The great thing about the official forums is that everyone knows where it is, if you’re looking for it, you can’t miss it. It has new players popping in to read and post all the time. Although the over moderation has been a bit of a problem, but in recent times it has been pretty laid back which is good.

The problem with moving to another forum such as guildwars2guru, is that you’re going to have a much narrower player base that will post. It will basically be the same handful of people posting over and over. Which is nice, but it certainly won’t be the same as it is now.

You aren’t going to get the dramas, scandals, meltdowns, conspiracies on a much more select group of posters ,compared to the very broad one that we have here.

But there isn’t really much other choice. It’s a very disappointing that arenanet are shunning the WvW community once again. Closing down this forum will not be healthy for the game in the long term.

That’s how Blackgate felt, they were uninformed, it was sudden, it was just before the new season, it left a gaping whole in Oceanic at the worst possible timing.

Just going to clarify, when I said “and the MERC civil war still rages on to this day.” I said this for dramatic effective in reference to fighting each other on the battlefield, not cross fighting between actual people.

As has been said, many people from both sides are still very good friends.

I mentioned MERC as a season highlight, because MERC has a big impact on tier 1 and has been one of the power guilds for more than a year. Much like IRON has also had a massive impact on tier 1 since they came to North America, which is also why I mentioned their departure as a highlight.

Gentlemen, it’s been a heck of a season. And this is the summary of it from my perspective.

The drama’s began before the season even started, with MERC jumping ship to Jade Quarry and backstabbing Blackgate which was a shock to the whole WvW community. Many MERC’s were against the move and stayed, just as many moved to Jade Quarry, and the MERC civil war still rages on to this day.

Remember Jade Quarry getting the easy draw and the amount of complaints on the forums? Some Jade Quarry posters stated that this was a fair decision and that they deserved an easy draw because there were the top seed.

The draw lead to the 2v1 against JQ in week 1. For the first time in guild wars 2 history, SoR and BG focused a common enemy. It was a milestone moment which both servers wanted to ensure that Jade Quarry would finish in 3rd, for their own benefit.

This result opened up league to be there for the taking for any tier 1 server.

In week 2, SoR were now looking like the hot favourites to challenge for the season. And they didn’t disappoint with a dominating effort against Blackgate on the opening weekend. BG waned and SoR took charge of the situation, with SoR heading towards a 17k lead only 2 days into the matchup. Blackgate then rallied and dismantled Sanctum of Rall’s 17k lead by the end of the 3rd day. The scores remained tight until halfway during the 4th day, that saw a monumentual collapse by SoR.
Halfway during this matchup, ZDs also joined Blackgate, with many people crying foul play and how this was unfair.

In week 3 many expected a strong showing by Sanctum of Rall to make up for the week before. But this was not to happen with SoR putting in an insipid performance. Infighting raged on their server and this was them giving up on the season.

Week 4 was an easy victory for BG against SoR due to events in the previous weeks.

Sad news reached tier 1 when IRON decided to leave the North American servers, and head back home to Europe. They brought many great fights, class (in game) and balance to tier 1. They will be missed.

Week 5 saw the much awaited showdown between Jade Quarry and Blackgate, the winner of this matchup was to be the champions. And it didn’t disappoint. These 2 power houses traded blows, the fighting was heavy and intense across all of the borderlands. Blackgate edged out a narrow lead of 4k, with Jade Quarry coming back to get a small lead of their own. The matchup continued like this until it came to the middle of the week, which saw the morale of Jade Quarry wane across the entire server, leading to their server conceding the loss.

With weeks 6 and 7 being formalities, Blackgate was now crowned the deserved champions of Gold League.

Best of luck to Sanctum of Rall for the future, your server has been a rock solid community that always puts comradery and fun above all else. I hope your server can rebuild and continue to be the great server that it’s always been.

To Jade Quarry, despite the draw, your server deserved to be classed as the favourites and you proved it in the match ups. You’ve got one hell of a community with a lot of very organised guilds and you put up a great fight. Good luck for next time.

People like to cry about coverage, or whine about buying, but here is the thing, as a server BG seems to be the most solid.
Almost every player they have is actively trying to help the server. Whether that means, running with the pin, capping ruins with other allies, or scouting towers.
It prob also helps that they seem to have a low pug population. (By PuG I mean non-wvw guilded players, not in TS) Almost every player you see, is a member of a known wvw guild. Sure there are the exceptions, but that is a big deal.

But that’s exactly what having coverage or buying guild means.. For example, if SOR paid for a few guild from EU to transfer over and also pay for a few guilds from TC/JQ/SOS/MAG to come over and now can field multiple wvw guilds in every time zone, then essentially what this will do is what you’re describing BG has right now – which is a high population of “wvw players in well known wvw guilds who are in TS, running with pin, capping ruins, and scouting.”

By buying guilds, would you mean Jade Quarry paying ATM to stay on JQ?

Or buying MERC who were already on another tier 1 server?

Or buying 3 EU guilds for leagues?

Jade Quarry has no moral footing to stand on. They had the easiest draw, they spent 20,000 gold buying guilds before the season, and they still failed.

Jade Quarry has the coverage to match Blackgate. In the easy matchups, their maps were queued throughout the day, but they chose not to show up when it mattered.

Perhaps next season, Jade Quarry’s gold would be better spent on buying some server pride….

My vote would have to go to Sanctum of Rall. They brought balance to tier 1 and even when they were winning, the scores between all 3 servers was very tight.

Sanctum of Rall had the potential to be a tier 1 server in 2012, but they fell just short. The ability to withstand hardship over a long period of time and make a comeback in 2013 is something that is unprecedented.

They have a strong community for sure and that’s what keeps them together, I hope that they can make an even stronger comeback for 2014.

Indo, Waha and Ralikh would be my top 3.

BG should really consider not upgrading anything but camps this week. Our first week without a T1 server and it’s going to get lonely.

On a side note: I’m genuinely impressed how much damage Leagues did to server pops with transfers and just the overwhelming negativity regarding coverage wars in just about every match-up. Slow clap for ANet.

If you think this is bad? The biggest damage was done back in February.

End of free transfers meant players all over Guild Wars 2 panicked and all moved to Jade Quarry. Stormbluff Isle dying reinforced Jade Quarry, Crystal Desert dying reinforced Jade Quarry, Sea of Sorrows dying reinforced Blackgate and Sanctum of Rall, further increasing the disparity of populations between servers outside of tier 1. Tier 2 died in that month.

No idea why you guys keep writing such long posts with paragraph after paragraph of irrelevant information. MERC leaving, IRON commander getting hospitalized, JQ having 6 WvW guilds to BG’s 4 during SEA time, what do all these things matter? We are still fully queued almost all the time. Hence we are still overstacked. No, JQ doesn’t outnumber BG during SEA timezone because we are nearly always fully queued, and hence JQ are at best on equal terms with BG. If we weren’t fully queued during SEA timezone we would have a coverage weakness and conceivably may not be overstacked, but we are fully queued during SEA timezone.

Can’t believe it’s so hard to grasp this simple concept.

Blackgate, Jade Quarry and Sanctum of Rall are over stacked in comparison to tier 2 servers.

Sea of Sorrows is over stacked in comparison to tier 3 servers.

Blackgate is not over stacked compared to Jade Quarry, or Sanctum of Rall when league started. Everyone tipped Jade Quarry to win, Sanctum of Rall second and Blackgate third.

Jade Quarry had the coverage to match, but they were out played and stopped showing up to fight. Turning the end result into an avalanche.

Are you able to grasp this simple concept? Mr Blackgate player who transferred 2 weeks ago from Sea of Sorrows (your actions are a little hypocritical to your argument?)

Another thing that was a major blessing to Blackgate was daylight savings. Daylight savings was only 1 or 2 weeks after MERC left BG, which closed the coverage gap between America and Oceania by 2 hours. This helped Blackgate massively and it nullified Jade Quarry’s advantage it has in it’s heavy populated Oceanic and SEA zones.

Blackgators were well aware of this right after MERC transfered off, and many American commanders and guilds vowed and planned to stay up extra late to cover our coverage weaknesses.

Jade Quarry should still have been dominating in SEA, but they didn’t. As soon as the matchup became hard for Jade Quarry, their population player base faded away. It was Tuesday night in Australia and the guilds on Jade Quarry had already given up.

There is not much fighting spirit and there never really has been on Jade Quarry. Jade Quarry had the coverage to beat Blackgate, they were full of queues for many weeks prior to week 5. JQ only has itself to blame.

Lets use this week as an opportunity to improve the meta of our servers. Builds, strategy, tagless commanding and most of all, fun should be the focus of this week’s matchup.

At the end of the day your picking on one tiny wincy aspect of my post, and completely ignoring that the whole entire reason it was brought back up again was, because members of your current server, and newer members of SoS have said SOR was the sole reason SOS imploded, at that time, which I was stating is utterly incorrect, and at the same time, also point to the fact that if the SoS people really wanted to hate a server they should perhaps look at BG since your, now current, server took the lions share of the SOS WvW guilds compared to SOR, JQ, TC and FA.

I’ve specifically been talking about AoI, I have not once mentioned anything regarding MERC, for example, being “bought.” Which btw, was the entire reason this buying guilds thing ever came about. When MERC posted that BG helped them pay transfer costs for some of their members. This isn’t even close to a secret. However you’ve got some twisted revisionist history, where most of the guilds were bought and only you know which ones.

This simply is not true.

Neither Blackgate nor Sanctum of Rall had anything to do with SoS imploding.

Jade Quarry had stacked itself to the point that it was winning match ups by more than 150k points, and they didn’t even need to try. (destroying tier 1 and the 2 competition in the process)

MERC wanted to move, and discussed moving with some of it’s close allies (ND and AOI) to move together. MERC approached Blackgate, and Blackgate (like any other server such as Sanctum of Rall) were welcoming to these guilds and gave the gold they had available to assist these guilds.

In the end MERC received a few hundred gold for the entire guild, and brought over more than 200 active hardcore WvW’ers. The gold received was so small that it wasn’t enough to subsidise the members. It would not have been more than 2 gold per member, when the cost of transferring was 45 gold per member.

So because the gold was so small and was not even enough to make a difference in subsidising members, it went to the guild bank to be used for WvW utilities. To pay for the transfers, MERC’s had to farm their own gold in CoF for a week.

And I know this because I was on Sea of Sorrows since release, I was both in MERC and AOI while on SoS, and I was in both guilds at the time of transfer.

The notion of Blackgate, buying, stealing, borrowing guilds is ridiculous and couldn’t be further from reality.

During the period of the transfer, some Sanctum of Rall posters were accusing Blackgate of buying guilds and thus doing shady business. (being the dirty cheating server that Blackgate is) Some MERC members responded to these rumours by posting exaggerated figures on the forums to enrage the Rallian keyboard warriors.

E.g a forum post from a MERC commander “I can confirm that MERC’s 1000 Oceanic members received over 20,000g from Blackgate to transfer over”

It was humour that may have been lost on some serious people!

It’s good to see Sea of Sorrows once again.

Out queue time on BG right now is like 5 min to get into any given WvW realm. This is the case till around 6p est. Yesterday we saw lots of SoR and Tc guilds fighting hard 1-2 hours prior the present time. So around 1p est yesterday there was hard fights, now there is nothing. The chatter right now, is that SoR and Tc gave up. Now this does not stand for the later guilds, just the guilds that are meant to cover this timezone. These guilds that are supposed to be covering, are failing and PvEing. What makes this even more funny, is that fact that the 1st 1-8pgs of this thread was SoR flaming, now they are just hiding beneath layers of kittens. Thank God for Napolean conquering Europe and enforcing the metric system in his path.

It wasn’t until the 70’s and that Australia wokeup and transitioned to the metric system. Some of the old folks still complain about how much more logical feet are, but just about everyone else now has an understanding of linear mathematical measurement.

The weekend was a rough start for Blackgate, Sanctum of Rall were dominating us, meanwhile Tarnished Coast held their own on the first day, making it extra tough for Blackgate.

Sunday night SEA time, SoR had the momentum and were ticking over 400 PPT with a 17k lead, they had large armies on all 4 borderlands and Blackgate could not even take back it’s own Garrison nor hold a tower on BG BL. 24 Hours later I log on and it’s a completely different story, Blackgate holding 300+ PPT ever since NA primetime.

Sanctum of Rall haven’t been able to stop the momentum since, which has allowed Blackgate to close the gap. But you and I both know that Sanctum of Rall never give up, and next call to arms they might be able to reverse the momentum back into their favour.

Reading about 3+ hour queues on JQ, makes me happy that BG didnt stack before the league, leaving us 4 out of 5 timezones without a queue on atleast one map, even with all the pve achievement hunters.

How’s the PvDoor treating you?

Meanwhile SoR and BG are having a classic contest.

Classic contest? 370 ppt is fights got it.

JQ was getting 400 PPT during SEA against two tier 1 servers on a nightly basis.

The PPT swing are more extreme when it’s a 1v1, as every victory and loss has a direct and opposite effect on the opponent, unlike in a 1v1v1 where it tends to balance ou t.

BG are still 8000 points behind SoR and have a lot of catching up to do. There is no doubt that SoR are going to hit back.

Meanwhile JQ is already 100,000 points ahead and it’s not even Tuesday, another 18 days to go!

It is assuming that all tier 2 servers will finish below tier 1 servers in every match up.

This is no disrespect intended to tier 2 servers, especially as coverage is a major factor in points scored.

I did not initiate this type of conversation. Ask the BG commanders that were online. In any case, my main objective was to push SoR a second day straight, yet I somehow ended up on home BL again. So, I pushed SoR from the moment I logged in to GW2.

That doesn’t make sense.

Why would GoF approach you to 2v1 SoR if you are already pushing them for the entire day? They were asking you to do something you were already doing and you said no? (pushing SoR)

If what you’re saying is true, then GoF could 2v1 SoR whenever they wanted to, and they wouldn’t even need to ask.

A 2v1 on SoR would be a disadvantage to Blackgate, and an advantage to Jade Quarry.

What you’re claiming doesn’t add up.

JQ’s stacked SEA averaged a tick of 300 last night, there is going to be more of it to come,

JQ already have 2 automatic wins over SoR and BG thanks to the schedule
