Suggestion: Choices Choices everywhere.

David.5693

As I have read through several posts today, I have noticed a commonality between most reasonable and helpful comments.
Players want choices.
This sentiment seems to be an almost universal desire. These choices are not the sort that affect those around you. These are personal choices.
GW2 seems to have bought into that desire with the motto “Play the way you want.”
Forget any deviations from that motto, focusing on the future, can we all pretty much agree as a player base that we want lots of choices.
We want customization. We want utility. We want choices.
Things like the ability to toggle : other players backpacks on or off, spell effects of others on a slider, whether you see other players minis. These choices affect only the user.
Things like the ability to completely re size or move your user interface, toggle on or of notifications, or choose to see your face-plate in a party.
I know you want your product to be the best it can possibly be going forward, both for profits and because it builds player loyalty. Anyone who doubts this or thinks you guys don’t care is delusional.
You want GW2 to be the BEST.
You want the new nickname of this game to be Custom Wars 2.
So going forward, learning from the past without dwelling on it for a month posting negative stuff….
Gives tons of choices. Provide multiple paths to the same goals….legendary weapons and armor, mastery points, tons of utility, oodles of customization, CHOICES.
Do this, execute it well, communicate it well, promote it well ….
and I can guarantee you wild, massive success.

Pity the permanent Airship Pass was removed, the two week one is seriously less than equivalent, I’d buy the permanent one, certainly won’t ‘rent’ the feature for two weeks at a time.

Exactly.

LF a super tanky Ele build

Hey I have an 80 staff tempest, full zerker ascended gear. I have grown sort of bored with the build. I can say for sure, I have learned how to dogde! :O 11k health is not very forgiving.

Anyway, I am looking for another build to run either in raids or PVP. I thought about making a super tanky build, almost as a troll thing in PVP. Maximum survivability type thing.

I also wouldn’t mind making a healing build for raids.

My deal is, I have no idea how to gear or trait for these things. My current build is just meta… no thinking was required.

So what gear do I need to pick up (sitting on a million or so karma and a bank full of fractal rings)? What runes/sigils?

You guys are super creative so think outside normal parameters here.

Thanks!

These QQ threads are really getting annoying. Some people have AP requirements, then just let them be and ignore them, there is literally no point of crying on forums. It’s not against the rules either, and anet can’t/won’t do anything about it, so tell me what did you want to accomplish by opening this topic? They even wrote 5k or kick, so I really don’t get you-.- pointless thread 0/10

So what you are saying is when something is annoying, you should ignore it and not respond… That you should just scroll on by it. You are saying we should ignore things that bother us rather than respond on the forums.

That is an interesting idea. We should implement that.

Yes hello David, I happen to be in said daily party that does this for low level fractals, and chances are you’re referencing us (myself and two friends) by your post.

The vast majority of posters in this thread are right. It’s an easy, albeit occasionally inaccurate way to judge player experience level at a glance and attempt to guarantee that the run will go as quickly and as smoothly as possible.

Does it always work? No. Sometimes we end up being slow anyway, due to people leaving or having the requirement and still being inexperienced. But it can have a large effect on the kind of player that does end up joining our party, and I find we’re generally faster.

Bottom line is: We are not obligated to babysit you, hold your hand, or tell you that it’s going to be okay and that your 2.3k achievement points won’t be an issue. We -could- require you to send us a picture of yourself with a shoe on your head before you joined our party and we could still kick you for not doing it. We’re going to play how we want to play.

It doesn’t bug me. Your money , your game. I was more mystified by the actual 5K metric. If the point is to save time, I can see where that might actually backfire.

But as I said, it is totally your choice and I am okay with it. It just has a middle school vibe, but I tend to be a patient sort and actually don’t mind helping people be better. But if you have limited time and don’t want to risk it, I understand.

If I had fully read the description I would not have joined. And that is totally my fault. So if it happened to be your group, I apologize for wasting your time. I was simply sort of taken aback.

A few days ago I saw a lfg for 21, 28 (or whatever daily was) and 32 fractals. I didn’t actually see the little tag “5k AP or kick” until I had already clicked it. I wouldn’t have bothered joining otherwise, but I had just instaclicked when I saw the numbers I wanted.

Ok, my bad for not fully reading. they, of course, insta kicked me.

Look, I understand desiring “lEEt” players if you are raiding, or even doing high level fractals. And I generally don’t jack around with people if they don’t want me joining in… plenty of room out in Tyria.

But seriously, 5k ap required for mid level fractal? And why base it on AP of all things? Having 5K AP can happen if you never set foot inside any “difficult” content.

I admit, I joined another group and was HIGHLY amused a few minutes later when I checked LFG and they were want someone with 5K ap to do level 28 and I had already finished all 3.

Is this common? I had never really encountered it in fractals before. I am at level 71 personally, but I have done 77. I just didn’t expect it.

Sales tax on gem purchase? [merged]

Ugh… Taxes by Law – aka… people wanting money they don’t deserve. Pfffttt. If I thought that 6% tax on 10 dollars on gems would get my street paved, I’d shut up about it, but…

Your primary school education was paid for by taxes….

Maybe those people whose taxes paid for your schooling should ask for their money back

That comment seems beneath you. Commiserating on tax rates and what the taxes are used for hardly merits a cutting remark about someone’s education.

Considering the person was saying that taxes go to people who don’t deserve them, I thought it was very fitting as he didn’t seem to know how much he has benefitted by taxes.

I am a public school teacher, so I literally receive my living from tax revenue. Yet I can still understand why people don’t feel they are not getting value for the amount of taxes they pay. It is difficult to watch incredible inefficiency on a daily basis.

Demanding value for your dollars isn’t a bad thing. But maybe I gave him the benefit of the doubt undeservedly.

Still, I read most of your posts and appreciate your even-handedness on most occasions. It seemed like an unnecessary comment.

What comes out of salvaging infused rings that does not come out of regular ascended rings?

I would really like an answer to this question. I couldn’t find it in the wiki.

I had no more than posted this, when I found the answer. When salvaging an infused ring, you still get matrix, but you will get at a minimum 4. That is break even territory. You will likely get more than that, and make a little profit.

But that is only for infused. Regular ascended rings are just vendor fodder.

So, vendor regular one, and salvage infused ones if they drop that way or if you have the correct ingredients to infuse them.

So what do I do with all these asc rings?

Glass cannon strategy: exploit?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: David.5693

David.5693

It is an exploit to be a crappy player and cause the boss to live longer by dying instead of DPSing??? For something to be an exploit, you would have to get some benefit from it. Way pointing and running back offers zero advantage and literally nobody would want to do it on purpose because it sucks.

It isn’t an exploit. It is a huge sign hanging over your head saying “My bad I just failed. Sorry guys that I made us stand here 3 minutes longer.”

I always feel like a dunce when I have to way point because I missed a dodge or kitten ed in some way.

People yell at folks to WP when fully dead not to descale the boss, but because it is the least irritating option at that point for the people who are NOT dead.

Literally NOBODY who is sane would ever say “My strategy is to go in there and do amazing damage for 2 minutes, then die on purpose to scale the boss down. That will kill him quicker.”

Sorry, OP this is just silly.

Why do people in general complain too much?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I think your point is completely valid.

I have learned some people just, for lack of a better term, are just perpetually jerks. This are the same individuals who trash a waitress for minor mistakes, instead of just taking their business elsewhere.

But there are also people who come here only because they are frustrated by something that happened in game and it made them so mad they just came here to vent.

I get that.

The ones I have a problem with are the folks who just never have anything positive to say and basically constantly trash the game. Again, if I get crappy food and poor service at a restaurant, and may pleas fall on deaf ears, then I just don’t go back.

Hey I find myself in need of a good set of earbuds or headphones for GW2 and TS. I would like a built in mic. I could normally just do a google search and see what people like, but I am particularly interested in how a particular product works with GW2, as I find this game has some quirks.

I am not an audiophile, and I don’t listen to music very often, so I don’t need super top of the line.

I would also prefer earbuds, because of comfort. But I want the mic with it for TS.

A couple of nights ago I stepped away from from my keyboard and got busy and sort of forgot I was logged in. My 4 year old (turned 4 years old last week) got on my char. He likes pressing the buttons and clicking on stuff, which has caused me no small amount of trouble. He knows he can press arrow keys to move and that number 1 make fire.

He got into an unranked pvp match somehow. He will click on anythign that pops up. So I realize after a while that he managed to get in PvP, so I go over there to check it out. His team was within 10 points of winning so I let him stay on, and they won.

I said all of that to say this. He did better than 3 other people on his team, and I know one of them was actively trying.

He literally ran around and pressed 1 over and over on my glass cannon staff ele and didn’t come in last place.

I never play pvp, but I am thinking I should start…

I kid you not this happened.

It’s not that it’s a bad idea. It’s just an idea that fits a theme that has begun to plague GW2 over the last year.

It’s a gimmick. It holds no real substance or point. It’s a shiny new toy on par with gliding or bouncing mushrooms. It’s something meant to bedazzle people and have them go “Oh, look how cool this is!”. A distraction from the reality of a game that is growing stagnant and boring, because of the focus of the addition of new “cool features” like this instead of actual meaningful and enjoyable game content.

That is actually very thoughtful and completely correct. That seems to be the trend. But as long as they are adding fluff, I at least want it to be personalized, non grindy fluff. You play the game, slay a big baddie and get a trophy on your wall.

You’re probably not going to get a great reaction to this since you’ve basically disguised one dead horse topic (player housing) as another (mounts). Either people won’t read the actual topic and will just react to the title with negative/sarcastic comments, or they will read the topic….and react with slightly different negative/sarcastic comments.

As for your actual idea this is pretty much what I thought they were going to do when, before release, they said our home instances would change as we progressed through the storyline. I imagined NPCs moving in, new things appearing, decorative mementos/trophies being available, either automatically or something we could choose to display like the Hall of Monuments in GW1.

Pretty much how I use my house in Elder Scrolls games – I’d hide useful stuff and/or stuff I was saving to sell when I had a better merchantile skill in chests and display random things like dragon bones, amusing books I’d found, musical instruments I’d stolen borrowed etc.

There is a bit of this, as NPCs from the storyline will appear, but the fact that they don’t really do anything or interact with you in any way makes it feel unfinished. Elli (the asura announcer/hologram fighter) just stands staring at a wall in the human instance and doesn’t react at all if you talk to her…it’s kind of creepy.

I’d like to see them build on it, but at this point it seems unlikely.

I will admit this is 70% trolling and 30% wondering why this isn’t already a thing. We have a home instance. They know what we have accomplished. Just give us a pretty wall, or fountain or something, charge 800 gems for a “sculptor license” to activate it and watch us throw money at ANET.

I just couldn’t resist when I thought “We need to mount that on the wall… mount… LOL MOUNT!”

I just like to set things on fire and watch them burn.

I am not talking about something you ride, but something that is actually mounted on the wall!

We all have our home instances. How awesome would it be if you had a wall dedicated to mounting the heads or miniatures of major bosses you have slain with a little short sentence of appreciation from the people affected by the boss.

Example: The People of Queensdale rejoice that Player Name has vanquished the Shadow Behemoth of Godslost Swamlp!"

It is a far more visual representation of what you have accomplished than simply tabbing through your hero panel.

Cool or no?

One thing I would seriously like is for drops to actually mean something. You know that you aren’t hardly EVER going to get something useful from, say a world boss or dungeon. There is exactly zero sense of excitement when I open a chest. I know it will be just crap. How about a 1 chance to find a AMAZING MONEY BAG that has 25 gold in it! That would be awesome. 1 may be to high, but you know what I mean.

Bring the sense of anticipation back to opening a chest. Maybe you could get like omni infusions or just SOMETHING that would advance your character and be immediately useful.

IDK there are probably reasons that won’t work.

LF family or Christian friendly PvE guild JQ

in Looking for...

David.5693

I am looking for a guild for myself and my 2 sons, aged 15 and 17. (Extremely mature kids, not punks at all.)

We are primarily interested in PVE (we all 3 have HoT), but don’t mind a PvX guild as long as they know that isn’t our thing, though that could change.

My biggest qualification is that it be family friendly. If the guild has a Christian focus, that would be fine, but it isn’t a requirement and I don’t intend to discuss theology during dungeon runs.

We just want decent, mature people to run with who keep the language pg 13.

A guild with TS would be awesome. We would like running guild quests or whatever they are called.

I have a level 80 beserker ele, one kid has a guardian at 80, and the other just started a week or so ago.

Two of us are on JQ, and one son is on some other server because JQ was full.

Guild size doesn’t really matter, but I don’t want to start or rebuild a guild with 2 guys lol.

We are wanting to do dungeons, fractal, and HoT/raid content.

We are central standard time, and play most weeknights and weekends depending on real life.

We are super helpful, friendly, and go with the flow.

Thanks!

Building a PC with GW2 in mind

David.5693

Well, I am getting older and the crappy FPS I am getting with my All in One Dell just isn’t cutting it anymore. I have never built a PC before, but it doesn’t seem to difficult. I have tackled a great many, more challenging tasks, so I know I can do it.

My question is, I don’t want to overbuy for minimal gain, but I don’t want to hamstring myself with a weak system that will need upgrading a year from now. I am looking for good performance/price ratios.

The PC will be used primarily for MMOs, and some web browsing. I don’t care for FPSs, so I don’t need it to provide insane FPS for Crysis. I would like to get 60+ for Guild Wars 2, other than the occasional stutter in massive zerg settings. I just can’t handle 18 FPS any more. It is killing my eyes.

So the goal is to play GW2 on ultra/high setting 90% of the time, understanding that the rig probably doesn’t exist that can run it 100% of the time.

I just want to see the game look pretty.

So I was looking at www. logicalincrements.com at the Excellent level. I am budgeting about $1100 for the tower including windows whatever, but I need a good monitor also. Haven’t researched them at all.

I realize there are all sorts of trade offs here. Has someone here sort of done this before, specifically concerning GW2?

Thank you!

I am consistently getting 25 FPS in completely deserted zones with my settings set to low. I feel like I should be getting better frame rates, but I am not very familiar with GW2 technical quirks.

So I am posting my specs, and hopefully I can get some advice that may help.

Desktop (all in one Dell … monitor and computer components in one unit)
i7 3770S @ 3.10 mgh 65 w
Nvidia Geforce GT640m graphic
Intel 4000 integrated graphics
64 bit
16 gb ram

I am running windows 10, but I could roll back to 8. I am running the 32 bit client.

Are there some steps I can take to help this a bit? I am not expecting to get 120 fps in big battles or anything, but I would love to get an increase here.

Thanks in advance!

I have my toons on Jade Quarry, but my son (17) wants to play GW2 with me. JQ is full. We are not interested in WvW at all. So I know he can do PVE with me, but will it have any effect on joining a guild? Specifically, will he have the same guild experience I have? I have another son already playing on JQ with me, and we are not currently in a guild but have come to the realization we need a good guild. I know at one time a guild could be at level 3 on one server, and 40 on another. It would affect vault tabs and such. I searched but could not find a current answer.

I hope this question makes sense. Disregarding WvW, will joining a guild based on a different server effect anything guild related?
