this info to try to fashion a fix!
I just wanted to stop by and let you guys know that we are listening. We’re looking at a few different ways to address the time investment it currently takes to get new skills in PvP, but it’s not something we’re able to talk about quite yet.
You’ll see a drastically different system in place in our next major rewards release that should address many of your concerns.
Hey there,
If you’ve got a 32-bit operating system adding more RAM definitely won’t help you here, especially as it wouldn’t all be fully utilized since 32-bit operating systems can only use around 3.5 (ish) GB of your system’s memory. This is where it gets a little complicated, but the short version is that the additional memory can push your total available memory into negative numbers resulting in crashes or simply, “out of memory errors.”
Some players have resolved this by upgrading to a 64-bit operating system. Others simply have removed physical RAM from the system to bring the memory totals closer to values intended for that revision of Windows (32-bit). Obviously removing RAM from your PC is not an ideal solution but I wanted to give you all the information we have learned regarding these issues. You can read more about this issue from Microsoft here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929605 The important part is listed below:
“For example, if you have a video card that has 256 MB of onboard memory, that memory must be mapped within the first 4 GB of address space. If 4 GB of system memory is already installed, part of that address space must be reserved by the graphics memory mapping. Graphics memory mapping overwrites a part of the system memory. These conditions reduce the total amount of system memory that is available to the operating system.”
One solution presented by players being affected by this is to change the “Maximum pre-rendered frames” in the Nvidia control panel. To do this:
1. Right-click on your desktop and select “Nvidia Control Panel.”
2. Select "Manage 3D Settings.”
3. Scroll down until you find “Maximum pre-rendered frames” and change it from “Use the 3D application settings” to “1.”
Once completed, click “Apply” to save your changes and try Guild Wars 2 again.
Hi allindal,
Your crash logs are showing us OOM (Out of Memory) crash errors, however, as the person above mentioned already this is an old crash log (last crash on this report appears to be from September) and so I’d really like to collect an updated one from you.
Small update, he just got the email including his CD key after about 2 hours. Thanks for the help
It’s great that you updated, and we appreciate it. It’s curious there was a delay, but it’s a relief that the code came through for him!
Please pass along a “Welcome to Tyria” from the dev team.
Thanks for these reports so far. We really appreciate you guys chipping in to help us nail these pesky bugs!
The latest patch did fix this for me. Thanks for the quick attention!
So good to hear that, thank you for posting!
i use PayPal and not for the first time, so far i never had problems. now when i want to pay, this happens (like described before):
“After i clicked the pay now button they both had the same result it switched to a Fatfoogoo web address and a blank screen and froze.”
oh well, after coming back from dinner i noticed, the Transaction still worked, even if the mail took some time and gems werent there before, but now all Looks ok.
Thank you for updating. It’s helpful to know that things did sort out, even if they took longer than expected. (This avoids me pinging devs about an issue that appears to be resolved now. So thanks again for posting!)
Hey there. Some of you were posting in this thread about Mac-related issues, and in order to increase visibility of the thread and help other users, I’ve split that discussion and placed it in the Mac forum.
Here’s the link: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/mac/Gem-Purchase-Redemption-Issues-Merged/first#post3342889

I stealthily moved this thread to the Mac Support forum (out of Account Support) but I’ll post in the content’s former home so you guys can track this.
Also, please note that I edited my post asking for system information to include some additional questions and some helpful links.
(edited by Gaile Gray.6029)
Hey guys,
As Tyler mentioned above, this is clearly an unintended change. Eagle Eye is currently attached to a script for an entirely different trait, and that needs to be fixed.
Not to mention that a trait with damage, range, and permanent fury seems sort of crazy. Ranger will see improvements, but this isn’t the way to do it.
Hey, folks,
I’m talking to the dev and QA Teams about this issue. They’d like to ask for a bit of information, if you’re willing to share it. (I don’t see anything potentially scary in a security sense in your posting this, or of course I wouldn’t ask!) If you still are unable to properly purchase gems or redeem gem codes or if you are experiencing wild behavior with your mouse, please tell us the following:
Here’s a helpful thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/mac/Technical-Problems-Post-Your-System-Specs that lets you determine what info would be helpful in troubleshooting these issues.
If you are willing to submit a System Report, that would be great! Get that report by doign the following: Apple Menu > About This Mac > System Report Button > File > Save. Once saved, attach the file to an e-mail and send to SupportLiaison@Arena.Net.

Let’s just stop you all right there. We don’t balance off of 2v2 or solely PvP.
It was an example to prove not everyone is upset with Ranger.
Yah, we’d like to update more fixes on the back end, but really, once the numbers are sorted, it’s all good.
We understand you obviously are in favor of this bug…I mean I would be too on my Ranger. The point is that it was an unintended change and we are obligated to fix it. We were just talking and one thing we do want to do with Ranger is find more places to place Fury. A lot of these posts are just erratic emotional responses filled with tons of hyperbole. The Ranger isn’t going to “go back into being useless” because of this fix, because it’s already strong. Sure it has it’s flaws like all classes but it is one of the top classes in PvP and in PvE it is competitive with top burst damage. It’s got better support than many classes and it has probably the best elite in the game. I mean it’s got an 87% participation rate in the 2v2 tournaments that have been happening every weekend. What that means is that one was on every single team in the tournament except one.
Sorry I don’t have more time to chat but things will be getting better for the Ranger in the future. You can count on it.
