I’ve got to get the okay from them first, not everybody wants the spotlight. I soak that right up though.
I just want to drop in to let you know that this initiative makes me feel incredibly proud of the Guild Wars 2 community, you folks rock!
Custom arenas are a perfect example – why these weren’t fast-tracked and out in January, I’ll never know.
Because nearly all players wanted match making, and we agreed it would be better for the game at the time. So we re-prioritized. Perfect example of us switching gears based on player feedback.

Okay, this is not an argument. I am not an economist and I’m new to MMOs, so I have no idea what the plans are. I’m actually curious, and I thought people might have some ideas about this. So, two questions:
1) Will there be a levelling off period with gold to gems eventually, or will it go up indefinitely? Put into the term I am thinking of, will we reach a stage where T3 armour will cost something like a few dollars? Will we also reach a stage where grinding for gold is completely impractical, due to the conversion rate? Relatedly, is this a problem?
2) Given inflation is what it is, what is going to happen to current gold sinks? When orichalcum axes and T3 armour are trivial to buy with gold, what happens? Do the prices get raised at some point, or can we expect new tiers to be added to materials and armour sets as time goes on?
As I say, I’m not an economist, but there was a thread in general discussion about the price of T3 and how expensive it was. It just seemed that there were many reasons for it to be expensive, but they were all going to be irrelevant in a few months.
1. The best way to think about prices in senses like this over time is in terms we economists call Real. There is an exchange value between gems and Real value of gold. The real value essentially means some base purchasing power of gold, irrelevant of how much gold it actually requires. We might say 1 Real gold is what it takes to buy a stack of copper ore, then we look over time and see, how much has that changed, and adjust how we look at it relative to the change.
Now the exchange will have an exchange rate relative to the demand for gems and real gold. This can change forever without too much trouble.
2. As the game changes and ages and gets better gold sinks and other mechanisms are created to adapt to current values. The best sinks though adapt naturally to changing prices. The TP is a good example of this, since it takes a % of trades, it remains a great gold sink irrelevant of inflation.
Disclaimer that these are highly simplified answers, the questions can be made much more complex, but for this medium this is best.
We love you too man. Although not as much as if you had mentioned us all by name. Cheers!
I see no current issues with the exchange, it’s functioning very well. Remember for every opinion on which way should be “favored” there is at least one opinion for the opposite.
PS please stop calling everything inflation, it’s driving me mad.
Kinda off the topic’s question, but are these Living Story’s missions and achievements temporary and available only during certain period of time? Or I can still get them all, even if I haven’t played GW2 for months?
The living story missions and achievements will be available until Flame and Frost concludes. The final chapter, Flame and Frost: Retribution, will lead up to this conclusion.
This does not mean that Rox and Braham won’t continue to be important characters once this story ends though.
(edited by Paul Belz.7351)
You should put ALL SPvP matters as top priority, because if you want GW2 to have a feature, you must do it. Otherwise it will die very soon. Everyone is saying that, because it is sooooo obvious.
I do not doubt you’re working, but you are working slow with wrong priorities. Wake up.Working on every PvP feature we want concurrently is obviously not feasible. Everything must have a different priority. Dueling is a feature that could happen anywhere in the game, and could be picked up by a team other than the sPvP team. As far as our team’s priorities go, dueling is certainly not above custom arenas, spectators, shout casting, split queues, etc. I know everyone may want a specific feature first like dueling, and it sucks we can’t please everybody at once, but that’s the priority we’re working with.
How is that list of (mostly) basic features still so long when this game launched at the end of august 2012?
I wouldn’t call those features basic, but I can fully understand that they’re expected from the community after seeing other games like Smite or LoL. Those companies were dedicated to those games from the start though, while we at ANet were, and still are, making a massive MMO.

It checks player level, and will account for down-scaling. So if you take your level 80 to an area where your level is dropped down to 15 or below, you will no longer get knocked back.
It’s true that other monthly achievements were set lower, but we made this higher specifically because there are a finite number of these, they do not move, and they respawn quickly. Monthlies are meant to be achievable over the month at a reasonable pace (5-10 per day), and as you are doing other kinds of content, but it’s entirely possible to do it faster and farm if you want. As you noted, this would incur an upfront travel cost to tackle all 50 per day. If this is boring to you personally, hopefully there are other achievements that help you meet your monthly. :-)
It does indeed help us to track player’s progress in the Living World content, but it’s also a good way for us to communicate to players who like a bit more of a directed experience, since currently we can’t use the Personal Story system to relay information to the player about where to go for the Living World content and what to do next. We agree that using achievements this way may not be the strongest solution and we’re investigating alternatives. We will likely continue to use the achievement system until a stronger system is in place.
Since absolutely nothing of Owl remains, the norn chose to convey that by sculpting Owl’s memorial from wood.
Not true! My character has one of her feathers.
Ah, but you can’t very well make a statue from a few feathers left behind. :-)
Hello, we made some changes to the periscopes with a hotfix yesterday which should ease the pain these things have been causing. The knockback has been reduced for players level 16 and above, and removed for players 15 and below. Hopefully this will help players wanting to get this achievement for their monthly.
The periscopes did undergo some changes to hopefully make them better for all players. Also to clarify, not all periscopes have a chance to trigger the backup events. Only 3 out of 10 in each map have the events attached to them.

I’d like to add some detail to what Gaile wrote above.
It was not possible to perform this exploit with an unmodified game client. Those who performed it knew exactly what they were doing.
As a normal player of the game, you shouldn’t have to worry that you might get banned for doing something that you didn’t think was wrong. We know it’s a very serious action to ban an account, and we don’t want to take that action arbitrarily or subjectively. Our goal is to only ban when we’re sure that the account maliciously participated in the exploit, or was used for muling or distributing the proceeds.
In this case we made a mistake and banned some unrelated accounts. It was human error, and we apologize. We unbanned most of them in a batch last night. But, upon reviewing appeals, we can see that we missed some, so we’re going through and unbanning those too.
We review appeals thoroughly. Anyone who believes he or she was unfairly banned only has to write to us to get a clear answer.

Hi Dedalus. – I saw your reply in another thread. Sorry I missed this one – sometimes threads can get lost and I just can’t quite catch them all, so again, I apologize.
One thing I’d suggest is to try moving your client out of the default directory and running as Admin this way. To do this, please follow the steps below:
1. Navigate to your Guild Wars 2 folder, which by default should be C:\Program Files(x86)\Guild Wars 2.
2. Move this folder to a new location like C:\Games\Guild Wars 2. The location doesn’t matter specifically, as long as it’s outside of Program Files and Program Files(x86).
3. Navigate to this new location and “Right-click” on “GW2.exe” selecting “Create Shortcut.”
4. Rename this shortcut to “Guild Wars 2 Admin Mode.”
5. “Right-click” on “Guild Wars 2 Admin Mode” and select “Properties.”
6. Click the “Compatibility” tab.
7. Checkmark “Run this program as an Administrator.”
8. Click “Ok.”
Once completed, please double click “Guild Wars 2 Admin Mode” and try playing Guild Wars 2 again.
Hope this helps. If I miss your response again feel free to send me a PM so I can take another look at your thread so I can be of further assistance
Thank you for the post. We plan to address this for our next major build.
As Turkashi said, if you are having issues with another player scamming you, please contact Customer Support.
We’re testing a fix now, though I don’t have an ETA for when it will go live. Most likely it will be included with the next monthly update, since that’s when content changes are pushed out.
Crash crash Assertion A file was corrupted

Hi ryyyAv,
Your Crash logs are showing CRC errors. What this means is that something has caused a file to be the wrong size and corrupted the installation. The first thing we want to rule out are issues on your drive.
Please do the following first to check and repair your drive:
1. Open Computer by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Computer.
2. Right-click the hard disk drive that you want to check, and then click Properties.
3. Click the Tools tab, and then, under Error-checking, click Check Now. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
4. To check for both file errors and physical errors, select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.
5. Click Start.
Depending upon the size of your hard disk, this may take several minutes. For best results, don’t use your computer for any other tasks while it’s checking for errors.
Once that is complete, Please navigate to your Documents > Guild Wars 2 folder and in there you should see a file called Local.dat. Delete this file.
Next:
1. Navigate to your Guild Wars 2 installation folder.
2. Right-click on “GW2.exe” and select “Create Shortcut.”
3. Rename this shortcut to “Guild Wars 2 Repair.”
4. Right-click on this shortcut and select “Properties.”
5. Edit the “Target” line to include -repair at the end.
Note: Please make sure -repair is outside of the quotes
Correctly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe” -repair
Incorrectly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe -repair”
6. Once completed, click “Ok” to save your changes.
If you get an error trying to save, your target line may not have the correct format. Please try step 5 again.
7. Double click “Guild Wars 2 Repair” to start the repair process.
Once completed, please try starting Guild Wars 2 again and see if this resolves your issue.
Hi Browk Rock – I’d like to collect a Game Advisor report so I can look into why you might be experiencing this crash. You can download the Game Advisor application at the link below:
http://us.ncsoft.com/gameadvisor/
Please note that you will be automatically prompted to install Game Advisor upon clicking the link. Once you’ve generated the report, you can attach it to this thread by clicking “More posting & formatting options…”
Btw, is the support 24/7 or otherwise? Just curious..
Yes. Appeals can take a bit longer than other issues, because there’s a pretty intense level of research involved. But we have team members active 24/7/365.
Those of you whose account was terminated should first verify that the account was not reinstated. If that is the case, and if you wish to appeal, you should submit a ticket. There’s really no point in posting about this in the forums; the team will answer you as quickly as possible. If you find you still need help after three days—and I must emphasize that it’s highly unlikely that you will wait that long!—feel free to post in the Tickets for Review thread, which is at the top of this Account Support sub-forum.

Just speaking to my guildie about this right now and we’re both feeling very uncomfortable with this situation. Not knowing what’s going on and why people were banned in the first place just leaves the rest of us in the dark leading to the point where you don’t know what you can and can’t do. For now, we’re thinking to just stick with dailies and dungeon runs.
Would farming a very profitable place be considered an exploit? Or grinding the same area for hours just because you CAN be considered “botting”? I am personally putting down a lot of time grinding for my first legendary, so how am I now supposed to feel safe about doing just what the game offers me?
I understand that you and other player are expressing concerns about this. I want to put your mind at ease.
- We don’t ban without review.
- We’re gamers too, and some of us are really into farming. Farming a rich area doesn’t make you a botter or an exploiter. Now, naturally, Botters and exploiters can farm a rich area right alongside the legitimate player, but we do understand the distinction.
- If someone is banned (account terminated) or even suspended, they can appeal and the team will review the situation yet again.
- If we make an error, we are not afraid to say it, and we do not hesitate to reinstate an account that is suspended or terminated in error.

Hi Brutakus,
I would like to rule out the possibility that there is another program interfering with the game connection. To do this, we use a Windows command called “MSCONFIG.”
Please note, this command will not uninstall any applications from your computer. All MSCONFIG does is prevent these applications from automatically starting when Windows boots up.
To do this:
1. Press and hold the Windows key and then hit the R key. This should bring up the Run dialog box.
2. Type “MSCONFIG” without the quotes, and click “OK.” This should open the System Configuration Utility.
3. Click on the “Services” tab and check the “Hide All Microsoft Services” check box near the bottom, then click the “Disable All” button. (You MUST click “Hide all Microsoft Services”)
4. Next go to the “Startup” tab and click the “Disable All” button.
5. Once these items are all disabled, click the “OK” button and you will get a prompt to restart your computer. Please restart your computer.
6. Once you return to Windows, please try connecting to the game again.
To reverse these settings, simply run MSCONFIG again and click “Normal Startup” on the first window labeled “General.”
Note: If you need a specific application to run with Windows but still want to use MSCONFIG, just follow the above instructions and on step 4, re-check any application you feel needs to start with Windows. Examples would be wireless connection software, mouse or keyboard applications or even security applications. Please note that security applications can often be a contributing factor to such issues. If you haven’t done so already, please also disable any Anti-virus, Firewall or other security applications for testing purposes. While we do not recommend running your machine without a security application, should disabling the software help resolve your issue we can reinstall it and work to configure the application so it doesn’t cause this issue.
Hope this helps!
P.S. – If you don’t receive a response in the forums about your issue I would recommend creating a support ticket or even sending me a PM and asking me to take a look at your issue (unfortunately I can’t catch them all) and I would be more than happy to help you out.
Hi Jonwpatterson – After reviewing your Game Advisor, it appears that you do not have a valid installation of Direct X. This could be due to corruption or you may just not have it installed. Either way we should update this.
This is what we are seeing currently from your Game Advisor report that you provided:
================
= Installed DirectX
================

d3dx10_42.dll – 9.27.952.3001
d3dx9_32.dll – 9.16.843.0

d3dx10_41.dll – 9.26.952.2844
d3dx10_42.dll – 9.27.952.3001
d3dx9_32.dll – 9.16.843.0
d3dxof.dll – 6.1.7600.16385
The first link will provide you with the June 2010 redistributable which will force Windows to update Direct X. I provided this link below:

I put in a ticket as soon as I noticed I got banned. About 20 minutes later I was unbanned, probably when Gaile first posted in this thread.
I totally forgot about closing my ticket
I check today and there’s a automated-response from NCSOFT asking me to verify my purchase with proof blah blah before they can assist further, all the while I am not even banned anymore.
I would love that ticket number. Obviously, we could use it to train folks to answer better.

Hi Teege – If you’re getting both error codes 26 and 42 it’s possible some ports may be blocked. Guild Wars 2 requires TCP ports 80, 443, 6112 and port 6600 be fully unrestricted and accessible, both inbound and outbound. If you are connecting to Guild Wars 2 while on a campus, military, or business network, please check with your network’s administrator to verify that these ports are fully opened and unrestricted.
Also yolo.

Hey all – it would appear there are still quite a few of you experiencing this issue. Even though the original poster’s issue has been resolved, I’m just going to throw a few troubleshooting steps out there for you all since this error message is often caused by a number of different things.
Here are some things you could try as far as troubleshooting goes:
1. Disable security software
2. Bypass your router and try connecting directly to your modem
3. Ensure ports 80, 443, 6112 and port 6600 are fully unrestricted and accessible, both inbound and outbound.
4. DNS Flush
5. Winsock Reset
6. Msconfig
7. /clientport 80 command
8. VPN
If anyone wants more info on how to actually perform some of these steps please let me know. For better one on one assistance I’d recommend creating a support ticket or creating an original thread for your particular issue.
Hope this helps!
As I’ve said before, custom arenas and spectator mode are two of our highest priorities, so those will come first. But once those things are finished, we can then look at the KABILLION things we want to add to PvP and then decide which features we release next.

We’ve been researching/developing other stuff for a while now (which I’ve stated in other posts, the SOTG, etc.). We just don’t talk about things until they’re ready.
I feel that just being transparent will help you guys to calm down a bit.
So:
We wanted to have a solid set of conquest maps our first half a year after ship, so we did that. We have tweaks to do for conquest maps, but overall we like a lot of them (and some of them we’re still not 100% happy with – so they may never make it into the tournament rotation).
But, as we’ve said, the other game types commonly tossed around actually have some MAJOR issues that need to be fixed for MMO-style combat (which is what Jon is speaking about). Those are the places we’re pushing now – trying to find ways to take those game-types and get them to be FUN and FUNCTIONAL in GW2’s combat system.
We’ll keep you posted as more happens.
Also yolo.

Once completed, please try starting Guild Wars 2 again and see if this resolves your issue.
I never said ranger was better at insert thing here than class insert class here, which people here seem to be under the impression of. I’ve never claimed that ranger was top tier, and have repeatedly been saying rangers need help here on the forum, so I don’t seem to understand where people are getting the impression that I think Ranger is fine.
I also openly admit I’m not the best PvP guy, or WvW guy… but I do tend to hold my own when I go in and play in those areas, and I don’t feel like I’m sankittenging my team by being a ranger. Maybe I just don’t operate at the levels/tiers you all do, but I certainly try in the levels/tiers I am in, and I tend to have moderate success.
I’ll try to get better in those areas and advance before I go speaking about rangers in the future.
Thanks for clearing that up.
Not liking the models is apparently hate speech. Who knew?
It is not, one of our moderators misinterpreted your post. We will revert the infraction, my apologies.
Those armors are temporary placeholders (that already exist in the game), and the Legendary Store is a fake.
Your friend has submitted a ticket to ask about this, and that’s good. There’s really no point in posting at this time; the team will answer him as quickly as possible.
The forums are designed for follow-ups (after three days in the specific thread) and for general questions of an account nature. But we specifically do not encourage a “submit-and-immediately-post” culture.
If he still needs help after three days, feel free to post in the Tickets for Review thread, which is at the top of this Account Support sub-forum.

Bluxgore speaks the truth. Also keep in mind – there are MANY opinions on the forums about what we should be working on. It’s hard to say “the players want X”, because normally, there’s very little consensus on what players actually want. We try to make as many people happy as we can with each update, but it’s nearly impossible to please everyone all the time. This is true in life as well.
