Hey there,

ArenaNet will be holding our traditional community party during PAX West weekend. The event will take place the evening of Friday, September 2, at a downtown Seattle location near the Washington State Convention Center.

If you would like to attend, you can throw your hat into the ring by sending me a Private Message here on the forums by Noon PDT on Friday, August 19.

Here are your instructions for the Private Message:

  1. Subject line: “PAX West Party 2016”
  2. Your forum name
  3. Your first and last name
  4. A contact e-mail address (This does not need to be your game account address, but can be any means of e-mail contact)
  5. The first and last name of one guest, if you would like to bring a personal friend

Guilds: If your guild will be attending PAX West, and you would like us to look into adding you and your guild members to the guest list for our PAX West Party, please e-mail me at Guilds@Arena.Net. Use “PAX West Party 2016 – Guild” in the subject line. Important Note: Guilds and members of guilds who are applying for guild tickets should not sign up for personal tickets. Those who do so will be disqualified from receiving tickets of any kind.

Edit to add: If you wish to bring a guest, you must provide their first and last name. If you already submitted your name for the ticket giveaway and were intending to bring a guest, please find your PM to me in your “Sent” folder and update the thread to give me your information and that of your guest. (Please update rather than sending a second PM.) Thanks.

We will contact individuals and guilds who are on the guest list during the week of August 22. Ticket numbers are very limited, and we will not be able to respond to those who were not added to the guest list.

It’s going to be a fun evening, and we look forward to getting a chance to party with Guild Wars 2 players! Hope to see you there!

There is a change in the pipes to allow leaving during the new timer. If you press ‘Yes’, you will still have to wait the 15 seconds to allow others to opt in before leaving.

WORLD POLISH

  • Plains of Ashford
    • Fixed an issue that could prevent the “Lure out devourers to get at their eggs” event from starting.
    • Drottot Lashtail will now have a merchant icon when selling the Recipe: Drottot’s Poached Eggs item.
  • Sparkfly Fen
    • An access point for Tequatl’s Watery Grave will appear after Tequatl has been defeated. It will stay open for fifteen minutes and is located off the coast, southwest of Fabled Djannor.
  • Bloodstone Fen
    • The Legendary Unbound Guardian’s Counter Magic mechanic now also doubles condition damage.
  • Bloodstone slivers have scattered across Tyria.

FRACTALS

  • Chaos Isles
    • Randomized the Chaos Anomaly’s target selection for Flux Bomb.
    • The Flame Devourers will now disappear when all the bonfires are lit.
    • Relocated the Mistlock Singularity for the “Defeat the mysterious asura’s agent” event to be more accessible.
    • Falling off of the platform while the “Defeat the mysterious asura’s agent” event is active will now teleport characters onto the platform instead of to the checkpoint location.
    • The Brazen Gladiator now spends less time trying to follow minions, illusions, or pets.
    • Fixed a bug that prevented Fractal Avengers from triggering.
    • Fixed a bug in which the Chaos Isles fractal would not increment the Fractal Frequenter or Daily Fractals achievements.
  • Snowblind
    • Fixed a bug that prevented Fractal Avengers from triggering.
  • Swampland
    • Fixed a bug in which Bloomhunger could take damage from conditions while in Spirit Ward.
    • Fixed a bug in which the wisps would not reset properly upon party defeat.
    • The “Kill Bloomhunger” event will now restart from the beginning after party defeat.
    • Players are now forced into combat while in Bloomhunger’s arena during the “Kill Bloomhunger” event.
    • The tunnel gate now closes when the “Kill Bloomhunger” event is active.
  • Thaumanova Reactor
    • Fixed a bug in which players could rally off of their miniatures in the Superheated Room.

PROFESSION SKILLS

  • Warrior—Vengeance: Fixed a bug that prevented this skill from being displayed in PvP matches.

STRUCTURED PLAYER VS. PLAYER

  • PvP League Season 4 begins on August 9 at 12:00 p.m. Pacific Time (UTC-7) and ends on October 3 at 4:00 p.m. Pacific Time (UTC-7).
  • Ranked PvP matchmaking has been updated to create the most even matches possible within your pip range.

WORLD VS. WORLD
General

  • The walls in WvW have been updated to improve performance.
  • Mortar incendiary effects have been updated to more clearly show the area in which burning is applied.
  • The mortar incendiary radius has been decreased to 300.
  • The mortar incendiary radius with the Mortar Mastery ability has been decreased to 360.
  • The Master of Monuments achievement has been renamed “Daily WvW Master of Monuments.”

Alpine

  • Med Kits have been added to sentries.
  • The portals to Eternal Battlegrounds and other borderlands have been adjusted so that teleportation does not occur when players walk close to their sides.

Beta
Siege Repair Hammers are now in beta!
Siege Repair Hammers are a new consumable that may be purchased from the Tricks and Traps vendor. They allow players to repair all siege weapons as long as they have supply, and the hammers work with the Repair Master ability line.
We will be looking for feedback on the repair hammers on our forums and will be holding a follow-up poll to determine if they should become a permanent feature of the game.
In the event that repair hammers are officially added, the following changes would be made:

  • A new pip would be added to the Repair Master ability line that would allow players to purchase repair hammers.
  • Badges of honor would be added to the cost of the repair hammer.

BLACK LION TRADING COMPANY GEM STORE
New Items and Promotions

  • A new Bloodstone Dye Pack containing six exclusive colors is now available in the Special category of the Gem Store for 125 gems.
  • The Toxic Mantle and Toxic Gloves are available with a 20% discount for a limited time at 320 gems each, found in the Style category of the Gem Store.
  • Crystallized Magic no longer drops from Black Lion Chests.

Improvements

  • The Black Lion Trading Company has hired additional aestheticians for the Havoc’s Heir airship, the Royal Terrace, and all cities. Aestheticians allow players to preview new hairstyles, faces, and other appearance details without needing to own a Total Makeover Kit. In order to confirm any changes, players must have a Total Makeover Kit in their inventory.

Hello everyone,

A few weeks ago we posted a small update on this forum about how we intend to make a number of system changes to improve the PvP league experience. While the bigger changes we’ll be making to leagues won’t be ready in time for Season 4, we’d like to let you know about a change that will be in effect for this upcoming season.

With the start of Season 4, we’ll be returning to Season 1’s style of matchmaking which focuses on creating the most balanced teams from the players queueing within your pip range. This change may widen the skill range of players in each division, but we feel that increased match quality is worth the trade-off of reduced prestige for this season. During Season 2 and 3 we added two league features that greatly impacted your ability to climb: start-of-season division placement based on previous season performance and win/lose streak pips, and both of these features will remain enabled for Season 4.

We’re not at a point where we’re able to discuss the changes we’ll be making to PvP Leagues for future seasons, but making rewards more accessible for casual players and making divisions prestigious and a more accurate indicator of skill are among our highest priorities.

Please don’t put up the names of RMT companies in our forums. As one member pointed out, you’re essentially spreading the word of their business, inadvertently “advertising” for them.

Report them in the game. I guarantee that many are addressed every day, and I’ll talk with CS on Monday to see if there are ways we could improve the filters.

Keep in mind, as others point out, malicious companies who find they are blocked often just create new names, so containing them can be a bit of a case of “whack-a-mole.” Still, we do take this seriously, and we act on RMT spammers every day. With your help, we can do more!

That’s very strange! Let me see if we can get some additional information in order to look into this:

  • You completed the story and are replaying, correct?
  • Where (exactly) were you in the story when this happened?
  • Have you tried progressing beyond this point and seeing what happens? (I was thinking it would be interesting to look at your achievement/mastery panel and see if this was an issue with an erroneous message or an actual bug, you see?)
  • Is this the account that’s having the issue, or are you playing on a different account?
  • Have you submitted an in-game report on this? (It sometimes offers the devs additional info.)

Problems with the 64-bit client

I think ArenaNet is aware of an issue with the 64 bit client for some players. In the WvW section there is a thread about crashes since the last patch. There a dev asked for crash reports. Some of them are WvW related, but the dev said that others where game wide and that ArenaNet was looking into those crashes.

FYI, the crashes discussed in that thread are, thus far, game-wide, not WvW specific.

As for OP’s issue, without some more details it’s hard to say what might be going on. I would suspect some of the same issues from the aforementioned WvW thread.

Check the Guild Wars 2 installation directory for a crash.dmp file. If the game drops out of memory, it probably doesn’t have a crash dump though.

The ArenaNet.log section is where the text people are posting can be found after the fact, should one dismiss the crash report dialog early.

I’m pretty sure Gaile was the Team Lead for the CS Team, just as Michael is now.

According to Michael, she used to ‘handle tickets’, just as he does now.

My bad then. I stand corrected.

No, Rose, you were correct.

I was never CS Lead. I was Support Liaison, and the thread I created and maintained was in place to allow me to review CS decisions and see if we could come up with a better outcome for players. It also allowed me to ask CS of they could handle tickets that may have lingered too long in the system, or have fallen through the cracks. I didn’t make CS decisions; I aided players in getting the most positive outcome possible. So as you can see, I wasn’t making decisions — I was helping players.

And whether I was CS Lead or not, saying “You deserved it” is inappropriate and cruel.

Saying I failed at that job — which incidentally I have not held in two years — is unfair and inaccurate. If an agent erred in handling someone’s issue, or if there were security issues that were not handled to the satisfaction of a player or group of players, whyever would it be seen as “karma” for me, personally, to suffer loss?

And saying “We/I did this to get your (company’s) attention” is reprehensible. Hurting a person to send a message is inhumane and wrong.

I can reproduce this as many times as you want by going to WvW and hovering mouse over the reward track chest icon atop the minimap.

Thank you for the additional information. I’ve now found the offending code and am looking into potential fixes.

Here is a temporary work-around until the real fix is released:

  1. Open your World vs World panel
  2. Go to the reward track tab
  3. Activate a track

This is happening because you currently have no track actively able to receive points and that case was not properly handled.

Some we’re able to fix now and you should see them next week (Matthias reflects), some we need programming to investigate (the issues with invulnerability) and some we’re still working on so they’ll roll out as soon as they are ready.

That was one of the earlier iterations of the secondary for RotC. We felt like teams that went for the bell early could get “robbed” of their hard work by not getting the third or fourth bell capture. We wanted the secondary to be about the more your team commits to the bell the more your team gets out of it.

Last night a hacker socially engineered one of our CS agents to gain control of Gaile’s account, and accessed GW1 using it. Gaile of course has two-factor auth on her account, and despite the social engineering, the two-factor auth worked and protected her, so the hacker had no access to her forum or GW2 accounts. Only GW1 pre-dates our 2FA/SMS system.

To socially engineer the CS agent, the hacker provided a variety of personal details about Gaile. But we don’t accept personal details as primary proof of account ownership. We require things like verifying billing info, two-factor auth, access to the account’s primary phone number, or access to its primary IP address in cases where IP address ownership is clearly established. When we can’t verify, we decline access, knowing that incorrectly declining is an unfortunate but better outcome than incorrectly granting access. These are all established and documented policies. We have a great team of customer support agents who follow these policies, and the hacker tried a bunch of times and found one agent who didn’t.

We want to protect all accounts as much as we want to protect our own. Some of you were particularly concerned about the impact to the game of hacking a GM account. You should know that we don’t give GM accounts or any accounts the ability to cheat progress, synthesize items, or manipulate the game’s economy. We play the game the same way you play the game. The hacker was able to use Gaile’s GM access to manipulate guild trims, but mostly he handed out Gaile’s personal items that she had collected from years of playing GW1.

We take your account security seriously and will continue to do everything we can to ensure that our support team consistently applies this security policy and prioritizes protecting you from account hackers.

You are running out of memory. If you are able to run it I would suggest using the 64-bit client as it should not suffer so badly from this problem.

Thanks for the feedback. As Crystal pointed out, we are working on several fixes to issues that we are seeing within the Live game. I will cross check what we are working on with the comments on this thread and make sure we are have a complete picture of the issues you are experiencing.

Many thanks to Dinosaurs, TexZero and Aelfwe for your detailed feedback posts. The more specific the info, the faster we can track down the source of the problem and focus on getting a fix out quicker.

If you are continuing to get these please reply with a copy of the top section of the crash report. It will be formatted similar to the following:

If you send me those three lines it would help immensely with establishing exactly what crashes these are and whether or not they are limited to WvW. If these crashes are not related to WvW but just happen to also occur in WvW I will have this thread moved to the generic bug subforum.

This shouldn’t be the case. All the artificer recipes should still be there. INFUZ simply added an alternative, faster way to create some of the infusions.

1. Matthias still randomly goes invul for 30 seconds~ (player specific, not party wide)
2. Matthias stacks are still harder to remove due to pets, clones, and minions blocking
3. Xera is so kittened it’s just funny.

1. Probably not due the desync issue but we’re investigating. No ETA on a fix.
2. A fix is in progress for this, but can’t deploy until the next full build.

As a followup to the hotfix being officially out – the hotfix today will have addressed:

  • Guild Bounty targets
  • WvW Dolyaks
  • Wargs in Raid Wing 3
  • Creatures from the recently added events in the open world

Further investigative work will still be going on for:

  • Raid Wing 3 – Bosses are being invulnerable when they should not.
  • PvP – Player vs Player is seeing desyncing where players are not where they seem to be.
  • Open World – The icons indicating have been downed do not always appear where the downed player is – or remain on the player after they have been revived.

If folks encounter issues they suspect are caused by the desync issues we’re working on investigating, please let us know. Thank you all again!

A hotfix was just deployed today to fix a desync issue which should resolve most of the issues you were seeing, however we’re still investigating how much was caused by the desync.

If you continue to see issues post hotfix, please keep reporting them so we can investigate them on a case by case basis.

Thank you all for your continued patience while the desync issues are being investigated. And thank you for your continued reports here, on reddit and through the [/bug] command window.

We are currently working on putting out a fix that should fix some of the desync issues affecting the different game modes. This fix will address the issue where npcs and creatures were appearing in places they should not have been due to the desync.

Issues with the crazy spike damage seen by players, and issues seen in player vs player are still being investigated.

I positively LOVE our wikis! There isn’t a day that goes by that I’m not on the GW2 Wiki, and I find myself continuing to use the GW Wiki a lot, too. I used the GW2 wiki last night to help me get one of my missing Mastery Points.

We are lucky to have such dedicated wiki editors, and everyone at ArenaNet holds them in very high regard.

I hope even more players will get involved in the wiki in the future, with articles, explanations, research, guides, and more. If there isn’t a page, consider starting one. If there is a page and you can add to it, go ahead and add some content or, if you’d rather, post on the discussion page for that article and make a suggestion that the additional info be added to the main article. (I did the latter myself until I got up the courage to edit an article. )

The delay is there so players who accept the party don’t leave the match early and and get back to the lobby before the party is actually created. Otherwise they’d be able to queue and then get kicked out, and it’s just all sorts of weird user experiences.

However if someone doesn’t intend on joining the party anyways, there is no harm in letting them leave early other than maybe slightly less usage of the feature.

Please click on the spammer’s name in chat, right click, choose “Report” and then cite them for gold selling. It can be done in about 5 seconds, and the team is usually very quick to handle these.

Though I’m sure you’re correct but I would like to hear something from an A-Net staff member or engineer, cause I think it’s all about the money, but I can see it being an engine issue.

I know everything takes time and work, but I also agree with you that as players we would both love dyeable back items. If you have any voice in the company, maybe you could suggest that most of the current back items are just fine and wouldn’t need dye channels. Ya’ll don’t need to do more work than necessary just for the sake of old back items.

Like I said before, I’m just an artist so I’ll elaborate on what I understand as best as I can, but I’m no engineer.

This sounds like a it could be good idea, but it doesn’t sidestep the issue of categorization and what certain types of assets can do. The older assets would still be affected. We’d still encounter a ton of programing challenges and bugs from altering a core mechanic of the game and the years of code built on top of it. Every player and many npcs use items, so the wrong bug slipping through can have a major impact on everyone in the game. Not to mention finding that bug could be like searching for a needle in a haystack because of how fundamental this part of our system is. We’d still probably end up having to re-author and retexture all old items (which would take a ton of resources) and even if we did do that, more players may end up upset by the minor texture changes to their current gear than those who can’t dye backpacks.

Maybe(?) a workaround could be a new asset type, but our engine is old and finicky— it would certainly take a lot resources to teach it to parse through something so fundamental.

I can’t repro it at all — I don’t see any weirdness with the new tiles (Bloodstone Fen, Stronghold of the Faithful, Raid on Capricorn, etc) with either your tool or mine.

I highly suspect there’s some kind of cache coherency error on one of the EU CloudFront edge servers — it’s possible that it somehow cached a bad request or something. I’m not entirely sure how that’d be possible given the origin is an S3 bucket, but I kicked off another invalidation of the entire CloudFront distribution to hopefully do something.

Invalidations usually take 20-40 minutes from what I’ve seen; I can’t connect to the broken edge servers so let me know if that changes anything ;__;

EDIT: As an additional datapoint, smiley mentioned on gitter that this is a regular occurance whenever tiles are updated and it usually resolves itself after awhile. It might be worth investigating setting the CloudFront edge servers to NA-only to see if that fixes the problem (at the cost of CDN latency for non-NA tile consumers) :/

EDIT2: The invalidation I kicked off says it’s completed.

As many have stated, the addition of new ways to get Mastery Points is a good thing! It’s sort of like adding new dishes to a buffet: you can make a choice from an expending menu of options.

I am not maxed on MPs for either HoT or CT. Hey, I’ve been busy! As a daily player, I warmly welcome more ways for me to get those points.

Hmm. I’ll continue investigating; I’m pretty sure that this isn’t an API issue at least — the backend servers that handle the trading post were responding with that exact data. My suspicion is that there’s a cache coherency bug somewhere in the trading post servers that causes them to occasionally return erroneous data to both the game and the API.

I’m unable to repro. All of the subdomains are configured with the same CloudFront distribution — so they’re all identical in both origin configuration and invalidation. There was some talk the other day about tiles taking an unreasonable amount of time to invalidate at certain EU edge servers but I haven’t been able to repro it.

Do you have an example URL that serves different tile data than tiles.guildwars2.com? i.e. a specific tile. The ones I’ve peeked at are identical between domains.
