Hi Lyenyo – I took a look at your crash logs and it looks like they’re showing CRC errors, what this means is that something has caused a file to be the wrong size and corrupted the installation. The first thing we want to rule out are issues on your drive.

Please do the following first to check and repair your drive:

1. Open Computer by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Computer.

2. Right-click the hard disk drive that you want to check, and then click Properties.

3. Click the Tools tab, and then, under Error-checking, click Check Now. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

4. To check for both file errors and physical errors, select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.

5. Click Start.

Depending upon the size of your hard disk, this may take several minutes. For best results, don’t use your computer for any other tasks while it’s checking for errors.

Once that is complete, Please navigate to your Documents > Guild Wars 2 folder and in there you should see a file called Local.dat. Delete this file. Once you’ve done this, go ahead and run another repair on the client.

Shut Down !

Hi Zippy – My first thought is this could be either heat or an issue with your power supply unit. The only issue I saw in the Game Advisor report is that you are missing the SP1 Windows update. I would recommend updating this and then doing a clean installation of your video card drivers as there are some newer ones available. While this likely isn’t the cause of the issue, it could be a contributing factor and if anything, applying these updates should at least improve in-game performance for you.

I would like for you to try monitoring your CPU and GPU temperature while playing the game. There are multiple programs available to do this, and one example is “SpeedFan.”

If you wish to use SpeedFan (not supported by NCSOFT or ArenaNet) please download it at the following URL:
http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php On this page, click the blue link that says “SpeedFan 4.47” and install it.

Regardless of which program you use to monitor the temperatures, please try playing the game in windowed mode and monitor the CPU temperature while playing the game. Please take a screenshot of the program’s readings.

There are some really good points here, but my original intention was to talk about what the real world gets from us participating in this game economy, rather than what real world models were used in game economies.

In essence what can we learn here from the GW2 economy that we can have application outside of GW2.

An example I might think of is: Does players selling to highest buyer instead of waiting for a better offer show that people are not “Profit Maximizing” entities as basic economies assumes?

It all comes down to how people measure their time. I know some people that can’t translate time into money or money into time. It just doesn’t compute for them. Maybe they don’t care. Who knows.

This was the counterargument I was thinking when I posed the question as well.

Hi Parae – This does sound to be hardware related but it could be a number of different things. Have you tried moving the client to a different drive? Have you checked your temps to ensure you’re not overheating? Have you tried a clean installation of your video card drivers or tried swapping out your video card for a different one to rule out your GPU?

Hi FRIAST – First I’d recommend starting simple and navigating to Documents\Guild Wars 2 and deleting the local.dat file. Once you’ve done this, run a repair on the client. If that doesn’t resolve the issue for you I’d like to check out a crash log. It will be in the same location as the local.dat file but it will be the ArenaNet.log file. Hi Roars,

First, I would like for you to navigate to Documents\Guild Wars 2 and delete the local.dat file. Next, please try the following to repair your Guild Wars 2 installation:

1. Navigate to your Guild Wars 2 installation folder.
2. Right-click on “GW2.exe” and select “Create Shortcut.”
3. Rename this shortcut to “Guild Wars 2 Repair.”
4. Right-click on this shortcut and select “Properties.”
5. Edit the “Target” line to include -repair at the end.

Note: Please make sure -repair is outside of the quotes

Correctly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe” -repair
Incorrectly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe -repair”

6. Once completed, click “Ok” to save your changes.

If you get an error trying to save, your target line may not have the correct format. Please try step 5 again.

7. Right-click “Guild Wars 2 Repair” and select “Run as Administrator.”

Allow the repair to run and once completed, “Right-click” “GW2.exe” or your Guild Wars 2 Shortcut and select “Run as Administrator.”

Once completed, please try starting Guild Wars 2 again.

Hi Zippy – In order to help you we’ll need some more info. How often does your PC shut down when playing Guild Wars 2? How long are you able to play before this happens? Does your PC simply power off or do you get any kind of error message when this happens?

Also, if you’re able to post your full system specs or attach a Game Advisor report to the thread (you can find info on how to do so in the sticky thread regarding contacting support) this would be much more helpful.

The more information that you’re able to provide the more quickly and efficiently we’ll be able to provide some sort of feedback.

Hi Chillz – I’m sorry to hear about having to reinstall the client. Unfortunately if the installation/patching process is interrupted in this way the client will need to be reinstalled from scratch.

As Ilithis Mithilander mentioned, a backup copy of your gw2.dat file wouldn’t be a bad idea especially if blackouts may be a common occurrence.

Hey all – I’m trying to gather some information so we can narrow down the cause of these issues. I would like to ask that you all reply back with your location, ISP, and a Network Diagnostic report.

The PingPlotter reports are great to look through and it does appear to be a commonality with Level 3, though I’d like to collect some more info to verify. To provide the network diagnostic report please follow the steps below:

1. Navigate to your Guild Wars 2 folder.
2. Right-click on “Gw2.exe” and select “Create Shortcut.”
3. Right-click on “Gw2.exe – Shortcut” and select “Rename.”
4. Rename this file to “Guild Wars 2 Diagnostic.”
5. Right-click on “Guild Wars 2 Diagnostic” and select “Properties.”
6. Locate the “Target” line and add the following to the end " -diag"
Your target line should look like this: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” -diag
7. Click OK to save your changes.
8. Open “Guild Wars 2 Diagnostic” to start the test.

Once completed, please click “View Results” and save the results to a text file on your desktop. Next, please attach to the thread by clicking “More posting & formatting options…”

Ok Necro staff is 22% faster than this skill. I think we just missed upping this when we did our pass to up projectile velocity on skills that were absolutely too sluggish. That being said it looks like you can fire one of these orbs every .8 seconds whereas Necro staff fire rate is 1.3 seconds. Grasp does pass through targets in a line so I feel that differential is fairly warranted. I can’t promise when this is going to be fixed, but I can say I WILL fix it.

This is not bugged, it’s by design. It’s a different type of liquid karma item that will give you an amount of karma appropriate to your level when used, which is why it doesn’t stack with the others.

I think the passive might need to come up in non-healing builds. If I run a clerics tactics build this signet can hold its weight, but it currently has NO place in a berserker build. Not sure it should be as viable in a seeker build, but it needs to see some play in soldiers, and certainly Valk and Shaman builds. Really signets are still going to have a hard time without a stun breaker (particularly in PvP and WvW). Obviously Dolyak signet is the most likely candidate here. Our next balance patch will absolutely be looking at stun breakers and spreading them out on all professions to make more categories of utilities viable. I’ll probably post this in general later as well but this was a larger balance pass and we will likely let this meta sit a bit longer than previous ones while we work towards taking time to push more less effective builds towards viable status.

I’ll take a look at how it compares to Necro staff auto. I will say that when this does hit it is the highest DPS #1 skill in the game. We wanted it to feel this powerful but difficult to land but the effect may be too exaggerated. I’ll play some PvE and PvP scepter Guardian later today.

If you’re having the issue where the UI is on the wrong screen, see my previous post:

If the UI is on the wrong screen, make sure your center screen is setup as your primary display. I believe this is set in the Windows resolution settings or the Eyefinity setup wizard.

In regards to the concerns with the change to UI placement and scaling, don’t worry, I’m not ignoring them. I’ll look into making it possible for players running Nvidia or Amd to be able to place the UI on the main screen or span all of them, as well as fixing the UI scaling issue. I cannot promise anything at this time or a delivery date, just that I will look into these issues.

I’m glad you all are passionate about the game and your experience. The last thing we want to do is ruin that.

Regarding issues with multi-monitor setups, the best method to voice your concerns or ask technical questions are to use the Tech Support forums.

Braham also revives any dead players after you kill the first of the final bosses and progress to phase 2 ;p

so now I’m confused, there is actually a difference in AI?

It’s not something that braham can do in any situation, its part of his script that when we go to boss phase 2, he uses the revive everyone skill.

Hey everyone. Thank you for following up! For those of you who are continuing to be affected by this issue, you can help us by following the steps below.

  1. Make sure you’ve created a shortcut to your Gw2.exe client.
  2. Open the shortcut properties (by right-clicking the icon and selecting ‘Properties’)
  3. In the target line, type -log so that your target looks something like this: C:\Games\Gw2\gw2.exe -log
  4. Hit ‘Ok,’ then run the client.
  5. (Assuming you are blocked when trying to download the last file) let the client run for about ten minutes, then close the client.
  6. In your Documents\Guild Wars 2 folder, you should now have a text file called ‘Gw2.log’. Please attach this file to a response, or send the file with a support ticket to customer support.

Please send us this information as soon as possible, as it will be of great aid to the programming team as they identify the root cause of the issue.

First off, I would not recommend re-downloading the client just yet, as it is not likely to help the current situation unless there is a different problem preventing you from accessing the game. Instead, please try the following:

  1. Make sure you’ve created a shortcut to your Gw2.exe client.

Ahh the new found mantra of A-net. If you continue down this path, all of these little choices of “better than nothing” will lead inevitably to people taking the choice of nothing and moving on.

Like I said, we needed this technology anyways. It’s great that it can fill some of the roles of observer mode before we actually have observer mode

So is this then confirmation that a full observer mode with a higher limit of concurrent viewers is actively being designed/developed/tested?

It must be a disconnect in communication. I assumed, his original comment meant that there were technical limitations preventing observer mode. Now it sounds like it is something they are working on…Clarification please.

There are definitely technical limitations we have not solved.

so basically if someone hosts a tournament with all of the top teams, they can only invite 10 people to watch and everyone else has to find a stream… lol, yea that will really build the community.

Yup, and while some shoutcasts are fine Id much rather have control of my own camera and look at what I find important, not someone else.

that is the whole point of observer mode, to be able to have your own control, view peoples stats/specs, etc. With the way it is setup, unless you are friends with the top teams, you will be relegated to watching a shoutcast/stream and hope you don’t miss whatever time they have to actually inspect the players. All we got was basically a shoutcast mode. Oh you play a thief and want to watch the thief? sorry streamer is focusing on the mesmer and ele.

Yup, I agree. The individual implementation of spectator mode is great. How they set up who can view as a spectator for a given arena is absolutely terrible. A complete step backwards from their working implementation of this feature in GW1 which is now what, 7 years old?

Guild Wars 2 is a completely different game. You cannot take Gw1 features and just drop them in a brand new engine. Gw1 was a simpler game, which made observer mode less complicated than how it would work in Gw2. For example, Gw1 did not use Havok. Of course we would all love observer mode, but this is certainly a step forward, which is better than nothing at all. The current spectator feature is still something we would implement anyways for added support of a neutral team. Plus it allows us to start iterating on shoutcasting UI.

This is intended behavior, this is to prevent mini pets without underwater animations from being used or summoned in water.
