The long attune cd combined with no on-demand access to offhand skills without also blowing a utility on unravel makes it seem like this spec is only good for tanky cele d/d style builds that don’t need much on demand defence. At first when I saw weaver I thought of s/f fresh air but after trying it there’s just no way it can match the fast pace the existing s/f build demands.
Sword skills generally seem weak compared to dagger skills and both sword and scepter combo skills seem incredibly weak compared to dagger combo skills.
Spreading out already gets you more points than blobbing up, the reason why people don’t do it is because playing for points isn’t fun and WvW isn’t competitive.
As annoying and arbitrary as the nerfs are, I’m really not going to be sad about never having to play tempest again.
Why they can’t make raids that would actually feel like real combat?
Because raiders would complain that it’s too hard. :^)

Just had exactly this manner of freeze on my GTX 750 Ti in the demo. Going to try this and see what happens.
Edit: initial results are promising. Not only did I not freeze during the instance my framerate actually increased dramatically.

It’s another ‘people defend pve in wvw’ episode.
Siege is trash. Npcs are trash. I’d like to at least sometimes get to fight players in this alleged pvp mode.
I’ll go take all my water and play over there than.
Seriously though, my Druid heals for alot. Heals for alot less without stab due to cc wars. Never had a problem finding a spot in squad with stab either (if there’s enough guards).
If only there was a class that could drop water fields from 1200 away so it wouldn’t need stab.
Just because there is a problem that we players agree is top of the stack in balance, doesn’t mean they shouldn’t work on other problems in the meantime, which wvw rewards were, a problem since day one.
A lack of shinies is a bigger problem than the gameplay sucking?
World ranks are a pve system. They shouldn’t even exist in the first place.
WvW needs to use the ruleset from PvP.
Did anyone honestly think that legendary armour wouldn’t just be a case of ‘high utility but terrible skin’ just like ascended was?
inb4 it’s just a better p/p with some sort of ricochet shot.
In the wardbough event the druids just attack the npcs out of nowhere and then blame you and the npcs for being intruders even after the npc leader says we meant no harm. They can all go die for all I care.
The hardest part of wvw is looking at what used to be my favourite game mode and realising that it not only sucks, but will continue to suck forever.
At least in real life you can respond properly when people give you crap. Something the commander never seems to do.
The commander doesn’t have to respond cuz he/she knows that he/she has mary sue status in this story and will always end up vindicated.
Only bad developers consider exploits cheating. Good developers realise that the ability to use everything the game has to offer is what players expect and treat exploits no differently from an intended mechanic that happens to be overpowered. That is: nerf it or otherwise change it so it’s fun and/or balanced. The only question that needs to be asked is: is it good for the game or bad for the game?
I’d say that dealing damage from behind perma-invis is bad for the game, but ghost thief is such a laughably ineffective build that I wouldn’t consider changing it to be high priority.
Seriously who designed this encounter? It’s the worst end boss design I’ve EVER SEEN.
Looks like you already forgot the Zhaitan “battle”.
At least when you press 1 to kill Zhaitan it happens as expected – no bugs – and he dies like the disappointment he is.
There is no possible way that any changes to scoring can ever make any meaningful difference to WvW.
When is Anet going to realise that it is impossible for 3 team free for all, 24/7 battle to be a competitive game mode? It would be like a cube having seven faces. It just isn’t a real thing that can ever exist.
Scepter will always be 11 bad skills and 1 phoenix. The only hope for ranged damage to ever be viable on ele is if Anet makes a power creep bloated abomination of an elite spec based on the concept.
All pve is doomed to be easy in mmos. Everything in pve will always have a solution that can be memorised and applied without thinking and in some cases without even looking. This isn’t a big deal in single player games where you aren’t expected to stick with the same content for months or even years at a time; but in a persistent world like an mmo it’s inevitable that absolutely every piece of content will eventually degenerate to zero difficulty.
It’s simply a waste of time to make hard pve in mmos. Single player games will always be infinitely better at it.
don’t see why the next elite spec can’t have a bunch of active defense
Because Anet are the ones designing it.
Once during free transfers. There’s no way I’m spending gems – even gems I bought with gold – on the empty promise of wvw being only slightly better than the trash it is in my tier.
I’d only want it so it can do the job that scepter is already supposed to do, since we all know Anet will never in a million years turn scepter into something good.
That’s like saying power dmg can’t be balanced because either the dmg or the healing will dominate. Condi cleanse is not the only defense against condis …
There are builds out there that can live through a single marauder’s attacks pretty much indefinitely so that’s mostly true. The difference is that power retains its effectiveness in groups and focus fire can overcome this.
Condi cleanse is the only thing that you ever need against condi. I can take my full pve zerker ele into wvw and as long as I take ether renewal, I may as well be immune to all condis. I’ve gotten into fights with 2 PU mesmers at once while doing this and barely even noticed their attacks. Back when I used to gvg the general assumption we used was that no condi could be counted on to last for more than 1 second. Enough condi clear will always make all condis irrelevant.
Buffing or nerfing things won’t make a difference when the entire concept of condition application and condition removal was designed incorrectly.
The current design simply cannot produce engagements where condi is balanced because either application or removal will dominate. I’m not sure how that could be changed without reworking essentially the entire game, though.
I don’t get why people seem to like foods in wvw so much. They add literally nothing to the gameplay and waste wvwers’ gold.
By the way the bonuses of mussels gnashblade add up to about 565 stat points worth on a frontline rev.
Both of these options are the wrong choice.
The problem is: depending on what you want to have increased cd’s on the mesmer, you’ll basically killing other mesmer builds just because of a single build that all it can do is 1v1.
A single build that can kill anyone isnt a problem? So anyone roaming should just teleport to wp on sight or log off right away.
Anything that has more condi clear than a thief or rev can just watch a condi mesmer pretend to damage them for as long as they want.
I want players to be more important than the supply they’re carrying and for fights to be between armies of players, not armies of siege.
Except with a dps offhand axe, you can choose a defense/utility mainhand like the mace.
options are options
~EW
That usually just means it’ll get paired with warhorn or shield to be a 100% defence/utility set and use your other weapon as dps.
Sure it’s an option, but I doubt it’ll ever be a worthy option.
I don’t see how a pure dps offhand will ever be useful for warrior when it can already get a pure dps mainhand axe and then get defence and utility on their offhand.
The reason why people get mad is because scepter is a broken mess of a weapon and all Anet ever does is the occasional trivial number tweak like giving shatterstone 10% more damage or adding a bonus hit that never hits on flamestrike.
Why do people keep on wanting to turn wvw into rocket tag?
Seeing power necro beat condi mesmer/thief, D/D power thief beat a berserker or DH, and ele beat a druid are examples where there’s simply no arguing that the latter players all got massively out-played despite having huge innate advantages. Assuming they’re average players, this indicates that the former ones are strictly skilled.
I’ve actually found whenever I’ve won or just barely lost a fight despite a massive build disadvantage that it really had nothing to do with my skill, but that the other guy was playing strictly incorrectly. Even if there was some kind of skill involved on my part I only had the opportunity because the enemy just used the wrong move.
A classic example: dodging thief steals. There was once a thief that I encountered 3 different times in a session and all 3 times he tried to steal to me with basilisk venom on only to get dodged. Steal is instant, so I had to read his intentions to be able to narrow down when he would do it to a 0.75 second window, but at the end of the day opening with a basi’d steal is just playing the game wrong. He should’ve waited for a chance to interrupt my heal instead since there’s no way that could’ve gone badly for him.
A definition of cheese I saw once that I like is something that you have to go out of your way to counter with an optional condition being that the counter is essentially only useful for dealing with the cheese.
Given how monobuild everything is in GW2 that makes nearly everything good automatically cheesy.
While it just got nerfed pretty hard power rev was a good starting example. With tanky stats even in marauder, tons of negation, stability and the safest gimmick heals in the game it was pretty good at smashing most other power builds. But with terrible condi clear if you put it up against a condi build it would pretty much have to run or die. When dots have you on the clock and debuffs are making you as threatening as a punching bag there’s not much you can really do without effective condi clear. But then condi builds can also be counterbuilt; ele in particular can get so much condi clear that even pitting it against multiple condi builds at the same time would still be hugely unfair in its favour.
Please.
If u want to get better in game play pure power
condi builds are for noobs that want to troll/facerolling with no skills
As a power warrior you can get 4500 effective power and 45000 effective hp, 2 endure pains, shield stance, high uptime on stability, good access to resistance and condi clears and a hilariously overtuned heal.
An evade spamming staff thief can get just as many evades as an evade spamming condi thief with about 85% of the effective hp and the ability to average about 4-5k per vault depending on enemy toughness.
Condi cheese definitely exists, but lets not pretend that power is inherently less cheesy.
I can’t help but noticing the condi builds people rage about (mes, teef) have utterly rock bottom offence and the only cheesy thing about them is how hard they are to kill. The only way you can die to them is if you just plain let them kill you.
Also there’s no such thing as a condi build that can kill an ele. If you’re condi and you see an ele you might as well take your hands off the keyboard.
I’m sure perma stealth → alpha strike instant kill will be a very interesting and skillful playstyle and that the OP definitely knows what he’s talking about.
I suspect it’s because MHs are the hardest to balance.
…or maybe it’s because main hands have auto attacks and Anet were afraid they’d accidentally give ele a weapon with good autos.
It’s only mindless if you let it be.
Winning 3 to 1 outnumbered has always been possible for good guilds.
The whole concept of turning allied players into a detriment is just laughable on the face of it. There’s no reason to even entertain such a ridiculous idea.
Cheers now you know the truth
The truth is is the leak was real the thread would’ve been nuked.
I made a thread about someone having linked the tempest trait singularity in chat before tempest was announced and it was nuked within the day.
I thought they swapped cuz they came up with this bizarre idea that for HoT every class should get either a 2 hand or off hand weapon.
Resistance honestly should never have been added to the game. Boons are already way stronger than condis and then you add a boon that counters all condis? Madness.
For stability, just putting a cap on how many targets a line can cc or putting a cd on removing its stacks likely would’ve been fair. Doing both makes it pretty easy to walk off attempts to cc, beside rng fear on boon corrupt.
Berserker with strength trait and no stacking of Endure Pain (meaning using only 1 instance, or not using the skill on utility at all) and no shield DOES require extraneous skill and timing. Specifically the trait focuses heavily on dodging, and upkeep of Endurance regen.
Any build that is strictly worse than another build will require more skill to get wins than the superior build, though.
Just like you can play a weaker power build and need more skill you could also play a weaker condi build and need more skill as well.
No, i mean other especs so far (in hot and the rumours of the next expansion) always get one weapon. Why would the new war get both mainhand and offhand… then again in hot none were mainhand.
It wouldn’t be all that different from adding a two hander.
The problem with that is that meteor shower sucks outside of pve so it should really be getting buffed instead.
I’d really like it if I could actually use staff against something that’s not a mob or a zerg…
Don’t worry they’ll add 10% more damage to shatterstone to compensate.
