I don’t believe the ‘whole account’ is lost when refunding only Heart of Thorns. (They really should update the Knowledge Base.) Many have received refunds without losing their Core game account.
But, as stated above, having used the Gems may invalidate any possible refunds.
You can always contact the CS Team and ask.
Good luck.
They’ve already stated that the only way to refund HoT is to disable the whole account….
Here’s one example of a HoT refund without losing the core game:
This is correct. We should not be terminating your account for HoT refunds. You will lose any paid access features (i.e. You may go back to PFF if that was your game status before upgrading). If you request a refund FOR HEART OF THORNS and they respond with a “you acknowledge that your account will be terminated” please ask for a supervisor.
(Chargebacks are always terminated; no matter what portion you’ve placed the chargeback on).

Hail friends,
Thank you for the reports! We are aware that some players are seeing this message during different points and have it under investigation, though I cannot provide an eta for when this spam will be fixed.
At the current time, the Forum Specialist Program is on hiatus. We want to express sincere thanks to our first round of specialists, who provided us with great feedback from the community. We all — players and developers alike — benefited from the feedback that FSP members routed to us, and we’re grateful for their participation in the program.
We will be assessing the timing of the next round of FSP members, and will be sure to post in the forums when we are ready to accept applications.
Thanks to everyone involved!

Bought Xera’s Mask in Gem Store for the cool red ripple effect. A week later the effect was taken away. Feeling bait n switched here. Is this a bug or???
Hi Xandair,
We haven’t seen what you are referring to and haven’t made any changes to the mask. Do you happen to have more information? We’d like to look into it.
Thanks,
Sarah
Hi Fenrir,
I’m sorry you had to do a work around, we really want everyone to be able to buy things from our sites! I’m trying to reproduce this so we can fix the problem. The “en_IE” doesn’t mean Internet Explorer, it means you were forwarded to our ‘English Europe’ site so if you are not over in Europe there may be a setting or a proxy that makes your browser think you are.
I’ve gone to that specific site with Firefox and I am not seeing the issue at this time. If you get a spare moment could you try again and then PM me with the details?
Again I’m sorry it was such a pain and we are really happy that you and your girlfriend are going to be able to enjoy HoT and everything that comes with it!
Can’t undo question thing for some reason..
I took care of that for you.

Are the Modus Scelerit Cancelled?
Not sure what you mean by this. Can you elaborate?
I can for him. The Modus Scelris were series of events added with Halloween 2012. There was mention that they’d be a running plot, I think – or at least people were left with that impression. But nothing has happened to them since.
wouw’s asking if there’s any plans for them in the future, or if they were a one-release trick. Many folks are hoping they get expanded.
Heck, given the LW3 teasers, they could even become one of those groups vying for the magical power released by Mordy.
Adding to that: Halloween 2012 introduced the idea of content delivery, without much explanation (aka there were things added to the game, without any hints).
There was a quote somewhere, that not enough people got the new content and thus it wasn’t expanded further for a long time.
Basicaly the new content came to early, while people were still experiencing the game for the first time. This could be a reason why it wasn’t followed up.
Disclaimer: I didn’t work on the Modus Sceleris content so I’m not sure what the long term plan was, originally. I do get the impression that the team that added it did so with intentions to develop it over time, but there was likely a change in direction (e.g. LW Season 1) that caused it to be shelved. Those folks probably got assigned to other projects, if memory serves me.
Would we ever use Modus Sceleris again? I think if we had a compelling reason we would, but they’re pretty far down the list (narratively speaking) because there are other stories we’d like to develop and groups we’d like to explore first.
For instance I have a sorta friend who has Spark that I’m wanting to buy from him but since I’ve played Eve Online I’ve grown to trust absolutely no one in any online game when it comes to anything currency related.
I know scamming is a reportable offense but I want to know if Anet would rectify the situation if things didn’t go according to plan.
I know of the gold limitation when you mail gold.
What’s our stance? No. Just no. Sure it’s possible. Sure, sometimes it works. But sometimes (often enough to be a highlighted concern) it does not. Which is precisely why the developers created the Trading Post. Safe, secure, and no one gets ripped off. (Ok, guys, no rude comments about the handling fee. I’m talking the straight up transaction here, and it is exactly that: straight up.)
With the advent of the TP, and with all the security that it gives, are you willing to risk a P2P trade? If you are, I sincerely hope that all goes well for you, that you get the item you paid for, and everyone is happy. If it does not, we will not and actually cannot get involved, for a variety of reasons that involve not indicting innocent players who may get caught, tangentially, in P2P trading. (If I have to go into details, I will, but I imagine someone else already has and in my haste to offer advice, I didn’t see it yet. )
So, for trading, I offer my oft-given advice: Choose wisely.

This conversation has veered quite a bit off course. The sales period is as outlined: July 20 – 27. If you’re unable to purchase in that period, we’re sorry to hear it. But angry posts aren’t appropriate on this forum, and demands for a price schedule to fit one’s personal paycheck are not reasonable or feasible.

Pay the price and buy them.
If you are offering less than the asking price, you should be patient.
Given how low the supply is on those,I don’t see why anyone would fulfil any order, ever.I am the top buy order. Its just that people list them in 1s and 2s, and I need MANY, so I want to get the word out.
That’s great and all, but should the general discussion forum be used as a personal trade spam platform?
No.
Positively not. This is a Guild Wars 2 Discussion forum, not a platform for personal trade requests. As others have suggested, for highly-sought-after items, you may need to accept in dribs and drabs, and be willing to pay more than your initial offer. But in any case, please know that this isn’t an appropriate topic for the forums. Thanks for understanding.

I think the most recent trailer for S3 dispels any notion that raids were not a significant part of the next story arc (the introduction, in fact).
Hold that judgment until you play the episode.
If you can’t buy gems please put in a CS ticket, they will be able to help you much more quickly than I can.
Include what ever error messages you’re seeing and any history you can provide.

Not really sure what you mean by “third endpoint”. For your account’s current orders, there’s only two endpoints:
- /v2/commerce/transactions/current/buys
- /v2/commerce/transactions/current/sells
Those provide paginated responses; you can use the page query parameter (e.g., “/v2/commerce/transactions/current/buys?page=1&access_token=asdf”) to get all the results (the first page is page 0).

Hey friends! I wanted to update you all to let you know that a fix for this is now being tested by QA for an upcoming release. Thank you for your continued patience and graciousness while we’ve been working on this.
Also, Josh, the way the current legendary backpiece is rewarded (people needing to cross divisions) should be changed if you make divisions more representative of skill, as most would get stuck in a division, unable to climb further = no more progressing divisions. Otherwise not all people could get them. I’m fine by that, but I don’t think majority will be-
Yep – this has been part of our discussions, and ties back to:
- Make leagues feel more rewarding after you’ve placed in your appropriate division
Hey folks,
It’s been a while since we’ve commented on leagues, so here’s a brief update.
There’s definitely room for improvement in the league system, and it’s safe to say that it’s the team’s highest priority now that we’ve signed off on everything going in for the July release. It’s still a bit early to talk about specifics, but I do think we can talk about some of the goals we have for the changes:
- Improve match quality
- Make divisions more reflective of player skill
- Make leagues feel more rewarding after you’ve placed in your appropriate division
We’re still determining the scope of the project, but I do want to be clear that it’s unlikely that these changes will be in for S4. Once we get a bit further in the dev process I’ll see if I can give an update on our thoughts/direction.

… why not reset the ratings when the links change since the population will be shuffled around?
Originally with world linking the thinking was that earned ratings themselves wouldn’t be directly altered, and an increase in Glicko deviation and volatility would take care of ratings needing to shift significantly when their composition of worlds/players changes. You can see from rating development over time that this is somewhat true: http://mos.millenium.org/na/matchups/histories
Unfortunately that doesn’t solve (and even makes worse) the problem of worlds drifting too far away to be shuffled up/down tiers from the bottom/top ranks.
We intend to have a poll in the future asking if players would prefer that Glicko ratings be completely reset with each relinking of worlds.
- Will Glicko ratings be adjusted before or after a match?
Glicko ratings are temporarily adjusted at exactly the time of matchmaking. The adjustment will never be visible. We’re not actually modifying any world’s rating, just preventing matchmaking from letting worlds drift away from the others.
- Why not just change the links again?
World links change on a schedule to maintain some stability. Among other reasons, those who maintain voice chat servers don’t have to redo permissions every week. We also wouldn’t want to start shifting world links around on a subjective whim. The frequency of the schedule was previously determined by a public poll.
- Why have Glicko ratings?
Strictly on the functional side of reasoning: matchmaking. No doubt within the space of all possible ways to calculate matchups in WvW (both pre-existing and unwritten) there exists one or more better solutions. Matchmaking in WvW is a very different scenario from what any matchmaking system I’m aware of aims to solve.
Other matchmaking systems, such as 1-up-1-down, have been discussed in the past. We’ve not previously been convinced that they’d be significant enough improvements to prioritize them over other work. One of the bigger problems with 1-up-1-down is that at natural barriers, two teams would commonly swap week after week, leaving three teams (the one that went up, and the two that remained where it was) getting steamrolled every other week.
Since alternate matchmaking systems require some of the same peoples’ time as the scoring improvements we’re currently working on, Glicko alternatives or adjustments may be options in future polls once the scoring improvement work is done.

The poll has ended! After removing all votes for “Don’t Count My Vote” the finale results are:
59.6% Yes, Repair Hammers should be introduced on a trial basis.
40.4% No, I don’t believe repair hammers would have a positive impact on the game.
This means that the team will add Repair Hammers on a trial basis to the game and will hold a follow-up poll to determine if repair hammers should become a permanent feature of the game. Thank you to everyone who voted!
Yeah, it would.
Our backend doesn’t support OPTIONS requests which means we can’t preflight CORS requests — so code running in the browser can’t actually set an authentication header — so for most use-cases the key has to go in the URL. Which is a bit unfortunate, but it is what it is.
It was said a long time ago that the Elder Dragons don’t have genders as Tyrians understand it. Whether this is a fancy way of saying “Tyrians don’t know if the Elder Dragons are male, female, or neither” or an indirect way of saying “they don’t have genders at all and any association is either ignorance or humanizing”.
Correct. There are probably a few cases in the game where characters casually referred to a particular Elder Dragon as “he” but by and large most Tyrians refer to them as genderless.
Answering more questions:
1. Does the repair hammer work on all siege? Yes, it will work on all siege.
2. Can siege be manned while being repaired? In the current design, yes, one person can be using the siege while another person is repairing it.
3. Does it require supply? Yes, you can only use the repair hammer if you have supply.
4. How much supply will it cost to repair siege? In the current design, it costs the same amount of supply to repair siege as it does to create the siege. Example: it takes 40 supply to create an arrow cart it would also take about 40 supply to repair an arrow cart that is close to having 0 health.
5. Are there restrictions on repair hammers, for example only allowing 1 person to repair 1 siege for x period of time, etc.? In the current design there are no restrictions besides needing supply, however; if this does make it into the game on a trail basis and we receive a lot of feedback that repair hammers would be great if they only had x restrictions (and the restrictions are something we can feasibly do) restrictions could be added.
Also when I say “current design” this means that those things could be subject to change.
Thank you guys for the continued reports on boons and conditions affecting siege, walls and gates! I wanted to let you know these are being investigated, but no eta is available at this time for fixes.
Currently some worlds, such as Crystal Desert, are stuck in what’s come to be referred to as “Glicko hell”. This is where a few worlds’ Glicko ratings drift off from the rest of the group, leaving a wide enough gap that those drifting away won’t be matched up against the rest.
To help prevent stale matchups, we’ll soon be able to artificially adjust Glicko ratings solely for the purpose of matchmaking.
For example, if we use this for NA’s lowest tier of worlds (T4), bumping them up to be just below T3’s ratings, they’ll have a decent chance of being shuffled into T3 during matchmaking. Given the ratings today, an adjustment we might make for July 29th could look something like:
T3:
- Maguuma: 1,838
- Sea of Sorrows: 1,777
- Stormbluff Isle: 1,767
T4:
- Crystal Desert: 1,512 (plus-185) = 1,697
- Sorrow’s Furnace: 1,398 (plus-130) = 1,528
- Darkhaven: 1,366 (plus-100) = 1,466
However, note that this artificial adjustment is invisible to anything but matchmaking. So if a T3 world doesn’t beat a T4 world significantly, the T4 world’s actual Glicko rating will increase more than usual, while the T3 world’s actual rating will decrease more than usual. Both worlds will also have increased deviation and volatility after. This is all because the T4 world’s lower rating means to Glicko “this world is expected to lose significantly to that T3 world”. So in an upset where this doesn’t happen, Glicko both makes larger adjustments to rating, since it was shown to need change, and increases deviation/volatility, to tell itself on the next round that these worlds haven’t settled into their most accurate rating yet.
EU’s lowest-rated world is still within its deviation of the lowest-rated world in the next tier up, making EU much less likely to receive artificial matchmaking adjustment on July 29th.
Hey everyone,
I wanted to answer and clarify some of the questions and concerns I’ve seen in the thread so far.
1. What is meant by “standard majority” and “super majority”? When we say something is decided by a “standard majority”, we are saying that the winning choice is decided by a majority vote. When we say something is decided by a “super majority”, we are saying that the winning choice must have at least 75% of the votes.
2. Why is this vote using “standard majority”? This is because you are voting to add the hammers into the game as a trial to test and play with them. Then after folks have had time to play with and experience the hammers, and decide if they like or dislike them – we will hold a second poll for the hammers requesting a “super majority” vote to keep the hammers as a permanent aspect of WvW.
3. How will repair hammers work? The current design is that you will be able to purchase the repair hammer from the tricks and traps vendor. When you consume the hammer it will replace your weapon skills with 1 skill that allows you to repair any siege. If you drop the hammer or die you will need to consume another repair hammer to use the repair hammer skill.
4. Why aren’t repair hammers part of the repair master ability line? If this item is voted to be a permanent feature of the game it will be added to the repair master ability line as a final pip. However, for the trial (the current poll) it will not be part of the ability line because it becomes harder for us to disable the item if it is attached to an ability line, and we need to be able to disable anything easily that is in beta. Also, repair hammers will work with the current repair master ability line; so for example if you are maxed out on the ability line you can spend 10 supply at once repairing siege with the repair hammer.
5. How much development time is spent on repair hammers? I’ll start with some backstory on repair hammers; they have been nearly complete for a couple years now but we had decided to never add them in game due to not having a way to properly test their impact on live. Now that we can beta this change on live and can disable them if players are unhappy, we have decided to see if players would want to test them on a trial basis. For those concerned about how this impacts the development of content already voted upon, it is also important to understand that different people work on different aspects of the game. Currently it is mostly programmer work that is left for scoring and QoL, but repair hammer work is design work.
6. Will repair hammers work on golems? Repair Hammers do work on golems, but only when no one is inside of them.
Hello everyone,
We will not be removing the Gift of Battle Reward Track or moving the Gift of Battle back to the vendor. However, we will be adding some mystic clovers and obsidian shards to the reward track to help it feel more Legendary themed. A release date for this change has not yet been decided.

Hi everyone,
The pricing was an error and we have corrected it. Sorry about all the confusion.
Those who purchased at the ~ 36% off discount today should receive an automatic refund of the ~ 4% in Gems. No need to file a ticket.
We will be adding a red circle to the incendiary mortar skill to better display the area that burning is applied.
Eugh, the guild upgrade items are a known issue on my end — AFAIK all of the items associated with guild upgrades are purely advisory (e.g., when you craft them the item specified in the recipe doesn’t get produced — it just gets inserted into the guild’s inventory). That the recipes refer to acquirable items is an implementation detail rather than an invariant.
I’ve not a clue why those items ended up in /v2/commerce/listings without ever appearing in the whitelist queue.
In any case, thanks for the continued reports; I’ve whitelisted all of those.
There are no NPC pirates in this map that interact with players. The secondary mechanic is a periodic 4th capture point (“The Bell”) that awards increasing team score.
There was probably some confusion because once the bell is captured, there is an awesome sequence of cannons blowing up the pirate ship. This is only for flavor, though.

Hi all,
I signed off on the first episode of Living World Season 3, and we’re getting ready to announce the episode and its release date. I’m super proud of the team for hitting this milestone. Over the past few weeks the team has been processing up to a hundred pieces of feedback each day, working to get all the details right.
Reaching sign-off on an episode doesn’t mean we’re done. Now we integrate the episode content with the other updates that ship in this release, and with localized text and voice-over, and we do final testing of all that. To give a sense of the scope of this process, this update has about 1,500 distinct lines of new voice dialog, each of which must be recorded, integrated, and tested in each supported language. For the player character’s voice, we separately record each race/sex combination in each language, so that means 40 actors for each line.
With this release, we’re bundling a Living World episode with additional content for other areas of the game. You’ve seen that we’ve been following a pattern of releasing a bundled update each quarter; this is a content-focused continuation of that kind of thing. Of course, we’ll give this release a name, not “July Quarterly Update”. And we may be able to increase the pace, ramping from four bundled releases per year towards six, so we’ll move away from calling these “quarterly”.
Some of you may look back nostalgically at 2013 when we shipped updates every two weeks. That year we shipped a wide variety of things: nine or ten releases that we’d today call a Living World episode, plus updates to systems and content for other parts of the game, plus festivals. So it was the extreme unbundled version of this. It was nice that there was always something new, but I’m personally not wistful of that cadence, because we sacrificed so much to be able to ship that frequently. With Season 3 our goal is to deliver content sustainably, at quality, establishing a pattern we don’t have to take breaks from.
It feels great to be shipping Living World again. Thanks for your patience through the recent content draught. Having been through it, I’m sure you understand why I’m focused on sustainability.
Stay tuned for a more formal announcement, and for more details from ArenaNet and our partners.

This is indeed a bug and we have a fix for this planned in an upcoming release provided it passes all of our QA checks. Thank you all for the reports here in the forums and to those who have been sending us reports with [/bug].
Thank you Gaile for relaying email address, since game wouldn’t play nice. Logged ticket.
I sent you a message in game, I hope that solves your problems!
So Bobby you are saying that the Twisted Castle was intentional from Xera? For me it looked like some Accident while handling too much Magic over a short Time. More like a Mesmer Nuke went off after she reached the critical Mass of Magic.
Yes, it was intentional. In retrospect, I can see why you’d think it was a by-product of magic overload (similar to what happened to Matthias in wing 2) but she tore it apart willingly.
Edit: When players enter the Twisted Castle area, Xera says some dialog that alludes to this. It’s not listed on the wiki, though, so I would imagine that’s why this detail is hazy for some folks.
There’s a fair amount of dialog that triggers during this section. It’s easy to miss because of all the action, which is one reason why we tend to place most of the narrative bits between fights instead of during them (with a few exceptions).
(edited by BobbyStein.2315)
What would prevent her – or someone as powerful as her – from just carting a bunch of bloodstone shards into DR?
After all, with the barrels of bloodstone shards being shipped about (or so the raid wings imply), isn’t that what the White Mantle are doing already?
Logistics. A full-on frontal assault would be impractical. Sure, they could run caravans full of bloodstone shards, I suppose, but I think they’d be overwhelmed by the Seraph and players before they’d break through the city defenses.
Could they sneak in barrels over time? Maybe. But it wasn’t their priority. Xera was doing something very specific in the raid, and all her resources were focused on its completion.
To me, Xera fails in this too – her powers is so beyond what should be possible for humans, even with bloodstone access. In fact, she is beyond the believable especially given the bloodstone access, given that both Randall Graystone and Matthias both showed that a human trying to control too much magic via bloodstones backlashes – yet this never seems to happen with Xera (unless I missed something). I mean, seeing the Xera fight just made me wonder one thing: why the hell didn’t she just waltz into DR herself and just shift the city into some mental hellhole nightmare fuel? She clearly is fully capable of that given she made the Twisted Castle.
Xera had access to far more magic than Matthias, since a much larger quantity of charged bloodstone shards (and larger fragments) were at her disposal. She was also a more skilled magic user than Matthias, which is why she didn’t “hulk out” as the battle progressed.
She wouldn’t have had access to those magic reserves outside the Stronghold of the Faithful, which is why should couldn’t have performed such an assault on DR. Also, she had more pressing matters at the moment.
Another thing to keep in mind: Xera didn’t create the Twisted Castle from nothing. She took an existing structure and busted it up to form the maze that players had to navigate. It was all an effort to slow them down, since at that point she realized that killing them outright wasn’t really possible since they’d defeated everything she’d thrown at them.
One other thing: there’s a lot of excess magic floating around the Maguuma. When you couple that with charged bloodstone shards and unstable ley rifts, all kinds of chaos can happen (which factors into the mechanics of the final boss fight).
Hopefully, this all came through in the dialog and game mechanics of the final wing. If not, then I’ll take this as constructive feedback to improve on the narrative presentation next time around.
