Personally I feel that the final boss of world 1 is more likely to be a tribute to the final boss in Super Mario Bros 2 than some other game but maybe that’s just me being biased as I loved that game to bits and still consider it the best in the Super Marios Bros. series for being utterly revolutionary (multiple characters to choose from (each with their own abilites), no time limit (lovely as I hate time constrained gaming) etc.

For the most part we were not directly referencing any specific characters or enemies from specific games. Just pulling the most obvious tropes from the genre. It’s very common for forest levels to have frog bosses. That being said, I agree with you about SMB2. It’s my favorite as well, and I was very happy that we included a similar mechanic to killing its boss.

That’s not a valid deduction, as John’s statement is clearly about interacting within the game as a playable character, rather than interacting with the TP at all.

Olba is correct, I am referring to interacting with the TP inside the game, I don’t have any official statement to make on outside the game applications.

In another thread someone brought up the question, “what basis is there for considering the world of video game ‘economics’ has anything to do with ‘real world’ economies.” I thought it was an interesting question, can we learn more about our real world economies with more finite virtual economies?

As for the issue of your “condescending tone”, as he alluded to, your replies to those who don’t profess or exhibit such expertise are often condescending rather than educational (since you often portray them by the wording and tone of your replies to them as being ignorant).

The tone your referring to is when I get frustrated with reiterating the same points. It isn’t a lack of education that upsets me, it’s stating ideas as facts without bothering to research what one is stating. Referring to things that aren’t inflation as inflation is a pet peeve of mine because it misleads people who aren’t specialists, and misinformation is something that upsets me (because of the rightfully earned stigma surrounding statistics).

That being said, that behavior is the minority here. This subforum has a plethora of really intelligent participants, debating really interesting topics all the time (this thread is a great example).

Ok, so lets split this thread up, because we’re a bit off topic. In this thread we should discuss whether gem prices should be regulated. In a new thread we should discuss different schools of economics, and lastly we should start a thread on this idea that Kraggy is speaking on, “The point is as I see it, what basis is there for considering the world of video game ‘economics’ has anything to do with ‘real world’ economies.” because I think that’s interesting.

As the Flame and Frost storyline has progressed, past content within that story has been available. You can still play through that previously released content.

The Flame and Frost storyline will culminate in the new dungeon, the Molten Weapons Facilities. This dungeon is available for a limited period of time.

When the storyline for Flame and Frost ends, the Flame and Frost content will go away.

Of course, we are planning more content for Living World, with new stories to experience, and you will get to experience that content even if you haven’t participated in the events of Flame and Frost.

The new Molten Weapon Facilities dungeon will be available for a limited amount of time only.

Hrm, looking at the game script… Timing shouldn’t matter, you can’t interact with mines until the “Clear the mines” objective becomes active, at that point you need to clear all 12 mines to complete the objective.

I added an image for reference. It doesn’t really show it off in motion, but I’m not skilled enough to make an animated gif. I will say the new one is cooler looking IMO and does have a cool “glowy” membrane on its head.

It has come to my attention that this uses a different model than the blue Jellyfish that happens to look Kitten EXACTLY the same. I am planning on fixing this within the next month but needed to get some feedback from rangers about their feelings about their HoM rainbow jellyfish pets changing how they look. I can assume that they will be happy, but you know what happens when you assume.

Post your thoughts on this internet forum thread and I will read them.

We believe there is some room for improvement in the way that downed works in WvW. That being said we haven’t settled on a version that we think doesn’t create more problems than it solves. Rest assured we are looking at the way it works and as soon as we can, we will improve it.

Each World will have a new class of titles, based around degrees, like bachelors, Doctorate, etc. It’s basically Moto’s way of recognizing your level of education according to his program.

You need to finish clearing the minefield.

We’ll be going through most of these in 2013 and looking at making them more fun and exciting encounters that better scale to support the huge armies of people who mob them.

And of course, we’re also looking into ways to make it so you can see more of those huge mobs of people as well.

Edited to add: This is a great place to throw out your ideas of what you’d like to see any of them do encounter wise to make them more exciting.

I would highly recommend doing a clean installation of your video card drivers. We generally suggest players use Driver Fusion to do this but whatever you feel more comfortable using.

The 404 error is a little odd. To anyone else experiencing this issue, please try clearing your DNS cache. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Press and hold the Windows key and press the R key. This should bring up the “Run” dialogue box.

2. In that box, type “cmd” without the quotes, and click the “OK” button. A DOS window should open.

3. Enter the following command below and press enter: ipconfig /flushdns

This should clear your DNS cache. You may need to perform this command a few times.

If neither of the above methods work out please let me know!

If the issue persists your ISP may be providing old DNS information. Some ISPs take longer to update this information. You could also try using a 3rd party DNS service like those available at http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/ or http://www.opendns.com/start/ . NCsoft does not support these services, but there is information on configuring them at those sites.

Hi Shadowlancer – This error message can pop up for a number of different reasons and often times this can occur after an update or may just occur randomly. I experienced this error myself logging in earlier today and when I tried to log in again I could log in normally. Unfortunately I do not have the answers as to exactly why this will happen, though the reason will vary for each person.

Remember that coordination itself is the challenge. You can approach this in a few different ways. Most of the guild content can be completed by a group of fewer people who are coordinating as well as tons of people who aren’t coordinating very much. Both groups are coordinating, though. It’s micro-management versus macro-management and I’m not sure that excluding either strategy is the right answer. Variety is seems best and so most of the guild content can be completed either way.

I do agree that challenges don’t scale as well as we’d like them to and that’s something that we can hopefully get addressed and we improve our dynamic scaling technology.

Though off-topic, fixes for Sottz are coming in the next release.

The cage guardian is slurping them up. The longer you take to destroy the cage, the fewer baubles you get. We didn’t get the sound and animation quite right. We’ll fix that for the next release.

Hi Frap – Is your Windows in another language, by chance? I’ve seen this before but it is usually far and few in between.

Hi Mkalafut – I was just using the HoM calculator and I’m not seeing the issue that you’re reporting. This issue could be due to your Internet connection settings. Please try the following:

1. Go to your Start Menu and then select the Control Panel.

2. Open “Internet Options.”

3. Go to the “Advanced” tab.

4. Click “Restore advanced settings” and click the “Reset…” button.

5. In the new windows click “Reset” and once the progress is complete click “Close.”

Please let me know if this doesn’t resolve the issue for you.

Hi Taumantis – I would like to make sure there are no other programs conflicting with your game by using a Windows command called MSCONFIG.

Please note, this command will not uninstall any applications from your computer. All MSCONFIG does is prevent these applications from automatically starting when Windows boots up. If you have any security software, such as anti-virus or firewall applications, you’ll have to manually disable/uninstall those. While we do not recommend running your machine without a security application, should disabling the software help resolve your issue we can reinstall it and work to configure the application so it doesn’t cause this issue.

1. Click the bottom left of the screen to bring up the Start menu

2. Type MSCONFIG and hit the Enter key. This should open the System Configuration Utility.

3. Click on the Services tab and check the Hide All Microsoft Services checkbox near the bottom then click the Disable All button.

4. Next go to the Startup tab and click the link to go to Task Manager and disable all items.

5. Once these items are all disabled, click the OK button and you will get a prompt to restart your computer. Please restart your computer.

6. Once you return to Windows, please try connecting to the game again.

To reverse these settings, simply run MSCONFIG again and click Normal Startup on the first window labeled General.

Note: If you need a specific application to run with Windows but still want to use MSCONFIG, just follow the above instructions and on step 4, re-check any application you feel needs to start with Windows. Examples would be wireless connection software or mouse/keyboard applications.

1. I don’t know. I’m not the person who determines rewards and how they are distributed. I THINK they will be gone completely. I have no idea if they will ever be re-released. That’s all meta-game stuff. Imagine a typical 8 person NES development team making an action/adventure game in 1988. They were concerned with making a balanced, rewarding experience within their game… and that’s all. If Nintendo corporate wanted to offer prizes to players who sent in photographs of certain end screens or what-have-you, that would be a meta-game, and the corporate office would be the ones handling that whole area.

We (as in the SAB team) come up with what we think would be cool rewards, but ultimately that is not our domain. We have departments that have the whole GW2 experience in mind. (of which we are a teeny-tiny part) They are the ones that have to determine the design aesthetic, consider how the economy needs to stay in balance, keep the long, long term effects of rewards in mind, etc. Me and my little team are not equipped to make those kinds of decisions.

2. Yes, World 1 will return when World 2 comes out. By the time we release World 4, the entire game will be complete and playable from start to finish, along with hard mode, and hopefully some other modes we have in mind.

That looks amazing. Never played it. It reminds me of the NES game Faxanadu, which is a FANTASTIC game. My first computer was an Apple IIc. The closest I got to an epic adventure game was Conan.

I approve of this theory.

Swimming shouldn’t matter. I did increase the size of the exit location so it should be harder to accidentally not trigger it. It should be in a future content update.

I can’t reproduce the issue, going to the marked locaton while the “Escape” step is active should play a cutscene, and complete the story step. Go to the center of the marked location, the exit region might not match the circle on the minimap exactly.

Update: An agent just checked and it appears you can be restored to within 2 days of the hacking. Update your ticket if you need to, so that an agent can assist you.
