We are a very small team. The more skins we made, the less stuff we could make in the Box. So we settled for a minimal set, with plans to add to it with each new World we release. I love Engies and I wish we could have served them and Thieves better this time around, but had to make some tough choices.

Yeah, we had a hard mode in, but had to pull it because it was tanking the perf on the server. So we are building some new tech to accommodate it. If we have another release it will have a hard mode option for sure. We are literally working on it this week.

I’m assuming that this, like the Halloween and Winters Day events, will be available every year, the reason I say this is because in GW1 there are Terminator themed quests every year for April fools.

If you enjoy it as much as we do, than yes, it’s very likely to join the list of content that may make an appearance again the future and be expanded on. This is indeed one of our goals of developing a living world with the game!

I think there is certainly the possibility of distinguishing WvW titles from PvE titles. But it will require investigation.

even mean? As far as I know, there is no association to begin with. Does it mean that I can show my WvW title only when I am in WvW? That would be a bummer.

What I meant was that there is the possibility of making the titles visually distinct from one another. That has nothing to do with them displaying only in one area of the game.

I don’t have access to the exact numbers at home, but I do know that the points do not change based on the number of people that receive credit.

UPDATE: JK everyone, I misread this post and have now contributed to the confusion. I thought the OP was asking about World XP. The points rewarded to the score for Dolyak kills are indeed variable depending on the number of players involved.

Are you plugging the holes? They don’t respawn, but a blob of goop will spawn every time you kill an ooze. If you pick it up and drop it, it will despawn after 15s so you can clear up the area a bit. The leaks are the big green geysers, you need to plug each one with a bit of goop.

Would those changes apply to wvw alone, or to the whole game?

It’s hard to say, again without really having specifics to go into. It’s very likely that any performance improvements would be game wide and not specific to WvW, but if the changes were more specifically related to what happens when a ton of players are around each other at the same time it might more strongly impact WvW than the rest of the game.

We are still investigating performance improvements as there are ways in which we think we can get better performance out of the game. I can’t go into specifics because there aren’t really specifics to go into yet, but we are definitely looking at what can be done.

We did have some folks reporting log-in issues, but I believe these were addressed some time ago.

  • Guild bank upgrades do not transfer; they are specific to the server.
  • Personal bank (and any upgrades) can be used from anywhere; they have nothing to do with your server.

You used offensive language on March 6. Did it again on March 27. I’ve seen the chat — it was truly offensive and is disallowed in the game. The action that was taken was appropriate and deserved. And because it came within a short period of time, your second suspension was extended, as is explained in the Conduct Breaches & Outcomes document.

In the future, avoid hate speech and name calling. Someone will report it, or one of our agents will see it, and once it is confirmed you will face consequences that obviously cause you distress.

I don’t think ANet has the implemented tech to allow you to change the name of your guild. They, thus, have two options:

  • Allow the guild to persist as-is in an offensive state
  • Delete the guild

I can see why they chose option 2, honestly, as the burden is really on the guild players to make sure their guild name/tag follow the EULA.

Thank you for understanding and for explaining our options so clearly.

We had about 40 reported guilds. 21 were actioned, the worst offenders, names that truly cannot remain in the game. Whatever the motivation to naming a guild for sexual acts, racist beliefs, hate mongering, etc., the fact is: Names cannot be filtered. So even the filter — which is not designed to give anyone a “License to Swear” — is not going to help people avoid seeing the most flagrant and offensive of names. (And I saw them all, and some of them were really, really bad. )

Flout: to treat with disdain, scorn, or contempt; scoff at; mock: “to flout the rules of propriety.” If you or your guild creator chooses the flout the Naming Policy, the UA, and/or the Rules of Conduct, expect to face consequences which, at this time, means the guild will be disbanded.

We love our players and our guilds, but we must uphold certain reasonable standards, for the very benefit of the players we care about.

Free World Transfer Concerns [merged]

I’m wondering why server populations are not fluctuating anymore during mass log outs or at off-peak hours. In the past, mass log outs of guilds were effective in dropping server population from High to Medium but this doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. ET was a ghost town at 3am est. last night and we still weren’t able to transfer anyone over because it remained at High population.

Was there a stealth change to the way server populations were calculated? If so, why was this done at the same time as the free transfers to medium servers? It is my hope that this was not done intentionally to con half of a guild into paying for their transfer while the other half made it for a free transfer. Wasn’t the intention of this transfer to even out server populations?

So, there was no conspiracy involved here.
There was no plot for initiating a devious way to dig into your pockets. (And remember, the gems that pay for a transfer can be earned in the game!)
These few instances of incomplete guild transfers can be attributed to a popular offer attracting a lot of interest.

If your local club offers free entry to the first 100 guests, do you accuse them of a conspiracy when you show up at 150 and don’t get free entry? Free transfers applied to medium-population worlds, and thus those worlds were going to change in population over time.

Thank you for looking into it, its pretty bad to have a guild divided and it would cost a fortune to be able to get everyone together.

The free world transfers simply proved to be very popular. The special offer encouraged folks to make changes and in some cases, not all of a guild’s members were able to make the free transfer. With limited capacity for each world this wasn’t an offer that people could take advantage of casually or over a protracted period of time. That seemed clear to me viewing the offer as a player.

We’re genuinely sorry that some of you were not able to transfer your guild fully. We are not able to offer a solution but do be assured that the dev team is aware of your thoughts on the matter.

  • Correct. We removed the holding of targets. I’m not sure why that didn’t make it into the patch notes. This isn’t really a buff to the targets themselves, however.
  • Sottz’s behavior was bugged. What was actually happening is that he would be spawned in a really hard to find spot, which made people think that he was bugged. Now he will reset if not engaged, which also respawns all the barrels. This should make it easier to sweep through sectors and determine if they have been searched recently

There was no change to barrel spawn locations. I fixed a bug where Sottz would not despawn if he was ejected from a barrel but not engaged. He should now disappear about a minute after he appears (if I remember correctly).

The barrels only respawn once Sottz despawns in this manner or is defeated. This is how it’s always been.

There weren’t any stealth buffs to the existing bounty targets. Some of the newer targets, however, are more punishing if you try to ignore the mechanics of the fight.

Right now custom arenas, leaderboards and spectator mode are higher in the priority queue, but this is still something we’ll be dealing with later.

Also keep in mind that once custom arenas hit, you (the players) can decide what maps you’re playing on, so we think that’ll help when you organize your own games. But yes, for tourneys, we still want to get more map variety.

Q: Sometimes I kill players and do not receive any World XP. Are players worth experience every time I kill them?
A: No. Players recently killed are worth nothing and will take time to build up to the maximum amount of World XP.

Q: Do multiple levels of 1 ability stack together?
A: The only 2 lines that persist are the Cannon Mastery and Ballista Mastery lines. This means that if you purchase 3 levels of Cannon Mastery you will strip a boon from players, increase your damage, and apply more bleed stacks.
The other 6 lines replace their previous versions. If you purchase 3 levels of Siege Might you will have a total of 3% increased siege damage, not 6%. We are looking into the messaging of these two types and will improve it in future builds.

Q: Do Objective Leaders or lords count towards the Guard Killer or Defense Against Guards abilities?
A: No.

Q: Will there be more WvW abilities in the future?
A: Yes! Not only do we want to release new types of abilities, but we want to grow some of the current ability lines as well. This is the beginning of a very expandable
system.

Q: Does Siege Might stack with the damage boosts in the cannon and ballista mastery lines?
A: Yes.

Q: Does Supply Capacity stack with my additional supply buff for claiming a camp for my guild?
A: Yes. Players that have maxed Supply Capacity ability can potentially hold up to 20 supply.

Q: Does Siegerazer give me more than 10 supply if I have Supply Capacity unlocked?
A: Siegerazer gives players 100% of your maximum supply.

Q: Does the cannon upgrade “Basic Fire Removes Boons” apply damage before it removes an enemies boon?
A: Yes. The cannon will apply the damage, then strip a boon.

Q. Do Experience Boosters work with WXP? And if not, will WXP Boosters be introduced at some point?
A. No and yes.
Experience Boosts will not increase your World XP rewards and we do have intentions to add a World Experience Boost in the future.

So I don’t know if this is the best place to do this (and it probably isn’t), but Habib started it..

The most recent update has finally realized most of the hopes and dreams I had regarding world versus world all those years ago when we first started talking about it around the office (somewhere in the 2007 or 2008 area). Wuv has been near and dear to my heart ever since, and I’m extremely proud of what the wvw team has created in that time. Wvw has been my primary focus for a couple of years now, but now it is time to hand the keys to the castle to someone else, Devon is that someone.

Devon and the rest of the wvw team will be fleshing out the new systems we’ve introduced and taking care of a lot of the long standing issues that we can tackle now that the great culling dragon is dead!

I’m extremely excited to see how the game will evolve and improve over time with Devon leading the way. He’s an amazing designer and I’ve seen the list of updates the team is prepping for April, I think most of you will be extremely pleased.

For all the conspiracy theorists out there, this is completely unrelated to any news elsewhere. I’m still at Arena.net, but the next time you see my name it will be for something other than world versus world. Something quite different indeed.
